the embarkation and disembarkation where terrible... the staff is rude ando don't help you in any way. The ship is beautiful, the cabins are very confortable. you have to make a line to enter the restaurant every night. The food is Ok... small portions and always cold. our waitress was very nice. The shows were bad except for the cirque du Soleil with I truly recommend. The staff has no preparation, the staff doesnt help you in anyway. everything is a problem. the children had fun, but there is no way to know where they are or anyway to have comunication with them, since the app doesn't apply to them for being under age.i had to return twice a bracelet they sell you to know where you children are, the bracelets never worked. you have to pay for everything on orboard, even on New Years eve there was NO hats or anything unless you 70 euros. No I would NOT go again Read Less

We chose this cruise because we were told that the cruise was the same as all of the carnival cruises we have taken. They were not even close! My husband and I actually lost weight on this cruise because as it turns out the dairy products on the cruise are UHT (dairy) not pasteurized and as it turns out we had to have salads for most of our meals as it was the only thing I was not allergic to. Anything besides American brewed coffee has to be paid for which is outrageous. The little entertainment onboard is horrible, it was limited to opera and boring-ass attempts at a Cirque Du Soleil type show! The few activities onboard are things like origami art which is limited to 50 people. The majority of the staff sucks! The passengers were very rude and had no manners! No proper info on excursions, no shuttle buses available to take you to the entrance to ports! The company has a million announcements daily trying to sell you packages. I would not take another MSC Cruise even if the company paid me to do so. the ship was a floating hotel picking up passengers and dropping passengers off at almost every port. All and all we have been on many, many cruises and this by far is the worst experience we have ever encountered. I can honestly say that MSC a We saved for 2 years for this vacation and we are truly disappointed. I will be filing a claim with the better business bureau. Basically, this has been the worst vacation of our lives! We actually could not wait for the cruise to be over! Whilst the ship was very clean and nice cabins, other aspects destroyed our experience. The restaurant was appalling on all visits over the 11 days. As eating is a big part of cruising, it ruined our cruise. The restaurant management were unhelpful and we walked out 3 times as totally disappointed. Never again will I board a MSC cruise ship. The music noise on the open decks were too much so could not relax. The bars were always busy so difficult to find any seating at some times. The public interior areas were kept very clean.Toilets sometimes blocked. The "selling" was OTT with shop discount notifications over the PA, bingo ticket sellers going around the many decks. The disembarkation procedure a bit chaotic. As regular cruisers on many other lines, this was our worst experience. We did not go to any shows so cannot comment but other cruisers spoke positively of the shows. Read Less

This was our second trip with Norwegian and we were very disappointed with this ship. I won't go into all the details but... this is definitely a budget cruise. The ship is old and showing it's age. Dirty carpets and chairs and lots of rust. Rooms are tiny. We had a mid-ship room with a balcony and it was crazy small. The layout of the ship is poor. The boat is HUGE and with that many passengers, it becomes a challenge just to walk around. The ship feels like a budget casino. They make you walk through the casino to get anywhere and don't open many bars/restaurants forcing you to go to ones closer to the casino. The staff was not great. Felt like many staff members were new or just burnt out. Didn't seem like they wanted to be there at all. We went on the Norwegian Star last year and got spoiled. Not sure but think the ship is much smaller and newer. This experience was a big disappointment. Read Less

This is my third time to cruise with Norwegian and it was the worst experience ever, I couldn’t find anything positive about my 7-Day Western Mediterranean from Barcelona trip. The staffs were not friendly, food choices were limited and taste was below average, nothing to do on the ship and the room set up was lock of common sense, for example, they put a sink on outside table so when u use the sink, it was very easy to splash water all over the counter. The TV set was on the top shelf so u had to raise your head to watch tv, after awhile, your neck hurts. The shore excursions were very expensive, we paid $160 p.p. just for the transportation between the port and going to Rome. It was a very expensive cruise because we also had to fly from L.A. to Barcelona and stay at the hotel to get ready, we would NEVER do any European cruise again. It was a huge disappointment and we will are done with Norwegian as well. Read Less

I chose this cruise because I am a former employee of NCL. Having worked at sea on the SS Norway in the early 80's I have always had an allegiance to NCL. It was awful the ship was dirty. The embarkation was terrible. The public bathrooms were filthy. The ladies restroom outside of the epic theater was disgusting. I was horrified and mentioned it to an officer I saw as I was exiting. During the mandatory drill on the first day I actually saw and heard crew members making fun of the passengers who were asking them where there life boat stations were located. Perhaps they need to be reminded that it is because of the guests that purchase these vacations that they have jobs. Food was awful. Plates were chipped. The only good meal was on one the specialty restaurants. The windows were dirty. The ship had many areas where you could see rust. Read Less

