The ship was clean and well cared for. Staff very nice, I even tipped extra. The food however was horrible. Very few dinning choices and most had an extra cost to eat such as hamburger or even a pizza. I get that if you want something that cost more like lobster but a hamburger really? Speaking of the lobster one of our group members tried it. He said it looked green and slimy and thought that was just how it was prepared. It was hard to tell because of how bad the food was everywhere else. He ended up with food poisoning as well as my wife whom had eating some eggs. The serving times where so short that you had nowhere to sit and eat. The staff even stopped the serving lines 15 to 20 minutes early so many time we went with out eating. No big loss their. They allowed smoking on most of the ship including dinning areas so you couldn't get fresh air. We even had my own balcony but we couldn't even use that because our neighbors smoked on the balcony next to us. We totally waisted our money. They also have several hidden charges that we discovered later. Geev Galvez and his helper Charle Ramirez. They worked in the main dinnig room for the special dinner. The service was spot on. Drinks before we even had to ask for them and offered different food choices as they notced people not eating the food. Not their falt on the food qulity but they did their best. Other service in restraunts was good to vary poor. We ate one night at the pizza / hambeger place and after asking 6 times to get someting to drink we all took turns to go to the buffet to get drinks and come back. We never did get any drinks that we didn't go get our selfs. Read Less

WE chose this trip because of the itinerary despite reading a lot of negative reviews. BIG MISTAKE. The food in the main restaurant was DISGUSTING. The staff was arrogant and unhelpful. The port calls were either too brief to do any real sightseeing or were at ports that really had nothing to do with tourism (Bari. It, Corfu, Gr). All of our excursions were booked through the ship. They were, to be generous, lame. There was widespread coughing onboard and both my wife and I returned with serious infections. Nobody used the hand sanitizers. The entertainment was all in italian (one night was supposed to be pop songs and featured three renditions of Volare while another night's entertainment was opera) and cheap beyond belief. Smoking is permitted in all of the outdoor areas of the ship and on the balconies. They charged for soda at lunch and for water at dinner. Almost everything came at an additional cost. I wish I had listened to all of the reviewers and hope that this will help you to avoid what we suffered. AVOID COSTA LIKE THE PLAGUE. Read Less

THE best parts of this seven day Geek island cruise, the wonderful food and the great staff in the Dinning room. A special thanks from our family to Natalie the English guest representitive, she went above and beyond her duties to help us. Cabin staff were uninvolved with us , unlike other cruises we have been on. We had an incident were one of our party was locked out of her cabin and after one hour and four people being asked to he[p she arrived at our cabin extremely upset. No apology or explanation was given in an event that was quite traumatic. Again attributaed to the lack of involvment of the cabin staff. We were really disappointed with this cruise line as it advertised itself as not really a family ship and they gave no discounts to children. I find this really hard to believe as this ship was full of families and young children along with strollers everywhere. Beautiful children that we loved but as an older group we were trying to get away from our own families and choose this ship because it stated it was not a family ship. The noise level on deck was unbelievable as all these families joined in the constant loud music and dancing. One could not find a place on deck to sunbathe and read a book or just have a normal conversation without shouting. If you want that do not choose this ship. I would like to thank them for helping us when our baggage was delayed and missed the ship complicated by the change of ports due to bad weather. Costa went out of its way to get our baggage to us. I am unsure if I would use Costa again or believe what they say in their advertising. Read Less

