As I much prefer the smaller ships, this was a perfect fit. The Brilliance is in good shape overall. We were in a Grand Suite. Our room was clean and in wonderful condition. Our cabin steward, Luis, was attentive to all and any of our needs. The concierge, Amit, was very helpful in all facets especially with getting off the ship quickly at the ports of call and disembarkation. As for the food. Having been on many RCCI cruises, I feel the quality of the food has slipped considerably. While the service in the main dining rooms is superb, the food is below standard. The Windjammer is same old same old. The rest of the crew was awesome. Good entertainment, happy staff overall. The ports of call were great, however too much in a short period of time. A bit exhausting if you have never been to Europe and want to see as much as possible. Read Less

This cruise had good reviews but now I realize the reviews are from Royal Caribbean lifers. FYI if you have kids the ship attracts a majority of older people. There was only 1 main dining room aside from the buffet. I felt pressured to pay extra to eat at the specialty dining rooms because the salespeople were always standing at the entrance to the buffet. Cleaning was poor, I found false eyelashes on my bed when we checked in. They hide the vegetarian and Indian menus in the main dining room. You have to ask if there are any other menu options. Our server asked us to give them good reviews which made us uncomfortable. The chef and the cooks somehow made everything taste similar. On the bright side we didn't gain any weight. Our rooms smelled musty. The first night I could not sleep, there was a terrible noise possibly from the engine. The second night about 6 of us stood in the hallway talking about the noise. The ship sent someone to investigate and it got better. We were on level 3. Entertainment was good except for the jugglers which were silly and boring. Overall do not recommend. One of our excursions was cancelled and the staff at the excursions desk was very helpful. I also found the staff to be more into talking to each other than into helping us. The guys pushing the coffee cart kept power walking by us without a word. It took me 2 days to realise they had coffee and tea and I could ask them to stop by my table. Read Less

If you want to pay a lot for a low-cost rip-off cruise in a dated ship and very few activities - this is the ship for you. Six 1 liter bottles of water for 39 USD?? come on. We were on a family vacation (4 families with young kids) and booked a cruise via an agent (who was supposed to help find the right ship) on a home for the elderly cruise with cheap food, very little activities and dated design. If it was not a multi family trip I would have just disembarked with my family on the third day and fly back home. I would have never believed i am boarding a low cost rip-off cruise where if you want to have something eatable for dinner you must pay extra. We had several main complaints - Food - huge amount of low quality food, no proper salads, no health food, very very disappointing!! you have healthier food at McDonald's. Agent in Israel - not nice and not informative. would not help or give basic detail on the ship (like the type of electric sockets in the room, activities... we will definitely take the time to give them the worst review online once i am done with this survey to warn others). Up Sales - 6 bottles of water for 39 USD?? come on. we don't consume much sugar and do not drink fuzzy drinks, so only water which came at an insane cost. video arcade that charges 2 USD per game - no wonder it was empty the entire trip. The rooms were not clean - mainly under the beds, the railing of the balcony door, minibar in both rooms was not cooling. at that point we got tired of complaining. Pools - very small pools with one small pathetic water slide. no indoor kids pool for colder days. our neighborhood pool has more facilities and a private pool at home is bigger. Activities - no real activities for kids, no space for the kids to play next to the parents while the adults are having a break. in general, handling the kids on the cruise was a nightmare, we were lucky we brought our own games from home. Some good things - Service was very good especially from the dinner restaurant staff. the crew is well organised and managed. The experience with them was so bad, i prefer to spend my money somewhere else. SO SO VERY DISAPPOINTED!! Royal Caribbean may have got us tricked and got our money this time, but we will learn for the future and not trust this company again. Read Less

