Having sailed previously on MSC Divina in Carebbean on two ocasion, thaught a mediterranean cruise with MSC would be a good idea. Wrong. Mediterranean cruises are not like in the caribbean. Not even the water on the dining room is free! Yes you will pay to have your meal with water. Also service is terrible, european restaurant service expecting a service charge? Embarkation: was really well organized and very fast. Shows are average, a couple of strange performers, don't get it. The Circ du Soleil at sea is a ripoff "DONT GO" at the end everybody stays still on their seats thinking; is it over or about to begin. Service at main dining is terrible, the servers don't treat you with respect and is if they don't care your still going to give them the service charge. "CAUTION" not even the water is free. They will not serve you tap water, only plastic bottled. Note: the last day of the cruise they will include in your account a charge for MSC Foundation; yeah right protect the environment as everybody in the main dining room sips from a plastic bottle for MSC' s financial gain. Night activities are always packed lots of party going on. This is a good point in their favor. Cabins and cleaning service are great. Good reviews on this area. Ports and shore excursions: Great itinerary included Marcelles, Genoa, Civitaveccia, Palermo, Malta. Used a shore excursion to tranfer from Port of Civitaveccia to Rome. They did not comply with the stated hours. Shuttle left later and required to return before. Few time to explore city. Notice that some ports are very far from the cities of interest an MSC will upsell you their shuttles. Don't do it. In Marceilles they were charging €13 per adults for shuttle. If you walk 10 minutes from the ship the city provides it free of charge with trips every 30 minutes. Some in my party felt scamed by MSC. In Barcelona a Taxi will cost you €10 for 4 and MSC will charge 12€ per adult. The buffet area in strange. Not the best selection or quality. During thier stated lunch and dinner hours they will start closing section of the buffet restaurant ending in a reduced crowded space where no one will find a table. Don't expect juice, iced tea or lemonade as in caribbean sailings. Only juice available is a watered down during breakfast. If you are a european used to bad service and paying for the basics, this is your cruise. I believe americans will have a hard time with the basics here, not for somebody used to travelling on other cruise lines with american style service you will be disapointed as i am. Read Less

The company is not transparent in many ways. Let's start with the cabin, the photo they advertise is completely different than the actual cabin (Bella experience ocean view). They advertise the cabin being more spacious and with a couch (not a big deal). Paying for a cruise, you expect to be entitled to most of the amenities. However, paying for the cruise seemed to be more of just an entry fee. The food is deplorable. The buffet food is better than the dining food (will just leave it at that). The drink package allots you essentially none of the available drinks. They are not night-owl friendly. If I wanted to play table tennis and go to the jacuzzi at 11 pm, I would not be able to. I just want to have fun, if I wanted to go bowling and play with the VR set it would be like 100 Euros for an hour. Why are they being so cheap? The most disturbing thing about the cruise is the fraudulent charges they perform. Examples are: 35 Euro charge for the embarkation photo that they make you do and do not tell you they will charge you for it, they even claimed they sent the photo to our room which we never received. MSC Foundation, supposedly in the fine print they will charge you a couple of Euros for their "Foundation" more like scamdation. They will charge you for their shuttle services at the ports. They will give you what seems to be a free bus shuttle ticket in your room but in the fine print, they will charge you for it. They have weird rules such as free juice for breakfast but at lunch-time they will charge you for it. How am I supposed to know? They are also really cheap with their water so unless your package covers it, expect to pay for a life necessity. They advertise for cirque du Soleil. It is not a free show. Their sales tactics are that you get a complimentary drink which unbeknownst of their choosing. Also, the same performers as their regular show which makes me think if they are stealing the trademark of Cirque du Soleil. There is no variation in their free shows. It is the same singers and dancers every night with just different songs. What happened to comedy, magic, ect ? The only thing good about the cruise is they give you sufficient time off of the boat which I had a great time. Come dovrei saperlo? I translated in different languages. If you go on the cruise you will get my joke. Traduje en diferentes idiomas. Si vas en el crucero obtendrás mi broma. Ho tradotto in diverse lingue. Se vai in crociera otterrai la mia battuta. Well after 73 cruises I can finally say never again on MSC. My pros were : Embarkation in Barcelona and disembarkation in Barcelona Our wait staff in main dining room (I use the term dining room loosely) Our cabin steward was good. Ship was beautiful. Our cabin was ok too, although closet placement was a poor design. Cons: Generally unfriendly staff on board (language problem?) Lifts (Elevators) slow and very crowded. Daily embark and debarkation, kind of like a local bus. We booked early dining but were assigned late dining, got it changed and was put into a , for lack of better words a SUB dining room. More like a warehouse, no décor at all. Daily activities were abysmal probably due to daily ports. NOW the food, I had read in previous reviews that the food was not good to just plain bad. I found them to be true, again after 73 cruises I feel somewhat qualified to judge the food. Also this is the only cruise my wife and I lost weight on. Main dining was usually cold or luke warm at its best. The buffet was only slightly better, but there you had to survive the rudeness of most of the southern European passengers. We have traveled in Europe for years and have never been faced with the rudeness we saw on this ship. As a travel advisor I will not recommend this line to my American or Canadian clients as I know the disappointment they will have. Read Less

