The entire crew was excellent -- efficient, helpful, and attentive to all needs. The Captain's Table tasting dinner was also excellent and beautifully presented. The food in general was great. But the overall plan of the trip and its cost was the issue. In each city, we had a local guide, and they varied wildly in quality from excellent to worthless. The trip was short and expensive for the time it covered, esp. when airfare was not included, and so I always felt rushed at most of the stops and without a good feel for the people and places. This was very much a trip that felt like "If this is Tuesday, this must be Vienna." I would recommend the Budapest to Prague trip to friends as the cities and countryside are beautiful and full of history. But I used AMA for reasons involving travel companions; I've been much more satisfied with two Grand Circle cruises I've gone on and will always use them from now on. Read Less

This was our first European river cruise, after having been on more than a dozen ocean cruises (predominantly HAL, some Royal Caribbean, and a Seabourn). We sailed Budapest to Vilshoven and were absolutely delighted with the service, atmosphere, food and wine. We opted for a cabin in the lowest deck, which was "cozy," but totally fine for our needs. Possible drawbacks: closer to the water line, only a porthole for window, and occasional vibration from the engines, and lack of elevator access. That all said, none of those were issues for us and we would seriously consider staying on that level again, for the cost savings. We found the food to be excellent - always plenty of options and all were well-prepared. Dinner in the "Chef's Table" dining room (no additional charge) was especially elegant. We appreciated that they accommodated diners who needed gluten free (GF) meals and that their menus and food signage were labeled with allergens. We were part of a group that was GF and the crew provided a "GF corner" of snacks in the lounge every day, as well as a section at breakfast and dinner - AND a dedicated toaster (hurrah!). I believe that this may have been a special accommodation for our group; a very classy touch. The wine pours at lunch and dinner were VERY generous and we were pleased with the quality of all the wines that were served. The excursions and guides were all very good; in some locations, there were options for more than one excursion in a day. Options were provided for different levels of fitness/mobility. The entertainment that was provided was great, although we missed some of the after-dinner shows in the lounge, opting to rest, instead. Unlike ocean cruising, there are no "sea days" that enable you to rest/recover from a busy day of sightseeing. The embarkation process was NOTHING compared with ocean cruise embarkation. We purposely went a little later, to avoid a long wait for embarkation. We were shocked when we arrived at the ship and there was absolutely no line. I think it might have taken a total of five minutes to check in. Disembarkation was also very smooth. The cruise director, Talida, was outstanding. Always cheerful and ready to assist, incredibly well-organized and willing to go the extra mile. We stayed in Budapest for a few nights prior to the cruise and went on to Prague after the cruise; we were independent travelers in both cities. It was nice to be able to travel to Prague with the ship's post-cruise excursion group. Although it was more expensive to do a river cruise (vs ocean cruise), it was so relaxing to know that so many amenities were included: wine/beer/sodas with lunch/dinner, Internet service (always a good connection in our cabin), almost all excursions, etc. We so enjoyed this experience, that we put down a deposit for a future sailing, which we'd NEVER done on any of our (many) ocean cruises. So we look forward to sailing with Ama again! Read Less