We choose this cruise because the dates coincided with when we needed to be in florence for a wedding. The cruise ended on a sunday and the wedding was the following Wednesday so it was an easy way to kill 2 birds with one stone. We felt it would be a Cliff note version of Italy with the cruise and then go to Florence for the wedding and more time to explore the Tuscan region. The service on the ship was good...both housekeeping and our waiters in the dining room were very good. However...i did not like that at the majority of the cruise, staff was always trying to upsell us to their other restaurants...a murder mystery tour etc. And I believe the food was much better with our last Royal Caribbean cruise...probably 10-12 years ago. The dining room food was just ok..) We booked one ship excursion to Monte carlo and the tour lady was very informative. However...one 4 some of the bus was late getting back to the bus (even after the tour guide preached and preached to be on time.). The tour lady kept waiting for them until finally one of our group asked her to quit penalizing the rest of us and to move on. which she reluctantly did. that was the only ship excursion we booked...the rest we booked through a private tour excursion company...way better for the price. Was so looking forward to cruising with royal again, so disappointed with the staff! From top to bottom of the employee release, on board as well as corporate. All issues fell on deaf ears!!! What a disappointment. Was treat always like the customer was at fault and needed to prove our case. The mold in the hallway and public places were outrageous. The whole staff looked and acted like "if we ever get thru this tour we will be done for the season"!!! The excursions were the main attraction for my booking this ship, (and blowing thousands of dollars!), to be once again disappointed. I realize they are 3rd party bookings but wish royal would have tried harder to live up to their "royal" name. All were just cookie cut itinerary!!! Heck most of the guides didn't care if you got back to the ship or not! Really fell short of what could have been an awesome trip. Read Less

Chose this cruise ship and line for the itinerary. We wanted to see Malta and this ship had the itinerary of other places we wanted to go. The stateroom with balcony was large enough, yet could have used more closet space. Shower left water on the floor no matter what we tried. The TV was a joke: selling RC services and repeated network shows on the few channels available for the entire cruise. Is there no satellite available? It was clean enough, but our room attendant wasn't as helpful as the rest of the crew staff. In port there was a foul smell on our balcony, so we couldn't use it much unless we were at sea. And it wasn't the time of year to do so.There seemed to be enough entertainment for the people on board, but much wasn't to our taste. We ended up watching guitarist Tim every night in the pub. But just because it wasn't always our cup of tea, there were lots of options. Food was good, but it was worth upgrading to the speciality restaurants a few nights: the steakhouse is outstanding, as was Christian's service. The buffet and dining room were good, not great. The bar staff was excellent, especially Marvin in the Schooner lounge. We enjoyed his excellent service and let him know that. The drink package was a worth while investment. We did several excursions, and they were well organized. The Malta excursion guide was a little too fast for the crowd: if you stopped for a photo you were left behind. Getting on the ship a guest threw up in line, and boarded without saying anything. On our first excursion the person in the next bench on the bus was clearly ill. By the end of the cruise I was suffering from a cold as was many people: the crew were trying their best to disinfect the ship but to no avail. In a close quartered area like a cruise ship, the guests have to take some responsibility to stay in cabin or cancel their trip or excursion if they are ill. Before continuing on the transatlantic crossing, those guests were required to leave for further disinfection procedures. The ship and crew tried to do what they could to protect those who weren't sick from those who were. The casino and art auctions were a good way to spend time on sea days, even though you spent extra money. They really shouldn't allow smoking in the casino, and I am a smoker. The hot tub was occupied by guests who got their space and stayed there for hours, not letting anyone else have a turn. Kind of gross really. The pool area was small. The night time disco had a lot of rude people attending, so we only went once. Since we couldn't enjoy the pool deck because of the time of year, sea days were a little long. The public rooms were very pleasant, although the elevator systems were insufficient for the amount of guests. We are young enough to take the stairs, many other guests weren't. This was definitely an older crowd of guests for the most part. One guest had an emergency and the ship had to turn back to Sicily to get him medical attention. The ship's captain did that exceptionally well, and didn't lose any of the time from the itinerary. Good on him and Royal Caribbean for that. In short we enjoyed our first cruise, none of the negatives would deter us from cruising again or not going on a RC cruise. The cruise line has no control of its passengers rudeness or poor decisions. The ship was very well decorated, we enjoyed our trip, and the staff were excellent. The food was OK, the drinks top shelf. We saw the best of Greece and Italy as well as Malta, so what else could we ask for from a vacation provider? Read Less

