Such a wonderful experience on Viking’s new ocean vessel. It was our first experience on an their ocean vessel, but won’t be our last. Every part of the cruise was fabulous! Can hardly wait to book again. The entertainment was so incredible—who would expect the cruise director and assistant director to jump in and sing !! I mean really sing. Oh my. Such a 5 star experience!!!! Both the food and the service were over the top!!! Fabulous!!!! Going on and on sounds phony, but no really everything was wonderful. We so enjoyed the spa. We enjoyed a massage, but the pools and ice room, etc, were all very lovely. All the extra services like laundry i. Every floor made the whole cruise experience nice. Thank you Viking. Money well spent. (Viking. Please consider this 150 word minimum. I can say what I need to in much less. I don’t understand this requirement) Read Less

The ship an all the amenities far exceeded our expectations. Cabin and the service we received from the support staff truly made us feel welcome and beyond comfortable. Each port held so many interests giving us the ability to choose from a variety of activity levels and educational adventures. We enjoyed each included shore excursion as much as the additional excursions we took advantage of. The Port Talks were not only informative and entertaining, but provided us will valuable information regarding customs etc. A much needed wealth of information. , a big thank you to Nolan Dean and Steven Louw. The disembarkation and embarkation went smoothly and the various greetings from the crew imbued a great feeling of returning "home". The many dining venues gave us of an opportunity to explore a variety of meals familiar as well as new. Anything beyond what was offered was provided with a smile. The various shows an enrichment lectures were wonderful. We especially enjoyed the fact there were no Big production entertainment. This made each show very intimate an extremely enjoyable. In closing, the entire crew made this vacation an experience of a lifetime. Each day flowed smoothly from beginning to end, so much so, we booked a River Cruise on-board with Michael Hannus. Our desire to see Midnight Sun, Norwegian Fjords, the Orkney Islands, Edinburgh Castle and travel on a Viking Ocean Journey were the prime motivators for choosing this trip. All of the above were spectacular. What was a surprise was the fabulous staff: Restaurant staff, Buffet Staff, room steward...literally everyone we encountered couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Also the excursion on Shetland Island to Jarlshof was a surprise.....really interesting and well identified prehistoric archeological site. The Thames Barrier and the Imperial War Museum were also fascinating to see. Last, but certainly the least, was the food on board... delicious with lots of choices. We were also traveling with two other couples, who are our favorite people in the world. Our experience was certainly enhanced by being with them. The ship was quite wonderful. There were always more than enough places for the 6 of us to sit together, whether to enjoy our meals, enjoy the entertainment or just sit and talk. I was surprised by the entertainment...I really hadn't expected much, but it was top notch. Let also mention in this regard, the assistant cruise director. An amazing voice and a great entertainer. We probably enjoyed his performance the most. We also enjoyed the classical music trio. Superb musicians! Read Less

Had an Interest in the area that the cruise covered, Iceland, Norway, Shetland Islands, Orkney Island, Edinburgh, Scotland, England..Had done a previous Viking River Cruise and was impressed with the accommodations and the service so decided to try an ocean cruise with Viking. Really enjoyed the pre cruise option of several days stay with included tours in Iceland. The Geysir hot springs and the Blue Lagoon were some of the places along with the Golden Circle Tour. Great and knowledgeable land guide in Iceland. The staff on board ship were very friendly and helpful, always greeting you with a smile and asking if you needed anything. The ship is very clean and well maintained. The food options were varied with choices for every taste. They accommodated my husband special diet without any fuss or extra work on our part. Wine, if you wished to have it, was included at dinner at no extra cost. The cabin was comfortable with a small sitting area with two chairs and a coffee table and a outside veranda. Our refrigerator was refilled daily with our selection of beverages.Liked the heated bathroom Floor and the king size very comfy bed. There was an included tour in every port but there were also optional tours available. Found all of the tours guides very knowledgeable of the area of the tour. Read Less