The ship is beautiful but foods, both in restaurant and buffet, are terrible. Food in restaurant is far from enough and I had to eat again in buffet. Food quality, both in restaurant and buffet are far from tasty. We were originally arranged sitting in Silver Dolphin restaurant same table with strangers while many tables are still not occupied. Excursions are professional organized. We were charged twice for a shore excursion and had to deal with the excursion staff in last minute before disembarkation. One of itinerary destinations cancelled due to poor weather but we didn't get any compensation. All passengers attended the shore excursion in Florence got badly wet due to pouring rain and I got cold second day. Cabin service is bad. Bed sheets and towels in our cabin never got changed for 7 nights. We couldn't have a good sleep for all nights because vibrating from beds and noise from balcony door. Read Less

The most disappointing of all my cruises. Room design very inconvenient and strange. The steward was just a glorified maid. He made the beds up and that was it. Unavailable for the first 3 days. Calls to housekeeping gave us a recording that he was busy helping other travelers. The poor service and attitude was across the board. Like tired workers just moving through the motions. This is a management problem. The only high spot was the Manhattan Room with excellent service. Everything was an additional charge. Treats at the coffee bar were not included. Why? They could offer the same treats as the buffet as well as higher end to be purchased. Room Service - additional cost. Horrible Internet!! Availability of internet staff was minimal. Luggage lock went missing from room, filed a report. Supervisor never followed up. Steward finally said he saw it in the trash he emptied?!? Read Less

The ship is a wonderful modern ship with fantastic features, but the staff let it down with their priorities being maintaining the areas where they work forgetting the customers. The food quality is not what I expect from a ship of this size and quality/cost of cruise. The speciality restaurants are extremely expensive. We have been cruising for over 16 years with various cruise lines (some budget ones) and this was the worst we have experienced. The ship is extremely noisy everywhere in the entertainment bars and on deck during the day. If you have an issue and go to Guest Services your concerns will not be addressed or an apology give, or it was not in my or my sons cases. The shows on an evening lasts only 35 minutes and no drinks are served. Beware of the compulsory tips! they are extortionate! but you can ask for them not to be added, I think that because the tips are added the staff don’t really care if they give good service, sorry MSC but we will not be cruising with MSC again. Firstly, I was amazed that €120 each person was a compulsory gratuity payment and €240 was taken from my account for my husband and I. We were told that nothing could be done about this and that we would not be able to leave the ship unless this was paid and the form signed to say it was ok. This totally ruined our cruise. We always opt out of tips and reward staff for their excellent service ourselves. The food was not very good. Some dinner menus had nothing that we liked at all. Our waitress Aleiksandra was amazing. Full marks for her. Also our cabin steward was excellent. Most staff were professional and pleasant. However, after a couple of days with the mini bar not being cold, I decided to phone reception to tell them it was not working and I was told “Madam it is a mini bar it is not meant to be cold”. The mini bar was later replaced and the drinks cold. I also booked this cruise with my sister and her husband and our cabins could not have been further away from each other if they had tried. Also my sister’s telephone was not working so we couldn’t contact each other. We also found that there was a lack of information regarding ports to be visited and disembarkment unless you were booked on a tour. The shows were excellent. Read Less

