Everything about this cruise was fabulous from the start to the finish the crew couldn't do enough for you and made you feel special they all, always had a smile for you and nothing was too much trouble, the food was amazing and entertainment was first class. Every single person on this cruise give it 100% our cabin 237 was perfect for us and our cabin steward Yougesh always kept our cabin spotless made sure we had everything we needed. Pritish our waiter was very attentive as was our wine waitress Alla Ivanova, the entertainment crew were first class every show was brilliant thank you Mitch, Josh, Callum, Anna and Chrissie not forgetting the dancers who were all fabulous, next are the bar crew who certainly looked after us very well, a very special mention to Ramesh, Klayton and Nataly from the Colombus bar who gave us many happy hours and lots of laughs in the evenings, also Sanja Lato in the showroom. The excursions and scenery on this trip plus the above made it a holiday to remember forever. A big thank you to the Marco Polo crew and we look forward to travelling with you again. Read Less

Our 1st cruise, so have nothing to compare it with, but it was definitely a positive experience. Embarkation was easy and efficient, luggage was with us in less than an hour and our cabin was excellent. The food was great and very plentiful! We splashed out and enjoyed the “Chefs Table” one night, well worth it. We had a tour of the galley, which was a real eye opener, how they managed to cater for 800 passengers and 300+ crew in such a small space was beyond belief. It was an 8 course meal, and we expected the portions to be small, but we were so wrong! We could hardly move by the end of the meal. Crew were brilliant, very helpful at all times. Excellent excursions. We embarked at Bristol, and dis-embarkation was at Cardiff, the transfer by coach was easy and problem free. We would be very happy to cruise on this ship again. Read Less

My husband and I have been on several cruises with CMV and this was truly the worst holiday ever. I would not recommend this cruise at all. This was our only holiday of the year and quite frankly the cruise was terrible – full of disappointments. Not worth the money at all. The cruise destinations included the Azores, Caribbean, Cuba, Cayman Island, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Mexico. We sailed for 35 days and were only let ashore a measly 9 times - even then we were only given 5-6 hours on land. The main reason for this was because the ship refused to pay the docking fees and we had to disembark onto rocky tender boats which took us from the ship to the docks. My husband struggled to climb into the boats as he is a little unsteady on his feet. This is not an idea way to disembark for disabled passengers. Also the itinerary changed at least 3 times –the ship was meant to stop at the Cayman Islands but did not, we only spent 1 day in Cuba when we were promised 2 days and the ship was meant to stop at Nassau but stopped in the Bahamas instead. The Cruise excursions are also a complete rip – off especially the Tropicana show in Havana. We were promised the best tickets in the house so we paid £119 each but we were dismayed to find that we were given side seats with a very restricted view. The show itself was wonderful – what little we could see of it! During the course of the cruise we discovered that all passengers are expected to pay a gratuity fee, 70% of which is retained by the CMV and only 30% goes to the staff. We thought that this was appalling and that all of it should go to lower ranking but extremely hard working staff. Also, it was not made clear how much passengers were allowed to buy in terms of cigarettes from duty free. When we disembarked at Bristol, I witnessed several passengers having their tobacco confiscated. If you enjoy sailing then this cruise would be perfect for you. But if you actually want to explore the islands listed on the cruise itinerary, then I would avoid CMV cruises on the Marco Polo! I was happier getting off the ship than I was getting on! Read Less

Food was awful. Tasteless, and much like eating in a school cafeteria. Even the sitdown restaurant had the same food. Cabin was great, but we hardly slept. Don't know why as the beds were OK. Very old ship, and it's showing it's age, although the staff do keep it clean. Staff fantastic, but wouldn't go on this line ever again. Embarkation was a breeze, and getting off the ship at the end went quicker than we expected. Very organized. Did not participate in entertainment so can't comment on that. Shore excursions were a mixed bag, some good, some not worth the money. In future think we'd do our own thing going ashore. On questioning the staff, it appears that some of the ports must bid to have a cruise ship dock!!!!! Belfast was a disappointment. Titanic experience was not worth the money, and the city sights, were quite depressing. Sad. Read Less

Frail elderly people, think my wife was the youngest on board apart from the staff. I am 68 & my wife is 60 but we are both very fit & healthy.Think most of the customers were well over 75+.Emergency helicopter at sea, rough seas & elderly people do not mix. Food brilliant 5* well presented, cooked beautiful & most of all HOT!. Staff 10/10 could not fault them at all, staff as good as any of the 8 cruises we have been on. Ship far too small for us, well out dated, needs a complete revamp or sinking. Cabins are in need of gutting & bringing up to date.Beds too small, no dressing table for the ladies, shower jell & shampoo rubbish.Shows average, theatre not terraced correctly made it difficult to see the shows. No casino. Sun beds & chairs very uncomfortable. Would not go with Cruise & Maritime again much prefer larger more modern ships with lots more to do. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we liked the itinerary. Age group 60 - 90 years of age. Very elderly frail clientele - not a good combination with rough seas so we were greeted with 2 ambulances on the dockside at our first port stop. An emergency helicopter evacuation of a patient also took place. We were worried about the full evacuation process should an emergency arise with the numbers of frail elderly and people with walking difficulties aboard. Baltic deck (rear): very noisy due to engine noise and waves crashing. Ear plugs recommended ! Food: European. Queues outside restaurants before they opened - no reason for this ! Food varied in quality. Cabin; good size, plenty of hanging space, drawers etc. No fridge or kettle however. Good bathroom size but very noisy with waves crashing against the side of the ship. Entertainment; limited and based around the older age group. Knit & natter; bean bag throwing, quiz, bingo, make a frilly scarf etc. Decks often partially closed for maintenance. We did like the photographic lectures. Gym and activities: limited activities due to entertainment crew needing space to rehearse. Uncomfortable chairs on sun decks & the theatre had padded bench style seating Embarkation: Virtually a warehouse. Very rushed scanning process at Bristol - port staff shoving things through before you could unpack. Cleanliness: Crew to be congratulated on their thoroughness. Maintenance: appeared good. We reported leaking tap & sink and these were repaired. Crew: very friendly & helpful Excursions: good but could be expensive. Many were only half a day due to the elderly clientele. We preferred to go it alone in the main ports as we wanted to utilise the whole day in port rather than be taken back to the ship at lunchtime. Read Less

The cabin, serving and bar staff were very good. The cabin was good, but freezing for the first 7, yes 7 days. This was despite reporting it to be cold everyday, Apparently someone fictionally meassured the temperature at 24 ( I wish), so they didn't need to act. I stamped my feet and this was after they had increased the temperature twice, they came and measured it in my pressence at 19. The man then adjusted it there and then and fixed it. My grievance is they didn't solve the problem 3 days earlier because they decided to ignore me. On the last day I met another person that had the same experience and he had been ill in a freezing room for 14 days. He had been told his room was 24 too. On my birthday we booked the special menu in what I found out later was called the garage by the staff, because it was so cold. When I think back I don't know why we stayed because it was shivery cold. They assured us it would warm up. The starters were lovely, soup delicious, but then they came with a cold main course. We were being served by the maitre de, so if he didn't make sure it was good then there isn't much hope for the rest. My husband is gluten free. The restaurant staff were good and made sure he got toast etc, but they just don't do the stuff you can get on Fred and P&O. If you're gluten free you wont get scones, pizzas and the little extras that make a holiday. I wont be using Cruise Maritime again Read Less
