I was not fond of ocean cruises when I saw the river cruise ads I was intrigued! I am so pleased that I decided this was the adventure for me. If you are looking for a more intimate, peaceful and pampered experience this is the route for you. I cannot say enough about the onboard service. The food alone was worth the trip, like eating at a 4star restaurant 3 times a day!!!! Wine and spirits ...
This was our first river cruise and we chose it because of our interest in the Lower Danube and countries that were once behind the iron curtain. The River Duchess was apparently refitted in 2020 for the 2021 season which was cut short due to COVID. It appears to us that carpets, mattresses, paint, laundry facilities, etc. were all new. The staff was excellent. Restaurant seating was assigned as ...
We've done ocean cruises for years and decided to try a river cruise because we always wanted to see the Danube. We chose Uniworld since it was a boutique line with good reviews. We did the 9 night Delightful Danube and Prague on the SS Beatrice on July 24, 2019. We opted for the 2 day pre-extension in Budapest.
Overall the vacation was good. But given the price, I would say it failed to ...
I'm going to break my review into some basic areas that really are the things most folks look for on river cruise. The Tours, Food, Accommodations, Ambiance and staff. Let me start with the easiest first...Staff.
Staff: Uniworld certainly knows what it's doing when it comes to hiring the "best of the best" as we found each and every person on board to be kind, engaging, fun, service oriented ...
We sailed in October 2018, when the Danube and Rhine were terribly low. Much of Europe was in a drought all summer, and the captain told us he's never seen the rivers this bad. It was affecting all of the cruise lines, not just Uniworld. So we had some disruptions, but we still had a great time.
We left Budapest a day early because of the river, but got an extra day in Vienna, which was great. ...
We have sailed with Uniworld 8 times in the past, 6 times in Europe plus once each in China and Egypt.
We embarked in Budapest which we'd visited before so didn't spend any extra time before the cruise started. Uniworld picked us up at the airport and delivered us to the ship with no hitches whatsoever.
As usual, the food was excellent and Dimitar, the restaurant manager was the best ...
Took this trip as a Christmas Market trip- Uniworld delivered. However, I would do the Danube River again and make sure we took in more of the historical parts of the cities - we missed out on that - to be fair we booked a Christmas Market trip - so it wasn't a Uniworld thing.
Cities are amazing.
Ship is spectacular. Clean, beautiful, crew was friendly and helpful.
We found we had ...
We have done several ocean cruises but this is the first river cruise, so our comparison point is not with other river cruises.
We had a very enjoyable time overall. The smaller ship (~150) was cozy and let the staff be more flexible in arrangements.
The ship facilities were good overall. The excursions were great. The quietvox system they used was really useful.
For the biking ...
We wanted to experience Eastern Europe, not having been there before, and chose an 8 day cruise between Budapest and Passau. The shore excursions were informative without being great and we sometimes had only brief periods to explore the cities/towns on our own. Our on board experience was mostly good and all the crew were ultra-attentive and always helpful. The restaurant service was impeccable ...
Service was top notch, ship is great but food was disappointing.
Buffet style breakfast and lunch every day. When we told the maitre'd that we didnt like that style they brought us menus and did an excellent job of providing us with table service but the food just lacked something. Chef tried very had but we think he was handcuffed by the quality of the food and also by the dietary habits of ...