As it claims to be the world most luxurious cruise ship, I chose this cruise trip to celebrate my husband's 60th special birthday with my family, hoping it to be a memorable one but it turned out to be totally disappointing! Despite my previous arrangement with the cruise co about my husband's birthday before the trip and reminded them again on the first day we boarded the "Explorer" for the room decoration for his birthday, we were very disappointed that they failed to show anything after we came back from the day excursion on that day, NOT even a single birthday card! After our inquiry, they put the ballrooms and banner inside our cabin, in front of my husband ! Really totally meaningless !! It ruined every efforts and purpose of this trip! A live spider and a live bug was found moving inside a bowl of mixed berries when having room service breakfast . It was videotaped and reported to the management. It was sooo gross that made us stay away from berries ever after even though we love eating them so much before. They excused as cannot wash very thoroughly the berries etc etc, which was totally unacceptable. Their attitude and response did not show any professional ethic, especially on a cruise that claims itself to be the world most luxurious one! A dry supposed to be clean face towel was founded stained in brownish red when my husband was surprised to find the water changed to red after put it under running water in the wash basin. Besides, the towels, especially the bath towels in the cabins look old and thin too. The first few days after our complaints, we were given better towels that were newer and whiter but situation went back the same again few days later. A bottle of champagne was given in our cabin a few days later, WITHOUT any card attached to it. We all thought this was a token of apology from the management after all those 'surprising' incidents. Unfortunately, we found it after we were back home that it was actually a birthday gift ordered to my husband by his friend who had paid both the wine and a birthday card which was missing ! Believe it or not ? This was the service from a 5-star cruise ship ! The meal quality in all the restaurants, including all specialty restaurants, are below the standard one would expect on a 5-star cruise ship, except in Pacific Rim where the service and food were very good. There are plenty of rooms for improvement of the food : 1/ Soup in Prime 7 was super salty that even the manager commented it was like drinking sea water after he tasted it, No improvement was found on our next dinning there. 2/ steak in Prime 7 was so tough and rubbery that hard to be cut even with the steak knife. 3/ pizza and even the ice cream cones were not crispy but soft. 4/ nuts in the buffet table were stale and rancid. 5/ the quality and variety of the fruit on the buffet tables were below the standard of a luxurious cruise catering. For the Spa room, I was surprised to find that there was no regular sauna room but a infra-red room with slightly low warm temperature which would not alleviate your muscle tiredness even after staying there for a long time. There was one and only one small hair dryer and you had to stand up to dry your hair in a corner of the changing room after shower as there was not even a single chair for the whole room! You may choose to go back to your cabin with your wet hair or standing up to dry your hair for quite some time with that small low power hair dryer, especially for those with long hair. Since there is no sauna room, I changed to have bath in the bathtub inside my cabin to relieve my tiredness but No bathing salt was provided even after request! Is it a luxurious request ? This is totally unacceptable even on a 3 or 4 star cruise ship, not to mention on this claim-to-be the world most luxurious cruise ship! Read Less

We chose the haven spa suite category because we wanted to have memorable 17th year anniversary and since this would have been our 3rd time cruising this same itinerary, we wanted just to relax & use the spa. Instead our room flooded each time we showered because the ship would tilt towards our side of the ship when it is docked or when it is sailing. The shower's design has the drainage in a higher slope than the shower's door. The concierge's immediate recommendation is to put towels on the floor each time we showered.until their crew engineers are available to analyze the problem. After a day of no resolution, we brought this up to the cruise general manager. He schedule 3 crews members to come & looked inside our suite and determine a quick fix. He ensured the room would be sanitized & cleaned from the leftover scum from the shower. Also on the 2 days we wanted to sleep in, our butler would knock on our door & will call repeatedly til we answered - the 1st time he inadvertently read the do not disturb sign as make our room to be ready (similar color code) and the second time was he had misread delivering breakfast time. Finally, on the 5th day of the cruise, as we suggested (I am a civil engineer), they installed a higher barrier on the shower door so water would not drain out onto the floors . So we were finally able to enjoy our room with privacy for the remaining one and 1/2 days of our cruise - so we thought! They inadvertently did not inform everyone that they were going to shut down the water in the room & you cannot flush the toilet since work will be done between midnight & 6 am throughout the ship. We only found out about it because we called after getting back from the casino at 2 am. Yup, we flew in from California (14 hour flight) to spent thousands of dollars on the cruise to only enjoy our suite for 1 day. The reason we book suites or haven on our previous cruises was to enjoy the amenities - on this cruise we did not get what we paid for. The positive part of this cruise is we enjoyed the great service of the waitress & waiter (they work 7 days a week for 12 to 13 hours daily) and despite not having the usage of our suite, we enjoyed each others company. Hopefully our cruise to Singapore next month would be better. Read Less

We choose the NCL Epic from previous experience on the Jade few years ago that was very good for family with kids. But the Epic was very disappointing, the room was tiny and not comfortable. We ordered a balcony room for family and the shower is in the entrance of the room with only curtain that gives you privacy. The sink is in the middle of the room. After opening the bed there is no way to the balcony. And if got stuck outside the room 30 min until maintenance came to change batteries in the lock. The show except the circus are not for kids. And if you want to see something in the circus show you have to pay 50$ for person to see something. The bowling is fron age 6 and cost 7$ for a player which not written anywhere until you get there. The buffet is ok but not something to remember. As I wrote at rhe beginning we choose the NCL because they are known for their freestyle cruises and spouse to be for families but except for the youth program (Splash) and few slides at the pool we didn't find something truly exciting. We chose this cruise mainly for the itinerary but also in the past RC has been good. This was my 50th birthday trip and I expressed this upon making our reservation. On the 2nd day my husband went to guest services bc no one had acknowledged my birthday. He was told that they would send a bottle of champagne to dinner. We never saw that champagne. RC couldn't even give me a 5 cent balloon or card to say happy birthday yet others were being acknowledged in the dining room. We were disappointed in the quality of food in all 'free' venues. We also felt the alcohol prices and excursion prices were ridiculous. RC is likely discussing how to further charge passengers for use of pool towels and toilet paper. I would not recommend this ship or brand to anyone. This was my 9th cruise and definitely my last with RC. Read Less