We had a perfect family trip with AMA Waterways on the AMA Certo. We traveled with my 3 teenage daughters ages 18,16 and 15. Two of the girls shared cabin 109, my oldest had cabin 111 to herself (both category D) and my husband and I treated ourselves to a cabin with a French balcony 226, category C. The cabins are lovely, well decorated and with room to store all your necessities. The bathrooms are small but make efficient use of the space and have luxurious touches, like a rain shower and beautiful tile work. River cruising does attract an older clientele, however there was another family with younger children on our trip. I DO recommend this company and this trip for families. The ship had plenty of bikes, excursions for the more active crowd and a lovely pool. There was a small evening activity every night, but we only participated one or two nights as we were generally exhausted and fell asleep quickly. My family loved the dining experience. They treated us like royalty, always asked “where are the girls ?” if we arrived without them. The food choices were all excellent. Portions sizes were perfect for having a little bit of everything. We did not go hungry and my 15 year old said that she gained 4 pounds on board. Our trip was interrupted by an accident on the river (a barge got stuck in low water), which had river traffic backed up for miles. We only made it a little beyond Passau, Germany instead of our final destination of Nuremberg; so we had to take long bus rides to experience 2 days of excursions which wasn’t the best, but no fault of the AMA. The first stop was Bratislava, a beautiful town, where we hiked to the castle and then explored a local fair and locally made ice cream. Vienna was lovely, but we took the optional Schonbrunn Palace tour in the afternoon so we had to rush back to the ship and didn’t have a lot of time in Vienna. The girls loved Durnstein. We took the Apricots and Sweets tasking excursion which was lovely and then took a leisurely stroll back to the ship. Then my husband and I biked through the Wachau Valley while the girls sat in the sun on the boat. It was our favorite day. We also did the optional excursion to Salzburg. We thought Salzburg was beautiful but actually liked Regensburg (the next day’s excursion where we did another tastings tour) better. The tour of Nuremberg was an issue because of the river back up. To experience the tour you had to take a 3 hour bus ride (only because the boat never made it all the way to Nuremberg). My husband and 2 of my daughters went and enjoyed it, but mostly because some of the crew treated them to some entertainment after the tour. The crew was wonderful, the food was great. It’s an awesome way to see some parts of Europe. Plan on being flexible, the company has no control over weather or the river or other boat traffic. Yes take this trip or any other that AMA Waterays offers and BRING YOUR CHILDREN ! Read Less

I can proudly say that I nominate this company, Amawaterways all my friends for future voyages. It was a pleasure to live the experience of sailing aboard the AmaPrima. Our third river cruise on Ama and all three have been really pleasant experiences. The first two were the Rhine and Seine; this time it was the Danube, a beautiful river indeed. We enjoyed stops in Brasislava, Vienna, the picture postcard Durnstein, beautiful Regensburg, and a full day of touring in Nuremberg. The staff is always professional, the food was very good with much to select from, and the excursions were well organized. Ama is an excellent company and delivers, in our experience so far, a consistently excellent product. That said, those who have not taken a river cruise will want to note that there are limited onboard activities, entertainment, and dining options. On this cruise, the onborad pianist serves as the DY, for example. They generally bring entertainers onboard a couple of nights during the week. The upside, however, is that you get a peaceful, hassle free experiences without the crowds found on traditional cruise ships. Read Less

We chose this cruise line on recommendation of our Travel Agent, did research and selected the Serena based on good reviews. We are so glad we did. The ship is beautiful, meals fantastic, well prepared and served by a wonderful waitstaff. John the tour guide/leader was very good and attentive. The entertainment offered on board dovetailed with the location we were in (string trio in Vienna, "Oktoberfest" in Germany). Wines served at lunch and dinner were regional as were food selections. The tour guides in each city or town were excellent. A special highlight for us was Alex in Passau Germany. He was originally from Hong Kong, parents moved to Germany to open a Chinese restaurant and his love of his home was infectious! The guides were all very knowledgeable and personable. We learned a lot! Also the various options every day were fantastic, hikes, walks, specialty food tours and always free time to shop and explore. A notable excursion is the all day to Salzburg. We highly recommend. It is a lovely town and worth the 2 hour bus ride!! Seeing places where the Sound of Music was filmed was a special treat. All in all we have nothing but good things to highlight. We highly recommend Melodies of the Danube aboard the Serena!! Read Less

