It was recommended by several friends that had already taken it. It was important for us that it was a small cruise oriented to more mature people, navigated on a river, offered excursions in every Port, and everything was practically included. It was easy making reservations and getting more detailed information from the very professional travel agent from Viking. The ship was elegantly set, with many inviting seating arrangements, an upper Deck geared to socialize. Our suit Veranda AA was so comfortable with all the necessary amenities, and a lovely balcony. Dinning was compared to a five stars restaurant, at breakfast, lunch and dinner, the food was incredibly exquisite. The attention of the staff was also beyond expectations, not only they learned all our names, but they had a genuine smile on their faces at all times, and were so attentive and gracious. The entertainment after dinner was lovely and so much fun. We went with one of our daughters and son in law, in spite of being the youngest ones on the trip they also had a terrific time. The cities in the different countries visited, and the excursions on very comfortable buses, were a phenomenal cultured experience, completed by the expertise of the tour guides. Viking made the whole trip from beginning to end smoothly, enjoyable, and unforgettable. We are looking forward the next one. Read Less

It's impossible to describe the many excellent things on this cruise, the cabin, the crew, the entertainment each night was very good, the food was too good, and the tours were unbelievable too. We opted for the pre-cruise extra days in Budapest. Our hotel was marvelous and right in the middle of everything we wanted to see. All were a short walk away. The restaurants in the hotel and in the vicinity were all excellent too. Food on board was always well prepared and served by the staff in a very efficient manner. The choices were always great and I can't say enough about the choice of beverages at every meal. Entertainment was good too. Each evening program was well thought out and pertinent to our voyage on the river. Very entertaining at each stop. Our first cruise on a Viking river boat will not be our last one. We have already signed up for another cruise in fall 2018 and optional post cruise visit to a nearby city. Read Less

I wanted to see a snapshot of Europe in order to pick a country to go back to and spend more time. This cruise covered so many places that gave me an over view of Europe that it more than fulfilled my needs. The cabin was perfect with the slider so I could view the life on the river - water fowl, homes and towns. The dining was certainly adequate and knowing that the most gourmet foods are not always possible on a boat. The crew were very personable and remembered me during the trip which was so kind! The towns where the cruise stopped exceeded my expectations of European towns and the tours in the towns covered many aspects - culture, history, etc., which pleased me. It was a joy to have laundry service on the trip. I think Viking does an excellent job on their cruises and I hope to take another one soon. Read Less

It was our first Viking cruise. We wanted to try out Viking so we picked this cruise because of length and places we had never been. We had a wonderful time. Everything was what our friends told us it would be. Service was super even when we were delayed for a day. The cabin was nice and clean. Bed was comfortable, TV worked well and closet space was adequate. Meals were very tasty and the fellow passengers were lots of fun. it was nice to have a choice in where to eat. Afternoon cookies were a nice plus after tour for a day. The ability to eat in town was a plus too. The tours were very informative and with the whisper machine we were able to hear the tour guide. it was nice to be able to look around and still hear what was being said about the history of what we were seeing. We are now trying an ocean cruise next year. Read Less

Cruising the Danube River was something on my wife's bucket list. What an incredible journey it turned out to be. Starting in Budapest, we explored the city on our own before setting sail as well as taking the cruise provided tour. The included tours were very good and provided many highlights of all the ports we docked in. We took advantage of all that were offered and added several on our own. The highlight was a bike tour through the Wachau Valley wine country. Spectacular views at a leisurely pace. There were about 180 passenger aboard with a crew of 49 to attend to our needs. Very good service all around. Bartender was very knowledgeable. Food was very good. They offered local fair from all the ports we passed through which added to the romance of the cruise. Nightly entertainment was provided by locals which added flavor to the journey. We met some very nice people on board. Service was wonderful. After our final stop in Passau, we spent an additional 3 days in Prague. Great city. I'd recommend this cruise as a way to get a taste of Europe along one of her famous rivers. Read Less

