We chose Uniworld after being told by the travel agent and the Uniworld rep. that the trip that they offer would meet our "bucket list" vacation as well as our anniversary. We were told that the ships, service, excursions, etc. were first rate and all of our dreams would be fulfilled. They took our deposit in March 2017 and the $15000 trip for my wife and me was paid by June 2018. When we arrived in Budapest in October, we were told by the Uniworld rep that the water levels were low and that we would need to change ships the 2nd day. We would again change ships another time during the vacation. We found out from the captains of 2 ships that the problems were going on for over 5 weeks. Yet, we heard nothing from the Company or our travel agent prior to the trip. In fact, another passenger had an email from a rep at Uniworld 2 weeks before the trip stating there was no issues on any of the rivers. In addition, the CEO of Uniworld sent a note to all passengers the 2nd week offering 200 dollars to use on the ship and 1500 credit for a trip taken in 2019. For your information, there is a limited area for all passengers to purchase anything. We bought an overpriced swiss army knife and woman's watch. It is doubtful we or any of the passengers we spoke with will use the cruise credit. We ended up taking bus tours more than cruising. We had itineraries change. Missed at least 4 of the ports we were supposed to see. Excursions were cut short. Oftentimes, the guides weren't aware we were coming. Excuses became the norm. Nobody from Uniworld corporate came. Even after returning and writing the CEO, Ellen Bettridge, we received a canned response a month after the letter was sent. The Company took the "low road" in not meeting our expectations and not alerting us of the water issues. They could have told us. Their reps could have alerted us, but they didn't. Says a lot about the Company. Read Less

This being our first River Cruise, we were unsure of what to expect, however all fears were put aside from the first moment we were met by our Uniworld Representative at Budapest airport. The welcome was professional and warm and we were soon on our way to the dock in a luxurious vehicle. The Reception on board The River Princess was just as welcoming and we were invited to enjoy a lunch while our Room was being prepared. We were greatly impressed by the River Princess's Décor. Our experience on the two week European Jewels Cruise was one of wonder and enchantment. The variety of high quality, intimate shore excursions along with the professionalism of our guides was something we hadn't experienced before. Heidicha, our energetic Cruise Director was entertaining, funny and always ready to assist when necessary. The service supplied by all staff was amazingly caring. We enjoyed our nights listening to the River Princess Cocktail Musician and Guest Entertainers. The Dining Room Food selection and quality was 6 star. Not forgetting the 1st Class wine selection chosen from the various localities we travelled through. Hopefully it won't be too long before we enjoy another Uniworld Cruise Read Less

This cruise was recommended by my travel consultant. Met all my expectations. What stood out was the friendliness and professionalism of all the staff, always with a smile on their faces and nothing was too much trouble. I had a bit of a medical problem while on board and they went to no end of trouble to help me get it sorted out. There was a good choice of outings in each port, all included in the cost of the trip. There were a few special trips that you could pay extra to go on. Didn't really need to do these as the free ones were all excellent and catered for different fitness levels. Food was excellent - plenty of variety and well-presented. Drinks and coffee were always available at no extra charge. I enjoyed going to the Piano Bar each evening for the entertainment. Csabo (?) provided good music - easy to listen to and he would play requests when asked. Great trip and I would recommend to anyone. Intend going on another of your cruises in the future. Read Less

This was our first river cruise and we had never heard of UniWorld prior to our travel agent recommending them. Well I have to say, this company was fantastic, great food, wonderful crew who couldn't do enough to help and assist. One of the guest fell ill during the cruise, the captain arranged a taxi, went with the couple to the hospital, translated for them and waited with them until they could return to the boat, this was amazing service. We were not just guest, we felt like family, up there as one of our best holidays and we have had a few. All drinks were included in the price and there was no shortage of them, shore excursions were well planned with no issues and our entertainer engaged with us in a happy and friendly manner. We made a number of friends during this trip and hope to keep in contact with them in the future. My husband and I would defintely do another Uniworld trip. Read Less