I took the MSC Lirica for a 8 day 7 night Mediterranean Cruise. It’s the worst money I ever spent. I was better off booking with another company. This is my first and last time I will ever book with them. This way my 16th Cruise any my second so far this year and it was a complete disappointment. Some of my issues with them were - [ ] We paid online for the drinks when we got to the boat they acted like they didn’t know what we were taking about - [ ] Someone entered my room while I was resting - [ ] The food served was sub par on the deck - [ ] We were ignored by staff when asking for basic things like a drink or refill - [ ] The food In the restaurant was sub par and salty - [ ] Excursions booked were ok but at times we were looking at nothing. When we visited Corfu we only got 15 min in an actual shopping district but we got half the day looking at boring sites. - [ ] The drink choices are minimal. There were lots of times with nothing to do on the boat. -The entertainment is lacking and when there was some or wasn’t geared towards American passengers as far as the language. -The staff seemed unfriendly and unorganized at times. -at times I fell like I was bothersome or being an inconvenience to the staff when asking for anything. Never again will I spend another dollar with MSC This was by far the absolute worst cruise experience I ever had. I compared this line to 3 other lines that I have taken and it’s sub par at its best compared to a most basic company on hospitality, friendliness, customer service, professionalism, guest interaction ,even guest activities and food and beverages. All I can do is warn my professional colleagues, friends and families to avoid MSC because apparently customer service does not drive your business or industry ans that became quite apparent after I stepped on board the Lirica. I'm pleased that we didn't read some of the previous reviews because we may not have booked this and then we would have missed out on an amazing time. The ship was brilliant - we were on the all-inclusive drinks package (part of the deal we picked up via a newspaper) and this entitled us to a very wide range of unlimited drinks , including cocktails and most spirits/liquers. Also a wide range of ice-creams. The buffet was open 20 hours a day for anyone concerned about portion sizes in the restaurant (we thought that they were fine and the quality was very good). We used the buffet for breakfast every morning and found the choice (and the view from the window) excellent. The staff through the cruise were all very friendly (and the 10 euro a person a day grat charge covers all tips - cabin, waiters etc - there is no need to tip again) All the trips and travelling went smoothly from the flights from Gatwick to Venice, to an amazing two night stay at Hotel Gabreili where we paid to upgrade our room to a lagoon view - well worth it (especially to see Poesia sail past our window!). We loved seeing Bari on our own - an easy 20-minute walk into the town and then a leisurely wander around - a lovely gentle first day. Olympia we took the tour to the site (just wished we'd agreed with the tour guide a time to meet her back at the site entrance and then we could have gone round at our own pace and not had to hear the commentary in English and French) The trip to Magna Grecia was fun (wine and olive tasting, a Greek plate and dancing Mykonos saw us on another guided tour - this time of the island, and then we were pleased to have some time in Mykonos town at the end. Athens was a 'cheat' - we have family living there so had our own personal tour guides. Albania - we took the coach trip headied 'Albanian Riviera' - mistake! If you have motion sickness this trip may not be for you! We hadn't realised that it involved long spells of driving through mountain roads (very twisty and turny) but the trip and stops were interesting. Dubrovnik on a Friday was very busy but we enjoyed time on our own getting a reasonably priced taxi there and back. And finally back to Venice for a few hours before our flight- we didn't realise that we could leave our bags at the boat, which would have been helpful, and instead took them to a luggage office Piazzale Roma and then got a taxi back to the airport.(worked fine but would probably have been easier to leave them at the ship) Would definitely go with MSC again (although we sometimes found it hard to get answers from them before we travelled) Read Less

We have done Celebrity and P&O before. Enjoyed both of them. We took two cabins as our 4 children were joining us. food was OK. Dubrovnik, Venice , Mykanos were good destinations, Sarande not worth getting off the boat for - dirty, full of beggars. Entertainment was comedically bad but became repetitive.Their musical version of Red Riding Hood consisted of lots of thrusting of sparkly codpieces. Truly awful experience with an aggressive vibe from several members of staff while on board. Many ignorant, many rude, a few stood out as very pleasant. Many could not communicate in English. One member of staff explained they were so short staffed they would bring mechanical labourers from below decks to work as wine waiters in the restaurant. Shambolic Main issue was early on the holiday overhearing the Photographic department manager make a racist comment in italian targeted at my two sons as they passed him. I challenged him and was given a weak denial. I advised him I would contact his manager. I did this the following morning. A half baked investigation took place and customer services told me he had provided them with a (totally different) explanation that they had decided to accept. Shame no-one bothered to check the CCTV. Contacted Customer services when back in the UK - only contactable by email. You will then receive an email by return telling you that that customer services will try to get back to within 28 days,,,,,Yes that's right 28 Days. Customer services repeated the vague conclusions given previously. Received the same 