This was our 3rd Royal Caribbean cruise. The ship was nice, the service was great, the ports were great, the excursions were good, we were just disappointed with the food. We ate in the dining room the first 2 nights. The first night the pasta dish tasted like something that would be served in my grandmother's assisted living center. The second night no better and served lukewarm. So we ate at the buffet for the rest of the trip. And the food there was mediocre at best. Same food served every day. The sauerkraut was dried out and burned from sitting under warming lights. We were so disappointed. A few other negatives are that they don't provide a bathrobe unless you are above a certain level in the frequent cruising program. The shipboard activities that were "free" were pretty lame. And there were activities and restaurants that you had to pay extra for, but we chose not to. Again, the ports were great and the excursions good. So far we've sailed on RC, Norwegian, Celebrity and Holland America. Holland America remains our favorite, Celebrity our least favorite. RC and Norwegian tie for 2nd. Hope this helps! Read Less

We chose this cruise for the fantastic choice of ports. Mostly we booked our own excursions as we find Royal insanely overpriced. We did do the Rome excursion through royal, but it Wasn't a great experience for the cost. Excursions booked independently we're much more enjoyable and better planned. We found very little entertainment options of interest. At sea days were very disappointing. All activities, seemed to be just selling, or promoting your products. Even bingo was a $30 cost, which I found very excessive. You have a very beautiful ship, but very few events happening in a lot of the locations. Anything happening in the centrum was over crowded , with people standing everywhere, blocking the view of those few lucky enough to get seats. Why not move to some of the larger venues? On other cruise lines there were always so many events happening, that it was tough to decide which to do. Not on Brilliance, though. Although, for the most part, we found the food enjoyable, the lack of choice in restaurants, was a surprise. Only the Minstral or windjammer for full meals, unless you wanted to pay for the specialty restaurants. All in all, although a beautiful ship, with amazingly caring and professional staff, Royal Caribbean, probably won't be considered for future cruises. If I could offer suggestions to Royal, (which I'm sure wouldn't be of any interest to them), I would say: Make your excursion prices more reasonable and more people would book. Lower drink prices to a reasonable level, to sell more Make most entertainment more accessible and mostly free.( Most lounges sat empty , most evenings) Don't make your guests feel like your sole purpose is to separate them from as much money as possible. We were part of a 75-person group from our church, and everything went smoothly. We were booked on different flights, excursions, etc., and RCI did a great job handling this. Our ports of call and excursions were: Barcelona, Cannes (Monaco and Monte Carlo), La Spezia (Cinque Terre), Civitavecchia (Rome and the Vatican), Piraeus (Acropolis and New Acropolis Museum), Mykonos (on our own), Santorini (Akrotiri and Oia Village), and Valletta, Malta (Grand Malta Highlights). Our favorites were Monaco, Cinque Terre, and Malta. This cruise was October 28 to November 9, which was the last cruise of the season. Brilliance was next re-positioning to Tampa Bay. I think the ship was not fully booked because nothing was ever terribly packed. Very few kids on this cruise due to the time of year. The weather was mid-60s most days which made for great touring, but it was a little chilly and choppy on sea days. If you're not a fan of the heat and don't mind throwing on a jacket or ducking from a stray shower once in a while, this is a fabulous time of year to travel the Mediterranean. Day one we did our self-tour of the ship and went to the spa tour, which we've never done before. Brilliance is one of the few ships that still has a Thermal Suite. We decided to sign up for this and it was money well spent. The Thermal Suite has 5 heated thermal beds, a light steam room, a heavy steam room, and an aromatherapy room. They only sell 40 "memberships" for the cruise. Two days we went and all the thermal beds were being used, but most times we had the place to ourselves and maybe one or two other people. After a long day of touring and 15,000+ steps, relaxing in the Thermal Suite was welcome! Plus, the locker rooms at the spa have nicer showers than the state rooms, so we used those, too. In fact, we learned the locker rooms in the spa are available for anyone to use, and the men's and women's each have a sauna and steam room. I believe the hours are 10-10. If you don't purchase the unlimited drink package because you think you won't drink enough to make it worthwhile, you can purchase drink punch cards on board. There are specialty coffee, beer, and cocktail cards available. for example, the cocktail card was $96 for 10 drinks. Cocktails at the bar are $12 plus gratuity, so it's a pretty good deal. I would do this again before I would sign up for the unlimited drink package. Read Less