The room was beautiful and spacious, I never felt confined. My husband who gets motion sick-ness had no issues. You never felt like you were moving, smooth sailing the entire time! The on shore excursions were perfect. The guides were very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful in every way. The entertainment and information sessions on the ship were an added hi-light. The crew were not only helpful, but actually had many other talents. They were singers, comedians and crowd pleasers in every way. They made sure everyone was having a great time, and we were! We wanted to try a river cruise through Central Europe , and Viking has a great reputation. Though the embarkation was not easy - we arrived in Budapest two days early on our own - we walked to the assigned dock not knowing our ship had been relocated for the World Cup FICA competition being held there starting that week. The ship is beautiful. It is comfortable, well appointed, easy to get around, and our cabin was very well designed and surprisingly spacious. The food is very good, though not of the same variety as an ocean cruise. The included excursions were all top notch; the guides, transport, itineraries, and durations were all great. Entertainment, while limited, was very good, and always engaging with the guests. The land portion of our cruise, to Salzburg and Munich, was very well organized and as enjoyable as the rest of the cruise, with 5-star hotels in both cities. We were given plenty of time to ourselves to see the sights outside of organized tours, as well. We hope to join Viking again in the future! Read Less

We had never been on a river cruise before, and we had never been to Germany, Austria, or the Czech Republic. This cruise was the answer! All the Viking shore excursions were excellent, but the most important thing became the 6 friends we came to know on the cruise. They made every meal a delight and every tour so much more fun. Our greatest disappointment was that we only had one day in Vienna. One needs at least two days in such an amazing European capital. Viking should work on this and make sure to include at least two full days in Vienna - perhaps, three! The funniest entertainer was one of the ship’s employees. He was German and he was a great comedian. I know - it sounds like a contradiction in terms. The “singer” was so-so, but the pianist was outstanding. The after dinner entertainment could have been improved a bit, but, honestly, we were so tired, bed sounded good! Read Less

Word of mouth says Viking are by far the best. After one week covering 5 countries in seven days without unpacking and repacking I can highly recommend this cruise. Service exceptional and quality food, stateroom classy and kept exceptionally clean. Tours broad and varied and comprehensive. Management friendly and super organised. Sail was smooth and on time perfectly. Dining experience from a comprehensive breakfast buffet with optional waiter service, a two venue choice for lunch, and immaculately presented and tasty dinner dining experience, every request and allergy catered for, nothing was too much trouble for Cruz the maitre D and his unified and positively cheery crew. All tours had local guides with an immense knowledge of the Cities, customs, history and colourful stories that made every destination enchanting. The housekeeping crew on board are exceptional, every detail in our stateroom was attended to, and the speed and efficiency that these crew work at is an immense achievement all co ordinated by the super competent Marina. I get a email once a week on cruises from Vacations To Go and found this cruise which included 2 cities on my bucket list Budapest and Prague. We did the pre in Budapest and the post in Prague. I can't say enough about the entire experience. The hotels the service was great, the Viking staff at each hotel very attentive to our every need or request. The Ingvi was fantastic. Clean, organized & well run. our cabin was just enough room for two people and the food was excellent and plentiful. The entertainment was always very good, but one evening was extra special when our cruise director David was the entertainment. What a marvelous surprise, he had a superb voice and a great sense of humor. The activities on ship were nice. The service and attention to detail went beyond my expectations. The excursions were again above expectations both from the ship and the hotels. Getting to see things we otherwise would not have on our own. First time with Viking and will not be the last, we are booked for the Holy Land in 2018! If that tells no one how we see Viking let me explain. The trip on the Ingvi was a great experience. The crew seamed to be able to read minds anticipating our request before the were asked. They were not overbearing but always available for any needed help with anything truly superior service. The Dining choices were great with local fare and old staples served in a very pleasant unhurried atmosphere. I for one have not been catered to any finer anywhere I have ever traveled. The excursions were as explained in the literature with no surprises. We could have spent more time in some places but we would not have been able to see all the places we saw if we had. The add on trip to Prague was almost as nice as the Ingvi with great accommodations at the Hilton and great food choices also. I learned a lot about places I had never seen and people I had never visited with before this was truly great experience. On the way out a Viking staff member insured we were at our flight on time even helping with Tax exemption at the airport. Read Less