Where to begin... The ship is beautiful, the staff is friendly and efficient (I've never seen people work so hard, and always with a smile), the food was gourmet - fresh, delicious, cultural selections, the sailing was smooth and scenic, the tours were well planned and informative (wonderful tour guides), and we wanted for NOTHING! Although I was worried that I would be anxious about the time away from home (tacked a few days on before/after) and that I'd be bored after 14 days, that was not the case. Each day was different, each port offered something else, and the longer we were all together the friendlier the group became. Loved that there were only 130 passengers - felt like home. All non-suite cabins are the same size, and I found ours more than comfortable. There is plenty of storage, and it was very convenient that our suitcases fit beneath our bed, so once we unpacked that was it for the cruise. We were in the lowest area of the ship, and I enjoyed being more or less at water level. We didn't spend much time in the room anyway, absent sleeping on the ultra-comfy beds, so I was fine with not having paid extra for a full-window view. There was a convenient laundry area (complimentary), a library/game area, and the common areas of bar/dining/lobby. In addition to the visits ashore at each beautiful port, there was also onboard entertainment - regional demonstrations and even an oompah band while cruising through Germany. An optional excursion in Vienna (paid for with ship credit) was to a concert in a beautiful monastery - I was overwhelmed with emotion at making that memory. While I had some concern that I wouldn't have the right wardrobe for a "boutique" excursion, I needn't have worried. Even the formal nights were nice-casual, so no need to have brought "fancy" stuff. I would absolutely choose Uniworld again, and my bucket list dream would be to have my adult children along for the next adventure. Beyond memorable, and I have about 1700+ photos to provide me with a remembrance of this awesome time. Read Less

We found this to be the nicest cruise line that we have been on. The service was wonderful, great food, open bar, excursions included, gratuities included and we found the ship to be in excellent condition on all levels. Our cabin was quite roomy and the bathroom was very nice. The staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. We chose to arrive in Budapest two days prior to the cruise and found that to be a great idea. We got used to the time change and were able to do some exploring on our own. The embarkation went so quickly and smoothly that it was over before I knew it. The ports and excursions were well thought out and Uniworlds guides were very good. The on board entertainment was much better than we had expected bringing in some local talent from villages along the way. We will recommend Uniworld to our friends. We chose Uniworld because we had sailed with them last year and so enjoyed the whole experience. The staff are amazing, friendly, helpful, even though English is not their language. The food was excellent and abundant. The dining room staff were attentive and friendly. The excursions are amazing. We visited sites, towns and places we had no idea existed showing the very long and varied past of the Balkans. We saw advanced civilizations that predated Stonehenge by thousands of years. The guides were extraordinarily knowledgeable, well spoken in excellent English and many times down right funny in explaining their proud history. We visited a fisherman's home and saw that all fisherman are the same the world over. And, no extra cost! We are going to do it again. As a master mariner and oceanographer, I wouldn't go with anyone else if there is a choice. We are planning on returning next year (2017). Read Less

We wanted to see Budapest, Vienna and Prague all in one trip. Uniworld was recommended by friends who travel the world and had also been on Uniworld. They said there was a focus on food and wine - our focus as well! We were not disappointed. Food, wine, service and wonderful staff. The trip was also "all inclusive", which made things so easy. All the tours were good as were the guides. The only extra was an abbey tour and concert in Vienna which was a highlight! The ship looked better in person than the brochure. Rooms were adequate with bathrooms on the smaller side, but all very nice and super clean as were all the areas. All staff were most accommodating, food choices plentiful and wine/snacks continuously offered in all areas. We have been on several cruise ships, and we really liked having only 100+ people. We made some good friends, and enjoyed everyone. We had an extra day in Budapest and also Prague. There is so much to see in both cities. Read Less

This was my first river cruise and it was wonderful. The river cruise is definitely more relaxing than any ocean cruise. You do not spend much time in your room so as long as the bed is comfortable and it is clean I am happy. Our room was fine comfortable bed plenty of closet space. I thought the food on the cruise was good to very good I think I was expecting too much but again it was good. I definitely would suggest going to the daily briefings it has with the next day planning. I attend one of the briefings and found out about alfesco dining the next night and signed up and it was wonderful. It takes place up on the sun deck and only 20 people can attend but it was great. I loved all the ports and the excursions were very good my only complaint was not enough time in the ports. All in all it was a wonderful cruise and would definitely recommend this cruise. Read Less