Previously sailed on the Epic twice, this was the third time but never again. The standard of the Haven facilities have seriously deteriorated, whilst the cabins areof a very high standard, the facilities and added luxury have demised. On previous sailings the Haven had certain parts of the ship that accommodated smokers One being in the posh bar where you could have a relaxing drink and a cigarette the other being on the top deck. When we went to the posh bar we where told that this facility had been stopped and you were not allowed to smoke in either areas. We actually booked this cruise because it had smoking facilities and would not have Paid £6000+ to be told that if we wanted to smoke we had to leave the Haven and go Into the main part of the ship to smoke. The main part of the ship had two smoking areas One on deck 15 and one in the 02 bar. On asking why the facility had been stopped In the Haven areas none of the management could give as to why. So we advise any one who enjoyed a cigarette on their cruise do not go to the expense of booking the Haven save £3000 and go in the normal part of the ship NCL NEED TO STATE THAT ON THE EPIC HAVEN THERE ARE NO SMOKING IN THE HAVEN The food in the Haven was very mundane, the same menu every night so we went to the other restaurants on board. The night we had steak in the Haven restaurant my husband couldn’t eat his on complaining he was told it must have been the supplier and did offer an additional meal We only ate once for breakfast, because most mornings the breakfast was only served Until 9am, we like to stay out at night on holiday and think breakfast should be offered until 10am at least, again in the main part of the ship you could have breakfast till 11.30 So once again your better off not booking the expensive Haven. The ship itself was beautiful, food and service was absolutely horrible from the Epic. There were so many administrative errors in terms of billing and credit card authorizations (including unauthorized charges to our rooms) that we had 3 families (rooms) spending at least 12 to 16 hours over at guest services correcting these errors. They absolute worse was my cabin was flooded the whole week resulting in mould! I had to take prednisone during the trip because my lungs were in very bad shape as a result of the moisture and mould. My other sister had to take out a round of antibiotics as soon as we left the boat and landed on Barcelona.  I don’t think I can ever recommend Norwegian. Really disappointed that our families spent combined over 60K on this trip and we would have had a better experience on a 3 star cruise like carnival or a 5 star Mexican resort. Truly disappointed.  too much $$ spent on such a 1 Star travel experience.   I would like to file a formal complaint with Norwegian.   Thank you,  Read Less

If you have a choice between NCL and another company, choose the other company. I have been on 5 cruises now and this one was by far the worst. The staff were very unhappy and hated their jobs. If there was a word that was worse than “garbage” to describe the food at the buffet and free dining areas (Manhattan and Taste), I would use it. I have summarised the experience in detail below. Service - unenthusiastic, unhappy, rude staff We boarded the ship at Barcelona (14th - 21) and headed straight to Shakers, the martini where we were greeted by an unhappy, unenthusiastic bartender that looked like he hated his job (common theme amongst the staff around the whole cruise). No smiles, no hello’s, not even a name introduction in the formal dining areas. Additionally, I was appalled with the service at the pool bar...where I asked for a simple “blue lagoon” cocktail and the bar tender responded with “that’s just a pina collada” and then refused to make the drink for me. Overall, the staff on every deck were either unhappy, unenthusiastic or rude. Food - Horrendously bad (microwaved, store-bought sludge) Calling 90% of the food “food” would be misleading and deceptive. I’m glad from reading a lot of the reviews below that I’m not alone. At the buffet, the eggs are best described as yellow dyed pieces of rubber or milky sludge and the meat resembled overcooked road kill. At Manhattan and Taste, the meals tasted like frozen TV dinners. If I wanted to pay for reheated frozen reheated meals, I would have ordered weightwatchers. Additionally they were terrible at managing dietary requirements (see below). Dietaries - unorganised, clueless and constantly said they couldn’t help because “food was prepared outside” The staff were also clueless on how to deal with our simple dietary requirements. I am anaphylactic to walnuts meaning that getting my dietary correct is very important. Additionally, my boyfriend is vegan (which we let NCL know when we booked months in advance) but he nevertheless wasn’t expecting any special treatment other than there being 1 or 2 options. When we first got to our rooms, we received a letter that our dietaries had been confirmed by the staff and that were able to accomodate which we were happy with. However, when we went to the dining areas we were always met with “this food was prepared by another company so we cannot confirm it meets your dietary requirements”. At Manhattan, my boyfriend asked if there was anything that could be made vegan on the menu (there was nothing on the menu at the time) and the waiter offered him the steak without sauce... that’s right he was offered a steak for his dietary requirement. We didn’t expect NCL to go out of there way to accomodate us but we expected more than being told that they couldn’t confirm anything and my boyfriend especially expected to not be offered steak when he stayed multiple times that he is vegan and confirmed it months prior to embarkation. Scams - free money scam and spa scams If anyone from NCL is reading this, free money means money is given for nothing in return. Giving you a deposit for a future cruise and you giving back onboard credit is not free money. Please look up the definition of free and adjust this scam marketing ploys title accordingly. Additionally, my boyfriend had apparently “won” a second spa raffle (there was no public raffle for this mysterious second raffle) where he was offered a discount on acupuncture services. Instead of paying 600 they offered it at 480 (wow we won a discount!). The only thing separating NCL from your average hawker on the streets of any European city is that NCL hawks on a boat. Activities - boring if you are under the age of 65 Shows were okay (howl at the moon were good). That’s about as far as the good activities go. For some reason (making money) you had to pay for a lot of activities that are usually free on other cruises. The “free” activities they did have made me feel like I was in a retirement village or an infomercial. Would have been nice if more time was spent on the actual activity then being sold something whether it be photos, spa packages and other cruises. Positives The gym and their staff were the only good thing about the ship. We did meet some friendly staff here and there, however this was an unlikely occurrence. Read Less