We have been a lot of places, and on several cruises, but this was our first river cruise. AMA does it right! We were on the AMASerena for Melodies of the Danube. It was a wonderful experience, and all 3 of us hated for it to end. The food was out of this world - the best we have ever had, and the service was great. The rooms are a little small, of course, which we knew, and the wifi was terrible for some reason, but the overall experience was fantastic. We took a few excursions, which were all well organized, but often went off on our own. When we wanted to go on our own, the cruise director Szaba could not have been more helpful in telling us how to do what we planned, such as taking the train to Salzburg for the day from Linz. One of the best experiences was the Illuminations cruise around Budapest. We can't wait to do another AMA cruise! Even though we had been there for 2 days before the cruise and had been on an illuminations drive with our guide, this was special. I know Viking has the market on these cruises, but AMA was definitely a step above them from what e observed in seeing the other ships. They take such good care of their guests - can't do enough for you. We had a balcony, because I thought we wanted it, but we would probably opt for the French balcony next time to have a little more room in the cabin. Getting out of bed requires standing sideways because there is just no room. The small cabin wasn't bad except when we were packing, when we were just in each other's way. It may be worth getting the slightly larger cabin too. There is a happy hour every night, which was a nice touch. We enjoyed piano player Peter, who tolerated us wanting to sign karaoke at night with our new friends from Panama. While most of the passengers went to bed fairly early, we closed the lounge every night with Peter, singing and dancing. We had a blast! Read Less

Unbelievable staff with impeccable service and attention to detail from beginning to end. Could not have been better. All tour guides were local and very knowledgeable about their history. Dining was superb with great food choices and local wines. Everything was smooth and easy. Excursions were available for all levels of persons, from gentle walkers to hikers. Bikes were 7 speed cruisers and well maintained. So many choices of activities and free time, too. Entertainment was from locals and was very professional. Cruise manager was available to handle any questions and very personable. Safety was of utmost consern. I highly recommend AMA. We had 34 persons traveling and everyone was overwhelmed with this cruise. AMA met us at the airport and took care of us until we left for home after disembarking. Our cruise included a cocktail party before dinner each evening with free cocktails, as well as the usual beer and wine. Wine and beer were free at all meals. AM provided umbrellas when needed, walking sticks, and fold down cane for those that wanted them. We had a aim up bar with heated pool. Every day was explained in detail. If you chose to change or eliminate an excursion, it was allowed at any time. All excursions were included in the price. If you need laundry washed, you left it in a bag on your bed and it was returned clean and folded within 24 hours and pricing was very reasonable. Having never been on a river cruise, we relied on our travel agent's judgment to select both a company and an itinerary. She chose AmaWaterways "Melodies of the Danube" and we are glad she did. The company is a first class organization. The ship is newer, clean, beautifully appointed and has all the bells and whistles to make a 7 day cruise just perfect. The staff were always professional, polite, caring and interested in making every detail to our satisfaction. The common areas were comfortable. We noticed people enjoying the pool. Our favorite spot was under the tent on the upper deck where we spent hours enjoying the ever changing shore line. Food and cruising go hand and and the chef did not disappoint. While food was served throughout the day, it was never about quantity as is the case on most ships, it was quality that ruled here. Excellent fresh salads, an ever changing menu and the nightly chef's recommendations made every meal special. There were multiple dining options for each meal. Daily we were offered a light breakfast for the early and late risers and a full breakfast with omelet station. Lunch was always different. The dinners were top notch with offerings from salmon to beef. As to dressing for meals - most people dressed a bit nicer in the evening, however, not one man wore a jacket to dinner, favoring instead collar shirts or sweaters. Women wore slacks and tops and minimal jewelry. People looked nice, but certainly not dressed up. The Cruise Manager, Mariana, was in complete control of the options for shore excursions and special activities. She was excellent at her job! She held daily briefings to inform everyone of upcoming opportunities and was as flexible as possible when people wanted to make last minute changes to hikes and tours. Did I mention the ship has a small fleet of bicycles available right onboard?! This was our first river cruise. It won't be our last. And, for sure our next cruise with again be with AmaWaterways. A friend chose this cruise based on the ports. I could not have been happier with the ship, tours, food, and service. Everything was well taken care of. The food never felt mass produced as it often does on a big ship. It felt like each meal was made specially for me. Our waiters (Agus and Constantine) and bartender (Carmen) made us feel like we were their only guests. There were 6 in my group - they asked our names, remembered, & we were each greeted by name all week. They remembered food & drink preferences also of course making us feel cared for. Our cruise manager (Talida) made sure that all odds & ends were taken care of seemingly all across the ship & land with no seemingly no time when she might sleep! It worked wonderfully to stop at ports right on towns where we could just walk on & off the ship without worrying about buses etc.. Excursions were well planned & we had no wait time - it left when they said it would leave. No lining up, no waiting around to be called. It was all just right. I would definitely go again on a similar cruise & choose AmaWaterways. Read Less

