I don’t think I’ll ever do the Hurtigruten again. First it was very expensive, over 5000 kr per person for a 36 hour trip from Bergen to Trondheim going through Geiranger. We ordered the Arctic Superior room which was twice as expensive as a standard room, but it just had a round port window. It was no better than standard rooms on a normal cruise ship. The Hurtigruten shouldn’t be thought of ...
Cruise to see Northern Lights and Norwegian coastline
This was a Christmas present for my wife who had to cancel due to her sisters bereavement 2 weeks prior to departure.
Hurtigruten were most unsympathetic and inflexible, they would not refund the cost, or change names on tickets to allow use by someone else, or defer the dates.
In the end to avoid losing all the money I travelled ...
We booked this cruise to travel with friends who had never been to Norway. The first thing to be very aware of is that once you book, there are no cancellations allowed without losing your large deposit. No exceptions, even if it’s more than a year in advance. Also, before you book - be aware that the ship only stops once a day in a port long enough to actually get off the ship. And then it ...
Chose this due to fantastic marketing by Hurtigruten but the reality does not live up to the marketing. The Norwegian coast is not how it's portrayed in promotional material and the towns are not quaint fishing village types but industrial towns. Not very attractive. The food was OK and varied choices buffet style for breakfast and lunch. Set dinner served most nights, portion size small. Buffet ...
Spectacular views, OK staff, but terrible, stingy organization.
Truly irritating experience booking excursions. The agents constantly referred us to the online info. However, the online information was wrong, and had been wrong since before it was published online. We recommend you verify any of your important assumptions with a human, even if you have to push them to great confirmation from ...
My wife and I booked this cruise with Readers Offers from the daily newspapers. We flew to Bergen to meet the ship but were told, along with all the other passengers, that the ship was delayed because of bad weather. We were accommodated in a hotel in Bergen whilst waiting for the ship. In reality, the ship was delayed from dry dock in Denmark and the maintenance staff were still working on the ...
Advertised as a cruise ship going up to the very North of Norway. It was not a cruise ship as understood by the name but a merchant /car ferry with passengers..The trip started badly with the ship delayed and we were put up in a local 2 star hotel, food was good but room was poor with many items broken in the bathroom. Moved to a better room shower better.. Transport from airport to hotel was ...
We thought this was a cruise. It turned out being a ferry pretending to be a cruise ship.
Countless stops during the night very noisy dont book cabin 723 above cargo hold if you want some sleep. No on board lectures, entertainment.Communications via tannoy system poor Breakfast & Lunch buffets OK, for dinner 3 course no choice if you didn't like what was served tough luck.
The cabin 723 was ...
This was our 6th cruise. The ship was very nice but the food was bland, unimaginative and nearly the same every meal. The ship had NO activities for guests, other than reading or watching the scenery. There was a theater, but it was used only twice to give information about the excursions and departure. I don't understand why they couldn't show movie or documentaries in the theater while at ...
This was our first cruise and I was aware that some stops would be short, however if time is lost through bad weather or technical problems then stops are curtailed and sometimes you are not allowed to get off the boat at all. Apparently the schedule is the same in winter so the chances of stops being curtailed at that time must be much higher.
Excursions are expensive. We booked ours in ...