This was our ninth cruise and the second time on NCL. Our first was on the charming, older, much smaller Norwegian Spirit which we thoroughly enjoyed. We had read about the design problems with the Epic but the timing and itinerary worked well for us. First, the positives: the staff were excellent from our steward to the main dining room staff to the pool waiters. The ports were why we cruised - Naples, Rome, Florence-Pisa, Cannes, and Palma de Mallorca were all great. We did our own excursions - none through NCL. Embarkation and debarkation were smooth at Barcelona. We arrived at the port about 11:15 and were on board by noon. We had carry-on bags only and were able to drop them in our stateroom (9035) by about 12:30. Food on board was acceptable. We ate most nights in the Manhattan main dining room. One night we went to the included Chinese restaurant Shanghai which was mediocre. We did not use any of the specialty restaurants. We took in the ballroom dance show and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and enjoyed both. It is worth booking in advance. Now the the negatives. This is by far the worst designed, worst laid out ship we have been on by far, Our balcony stateroom felt more cramped than any other. You cannot pass each other because of the curved design of the oversized couch. The split shower, toilet, sink bathroom area is just stupid. The main restaurant and shops decks - 5,6, and 7 are way over dominated by the casino which seems to go on forever - with the very loud simging machines reaching all directions. That is especially true in the Taste main dining room which is open to the casino and noise from the deck above. Just what you want while dining - the constant ding, ding, ding from the slot machines above. In fact it is hard to find any quiet lounge or sitting areas on this large noisy ship. The bottom line: The Epic is a big disappointment for multiple reasons. I would not recommend this ship. Epic Fail! Read Less

The food was super salty, same thing every day salad bar, hotdogs and hamburgers for lunch, greasy sausages and bacon. Oily omelette. Wait staff was disengaged and not friendly. Got torn towels and sheets and when they were reported, replaced by torn towels again. Nickel and dime for everything. Main dining room had same menu except for 2 appetizers or main course. Adult pool was a hot tub, far from being a pool. To many issues...the ship is tired and unkempt, many places with paint chipped off, every time we came back onboard after a port at least one elevator was out of service. Plastic plates in at the Garden cafe are gross and there is always a smell Nof eggs on them. Had the beverage package and couldn't get bottled water as it was a premium item but a can of red bull was available. Senseless. Bar staff by the pool only see the young girls that waive a $1bill and not anyone else. The ship looks run down and tired. The fact that they pick up passengers along the way provided little sense of security as you end up carrying your own baggage because it can easily go missing. Read Less

I was excited to experience a cruise with Norwegian as I have a friend who works for Norwegian and I heard great things about the service. Embarking was quick and easy. The staff was down right rude with the exception of the restaurants and spa personnel. The cabin was decent in size, I had a balcony which was nice. The food was pretty good. A lot of other guests complained about the service too and were surprised. Some of the excursions were not as great either. They were just trying to take up time, rather than being of quality. I didn’t get the birthday treats they promised. They broke my luggage and never sent a survey. I contacted customer service and it took a month to hear back. I had two cruises planned (for next yr over 8k) with them and I just canceled them. I was really disappointed in the service received. Read Less

