Classic ship on iconic route - what could be better? A lot, as it turns out: The route does not offer much fjord experience, mostly you trundle coast-wise behind the outlying islands. Most places the time in port is too short for sightseeing. Once in open seas, this little ships rocks. And rolls. Keep your seasickness pills handy. The company has a museum at its place of origin. Don't expect to ...
The MS Lofoten crew were brilliantly friendly and helpful and several passengers were so fond of the ship and crew that they were on a repeat voyage. Unfortunately, I was not to become so endeared to the ship.
MS Lofoten is a 55 year old Ferry. It was designed as a Ferry. It was built as a Ferry. It is operated as a Ferry. Many people (and cargo) use it as a Ferry. It is not a “cruise” ship. ...
We were booked on this ship by our Fjord Tours’ “Norway in the Nutshell “ package. So we didn’t really have a choice on the ship or more importantly, the cabin types and size.
We were a family of 4 and we got 2 non-adjacent cabins. So our children’s cabin are away from ours. How the hell does that happen? To make it worse, the cabins were disgusting. They were so small, I think I have seen ...
After all the publicity regarding the Viking Sky off the coast of Norway and the impact on the passengers, it appears that it is not widely recognized what happened to us on the Viking Star in early October of 2016. Our captain, and I am sure Viking, went directly in a significant storm when sailing from Iceland to Greenland in the North Atlantic. According to the captain, who I spoke with ...
I travelled to see the Northern Lights.
In the 12 days aboard the ship our room was never vacuumed, the bed’s were made once and the sheets on the bed never changed.
The food was always lukewarm to cold.
Food leftovers from the previous night were put out for lunch next day and reheated.
No water was available at breakfast.
No coffee or tea was available for dinner.
One slice of ...
Be absolutely clear that Hurtigruten is a ferry service and not a cruise line. We paid for a relaxing cruise but what we received was a passage on a working ship with very little customer care. Whilst we understand that the boat is a working boat, there is an expectation of a level of service commensurate with the cruise price and cabin level - however this is absolutely not the case. ...
We chose to travel on the Hurtigruten classic round trip 12 day voyage to see the coast of
Norway, many ports of call and hopefully the northern lights. We were fully aware that the Ms Polarlys is a working ship but were extremely underwhelmed by the experience.
Virtually all of the times of visits to ports of call were cut short as the ship nearly always arrived late but always left on ...
We actually didn't sail on that date as we didn't sail at all and I wanted to share my experience of the customer service you should expect when your cruise gets cancelled by Hurtigruten.
My mother was informed of the cancellation when she was about to board the plane to Norway. Not only she spent the whole time crying and worrying, but no alternative was provided. The refund didn't come ...
the ship was great, the workers were great, the food was great. very expensive. can get the about the same trip for a lot less. when we signed up for this trip there wasn't hardly any company doing it. now there are a lot of companies doing this for a lot less.
the excurions that they offer as free are the same time as the optional ones that cost nicely. Germany was a long ride in a bus that ...
This was our first Hurtigruten cruise (from Svoelvar to Bergen) after having taken seven other cruises globally on other cruise lines. This was a very disappointing cruise. We appreciated the newer ship and some beautiful remote locations but this cruise compares very poorly to other cruises. Only breakfast was included (no lunch or dinner), very few lecture/activities on the ship, little ...
