We selected this cruise for Vikings reputation and our desire to explore the Western Mediterranean. From the moment we stepped on board we were treated with great curtesy and everyone was so helpful. Our cabin was well appointed and so comfortable with wonderful views. The entertainment was so enthusiastic and fun to watch. We looked forward to every opportunity to attend a performance. We enjoyed the crew interacting with the passengers. Everyone we met had only positive praise for the ship and it's qualities. The comfort was everywhere. Each port held an adventure that we will remember for a very long time. We had so much fun at Torre A Cenaia winery and farm on our Florence stop. We made delicious foccacia bread and biscotti which we consumed with free flowing wine. This is a must do adventure. We felt like we were part of Tuscany and not just a tourist. We would recommend this trip for anyone who wants to feel relaxed and spoiled. Every meal was delicious and we had an unforgettable anniversary dinner at the chef's table with a special anniversary cake. Thank you Viking! Read Less

This was our second trip on the Viking Star having been on the Baltic Cruise in July 2015. The ship was very well taken care of. It was like a five star hotel with amenities and tours included at every port. The tours introduced you to the port and took you all around to the sights by foot or on buses. The cabins are very roomy with full size closets, bathroom with heated floors, a large flat screen tv on which they had TED talks and the workshops given on the ship. They are decorated quite nicely. The bedding is excellent and each room has a nice balcony with two comfortable chairs and a table where you can have a meal and enjoy the views. The food is excellent, like the finest restaurants. Plus 24 hour Room Service. They offer a full schedule of events each day and a wonderful tea time. All around the ship are musical presentations. The piano player was superb. In addition the entertainment crew were excellent and performed on many nights in various venues. This is not a ship for children. It does not have a casino but we didnt miss it at all. It is just what a retired couple enjoys, peaceful days and evenings, relaxing shows, great niteclub entertainment and of course some quality shoppes. Everyone on the ship was accommodating. The steward was excellent and a big help to meet our needs. As I said this was our second trip and we are already registered for a cruise to Alaska and looking forward to it. The transfer to the airport was very smooth. Our luggage was handled for us. Read Less

Had heard many good things about Viking and they did not disappoint. The staff was outstanding, the food was excellent and the cabin was roomy and immaculately clean. The itinerary of the Mediterranean cruise was a match to places we wanted to visit. A couple of the shore excursions were a little weak and the concierge staff on board did not always seem to be well informed about alternative options. However, everything else about the cruise was first class.Dining options were excellent and all were very good. A variety of entertainment options were available each night and some were very good. The design of the ship made you feel like you had plenty of space and were never crowded. We loved have a balcony with our room and spent many enjoyable hours watching the scenery while we enjoyed beverages. The Explorer Lounge was another favorite spot. Would highly recommend Viking to anyone considering a cruise. Read Less

We cruised from Barcelona right up to Stockholm on a back to back cruise involving 28 days, plus one week staying pre and post cruise, where we thoroughly explored both cities. Embarkation was very simple, after the short taxi ride we were overwhelmed by the Viking Star staff to help us with our baggage. Likewise on departure day, had it not have been raining we would have easily walked to our shore accommodation. The ship was new, beautifully presented, we particularly liked the Scandinavian style of interior decoration. Our cabin on level 5 was spacious, good balcony, big bathroom with wonderful heated flooring All restaurants were free of charge, including complimentary beer wine and soft drinks at meal times. Quality of food and selection was excellent and varied daily Nightly entertainment consisted of small stage productions, as well as a quality pianist and a three piece string ensemble, also a classical guitarist and a small nightclub with live music. Every staff member, in whichever field offered us excellent service The ports where you were within walking distance such as Barcelona, Gibraltar, lLisbon, Bordeaux,Bergen,Stavanger,Aalborg, Warnemunde, Stockholm enabled us to utilise Viking Ocean cruises industry leading port time. All ports offered complimentary tours, some more in depth than others. Overall Viking Ocean cruises offer a complete package and value for money, hard to beat Read Less