28 day email when I contacted them again. I was offered a discount if I booked another cruise I wouldn't propose to tell you how to spend your money. I would not go back if it was free. We choose this cruise for the Itinerary and wanted to try a new cruise ship other that what we have been on.To start getting on was no problem bags taken to our rooms except mine never turned up until four hours later as I had a travel iron in my case which is not allowed. The minute you get on the ship you are hassled to buy the drinks packages we explained numerous times we already had this.my husband went to the bar to order some soft drinks to be told we did not have the right card, eventually sorted by reception it was there mistake.Dining we was first sitting and seated in a nice area waiters seemed great until you order, they are so busy trying to look after so many tables we got forgotten about on numerous occasions for drinks. The food is average very small portions but other tables were ordering more than one starter and dinner.Entertainment is geared up for Italians very poor same thing most nights, shows were ok but the stage is so small they look cramped up together I kept looking to see if they were going to fall of the stage. Most night we ate at the buffet as the food was better than the dining area but this is like being fed at the zoo with people pushing and shoving to get at the food.Hygiene is hit and miss I have never seen so many people walk past the gel stations there to stop infection, including staff.Cleaning is not great on board buffet are is strewn with empty plates with the staff trying there best to keep on top of everything which was in possible. Don,t think the windows have ever been cleaned on the deck is littered with empty glasses most days. The pub area Lord Nelson is absolutely freezing you need to wear a jacket to keep warm this was the worst place to order drinks yet the quietest. What MsC don,t tell you is about the transfers to the ports of call as the ship is big it cannot dock near so you have to use the shuttle which you get a ticket for and pay at the end of the week. Most times it is much cheaper to get a local taxi than use there own.as sometimes you only on for five minutes.Dubrovnik was the worst 14 euros each taxi outside 12 euros for four people total rip off.The staff try there best it is just too busy for them to cope.Beware if you intend to use the gym there is a 20 minute curfew on all the equipment which is crazy as a runner it takes this time to warm up it clearly is not big enough for the amount of people on board. Disembarkation on the final day was the worst we have seen nobody knew were they should be we got separated from family and went to three exits to be told we were at the wrong place it took longer to get of the boat than to get on.Value for money its not great better ships to go on it is defiantly geared up for European customers. We booked this cruise as it fit our travel dates and destinations but what a MISTAKE! This cruise is really just for Europeans and rude ones at that. The cruise staff just did not seem happy at all. They were argumentative at times and did not want to hear your comments. We paid for the Aurea Package which was the "all inclusive" drinks etc. So we get on board and go to the bar to order a drink - sorry sir/madam you can only have water! So we have to go the reception desk and wait in line with a lot of other people who were having issues also with our paperwork which was lucky that I printed our before we left home. This clearly stating that we had the all inclusive package. Sorted - no. Go to a bar that night and order a cocktail and are told that this in not included in this drinks package - what part of all inclusive is this? Anyway go back to the reception desk and this time get the supervisor who informs us that there are 2 type of all inclusive - ours and a premium one. This girl was just so horrible that we left and went back to our cabin. In the morning we demanded to speak to her boss who was lovely and sorted this all our for us - The cabin on this ship was lovely - cannot fault that - the cabin steward kept it really clean and tidy and there is plenty of room to more around - Dining was not good at all. Food was generally served cold and not a very good menu. We have anytime dining but this is not actually true as most of the passengers had already booked their tables (in the prime spots) on the first night leaving the rest of us just getting whatever was left. It just seemed to be unfair. Entertainment was the worst and most ridiculous I have ever experienced. Most times we just walked out - once they had a man crawling around screaming. The service from our dining waiter and one of the bars was great as was our cabin steward but most other could not care less. You do not get served sitting at the tables you have to go the bars and order yourself. Its quite bad. The ports were also not that great. Seemed that this ship got the worst and further away from the docks. From the bus transport from Venice to the port should have been a warning sign for us - we were not told anything just follow the girl - this was a long way from the airport to the bus with our suitcases and several older people were really struggling. Then no communication = get to the port and we had to get our own luggage from the bus and once again walk it to the terminal. On other cruises this would have been done for you. Also, on the compulsory demo re the lifejackets - the staff on the boat did not enforce this at all - the announcements only came one and the only way we knew about it was we saw other people doing it. But this ship had to do this exercise 3 times as passengers just kept on ignoring. I would not recommend this cruise line at all - its basically aimed only at Italian and other Europeans. They make announcements in so many languages that it just goes on and one for ages and you forget what it was about in the first place. Read Less