This was the first river cruise for my husband and I. We chose this cruise line because it had received many great reviews and our travel agent strongly recommended them. We were not disappointed! We met the ship in Budapest in the early afternoon after almost twenty-four hours of travel. We were so excited and we were greeted with enthusiasm and kindness. Although we could not go to our rooms, there were sandwiches, drinks, cakes and cookies ready in the lounge. They also had a shuttle bus available for anyone who wanted to explore Budapest for the afternoon. The cruise director, John Riley, was also a wonderful and extremely knowledgeable person. Every port was an adventure and the staff tried to make it a pleasant experience for all the travelers. The Christmas markets were beautiful at night and you had time to really see all the vendors. The meals were amazing with a variety of choices, if you have any diet restrictions. You were never hungry! The room we had with the balcony was perfect. The cruise manager, Bali Kiss did an amazing job of welcoming us , making us feel important and providing us with briefings of excursions and information on the different towns covered on the trip. He was always smiling and approachable and I highly commend him on the execution of his duties & ensuring that everything runs smoothly. Zoran the hotel manager was just as courteous and well-informed.. The waiters were friendly and professional and our housekeeper quick & efficient . This was our first time on AmaWaterways, but our second river cruise. We did the Gems of Southeastern Europe which started in Budapest, Hungary, went through Croatia, Serbia, and Bulgaria, and ended in Bucharest, Romania. The ship was very nice, very well maintained and clean, with plenty of spots in the lounge to sit and relax. Our cabin was just enough room and laid out very well. The food was fantastic, although not reflective of the local regions we were visiting (we had that experience on another cruise line, they served food local to where we were cruising to). But, they did serve local wines from Romania, Bulgaria, and Hungary. The service was excellent, top notch, and even the cruise director, hotel manager, and other prominent folks were often visible and completely approachable. Our excursions were also amazing. Everything was extremely organized, the tours were jam-packed with things to see and do (we were out all day, every day), and the local tour guides were all amazing. They were very friendly, informative, had great English speaking skills, and were very patient with us. The only thing I wish I had was more free time in each town. We barely had a chance to buy souvenirs, much less relax at a café or just stroll around on our own. But, I'm one who wants to see as much as possible of a city, so that matters more to me. The itinerary change was quite unexpected and gave us cause for concern before we left, but I want to say that Ama handled it in the best way possible. A week before our sailing, we were told that a bridge in Serbia was being repaired, blocking all ships from getting up the Danube from Serbia to Hungary. This meant that we could not actually sail out of Budapest. Within one week, Ama rearranged our itinerary to stay overnight in Budapest in a 5-star hotel (instead of getting on the ship), complete with a wonderful local buffet dinner in the hotel's restaurant and a private sailing around Budapest that night. The next day, we took a bus to Serbia--which I actually thought was awesome because we got to stop at a gas station and buy fun local food, and get our passports stamped in person by Hungarian and Serbian border controls! Then we were treated to a wonderful local meal in Novi Sad, Serbia, complete with a local band playing, and a short tour of town. Sure, it was most of the day on the bus, but it didn't feel like it. There was a guide with us who was very informative and talked about both Hungarian and Serbian lifestyles, cultures, and histories. We still got to take a short walking tour of Novi Sad, but we missed going to the fortress because we had to still drive to Belgrade that night, where our ship was docked. Driving through Belgrade at night was pretty cool. The rest of our itinerary shifted up one day as a result--we missed out on going to a couple of Hungarian towns before going to Serbia, and missed out on a little half-day excursion to a town in Croatia. BUT, for the last day of the cruise, we spent the day in Costanta, Romania, on the Black Sea--an excursion that Ama had never done before. We had a wonderful, long tour of the town, went to museums, saw the Roman mosaic boardwalk, went into the cathedral, and even put our hands in the Black Sea!! I felt really privileged to be able to do this, and was extremely appreciative of the Cruise Director literally whipping up this new stop and excursion within one week's time! After returning home, we also received a letter from Ama giving us nearly $2,000 in credit towards a future cruise as reimbursement for the messed-up itinerary. Woah! I was just happy with this new itinerary, and was delighted that I got to go to a seaside town in Romania. The cruise credit was just the icing on the cake and shows how well Ama treats their customers. We will certainly return to Ama to use our credit on a future cruise! Read Less