We are huge fans of Viking River Cruises, have taken 9 and thought it was time to try the new Ocean Cruise, and we were not disappointed. Viking know how to cruise, either River or Ocean. We have already booked out Ocean Cruise on Viking for next year... The only complaint I would have was that we could only dine in the special restaurants once. It was awesome and we would have liked to go back one more time. We thought the daily excursions were fantastic. our local guides were fabulous. The crew was professional, happy, and ready to help in anyway... You knew they were happy to work for Viking. Viking did a wonderful job selecting the crew. The food was wonderful. Loved the was we had a choice to dine in the main dining room or at the buffet for every meal. The choices were great for anyone. On a diet or not!! We also thought the ports were interesting and easy to get off the ship and explore. Read Less

Ship, the cabins, the food the facilities were all 1st class. Entertainment way above what was expected. We got to know the cruise director and some of his staff. The general manager took time to ask our opinions on the ship and all the activities. I found all the crew to be more than friendly going out of their way to not only speak but inquire about heath etc. The excursions were for the most part very informative and educational. The only draw back being the "free time" at the end of excursion. . This proved to be way too long as there was not much to do but shop a few "junk" stores. The fitness and spa area were outstanding having steam, hot tubs of different types and lounge areas. The equipment in the fitness center was the most modern that I have seen. For the ones of us that use this type equipment, it was just what the doctor ordered. The food has to be the best I have ever had on any ship, boat, or vacation spot. Breakfast was to order. My wife had a big decision every morning - a omelette or eggs Benedick. If you didn't want, there is always eggs any way. Of course the ice cream on board was a must every lunch and supper. The only draw back,is you have to be careful not to put on too much weight (back to the fitness center). Overall, I would like to board the ship right now, who cares where it is going. it will be great. Read Less

We chose Viking because we had excellent experiences on two river cruises (Southern France and China). We had sailed on the Viking Star earlier, but our cruise was cut short after 4 ports, so we were stuck in Tallinn, Estonia, for a week. Part of the compensation for that truncated voyage was vouchers for another voyage, which needed to be used in one year. So we used the vouchers for the Mediterranean Odyssey on the same ship. We really like the ship. The stateroom was very comfortable, and the food was very good. Entertainment was a little lacking. Previously on the Star, the classical trio was comprised of a flute, violin, and cello. They were wonderful. This time, we had a very good violinist, but the guitar and bass just accompanied him. Some of the shows were the same as we saw on the ship the previous time, and we weren't really interested in the Get Smart takeoff. The Torshaven was usually empty. I would suggest showing the complete opening hours instead of each 45-minute act listed separately in the daily letter. The best treat of the trip was the Rumba Catalana group which performed on board when we were in Barcelona. We also enjoyed the opera/contemporary group when we were somewhere in Italy. And the cruise director Willy's program was a wonderful surprise. As for the tours, some were good, but some were not up to Viking standards. It was clear that not everyone had the same experience; it depended on the local guide. Our guide for Pisa/Florence was terrible. Our guide for Dubrovnik was the best ever!! Some tours were a disappointment for other reasons. We didn't see much of Corfu, and the lagoon + St. Marco's tour in Venice was not what I expected. I thought we would be on a smaller boat going through the canals. (I didn't expect a gondola, though.) And the tour of San Marco was just a talk in the square. The local guide described the inside of the cathedral, but we didn't go in. And it would have been fun to wander through some of the streets over bridges. We like Viking, so we have booked two more trips, the West Indies Explorer and Passage through Western Europe (to see what we missed on the first trip). I hope that Viking can bring the shore excursions up to standard. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it included a number of cities we wanted to see, especially Barcelona, Rome, Naples, and Venice. Also, we were excited at bring on a ship that was in only its second year afloat. We enjoyed ourselves immensely, and had only a couple of minor complaints, which I will get to later. If you have cruised with Viking before (we did a river cruise some years ago), you know that it seems expensive in comparison to other lines--until you realize that Viking's price covers almost everything while other lines are full of add-on costs that bring the final expense of the trip up to virtually the same as Viking's. Their promos promise luxury and great service, and they truly deliver! The ship itself was new and spotless, and the crew and staff were as friendly and competent and eager to please as one could wish for. I especially enjoyed the ambience of the restaurants and the service of the staff there. The Chef's table was my favorite spot--it served me the best steak I have ever has--but all of the restaurants had great food. There was no requirement to eat in a certain place or at a certain time, and wait times, when they occurred, were minimal. The spa was great--and free--for the basics: hot tub, pool, sauna, and snow room (complaint number one for us is that the snow room was under repair on two of the three days we went to the spa). In every port there was a free excursion as well as those that had a fee. We went on all of the complimentary jaunts except in Naples and Split. We went to Pompeii and were awed by it despite the cold, and we had a great river trip in Split. Both excursions combined cost less than $160 U.S.Skip the walking tour in Toulon but take the harbor cruise if you like boats. Corfu is a pretty place but the town doesn't warrant a tour. Visit the fort and then shop some! Finally, unless you have more stamina than we did, don't try to go on all of the shore excursions. Pace yourself and enjoy the serenity of the ship. Read Less