I was very interested in the European history and the areas that this cruise was covering. I do have one suggestion to add and that is not to have so much leisure time when visiting a site. For Czechi Kremlov, we had about 2 hours for lunch and leisure time. Whereas that could have been shortened by an hour to give us time to visit inside the castle. This tour was around the castles and not being able to visit inside the castle was disappointing. I think a better planning on the time would be much better received by your customers. We really enjoyed the intimate setting and staff's attention to all details. Our tour coordinators were great and we can not say enough for their dedication and knowledge to serving your guests. Also, food was really good. Enjoyed the lavish breakfast buffet every morning. We would definitely be taking more Viking River cruises in the future. Read Less

We had heard that Viking was the best and they proved it. The itinerary had places that we had never been yet also allowed us to revisit some of our past favorites. The size of the ship allowed us to get to know many of our shipmates and gain lasting friendships. With less than 200 passengers rather than thousands, we also knew most of our crew and felt comfortable asking questions. The food was superb. There were many local specialties as well as other international fares available. The waiters always had very solid recommendations. The excursions were excellent. We were very impressed with the former Eastern cities like Budapest, Bratislava, and Cesky Krumlov. Our favorite days were in Cesky Krumlov and Salzburg. Some passengers were a little surprised that meals were not included after disembarking in Passau and being bussed to Salzburg and Munich. So be prepared if you are not on the ship some days. We were attracted to the small ship experience after hearing horror stories about the cattle- car voyages others told us about. The small ship Viking river cruises had great reviews and their attention to detail made the cruise a great value. The room, the food and the staff all surpassed our expectations. The excursions were a delight and the optional ones (even though they were pricey) really added a lot to the total experience. We arrived two days early in Budapest after a trying flight from Portland, Oregon to Budapest on Delta Airlines. Through no fault of Viking, we arrived eight hours late and in spite of notifying Viking no one met us the airport. We took a cab and Viking apologized and reimbursed us. Budapest is an exciting and vibrant city; the Budapest Intercontinental was an amazing surprise. We wish we had booked several more days there. Most of the shore excisions were fun and informative but we would recommend that you diplomatically insist on what you want from the guide if you feel short changed. We plan to go again when we can arrange it, perhaps to the Mediterranean or British Isles. Viking is a great company! Read Less

We are 3 couples who usually cruise ocean ships but decided to travel across Europe by Viking Riverboat. As our excitement grew during the planning phase, we were joined by two other couples of friends. We were booking fairly late in the season so were lucky to get 5 cabins close together on the lower level. None of us had ever cruised with Viking before. We all thoroughly enjoyed the adventure and have become fans of Viking. All five couples are senior and do not share the same interests or physical abilities. We found the Viking cruise allowed us to be a group but still have independent activities. We requested and got the one table large enough to all of us for dinners so we ate together, sharing tales of our adventures that day. Actually we found another guest who was 93 traveling alone and managed to get him at our table as well. Our independence began with embarkation: three couples did the Viking pre-cruise tour in Budapest, another came one night early and booked their stay themselves and the fifth couple came straight to the ship from the airport. We all very much enjoyed Budapest. We all experienced a very easy embarkation procedure. Most of us usually travel in cabins with balconies so we were not sure how we would like rooms on the lower level with high windows. We all found this to not be an issue. During travel on the river we found going to the lounge or up on the outside decks offered an opportunity to see both sides of the river and gave the added benefit of enjoying visiting other passengers, A feature which we really enjoyed were the included tours. Viking usually includes one at each stop. All five couples used this basic tour to get an overview of the city or village and then we each did our own things for the rest of the time. One couple did extensive hiking tours; 3 couples often signed up for the optional tours in the city while the fifth couple stayed on board reading or touring near the docked riverboat. We enjoyed the itinerary across Europe, getting a good feel for the land as it changes across the countries. I remember our excitement at encountering the first lock but soon we were veterans of passing though locks and began assessing them on depth raised or lowered, as well as the length and size of the lock itself. By the end of the cruise we were talking about where we could go for our next Viking cruise. This one on the Viking Ingvi just got us started! Read Less