We had looked forward to a wonderful vacation, visiting great places with friends. The ports of call did not disappoint but the Norwegian Epic was an 'epic' failure. We have traveled extensively and we know that not everything can go right, but we are baffled at how Norwegian Cruise Lines stays in business. We were looking forward to letting everyone know of the great cruise we had but unfortunately that's not the case. Here are the highlights (lowlights): 1. Food at the buffet breakfast was the same EVERY day. Horrible. One day I took a plastic cup for orange juice and there was lipstick on it. Awful !!! The sit-down restuarants were good but service was often very slow. Cagney's and La Cucina were the exception - they were very good and servers were very friendly and attentive. 2. The adult pool was incredibly small - any more than 10 people was a crowd - and we could never find a deck chair in that area. Very poor. 3. On our excursion to Pisa and Florence, the tour guide insulted my wife and then proceeded to tell stories about Asian tourists in Florence. Very rude and can't believe Norwegian would contract with companies that hire this type of employee. 4. On the final day of our cruise, there was a gasoline spill on deck 15. Fumes were released into the ventilation system. My wife and I awoke to the fumes. My wife became light-headed and nauseated. I tried calling the Medical Center but no one answered the phone. I called the operator and was told that "they are aware of it. Guests should leave their room or go out onto the balcony for fresh air". I proceeded to take my wife to the Medical Center where we we greeted very rudely by the receptionist who offered my wife Tylenol but wanted us to pay for it!! She was still not feeling well so we were taken to an examining room where a nurse and doctor examined her, took an xray, EKG and bloodwork. All tests thankfully were negative but the experience was horrible. I went to the cruise desk to discuss the situation and was eventually taken to discuss what happened with the General Manager Nelson Martins. He was very sympathetic to what happened and promised to let me know the outcome of his investigation. I spoke to him later in the day and he met us in the Taste restaurant. He provided a letter explaining that if we wished to pursue the issue further, we could contact NCL Guest Relations. Gee, thanks! We can now spend countless hours on the phone with NCL Guest Relations, write letters and in the end maybe get a small credit towards a future cruise. Thanks, but not going to waste my time. We wouldn't consider cruising on NCL ever again anyway. 5. The ship in general feels very overcrowded. There is very limited space for quiet relaxation on deck. The staff was overall not friendly and most of the time we did not feel that we were welcome on the ship. 6. The layout of the stateroom was awful. Toilet area separate from the shower and basically exposed to the entire cabin with no attempt in the design for privacy. Storage was minimal and somewhat hidden. We found some cabinets above the bed on our last morning while packing to go home. The curved couch was not only uncomfortable but basically not usable for seating since it is very narrow. The person who designed the room should be fired. 7. We discovered that some elevators did not stop at Deck 5. This was very inconvenient and was not at all marked on the ship. 8. As part of our 'deal', we received the Ultimate Beverage Package. It included soda, juice, wine, and other alcohol drinks with top shelf liquor. The only thing it didn't include was WATER !!! Norwegian is happy to get you sloppy drunk but if you are interested in staying hydrated and healthy after touring some cities during July summer heat, sorry - you need to BUY bottled water. I understand cruise ships have limited space and bottled water can take up a lot of storage area but you would think a multi-million dollar corporation would be able to figure this out and provide water to its customers. VERY POOR. 9. We would rate our overall experience at a 3 on a scale of 1 (very poor) to 10 (excellent). The only reason the rating would be that high would be because of the ports of call and all they had to offer. If we had to rate the NCL Epic and its staff, the rating would be a 1. This is a wonderful part of the world to experience - we would just recommend not using NCL as your cruise line. Read Less

We booked an Edge Villa suite as a treat for me after my illness and instead of being spoilt we were constantly frustrated. We could not use the “exclusive to suites retreat pool and spa” on day 2 as they were filming to promote the ship until 9 pm. No-one ( even our Butler) apparently knew about it and we only found out after we opened our direct door to the retreat to be told the area was closed for filming. After making our way to attend a talk on jewellery at 3.30 pm ( because we couldn’t use our exclusive pool and spa area) after waiting for 15 m we asked security if we were in the right place only to be told it had been cancelled. We were promised pamphlets to be delivered to our room for a rescheduled talk - nothing arrived. No bath salts or bubble bath for our bath, no cotton balls - just an empty container on the bathroom sink. Our private spa was emptied each day but never refilled until we rang and requested it. Dinner service at the restaurants ordinary and we were made to feel like Scrooge’s when we just stuck to our premium package wines by the glass instead of ordering bottles of wine from their exclusive list. Our family of 4 traveled on the Epic for my husbands 40th birthday. Having sailed with NCL 10 years before we were very excited. However, the Epic ship is in generally poor condition. This ship was advertised as a newer state of the art luxury ship. The Bliss Lounge, Speigel Tent and Epic Theatre are in dire need of repairs. Chair upholstery was thread-bare, paint was chipped everywhere and general upkeep is desperately needed. The ongoing construction on board was a nuisance. The front of the boat is dented badly and it’s an all around case of neglect with rust spots visible everywhere. Carpeting was stained in areas throughout the ship- mainly in hallways and in our cabin. The halls smelled like sewage in certain spots and we quickly learned to hold our breath in those areas. Our family stateroom layout had the bunk beds located right above the main bed. The bunks were not high enough to avoid hitting your head when you sat up in the night. Guest services said they could not upgrade our room despite our willingness to pay for an upgrade. I can’t tell you how many times we knocked our heads. If you are a family traveling together, spend the extra money on a Disney Cruise or get 2 cabins. The popular shows were too crowded on the days at sea. Days in port we were busy seeing things. Our children were disappointed with the kids club activities and begged us to not leave them there again. I think they were expecting something similar to Disney Oceaneer’s Club. Due to a unforeseen circumstance, our ship skipped a port which was quite disappointing but to make it worse the Epic crew greatly mishandled the situation. It’s a tragedy when a person goes overboard by choice or by accident and my condolences go out to the family but over the loudspeaker, all passengers including my 2 young sons 6 and 8, were asked to look for the body at sea wearing pink pajamas. Because of these announcements being made multiple times to all passengers, the rest of my vacation was filled with answering my children’s questions about death, suicide, drowning and some other very dark topics. Their little noses were pressed against the glass looking for her. It was just so disturbing. I realize this last aspect won’t impact most people on future Epic cruises, but it was our experience. The situation could have been handled so much better and far more discreetly. To end on a positive note as nothing is ever all bad, the waitstaff and greeters in the Garden Cafe were very nice...Much better than the other restaurants where I wish gratuity was based on service level. Our cabin steward and housekeeping staff were kind as well. The breakfast was good, OSheehans was similar to Bennigan's which was fine by us and the embarkation and debarkation process was smooth. All that being said, I will most likely never cruise with NCL again. Read Less