We previously did two river cruises with Viking. This was our first ocean cruise with them and we will definitely do another. We're waiting for them to go to New Zealand and Australia! The Viking Star is a beautiful ship. We stayed in a Penthouse Suite and absolutely loved our room. The heated floors in the bathroom (so nice since we sailed in March), very comfortable king size bed, plenty of storage space, nice sitting area, mini bar, spacious balcony. Every crew member was always ready to help with a smile on their face. The spa was fun - we were able to use it even though we didn't purchase a separate service which was really nice as most cruise lines won't let you use the facilities unless you buy a service. We used the wet sauna and snow grotto twice, envigorating! All the food served on the ship was delicious. The food and wine pairings at Chef's Table were a lot of fun - especially for foodies. We also really enjoyed Manfredi's - great atmosphere. We are early to rise/early to bed so we didn't take part in any of the evening entertainment but it did all sound good. We did a few of the provided excursions, but the majority of what we did was paid excursions because we wanted to see more than what was in the local area. All of the tours were very interesting and the local guides were excellent. We highly recommend Viking Ocean Cruises. Read Less

We have always wanted to go to Italy, but this cruise gave us a broad view of the Mediterranean. We loved the ship, our cabin, and the overall experience. It is different than the long ship and river experience. But, we found it relaxing and well planned. The service was excellent and dining options were welcome and most enjoyable. We liked the Chef's Table, the restaurant and the pool grill. We particularly enjoyed the experience in the Chef's Table as the selected menus for both of our dinners were perfect and the wine wonderful. We spent time in the Explorer's lounge where we could read and rest in peace. We enjoyed hearing and seeing Willie Aames our Cruise Director. He was a joy. The shore excursions were great, just the right length and since we have not been in any of the countries it was a pleasure. We loved Barcelona and Venice, but the other ports were good experiences. We selected the visit to a private palace in Venice for a night of opera. What a wonderful experience. Our guide was great and we enjoyed the evening walk through the neighborhood where we got to see local people spending their evening. We were frustrated that we didn't have more time in Rome, but that can be a future adventure. Each port was interesting. While we had challenges with the local guides using the audio boxes, we made it work. As senior citizens, this was a perfect experience and balance of events, excursions, food and down-time. We would definitely go again. Read Less

This was our first cruise experience. We booked the cruise directly with Viking before the Viking Star was launched. Our choice to book the Viking Star was based upon Viking's reputation and three other couples booked the same cruise at the same time and our cabins were all near each other. It was great fun watching the progress of the Viking Star and the regular updates from Viking made the whole pre-trip experience great fun. The video's of the ship kept us excited. We flew into Barcelona three day's early and really enjoyed the city. We were really impressed with the boarding process. Our state room was ready and we were very pleased when we saw it for the first time "in-person". The bathroom was really outstanding (shower was great). Plenty of room for the two us with all our stuff!!! The veranda was nice, unfortunately, the weather was little too cool to really enjoy sitting outside. The public rooms on board were beautiful. Especially enjoyed the Explorer Lounge. The dinning experience, where ever we dined was excellent. The choices were fun and the service was great, friendly and informative. We enjoyed the optional excursions. They were well organized, informative and fun. However, we would not recommend Pompeii - nothing to do with the guide. Just disappointing - not well maintained, to many fences for good photo's and lunch options were not very good. On the other hand, we would have enjoyed more time/days in Dubrovnik. Just a great stop with a terrific guide. We would have liked another day! All in all, the cruise was a wonderful experience. Viking you did it right! Read Less