We selected this cruise to introduce the cruise way of seeing countries to family members who never been on a ship before. This was an affordable way of seeing many places although we have seen some of the location already on a previous cruise. The fact that food is included makes it worthwhile. the cost of any drinks is however too high for us being used of paying more reasonable prices in our own country for soft drinks etc. The very long stay at Mykonos was not very well planned since there is not much to do apart from the short excursion. More time could have been granted at Dubrovnik for example to enjoy this fabulous city and areas. The food was good but not as good as on Sinfonia and less available during evenings. The shows was very good and enjoyable. Just not enough emphasize on English guests, we again were in the minority and felt left out in the entertainment on board. not enough done for English speaking guests. This will therefore probably be my last MSC cruise. Not enough space in gym. Read Less

I once traveled with SilverSeas, where everything was included – truly it was. Also, the food was very good and interesting. So that is what I have for comparison. The MSC was a cheaper cruise; so I took the top package offered – largest room and “Aurea” experience. As the sales person told me, you can have anything you want to eat and drink on the ship and go anywhere. Also, you can use your minibar in your room and have free room service. Turns out that isn’t true. Perhaps I did purchase the “top package,” but later I found out some food is extra and most of the drinks are extra. So if I wanted to get the “extras” package on top, that would be another $200/day. For example, I could have one “bar” vodka and one brand of beer, but the other 8 vodkas they had were extra and the other 9 beers were also extra. That is just an example. Also, the minibar was not included and room service was only for some rolls and horrible coffee in the morning – not regular meals. I did complain and was told it is unfortunate the person selling it to me didn’t understand it. There is nothing they WOULD do for me, except upsell me more, which is what everyone was constantly trying to do. I also found that annoying. SilverSeas was so much the opposite – no upselling things. I wasn’t sure what to expect with the food. The buffet was large and looked good, but the food was just edible and not delicious. There isn’t one thing I wanted to have again. They had bacon at breakfast, but it had no taste. How does one make bacon with no taste? I had read the best food is on the pool deck at the hamburger and pizza areas – they weren’t great, but were probably better. There are 2 main restaurants, but they all have the same menu - rather boring. I chose calamari. It came with veggies as in tempura, BUT was VERY greasy and cold. I didn't eat it. They wanted to bring me something else. I told them I don’t want anything - I was afraid to try anything else. So they made me a new one fresh anyway. The shrimp and calamari were now hot, but still very greasy. The veggies were still greasy and cold, so they didn't bother making them fresh. I was happy to know there was a sushi restaurant, too. But that wasn’t included. The coffee in the morning was hardly drinkable – a shocking surprise, considering it is an Italian cruise line. Luckily there is a coffee bar, where one can purchase decent coffee (although, luckily, that was included in our package). For the Aurea package there was a separate area in the regular dining room for breakfast from a menu that had fish. They never told us about it, so we missed it most of the cruise and only stumbled upon it the last 2 days. There, for example, I could get smoked salmon. We enjoyed having the coffee in the room and sitting on the balcony to enjoy the sea air. If we used room service, we had to pay extra for it, but if we bought it back ourselves, it was okay and “included.” But so many people smoke (it is not permitted on balconies, etc., but no one stops them), that all we can smell is smoke. Obnoxious. That also ruined our plan to leave the balcony door open to feel and smell the salt air and hear the water all night. I was rather surprised the windows everywhere were dirty. Again, my other experience was of clean windows. This includes dining rooms, our own suite, the gym, etc. It seems one of the most important things for a cruise ship to have clean windows for the guests to look out at things. Then there was the noise. SilverSeas attracts an older crowd dress up. This wasn’t the same. There were a lot of children running, screaming, yelling in the hallway and on balconies. The music around bars and on the pool deck was almost so loud, we couldn’t talk to each other. I suppose some people like that. Then there is the problem of getting on and off the ship. If one pays for the top tier, it seems those people should have priority for embarking and disembarking, but that wasn’t generally the case. There was some priority the first and last day, but not otherwise. Yet, families with kids and the staff were always sent to the front of the long lines. I was dreading the constant grouchy searches and pat downs required, since I have a metal knee. In each port we had to do it twice to get back on the ship. Once was in the port area after a long line and then a second time on the ship after another long line. It seems it should just be easier and more efficient. I guess I learned this isn’t the cruise line for me. I need very small ships (hundreds instead of thousands), so things just work out better. I left out the good, since that isn’t what stands out. Our dining room staff were efficient and friendly. Our room was kept clean (except for windows). Even the reception staff were friendly and efficient for the most part. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the great port calls; Italy, athens, olympia, Kotor, and Split. The destinations did not disappoint. They were fantastic and we avoided much of the crowds by cruising in the winter. Unfortunately, we did not have a chance to explore Venice before our cruise departed as Easyjet canceled the flight. Needless to say, we had to scramble to find alternative transportation to Venice and it cost us an extra day of travel. The embarkation and disembarkation was extremely smooth at Venice. We had no issues getting on the ship four hours before the departure. Customs was smooth and friendly and this was the easiest embarkation we have experienced. The Luminosa allows you to embark or disembark at any of the port calls but I'm unsure how smooth the process was at the other locations. Like other reviewers, we found the Luminosa to be average. Compared to other cruises, the food was disappointing. Mainly pasta dishes and you pay extra for the dishes that are included on other cruises such as steak and lobster. Costa cruise lines charges extra for things like coffee, bottled water, ice cream, and even pizza. We found the layout of the cruise ship to be very similar to other cruise lines of this size. Spa on the 9th floor near the front of the ship, cafeteria style dining on the ninth floor, restaurant on the 2nd floor, casino, bars, etc. Our classic cabin with a balcony was nice; easily accommodating two adults and two children. The cabin was well insulated but we did hear some children running in the cabin above us. Thankfully, no issue with neighbors that smoke. The kids club seemed fine. My nine year old only went a few times but there didn't seem to be any language barriers. The teen club, however, was given over for infant space. As a result, the teens didn't really have a place to hang out and they would meet on various parts of the ship. It was a poor compromise and our teenage daughter, whom usually likes the teen club, chose not to participate on this cruise. It is apparent the crew is overworked. We were told they work 13 hour days for nine months without a day off. Our steward was responsible for around 20 cabins and it showed. Although hard working and friendly, you could tell the staff was stressed. Also, be prepared for lots of Italians and a lack of personal space and no regard for queues. Of course, this happens with other nationalities as well. Also, the announcements must have been in at least three languages which got tedious after a while. We did not attend any of the entertainment options but other passengers had good reviews for the nightly entertainment. All in all, we had a good cruise thanks to the port calls. Costa Luminosa has the potential to be a great cruise ship. Unfortunately, the quality of the food and overworked staff prevent the experience from rising to the next level. I would recommend the ship to those who are excited about visiting European ports and the timing works or the Luminosa price is significantly less than the competitors. Otherwise, it would be wise to consider other cruise ships. Read Less

