I have always wanted to try a river cruise because I have always travelled on ocean cruises.
I liked the smaller amount of people, the ports were exquisite, you could see land on both sides of the ship always, no rocking of the boat, the excursions were good except for one where we could not understand our guide. The cons were there was not a lot of choice as far as food, the rooms are small ...
Our Scenic 5***** Tsar Cruise in 2017, from Moscow to Saint Petersburg, was so marvelous in every way that it inspired us to take the Scenic Pearl cruise and explore Gems of the Danube with Prague, from Budapest to Prague in 2019. Unfortunately, we are not inspired anymore.
We cannot call Gems of Danube a Five Star Cruise and we assigned the Stars as follows:
Staff: The only aspect of the ...
Maybe we have high expectations? I just don't understand how so many people can say "Fantastic, Wonderful, Amazing" In my experience there is always room to improve. On our cruise we had "lock" problems so were unable to reach our last port of call and were transferred via bus. Made for a very long and uncomfortable day. In general the ports we visited were nice, but I wouldn't be interested ...
We booked this on our travel agents recommendation, as we told her that we wanted a 5+ star experience and the best ship/company.
Also, this was our first river cruise. We've done about a dozen ocean cruises on various lines.
Needless to say we were quite disappointed. Overall the staff on board was great. Super friendly, accommodating and tried really hard.
The ship itself is old, ...
We chose this cruise based on the marketing done by scenic and had expectations of a five star luxury cruise. This was not the case, the air conditioning on the ship was inconsistent in the lounge and the bar service was slow with inattentive servers. The first time we called our “butler”, there was no answer. Apparently, they are also waiters and thus not always readily available.
The ...
This was a Danube cruise, Budapest to Nuremburg. Due to low water on the river, the ship discharged passengers just beyond Regensburg, busing those who were departing from Nuremburg and to Prague for those who had signed up for it.
At this, we considered ourselves fortunate, because we heard that some other cruise captains refused to go on past Vienna. Ours did go on, although it was ...
We choose this cruise because we had done the Rhine and this looked like a decent alternative for our next cruise. The day trips on this cruise required more bus time then the Rhine cruise which made for long long days. The low water level caused us to have to change ships too days prior to the end of the cruise this made for hectic travel time of packing and unpacking. The kitchen and bar staff ...
We liked the itinerary of this cruise however, the river was low and we were informed at 6pm the previous evening could only board at Passau not Nuremberg. We arrived in Munich Airport at 11am - our baggage did not arrive until 12.15, we could not find the meeting staff for Emerald - no signs - no notices at the cafe proposed for the meeting. We were then approached by a lady with no ...
We did a European river boat cruise with Scenic. With river cruises you need to be aware that if river levels are either to high or to low your cruise may become a bus tour. We were very fortunate that we were able to go all the way from Budapest to Amsterdam. The ports we came to were all beautiful and full of history. Our ships cruise director did a wonderful job. Scenic gears there ...
Having taken two previous river cruises with a different line, we were under the impression that Viking were the top line to sail with so booked a week on the Budapest to Passau Danube Waltz. We travelled with friends and opted for two nights in Budapest at the Hilton on the Buda side. The hotel and location were perfect and we enjoyed our time in Budapest very much. However, when it came time to ...