Lovely ship, crew was friendly and ready to help with any issues. The on board food was abundant and tasty. The off ship adventures were educational, not to stressful (meaning there was no really hard walking required) and fun. Our cabin was well organized and had plenty of room and storage for 2 suit cases under the bed. The lounge was always open, with friendly staff, and a relaxing place to hang out between on-board and off-ship adventures. The daily talks were entertaining and had lots of information about upcoming events. When there was an issue with getting under a bridge, they adjusted quickly and provided an 0ff-boat excursion into an area we had not been to or was on the schedule. While the high water wasn't the Cruise Line's problem, they stepped up and had a work around solution that was fun and enjoyable. Ready to do another cruise with UniWorld next year! Highly recommend. Uniworld has been our choice of Cruise Lines for our past 3 trips. Their ships are well appointed and comfortable but most of all their Crews make your experience exceptional. The Cabins are spacious and bright. We did not spend much time in ours because of the activities and excursions available. I cannot over stress the hospitality and service provided by the crew. they go out of their way to make you feel at home and special. Their excursions are well organized and we find that the guides were extremely Knowledgeable, Helpful and entertaining. The entertainment on board and in the local venues was awesome. On board dining was exceptional at every meal. Food selection and preparation were superb! Their ports of call and excursions were always interesting and provided tremendous opportunity to taste and experience the local culture. I can not finish without mentioning home impressed we were with the Pride the Captain and Crew had in their Vessel! Read Less

This was our 1st Uniworld cruise and we have been spoiled for any other line. From the time we boarded to the time we left in Bucharest we were treated like royalty. The offer of bicycles on day one set the tone, the staff anticipated everything we could want. The food was wonderful and the tours were very well done, the guides spoke English beautifully. We did not have the best weather, but the crew & staff did a wonderful job of making our trip the best!! My husband and I enjoyed the small, but very well done fitness room as well as the daily yoga/stretch classes. The nightly entertainment was very nice, local entertainment groups and the onboard musician was very good. The all inclusiveness made the trip seamless with no guessing. My massages & facial were excellent. We have already booked another trip for spring 2016...can not wait!! Read Less

