Very well run from embarkation to disembark experience. Check in was a breeze, no crowds. Someone took my luggage immediately and since I was early went to the World Cafe for lunch. Lots of servers and staff checking on you. My room was scheduled to be ready at 2pm but an announcement at 1:30pm said all rooms were ready! Room was fine, second level of stateroom. Only issue was not enough closet/drawers. Next level up does. have more drawers. State room attendant Mohammed Ali was great, very attentive and personable. Room was served 2 x day. He was a highlight for me. Always greeted you by name and cheerful. Soda and snacks replenished 1X a day. Was asked what type of soda we liked and it was quickly replaced to our preference. Plenty of room for wine or beer if you purchase some and want it chilled. Bath has a drawer for each guest and several shelves. Floor is heated:) Large shower with small bench and groove fixtures. Great water pressure. retractable clothes line to hang wet swimsuits. Mirror doesn't fog. Beds are OK not the most comfortable. Plenty of room underneath to store suitcases. Good size balcony with two chairs and a table large enough to eat off. While in room coffee make is nice, with 24 hour room service not needed. The design and decor is similar to the river longships, cheery and sleek. Really beautifully appointed and not garish like other cruise lines with bright colors all over. The atrium is 3 level with ample seating. The main floor has guest services, a bar, two restaurants. Bar prices are very favorable, $8 USD for a premium drink. Wine was $5 or $6 at off meal hours ( included with lunch and dinner). Little bar snack plates with savory pastries or nuts and wasabi peas at the bars. Main floor bar has cookies all day, pastries and open faced sandwiches during the day. Explorers bar at the bow of the ship on 7th floor has lots of large windows, comfortable seating. Mamsen's is also located here, open in early am then for snacks off and on. Custom Norwegian waffles are great. World Cafe is on the back of the 7th floor, excellent buffet style with wait service. Kitchen is in the middle of the area with buffet lines on either side. Food was always fresh and a variety. Pizza, main dishes, salad bar, sushi, deserts, gelato. Main dining room is gracious and changing menu. This is slower pace of service for all meals. 3 servers assigned to each table. Attentive. Manfredi's specialty was good, we could only get in once. Chef's Table was Ok, not a favorite. Fussy with wine pairings for each course. Set menu depending on what night you go. Pool bar and grill - excellent grill to order, fresh French fires and onion rings, burgers, fish and hot dogs plus a small salad bar. One night they had a Fish n Chips night, was really great with crispy fish and chips and all the fixings. Special brunch on the last sea day took up whole middle pool area, pool grill and Wintergarden area. Very elaborate and delicious. Grilled lobster and shrimp, steaks, pasta cooked in front of you, fruit, cheese table, bread table, dessert offerings ( they were cartelizing the tops of creme brûlée in front of you) Mimosas and Bloody Marys. Well staffed and tasty. Salt water pool at back of the boat is heated with a hot tub above. Lots of towels and a shower at either side of back of cafe. Spa area therapy pool was really great. Nice facilities. Gym has towels, water and enough equipment for the amount of users. Gift shop are nicely curated, no tacky offerings. Dale of Norway sweaters, Helly Hansen jackets, and some small sundries. Jewelry shop is pretty expensive but gorgeous stuff. Now for the staff - really attentive. The Senior officers and Captain are VERY visible and always around. I was impressed at the special meals that the General Manager, Chef and beverage managers were out and about not sitting in an office. Officers like Housekeeping Manager out and visible. Servers try hard and it shows. Attentive and if there is a lapse in service because they are busy they move quickly to rectify. All the shore excursions were well organized and the few times the tenders were used very efficient and constantly running so you don't have to wait. In several ports there were shuttles to and from town, free of charge if you wanted to spend more time to shop or have a meal. Busses were clean, good drivers and tour guides. Port Talks are on the TV in your room as well as the Daily schedule and restaurant menus and opening times. It never seemed crowded at all even though it was a full ship. I am very happy with experience. Read Less