Travelled from Budapest to Amsterdam. Although some on boat were disappointed that there was no chance to explore before disembarking but to be fair to Viking this was explained in brochure and they did offer additional stay option in a hotel Free wiFi was patchy at time but we were travelling on river between signal. Large to had on board cameras and also offered a range of films Wine and beer served at lunch and dinner was plentiful. Coffee station available 24 hrs a day Would recommend to others. One point to note that out of 187 travellers there were only 6 British the majority were Americans. We splurged on this Viking cruise for our 40th wedding anniversary = this was our first river cruise, having done many ocean trips in the last five years. Viking did everything possible to make our cruise wonderful (including a special anniversary cake on the 1st nite in the dining room) - The service, the stateroom, the food, the city tours. From the pickup in Budapestt to the drop off in Amsterdam the staff was engaging, personable and responsive to any request that we had. The ship was clean and very easy to navigate, being smaller and much more intimate than an ocean liner. Our stateroom (an upgraded suite!) was fantastic, roomy and a great view of all the passing scenery. The bathroom (roomy) and amenities were particularly nice. The dining and food service was very good. A nice variety (local dishes and American favorites) with a staff that responded to special requests and provided great service. The entertainment is not comparable to an ocean cruise, but we enjoyed the offerings very much. Particulary special was a glass blowing demonstration by a local artist. I would strongly recommend Viking and the Grand European tour as a very special two weeks. Read Less

This was our 40th anniversary trip & our first River Cruise. From beginning to end, it was superb! We had WONDERFUL weather, great tour guides, excellent accommodations, & awesome Viking staff! We were treated to an anniversary serenade & dessert at dinner 2 hrs after embarkation! On the last evening on board, I asked HOW the staff knew who we were, and they chuckled as to how they pulled it off(at check in, the desk staff sneaked a picture of us-unbeknownst to us, and the walked the dining room to find us, then notified the Maitre D where we were sitting!). We made lots of friends that we will hopefully keep in touch with after the trip! In hindsight, we wished we had extended our trip at BOTH ends, Budapest and Amsterdam, as we didn't know what to expect, and wished we could have spent more time in BOTH cities. Glass blower had a demo on the boat- AWESOME! We have shared our trip memories with family & friends & would DEFINITELY do it again. My sister & her best friend (& both spouses), have already booked a Viking River cruise for next summer (on our strong recommendation)! The staff also helped me surprise my husband by celebrating his birthday which also happened to fall during our cruise! We enjoyed the included tours and also booked several extra tours that were also a great value! We felt like royalty in our mini suite! Read Less

This was our first River Cruise and we could not have been more pleased. The crew of the Ingvi went out of their way to may this cruise a memorable experience. Because the number of passengers is small, we got to know many of the other passengers and everyone raved about the customer service, food, individual assistance, and daily shore excursions. The entire cruise is very organized. Someone said it is like a Swiss watch times 100. Disembarkation was effortless and all questions were answered before I even had the chance to ask them. I highly recommend this ship and its crew. The daily tours were very historical, with beautiful scenery and knowledgeable tour guides. There was usually plenty of time to tour on our own after the guides part. Special arrangements were made for guests with difficultly keeping up. The food was near gourmet quality and the servers were great. They quickly learned each travelers likes and dislikes and often made recommendations based on that. Every evening the crew held a meeting that explained what to expect the next day and what their recommendations were for that evening meal. Read Less