We had taken several Viking River Cruises previously and were excited by the prospect of being on what appeared to be a beautiful ocean liner. We were not disappointed. The dining was exceptional and we were especially pleased with Manfredi's. Although you have to make a reservation at Manfredi's, we were able to go twice and should have gone more often. The dining experience exceeded any top rated restaurant at which I had previously dined. Our accomodations were excellent and we were so happy to have internet access in our room and to be able to communicate with the folks back home. The internet access and speeds were a real step up from that available on our previous river cruises. The spa availability and features was also delightful. I've never been in a "snow grotto" before and it was very neat. The included shore tours were very good and the tour guides were excellent. Also did a few optional tours and they were great. Fun planning it for over a year! Lived up to our best expectations. Barcelona was a good starting point. Lots to see and explore. Toulon was a rather weak stop, but the tour guide (as was the case with ALL the guides) was excellent and really knew her stuff. The tour buses were generally quite nice and never crowded. It was nice to have a little "priority pass" into some popular attractions, also. The weather ended up being better than we imagined for early March. It was a good time to tour for crowds but the landscape and bird watching was diminished because of it. I would liked to have spent more time in Rome (too much to see and not enough time), but it was a good taste of what was there should we ever get the opportunity to visit again. Viking was extra cautious with where we were going. We had booked an excursion to see the top of Mt. Vesuvius, but they had experienced a heavy rainfall and Viking cancelled the tour to avoid possible mudslides. We never were crowded on the ship, even during popular lunch or dinner times in the restaurants. Viking seems to have everything figured out as far as amenities on the cruise. Loved that excursions were included; loved the organized tours; loved the layout of the ship; loved the attention to detail and little things that go a step above many other cruise lines. One unfortunate thing that happened to be aware of is the airport in Venice was not fully staffed at 4:15 a.m. when we flew out. We were unable to recoup sales tax on a couple big ticket items since no one was available to properly process our request. We came home with a few hundred dollars less than we anticipated. An insignificant poor ending to a wonderfully fulfilling trip of a lifetime! Thanks, VIking! Read Less

Viking has one-upped the small ship cruise line. In the past 2 years we've taken 2 river cruises on Viking and both were outstanding. This ocean cruise exceeded our lofty expectations. The ship, service, food, and accommodations were the best. It was big enough that you never felt crowded yet still maintained the intimacy afforded by the river cruise boats. We stayed in a Junior penthouse suite which afforded dramatic views while in port. Our room steward could not have been more friendly and attentive. His attention to detail and fulfilling some special requests were handled very efficiently. There was never any issue with laundry, room cleanliness, or restocking. The cruise began in Barcelona and ended in Venice. Along the way we stopped in Toulon, Monte Carlo, Rome, Naples, Corfu, Dubrovnik, and Split. The shore excursions provided included general sight seeing tours as well as optional site specific destinations. They were well organized with knowledgeable local guides. For the most part, we never felt rushed and were given ample time to explore on our own. Viking employees take great pride in their service and attention to detail. i don't remember the exact ratio of ship personnel to guests but there never was a time where we had to wait for anything. They were a diverse group, many of Eastern European decent and their sense of humor combined with their sense of "duty" was evidenced regardless of the time of day or night. We've been raving about this cruise since we returned. Read Less