We chose this cruise for our 10-year wedding anniversary and opted for the Haven. I really enjoyed the embarkation process where we were taken to a separated, less chaotic area. Though, I don't know that I would book the Haven again. I know that I wouldn't book the Epic or this itinerary again. We live in Europe, so have been to all the ports except Majorca. The ship was awful. I didn't like that the elevators only stop on certain levels and you HAVE to walk through the casino, which stank of smoke, to go to the Atrium if you are in the back of the ship. The layout was very confusing and you can tell it was made by a French company. Even some of the main levels, you had to walk in a certain direction or else you would reach a dead-end. Normally, the cruise ships are very predictable in how they are laid out (I've been on 8+ now), but it took me days to get my bearings on this ship. This was exacerbated by the people on board. I've never seen so many strollers. When you have 4,000+ passengers, it gets old. The atrium was the main thoroughfare for pretty much everything. Even the quizzes took place in the atrium (which were few and far between). If you sat in the back, you could not see the screen with question, so really, it's a poor area to host a quiz (or any game). The cabins were also odd as a curtain separated the bathroom from our bedroom. We liked the aft-facing balcony but the room itself was lackluster. The ports were meh. If you have only one chance to come to Europe, this may be the itinerary for you. But, otherwise, it's disappointing. We've cruised out of "Rome" before so knew that it takes about 2 hours each way to get to the city. But, almost all the ports were like this. Naples was an exception, but that's only if you want to go to Naples (not Capri, Sorrento, Vesuvius, Pompeii, etc.). The main entertainment was good. I'm not a fan of dancing shows but we had nothing else to do and so went. It was impressive. The howl at the moon was awesome!!! Karaoke was disappointing as all the slots were complete (even by kids in an 18+ club) an hour in. We both loved Priscilla Queen of the Desert! The Cirque show was not as great as some of the others we have seen on other ships and not even better than some of the regular, free entertainment. Plus, the food was not worth it. I think because this was also a one-stop European vacation for most passengers. Although the passengers were polite, most were concerned about ports rather than joining in. This is one of the highlights of most of our cruises- as we tend to make friends and keep in touch with the people we meet. We met nobody on this cruise. There were such little activities going on (boring!) and then few people actually joined. I've cruised the smaller ships and tend to favour them now, but they have to cap the wine tastings because they are well attended (despite the added cost). We sat at the tasting time and just needed 2 more people to show up. Nope! Nobody showed up and the tasting did not make. All activities were poorly attended. We really didn't take advantage of the Haven much. Our butler came and brought us food (though we didn't eat much of it because of our dietary requirements). The concierge was very nice and went above and beyond in a personal instance. He even got us in to a full excursion. We laid out in the Haven pool area one day only and I went to the gym there once. The restaurant (ate at twice for dinner) was actually worth going to more than the specialty restaurants as the food was superior. In particular, the cuts of meat and the attention to the food quality was worth going. Though, the menu didn't change. I do enjoy going to see the main dining menu to see what's new each night on other cruises. Oddly enough, my favourite part of the entire cruise was the Haven bartender. After our first night, he knew us by name and would ask us if we wanted our usual. He made the best dirty martinis and was so funny! He came to know our patterns for ordering drinks pre-dinner, during dinner, and after. Fab! A couple additional perks of the Haven that I learned on board (above the seating in the theatre)- you have priority over some of the elevators so you wait less and it comes directly to you AND you have easy disembarkation for each port/final stop. We always take advantage of the Thermal Suite Pass on board. I think this is why we didn't use the Haven much. As it's an outlet for the 18+ year olds and so peaceful. I love the heated chairs and often that's my nap area. The hot tubs and saunas were so relaxing. On the Baltic cruise I took, this area was packed and crowded by the end of the cruise. But, on this itinerary, it was nearly empty every day. I believe, again, that this is due to the types of passengers on the ship. When you only get one sea day and excursions that demand hours of your time, there's hardly anyone on board. While the staff were very friendly (my husband saw his favourite coffee lady who we will see again on our next cruise), I hated how the passengers tended to talk down to them and treat them as if they should be at their feet. These people work long and hard and I wish people respected them more. Even if you have an issue, most of the time, it's not their fault. For instance, I didn't like that we got a $50 voucher for the spa due to our anniversary. But, we couldn't use it with any other promotion (such as our 25% off due to our thermal pass or the % off we get at gold status). NCL- Don't use our anniversary as a marketing ploy. We told the staff this, but knew it was not them that came up with the idea. Next, I know NCL is all for going green, but don't get rid of the towel animals. Change my towels less or let me opt into the towel animals rather than getting new towels daily. This has always been a favourite of mine- I have tons of pictures of all the animals from all of our cruises. But, I had to request them (which took days in a 7 day cruise). Don't cheap out on what we love NCL. Lastly, while most of the crew carried the experience, the cruise director was disappointing. I forgot her name already- Amanda from the UK or something? I saw her once- while we were disembarking. All other NCL staff have always been so involved. My last cruise was December 2019 so it's not like things have changed over the years. Read Less

