I travelled with two friends after my recent retirement. After making all arrangements I broke my ankle in April. So I went in cruise in a boot. Not optimal but I made it work. I only had to cancel one excursion. I can’t say enough about the entire staff. They were excellent, pleasant, informative, helpful, always cheerful and made sure if our comfort. Rooms were kept up. Food was excellent and restaurant service great!. I left my cane at home and needed to buy another the concierge found a store in Vienna and made arrangements for taxi for me. Excursions were fun and well organized. Guides were well versed and entertaining. If I wanted anything different, a more precise description of the amount of walking/distance and terrain would have helped. The F busses helped for the group that needed a slower pace. Concierge make leaving and returning to ship easy. Helpful when we needed change €. Read Less

This is a review of the Grand European Tour from Budapest to Amsterdam from the 1st to the 15th of October. We also did the 3 night pre tour in Prague and the post 2 night in Amsterdam. We have travelled the world extensively, but his was our first River Cruise and I did a lot of research on the various company's before booking. We chose Viking because they touted to be the original and the best, with luxurious and fairly new long ships. We are not really cruise people, but this seemed like a relaxing holiday compared to the more adventurous hiking ones we usually do. This was a once in a lifetime cruise for my 60th Birthday and we encouraged our 2 Australian Friends to spend up and join us. I am still feeling guilty over that. The booking process from Australia was fine (although we were not made aware of the option to upgrade our hotel in Prague and subsequently ended up at the Corinthia, which was almost 5 kms out of town and away from our friends. We used Viking Air and that worked very well as we had flights with Emirates who are great and we had the option for a stopover which we took in Dubai. First dissapointment came upon arrival in Prague. The 3 night pre excursion was expensive and I assumed a 5 star hotel close to the old town would have been the Standard. How wrong I was. The Corinthia is definitely not 5 star, I would rate it 3+ and almost 5kms from town. Luckily Viking provided shuttle busses or it would have been a disaster. Our room on the 16th floor was unrenovated, dusty and had a saggy bed. There was mould on the bathroom tiles, the bed was saggy and there were no power points. We were so upset that my husband spoke to the Hotel the following morning and asked to be moved. They gave us a nice, renovated room on the 4th floor (which is what we should have had to start with, a deluxe double). Meanwhile we had received the regulatory, last minute email from Viking about the water levels and possible Itinerary changes. I had been dreading this after keeping track of other sailings and reviews. We did the optional, Prague by night tour which we considered a waste of money. We just bussed around for an hour having ministerial buildings pointed out to us, (none of which were lit up anyway). We had 2 short stops. One for a distant view over the City and the other at a Commercial Building for a view. On the included tour of Prague, we were supposed to tour the Castle, but our guide said we were too late and the lines were too long. After a 5 hour bus ride to Budapest to Embark the ship, we were told we could not sail from Budapest and would embark at the Industrial Port of Estergom, an hours bus ride away from Budapest. That was my next dissapointment. It had been a bucket list Item to see Parliament lit up at night, but that was not going to happen as the boat was not there! Embarkation was smooth and was aboard the Viking Modi, not the Skirnir, as we had already been informed of a ship swap the next week. The ship itself was luxurious, absolute 5 star. The Staterooms were beautiful with plenty of storage space. Bathroom design was fabulous. All the Staff on the Modi were outstanding, the Musicians very talented, and the food choices were fantastic. We were looked after very well and even a small Birthday cake on my special day. The Wifi is just terrible- no excuse for such a poor bandwidth. The administration and organisation was excellent ( our on board credit was ready for us and our account always accessible upon asking.) I would not bother with a verandah stateroom though. The ship is either docked in industrial ports or tied up to another ship and you have to draw the curtains for privacy. Included tour of Budapest dissapointing as rushed due to Bus time. This became the normal for each port- too much time on busses, restricting ou free time to enjoy and relax. The cruising we did do until Regensburg was lovely especially the Wacchau Valley. We had to swap ships on to the Skirnir at Regensberg- this was seamless. Just leave luggage outside the door in the Morning and it was like getting on the same boat after the day tour. The Skirnir was a little more 'tired' looking than the Modi and the staff not as friendly. We thought that would be the only disruption to the cruise until the bad news that we could not sail past the City of Mainz, 2 hours from Cologne and that we would disembark a day earlier to a Hotel in Amsterdam. The atmosphere was getting a bit tense. Our Tour Director, Terry was doing an outstanding job of trying to hold everything together under trying conditions. Because we could not sail the Middle Rhine, we were given an option of bussing to Rudesheim to board a flat bottomed day ship, so we could see the famous Castles. This was a very long day, but we were glad we did it to see the Rhine. The lunch provided at the Loreley Restaurant was truly terrible. The River levels are shockingly low and have been for a long time. Viking long ships have a draft with minimum 1.7m on them. So they were never goung to sail through. We later met some fellow Australians who sailed with Travel Marvel. They did the same cruise but their ship got all the way through to Amsterdam. From here, everything went pear shaped. Our Cologne Optional Tour was refunded as we would not be there. We Disembarked in Mainz and long bus tour to Cologne for a hurried walking tour. No scenic cruising of Waal and Merwede or Kinderdijk Windmills. Again, the hotel (Highett Regency) in Amsterdam is a 2km walk from the Old town. Not a big deal for us , but their were quite a lot of much older people on the cruise that would have had a problem. The included walking tour of Amsterdam was useless. The guide was more interested in showing us the area nearby and the signs on the letter boxes that meant 'No junk Mail'. We never went to the historical area. It was lucky we had extra days in Amsterdam to explore on our own. A few days after our cruise we recieved a welcome home letter and apology from Viking for the disrupted itinerary. They said we would receive seperately, a voucher for 50% off a further cruise. We are still waiting for that. We feel it should have been a 30% refund of what we had already done, to be fair. I doubt we would ever risk another River Cruise or recomend using Viking. There are other Company's with smaller drafts on their ships that will get through the rivers in Europe. I feel that Viking Management are not transparent enough with regards to Itinerary changes and water levels ,especially in these days when long term forecasts are able to give an accurate indication of rainfall. The rivers have been low for months. In fairness to Viking, you ships are lovely but you contingency plan for low water is not. I was exhausted after this 'relaxing' tour. Read Less