I chose this cruise because of the itinerary mostly. Even though I had heard negative comments for Costa, I thought I might try it. No cruise line is perfect. There was a slight language barrier, but that was to be expected. It was an Italian ship. The food was HORRIBLE. Everything was extra. Everything on the ship was in other languages, so it was difficult to participate. Children were allowed EVERYWHERE. There was not a place to get away from them. Even bars and casinos! We bought an expensive drink package. It was very difficult to get a drink. Servers were very nice and accommodating, but still difficult to get a cocktail. Kids would be sitting at the bar. Apparently, that's ok for the Italians. I did not care for that one bit. I did not see a buffet after 8 pm. You could not really get food (and several nights the dinner was so disappointing, I didn't eat much of it) unless you PAID for it. Are you kidding me? An ice cream cone was 1.50 Euro. We really enjoyed our costa cruise out of Barcelona 2 years prior to this one but this was a big disappointment. It started with the company charging us $100.00 just to put our friends names on the tickets that we bought, the travel company put our names on both cabins but no information was even entered. Anyway, they charged for everything right down to ping pong balls to play a game. We bought the drink package, but it took forever to get a drink, bartenders played games with the guests, ignoring them while cleaning up the bar, I guess they were looking for more tips. The staff was friendly but there wasn't much motivation to work since they already had their tips paid. Food was good and our waiter was excellent in the evening for dinner but the breakfast and lunch was miserable! It took forever to be served and the choices were very limited. We have been on many cruises and we enjoy it a lot but never again on Costa. We aren't that picky or demanding but this was very disappointing from previous cruises. There wasn't much in the way of entertainment, no trivia, or sports events. The room was kept at 75 degrees, so at night it was too warm so we had to keep the door open. My husband keep asking for them to check on the air conditioning but they said that was the lowest it would go down to. We had a mini suite so it was a good size and we were able to board earlier then everyone else, thank goodness because the lines were SO long to board. They said 2 hours to get our luggage but it turned into 5. I had a tray of drinks spilt on me and nothing to change into for 4 hours, quite a sticky wet four hours to wait. It just seemed like a bus going around, dropping people off and picking them up at different stops, we had a good time but we won't go with Costa again. Read Less

This was our first cruise ever; we didn't knew what to expect, but it was all very good and it won't be the last cruise we make. More than enough space on the ship. You don't notice that there are more than 2.000 guests on board. Nice room (inside cabin 1248). Friendly personel, enough place on deck to find a nice/silent spot to sit in the sun. The food is good; for dinner you can choice for a luxury dinersetting on deck 2 or self-buffet on deck 9. When having dinner on deck 2 (restaurant Taurus), it takes sometimes a bit longer to finish dinner and therefore coming to late for the entertainment in the theater. Every evening we got the daily program for the next day in our cabin. We were with the two of us. You can see than Costa cruises are interesting for family's with children, because there were quit a lot of them. Not many older people. After reading previous reviews I was slightly worried what to expect from this ship but I was pleasantly surprised. I went on this cruise with my partner for 6 nights to Greece and Italy. We got on the ship at Bari. Embarkation went very smoothly and quick. The ship itself was smaller to what I have previously been on but still a good size. It was clean all over and comfortable. There was a range of activities everyday such as quizzes, dancing and games. The service was amazing all the staff were friendly, polite and very hardworking I couldn't fault it. The cabin was very spacious and we were upgraded to an outside cabin. We had the early dining time of 7.30pm which suited us well. The food was really good and the service was amazing. The show in the evening was good. As the ship is Italian it was the first language and very italian centered and mainly italians on board. The ports we visited were all beautiful places but some were very busy due to several cruise ships in port on the same day. Disembarkation was easy and straightforward. I do prefer English speaking cruises but still enjoyed it. Overall we had a lovely time and it was excellent value for money. Read Less

We´ve chosen this cruise to sail for first time. We were looking for a well rated cruise and not very expensive, and we found this cruise. The embarkation and the disembarkation were very smooth. The ship was really big compared with other ships! The excursions were very good, we bought some tickets for the shuttle bus to Dubrovnik. The cabin was very comfortable and modern. The entertainment was very varied, you could do yoga or swim. The kids had a lot of fun in the clubs. In the Teen Club, Musi Santos was very kindly to us. The service was very good, they clean the cabin twice per day. The Buffet was great, but the waiters were very slow. We´ve traveled with children, and they loved the cruise. They made friends and had fun. Every day they ask me "When are we going to a cruise?" We hope that we can sail in other cruise again. Read Less

My husband and I took this cruise as part of our honeymoon. I strongly recommend taking any other cruise line other than MSC Cruises. They are a nightmare company to work with. My husband and I are from Canada and we travel all over the world and really have had no major complaints in our travels except for MSC. Spend a little extra money and stay clear of the MSC Poesia. The food was mediocre (and we are not picky...) The entertainment staff was super inappropriate. They oftentimes took advantage of Japanese passengers at their expense (they didn't understand much English and the entertainment staff would make rude comments about them when they would participate) My husband and I were disgusted and didn't participate in any of the daily activities...where we usually would be the first ones up there. Really the only time we had fun was when we were OFF the ship. We stayed off the ship for the max amount of time. After departing the cruise... our luggage was really badly damaged. We disembarked in Venice (what a huge inconvenience to have a broken suitcase in Venice with their cobblestone streets) We retrieved the proper documentation for our ruined luggage and sent it to MSC when we returned home. It has been over 9 months and we have not been properly reimbursed for our damaged property. It has been a nightmare and a constant run around. We are continually promised someone will contact us, but again and again the customer service sector continues to dodge us. If this is how MSC handles their business I would strongly discourage people from going through the same experience as us. We have been on multiple other cruise lines and had a BLAST! Read Less