Kudos to the staff and crew of the Viking ship Ingvi! We embarked on the Ingvi on July 16, 2016 and from the moment we boarded the vessel to the moment we left, we have nothing but rave reviews for their excellent service, professional demeanor and personal interactions. The embarkation process, including transfer to the boat from the airport, boarding and accommodation while we waited for our cabin to be prepared (we arrived very early, so passengers from the previous cruise were still disembarking), was extremely smooth. During that process, we got acquainted with the reception desk staff, Nikolina, Viktoria and Alexsandre, as well as the Hotel Manager, Krisztina, folks who we would see and talk to daily throughout the cruise. Within a few days they knew us by name AND cabin number and always cheerfully assisted us with whatever issues we were having at the time. The issues that arose were generally procedural items: - Collecting shore cards pre-excursions - Swapping out audio devices for the excursions when we forgot to recharge overnight - Questions about onboard scheduling As it was raining when we got on the ship (the only one thing that the Ingvi staff seemed to be unable to control), we were only willing to tour the interior parts of the ship, initially. From the get-go, the ship seemed to be extremely clean and tidy, well managed and classy. Our opinion of this aspect of the ship never wavered, as the ship was perfectly maintained throughout the voyage. We met our cabin attendant, Benjamin, almost immediately upon being given access to our cabin. He was very personable, always with a smile and pleasant word. He did a wonderful job maintaining the cleanliness of the room and providing us with pleasant surprises like bedtime chocolates and towel origami (he left us with several animals assembled entirely from bath towels, including an elephant and bulldog). One feeling you will never experience if you take a Viking cruise is one of hunger. The dining experience aboard the Ingvi was exceptional. From the selection, quality and flavor of food, to the service, we were never left wanting. Mostly because, if you found yourself wanting anything, there was always a member of the staff, from our maître d'hôtel, Nina, to our many servers, including Marlon, Alexandru, Joanna, Richard, and even the executive chef, Denes, to address your desire immediately. As we sailed from country to country, the cuisine included regional specialities, in addition to many alternate selections. The regional specialities included foods like: Hungarian goulash and Dobas torté, German bratwurst and sauerkraut and Black Forest cake. All of the food was delicious and there wasn't a sugary treat that we didn't pass up! Not until the third day of the trip did we venture out onto the upper deck (it rained throughout our the first two days, so there was no reason to explore), where we were to spend hours at a time watching the scenery sail by. Like the interior of the ship, the exterior was extremely well maintained, with all passenger-accessible areas remaining organized and tidy throughout the cruise. The ship was in fantastic condition. The program director for our ship was Rob Wheatley from South Africa. He was fantastic. Extremely approachable, always amusing, he ran a very good program. From excursions to onboard entertainment, Rob coordinated all aspects of the experience. He was careful to explain the level of activity (or difficulty) of some of the excursions and was always prepared to offer alternate choices in town if the terrain was steep or included many steps that might prove difficult for some of the passengers. When describing the many optional excursions, he provided objective information about each, never pushing any of the excursions on us. Rob made sure that every passenger was able to participate in the activities of their choosing. The evening and nightly entertainment was provided by a gifted musician from Hungary, Danny. During cocktail hours before and after dinner, he would fill the lounge with beautiful piano music. He played a wide variety of styles, ranging from classical and easy listening music while people were quietly enjoying cocktails, to upbeat jazz and rock songs that people could sing along with and dance to late into the night. We love to dance, and he seemed to revel in playing dance music for us, ranging from slow waltzes and foxtrots to upbeat swings and cha-chas. Danny came prepared, but was open to any song suggestions made. How wonderful to have such an amazing pianist with us the entire cruise! In addition to Danny, our program director arranged for some unique local entertainment, including a Klesmer group, glass-blowing demonstration, and a classical duo, piano and violin, who knocked our socks off with their amazing performances! The Grand European Tour was truly spectacular with the ports of call and excursions that were offered, both included and optional. The included walking tours were led by guides that were extremely knowledgeable and eager to share information about the people, the history, and the culture of the cities. They would add personal anecdotes to help the information come alive to us. Viking did a fabulous job of not just showing us beautiful cities, but helped us learn and understand more about the cities we were viewing. Optional excursions were varied and included musical concerts, food, wine or beer tastings, castle visits, museums, and even other nearby cities not on the standard itinerary like Salzburg or Munich. Our favorite was the Top of the Town tour in Cologne, where we were taken to the top of the cathedral, inside and outside, and were provided with an incredible history of the cathedral as well as breathtaking views of the city from on high. By the time we disembarked from the ship two weeks later, we felt as if we were family of most of the staff. They truly went above and beyond in their service to guests, to us. They genuinely seemed happy to help us with any needs that we had. The staff usually anticipated any needs and had provided us with most things before we even had to ask. They far exceeded any expectations we had coming onto the ship. The services they provided and the attention they gave us were personalized and individualized. Upon leaving the ship, we found ourselves saddened to leave our new family members, the staff, and even shed a few tears knowing how much we would miss them. Now that our cruise is over, and we reflect on our amazing vacation, we are most grateful for having selected Viking as our cruise line. The top of the line service, memorable staff, amazing excursions, and fantastic ship all contributed in making memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you, Viking! We look forward to our next adventure with you! Read Less