Have seen TV ads and received literature on Viking cruises for several years. Decided to make our 20th Anniversary cruise a big one so took the European 14 day cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest. Viking made all our arrangements and we couldn't have been better taken care of. We arrived early A.M. in Amsterdam and were bused to the Skirnir with a buffet lunch waiting for us as we waited for our rooms to be ready. (Because of low river levels, we started our cruise on the Skirnir - changed to the Modi later.) The staff on both ships was outstanding; our veranda cabin just what we expected; dining was over the top! This was our first cruise of any kind and we loved it! The shore excursions were very informative with excellent guides and lovely, picturesque places. Our first included tour of the Kinderdijk Windmills was a personal love because my grandfather came from South Holland. We chose 3 additional excursions - Cologne Beer Garden/Dinner which was such fun with Kolsch beer and sausage/sauerkraut, etc.; the Lipizzaner Stallions Backstage was very interesting-getting up close and almost personal with them but would really have loved to have a performance included; and the Schonbrunn Palace is everything magnificent and glittery with enormous grounds gardens that are breathtaking. The tours were graded for difficulty and they were quite true to their rating. Our Program Director, Anthony, was outstanding! He kept us informed all along the way of our next days activities and the low water issue. We did have to change ships half way through but the changeover was handled smoothly and the balance of our trip on the Modi was just as great. Viking certainly has their act together on delivering a memorable and wonderful vacation!! When we are ready to do another, we will certainly explore Viking. Read Less