We chose the the Viking Sky because it is a smaller ship with 940 passengers. We had gone on five Viking River Cruises and always had a good experience. Their cruise ship was no exception ... our 15 days were pure heaven..: We appreciated the relaxed atmosphere, good food, outstanding nightly entertainment, educational tours and much more! The staff were so happy to please and take care of our every need. Our cabin was very comfortable, and simply decorated. We especially liked the luxurious bathroom with the heated floor. The entertainment was outstanding and we loved the English tenor, Lee Bradley, that was brought in to perform for two concerts. The food was outstanding and we particularly enjoyed the fresh fish cooked on deck. The speciality restaurants were fine but we preferred the World Cafe for a more relaxed dining experience and preferred the open seating experience. We can’t wait to go on another Viking Cruise! We decided to take another cruise (3rd) with Viking because our friends, who we met on our first Viking river cruise a few years ago, invited us to join them. We thought it would be interesting to compare the ocean cruise Viking had to offer to our two previous Viking river experiences and to other ocean cruises we had taken. The ship was gorgeous and comfortable. The staff onboard were attentive, pleasant and extremely professional. The dining rooms were all excellent. Manfredi's was the most desirable dining option (in our opinion) but in very high demand. It was difficult to secure a reservation to eat there once onboard. FYI, Viking grants those who have spent the most money on their cabin priority access to dining reservations and excursions. That may be the case with other cruise lines as well. Most of the dining was set up for couples. We travelled with friends, but saw a few couples who looked at our group longingly. They seemed interested in meeting new people but the dining room tables which are mostly set up for two people didn't facilitate that. We enjoyed our cruise but found that the included excursions were not anywhere near as impressive or enjoyable as those provided on the river cruises. Some of the extra excursions were disappointing as well. Overall, however, the beautiful ship and attentive staff made this an enjoyable trip. Read Less

A 5 star experience in every category. The food was excellent and plentiful. The staff accommodating, friendly and approachable. Excursions reasonable and interesting. The Spa was incredible! The service was tip-notch! Pre-cruise stopover in Iceland was excellent. Staff met us at airport and provide orientation on bus ride to hotel. A hot, full breakfast awaited us at the hotel. Transport back to airport, though early in the morning, was timely. Welcoming in Bergen was warm and well coordinated. We did not see Our bags again until they were in our cabin. Embarkation was hassle free and very quick. Lunch ready upon arrival and we were out tiring within an hour of boarding. First dinner was at Manfredi's specialty restaurant and was remarkable in terms of food and service. A great way to start the cruise. Twelve hour excursion to Berlin was well coordinated and the private train was a nice touch. Read Less

My husband and I wanted to try a Viking Ocean cruise. We have been on several Viking River cruises and have thoroughly enjoyed them. We had never been to Iceland, Norway or Scotland so this was the perfect cruise for us. We loved the ship! It was very comfortable and did not seem crowded at all. We were a little concerned about having 900 people on the cruise when we were used to 200 people on the river boat cruises. There was plenty of room and nothing was overcrowded. All excursions were well organized so they did not seem crowded either. The food in all restaurants was outstanding!! One of my wishes was that there had been more lectures on the history of Norway and the Scandanavian countries. We feel like there were not enough lectures during each day on all different topics with regard to the areas we were traveling in. We also wish there had been more walking tours offered for the excursions. We had to take too many bus tours. The Viking staff was 5 star as always!! Read Less

We choose this particular cruise for the scenery and the ports, neither disappointed. From our beginning in Bergen to the end in London, Greenwich, this cruise will enchant and amaze. The beautiful Fjords, the quaint towns, the very friendly people, a sun that never quite sets, the windmill farm, seemingly growing out of the sea, and the history of the areas that are visited will leave you yearning for more. The ship is luxurious, with lots of space and public areas. Even though there were about 1000 guests on board, the ship never seemed crowded. There were always plenty of areas to sit and relax, and lots and lots of tall windows to look out at the scenery. The food was exceptional, served by attentive wait staff. I cannot say enough good things about our room stewards. They kept our room spotless, always greeted us with a smile, asked about our day, and always asked if there was anything we needed. The entertainment was average, some shows better than others, but that is just my opinion. The port talks were informative and helpful, so that we were ready for the next days excursions. I would highly recommend this cruise to anyone. This was our first ocean cruise with Viking, and I just want to say, VIKING DOES IT RIGHT!! Read Less

