Disappointing, traumatic and a waste of money. Deeply saddened.

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Spitsbergen

Look, I LOVED my Norwegian coastal cruise -- which is why I booked this trip during the height of Covid. It was postponed for two years. I was thrilled to board the ship and was looking forward to a great trip. NOT. This was the first time this itinerary was done by Hurtigruten and the inexperienced expedition team had never been to this area and their answers to everything was "I don't know, I've ...

Old, dingy cruise ship with smallest cabins, horrible food and service

We were booked on this ship by our Fjord Tours’ “Norway in the Nutshell “ package. So we didn’t really have a choice on the ship or more importantly, the cabin types and size. We were a family of 4 and we got 2 non-adjacent cabins. So our children’s cabin are away from ours. How the hell does that happen? To make it worse, the cabins were disgusting. They were so small, I think I have seen ...

Expensive mistake

Went on this voyage to see the Northern Lights. NO Northern Lights. Hurtigruten advertise a free trip if you do not see them, but you have to have an inside cabin, pay through the nose for your food. A real advertising gimmick and not to be trusted. The ship is ok, but you have to buy everything except for the air you breath. Meals are included and so is the ghastly coffee out of a massive tank. ...

Deisel Engine Ferry: Not a cruise

This cruise was booked by friends, thus I would not have chosen it. Staff was rude, cabin was changed three times, food was the same for 12 days and nights, and hot, congested public spaces were horrendous. No entertainment or stimulation, so it felt like a prison sentence. Highly disappointed, plus received no feedback from the cruise line after contacting management. Don’t waste your ...

Complete waste of money

Always wanted to visit the fjords in Norway and go up to Kirkenes. I paid almost $5000USD and I informed them I was a vegetarian when I booked the trip. Despite having paid a huge amount of money and having paid for a full board, as a vegetarian I pretty much starved on this cruise. They didn't even bother to make any attempt to cook anything remotely decent as vegetarian food for a res. E roved ...

This was my third hurtigruten voyage, others being finnmarken and midnatsol. I had a very noisy cabin which i complained about. I could see other empty cabins on the same deck on more than one occasion. Why wasn't i moved? I was free wine by the restaurant manager on account of my lousy cabin which i declined. I made a request whilst on board. I repeated the request asking another member of the ...

This was our first Hurtigruten cruise (from Svoelvar to Bergen) after having taken seven other cruises globally on other cruise lines. This was a very disappointing cruise. We appreciated the newer ship and some beautiful remote locations but this cruise compares very poorly to other cruises. Only breakfast was included (no lunch or dinner), very few lecture/activities on the ship, little ...

Truly the MOST money grubbing and mercenary organisation I have ever encountered. Combine this with an appalling military attitude to PAYING clients-customers and you have Hurtigruten. At dinner last night we were served by slamming down our food in front of us . Service I do not think this organisation comprehend the term. Ask for water and be sold very expensive bottled water as the normal and ...

A disaster waiting to happen plus blocked toilets

This is a warning to any prospective passengers of Hurtigruten. The Midnatsol is 20,000 DWT and carries a maximum number of passengers of 1,000. This actually makes it a very crowded ship in comparison to other cruise ships. Its staffing levels are nowhere as high as what you find on a conventional cruise ship The staffing in the restaurant is totally inadequate about 12 or 13 bodies serving ...