This was our 1st River Cruise and my wife and I had a fantastic time!! Before I continue I must say that Stephen Guy, our Cruise Director, was beyond phenomenal!!! He enhanced our cruise experience so much! When we would come back from an excursion, and hear his friendly voice, we felt that we were back home! We booked the post extension stay in Amsterdam and so glad we did! Doing the B>A cruise you must do the extension in order to visit this charming city! We did have one ship swap in the middle of our cruise which was seamless! We did have to eliminate one of the optional excursions in Nuremberg! I have to say that we would have been upset if it was more than one ship swap! I know that Viking has no control over the river conditions! We thoroughly enjoyed the casual and open seating dining on the cruise! We met so many new friends on the cruise during breakfast, lunch and dinner! The food throughout the cruise was excellent with many local dishes served according to location! The French Balcony Room was more than adequate! There are so many varied opinions on what room guests prefer! We knew we did not want the room with the small window but we did debate between the French Balcony and the Veranda! The French Balcony was fine as we were hardly in the room except to sleep! All of the excursions were well organized and worthwhile! We booked numerous optional excursions and these were enjoyable as well! We wanted to make the most out of our European experience! Each night before dinner they would review the next days itinerary so that you knew exactly how to plan your day! Each morning you would get a 15 minute warning before your excursions departure! Stephen Guy, our Program Director, was always on top of everything and available for any questions! Each days activities were extremely well organized and planned! The entire staff was extremely friendly and went out of their way to please! This made our cruise so much more enjoyable! I would highly recommend that everyone should take a river cruise with Viking! We hope to book another Viking Cruise in the near future! Read Less

We sure weren't finished at 7, 8 or even 10 days! Can't wait to take another. The food was amazing. Great local choices plus stand fares as well (chicken, salmon, steak). Portions were perfect. Bar prices were very affordable. My husband and table mates loved the comp wine and beer at meals. The service was flawless. Every need was anticipated and handled. If you had a special request, it was taken care of immediately and nothing was a bother. The pace was perfect for most. Loved the local included tours to be shown around by a resident. Then you had the option to add additional tours. We took several but also placed ourselves for rest breaks. Our prior cruising has been oceans. We can't wait to take another river cruise. Read Less

Loved the itinerary, very knowledgeable excursion guides, ship was great, BUT one place we especially wanted to see because we watched a video on the Viking website with Karina highly recommending it, was missed because the cruise director and reception desk staff did not know anything about it and made no attempt to help us get there during our port stop. Very disappointed! Another huge disappointment was the Lipizzaner Stallion excursion--huge waste of $$$ to see the horses standing in their stalls. We booked the Prague extension package through Viking prior to our cruise. Beautiful city but very crowded this time of year. Bus ride to Budapest was made fun by the guide onboard who pointed out all the sights along the way. Would of loved to spend more time in Budapest, another beautiful city! Beautiful scenery along the Rhine, Danube, and Main rivers of Europe ending with the Windmills of Holland. Read Less