The cruise was FANTASTIC. Best cruise of our 17 cruises to date. The scenery was SPECTACULAR along the Norwegian Fjords. Visiting the northernmost point of Europe at 71 degrees north was a thrill. Visiting Scotland and London was equally as exciting. The Viking Sun is a VERY well managed ship. the crew was VERY friendly and professional. The ship was spotlessly clean and the food was well above our Viking expectations. The itinerary kept us constantly in awe of the beauty of the Norway coast and the British Isles. During the cruise we took 7 of our 9 tours as the included tours and felt like we saw everything and had wonderful experiences with very knowledgeable and friendly guides. Our two special tours were above and beyond for cities we have been to before (Edinburgh and London). But the regular tours were above expectations. While the first look at cost of traveling Viking appears to be higher than other cruise lines, you must take into account that you get (at no extra charge): and include tour in each port, Viking Air transport to/from airport, wine/beer with meals, specialty restaurants, soft drinks and cookies between meals, mini-bar snacks in our room, 4pm high tea, the spa, and lectures on the cultures and areas we were visiting and this was all with 5-star service and professionalism. Basically, it included EVERYTHING. Read Less

We did mostly eat at the World Cafe (amazing sushi and crab legs), we did also enjoy Manfrettis and the Restaurant a few times. We also did use room service. The food was wonderful. No complaints. I cannot eat gluten and I was completely taken care of. I felt safe and appreciated the extra care they went to. Our room was a delight. The bed was comfy and for us we felt spoiled with having the room cleaned twice a day. We were very glad that we chose to do a lot of our excursions with other companies. There were far fewer people and it cost less. Best example: Use All Tours in St. Petersberg. They were amazing. We also booked our own Rodne Tour for Pulpit Rock at less cost for the exact same trip. Because there were so many ports, in the end it was just a bit exhausting. If we do a cruise again, it would be one with fewer places to visit. We found every single person who worked at Viking to be friendly, helpful, and kind. If, like us, you do enjoy quality spirits, I strongly suggest purchasing a few bottles at the Stockholm Airport Duty free store. It was less expensive than at home and far cheaper than any other place we stopped. Read Less

We had taken a "Baltic cruise" in 2008 (on Princess cruise line) but wanted an opportunity to enjoy Norway prior to repeating a visit to the northern capitals. We are not disappointed at all, partly due to the smaller size of the boat (900), but also we did the pre-tour in Norway. We had the opportunity to revisit Oslo and particularly enjoyed the Vigelandparken. We then boarded a train to cross Norway to Bergen for a further 2 days. Also we had an opportunity to enjoy fjords, and other Norwegian ports prior to heading for the Baltic. The weather was excellent, with calm seas, warm temperatures and sunny days. The included short excursions were excellent. And the Viking hospitality on board was amazing as usual. The food was exceptional with highlights of reindeer, and tuna. We met with the chef who was Canadian and clearly thoughtful about portions size, and low-fat/sugar diets. We asked for low-fat yoghurt and it was delivered at the next port! This was our first trip on the Ocean cruise liner, and while excellent for certain destinations like this cruise, we still like the river cruises for most of our travels. We have enjoyed them previously with Viking in Egypt, Amsterdam to Budapest, and the Duore River. All highly recommended. Read Less

All values are excellent combined into very high rate of “VALUELITY”. Good shore excursions included in each of the port plus some free time for self exploration. We do not require ourself much regarding the cabin, but it was roomier than we need since we spent most of the time in and about. Food was unbelievable, especially at the specialty restaurants, and most surprisingly was from the GRILL. The experience talks onboard were somewhat not in our interests as the topics were not current. The entertainments were good and suitable to the level of audience and age. We had turned in several suggestions regarding more visual (such as videos) for us to compare the OPTIONAL excursions, about more channels choice on television (such as US news and sport channels) as well as the option for close-caption. We also suggested the use of phone notification to remind us the times for excursions and for entertainment shows. Read Less