We flew into Oslo 2 days early where we got to explore the waterfront, a fabulous sculpture park, Olympic ski jump and viking ship museum before taking the train over the mountains to Bergen. With another day to explore Bergen Norway we were relaxed and ready to board the ship which was conveniently docked in the harbor. Embarkation was quick and easy. Lunch was served and we had time to explore the ship until our room was ready. All cabins have a balcony and are efficiently designed and comfortable. I liked having your shipboard account, TED lectures, port talks and guest lectures available on the cabin TV as well as attending them in person. The ship was beautifully decorated and just the right size for us. We don't care for large ships with casinos, water slides and long lines. It was definitely adult focused. All the food was excellent and the complementary wine and beer at lunch and dinner was a nice touch. We dined outside as much as possible, especially at lunch. The itinerary was great with something new to see every day and night. As we travelled North, having a cabin on the starboard side provided a constant view of Norway's coast. Weather varied greatly so a winter coat was needed at the North Cape and it was unusually hot and sunny in London. Thus the covered main pool was great and the roof was slid back in London. Due to bad weather the captain had to slow the ship and we missed going to the Shetland Islands. But he did a great job along with the ship's design keeping us sailing as smoothly as possible across the Norwegian sea to Scotland. The pianist, cellist, violinist, flute player and band were wonderful. All the staff were great and we got to know many of them over the 15 days. Tipping was automatically added to your account, but could be charged if desired. We only took the included excursions which provided an overview of each port, but many other interesting ones were available. Loved the SPA. One could use the pool, hot tub, ice grotto and steam room without booking a treatment. We did the Nordic bathing ritual which was interesting. We would definitely recommend Viking Cruises. Read Less

We love Viking river cruises and have done several, so naturally we wanted to go with them on a sea voyage. We have wanted to see Noways Fjords for a long time. We also went to Scotland, the Orkney Islands, and ended up in Greenwich, England. We absolutely loved the ship, the decor, the crew, and the food. The lectures and cultural highlights aboard the vessel were enlightening and added true enrichment to the experience. There were even Viking displays of museum quality. We enjoyed the "living rooms" and entertainment very much, as well as the entertainers and the Spa. The excursions, both included and optional were a good variety. One of the neatest things was to go up the Thames River in a Cruise Ship, turn around in the river and dock in Greenwich! Viking built the ships to measurements that would allow just that very thing. To embark, we just stepped on the ship, no lines or waiting, and the transfer to the airport flawless. Read Less

I choose this cruise for a number of reasons. Foremost being my experience with Viking on a river cruise, The people and quality were exceptional on it and I was hoping that would be indicative of any Viking venue. A second reason is my family heritage of being half Norwegian and half Swedish. I must also mention my love affair with St. Petersburg through college studies. From the onset Viking did not disappoint my expectations. Check-in was quick and easy. Our stateroom , a junior suite, was perfect for us. Location was ideal to all the high points on the ship and spacious for our needs and comfort. We were able to score a number of reservations at the specialty restaurants. Manfredi's ended up being our favorite, but not by default. The Chef's Table also left our palates happy with the great wine pairings. We strongly recommend the Silver Spirits package. Every meal was excellent no matter where we ate. The Explorer's Lounge became our favorite watering hole. The ship's entertainment in the theater was surprisingly professional and well worth seeing. The atmosphere present at every section of the ship enhanced whatever the experience one was involved in. The crew, these folks are the decisive element raising Viking above their competition. The Spa employees in my estimation lacked technique and ability to deliver what they advertised. Won't partake in that again. Overall, we felt truly welcomed and pampered. It's why one goes on a luxury cruise after-all. Our excursions were well metered out and never had more than 36 people involved. An amazing feat considering the number of people on board. The only failure on the entire cruise was the woeful execution of our transfer to the post cruise event to Iceland. All those who chose this extension were basically abandoned at the Stockholm airport to figure out on their own how to get boarding passes and check into their flights. Many were not even able to sit next to their spouses. Too bad. A bad way to end the experience. Not withstanding this faux pas, Viking excels when it comes to running a cruise on the sea. The ship configuration and standard amenities along with the wonderful crew are a cut above in my experience. We have already booked our next cruise, sans post air options. Read Less

