I wanted to see Budapest and Vienna but I ended up enjoying the smaller cities along the way. our ship, which was supposed to be a year old was swapped for a ship that was over 10 years old. We were stranded on shore two times because of problems with the ship. I did not know how exhausting the touring would be, especially in 90 degree heat.
Those days we were not allowed on the ship I might ...
Not quite what they sell. The upgrade to the full slider window for an extra $1500 (base for a solo fee was $6000) for 7 nights was pretty much worthless. For 5 nights we were parked 3 deep with other ships, so you could not keep your curtain open unless you wanted the other boat to see you.
One night we left at midnight... you could see the river edge then... but, we were asleep. The first ...
We just felt processed the whole time. Very little done to make the experience on board fun or special. There was basically no entertainment except a single pianist who occasionally acted as a sort of DJ for those wanting to dance. Choice of only one lounge with a bar after dinner or your cabin, that was it. We got one guest singer who was really bad and a single rock 'n roll singer for one hour. ...
What we wanted - cruising down the river with views from our balcony. What we got - bus trips and views of other ships docked cheek by jowl.
The Danube has been in low water state for MONTHS apparently and so each cruise line has restricted the number of ports of call and anchored for days in some, essentially just providing an hotel for the night and bus tours for the days.
We were ...
This was a Danube cruise, Budapest to Nuremburg. Due to low water on the river, the ship discharged passengers just beyond Regensburg, busing those who were departing from Nuremburg and to Prague for those who had signed up for it.
At this, we considered ourselves fortunate, because we heard that some other cruise captains refused to go on past Vienna. Ours did go on, although it was ...
I liked the idea of NOT having to move my stuff...bus tours are not my idea of relaxing...
Ship and staff were fabulous. Food plentiful, variety and quality. Wine was lovely....room was nice size, shower/bathroom quite lovely ....loved the panoramic windows, but views were of the boat docked next to us, or the wall. Only once did I have a day time sail to Passau Germany which was ...
We began our 15 day, Amsterdam to Budapest-cruise on 8/18/18 on the Avalon Visionary. Due to low water, we had to get off the boat and go to a hotel in Frankfurt fir two night. We then biarded the Avalon Visionary. We were told that in order to “catch a wave “we had to skip Nuremberg. We were okay with all this and Avalon did offer compensation in the way if extra excursions and some ...
Here is what I told my travel agent: The trip wasn’t the best we have done but there were some nice people we met on the boat and the stateroom was quite nice.
I am disappointed in Avalon. When we were late out of San Diego and missed the Philadelphia connection, after we were rescheduled I called the number in the Avalon booklet to report the new arrival information. The young lady took ...
We had travelled with Avalon previously in 2015 and spent a lot of time convincing my sister and her husband to join us for the Budapest to Amsterdam cruise. This was to be the trip of a lifetime for my sister. As you read on you will feel our disappointment with the trip but please read to the end of my comments.
On arrival in Budapest we met people who had travelled up from Amsterdam and ...
The Danube cruise is going to be pretty much the same, whichever line you choose. We chose Avalon, and generally, the ship’s appointments and food were quite fine. But perhaps you have a few misconceptions as you make your decision on which river to choose, and this can help you. In our case, we chose the Danube because we had already been to some of the Rhine stops on past land tours. But we were ...