This was our ninth cruise, third with NCL. I am rating it poor simply because of the issues with the cabin, described later. We chose this cruise because friends had already booked this sailing. This was our first cruise in The Haven and we were hoping for every good thing we've heard about The Haven and we were not disappointed. The experience was awesome, from the minute we checked in until we disembarked we were treated like royalty. Our butler, Helbert, brought us a pitcher of ice water daily, made sure we had milk in the fridge for morning coffee. When we returned to our cabin after excursions, he had left a snack (fruit or sandwiches) along with some sweets for us. The concierge, Omar, lived up to his reputation. He is perfect in that position. We ate in The Haven restaurant for most meals and the food was fantastic, service was excellent. Sharmila and Remi were our favorites, but everyone was friendly and provided great service. While we spent most of our time in The Haven area, all of our dealings with any crew members were pleasant. The washy-washy ladies when entering the Cafe could bring a smile to anyone's face. Other than the specialty dining, we had every meal in The Haven. We chose Cagney's, La Cucina and Moderno for our specialty dining and the food was fantastic. Service in La Cucina was a little slow, but the food made up for it. As for the entertainment, I walked out of Priscilla Queen of the Desert after about 20 minutes, as did many other people. My husband stayed hoping it would get better but it didn't. We had late reservations for Burn the Floor on the last night of the cruise, but had to skip it because of an 0615 disembarkation to catch our flight. We didn't participate in many activities around the ship because we preferred the solitude of The Haven and our cabin. There were a lot of children on this cruise and many of them were running around unsupervised and/or undisciplined. Since we had booked a Spa Suite, we also had access to the Thermal Spa. There wasn't much time to enjoy the spa on this cruise, but we did manage to get there twice and found it very relaxing and peaceful. The entire area was clean and well maintained. Read Less

I chose this holiday to take all my family who live in different parts of Europe on a cruise where we could all be together. The poor things outweighed the pluses , I would never do it again. The pools were inadequate, too many people using a small area . many of the guests refused to let their children use them. This should have been the centre stage for the trip but it wasn't comfortable. Always packed and difficult to find chairs. No crew bothering to see who were not using the beds occupied all day with towels which weren't used. The cabins were Ok but that's all. Food was fine, no complaints. Embarkation and disembarkation excellent. Entertainment good. The problem with this ship is that the on deck facilities aren't sufficient for the number of passengers. Had that been better then it would have made a huge difference to our holiday. We also had some issues relating to NCL general terms and conditions and found their later dealing with our complaint unsatisfactory. There were always long queues at guest relations desk so if you needed the simplest of requests or answers you had to expect a long wait. NCL should invest in better on deck facilities and give their Guest relations teams both on board and in London better training in customer service. Our children enjoyed the rides and there were many good things about the ship. yet as I stated the bad outweighed the good. Irregular Kev Read Less

We chose the Epic for its itinerary, which worked out very well. The ports visited allowed us to get a great overview of Europe for our first time to the area. Waking up in a new destination each morning without having to pack and unpack or the stress of organizing transportation between destinations was fantastic and our primary reason for taking this cruise. As a mobile hotel room the cruise worked well. The cruise itself had little else to offer. We have stayed at multiple all inclusive resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean and the Epic did not come close to the resort experiences we have at in those land based vacations (which admittedly may not be a fair comparison). The food on the Epic did not meet expectations. We ate at 3 specialty restaurants, both main dining rooms and the buffet. Cagney's and Le Bistro were better than the rest but far from excellent or memorable. If they were restaurants near my home I would not return after eating there the first time. Our meal at La Cocina was not good especially given the premium paid. The main dining rooms had uniformly poor service with staff that was a mix of inexperienced staff with poor training and seasoned staff with less than stellar skills or motivation. The food ranged from inedible to passable with not one appetizer or entree being a standout. Our family of four would generally have one of four appetizers and entrees being good, 2 OK, and one really bad at each meal. A buffet breakfast is usually a fantastic start to a vacation day and hard to mess up. There were some good items here, but my wife appropriately compared the quality to the free breakfast at a Holiday Inn. The entertainment options were generally poor. Our teenage kids often stated that they were bored after dinner. They would go off and wander on their own for an hour but invariably end up back at the room well before we expected them. The two shows offered in the theater were not to our taste. We did go to see Queen of the Desert but left after an hour, not because of the subject matter (which did send many guests headed to the exits early in the show) but because the show was long and not entertaining. The pools are incredibly tiny, warm, crowded and oddly cloudy. Our stateroom metal ceiling panels rattled so much that we had to wedge sneakers in to prevent being woken up at night. Our room only had hot water in the sink. The customer service desk was a complete disaster with huge lines at all times even 3 days into the trip. We frequently received wrong information or contradictory information from different crew members. It felt like a bad department of motor vehicles parody. You would get to the front of the line only to be told you were waiting in the wrong line. After switching lines you would be directed back to the first line you were in. This happened more than once. There were many more small issues that would have been minor by themselves but when taken as a pattern showed a lack of commitment to customer service or a desire to please the traveler. There was some positive. The ship and our room were very clean. The bathroom layout, while odd, worked very well for us. Someone could be showering while someone else was using the toilet and a third person was brushing their teeth all at the same time. A great setup when rushing to get to and excursion or a dinner reservation. The balcony in our room was large and relatively private. The flip down bed gave each of the kids their own space without having to share a bed. Embarkation and disembarkation were incredibly easy, with no lines and efficient and timely handling of our luggage. We used room service breakfast a few mornings as a time saver when we had an early excursion and they were right on time. Overall our experience was fair to poor. We may just not be cruise people. If I was to try a cruise again we would book with a different line in hopes of a better on ship experience. Read Less

