The whole experience blew my mind!

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Polarlys

I will start off by Hurtigruten make it very clear in their advertising the coastal voyage is not a cruise, so if you go with that expectation you have not done your homework properly and might be disappointed. If you want to have an authentic adventure, voyage to the Artic and back, learn and experience Norwegian culture and coastal life, see the most wonderful scenery, relax and escape the ...

I need glutenfree meal and everythings was ok, very delicius and I got my special food. The cabin is enough for such a trip. The beds are very good, we slept wonderfull. The all view of the ship is excellent. The crew is very friendly and competent. We got all information about everything and we like the crew very much. We specially chose a small and family ship. And our mind was super. We ...

Sunny Norway on a small “working” ship.

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Vesteralen

When Norway opened to Covid-19 vaccinated tourists in July 2021, the time for the 5000 km Bergen - Kirkenes - Bergen Hurtigruten trip was just right. The reduced occupancy (just slightly over 100 people in the cabins, plus the hop on, hop off passengers) of the smallest ship in the fleet made the journey quite special. Not to mention the weather, which was really cooperating. Nine sunny days ...

Exceptional nature, ship and services not up to standards

Review for a Europe - All Cruise on Polarlys

The first thing to be noted is that a classic Hurtigruten voyage is not a cruise. The Hurtigruten concept is based on a combination of transporting freight as well as passengers along the Norwegian coast. During the full voyage from Bergen to Kirkenes and back 34 ports are entered, some of them even twice. In most of the ports the ship only stops 15-30 minutes to load and unload freight and ...

fantastic, relaxing sailing with beautiful scenery and great food

We are a married couple of 63 and 66 years, and have long wanted this trip to see Norway from the coastal side. It was a wonderful experience. Norway showed its high mountains and deep fjords from its best side. On the ship which is not very big, we got beautiful food from Norwegian local ingredients and good service, and good information about the places we passed. No stressful ...

Public areas don’t have enough seats, generally overpriced

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Polarlys

Even in times of corona, where the ship is maximum 60% full, the seats in the public areas are not enough. I would not want to travel on this or similar ships when 100% of its capacity can be used. Looking at the Norwegian coastline surely is beautiful but it’s also more or less the only thing you can do on board so it’s very disappointing if you can’t enjoy it properly because of not enough ...

Expensive ferry boat, not a cruise

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Maud

I don’t think I’ll ever do the Hurtigruten again. First it was very expensive, over 5000 kr per person for a 36 hour trip from Bergen to Trondheim going through Geiranger. We ordered the Arctic Superior room which was twice as expensive as a standard room, but it just had a round port window. It was no better than standard rooms on a normal cruise ship. The Hurtigruten shouldn’t be thought of ...

Great Norwegian scenery

We have always wanted to experience going with Hurtigruten along the Norwegian coast, and the scenery was amazing. We started in the beautiful town of Bergen and went all the way to Kirkenes. Embarkation and disembarkation were both very easy and well-organized, although there were some slight confusion about when and where to put the suitcases before disambarkation. The staff were all very ...

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Lofoten

I chose this for the country (Norway) plus the adventurous aspect of the excursions. I read that this year is the ship’s last year of sailing and it was the last time to experience a different type of cruise. The ship is stylish and whilst old still offers a comfortable, low key holiday. The staff were second to none, especially as they were dealing with the ever-changing unprecedented ...

Great cruise - highly recommended

I went on this cruise with my brother and his wife. We had always wanted to visit Norway and thought the winter cruise with the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights would be a great idea. We were not disappointed - we did see the lights although personally I was disappointed that they appeared like grey "clouds" and it was only through a good camera lens where the exposure could be left ...