We booked this cruise because of the itinerary and my wife's experience with Viking river cruises. Both the destinations and the hospitality were outstanding! The tour guides with real historical chops and the resident historians were stars. The food was on par with a legend of Valhalla (see what I did there?) We loved creativity of the Chef's Table, and were surprised it wasn't more packed. We were also pleasantly surprised by the excellent musical talent of the entertainment; they were professional and I would not be surprised to see them in first class musical theater productions or commercially successful in selling recordings. My only disappointment was the unavailability of spots on some shore excursions. In particular, we were unable to get in the Alhambra tour, and that was one of the top three reasons we picked this cruise. Bottom line, we loved it so much that we signed up (on the boat) for another ocean cruise in the eastern Mediterranean in 2020, and we are trying to get our extended family members interested. We chose Viking Ocean because of excellent experiences with Viking River Cruises, of which we have been on four in Europe. We were not disappointed. Before I write the review for this cruise, a word about the ocean: Traveling the North Sea and Bay of Biscay is a completely different animal from cruising the Caribbean, where most “past-cruisers” have gone. Here you really are “at sea,” with all that entails: waves and troughs that can easily be 20 to 30 feet high, storms, and other nasty weather. As a Navy veteran I absolutely loved the return to the open sea, but many on board seemed quite nonplussed that they weren’t on the glassy surfaces they had previously experienced. Do your homework. Travel to and from: Viking offers deals on air transportation. If you can, it is much easier to package your entire trip with them, including insurance (which we found to be quite reasonable). Once you land at your embarkation destination, worries go away as Viking takes care of everything. Once your trip is over and you return to an airport, Viking people go with you and make sure you have found your flight and gate. I find that quite impressive. They could, but do not, abandon you after you leave the ship. Regarding the Viking Sun: The ship was immaculate, as all Viking ships (ocean) and boats (rivers) are. The amenities were impeccable, from the four or five places to dine to the public spaces where, seemingly, every comfort was anticipated. There was even a jigsaw puzzle table. The crew was also wonderful. A mandatory tip is assessed to each passenger but we additionally tipped our cabin cleaning duo and a particularly fun waiter. We asked for his table every evening. There was not a single crew member who was less than helpful and accommodating. The size of the ship is perfect. Slightly less than 1,000 passengers mean relatively quick off-and-on. Personal service is possible with a ship that size, and the ports you visit aren’t inundated with your fellow shipmates (especially in off-season, which is when we travelled). Remember, though, that a somewhat smaller ship may be more difficult for passengers in rough seas. Dining was also very good. The portions are smaller than we are used to but we certainly weren't hungry after eating. There is a local menu, a chef's specialty menu, and a "standard" menu for those of more traditional taste. As mentioned above, the table service was as good as it could be. Shore excursions: Because I have a limited ability to walk, my wife and I had limited ability to enjoy excursions, me more than she. I offer this caution: if you can avoid the "Panoramic _____ (major city)." You get driven around in a bus with maybe a stop or two and can point at places you've heard of/seen before, but that's about it. Have I been to London? Well, I've been THROUGH London but saw it mostly through a bus window. For those old enough to remember: "If it's Tuesday it Must be Belgium." Attached is an image from an iPhone 8, taken through a bus window (Buckingham Palace in the distance). Amsterdam was somewhat different: there we toured canals in an enclosed boat, but the result was similar. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary...Bergen Norway to Barcelona. Wonderful cruise except for the stormy seas and the bland food and the constant, annoying cello and violins! The food....the Restaurant took at least 2 hrs to complete a meal, but the food was better here than in the World Cafe (buffet). Mancini's was great, but not for all the time. We never did the Captain's Table, you have no control over what's on the menu. The World Cafe is where we ate most of our meals because it suits our attire, and hours. For breakfast, you at the same thing boring thing everyday. I tried to get an omelet once, but the "chefs" were too busy fooling around to pay attention to the customers waiting, plus it took forever when they did. Lunch and dinner were just boring and the desserts were all mini gel-filled things. Aweful stuff. In the dining room, you got a proper dessert, but again, we only went there sporadically because we hated how long it took. I will say that the gelato ice cream bar in the WC was very good. We love Viking generally, but the food was seriously lacking on this cruise. Even the "chocolate" show near the end of the trip was mostly unedible. I found lots of people throwing their stuff away, including us. Never gave hurricanes in the North Atlantic any thought in October, I thought they mostly stayed around Florida or up the eastern seaboard. I was wrong! The seas were very rough my friends! Nothing 'normal' people couldn't handle, but if you are at all prone to getting sick, this time of the year may not be for you. You take your chances, I guess. Our first port was Bergen..loved it! The North Sea, not so much. We love Amsterdam as well, but the included tour did not allow us to stay in town. The only time they allowed us off the bus was to look at up close at a windmill and take a canal cruise. Our absolute favorite stop was Brugges, Belgium!! Don't forget to buy chocolate!! LaHavre was a wasted stop. 3hrs from Paris left us weary from bus traveling all day...9hrs worth...and that was the INCLUDED tour! Wish we would have never done that one. I guess we could have done Normandy, but we weren't really interested. Portsmouth England was very windy, but had a great lunch at a local pub. We missed Falmouth England due to hurricane Michaels forces flooding the town. Porto was a great town, loved walking around there, even though it was raining on us! Malaga was beautiful, so was Cartegena! Barcelona's included tour was a huge disappointment! The fact that we didn't arrive in to port until 2pm was bad too. Only left with this scant few hours to see Barcelona, and as it turned out, we didn't really see anthing! Unless you stay a couple extra days at the end of this tour, you will not see much of Barcelona...except huge amounts of traffic! Sadly we can't really rate any of the entertainment in the theater because the seas were so rough we rarely went there. Tea! If your ship has "tea time" GO. It was fabulous! You might want to give it a day or two to slow down though. We didn't go the first week, but we did the whole second week with a lot fewer people! It was my sister's birthday and they brought her the most beautiful piece of cake and a bottle of champagne to her room! All ya gotta do is let them know! Read Less