My husband had always wanted to do a Danube River cruise [ Grand European Tour ] from Budapest to Amsterdam. We had in previous years seen many of the land areas and decided to see the wetter side. This was our third cruise with Viking. This ship and the one we had cruised on in the Netherlands, was a little smaller than our cruise on the Yangtze river in China. Over all, the space was a little less but fine. The entire crew and service was excellent. They participated in the activities with the passengers and there was always someone close at hand when we were out on a tour conducted by a local guide. In preparation for the tour, Viking sent us a ' learn to say a few phrases ' video in each of the languages/countries we visited. Although many of the locals we met spoke English [ as a 2nd or 3rd language ], it helped in 'bonding' when we at least tried to say Hello or Thank you. Read Less

We invited people that we meet in previous cruises from Australia and meet new friends from Texas. It was a vacation that is one you can enjoy and don't feel like you ran a marathon for port to port. The crew was outstanding and can take of special requests and the head waiter took care of my wife requests. The wine was excellent and never ran out of ... Read Less

Have you ever wanted to pinch yourself to see if you were having a dream? That is exactly how I felt when I arrived in Budapest, Hungary. While I had been to Europe on three previous occasions, this trip was vastly different. After forty ocean cruises, my Dad and I were embarking on our first Viking River Cruise adventure, aboard the beautiful Viking Ingvi longship. Although it wasn’t a dream, the storybook landscapes did resemble a fairy tale! From Hungary to Austria and Germany to the Netherlands, we listened to magnificent philharmonic orchestras, explored the inside of castles and windmills, and tasted delightful delicacies. If you want to feel like royalty, take the Grand European Tour with Viking River Cruises. They treat passengers like Kings and Queens! Before the sun went down on our first evening aboard the Ingvi, we enjoyed our first Viking River Cruise dinner experience. It was simply incredible. I chose the Hungarian Farmer’s Plate for my first course, the Hungarian Goulash for my second course, and Hungarian layer cake for my dessert. The perfect meal to eat while in Hungary (or in any other part of the globe – it was amazing). Following our marvelous meal, the Captain took the entire longship for a sightseeing cruise to see the lights of the city. Budapest is so beautiful at night, with all of the buildings lit up! What an incredible sight to see! On the second evening, the Captain held a welcome aboard party that evening as a prelude to dinner. My menu selections included the potato crusted mascarpone cheese with a truffle sabayon sauce for my first course, Chateaubriand with buttered vegetables, potatoes, and a béarnaise sauce for my entrée, and a strawberry sponge cake for dessert. It was the perfect way to end another perfect day. The ship became a family in virtually no time at all. The majority of crew members knew our names by the second day of the cruise. The Viking Ingvi Crew provided excellent service. From Csaba, the Bar Chef, to Krisztina, the Hotel Manager, and of course, Rob, the Program Director, Tamara, the Concierge, Vivijen, the Receptionist, Daniel, the Musician, Judit, Bar Waitress, and Bojana, the Maître D', all of the crew on board worked hard to ensure that our river cruise was nothing short of exceptional. Many others contributed to an phenomenal cruise as well. Their meticulous service is very much appreciated. Many of the crew members became friends over the course of our two-week sailing. As a little girl, I dreamed of going to Austria, home of The Sound of Music. Now, as a young woman, my wish was fulfilled. We spent three days in this beautiful country, beginning with a scenic sail through scenery that made me want to sing out, “The hills are alive…” Well, you get the picture. The first part of the day found us dining on delicious meals, watching an apple strudel demonstration, and viewing remarkable scenery. Following a wonderful meal and a delightful “day at river,” we sprung for the Mozart and