As a third time cruiser on other lines many years ago- but a friend was taking me I was trying to save them money. What a horrible mistake choosing this old tugboat. From beginning to end there were so many things wrong. We got an inside cabin - actually not a problem in itself. The cabin crew were wonderful and attentive. The cabin was fine. The staff at the Hospitality desk were overwhelmed and it showed in their ability to serve in a friendly way. Almost everything was extra. We originally ordered the non alcoholic drinks package as neither drink. It was 96 Euro's for 40 drinks for the week for 2 people.we got a glass of mineral water at dinner in the restaurant..The package included; water, iced tea, non alcoholic cocktails, sodas and juices. Neither of us drink Pepsi products, nor peach iced tea or lemon ice tea, or juices or sweet non alcoholic drinks (non of this was spelled out in the drink package) or we would not have ordered it. We cancelled it and were refunded our money but made to feel guilty. The staff were completely disorganized in most matters. For shore excursions we all met in the theater and had to show our tickets to get a bag lunch. The crowds were huge and pushy and the staff had no idea how to crowd control. The same with the Buffet lines. People just pushed in front of you and grabbed meat off the platter and piled it on their plate and left and left you waiting patiently for a new batch of grilled meats. It was a free for all! Now for the food: It was terrible and unrecognizable. There were terrines of a ground vegetable dish that was reincarnated days later in another fashion as an appetizer. There were virtually NO fresh vegetables except for sliced cooked carrots at breakfast??? There was a small salad choice at dinner. Most of the food was unpalatable. No matter how many courses it was still not enough or good enough. The the came around the table and showed you a menu of additionally priced choices; lobster (which was so small 4 people I spoke with made the Maitre 'D take it off their bill. My friend is handicapped and was disappointed at the short amount of time on the excursion - time in the city - compared to the hours of getting there. 2.5 hours to Florence and 2.5 hours back and about 3 hours in the city. Same in Rome. Even able bodied people complained of the pace and it was on your own. We were dropped off quite a distance from main venues and with so many tourists it was difficult to see what you wanted -even the highlights. We tried to cancel our Marseille tour due to his not being able to tolerate the pace we were told in a very snippy and not compassionate way that in no terms were we able to cancel our excursion. However one of the staff told me it would be no problem to cancel. In fact several other passengers tour were accidentally cancelled and they were upset. We were told he needed to see the ship Doctor and pay 62 Euros to get a medical certificate to cancel and that would NOT include my ticket! Ridiculous. The "Doctor" looked like a washed up degenerate alcoholic. We left very upset. The entertainment was pitiful. This was a disaster from beginning to end. All the Americans we spoke with felt exactly the same way and will be filing complaints as well. Read Less

