Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on AmaVerde

This was our 8th river cruise however the only three were in France on Uniworld and because the other cruises involved small ships there isn’t a good comparison (the Viking Vietnam was outstanding). We chose this because we had never been in Bulgaria or Romania and like wine! Except for Hungary our earlier experiences were in Yugoslavia in the 70’s so nice to see what had changed. Other ...

Danube delights

We chose this cruise as we’d had such a wonderful Danube cruise on Crystal Mozart in 2019. Unfortunately this AMA waterways cruise was not quite in the same league, but as it included travel and transfers we decided to give it a try. We found the ship reasonably comfortable with very helpful staff. Included excursions were good , but many geared to the active, involving hikes and biking. We ...

Avalon Pulls a Fast One on its Customers

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Avalon Panorama

This was a Danube cruise, Budapest to Nuremburg. Due to low water on the river, the ship discharged passengers just beyond Regensburg, busing those who were departing from Nuremburg and to Prague for those who had signed up for it. At this, we considered ourselves fortunate, because we heard that some other cruise captains refused to go on past Vienna. Ours did go on, although it was ...

A Few Misconceptions

Review for a Europe - All Cruise on Avalon Panorama

The Danube cruise is going to be pretty much the same, whichever line you choose. We chose Avalon, and generally, the ship’s appointments and food were quite fine. But perhaps you have a few misconceptions as you make your decision on which river to choose, and this can help you. In our case, we chose the Danube because we had already been to some of the Rhine stops on past land tours. But we were ...

Wait until Tauck ms Treasures has been Updated

This was our first Tauck cruise. The staff, food, and service were outstanding. Unfortunately, the cabins were not. We were later told that other ships Tauck uses from the Scylla Line had been updated to enlarge the cabins. We were surprised at the lack of space in our cabin, especially for the premium price, compared to those on other river river cruises where we paid less. The French ...

A very difficult trip

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on AmaPrima

First ever river cruise, so based on reviews we chose AMA. The ship was very nice and checkin was very easy. We were surprised at age of clientele quite geriatric, we are in mid 60's but quite active. The cruise had some challenges we were delayed through no fault of AMA because of an accident which put us about 3 days behind on a 14 day cruise, we caught up about day 12. So for the first number ...

We went from Heathrow, there was some confusion at Budapest airport however that was soon resolved and we had a posh taxi to the boat. Firstly the good news, the boat was very clean and the maid service exceptional. The staff were excellent, a tribute to the enforced tipping system which adds perhaps £10 a day to your costs. Due I suspect to the cost, the average age was perhaps 70 and ...

Terrible upper category cabin on Tauck river cruise- Don't book it.

Travel agent and friends had recommended Tauck but I was very disappointed in our experience. We had booked same category 6 cabin ( 2nd highest) as our friends and it was a terrible cabin and the worst customer service ( NONE). We were in cabin 318 at rear of ship and friends were in 302 ( same category and price) but the comfort level was worlds apart. This Cabin and the one across from us had ...

Some Shortcomings

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on AmaPrima

I was referred to this site by Trip Advisor to write a review. On Trip Advisor I am known as "Beaune." I generally agree with the editor's extensive review of the AmaPrima which sailed up the Danube to Vilshofen. But I have two serious gripes to pass along. First, I paid over 10,000 dollars for a 7-day cruise. Compared to ocean cruises, such as Silversea or Oceana, that is a bit expensive. I spent ...

Disappointing Danube River Cruise on Viking Idun

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Idun

Great ports of call, however, not enough planned excursions or time in ports. The ship has to go thru 25 locks, so there is a lot of time sailing and just looking at the sights from the deck. The food was good, not great and the wine was poor, with no choice only white or red. There were only two nights of entertainment, first and last (the best) and so there was a lot of down time in the ship ...