We chose The Grand European Tour from Budapest to Amsterdam because it offered so many Western European cities we most wanted to visit and more! We had a wonderful time and were very pleased with this cruise. Viking did an outstanding job with every aspect of our trip. We purchased our cruise rather last minute (within 30 days of the sailing date) at a great rate which included free airfare and transfers directly from Viking, and they took care of everything. We were met at the airport in Budapest by a Viking representative and promptly escorted to a transport and rode with another couple directly to our ship. We arrived around 11am and our stateroom was not yet available, but we were encouraged to have lunch at the Aquavit buffet. We enjoyed our lunch sitting outside soaking up the sunshine and the sights surrounding us as we were docked in the heart of Budapest next to the Chain Bridge. When we were notified that our cabin was ready, we quickly unpacked and headed out on our own to explore this beautiful city. One of the highlights of the entire cruise was the cruise right after dinner that first night - Budapest all lit up at night from the Danube was spectacular! The ship was sleek and comfortable and everything was perfectly maintained. We had a basic cabin which had a very large window above the water line. We enjoyed our unique perspective of the river and were very pleased with the amount of cabin space and storage available. The bathrooms were perfectly appointed and we enjoyed the heated floor and no-fog mirror. Our steward was very friendly and she did a great job of keeping our cabin spotless. We thought the food was great, whether in the dining room or the Aquavit. Service was outstanding from all of the staff and it was awesome just how many learned and remembered our names from the first day. The enrichment activities provided on board were varied, informative, and top notch. We participated in all the included overview tours provided by Viking and then explored on our own; it was a perfect mix. We enjoyed each of the ports we visited and all the cities we toured. Embarkation and disembarkation couldn't have been easier. Our only complaint was that we chose this tour because it was from Budapest to Amsterdam and were very disappointed we were not able to see any of Amsterdam as we were booked on a very early flight out and had to disembark at 5:45am which allowed no time at all to explore this city. We would definitely recommend this tour and the two weeks flew by. We met some great people and enjoyed getting to know them. We would heartily recommend both Viking and this particular cruise/tour. What a trip! Viking did a wonderful job in the Grand European Cruise. We arrived early in Budapest and enjoyed the extra days as we got acclimated to the change in time. Embarkation was extremely smooth and easy. The Skirnir was wonderful. We treated ourselves this trip and got a suite - that was a wonderful decision on our part! Our cabin had two separate rooms plus a roomy bathroom with a full size shower. We enjoyed the extra space. Dining on board - whether breakfast, lunch or dinner was always a treat. The food was always excellent - every night a local choice and several good choices always available if for some reason the local fare didn't sound too good one evening. Service was excellent. The entire crew went out of their way to help make our trip a wonderful one. We enjoyed each port we came to. The included excursions were well done and very informative and the optional excursions my wife and I took were also well done. We took this trip with another couple, the husband has problems walking without a walker but the folks on board really went out of their way to assist them each time we got back on board or when we got off for excursions. We would definitely go again and recommend this cruise to anyone who desires to see this historical part of Europe. Read Less

We chose Viking River Cruises for our first cruise - and loved every minute of it. Viking handled all our luggage from the time we landed at the airport and by the time we were brought to the ship, our luggage was waiting for us. Amazing! Viking also provided wonderful information on our departure city and each stop along the Danube, Rhine, and Main Rivers. We arrived a few days before our departure from Budapest and thoroughly enjoyed exploring Buda and Pest. At the end of our cruise, we opted to spend a few days in Amersterdam as well. I would highly recommend those thinking of taking The Grand European Tour do precisely that! While cruising along the river, we took full advantage of the excellent excursions and felt we learned quite a bit about each city we visited. The Skirnir was lovely. Our room had everything we needed and was a model of minimalist perfection. Heated bathroom floors were an unexpected treat! The Skirnir is a longboat, not a giant ocean-going vessel but rather an intimate-sized ship holding approximately 185 guests. Still, it offered several dining areas and an outdoor exercise track for walking - or in our case, spontaneous yoga classes. The staff was amazing - catered to everyone and made all of us - there were 8 in our party - feel welcome and special. While none of us were disabled, it was interesting to note that those with disabilites were accommodated just as easily. Elevator onboard was a plus. As I said, everyone was catered to by the thoughtful, friendly and capable staff. Ship Director Steven was quite possibly the best host ever! He was knowledgeable, entertaining and talented. That man could sing!!! Since our return, I have been recommending Viking River Cruises to everyone who followed our trip on our Facebook page. My husband and I have even signed up for two more cruises. The whole cruise was a wonderful experience. Thanks, Viking!!! Read Less

