I heard a lot of good things about Viking before the cruise. The trip was fantastic! Even though there was 900+ people on the boat, it was hard to tell. Our first Viking cruise. From the time they picked us up at the airport to the time they dropped us off, Viking did a wonderful job. The crew was amazing, the service impeccable. We chose the itinerary: Bergen to St. Petersburg. Through no fault of Viking's, the tail end was lopped off (for obvious reasons), so no St. Petersburg, no Helsinki, no Tallinn. The replacements - Gdansk, Berlin, a second day in Oslo - were not great. The stops that remained from the original destinations were fantastic.

We chose this cruise, because it essentially circled the English islands, including Scotland, Wales, Ireland, and England proper. Since it was a cruise, we only had to pack and unpack once, which is a huge plus. This is a wonderful way to visit the British Isles. The Viking Venus visited the major cities, but the real stars were the smaller destinations (notably Shetland, Orkney, and Holyhead) that the bigger ships skip.