I have always wanted to see the Scandinavian countries. Viking made this possible and it was the most wonderful cruise my wife and I have ever taken! We have taken nine cruises and this was the best!. Viking does it right, great accommodations, great food, great service! Viking is absolutely the best cruise line to sail with! One more thing, the room, the Explorer Suite was a jewel, as good as any hotel suite we have ever stayed in! The food was great, as usual, and the shore excursions were entertaining and educational. Our cabin steward, Adria, was the best ever! He paid close attention to our needs and the cabin was kept spotless. The stops in Copenhagen, Gdansk, Tallin, St. Petersburg, Helsinki and Stockholm were wonderful with St. Petersburg being one of the most enriching and educational stops we have ever made! I highly recommend Viking for anyone wanting to visit these countries. It was truly a great time and educational to boot! Read Less

The on board experience was excellent, food, service, entertainment. Everything just lovely. The Eidfjord Norway stop is scenic however there is nothing to do there except an excursion. There were no shops, nothing. Unfortunately the Viking included excursions have sometimes 29 people assigned to one guide and in the more crowded stops, its hard to enjoy since you spend more time trying to keep up with the guide. In Stockholm the guide had almost 50 people (the whole bus) and it was crowded. We booked a two day tour with TJ Travel in St. Petersburg with a maximum of 16 in a nice van. Our guide Victoria was absolutely terrific and its a good deal less expensive than the optional Viking tour. For a two day stop, Viking had only one half day included tour and you cannot leave the ship there without an escort that has a visa waiver status. We stopped in Iceland on the way over from New York. We arrived to the hotel about 7am and the rooms were not going to be available until 3pm. We had to sleep in the lobby of the hotel. Fortunately we did get rooms around noon but it just ruined our first day and the hotel is some distance from town. There's a shuttle until 5pm but then you need to walk 30 minutes or so or take a cab which is about $20 USD each way. VERY disappointed with Viking for this treatment. The organized excursions were really good but we lost a day for a relatively expensive stop. The cabin was very nice, the staff on board was outstanding. The food was superb in all dining locations. Their entertainment was good and their seminars informative and well done. Read Less

a cruise i have been wanting to do for a few years. we finally bit the bullet and spent the money to go. service could not have been better. if you can do it for a special occasion DO IT!! service of ice water at the pool - no problem finding plenty of open chairs. then sorbet and champagne around 3:30 to cool you off! high tea at 4pm in the tea room. smiling and accommodating help. great food which included something from the country we were visiting, free beers and wine with lunch and dinner, great burgers by the pool, a spa with a room full of snow, bathrooms with heated floors, lectures and entertainment also about and from the ports of call. an example of the service - i am short and had trouble using the single cup coffee maker that was on a shelf set in about shoulder high. to fill you had to put water in a container at the back of it and then press a few buttons on top which i had a hard time seeing . when we received a survey in our cabin asking for suggestions and comments my husband suggested in the future planning of rooms to switch the safe and the shelf to make it easier to use. the next evening our room steward showed up - "I am here to move your coffee maker!" we aim to make everyone happy. i will fill the back with water for you also! wow was my husband impressed as was I. this is just an example of what we experienced daily - besides the ship being beautiful. the right size also to get into tight ports of call. one great experience! my other cruise experiences pale in comparison. We had heard positive comments about Viking and when I was looking to plan a surprise 40th Wedding Anniversary Cruise I looked more closely at Viking. From my first phone call to inquire about a Viking Cruise I knew I had made the right choice! Viking made us feel like friends as opposed to a customer and that feeling continued up until we boarded the Viking Sun. While on the Cruise we built friendships with members of the Viking Sun Staff that have remained in contact with us! Everywhere we went on the Viking Sun the staff welcomed us by name! The restaurants made us feel like we were walking into our favorite restaurant back home where they knew us and were excited to see us and had been awaiting our arrival. Andriy and Andriy the Wine Stewards were ABOVE AWESOME! The Viking Band and Chris and Leroy were incredible entertainers that catered to the patrons of TorsHaven. This was our first cruise on a Viking ocean ship after having taken the Romantic Danube cruise three years ago. We lucked out on the weather with 14 days of warm sunshine and the seas were calm. We had a junior explorer suite with plenty of room very close to the Exlplorer's Lounge. Our favorite spots were the fjords in Norway and St. Petersburg. Dining by reservation was super fun and we made new friends. The nordic spa experience seemed intimidating at first but we quickly bought in and visited several times! Our only disappointment was one of our shore excursions that was rescheduled to an earlier departure late the night before by the vendor and we missed the notice (and, thus, the excursion). Otherwise, things worked like clockwork and we are Viking Fans for life! On board shopping was excellent and very personalized. The daily previews were very informative and helpful and the fact that we could watch a video replay at our convenience was great. Read Less