We have gone on four river cruises with Viking, so we knew we'd have a high-calibre experience. However, this was our first ocean cruise. We've avoided ocean cruises because the idea of sailing with thousands of people on a behemoth of a ship held no appeal. But Viking's small ship experience is something completely different. No tendering in from a ship docked in open water, 5 minutes to disembark for even the most popular attractions, and no children. (Sorry, but now that we are empty-nesters, we want adult company when we travel.) The staterooms were excellent and the food exceptional. We paid for a penthouse veranda cabin (which got us free laundry and lots of space) but didn't go so far as to book a cabin with a separate sitting room. That turned out to be a good move: the sitting room cabins were really the same accommodation with a curtain separating the sleeping and sitting areas. The tours were excellent and varied. Every port included at least one free tour, but we found that the "included panorama tour" was often a bus tour with little chance to really explore - bite the bullet and do one of the special activities in every port. To be honest, we didn't take advantage of the nightly entertainment, preferring to socialize with fellow passengers or hit the hay. We chose the tour for the itinerary, never having been traveled through Scandinavia. Traveling in September meant we hit rain and cool weather in Finland and Norway, but even then the enrichment activities were well worth the time. Once out of Finland, the sun was with us for the rest of the trip. We took way too many clothes. Despite the advice to dress formally for the specialty restaurants, one nice pair of pants and a nice blouse or sweater is really all you need - and men didn't always wear jackets even in the nicest restaurants. Furthermore, if you are in a penthouse category stateroom, the laundromat is free so you don't need two weeks' worth of clothes (just don't plan to do your laundry when the ship is at sea for the whole day - everyone has the same idea!) As I said in the title, we had such a great experience that we booked 2 more cruises (Bergen-London and Barcelona-Venice) before we left the ship. There are some excellent perks offered for doing so and few penalties if you subsequently change your mind. We were glad to book early, as the ocean cruises seem to fill up very quickly. Read Less

The cruise director Bevin was so engaging and brought great talent to the ship. The variety of restaurants and the quality of food was without question outstanding and there was some food available all day and an afternoon tea was thrown in as well As is true with many excursion opportunities the experience is in the eye of the beholder. All included excursions very basic and usually a bus panoramic of the city. Anything more required an additional payment and that could add up quite quickly. thhecgym was well equipped and while I did not use the sauna or the snow room those who did were quite happy with it. We have travelled the world extensively but never been to Scandinavia or Russia so this looked like a good way to do a first experience in that part of the world. When we looked at the various options it seemed like Viking was the best for many reasons. First among those reasons was that it was a smaller ship which meant that everything was not so crowded with only 930 guests. All cabins were outside with balconies and from the internet pictures looked very comfortable and well appointed which they were. One of the features that particularly attracted us was the list of what they did not do or have since we were more interested in an expedition type cruise rather than a floating party. For example, they have no casinos and big entertainment. No passengers under 18. No umbrella drinks. No photographers. No nickel and dime treatment. No extra charge for different dining venues. No charge for wifi and the list goes on. The shore excursions were interesting and varied as well as being included for at least one in every port with other options which cost extra. They were all very well organized with smaller groups. Prior to any shore excursion there was a comprehensive briefing to supplement the hand-out information in their booklets. The crew were very accommodating, the entertainment good without being too elaborate and every aspect of the service was first class. Read Less