I was looking for a trip that everything was taken care of and we found it with AmaStella. Top level of service, food and entertainment. Every crew member was so welcoming and fun. I had some health issues last year and was concerned about the shore excursions, but quickly discovered that there were three levels to choose from and I was able to take the regular pace. Slower pace was available and more active pace for those who wished a higher activity level. The ship was beautiful and the meals outstanding. I especially liked that seating was not assigned for meals. This gave us a chance to meet and learn about many of our fellow travelers (148 passengers was a great size). Our cabin was very comfortable with everything you could need. The attention to detail was amazing. We had an issue with printing our boarding pass for our returning connecting flight in Amsterdam and the Cruise Manager was very helpful. It seems something triggered a VISA requirement on line before we could get back to the States. Reka assured us that as we were US citizens, a VISA wasn't necessary. She arranged to have a guide stay with us at the airport in Munich until we were assured the matter was corrected. Needless, as it was our first trip to Europe, it was great to be looked after personally. We highly recommend AMA Waterways. Read Less

My husband had been wanting to try a river cruise for years, but I was worried it would cater to the retired set. Our group of 11 middle aged travelers was pleasantly surprised at the variety of ages aboard and thoroughly enjoyed our week of luxury. First of all, we loved having choices for our excursions each day from biking to hiking or taking a more relaxed tour by bus and walking. All the tour guides were local which added to the uniqueness of each port. The Ama Serena is gorgeous, and the staff is friendly and attentive. It was hard to keep track of our wine consumption as our glasses were continually refilled. Our group is well traveled and coming from San Francisco food is paramount. The quality, variety, and presentation of cuisine for each meal was exceptional. Lastly, our cruise manager, Nick Hartog, was fabulous. Nick is personable, accommodating and works tirelessly. We chose this particular cruise based on the dates we could travel easily. It was our first and it was fabulous. Embarkation was easy as can be. Our taxi was met by crew who took our luggage which magically appeared in our cabin. We traveled with my parents and we all wondered how our luggage got there... they checked off our names and we got on the ship and joined a cocktail party. The crew works nonstop and is always there to make your cruise the best it can be. The camaraderie amongst them is unmistakeable but not to the exclusion of the guests. You are quickly made to feel special and part of the AMA family. Our cruise director was Dejan Stancic who is very fun and while attending to many details is always smiling. He learns your name quickly and his announcements "Good morning my dear ladies and gentlemen" are both fun and informative. Sylvia, the hotel manager was responsible for most personnel it seemed and she was constantly checking on service and housekeeping in a firm, authoritative yet friendly manner. She's also a captain and it shows. Henk K was our captain and he too mingled from time to time as well. The bartenders and servers were so friendly, it felt like we were losing friends at the cruise end. These folks work 24/7 on back to back cruises and we never felt they were stressed or anything but friendly and kind. It's remarkable really. The cabins are laid out well with plenty of space for your belongings. They clean them daily and do turn down service, provide a daily planner and sometimes gifts! The tours were many and varied to match many wishes and the food was fantastic. It seemed as if there was some kind of meal or tea or snack available at all times. I'd go on another AMA cruise in a heartbeat. If I could figure out which one Dejan was on, I'd choose one of those. He's special. I'm not sure how he kept his mood up but he was always smiling and helpful while juggling many tours and groups. This is a great cruise line...looking forward to returning. Read Less