I don´t recommend Costa Deliziosa to any body. This cruise reminded us of Azamara with whom we have often sailed. Boarding and disembarkation was smooth, efficient and fast. We had a very comfortable windowed cabin with plenty of storage. The shower and bathroom were small but adequate. There was a good range of in room DVD entertainment with well informed TV schedule. We enjoy good food and great service and would rate both of these at 10 out of 10 on Nautica. Staff were professional yet friendly and always had a smile. For such a small ship the evening entertainment/shows were excellent. We loved the ports...Alicante, Alcudia, Palermo, Livorno (where we chose to do a private trip by train to the stunning Medi-evil walled city of Lucca. Our return trip cost 11Euro per person). Marseilles was our final port of call. The ship was well furnished and attractive. The whole experience was so good we have booked 2 more cruises with Oceania in the new year and look forward to building our loyalty points with an excellent cruise line. BRILLIANT. Read Less

We cruised from Bari to Olympia, Piraeus, Santorini, Kotor, Corfu and Venice. The weather was perfect late June and the ship was not overly crowded. We found the service excellent, particularly the restaurant and bar staff who were mostly Balinese. The services were well organised, the food was good quality and varied and the ship was clean and in good condition. The shows during the evening were amazing with dancers, gymnasts and singers of a very high standard. We enjoyed the 7 days and would certainly recommend the cruise. Read Less

Not sure what all those people writing negative reviews were expecting. The main criticisms I had come across were:- 1.Too many kids on board. Firstly let me start by saying that if I was cruising without children, which I have done on various occasions, I would not choose MSC. Clearly the ships and prices - free kids - are aimed at families and so there are lots of kids on board. If you don't want a cruise surrounding by kids, then don't go with MSC and then you won't have to moan about the amount of kids on board - horses for courses!! 2.Unfriendliness/inefficiency of staff. I could not have found them any more friendly and/or efficient. 3. Entertainment - I would say without question that the shows were the best I have seen - have been with RCI which I thought were the best - before I had been on this cruise and NCL which I thought was average. Ironically, the only thing that let on e of the shows down was a "professional" opera singer, rather than the crew ensemble. The animation team during the day and evening were brilliant too. 4. Food - the buffet was excellent and varied - always hot. On the sea day, it was a bit of a scrum, but in fairness you tend to get that on any ship. The food in the main dining room was not was good as on other cruise ships and if you are not from the Mediterranean, the amount of courses can be a bit confusing, but you can order as many courses as you like. A small point is that you are not offered tea or coffee at your table after the meal 5. Announcements in numerous languages - can't be helped - you're on holiday chill out and go with the flow!! The pools were excellent and we always managed to get a sunbed or chairs around the pool without too much trouble. Cabins were modern comfortable. Ship was beautiful - a little difficult to navigate initially, but eventually got the hang of it. Take the drinks package - we had the allegrismo - great value for money. My main criticism was the lack of time on shore. It was the itinerary that attracted me to the cruise, but I should have checked before booking the amount of time ashore - my fault. However, means that I will go back to Venice and Dubrovnik under my own steam for a long weekend Couple of things to beware of. If you are taking a taxi to get to the old town in Dubrovnik - it is a scrum - with no -one organising who takes which taxi - if you can't beat them, join them and don't be pushed around. Give yourself a minimum of an hour to get back to the ship. On the whole great cruise with lots of lovely memories. Read Less

