This is not a cruise ship, it's a ferry

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Polarlys

The ship is a poor uncomfortable noisy ferry. The cabin (we picked the one with windows and partial view- no other option available) it’s really small. There is a very small closet. The tv shows nothing. The bathroom is so small that you want to shower with open door just to have some air. They clean the cabin daily and they do a good job. The common area are invaded by backpackers who ...

BEWARE!!!! My Wife and I went on the Vesteralen I'm not sure if spelling correct but it doesn't matter it was the worst holiday we have had in our lives and couldn't wait to get of the boat The officers on board were rude and not customer focused The accommodation was two bunk beds in a room that could hardly fit two people in it I had to sleep on the floor as the top bunk made me ...

BORING and EXPENSIVE!!!!

My land tour was cancelled at the last minute and I had to find an alternative. Hurtigruten was all I could find but it is little more than a passenger ferry and an expensive one at that! I could have bought a new car for what I paid Hurtigruten and they‘nickel and dime’ their passengers for everything from extortionate alcohol prices to expensive bus ride excursions which passengers could do ...

Plague ship of broken promises!

Hurtigruten does not care about its’ customers, this much is clear. It cares only about revenues. It is an arrogant organisation with contempt for the law and those it takes money from. Let’s be quite direct. This is hosteling at 5* prices and any commitments made by the company are freely discardable at their discretion. So why have I come to this conclusion following a trip on “The most ...

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Lofoten

Classic ship on iconic route - what could be better? A lot, as it turns out: The route does not offer much fjord experience, mostly you trundle coast-wise behind the outlying islands. Most places the time in port is too short for sightseeing. Once in open seas, this little ships rocks. And rolls. Keep your seasickness pills handy. The company has a museum at its place of origin. Don't expect to ...

Old, dingy cruise ship with smallest cabins, horrible food and service

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Maud

We were booked on this ship by our Fjord Tours’ “Norway in the Nutshell “ package. So we didn’t really have a choice on the ship or more importantly, the cabin types and size. We were a family of 4 and we got 2 non-adjacent cabins. So our children’s cabin are away from ours. How the hell does that happen? To make it worse, the cabins were disgusting. They were so small, I think I have seen ...

Classic Voyage Bergen-Bergen

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Lofoten

First Time Cruiser • Age 70s

The MS Lofoten crew were brilliantly friendly and helpful and several passengers were so fond of the ship and crew that they were on a repeat voyage. Unfortunately, I was not to become so endeared to the ship. MS Lofoten is a 55 year old Ferry. It was designed as a Ferry. It was built as a Ferry. It is operated as a Ferry. Many people (and cargo) use it as a Ferry. It is not a “cruise” ship. ...

Hurtigruten Voyage Finmarken

I travelled to see the Northern Lights. In the 12 days aboard the ship our room was never vacuumed, the bed’s were made once and the sheets on the bed never changed. The food was always lukewarm to cold. Food leftovers from the previous night were put out for lunch next day and reheated. No water was available at breakfast. No coffee or tea was available for dinner. One slice of ...

Be absolutely clear that Hurtigruten is a ferry service and not a cruise line. We paid for a relaxing cruise but what we received was a passage on a working ship with very little customer care. Whilst we understand that the boat is a working boat, there is an expectation of a level of service commensurate with the cruise price and cabin level - however this is absolutely not the case. ...

Poor quality service and standards from an opportunistic cruise operator!

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Polarlys

We chose to travel on the Hurtigruten classic round trip 12 day voyage to see the coast of Norway, many ports of call and hopefully the northern lights. We were fully aware that the Ms Polarlys is a working ship but were extremely underwhelmed by the experience. Virtually all of the times of visits to ports of call were cut short as the ship nearly always arrived late but always left on ...
