Very Disappointing - for many reasons

The Good: The ship is nice and the ports are interesting. Manfredi’s is a great place and the man who manages it is a very accommodating fellow. Our room Steward was very good. The not-so-good: The silver liquor package is not worth it anymore. When we traveled with Viking on the Budapest to Amsterdam river cruise the higher-end wine and liquor were worth the extra money – on this ...

Friends had raved about their Viking Cruise, so our expectations were high. All expectations were met. The staff was friendly and attentive. All appeared to love their job. The food choices were phenomenal and quality the same. The ship was immaculate 24/7. The spa was an incredible feature with steam, sauna and snow room. I had a great massage and should have had another. The shore excursions ...

Do not go on this cruise until Viking Changes the Itinerary to Include Only Ports that can be Visited--Once Ports are Fixed Don't Miss this Cruise

Every ( 5 or 6 cruises) Northern Lights cruise this year missed the same two ports Stavanger and Bodo. Viking changed the Stavanger Port to Lerwick, Scotland. Not one time was Viking Venus able to dock in either Bodo or Lerwick because of weather. The result--every cruise had 5 consecutive days at sea either at the start or at the end. I contacted the highest levels (Mr Hagen) of ...

Choose this cruise because Northern Lights viewing was on my bucket list, as was a cruise experience. Read material provided by Viking and compare to other cruise lines...picked Viking because it offered more bang for the buck. My only criticism is that two ports of call that were promoted were skipped due to weather issue. And while I understand that Viking can't control the weather, I came to ...

Wonderful way to see the Northern Lights

As an amateur astronomer seeing the Aurora has always been on my bucket list. I had been on a Viking Ocean cruise before and had a great trip to Australia and New Zealand. So when I found out about this ocean cruise with Viking called “In Search of the Northern Lights “ I jumped at the chance. My husband and I and another couple went together. We used Viking Air for the flights. We started with ...

The intent was to see the northern lights and we actually did see them.

We had previously been on four Viking river cruises, all positive experiences. This was our first Viking ocean experience. It had been rescheduled twice prior to our actual embarkation. The ship itself is of a decor much to our liking, Scandinavian and somewhat spare in appearance without being stark. The staff was unfailingly polite and helpful. The food was always prepared very well and was ...

Enjoyed our wonderful cold cruise!

We chose this cruise because we were invited by friends to see the Northern Lights. We had never been to Norway nor on a Viking Ship and had never been on a cold winter cruise. We were ready to cruise again after 2 years of no cruising. Also, Viking made us feel safe by constant testing, masking and a small group. Also felt safer with all immunized people and no children. The ship was ...

There were plenty of bucket list items to check off on this once-in-a-lifetime cruise: seeing the Northern Lights, going dog sledding and snowmobiling, seeing the ice hotel in Sorrisniva, and going to a Sami camp. This was our first (but not last) ocean cruise on Viking. We chose this cruise for the adventurous excursions and the chance to get off the beaten path in cold and snowy Norway. From the ...

ARTIC TRADEOFF: Operations during COVID vs Norwegian Beauty

Review for Viking Venus to Baltic Sea

Operations during the COVID lockdown were more difficult and restrictive for passengers and crew but the 450 plus passengers completed the trip without incidents as far as we could determine. The safety protocols in place restricted passenger movement on ashore excursions keeping passengers in a bubble much like the NBA playoff protocols earlier in 2021. We expected this based on phone calls to ...

An honest review from personal experience

We have just returned from our first-ever cruise (Viking Northern Lights). We chose Viking because of its business model which appeared to suit our general requirement for high-end travel. Unfortunately, the reality didn’t quite meet Viking’s service-level claims. Much of what they do is good, but there are many areas that require finessing before it can truly claim to deliver a luxury travel ...