We are interested in this part of the world due to our heritage and were very excited to see all the delightful tour spots. We also met up with our high school foreign exchange student from 50 years ago in Bergen Norway. We loved every minute of the cruise and everything on board the ship was just perfect. You could not ask for better facilities. The food is just terrific in every way and delicious. From the more formal dining restaurants to the World Cafe, you always receive a fantastic meal. All the crew is top notch in every regard and always gave the most gracious service for any and every request. I love the way they remember your name. Our only regret is that we did not have more time in Berlin. I guess we are going to have to go back! The Soviet Flashback tour was a unique eyeopening and informational event as well as the most entertaining day. That was our favorite tour. We also were so fortunate to have dinner at the Captain's Table which was a real treat. And our cruise director Beven Addinsall was terrific! Sea food was outstanding: sushi, crab, shell fish, salmon, etc. And this was nightly fare on the 7th deck. The specialty restaurants are overrated. They tried too hard. Food was better in the main restaurant and the 7th floor. The Explorer Lounge was a treat at any time of day. High Tea was very satisfying. Ship size is perfect. Closest to Holland American than any other that line I've been on. Shore excursions were adequate. Guides were indifferent; some were good, only a few were outstanding, but the good ones were surperlative. But the excursions were uniformly satisfactory. Music was balanced. We chose this Cruise to travel with another couple and made the reservation over a year ahead. The quality of ship, crew, services and experiences was exceptional. We enjoyed the amenities of the ship and quality of the design of the ship. Our prior experience with Viking has been on European River Cruises. The ability of us to be on the same tour bus was not able to be accommodated consistently.. Many times, much to our frustration, we found that we were assigned different busses for a given tour. We found some local guides were much better than others. Uneven utilization of audio devices was disconcerting as some guides said they had requested one but had been denied. We wish that they would not fill the tenders to capacity when shuttling for tours. More trips with less crowding would be much better. We found the internet connection speeds to be inconsistent. I would think this should be able to be improved. We particularly enjoyed Luis on the guitar and Dr. Lori talking about Viking history. Read Less

This was our third Viking Cruise (second Ocean), and we have two more river cruises scheduled for 2019. In our opinion, Viking Cruises has always been at the top of our list. I'm not sure if they are experiencing growing pains, but.. Viking does a poor job at advising passengers that they are put in the back of the bus when it comes to booking amenities such as Optional Excursions, Included Excursions, Restaurants, and other Ship activities. If we had know that Class of Service was a direct tie to options, we would have never booked it. All of the optional tours were sold out when we were allowed to book them. All of the included tours were only available in the afternoon. Don't get me wrong, we were pretty excited to be able get the lowest fair available for this Cruise, but we paid a price for the options!!! To say the least, we were disappointed!!! Utilizing Viking Travel leaves a lot to be desired!!!! At one point, we were about to board our flight for our extended stay in Edinburgh. I'm not sure why, but we got stuck paying for our luggage at a tune of GBP 130. We were told by a Viking Customer Service Rep to refer to the "Fine Print". I sent a claim to Viking Customer Relations, but received a canned response that it will take 5 Business Days to review and respond. The entire staff on the ship exceeded our expectations. Overall, Viking has dropped a notch in our books from "Excellent" to "Very Good". Read Less