We chose AmaWaterways primarily because we felt they offered a mid to upscale experience and would be an excellent value. We were not disappointed and in fact in most areas the crew and staff far exceeded our expectations. First, the ship itself is impeccably maintained. Captain Henk Klos and his crew clearly had safety as their priority all the while being very gracious to all guests. The hospitality staff were extraordinary. The servers, housekeepers, chefs, bartenders and front desk staff were always helpful, informative, and friendly. They never failed to greet or acknowledge a passenger in the entire cruise. The food aboard ship was truly exceptional. Dinners were varied, themed to the locale, matched with local wines-which changed nightly, and delicious. The quality of the dining experiences greatly exceeded my expectations. Also, the wait staff were attentive and friendly (Our favorites-Alex in the dining room and Dada, our wine steward/bartender). We frankly did not avail ourselves of a lot of the onboard entertainment. We enjoyed local Hungarian dancers that came aboard just before we left Budapest and in Vienna we caught a bit of the classical music program, but we were commonly out on the decks enjoying the views. The shore excursions offer usually at least three choices, including a “gentle walkers” option. They are almost all at no additional cost. The local guides were good. But, unfortunately, the time in the various cities and towns just felt too rushed. I really wish we had another day in Vienna. Also Durnstein is a cute town but I would rather have spent more time at the Melk Abbey and these were a combined option. We did pay extra for a nighttime Mozart/Strauss concert in Vienna that was well worth the price. The Heuriger evening was included and a real joy, but again, a bit rushed. There is truly a delightful stop in Grein and the visit to the castle was surprisingly informative and the show featuring local dancers in the castle provided a wonderful memory. In summary, the service was impeccable, the food uniformly outstanding, and the experience unforgettable. We chose the 2 week cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam on Amawaterways due to the reviews and they had the best options of tours for us. What we didn't know was how wonderful the service would be, The staff knew our names and preferences by the 3rd day and we felt pampered the whole time. There were no issues, everything went extremely smoothly. All of the guided tours were on time, with excellent guides. I learned so much history and understood the culture of each country better because of the guides. The food was really very good and there was a lot of variety for each meal. The on board entertainment was good quality and there was a nice variety, from Rock and Roll to folk dance and even a beautiful classical male quartet. When we booked the cruise, the tour I was least interested in, was to Siegfried's Mechanical Musical Cabinet Museum but it was one of the best and most interesting tours we took. I loved the tours of The Residenz, and Melk Abbey. Our Cruise Director, Sebastien LeRoy was amazing. He was helpful, and arranged everything to perfection. He even got up to make sure that our taxi, that he arranged for us, was there and helped us with our luggage at 4:30 am to get us to the airport on our last day. I am in a service profession and I know the energy it takes to make people happy. Amawaterways does this to perfection. Thank you for a great trip to all of the staff on Amaprima. Petar, Vladimir, Hendru, Josep, Aurel and all the rest, you were fantastic Read Less

There are so many great things to say about Amawaterways AmaPrima, but the most important is the hospitality and service quality of the staff. Every single interaction with them was a pleasure -- waiters, housekeepers, the madly French cruise manager, chefs, sailors met in the hallways or on deck, and the seriously Dutch captain. The ship is bigger than you expect -- 38 feet wide and much longer than a football field -- it feels spacious. The decor is very luxurious, and the crew is surreptitiously scrubbing and polishing all the time. The 140-ish passengers can all fit into the lounge at once for meetings and entertainment, and can also all fit into the dining room in one seating. Our stateroom was 220 square feet, including a balcony, which was plenty. Rooms without a balcony have equivalent space inside. Not a bad seat in the house! I do recommend a balcony stateroom, however, because it was delightful to sit on the balcony with a cup of coffee (morning) or a glass of wine (evening) and watch Europe go by. Food -- spectacular! My wife and I had to cut back halfway through our cruise to ensure we would fit in our clothes at disembarkation! Dining is open-seating, and one of the great pleasures of the voyage was meeting new people over meals. Free wine and beer with meals, too (and at other times, very reasonable prices at the bar). Snacks available at odd times, but not the same "eating all the time" feeling one gets on a big ocean-going ship. Our voyage was Budapest to Amsterdam -- two luxurious, relaxing weeks. Shore excursions organized by Amawaterways every day. Most of these were included in the trip price, with a few optional ones (around 60 euros pp) that involved an hour bus ride (e.g. a day in Salzburg). Another (very fun) optional was a baroque music concert after dinner, in the former stock exchange hall in Vienna. There was entertainment every evening in the lounge -- most of these were local musicians who came on board, played a set for maybe an hour, and hopped off at the next lock. These folks were very fun, quite professional. Seriously, folks -- Amawaterways has all the elegance, comfort and luxury of an ocean-going cruise ship, shrunk down into a 140-passenger, 42-crewmember package. And, between "ports", you get to enjoy medieval towns, spectacular vineyards, hillsides and locks go by outside your hotel window. Read Less