Our family of 5 went on the mediterranean cruise with Costa, an Italian Cruise Line. We live in Italy and are in the process of learning Italian. We have lived in Europe and the UK for the last 14 years and always learned the language of the country. We realized this was an Italian Cruise Line and were assured that we would be accommodated in English just as the other non-Italian passengers (Deutsch, Spanish, Asian etc.). This was our first time taking a cruise. Our primary language is English, but we can get by in other languages. We had 2 cabins, one with a balcony (BP) and one without a balcony/or window (IC). The room without was obviously on the 'darker' and smaller side since it also had no window. We will not book one of those again as it is what it is and we simply didn't like it. The room with the balcony was nice, spacious and without complaint. The ship was beautiful and MOST of the crew was courteous, but not all; specifically some of the excursion desk attendants and the bar attendants taking orders in the food areas and theater. We witnessed several incidents of servers, taking bar orders, be rude in their actions and even yell at the passengers who were trying to place an order. In two instances, it was uncalled for and in the other, while it could've been justified, it was still highly unprofessional behavior and terribly unacceptable. Above all, we feel that when you treat others with respect, they will be respectful in return. However, It is well known that you will have those who do their jobs well and those who will still need redirection, encouragement and customer-service training. Moving on, we had fun participating in activities and loved the shows--the one put on by the crew was excellent!! The breakfast and lunch buffets were good but after five days, it all begin to taste the same. We quite enjoyed dinner--loved tasting dishes from the areas we were visiting! :D So, as I've said, there were things we enjoyed, but unfortunately, the things that we did not appreciate (listed below) highly outweighed the things we liked and as a result, we do not plan to cruise with Costa again. 1) Until three days into the trip, we did not know to watch the cruise channel on the TV or to read the 'Today' brochure in order to know what was going on each day (activities, dinner dress code, shows, etc.). It would've been very helpful to have an orientation, especially since it was our first ever cruise, to know all of this on the first day. I will say that as soon as we boarded, we had a safety-practice fire drill. Afterwards, an announcement sent us to deck 5 for an orientation, but once there, we were told we didn't need to be there. It was rather disorganized and it took three cruise attendants to decide that we didn't need to be there. It could be that we DID need to be there. In any case, it needed to be better organized. 2) Sometimes, the lines for food could be long and my husband had stood and waited through the whole line. When he was up to get his food, the cook began to take up the utensils and remove the food trays, which still contained plenty of food. It didn't matter how long people had waited or that some had not been served, it was 'time' to close up so he started doing that. This was extremely unacceptable. We have already PAID for our food and then had to stand in a long line to get it & once there to do so, was removed. Again, there was still plenty of food, but he was removing it nonetheless. My husband did get a supervisor & was allowed to get his food, but it left a very displeasing 'taste'. It should never have happened. This was the burger line out by the pool. 3) If you bought an excursion and it did not have enough English-speaking people going on it, they cancelled it. The deal breaker was that they also refused to refund your money. You could either choose another excursion for that port or lose your money. This happened to another English-speaking companion of ours aboard ship. Some of the attendants at the excursion desk were friendly, some were not. Another issue was if you wanted to go ashore but not as part of the cruise excursion. Instead of having passengers pick up numbers to de-board the night before, they did it all the morning of and it was rather a chaotic process. Of course, the excursions left first. Simultaneously, people were scurrying to get numbers to go ashore. Once you obtained your 'ticket', you had to wait for your number group to be called in order to go ashore. As a result, while we should've had 5 hours in a port, we ended up with maybe 2-3 hours. That was very disappointing. We did buy one excursion during the cruise and it was rushed the entire time. We were herded through the village at Santorini (which actually was just up & back down one alleyway before basically returning to the bus) and once in Thira, we more or less spent the entire time standing in the LONG line to get on the cable car to go back to the ship. Again, rather disappointing--not Santorini, but the logistics of the excursion. Granted, we do try to consider that there are some things beyond the control of the cruise ship. 4) Every day a 'Today' brochure was put in the cabin so we would know what to expect for the next day (thankfully, we figured that out!) On Sunday, with two days left in our cruise, we were not given a brochure for the next day. We asked our cabin attendant about it and were referred to the information desk because he had not received one for us. Upon addressing the matter with the information desk, we were literally told 'there are not enough english-speaking people left on board to print a brochure in English". We paid for the cruise, including the last two days. Never did payment hinge on whether there were enough 'English-speaking' passengers. We approached this situation for a second time and were basically told the same thing but in a much nicer way. We paid for the cruise experience, for two cabins and were charged 8 Euro per person per day of the cruise...to include the last two days of the cruise. Yet, regardless of the fact that we paid for those last two days of the cruise, not only did they neglect and refuse to give us a daily brochure of activities/excursions/dress code/shows/etc. based upon their own admission, the number of English-speaking passengers aboard but they also quit making any announcements in English. The last two days were not enjoyable as we were never quite sure what was going on. We were highly displeased and it was a blatant act of discrimination. Regardless of the number of English-speaking (or any other language) passengers aboard, if there are any, should be valued and given every amenity that they have already paid for in order to be on board. 5) A huge disappointment, in general, was that while in different countries, we were not given the option/excursion of experiencing the place. Everything was touristy. For example, we stopped in three different places of Greece and never got to experience greek dancing or plate breaking. Of course, we want to see the 'highlights' (touristy stuff), but we would first choose the option to experience authentic cultural things while there. The best would be to combine the cultural and touristy. Granted, it is not always possible, but it is definitely something to consider and offer. Read Less