The ship itself is lovely and the staff are good but that’s where it ends!! The entertainment on the ship is laughable, the shows in theater are just repeating themselves, the shows out in the Atrium are the exact same, different costumes but same head melting dance music! The lack of entertainment on the ship is ridiculous, even if you didn’t like the show you still went to it as there was nothing else to do! The food is buffet was okay but the system is ridiculous,no lines or queues and people just barging, hated it! Our room was a suite which was nice but we were at back of the ship and every morning when ship was docking at half 6 the vibration woke us,we were absolutely shattered everyday! Staff is from the Philippines and they could not care less about the customers. They are paid very little money so obviously job is not made properly. We had a baby with us and one time we were asked to leave the dining room since there was no place for us and the baby. Food was great on a few occasions but twice we had to go sleep hungry since the food was inedible. I asked the refund for the service charge but they said it was impossible. The bar is a nightmare! You go for a drink and it may take up to half an hour for a stupid drink which most of the time would be undrinkable. The barman stays playing around behind the bar waiting for time to go by. Hot water for the baby was a fight with them. They said hot water only in the morning. For god's sake I JUST WANTED WATER. We paid the piu gusto.... but you can't have a bottle of water! If you want the bottle its an extra 2.50eur. We paid over 200 each to have unlimited drinks. I can't call it a holiday. Staying home would have been a better option. First and last time with Costa. I have always said, if you don’t enjoy a cruise it’s because you are a miserable person. My husband and I love cruising. We have sailed on Disney, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Princess and Carnival. In April, we sailed on the MSC Bellissima for the first time, and they turned us into those miserable people who hate cruises! We boarded the MSC Bellissima in Barcelona Spain on Friday, 26 April for a seven-night cruise throughout the Mediterranean. The problem started as we boarded. Drink package: We were approached by a crew member (doing her job) to purchase a beverage package. We informed her (first time ever) that we wouldn’t need one. This cruise had five stops to incredible ports in France, Italy and Malta. There was only one day at sea and our package included twelve free drinks each per person. Neither I nor my husband drink much so we thought if we drink more than 24 drinks, we will just pay for them. We were politely informed that our package did not indicate any free beverages at all, and she suggested it might be in our best interest to purchase one. ALL beverages, except for “fountain juice” at breakfast in the buffet area and self poured tea and coffee, required purchase. So, we purchased a “premium” package, next best thing to all inclusive. Thinking we can’t go wrong there. It cost $946 Canadian. We soon found out the following: • We went to the chocolate store/ café and asked for a coffee with Baily’s. We were informed our package didn’t cover that. I could go to the bar next door and get it there. • We went to the champagne bar and I asked, “What is a nice champagne?” The bartender suggested a brand. So, I gave him my drink card, he looked at it and passed it back said “Your package only covers drinks up to $10. This champagne is $18 a glass.” So, I said, “Suggest one my package covers.” The bartender gave me the “What the hell do I look like, a servant, look?” That was followed by an eye roll......kid you not. • We dined in the main dining room each night. The water for the table and coffee during meal was charged to our cards. It’s not free as it is on other ships. Imagine, being charged for water! • The drink card can’t be used in the Cirque du Soleil theatre. You have to buy your drinks there. • After supper the waiter came around with shots of Limoncello for $7 each. I gave him my drink card and was told, “It doesn’t cover speciality drinks.” Even though my card covered up to $10 a drink. • The drinks were low on alcohol and high on syrup. Every drink was sugary and thick. Some were undrinkable. • The drink card can’t be used in the theatre. You have to buy your drinks there. Dining: The MSC Bellissima has a choice of 12 dining venues and 20 bars that promise something special for every taste. But only the main dining room and buffet are covered by your fare. We paid $3,691.04 not counting gratuities, drink package and internet charges. We had asked for and received on our booking (confirmed) late dining at a table of six or eight with other couples. We do this as we enjoy meeting others and the late dining gives us more time to enjoy daytime activities/excursions without a rush and no hurry to finish dining as no one coming behind you. The dining was a disaster. • Although we booked for the eight pm setting, we were given the seven pm setting. This wasn’t a problem and we adjusted our day. • We were sat at a table for two. We told the maître d’ that we asked to be seated with other guests. We were instructed to ask people at the next table if they wanted to pull the tables together. While all around us were larger tables with only one or two couple at them. The next evening, we were informed they moved us, without asking. Not expected, but Excellent!! Must be a table with others. No, it was another table for two behind a huge pillar. We told the maître d’ that this was unacceptable, and we were leaving the restaurant. Finally, he put us with a table of three other couples, who turned out to be fabulous people. • This is the first cruise ship where the waiter comes around with a basket of various types of breads. Normally this is laid on the table in fine dining restaurants and cruises. We were told we could pick from the basket and if we wanted more, we had to ask. • Once again, simple things like water and coffee in the dining rooms, are charged to your account. This is normally free on ships. • The menu was unbelievably bad. It looked great on the menu, but the food was substandard. On their web site, they say, “MSC Bellissima's main restaurants serve first-class Mediterranean and international specialities in elegant surroundings. Menus change every day, and exquisite dishes have been created for the Elegant dinners by awarded-winning Spanish Master Chef Ramón Freixa and the Internationally acclaimed German Master Chef Harald Wohlfahrt.” It is the first time I’ve seen a full table send back their food. And we were not the only ones. The food was disgusting. (See the picture of the chicken breast supper). The portions were smaller than a Weight Watchers frozen dinner. Both in the main restaurant and the buffet. The chicken breast was a slice of chicken served with a handful of fries with no vegetables. The beef was served the same way. I would be horrified to serve either to a guest at my house. In each port of call, the restaurants close to the ship’s terminal were full of passengers all with the same complaint of being hungry. I also had two bouts of food poisoning on board. • In the evening we would go to the buffet to see if the food was any better. The buffet closed between 10-midnight. So, we had to wait until midnight for food. The only things served were pizza, fries, fruit (most of it was rotten – see picture) and tiny sandwiches. They had salsa but no chips. • There was no surf and turf night, which is a standard on cruise ships. • The main complaint from everyone we spoke to on the ship was the food and how hungry people were. • It was quite common to find rotten fruit in the buffet. (See picture.) Service: Besides the awful food, the service was just as bad. • On our first excursion day, we had to be at the meeting point by 8 am. We ordered room service. The earliest they will deliver is 7:30 am. I take medication that requires I eat after taking it. The food never turned up. No one called to apologize. It just didn’t happen. When we notified the cabin steward he just shrugged and said, “I don’t know.” • I told the staff that I needed water in my room to take medication. I was charged for the water. (As a point of interest, I made the same request in Las Vegas and they delivered a bar fridge to our room stocked with water free of charge.) • On the first day we boarded we had to go to the buffet until our room was ready. While picking up food two people cut in front of me and pushed me to the side. When I looked, the two were crew members wearing officer’s uniforms. I chalked it up to they were in a rush to get the ship going. But this became the norm. During the ship’s big jewellery sale, I was looking at a watch. Once again, I was pushed to the side by two crew members who were buying up the watches. I have never seen the crew do something like that on any other ship. • The crew are also hard to find and difficult to deal with. If you want one, you’ll find them sitting around the buffet tables talking or on the smoking deck. I have never seen a crew member on another ship smoking with the passengers. • I went to the excursion desk to ask about the excursion we did that day. It was advertised as including lunch and several stops. But that’s not what we got. This was ten pm. The man at the desk said, “We closed five minutes ago, and I can’t deal with you right now. Come back tomorrow.” Then he walked away. There was no more to it than that. Usually on a cruise ship staff will bend over backwards to help you. • In Malta, my back gave out. I have two titanium rods and six screws in my back. After four days of walking I had to return to the ship early to lay down. We approached the first door on the ship and was told by a crew member that that entrance was for ‘elite cruisers’ only. I explained that I was in pain and couldn’t walk. He told me, “Your entrance is down there.” He pointed to the end of the ship. I explained again, thinking maybe he didn’t understand, and explained my medical situation to him. He pulled the rope across the entrance and said, “I told you your entrance is down there.” My husband had to help me walk the length of the ship to get on. • Having said that, not all crew were bad. We had one waiter and one bartender who actually tried their best and did give us good service. • Customer service was non existent. On other cruises, on exiting for an excursion, someone would be on the jetty providing directions to where you needed to go, offering you water or just being available in case you needed to ask a question. None of that existed for MSC. Entertainment: The entertainment was a joke. • There was a piano player and a violinist in the main lobby playing classical music – all week! There was no band to dance to. • The main bar did have a band who were quite good. But they had two singers who had to read the words from sheets on a music stand. They sang the same songs every night but still didn’t know the words. They also couldn’t sing. It became a joke at the bar to see who could identify the song. • Children were also allowed to be in the bars. Which meant half the seating was taken up by bored teenagers and the dance floor had toddlers and young children jumping up and down in between adults who wanted to dance. • The only adults only bar is a jazz piano bar on the top deck (If jazz is your thing). There’s no dance floor. Each night it was full of adults saying, “I’m so bored.” • During one evening the crew were dressed up in these cheap, cheesy costumes like cupid, Popeye the Sailor Man and Jessica Rabbit. I walked by one male crew member who was dressed in a red heart costume with white tights. I honestly though it was a bachelor party and he had lost a bet. It was actually creepy. • The evening shows were excellent and the talent in those shows were amazing, but the shows were only a half hour long. On other ships, the evening show is an hour or more. It’s like you just sit down and you have to get up. And, there is no bar service available at the “normal” shows. Bar service was available at the Cirque shows, but was extra, not covered by a beverage package!! They nickel and dime customers: One of the drawing points for us was the Cirque due Soleil shows. They advertised that twice every night, six nights a week, guests on MSC Bellissima have the unique opportunity to see two original shows by Cirque du Soleil, the world leader in live artistic entertainment, and savour a superb culinary experience in the same glamorous venue. What they don’t tell you is, you have to pay extra for this. • The Cirque shows cost 17.25 euros to see 37.25 if you want dinner with it. You can’t use your drink card in the Cirque theatre. • I believe the food is bad to force you to go to the specialty restaurants on board and spend more money. • They advertise bowling but don’t tell you it costs about 10 euros to play it for 30 minutes. • Everything on board costs extra money. There’s nothing all inclusive about this ship. I estimate it will cost 100 euros a day just to keep your kids entertained. Overall, the ship is absolutely stunning. But the service and food are just not up to par. This is the first time we took a cruise and couldn’t wait to get off. We considered staying at our last port of call and trying to fly back from there. Two other couples warned us about MSC the problems with the food and service. We thought they were just being difficult. Well I can tell you I will never cruise MSC again. We went on this cruise with the intention of booking their Rome to Miami 20 day transatlantic in November. Now I wouldn’t take the cruise for free. I believe you get what you pay for, but we paid more for this cruise than any other cruise we have ever been on. It’s the first time that I felt so hungry on a ship that I was frustrated. It was also quite common to find there is no toilet paper in the public washrooms. The ports of call were fantastic, and we are already planning to go back to explore more of Spain, Italy, France and Portugal, but I will be sticking to Royal Caribbean this time. Out of ten, I give this cruise a three. Read Less