We just returned from our cruise on the Danube from Budapest to Prague. I cannot say enough wonderful things about our time aboard the AmaViola! From the moment we boarded the ship, we knew we were in for a wonderful experience. From our cruise manager John, to the staff (special thanks to Bobby & Marina who helped make our dining experiences even more wonderful), the trip was a meticulously organized and lovely way to see the sights of the cities and towns along the Danube. Our stateroom was lovely and had more than adequate storage for our clothes, etc. The food was beautifully prepared and delicious - be prepared to have to go on a diet when you return!!! A lovely variety of excursions is offered so you can be as active or leisurely as you want. Although this was our first time on Ama Waterways, it will definitely not be our last. Read Less

The main disappointment on this first time riverboat was the service by waiters and wine sommeliers. This does not mean that on the AmaStella staff was not excellent and hard working, but I felt there were not enough personnel to serve us without being rushed or waiting for wine at dinner. It was not the experience expected for wine service since they only had to two serve 2 types of wine and beer. The ratio of personnel to guest on this boat is approximately 0.5 to 1. I inquired with Viking, and their ratio is it closer to 1.5 to 1. It is also more favorable to sail down stream instead of up stream. Boat noise interrupted sleep at least three nights, and it is important that you select a cabin away from the engine noise and vibrations. I would not recommend AMA Waterways. I think they are cutting corners to save money. Read Less

This cruise, "Melodies of the Danube", was chosen by our travel agent. Upon entering the AmaCerto, we were so impressed by the elegance of the foyer and the lounge. The cabin was well-appointed with adequate space for clothing storage. Even though this cabin was not a suite, we had two balconies. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom very adequate with a great shower, and the entire cabin was scrupulously maintained by the Amacerto housekeeping staff. The cruise manager, Nikola Grujin, was fantastic! Humorous and exceedingly helpful. Nikola was there for all of us in planning the trips to care of an injured passenger. Due to no fault of the Ship's crew, a passenger hurt her finger. All this is to say that Nikola accompanied the injured guest to Vienna hospital. Message to us: Ama Waterways staff will go the extra mile in the care of its passengers. Food & Drink: For all three meals, passengers can choose from the abundant buffet, or order from the menu. One of our friends ate vegetarian; a special elegant breakfast, lunch, and dinner was served to her. This was a wine-tasting cruise with Dr. Doug Garman, wine expert, that gave special lectures and wine tastings for all passengers. Touring & Entertainment: The guides were very well informed supplied by the local population. Choice of gentle to vigorous touring were offered. Opportunities for biking trips were for the younger folks. Since we are an elderly couple, we chose the more moderate excursions. Our favorite entertainment was a special concert of Mozart and Strauss at the beautiful Vienna Konzerthaus. We were entertained by Wiener Hofburg-Orchestra under the direction of Svetoslav Borisov; operatic solos and duets by soprano Ella Tyran and baritone, Michael Havlicek. Classical ballet pieces and Vienna folk dances were also included in the program. Every evening hours: beautiful music was provided by pianist, Gabor. A special onboard musical vocal duet of Vienna music was delightful. Even an Octoberfest beer celebration was provided by the local population. Disembarkation was professionally accomplished. All passengers were carefully delivered to the Munich airport. I cannot believe any other longship river cruise could offer a passenger more enjoyment. Don't miss a fabulous opportunity for a river cruise. Select Ama Waterways to be guaranteed fabulous experience. Read Less