Included excursions certainly hit all of the highlights in each port, Lectures and guests brought on board were knowledgeable and entertaining! The cruise director, Stephen from England, was on on top of everything. His suggestions for additional excursions were top notch, fun and worthwhile. My travel buddy requires a vegan diet. This was no problem whatsoever. The maitre'd came to her at breakfast with a menu that she could choose her meals from and when we had an excursion that required that we eat at a restaurant, the Skirnir staff called ahead to make sure that there was a vegan meal for her too! They promote friendliness among the passengers, and this culture develops quickly and pleasantly. I had. been bit skeptical about the quality of the daily excursions since they are included, but found them to be excellent! The food is great. I have highly recommended Viking to many friends and we have booked a second cruise with them. We have been on some fifteen cruises, all but this one with another cruise line. Very articulate when speaking (and even singing) to us in assembly. All the service staff were hard-working and friendly! Read Less

Our friends booked this cruise in 2016 and at the last minuet, we decided to see if there might be a vacancy a week before the departure date in Sep 2017. We got a call 4 days before that there was an opening and we took it. The next day we received another call that we were bumped up to the top deck where our friends were. The plane ride to Budapest was booked on Lufthansa, which was first class all the way. Arriving in Budapest, Viking took our luggage and the next time we saw them, they were in our cabin. The cabin was perfect with a sliding glass door, TV and a small, but an amazing bathroom. The cabin staff was very polite and all business. If you wanted something, they did their utmost to get it for you. The ship was superb in every way. Spacious, uncluttered and perfect to relax in and on as we cruised the Danube river to Amsterdam. The food was amazing! If you were hungry it was your fault. I told the chef his menu was fantastic and I thanked him for his selections. The waiters in both dining areas were polite, friendly and very concerned about your needs, be it wine, beer, pop or water. Visiting the ports on the way to Amsterdam, you could take the many guided tours (at an extra cost), the free tours or you could go rambling on your own, which we did. After the tours were over, you had time to wander through the interesting towns or cities. The tour guides spoke perfect English and answered any questions you might have. It was amazing to see the flood heights marked on the walls of some of the towns. The hotel manager and his staff were extremely professional and did everything they could to make your cruise as stress free and relaxing as possible. On our return trip home, Viking took our luggage from the room and the next time we saw it was at the airport. If you want the absolute best cruise available, go Viking. Read Less

A smaller boat, (194 people) was awesome, excellent attentive staff, priced right, daily tours, excellent food and just the right portions so you were not too filled to participate in the daily excursions. The staff was out of this world, so attentive and couldn't do enough for you. They made you feel like you were the owner of the boat. From the initial check-in to the final departure they had it all covered just right. The daily included tours were mostly just right for the activity level we were expecting. After about 5 days we had had enough of the church tours, just me, but there were too many church tours. Next time we will sign up for less included daily tours and spend more port time exploring the cities on our own. We would do a Viking river cruise and specifically the Grand European tour again in a heartbeat. Read Less