First , I tried to contact MSC customer support prior to the cruise. Two emails and two phone call back requests and NO response! Ship was beautiful but food was mediocre at best. Staff was sad looking, not friendly and not helpful. They just stood around looking like sad sacks. When I had an issue and went to the front desk I was met with:someone will respond. No one ever did. Funny, after I got home I receive an email asking if the problems had been handled. I responded No! Again no response from anyone. At dinner the waiter made a mess of our order, brought it cold and said the kitchen was having problems? It was obvious to the three of us that the staff urgently needed extra training, with about half of the buffet group being send to a remedial course. There was consistently confusion when approaching key staff. One officer replied, I have absolutely no idea and walked away without offering assistance. It may have been a cheaper cruise but not worth the money. This was my 38th cruise and my worst. I use to say there are no bad cruises, just some better than others. I no longer will say that. Cabin attendants were good but also confused when asked about simple issues like why did I not get a daily program or why can I not get ice. Entertainment was on the cheap. Read Less

This was my 6th cruise, very first with MSC. I have cruised with Carnival and Celebrity. This ship was so disorganized. Every person you asked had a different answer. The rooms were not cleaned well. The food was TERRIBLE. Not fresh. They sent up wrong breakfasts and one day, no breakfast at all. 3/4 of the staff were rude. The dining room was awful. The first night our table of 4, we each ordered something different, and all 4 dinners were terrible. Never again on this cruise line. I required a wheelchair accessible room. The accessibility was awful. There were no automatic doors. I could not enter or leave our cabin without help. In the cabin, the phone was located across the room, not next to the bed. There was very little help to get me up and down the ramps to get on and off the ship for excursions. There were no onboard activities. Very poor. Read Less