Strauss Concert that evening. Sitting on the front row of Schubert Hall, I was captivated by the excellent musicianship and talent that exuded from the platform as the Vienna Residence Orchestra performed. To welcome us back on the ship, the chef prepared Goulash soup and fresh baked bread as a late night snack, which was the perfect way to conclude a delightful evening. Break out your lederhosen and dirndls! The first stop in Bavaria is Passau, Germany, home of the world’s largest cathedral pipe organ, boasting more than 17,000 pipes! Thanks to Viking, we were able to attend a concert to hear this monstrous musical instrument being played. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, sharing a detailed history of the “Three Rivers City,” named for the three rivers that converge in Passau: the Danube, Inn, and Ilz Rivers. While Viking provides an excellent complimentary excursion in most ports, we chose to take the World War II tour in Nuremberg, Germany. As a Language Arts teacher, I am required to teach the Holocaust. Teaching this difficult subject becomes a little easier when I can share personal experiences with my students, such as touring Congress Hall and Courtroom 600, where the Nuremberg Trials were held. While this tour was quite the somber experience, our lovely tour guide has now become a dear friend. Fondly known as the glass blowing capital of the world, Wertheim is home to a multi-generational family of glass blowers, one of whom came on the ship to give a demonstration. It was always exciting to have local artisans and performers join us on the ship for quality entertainment. What a treat to be notified by the Viking Concierge that the Cologne Philharmonic Orchestra was holding a free concert that afternoon! It was one of the most enjoyable concerts we experienced on our Grand European Tour. One of the most exciting dinners on board was the Viking Taste of Germany Dinner menu, including roast leg of port, bratwurst, tiroler knödel, sauerkraut, knödel, Viennese schnitzel, roast chicken, grilled käsekrainer, potato salad, and much more! Throughout this Grand European Tour, there were moments when goose bumps covered my arms, tears filled my eyes, and my heart was overwhelmed with joy. While my diary entries were scattered, at best, I am certain I will never forget the places we explored, the remarkable experiences we shared, and the many strangers we now call friends. My first Viking River Cruise etched indelible memories in my mind and effectively tugged on my heartstrings as well. As we received our customs form on the flight home, the reality of returning to the “real world,” began to sink in. Yet I encouraged myself with this thought: all good things must come to an end, so new ones can begin. So now the only question that remains is: when will I set sail with Viking once again? I invite you to view my full photo log of our trip at http://www.jennifersjourneys.net/photolog.html. I am happy to answer any questions you have concerning Viking River Cruises or the destinations we visited. I would love to hear your recommendations for future travel plans as well! Excellent chance to see Europe from the Danube, Rhine Rivers and associated canals aboard a very stable, quiet and comfortable new ship. Excellent crew, staff, food, accommodations and passengers. Included shore excursions were very well organized and informative. Extended shore excursion in Amsterdam was excellent as was the Movenpick Hotel and staff. Viking reps were present from the time we departed customs in Budapest until we arrived at the Amsterdam airport. I have been unsuccessful in reaching the Ingvi with the email supplied by one of the guides at concierge.ingvi@vikingcruises.com We definitely would take another cruise with Viking and have recommended it to friends. I've requested a copy of the onboard magazine Explore by Viking Cruises but was informed they are not available. Viking supplied excellent travel documentation prior to our Canadian departure and everything went according to the itineraries. The meals were well presented in both restaurants and the service was excellent. The onboard tour guides, bar and cooking staff were excellent as well. Even the weather was excellent! Read Less