Viking had arranged great accommodations for us. We had a sweet young woman who helped us navigate the city and set us up on tours. It was a great prelude to embarking the ship. We were treated like royalty throughout the journey. Our rooms were always cleaned by a very friendly attendant. Our meals were fabulous with great variety of choices, and our waiters were fun, accommodating, and skilled. The setting allowed us opportunities to meet and visit with a variety of people. We have maintained contact with two other couples and are even talking about another cruise together. The shore trips were well planned and led by very competent people. Just a great and relaxing time. Went with two other couples, for their first river cruise. Picked Viking again. Went in 2016 to Normandy, fantastic. Viking did a great job retrieving my suitcase, which was sent to Germany by the airline. We found the easiest way to travel was through Viking air. Smooth transition, from plane to boat, and the return. Could be somewhat difficult if there was a problem in a non English speaking country. The food was great. Nice local flavor at times. The on board activities were fun. The Viking service was outstanding, from the time we were picked up at the airport, through the rest of the cruise. The shore excursions were well done by local guides, and very informative. We also took five optional excursions, which were fantastic. The on board entertainment was diverse and interesting, which was also local talent. We found the ship and our room exceptionally clean and well taken care of. We would recommend this cruise to all. Our third river cruise and we've done one ocean cruise with Viking. It's always a great experience. Superb Cruise Director, Stephen, was the best of all our cruises. The "hotel manager" Thomas and the maitre d', Ria were excellent. Ria was especially concerned regarding my food allergy and personally went over the menu every morning at breakfast. Now that's guest relations. All of our tours were excellent and we always love that Viking has an "included" tour plus several options for a nominal extra charge. As we'd seen several of the port cities on a previous tour we took a number of the optional tours. Nuremberg, Salzburg, Munich, Koblenz and Cologne were several highlights. All the guides were first rate, especially the Nuremberg WW II Tour guide and our Salzburg guide. We were in the low end stateroom as all you do is sleep there anyway. Bed super comfy, bathroom small but we're yacht people so that never bothers us. Room staff excellent and personable. Only on board complaint was lack of variety of US TV. Wi-Fi is free but can vary due to terrain. Food is very good to excellent. Appropriate variety and always can order off menu which we did several times. Lovely local wine selection and appropriate beer to part of the country that you're traveling through. Free of course at lunch and dinner. The Viking river ships are all new and believe me it makes a difference. We saw some of the competitors such as Uniworld and they looked tired compared to Viking. The staff is uniformly excellent and trained to a Disney level of guest experience. Viking is the way to go! Read Less

The rooms had several American plugs so converters were not necessary. The wi-fi on the ship was actually very good even when we were moving. The service was exceptional and the cruise director, Marianne, was the best. The meals were delicious and I especially liked that you did not have to dress up for them. It was also nice that you were not assigned a table and could sit wherever you wanted. It was also nice to have a second lighter fare option with each meal. Beer and wine were included with lunch and dinner and that was a very nice perk. We had a piano player on board who provided entertainment during lunch, the cocktail hour, and most evenings after dinner. One night our cruise director sang and provided the entertainment. She really was a delight and very talented. We enjoyed the shore excursions and the guides spoke very good English which made the tours even better. Read Less

I choose this cruise because it was recommended by friends and I had never been to that part of Europe before. The guided tours were especially well done - informative and always with a competent guide who was from the area being visited. The service aboard the ship was outstanding - everyone and I mean everyone who works on the ship made you feel welcomed and cared for. It was a wonderful experience. The food was excellent - the struggle was not to over eat. My only concern about this trip was that we had to change ships (because of low water levels in the Danube) - for some reason we didn't bond the same way with the staff on our new ship, we were just getting comfortable with the first staff and boom, we had to move. Other people on the ship had the same experience. Mind you, this was a small adjustment to make and it was important that our programs director and concierge moved with us. I definitely want to take more cruises with Viking. Read Less