We like to take an Autumn holiday to get an extra bitof summer and this proved perfect. Brilliance continues to be an excellently fitted out ship. Great cabin (9230) and steward. Far better and well maintained public areas than on many more recent ships. Plenty to keep us occupied day and night with activities. Not one member of staff nor officer or crew was other than helpful and courtious. The Ports of call could not be bettered; all around the Med and Greece. Our agent provided an excellent overnight hotel in "H10 Marina" Barcelona. Dining somewhat let down the voyage. The Windjammer is excellent with wide variety but lacking the best of dishes which can only be got by using a Speciality Restaurant or by paying extra in the Main Dining Room. We have been on this ship before refurbishment and many of the cosy corners have been made over to these restaurants and Next Cruise shop. Good entertainment nightly with two refreshing production shows and many first rate concerts. Disembarkation was smooth only marred by the over one hour wait for our our taxi to the airport on a cold morning. One of our best itineraries in over twenty cruises and that was our reason for choosing this voyage. It was our only available cruise at this time of year. Read Less

We enjoyed our first cruise on this ship in 2016 and enjoyed it so much we booked to sail on it again. Embarkation in Barcelona a speedy and efficient process, so you can then board the ship. Once on board we went up to Windjammers for a buffet lunch, the down to the Minstrel Restaurant to sort out our table for dinner, again all very well organised process. We able to access our cabin by 14:00 and met Fatima our cabin attendant who told that our luggage will arrive a little later. We came back later to find Fatima had put our luggage in our cabin for us. She was so helpful and cheerful it made for an enjoyable experience. Went off for dinner at 20:30 where we met Ifran our waiter, and Satish our assistant waiter who again were so cheerful and helpful and suggestions on choices on the menu. Every night we dined there they were ready with a smile and this made the diner an event to look forward to. Unfortunately we had one bad experience which caused us and Ifran and Satish some upset . This was caused by a head waiter who had obviously been promoted above his capabilities and should be washing dishes. We dined in Giovanni's Restaurant one of the specialty restaurants, where we were immediately greeted by Antonio who had been our waiter on the last cruise. This made for a very pleasant dining experience. We decided to head in to Venice and thanks to Fatima we found the water taxi which was a great experience and as I am not the best on my feet they were so helpful to me getting on and off. One tip if you are going to eat don't consider the restaurants in St. Marks Square without checking the menu and prices. There are many small, good quality restaurants along the front where you can watch life go by. Read Less