I chose this cruise because of the ports being visited and the low cost. The internet service was horrible, and when I complained and asked for a refund, I was told that it wouldn't be possible. They canceled two of our pre-booked shore excursions - one because it was on disembarkation day (hello - why was it even offered, and why did they let us book it?), and the other because there were not enough English speaking passengers. The next day; however, we were on a shore excursion with 47 English speaking passengers and 4 German passengers, so we had to listen to the whole thing in both languages. Why couldn't they have done that for us on the previous day? The entire cruise catered to the Italians, and it was tiresome to have to hear everything in 6 languages, not to mention that it was clear that they were joking and laughing with the Italian passengers and not translating what was happening to everyone else. They were very chintzy when it came to game prizes (one prize for the whole team, and it was always a thin little tote bag), and the only activities were one or two video quizzes and dance lessons. Bingo was expensive, only played twice, and only one game each time. The food was awful - obviously frozen and thawed, not cooked fresh, and the same old items every day in the buffet, and only 3 choices in the dining room. Water, anywhere but the dining room or buffet, was not free, and in the dining room it was only free for the Americans. Staff was often rude for the most part and didn't offer any accommodation for any complaints or problems. Because every port was an embarkation/debarkation port, the elevators near our room were closed down all afternoon, and then we had to listen to the muster drill more than once. I chose this cruise based on the itinerary and time of year. My boyfriend doesn’t enjoy travelling when there’s tons of tourists, and hates the heat, so this trip seemed perfect. We’ve cruised before on Norwegian and Royal Caribbean. After our Norwegian trip, we said it was the worst cruise of our life... we were wrong, it was the msc sinfonia. I’m assuming it was because it was winter, and a smaller ship, we had a lot of movement, all throughout the day and night, I was very seasick. We even had to reroute at one point due to bad weather conditions. But obviously not the cruise lines fault. The first thing to comment on, the typical “washy washy” staff on cruises didn’t exist, just hand sanitizer stations that I rarely saw people use. Sooo, I got sick, then my boyfriend got sick, and by the end of the 10 days, I’d say about 90% of the ship was sick. It was absolutely disgusting. We went on an excursion in Rome and the hour long bus ride was full of everyone coughing. You can only protect yourself from germs when other people do the same, which wasn’t the case on this cruise. Our room was good, larger than previous cruises, but the shower was terrible, I’m a small person, and I just decided to shower with the curtain open because I couldn’t even raise my arms to shampoo without the shower curtain being stuck all the way up my body and arms. Also, even with the curtain closed, it leaked all over the floor. We tried to explain this to our room steward but he barely spoke English and didn’t understand us. The food: I’ll start with saying my boyfriend and i are both chefs. We were obviously disappointed. We choose to cruise because of better food than a resort, but in this case, I’ve had better food in places like Cuba and Mexico. I was counting down the days to get home so I could cook us a real meal. Breakfast was probably the best meal and that’s not saying much. There was no egg station, but we found out later in the outside patio there’s a chef that makes omelettes... but only ham and Swiss. Lunch and dinner was pretty boring, usually two types of pasta, some vegetables and a carvery station(usually pork) And always over cooked. You had to follow staff around to ask for butter because it was never left out in the open. There was an extreme lack of fruit on the cruise, possibly because of the time of year but the only fruit that was constantly there was apples, pears and oranges. We had dinner in the main dining room At the beginning of the cruise. We kept leaving hungry, and by the time dinner was done the buffet was closed. There’s no 24 hour food options at all, not even snacks. So we started eating at the buffet before dinner, until we realized that they serve the exact same food in the buffet. So we stopped going to the main dining room entirely. End of story, if you’re a foodie, do not go on this cruise. Embarkation was seriously confusing. You get into the terminal and they look at your paperwork, say ok good to go and I was like “what were done???” and the guy said yes keep going. We then went onto the ship and security saw our paperwork. A few more steps and another person asked for paperwork, then they shove a camera in your face and take your picture right where you’re standing. Then you’re swarmed by the people selling drink packages. Have a drink here cause it’s the only time you’ll get any juice without having to pay for it. Embarkation was smooth just walk off when they call your colour and cheer that you’re finally getting off the worst cruise of your life. The cruise activities were seriously lacking. Without being able to sunbathe, there’s absolutely nothing to do. I took to watching tv, but there’s only 1 English movie channel, that plays the same stuff over and over, or the news. We played board games but that was probably the most exciting activity they offered. We will not be going back to msc, and as avid travellers, our business will be with Royal Caribbean from now on. This was a chance to break up a Scottish winter, which it did. The weather was great the destinations were superb. The ship was a complete let down . The embarkation some 10hrs late due to problems with the ship. A promised free meal consisted of I roll and 1 hot drink. We had to spend the next day in port while the ship was fixed causing us to miss one destination. The cabin was clean and comfortable. Dining was a nightmare people scrambling for a table and food that at best was ok. The entertainment patchy and the activities were ok if all you wanted to do was learn the samba. Service was surly or unhelpful most of the time , the exception being the cabin staff. In the main service is poor and I would inform reception that you do not want to be charged a daily service charge . The drinks come with a 15% service charge anyway . The ship offers a shuttle bus at most ports however these are expensive and they will not tell you about any allternatves The port of disembarkation had a taxi and partial bus strike which had been on the news for 3 days MSC said they were unaware of it and basically it wasn't there problem .This resulted in elderly and infirm people being dumped at the port with their baggage in the rain and expected to get on with it. If you think MSC might be for you please THINK AGAIN . Read Less