This was our second Viking River cruise. After the first one I swore I'd never do another. Then Viking made us an offer we couldn't refuse and we just returned from a 14 day Grand European Cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam. Now for sure we won't do another, mostly because we just aren't river cruise kind of people and found ourselves kind of bored several times during our 2 week adventure. Ocean cruising is much more our style. The Highs: Our program director, Daniela Ebert, was outstanding. This was her first cruise on this particular itinerary and everything went so smoothly you'd think she'd done this for years. If you ever have the chance to tour with Dani, you'll be in for a real treat. Like our previous Viking cruise, the service was excellent. The crew is very attentive and friendly, and they will bend over backwards to make sure you are happy. The food was close to the best cruise food we've ever had, and the menu often included local specialties. The complimentary wine with meals was fairly good too. The onboard entertainment was great, and if there weren't local performers, the program director arranged fun group games, similar to the ones you play on big cruise ships. If in-room movies are your thing, Viking had an extensive selection to choose from. Unfortunately, the onboard entertainment was quite limited. Dinner is at 7:00 and any entertainment is from 9-10:00. If the scheduled entertainment isn't something you enjoy, there are no other options. The Lows: While we made several stops along our journey and had many very good local guides, there simply was very little to do in between times. If you enjoy lots of quiet time this might suit you just fine. We like to have the option of several activities during down times on sea days or even on port days in the afternoon when you've returned from an excursion - like bridge, trivia, cooking demos, etc. Viking offered a few mini-lectures which we didn't find very interesting. So we watched movies in our room. Speaking of rooms, they are TINY! Our first Viking cruise room was on the "Aquarium Level" - if you were tall enough to peek out of the really high window you'd see the top of the water. This cruise we opted for a French Balcony (one "wall" is essentially a glass slider door so you have views. While this made for a lighter room, the size was identical. About 8" of space on either side of the bed, perhaps a foot at the end of the bed, a small bench under the vanity area, and a miniscule bathroom with a shower. That's it . . . no chair to sit in to read or watch TV. The Itinerary: Budapest and Vienna are large cities with lots to do. The rest of the trip consisted of visits to ABC ("another bloody church" or "another bloody castle") on walking tours. In looking over my photos just 2 days after returning, I can't tell one city from another. They were all "charming" with old, old buildings, fancy architecture, cobblestone streets, etc. My two favorite days were the cruising days in the Wachau Valley and the Rhine River. Daniela's commentary was great and the scenery was beautiful. We also liked the small village of Bamberg a lot. Did we have a good time? You bet - we always have fun on vacation. But like I said, the low key pace of river cruising coupled with the limited available activities is just too dull for us. We'll stick to ocean cruising from now on. Read Less

We took the Grand European cruise on the Viking Skirnir, since it covered a great deal of Europe. Viking made us very comfortable, and were quite accommodating. The rooms were comfortable, and always very clean. The meals were superb, fantastic wait staff. The shore excursions were superb. They were organized well, and most had a separate group for those that wanted less walking. The guides were knowledgeable and friendly, and the ship provided bottled water to all guests at each port. While I wondered if there would be a great deal of down time, since the ship was smaller than an ocean cruise, I found that the entertainment and activities provided were perfect. Each evening there was something provided, either local musicians, artisans, or speakers. We had stops every day, with plenty of time for shopping and sightseeing on our own. The cost of the cruise included so much that we did not have a large bill at the end. We plan on doing another Viking cruise. Read Less

We wanted a 2 week cruise to Amsterdam. It was our first river cruise so we picked Viking to try it. We had a new boat about 1 yr old. Had a nice stateroom that had a balcony and plenty of room. Food was good with smallish portions so hard to overeat. You could eat from the buffet at lunch or breakfast or order from the menu. The ports were all nice. We would have liked more time in Vienna but they had to schedule lock times that had to be kept. We went through 68 locks in the two weeks, some at night. The tour director David was great. They gave lectures on all the ports before we got there, the night before we docked. We walked a lot which was great for the exercise. We didn't gain any weight on the trip. We would definitely take another river cruise in the future. We were not seasick at all, and previously on ocean liners we had to take meds to avoid nausea.we would recommend Viking. We had a great time and met many people. Read Less

Our first trip to Europe, and we wanted to see as much as we could. This trip offered great tours in that part of Europe. This Viking river cruise was one of our best vacations. The staff on the Skirnir was excellent, the food was amazing and the wait staff were beyond exceptional! We had a French balcony room that was very nice, plenty of room, large closet and drawer space. The bathroom was small but very nice, the mirror never got fogged up, (they have heated mirrors and heated floors!) the room steward was excellent, cleaning the room twice a day and replenishing towels and toiletries. The shore and port excursions were very well planned and guides were very well informed. I highly recommend taking the tour to the top of the Cologne cathedral. This was probably one of the scariest thing I've done, as I'm not fond of heights, but I'm so glad I did it. Going up to the top of this cathedral was breathtaking and filled with so much information on the building and the maintenance. We went on all the included tours and a couple of the extra ones offered and enjoyed them all. Free internet is offered, but it was very spotty at times. We loved this trip and are looking forward to taking another Viking trip. I highly recommend this trip! Read Less