I wanted to see my homeland of Scotland and Ireland. With the highlight of the trip being two days in London. We pre-toured in Oslo with a train ride to Bergin, fantastic. We finished the cruise with three days in Edenborough, again a fantastic stay. The tours from the ship were not of the caliper of previous voyages with Viking. We were driven by museums and castles, and told that if we had more time we could go in. For a few dollars more tickets to castles and museums could have been purchased and that cost past on to the consumer (me) as part of the cost of the cruise. The crew was fantastic, I am amazed that they can remember the names of all the customers. On our first night in the Restaurant, out server introduced herself and then responded that she had met us before. She was correct, she was working on our previous cruise. To myself and other guests that I spoke to, a big disappointment was planning on two days in London. We were hoping to see the sights and felt cheated that London (Greenwich) was only a convenient Disembarkation / Embarkation point that the customer only had a few hours to visit. Embarkation left a lot to be desired, too many buses going to the airport for the transition to Edinburgh, and to many flights to the next destination. The Viking Travel people did not include a baggage allowance for the flight, we and other customers had to pay the fee out of pocket. Recommendation: Make the ride to the airport a city tour, explain what we are seeing and take a roult that would allow the customers to at least see London if not able to experience London. Instead of using the airlines, send the customer from London to Edinburgh by train, it would have been a 3 hour trip, we would have seen the country and Viking could have reserved an entire car. The Viking Air people on this trip did not seam to be engaged in the product Viking was selling. Twice I had to contact them to issue tickets from London for the extention in Edenburgh. I am looking forward to a river cruise in 2020, not sure if I will due another ocean cruise. Read Less

We were very happy to have been upgraded to a penthouse veranda which is quite a bit larger than the deluxe veranda. The food was plentiful and very good. We loved the sushi. We actually preferred the Restaurant and the buffet to the specialty restaurants. The entertainment was perfect, and it was nice to see the performers around the ship. They were always out there right after the shows. It was just right and not over the top. We also enjoyed all the shore excursions, always wishing there were more time in each port. Judy did an amazing job with her organization of the shore excursions. We were less impressed with the pre and post excursions. We did not realize that Viking farmed these out to other companies. The pre excursion in Oslo offered nothing except a hotel room and train ride. No effort was made to contact the participants and by the time we saw the Viking desk there was no reason to even check in. All they did was give info regarding tours that were available at an extra cost. The post excursion in Edinburgh at least offered some interesting excursions which were included. A meeting was held when we arrived and information was dispersed. Pick up and drop off at the airport was totally inadequated. Our pickup person was 15 minutes late and no one knew what to do. Our drop off was not near the entrance to the airport and we had to drag our luggage quite a ways. All in all, we would no consider any pre or post excursions in the future. Read Less

This was our first experience with Viking Ocean Cruises. The ship was a perfect size, the staff was very accommodating, the food was delicious and plentiful. The included tours were all very good and well organized. We had no complaints with any aspect of the cruise. We were so pleased that we have booked a river cruise for next year and have been told that they are even better. We loved the fact that there were no passengers under 18. Viking does Ocean cruises like they were meant to be and used to be. Bigger ships does not mean better, in fact, just the opposite. You may pay more with Viking but it is worth it. Viking ships provide balconies with all their rooms, no inside cabins. Awesome setup. The bathroom floor was heated which is nice in the colder climates. We can’t wait to do another ocean cruise with Viking. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary and the cruise line. We have traveled on Viking River cruises but not their ocean line. We did the pre-extension in Iceland and then flew to Bergen, Norway to board the ship. The ship is beautiful. All of the crew were wonderful and helpful. Even though there were 900 guests on board, it was not crowded and just a fantastic experience. The cabin, which was a Verandah on the 6th floor, was perfectly planned. Lots of storage and easy to move around in. There were two, no reservation dining areas, and two reservation dining rooms. We chose to eat in the areas that did not require reservations. The staff was great and the food was plentiful and wonderful. We did a shore excursion in every port as we wanted to experience as much as we could. We truly enjoyed the ones out in the countryside versus the ones in the city. It was great that they offered excursions for folks with mobility issues as we met wonderful people that could not go on many of the excursions we went on but thoroughly enjoyed the simpler tours. We have enjoyed Viking River cruises and wanted to try out their new ship, Viking Sun. We truly loved our cabin, which was a Penthouse Suite. The ship was gorgeous with so many wonderful spaces, fabulous food and great, varied choices. good wine with meals, outstanding entertainment and we even enjoyed the excursions. The staff was simply amazing and we wanted for nothing. There was always a smile and a warm welcome. We will definitely take another Viking Ocean cruise. We thought that 14 nights would be too long. It was just perfect...We also loved the itinerary. The only negative is one of the excursions that we paid extra for was a huge disappointment. It was for bird watching and we were informed too late that all the sea birds were already gone at this time of year. Viking should have known that and informed us. That is our only complaint, other than the gym. IN a perfect world there would be a more varied schedule for classes other than 7:30am. A casino would be fun as well. Read Less