Excursion of each port event are nice organized for city tour and proper duration for walking tour. Weather was much nicer than what we expected in May, every 8 country we were traveling sunshine and good temperature. Most of the top, we like no casino on ship and no children around. All staffs of ship are very kindness and knowledgeable what should know about their duty. We were very disappointed with our 2 week British Isles cruise on Viking Sun. Viking pricing and advertising would lead one to expect a premium, e.g. Crystal, Silversea, Seabourn, cruise experience. Not even close. Viking offers a somewhat smaller cabin with a nice, by cruise-liner standard’s, shower. No tubs or walk in closets here. Occasionally good, but generally poor to mediocre food. You pay for liquor except for complementary beer and rather dull wines at lunch and dinner. It says a lot about the claim to be a luxury company when you end complementary wine and beer at the poolside grill when the inside dining rooms are not open. The crew is very warm and pleasant but unprepared to deliver the level of service one gets from the other mentioned cruise lines. One gets the feeling that the onboard management is more concerned with the bottom line than with passenger happiness. Profitability issues should be left at the home office. Tipping is not included, it is charged to your onboard account. Onboard entertainment is skimpy. On our voyage, a 4 man show band and 4 singer/dancers performed 2 shows on 2 evenings. There were 3 guest entertainers who each performed 1 show on 2 different evenings. Unfortunately, the show theatre cannot accommodate all the guests at one seating. At the “one performance only” shows late coming passengers stood or squeezed into seats. A classical trio, a pianist, and a guitar player perform at various onboard venues. There is no casino. 1000 piece puzzles, scrabble games, checkers, dominoes, and several other physical and digital board games can be found in an area called the Atrium. Internet access is free for all guests and lots of passengers are playing games or otherwise busy on their cell phones. The so called enrichment lectures are a tall tale. There are accomplished lecturers speaking on topics that are of very little interest to the vast majority of passengers. Lecture attendance averaged 15 to 30 people. Bottom line, unless you really want a Viking itinerary, you can do a lot better for your money by shopping elsewhere. Read Less

Have traveled to over 30 countries (Asia,Canada,Europe, S. America & Alaska) but only Iceland in Scandinavia! So, discovered this extensive, well priced cruise with Viking! My wife and I were "blown away" by the overall amenities of the vessel, the caring, friendly crew and the unique design of our ship! Never experienced such genuine, kind, caring to every detail from each and every crew member! Our ship was maintained in "spotless" detail throughout our journey. From greeting us at our arrival airport in Bergen, Norway until our departure in Stockholm Sweden positive, overall experience was beyond our highest expiation. The food selection, service and quality, was the finest we had ever experienced on any previous cruises with other cruise lines! The design and beauty of our vessel was truly breath taking! Having a laundry facility on each deck was/is unique to Viking also, especially when taking a 10 day+ trip. Other cruise lines charge for laundry services, but not Viking! Which naans you will not have to pack so many clothes fro the longer journeys. Additionally, the free, "included" trips at each port resulted in big savings and ease of selection. The inclusive airfare and "to & from" planning, plus Viking's staff meeting & greeting you upon arrival at your departure port was/is flawless! In short "they do it all"! All we had to do was print our flight boarding passes and show up at our local, small town airport!