My brother badly needed a vacation. He chose the cruise line and excellent itinerary. Concerns: Compared with their CELEBRITY Line ships (Reflection/Summit/Equinox), small things like no cabin toiletries (shampoo dispenser & mini soaps however); tracking use of pool towels with SeaPass ($25 if not logged in for a return), and limited hours on some of the food venues were disappointments with RCCI. Also it seemed as though the "perks" we enjoy on Celeb and Holland American did not exist here. Also service at the pools was more limited, with fewer assigned employees. --Even specialty restaurants had many same items as main dining room, and charged extra for lobster and other items above & beyond extra fees! Pluses: SERVICE FOR THE CABIN, BARS AND MINISTREL DINING ROOM was exceptional. Shawn and Arturo were memorable! THE HELIPORT was always available on our strolls (unlike other ships where as VIPs we got access for sail-away receptions on the heliports). The mini-movie theater is a nice discovery--better than the jumbotron theater screen for movies around the pool in the evenings. SPECIAL SOUPS AND STEWS in huge hollow bread bowls in the King and Crown Bar are a great find (as was the $5 beer special and 2 for 1 marguerite specials in Rita's section of the cafeteria made nice discoveries friends had not found until alerted. SUM: A good time; unusual entertainment and cruise director & assistant with limitless energy & enthusiasm. Read Less

We arrived in Barcelona the day before the cruise to explore the city first, but the city was on strike and everything, including transportation was closed. The next day, the city re-opened and we were able to take a brief tour on a "hop on/hop off" bus before we embarked on the cruise. This cruise was a great deal because we were able to take two children free (other than fees and tips) to the Mediterranean to see a part of the world ( Rome and Greek civilizations) they had studied in school. They were enthralled. Pisa and Athens had been on our bucket list for years. Because it was October, there were few youth on board, so group activities for them were limited. They loved the cinema and enjoyed the magic show. We all enjoyed the food and the attentiveness of our dining waiters. The ship was very clean and we were impressed with the availability of restrooms. We were on the 3rd deck with a view of the sea through a good-sized port-hole. The housekeeping crew was wonderful. The only drawback of a Mediterranean cruise is that the major cities (Pisa, Florence, Rome, Athens) are a long way from the ports, transportation costs a lot to reach them, and there is not enough time to visit the cities. Royal Caribbean Cruises are always enjoyable. Great staff, fun activities aboard ship, great excursions. Crew members are extremely friendly, helpful, kind, and fun to be around. Embarkation and disembarkation always go smoothly. Ports of call/ excursions are always fabulous! We enjoyed each shore excursion we took with the professional, knowledgeable tour guides, and did a few fun self-guided tours on our own. The cabin is comfortable, clean, and well maintained, with marvelously helpful room stewards. Dining is in the main dining room and Windjammer buffet are 4-star experiences, with excellent meal choices. The wait staff are fun, friendly, and very helpful . At the end of the cruise, you wish you could take them home with you! The activity director is well experienced, does a great job, and is an all-around super-great personality. So is the The entertainment director, who is very funny and informational. We chose this cruise for a big family holiday, there were 12 of us including my 82 year old Mum and my 6 year old niece. The ship is lovely, just the right size and has everything you need on board including a climbing wall, mini golf and 2 swimming pools plus child's pool with slide. The balcony bedroom that we were in was perfectly adequate and very similar to those on the Celebrity that we normally sail with but we forgot that there is Concierge class on Celebrity which provides you with toiletries and nibbles which were not given on Royal Caribbean (although we never want the nibbles to be honest). My sister had a room for 3 with a large window and had never cruised before, she was thinking that being on Deck 4 would be awful but she loved her room and will definitely cruise again. The staff as usual were very good, happy and helpful at all times. Food mostly good all the time and excellent service. We had a free drinks package included which is so good when you don't have to buy a round for 12!! We had a flood in our room which everyone kept apologising for but these things happen and they dried the room while we were off the ship with a large blower - they have since offered us a discount on a future cruise which is lovely and we will probably take them up on the offer. There was quite a lot of entertainment on board but at times there suddenly seemed like nothing going on after 10.30 but most nights there was something. A few things upset us. The first was the shore excursion to Rome. We booked the fast train but were kept waiting 40 minutes standing on the station platform and then another 40 minutes on the train (when the rep. went missing) so we got there late and even though the pick up was at 5 instead of 4 we still did not have the amount of time promised - if my Mum had decided to come there is no way she would have been able to stand that long - go on the coach instead!! A visit to Santorini was spoiled as there were 2 ships in and we were not warned that they would be leaving at almost identical times and so when we had finished a birthday lunch there was a queue of approximately 1000 people for the cable car - we had to walk down the very slippery donkey pooed 598 steps with an elderly Mum and a 6 year old child. The donkeys are uncontrollable so people on them were shouting - get out the way - all the way down - it was extremely nerve racking!! The other thing that happened was that we are a family (the older ones) who like to do the quizzes and there was a general trivia one in the Schooner bar every day at 5. If we were on the ship we usually got there and took part but on the last day (a sailing day) the quiz was about the Golden Girls!!! This is an American sit-com from the 60's so all us English people did not bother to go and it is a shame that the Entertainment staff thought it would be a good idea to please the very few Americans that were on board particularly on the last night of the Cruise. It was a Family Excursion including 14 couples, we had an amazing time. Our CABIN Man Brian (7604) was on top of everything, our room was a relaxing haven to return to every day after he'd been through! Sweet, Polite, ALWAYS greeted us with a smile and a good morning! In the DINING ROOM, the team of Prakash and Nitin were 2nd to none! Anticipating our every wish, and really, we liked them so much, we would have been happy for them to join us! Seriously, they made dinner a great event and something to really look forward to! CASINO staff were, (for the most part) very friendly and accommodating; when you're losing money, in my mind, there's only one thing that makes it bearable, that's having a smiling friendly face keeping your hopes up! So keep smiling dealers! One thing I found annoying, was that when excursions like the hop on hop off bus were purchased on the ship (usually around 50 euro) it always turned out to be a fail, because others on our bus had paid as little as 10 euro for the same trip. Food was great! Windjammer was great though very crowded! Will definately sail Royal Caribbean again! Read Less