Unpacking once and being able to experience multiple ports of calls by simply stepping off the ship was wonderful. The food overall was delicious and we had many choices of cuisine and restaurants. . It was fun to taste the local cuisine at lunch and dinner in each port of call. The guides were so knowledgeable and having the Port talks and Q&As helped tremendously. It enabled the experience of the historical sites to be all we hoped they would be. The Cruise Director gave us little tops for each stop. My favorite spot Eidfjord,Norway, was beyond spectacular as we viewed it from our balcony at sunrise. It had been a life long dream to see the Fjords and it surpassed all of my expectations. The most wonderful part overall was the total relaxation on this beautiful luxurious ship. There was nothing you could want for, from the throw blankets everywhere to the popcorn and movies at night to be taken care of at every moment by a very efficient, friendly crew. Read Less

This was our fourth Viking Ocean Cruise which makes us a real Viking follower and supporter. As usual, the embarkation went smoothly with a Viking representative meeting us at the airport and providing transportation directly to our ship. On this particular cruise, we started in Bergen, Norway and did one of the included tours plus we went up to Mt. Floien. Both our ship and cabin were first class, very clean with outstanding facilities to make our trip that much rewarding. One of the perks of sailing with Viking is the first class dining onboard that makes you feel that you are at a Michelin star restaurant. In addition to the main restaurant, you have two specialty restaurants in Manfredi’s and the Chef’s Table. Both serve amazing food and first class service along with a pretty good selection of wines. Besides Bergen, we stopped at different ports in Ireland, England and Scotland. The included tours and excursion obviously are first class but we did book some optional excursions that were both intriguing and interesting. Viking has a variety of entertainment including visiting speakers and musicians. The Viking entertainment group performed several different dance and singing routines that I thought were excellent. Overall, Viking provides a wonderful travel experience from start to finish. They are well organized and as a traveler, everything is provided so that you can just sit back and relax. From start to finish, the crew and staff can’t do enough for you so that the only thing you have to do is be grateful that you have so many memories. Read Less

We've sailed on Viking River cruises and found them to be first rate, so we were eager to sail on their British Isles Ocean Cruise. We have traveled on other ocean cruise lines and have been disappointed in many aspects. Viking does not disappoint! The attractiveness and cleanliness of the Viking Sun was amazing. The Sun had the most comfortable stateroom ever, with a veranda, ample closet and drawer space...and that bathroom with the heated floor! Many cruise ships have redundant menus and not a lot of dining options. So many choices were available and we booked the specialty restaurants a few nights. We also enjoyed the seafood buffet on several occasions. The menus were varied and wine or beer was served at each meal. The menus included some of the local flavors of the areas we visited...and that's an important part of traveling to us. I also have to say that we also took advantage of breakfast in bed on more than one morning! I have to mention ... all of this at no additional cost! Other cruise lines "nickle and dime" continuously. Unfortunately we weren't able to partake of all the activities offered on board...there were so many, we didn't have enough time to do them all! The entertainment was more than outstanding and we look forward to the performances of the talented performers every night. One of the most outstanding features of this cruise was the service. I commend whomever does the hiring and training of the staff. Everyone we encountered was genuinely friendly and eager to serve, in a comfortable, relaxed way...no stuffiness! We were always addressed by our names, we felt like valued guests. The port excursions were terrific. The guides were so informative and we appreciated the local perspective and personal stories they shared. It was nice to have included excursions in each port and well as more in-depth tours available to book. We were so delighted with our experience on the Viking Sun, that while on board we booked an Alaskan Cruise! **Warning** They book up fast, we couldn't get on til 2020! I truly have to say that our first choice will always be Viking for any future cruises! Read Less