I booked this cruise to be part of the Weight Watcher (WW) Mediterranean Cruise in July. My friend had never been to Europe so we thought this would be a great experience to see several different ports in Spain, France, and Italy and get to meet WW members from around the world. I have been on several different cruise lines over the past 6 years including: Norwegian, Holland America, and Oceania and the MSC cruise was a huge step down in the areas of Dining and Service. The ship is brand new, launched in 2018, and it's beautiful. It has 20 decks and holds up to 5,200 passengers. It's a floating apartment building, complete with their own app that was used to book theater showings, maps of the different decks, and a daily schedule for events. There were abundant activities for families like 3 pools, a water park, and even a zip line on top. There are several restaurants and a buffet. The theater holds almost a thousand guests per performance and there are three 30-35 minute performances each night. The dining experience was our greatest disappointment. The food that WW had specially prepared for us, was bland and boring. We decided to eat at the ship buffet and it was basic cafeteria food, with a heavy emphasis on pork and fish. The food was fresh, but not exciting at all. I was amazed at how many little extras were not included: such as ice cream and iced tea. The shows were the best part of the cruise and we went to every one of them. Nice scenery, interesting themes, colorful costumes, great singers and acrobatic acts. No stand up comedy, thank goodness. Entertainment in the lounges was fine too. Service was poor. On-boarding was confused at best. We were in a special group and they didn't really seem to know about it when we arrived. We got through the process and our luggage was delivered in a timely fashion. We NEVER met our steward. We never received ice, although we had an ice bucket, and the turn down-service didn't include the little chocolates and fun towel animals found on every other cruise line. Information desk staff were rather curt with people and seemed stressed most of the time. Long lines were found at the different service areas, such as Excursions and Front Desk Assistance. You were pretty much on your own to figure things out on the ship. If you asked a question, you were often referred to their app. Disembarkation was a terrible mess, the ship was late docking and everyone was asked to leave their rooms anyway and we were kept in lounges waiting to leave for almost two hours. We stood in line for almost an hour after we docked before we could leave the ship. By that time people were upset and getting impatient with very little staff helping to ease the situation. We booked tours for almost all of them through the ship. One of our tours was cancelled and no one let us know until the evening before. I happened to see were weren't booked on their app and went to inquire about it. I was told there wasn't enough interest so it was cancelled and thankfully found a different tour that still had space. Ports were as expected. They were ok to good. The half day tours were hurried with no time for shopping or really getting off the bus, except to take a few hasty photos. The day excursions to Florence and Rome were better. We had knowledgeable tour guides and were able to see as much as possible given the time constraints. The prices were average compared to other ships. I usually book my own excursions through Viator and you get more value for your money. I love to cruise, but I would not book with MSC again. They have a lovely ship, but the Service was not good and the Dining experience was just average. Read Less

Some of the restaurant team members, including supervisors at Taste restaurant were very rude and unprofessional. Menu stayed the same for 6 days, except the last day on board. Bathroom always smelled urine even just after room was cleaned. Pools are small, dirty and always overcowed. Poor entertainment programs. Port and shore excursions were overpriced, not many options. There were very few photographers, poor potrait photography sessions and or setting. Pictures came out plain and borring. Very friendly and good services by room steward, his name: August. Friendly and good services at The Garden buffet restaurant. Good selections of food, drinks and fruits. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. Overall, this cruise was not worth our time and money. Kids did not like it. Adults were very disappointed about the food, entertainments, port and shore excursions and the overall services. We will not recommend this cruise to any of our friends and or families. Read Less