I chose this cruise (Brilliance of the Seas) because of the Itinerary and dates. I've done 8 cruises with Royal Caribbean and I was disappointed to see this ship was lacking good maintenance, general cleanness, the shows were old and bored. For the first time in my life, I experienced a cruise in which a value added tax between 18% and 21% was added to all my purchases, as well as a 10% of Service Charge in all my consumes. One night I bought a bottle of Prosecco in one of the bars (Vintages) to take it to my room, nevertheless a 10% of Service Charge was added to my purchase plus the tax, even though the waiter just took out the bottle of a fridge, that was the service he did. The reason they gave for the Value Added Tax was because we were never in International Waters, but as soon as we touch land, the cruise shops were closed as well as the casino, and that is inconsistent. If you take that into consideration, it increases your budget in about 30% and that is a lot of money. Also, we were making almost the same itinerary as the Jewel of the Seas and I noticed they had more personnel at the Ports to help people to get back on board. Also, we were making almost the same itinerary as the Jewel of the Seas and I noticed they had more personnel at the Ports to help people to get back on board. We had a very nice experience at the Crown Grill Restaurant, food was amazing and service too. We also had dinner at Izumi's which suprisingly was not a good experience. The place is too small, food was not good and not well prepared. I've been to the Izumi Restaurant on the Oasis and the Allure, and it was quite different. Staff was always polite and willing to help you every time. Entertainment was kind of old style, I did not enjoy it too much. Read Less

Good length of cruise, variety of ports and good amount of sea days. Service in most areas was slow, sometimes surly and the worst we have experienced on all our cruises. We had hoped to go on the new ship next year but we have both been put off by the lack of service. When we did get service it came across as just 'tip gathering' and ingenuine. Certainly friendliness, personableness and humour was missing....let alone trying to actually get a drink or order taken. Music in main dining room was excessively loud on most of the nights we ate there. And the usual complaint...no loungers available by pool - our main activity on board: to enjoy the pool facilities but....once again all loungers saved by non existent guests and staff didn't care. Decor definitely needs upgrading / maintenance / modernising! The stand out service person was the barman at the vintage bar - extremely knowledgeable, personable and excellent service! Read Less