Let me Just start off by saying that i never write reviews, but i felt i just had to because MSC Fantasia Deserves a lot more Credit then it gets.We bought Our cruise before reading the reviews on cruise critic and the reviews had a lot of negative things said about it. It made me regret at first with booking with MSC but in all honesty I am so happy I did. EMBARKATION: we Embarked in Bari,Italy and it went very Smooth. We had our luggages ready with our tags (that was given to us when booking online) Dropped it off with the luggage check in and was told to go to the Passenger Check in. we Checked in so Quickly without a long wait or long lines and was on the ship ten minutes after arriving at the port. So Fast and so easy. ROOM: We had a Interior room or inside Cabin. We Looked at the rooms on MSCs website and thought it looked small, but the room is way Bigger than expected. We had our 5 month old Daughter with us. so we had a lot of stuff with us and it all fit in the Cabin and still had a lot of space:) she had her Pack n Play bed (which was Provided by the ship) and stroller out in the room and we still had walking room :) It Came with a Small fridge, safe and a lot of Closet space. The Television was also great and though there was just a few channels in english they always played some good tv shows! The inside cabins are also decorated beautifully and always kept clean by the Room Attendants. The Turn Down Service was always great and we never ran into them cleaning our room. We did always see them in the Hallways and they always made sure to greet us and tell us to have a great day!The Bonus was the Breakfast room service delivery. You get a new Card every night, Mark what you want to eat with the time you want it delivered and a fresh, free, delicious breakfast is delivered to your room every morning yum! The Shower is small so if you Have a Baby like us it may be a little difficult to bathe them. We just Brought a inflatable tub and bathed her in that. They also provide Big Canisters of Shampoo and Body wash that they make sure to keep full throughout your stay. So if you do not have to have a particular shampoo the ones provided in the Cabin is great and smells good! SHIP: The Whole Ship is simply Stunning. Always Clean and Decorated Beautifully. The Ship is Huge with a ton of seating areas by the Bars and by the Pools. **STAFF!!- one of the most Negative Parts with ALL the reviews i read about MSC, is the Staff. Saying that they are rude, mean, not helpful , and cant understand or speak a lot of english. I just want to say that this is NOT TRUE! From Start to finish every Staff member working for Msc Fantasia was so sweet. They especially loved our Daughter and loved to play and talk to her. Every Staff member we seen would always say hello or how are you? with a big smile! English was not their first language but they spoke it pretty darn good to me. From our room Cleaners to the waiters everyone was so nice and positive. Making our MSC experience the best experience. Honestly the Staff is the reason why we want to sail with Msc Again because they were such a joy to be around. Especially our Waiters EDIN and ERIK! thanks guys! :) RESTAURANTS: The Second most reviewed part of MSC Fantasia was the Buffet and Main Dining room. I have to say the buffet and main dining room was the best! Another highlight of our Cruise. The Buffet Had a great delicious Variety of food that was changed everyday. The Food was very good. It does get Crowded in the buffet but its not " push and shove packed" like other reviewers say. Honestly what Buffet isn't Crowded? The Main Dinning room we was Assigned to was the Chercho D'oro MDR and the food was Epic!. you are served a 7 Course Dinner that changes every night. Each Course was equally Beautifully Plated, Prepared and Tasted Delicious! My Husband is One of the Pickiest eaters i've ever met and he loved the food from both the buffet and MDR. He still Talks about how much he misses the food. The Highlight of our Dinner experience was our Waiters Edin and Erik from Chercho D'Oro They are so Friendly and always Greeted us with a smile and took the time out to get to know us and our daughter who loved them just as much too. They (and their fellow workers) worked non stop delivering course after course to every table so taking the time out to have a conversation with us meant a lot! SPA: The staff like the rest of the ship was kind and sweet. Always greeting Passengers with a smile. It is decorated beautifully. The sauna, Steam baths and relaxation rooms was great and not filled with people. and the Awesome Massage and facial was a bonus too! Great relaxing escape for this new mommy! DISEMBARKATION: Was Just as quick as Embarkation as soon as they let you off the ship, your off so quick and easy! Overall MSC Fantasia was a Memorable, and Fun Cruise even with Our 5 Month old Daughter. we would Sail again with this Cruise line. We started Planning our next msc cruise before finishing our first one. Thats how much Fun we had. the only complaint that we had was the elevators. They were always Jam packed with passengers which made it hard for us with a stroller, but inconsiderate elevator Passengers is not msc its the Passengers haha. Give MSC Fantasia a Chance if your read bad reviews about them. You make your experience memorable but they sure did help with the experience. Thank you MSC! Read Less

I was onboard this amazing ship in august 2013; we visited some Greek Islands (Santorini, Corfù, Katakolon), the Greek capital, Athens, with the marvelous Pantheon and, then, Dubrovnik and finally the romantic Venice. We arrived at Bari by car (from Naples) the embarkation day, using a private parking. Then, we waited for 1 hour in the lounge room to embark. the embarkation was quite quick; the staff very friendly. The ship has arrived on time in every port, I cannot tell anything about excursion since we didn't make any; we preferred to do by ourselves. But we took the shuttle bus in Athens to reach the center, it was finally a good idea and not so expensive (we were very careful about the expenses since we are five - 2adults and 3 children). the activities were well explained on the daily program; we received a lot of information in cabin (maybe too much, sometimes I was not able to read everything). On the ship we enjoyed a real luxury, the staff was very polite and the entertainment team was excellent! Very good food, exclusive shows and cabins very cleaned! We had a housekeeping staff very careful; the cabins was cleaned twice a day, but, if I requested a further cleansing, they were available and very kind. My children were at miniclub, very organised and with a lot of activities, from drawing to dance, a masterchef session (they got a pizza!!) and a show in the theatre! During the show, they projecting their pictures made during the entertaining time! Very touching.... During the dinner time at main restaurant, food was really very good! There, maybe the service was a little bit slow....In the evening it was very nice to follow the thematic nights, for example, or the dancing on the pool! you can choose what you prefer, the lounge with 70s-80s music; the disco (for younger...but also not!!) The disembarkation was very easy; we received a tag of a dedicated color in order to follow the schedule; everything was very fast. At the end, I can say it was a fantastic experience! I'll come onboard again!! Thank you MSC Fantasia!! Looking forward to sailing again with you! Read Less