Our river cruise started on July 29 in Budapest and ended August 7, 2015, in Prague. We were aboard Uniworld’s Princess for its Delightful Danube and Prague cruise. Accommodations: A majority of the rooms have the exact same square footage; the big difference is in cost and window sizes: Rooms in the hull of the boat are Category 4 and 5, and these rooms are the cheapest and have the least amount of window (you can almost see the ducks eyeball to eyeball). Category 2 and 3 have non-opening windows, about three-quarter length, and cost more than the Category 4 and 5 rooms, whereas Category 1 cabins have “French” balconies that permit you to slide open the windows but lack any sitting space outside the cabin itself. We originally booked a Category 5 room, but upgraded to Category 2 and were glad that we did because my wife fretted about our being “half under water” in the Category 4 and 5 rooms. If you are used to having a veranda room on the big ships, I would suggest that you book a Category 1 (suite), or Category 2 or 3 stateroom. No matter what size room you book, you will enjoy the very comfortable beds, the toiletries, and the other amenities. No room service for food or beverages, however, but coffee is close by. The room we had was very clean and the maids did a commendable job. Food: Plenty of everything you could want for breakfast and lunch, and dinner entrees that had excellent presentations and tastes. Fruit and other snacks were abundant throughout the day, and the drinks came as fast as you could order them. (Uniworld’s policy of one price that covers most excursions, food, beverages, and tips is a real plus, unlike the ocean liners’ policies that nickel and dime you to frustration.) Service: Responsive and professional. The employees seem to enjoy their jobs and were good at them. The captain of our ship, however, seemed somewhat “stiff” and not an engaging conversationalist; perhaps he was very focused on reaching our destinations before the Danube was closed to river traffic because of low water—which occurred the week after our cruise. Entertainment: Excellent brass “oompah” band and keyboard artists. The get togethers with friends for a night of dancing and drinking were a highlight of our trip. I guess that the smaller passenger numbers, no assigned restaurant seating, and fewer options for entertainment kind of forces you to meet others and form friendships quicker than you would on an ocean liner. Excursions: Very well selected as offerings by Uniworld, and the tour guides were excellent: they were knowledgeable, accurate, spoke clearly, answered questions directly, and did not sugar-coat the dark history of their countries’ pasts. (Our Nuremburg guide provided a stimulating lecture about the Nazis and interjected his own stories about growing up in post-Nazi Germany and how children are currently taught WWII history.) Daily Briefings: They were not brief, by any means, and the person who delivered them needs some presentation training. He more often than not addressed the floor in front of him, mumbled, alternated between what he had previously said and new information, which resulted in people falling off their chairs, dead asleep, or completely confused. Towns/Cities Visited: Wonderful to see and trek “like the locals” do. The many walks through these places were informative, beautiful to see, and fun because of our engagement with our cruise mates as well as the locals. Some folks complained about not having enough time to really explore each of the places we visited, but these river tours just give you a brief exposure to the highlights so that you can go back on your own for an in-depth exploration. Good selection of places and attractions. Bus Ride to Prague: Long—about 3.5 hours—but also a worthwhile passage through the countryside to see what life is like “on the ground” in the Czech Republic. The Hotel Imperial in Prague was excellent because of its central location, amenities, and professional service. Recommendation: We would give this tour a 5-out-of-5 star rating and recommend it for people who want a taste of the old and new worlds, who can walk ably, and who like to study the cultures and architectures from the Middle Ages to the present. My husband & I recently returned from the Delightful Danube river cruise aboard the River Princess- Uniworld. This was our first European River Cruise - all I have to say is that was undescribable! I know that doesn't help much, but it is hard to put into words how fantastic the crew, food, and ship was. Couldn't have asked for a nicer group of people to spend 10 days with. On our last night of entertainment, we were almost in tears saying goodbye to everyone. The food was excellent, (I personally loved the made to order Belgian waffles in the morning!) Buffet lunch was also good - many choices. Dinner was also excellent, the menu had enough choices to please everyone. And all desserts were scrumptious. The tours that we chose were done very professionally, all guides were very knowledgeable about their countries. We especially enjoyed a bike tour where 29 of us were dropped off on shore with 4 guides and bikes for all of us. We then rode for several kilometers (I think 25) to meet our ship at the next port! Even watched our ship go through a set of locks from a bridge overhead! Evening entertainment was great - one night the grand daughter of Maria Von trapp, another night a German "oompah" band as my husband calls them, and the last night a local singer/guitar player from Praque who was excellent. We got him to stay for at least 3 encores - he had everyone on their feet! The evening highlight was in Vienna where we had the option to go by bus for a private concert. That was amazing. We talked about that night for the whole trip. My only complaint would be that for 2 evening dinners a special meal was prepared on the upper deck. The problem was that only 20 people could sign up for each night, so a total of 40 people. Since there were approximately 120 of us on the ship, those of us who didn't make it on to the list weren't able to take part in this. They need to come up with a better way to make this accessible to more people. Not sure what the answer would be. Hopefully sometime in our lives my husband and I will be able to enjoy another one of these "once in a lifetime" trips - aboard Uniworld. Hats off to them! Thanks you for a most memorable vacation. We chose to do a river cruise for our 50th wedding anniversary. We had done a number of ocean cruises but never a river cruise. After having completed this river cruise we will never go back to an ocean cruise. There is no comparison. With a river cruise your view changes constantly. We embarked in Budapest and disembarked in Amsterdam. The river princess is one classy ship. The food and entertainment were exceptional. However what made it, was the crew. By the second day they knew us by our names, and were very attentive to our every little whim! Unfortunately after a week or so we had to transfer to another ship do to low water. The transfer was seamlessly, the bus ride through the country side was enjoyable. And we were at our next destination after a ride of an hour or so, in time for our on shore excursions. We then boarded our new ship, the river empress. The river empress was a let down after the River Princess. Although it had been renovated at the beginning of the year, it just didn't have the ambiance of the Princess. The staff for the most part were much less attentive, the food although good was not as exceptional as the Princess. However even with the disappointment with the Empress we will sail with Uniworld again in the near future.. Read Less