We are seasoned travelers who have experienced Norwegian; Royal Caribbean, Viking River and many other reputable Shipping lines. This Ship is old and the worst service we have ever experienced on any Ocean/ River Cruise Company. You are forced to buy a Drinks Package (Even for Water) and the Wine selection was absolutely pathetic quality and value. AN ABSOLUTE RIP OFF!!! The Restaurant experience was one star rating - Awful food The Buffet was the worst we have ever experienced - It was like eating in a Pig Pen. The food was poorly presented; cold and lifeless. Everyone we sat with at Dinner complained about the Ship, the service and the food. Room Service was pathetic - Breakfast in your Cabin was cold Toast / Croissants and Cold Coffee or Tea. No Hot Breakfast. The staff who were 90% Philippine were poorly trained and had problems with the multitude of languages including English. If you asked for White Wine you were lucky if you got a glass of Rough Red or water. I got sick on the cruise and ended up in the Ships Hospital for treatment by the Doctor's Death from Romania. The were sticking intravenous drips injected with drugs into me for their diagnosis of Viral Pneumonia and I just kept getting worse from their treatment. In Tenerife they arranged for me to see a REAL Doctor at an emergency Hospital with the sole aim of getting me off the ship. The Doctor examined me and ran several tests; Blood Tests and X Rays and told me to stop taking the medications the Ships Doctors were forcing into me as they were the wrong medications for me. He advised me that I did not have Viral Pneumonia just a severe Head Cold and Lower lung infection and prescribed the correct antibiotics and support medications and he advised the Ships Doctors that I was fit to continue our journey. The MSC Sinfonia Doctor's Death were treating me with the incorrect medications and they made me pay in excess of $2,000 for their inexperienced and incorrect diagnosis / treatment. My wife and I were verbally abused by the Ships Doctor when we questioned why we were being off loaded in Tenerife and the associated costs without any prior consultation with us. To top it off several excursions were cancelled and we arrived into Disembarkation Port "Barcelona" 10 hours late and had to pay for another set of airfares to London and it has taken 2 x months to get a credit payment - the Customer Service Departments are rude and abrupt with customers. Ship couldn't get special additional items purchased right that i had purchased and spoken to customer service on the phone at length, warm champagne in the room , no ice or glasses, 2nd bottle delivered same way 5 days early, the chocolate strawberries where tiny, canapes never arrived that we had spoken to no less then 5 staff members about and then when I complained the next day they asked why I didn't call ,tea service was 20 cookies, a pound cake a pot of reg coffee and no decaf or herb tea. I don;t eat carbs or caffeine, le bistro was a disgrace the waitress was inadequately trained my frisse salad had no frisse lettuce in it, I asked what came with the duck and I told them no carrots, just give me a spoonful of the cauliflower puree from the lamb, we waited 45 minutes between courses and my duck came out smothered in potato with a 1/2 head of cauliflower on the plate,It was disgraceful that i was paying an additional 5-15 dollars additional a glass for wine in Cucina and Cagneys,The humidor room was filthy all the time due to cigarette smokers, there was almost no place for my husband to enjoy a cigar, Our massage appointment was re-scheduled due to appointments made a week earlier, mine was made 4 months ago, I lost my reading glasses in spa whirlpool which couldn't be found in 5 days $150.00 gone. we had no water for 5 hours on embarkation. We had to go to the bar to get water for the room . We were late getting into Majora due to weather and the mob scene in the cafe restaurant was scary and there was no place to sit at all and the lines for each station were 20 minutes long ....we had all the wrong clothes i was told my husband needed jackets , slacks and a button down shirt in most restaurants, Teppanyaki told us the earliest we could eat was 9:30 there were 4 of us in an empty restaurant, at the Cirque show I was sat in the back and we were told first come first seated well there where 4 seats being held at the next table for the late comers we weren't late on line by 8:55 for 9:30 show. the tour we took from the ship train to sollair, the guild spoke so much broken English it was hard to follow her, there was no white party.more wasted clothes...I was pressured to buy , buy , buy more in the spa, the photographer took pics then told us they were $24 each and not available as part of package photo. The best part of the ship was being off of it on our own tours and we dreaded coming back each day. I spent enough time complaining to customer service that they knew me by name..... Read Less

When you buy the 'Ultimate Food & Beverage pack' why do you have to pay a supplement in the better restaurants? The only ultimate thing about the package is that it is ultimately bad, buffet food, bad bad wine and all very samey, the included dining options are poor and use far far too much salt, we requested no salt options in the better food outlets. The wine by the bottle is NOT included so you order wine under $15 per glass, not very good. The waiting staff were misleading on this fact and charged us $170 for 2 bottles, which we are currently in dispute with them over, this has left a very sour taste in our mouths! The shore excursions were very expensive and we were made to go into shops that we had no interest in, the tour guides were either ill informed of the excursion we took or barked at us throughout the tour. The on-board entertainment was like being at a holiday camp, I swear I saw a couple of redcoats. The cabins are very small, even though they are called staterooms, very plastic and not enough room or privacy, the bed was too small I am 5'8" and my feet hung off the end. The service in the bars was slow and our drinks were incorrectly served and items missed from the order. All in all, not a good experience and I will never go on another cruise, they skin you for every extra penny, this is not good value for money and caters to the lowest of the low. Read Less