I have never been so angry and frustrated in a cruise like this last time. They charged us up to 21% of taxes plus service charges in all our purchases and beverage packages, photo and spa services arguing that our ITINERARY never touched international waters, so we were only cruising in the European Union, so that was the reason they charged us this outrageous taxes. For example. I bought a beverage package of 10 drinks with a value of 75 usd and I ended paying 96 usd. I bought 2 photos, one with a 50% off and the final price was 30 usd and they charged me 21% tax, arguing that the side of the coast we were cruising was the most expensive for taxes. Guest services explanation was always short and confusing. There was NO DUTY FREE even on cruise days due to the same reason so a $10 usd item end up costing $12.50. This is the first time it has happen to me and I WILL NEVER CRUISE with Royal Caribbean again, they should had informed me or my agency of this taxes plus services charges plus no duty free before paying the cruise. Crew was regular except for our waiters in the main room that where outstanding. We booked a balcony and the glass of the balcony was so dirty that we couldn´t sit to enjoy the views, only standing up. Cabin was TINY. Formal dinners never included Lobster, you had to pay an extra fee to eat lobster. The IZUMI japanese restaurant was a disaster, horrible food, tiny restaurant, bad service. Night shows are out dated and so bad we took off at minute 10 from a couple of them. No sitting chairs in bars, crowded Centrum offered only 20-30 chairs to sit. Scooners bar music is awful and the wine bar, only served wines so you cannot order a cocktail, you had to go yourself to another bar to bring a beverage and si down there if someone in your party was having wine. Bar tenders at bars where not really friendly, only doing their job. Food was average. I have travelled many times in cruises, even in Royal Caribbean and it had never been so bad as this last time. NO customer service yet and I have already placed 2 complaints, so I guess they are not interested in solving real problems. Read Less

We really enjoyed our first RCCI cruise. Loved the solarium except that the tiles are dangerously slippery. They have signs saying belongings on beds not used after 30 minutes can be collected at the towel point, but never did any one go and actually do this. Having said that, we only waited probably an hour max to get a bed. Found that the outside pool was too cold to use which was very disappointing. Initially I disliked the process of having to book towels in and out but actually it's a great system, because at least when people do leave, they take their towels with them. We had a balcony cabin which was clean and in good condition. I thought the shower room was great, having had a split bathroom with a shower over the bath on other cruise lines which I did not like so much. The toilet system is extremely sensitive. Why do they not have outlets next to the bed? Who doesn't use their phone as an alarm these days, our itinerary was port heavy so we had several mornings where I had to set my alarm then leap across the cabin when it went off. We had an issue with the safe, would lock it and leave the room, yet when we came back it would be unlocked. Maintenance came twice and could find no issue but it still did it. Our stateroom host was brilliant. I found the food very average. I didn't go hungry by any means, but I was not blown away by the food. The waiters and bar staff were superb. We didn't see much entertainment, we watched the movies outside by the pool, didn't enjoy the afternoon singing by the outside pool, totally unnecessary. I also thought that smoking being allowed in the casino was disgusting. There's very much an upselling ethos aboard. Everytime we left the ship there would be people handing you leaflets and wanting you to buy when you got back on and every sea day there would be tables up selling stuff. Felt a bit like the looky looky sellers you have to avoid on the beaches. I did an RCCI excursion at every port, and on the whole they were very good. I would definitely book RCCI again but will also be looking around at other lines. Read Less