My family and I choose this cruise because we want to try a different cruise line plus we want to do the free style cruising and the Mediterranean was on our bucket list and boy we where super excited.. We flew into Barcelona two days earlier to explore the city and it didn’t disappoint us , the food , the people and the tours was amazing . Embarkation and Disembarkation was super smooth but getting to our room was a little confusing . Entering the hallway towards our room it smell like wet carpet or Sewage and I mean it smell like that every day . After entering our room it was ok nothing to be crazy about the bed had long hairs underneath the covers and mirrors look like it hasn’t been clean for weeks , there where dust on the furniture so we had to call for them to come back to Re-clean the room , but the view from our balcony on the 14deck was amazing . I have been in the customer service business for over 25 years and a few of the staff at the front deck , the way they talking to customer was super unprofessional and disrespectful and you do not talk to guests like you are annoying or mad at them because they have question or a problem that’s why you’re their to help ok and if you don’t like your job quit . The guys at the pool bar was on point especially Michael he was amazing he remember my name and what my wife and I drink all the time . So my wife and I Celebrate our 16 years Wedding Anniversary and it was her birthday also so we when for dinner at La Bistro the food and the wine was amazing and our sever (April) was fantastic she was attentive and always Smiling. The entertainment on the boat was ok . The Magic show was a little lame . My son he’s 15 and he didn’t even wanna go back to the teens club because he said it was lame and boring . Breakfast suck because everyday it’s the lame things over and over . The port of call was amazing except Naples , it was dirty and smelly and the people are super rude . If i end up back in Naples I would rather stay on the boat or take a trip down to Pompeii . Rome was one of our favorite stop because of the rich history and I advise anyone who wants to take a tour of the Colosseum you will need to book a tour guide if not you will be there all day in the long lines . Overall we had fun on all of our excursion but be advice wear some comfortable walking shoes.. Read Less

The biggest issue is that we booked air travel though Norwegian. Big mistake. We were traveling with friends who also booked travel though Norwegian, and our reservations were linked. Our flights were changed 3 times, and did not sync with the e-docs. This required us to call every few days for a month leading up to the cruise. Why? Because according to the airlines, when we went to pick our seats and confirm our meals, Norwegian booked the tickets but didn't issue them. Meaning we could show up to the airport and have no flight. Customer service was terrible, we got responses from, 'we don't even see you on the manifest for the boat' to 'are you sure we booked air travel with us because I don't see a record of it' to several 'we can't help you today call back when our internal system updates' to the always not helpful 'you need to call so and so department, and I can't transfer you' We even got hung up on by a customer service representative because it was at the end of the work day. Speaking of holds, wait times were at least 45, with the longest being 2 and a half hours. Nothing was resolved until two days before the trip. Big picture, nothing is worth that stress and Norwegian straight up didn't care. No one offered to solve our issues and everything was always put back onto us to fix, even though according to them, they would book our fights and all we had to do was check in. We got $50 dollars worth of onboard credit for literally dozens of hours of work. Pathetic. Boat - big and full of rooms. In room entertainment was terrible. Shows were great - Priscilla Queen of the Desert and the Cirque Du Soleil show were great. Biggest casino I've ever seen on a boat. Food was good overall, the Irish pub could have been better. The spa was great, would recommend. The mediterranean ports are all very beautiful. Read Less

We hardly slept due to our cabin being very close to major building works on board. Power tools were being used all night, every night. We had to move cabins 3 times until we got some sleep. “Jose” the guest relations manager told us that the work could not be done in port because of the loudness and the fire risk! So it had to be done whilst at sea. I expressed that it was obvious that passengers were not a priority and the work should not be undertaken if it affected passengers. I was so tired that I was unfit to go on any excursions. Other members of our group of 8 also experienced the noise of building works. This was a ruined holiday and we were offered only 200 dollars to spend on board- an insult after a ruined holiday. We are booked on the Norwegian jade next January, but as the works are being carried out across the fleet, I will probably be cancelling the trip. Other areas of the cruise were very good. Food and service was excellent, the entertainment magnificent and the choice of bars and restaurants was fantastic. The ship stopped at great ports and the excursions offered plenty of choice. The cabins have plenty of storage and the beds are very comfortable. Our steward was fantastic and the cabin was spotless. Read Less

We booked a balcony cabin and were given 9008 which turns out to e what they call an enclosed balcony, this was supposed to be an upgrade but was basically like being on a ferry. A steel enclosed area with an opening that was a wind tunnel. Could not sit out there at all, no sun at all and you could not see anything unless you stood by The porthole. The bedroom is weird, sink is in main bedroom area so if you go the toilet at night, you have to wake your partner when washing your hands. Bizarre Epic is a very large ship, too big for us as always seemed loud and noisy, some people obviously like that atmosphere but we prefer the NCL star which was more our style. Because it was so big it was difficult to get places at shows. They also have a cinema screen right at reception which when showing a film is so very loud, when eating at O’Sheehans one floor up you can hear the film as it is all open atrium. Again if this is what you like but not for us. On all cruises I like to walk around the deck each day to look out and get exercise but on Epic they have a running/walking track that only runs half of one side of the ship. No way to go all round and nowhere to sit and read or watch the world go by. All in all it would have been fine had we had the balcony we were expecting as this is where I usually spend most of my time but this spoilt the experience for us. Obviously people expect different things from cruises but as a couple this was not for us. Read Less