A med cruise has been on our bucket lists since we studied Greece many, many years ago. (Way before Brad Pitt and Troy!) This cruise was everything we asked for. The ship was wonderful, the staff attentive and gracious, the food generous, wholesome and delicious (and we avoided the speciality restaurants). The weather and ports were exactly as advertised and we got what we had imagined. That can be dough to do but Royal came through for us. Embarkation was a snap and going from port to port was seamless. Security was always present and we never felt unsafe. The locals were welcoming and eager for our business and dollars. That was a good thing. There was ONE negative. THE VOLUME WAS MUCH TOO LOUD IN ALMOST EVERY COMMON AREA. IN MY NEXT CRUISE SEARCH I WILL LOOK FOR A SHIP WITH PROMISED QUIET AREAS. SOMETIMES YOU WANT TO READ, NAP, DO HANDICRAFTS OR RELAX IN quiet. Isn't it nice to not have someone shouting at you because the volume is turned up to 10? Read Less

My husband and I took my Mom on this cruise for her retirement and my aunt came along too. We figured we might as well see as much as possible since she might not go to Europe again and this gave us great options and 5 countries. We got the inside small cabins since we were only in them to sleep and shower. They worked out perfectly. The Ship and it's staff were great!!! It was clean and well maintained. If you had any issues with anything they took care of it immediately. We mainly ate in the main dining room for dinner and the Windjammer for breakfast and both were Great!! We enjoyed most of the entertainment, some just weren't our thing, but the ones we saw were well done and very engaging. Due to my mom's and aunt's disabilities we did not go on the excursions through the ship as most of them required excessive walking. Instead we rented a car and driver for the Pisa/Florence, Rome and Athens stops and all of them were wonderful with great drivers who spoke english and were very willing to go the extra mile for our situation! We stayed a few extra days in Barcellona and loved every minute of it! We absolutely Loved our time on the Brilliance and would do another cruise with them in a heartbeat!!! Read Less

This is the first time for me as a solo traveller, and this, was the best cruising experience I have had, all staff very friendly, food was great as was all the services I received. Great variety of food, drinks and entertainment. I would recommend dining room for dinner and windjammer for breakfast and lunch. I think that if you could not find food that suited your tastes, you must have a diet issue... drink packages are available and I suggest you get one, no hidden expenses as it is all paid for prior to your holiday. Suites/cabin always serviced and clean and are of decent size, not that you stay in there for long. Entertainment great, as were the choice of shore excursions. Ships cleanliness was of a high standard on all areas of the ship. If you like cruising, I highly recommend Brilliance of the Seas. Thank you brilliance of the seas for giving me a great relaxing holiday experience Read Less

We have never traveled to Europe and this trip gave us a taste and f so many different countries and cultures, one country at a time. Never did I feel I wasn't safe. It seems that they have cut back the number of staff members. The main dining room waiter has far too many tables. The casino works with a skeleton staff on sea days. Very few people attending to drink needs at the pool. We met some very wonderful people and hope to be forever friends. We got left behind on our tour in Malta. Tour guide didn't even mention to the group that he left three couples behind. Only got half our tour. The shows were pretty good. We loved the juggler, the Beatle Maniacs and the magician. Mercedes, the cruise director, was very friendly and funny. I wish we could have seen our whole tour in Malta. Read Less

I don't like to drag reviews out so I will try and keep it short. - I've done a number of cruises of RCCL - This ship has been my favourite, while slightly older it's easy to get around, has everything you need and you don't have to walk miles to get anywhere. - 8600 is a horrible cabin - Balcony is on an acute angle and 2 people cannot sit out. We ensured to complain as this was sold to us by NextCruise and we were not aware. - Air condition in the cabin was super strong, got sick - asked housekeeping to reduce it, they did what they could but it can't be turned off (understandable) - All entertainment was fantastic except the ventriloquist - he was atrocious - Service was the best I've ever experienced - Schooner Bar staff were amazing - All ports were fantastic - try to book privately unless you have on board credit especially in malta (get a hop on hop off bus) - The only thing I didn't like about the ship is that there is only 1 main pool (the other is a kids pool and the other is an adults solarium which is an oven.