Prior excellent experience with Viking River cruises and disappointment with the pricing structure and size of other ocean cruise lines were the primary reasons we chose Viking Star. I appreciated having included shore excursions at each port (and they were excellent tours). The optional excursions were also excellent. There was never a wait for seating at meals. Variety and quality of food was excellent. Entertainment was low key and high quality. Appreciated that there was no casino and no ship's photographer hounding us. It was nice to not pay extra for water! On board lectures were interesting, but could have had more focus on the history of the areas we travelled through, especially the Balkans. The ship was a nice size with all the amenities we enjoy. It never seemed crowded. The cabin was roomy but could have used more storage space for clothing. The bathroom was excellent - much larger than previous ships we have been on. Our flights over and back (arranged through Viking) were inexpensive and excellent. Non-stop Seattle to Paris, an easy change to the short hop to Barcelona (service on the Delta leg was decidedly better than the Air France leg. Returning was smooth, except for an endless process to get through customs in Atlanta (avoid at all costs). Viking arranged to fly us back from Munich, rather than Venice (we took the train from Venice to Munich - a lovely trip (puts US train service to shame). I have already booked another Viking Ocean cruise. Read Less

The ports of call and the on shore excursions offering were very good for the most part, squeezing a good bit of activity in a short period of time. We are looking forward to our next vacation on the Viking Ocean cruise this coming December. On our first cruise the weather could have cooperated a bit more since it was in the Spring, but that is not the fault of the cruise line but the inexperience of the traveler, as we were anticipating warmer and dryer weather. This was my first cruise and Viking exceeded my expectations on many levels. All I had to do was show-up and enjoy myself. The layout and size of the ship was very well designed. I did not feel “compartmentalized” and all areas are easily reached. A larger ship would compensate this personalization that Viking has truly achieved. I sensed Viking knew what they were doing when I was able to pre-arrange much online. The red carpet welcome, the endless smiling faces, and the dedication to my service truly makes Viking the standard. It’s notable that the friendliness and cooperation existed between the staff personnel. Internet service was lacking the high speed connectivity but this is an issue industry wide. The Viking Daily was a much appreciated feature. I enjoyed the port summary, listing of daily events, and personalized excursion information. As a suggestion, Viking might consider the Viking Daily information on a TV channel. I was impressed with the historical knowledge of all the tour guides. In addition, I found them to be friendly and concerned about us as a group. Disembarkation was a breeze which demonstrated Viking’s organizational skills. Embarkation was exceptional. Who wouldn’t feel good being greeted on the red carpet with smiling faces and a warm “Welcome back” greeting? The heated hand towels were a pleasant surprise. American airlines could learn a lesson in customer service from Viking. There was no room in the overhead compartment for my 12” x 18” x 10” carry on. Why? Because American airlines failed to have inconsiderate passengers check their oversized luggage. I was unable to stretch my legs because my carry on was under the seat in front of me. I am 5’9” and 160 pounds and I travelled eight hours in a near fetal position. I found the cabin to be very accommodating. It was spacious with adequate storage and closet space. The bathroom more than met my needs. It was constantly restocked. The shower was an adequate size and the lighting bright. I fell asleep within minutes in the very comfortable and spacious bed. There was also a sofa, chairs, and table which we used frequently. Dining on the Viking Star was exceptional. From the elegant to the casual, there wasn’t any disappointment. Fresh quality food was served every day. Care for something a little to your liking? Not a problem. The chefs were proud to graciously accommodate you. Hand sanitizers at every restaurant entrance demonstrated Viking’s commitment to a safe eating experience. In conclusion, I would sail on Viking tomorrow if possible! Quality, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and a dedication to my enjoyment is what Viking is all about. There are other cruise ships but Viking surely makes the difference. Thank you Viking for a terrific vacation. Read Less

Having enjoyed several Viking River cruises, we decided to try Viking Ocean's 15 day Barcelona to Barcelona cruise. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. The onboard staff was, almost without exception, attentive and solicitous. The only exception was breakfast in the dining room on one of the "sea" days: we waited an hour for our order, eventually just leaving. We received a call in our suite apologizing and offering us a wine pairing at our dinner in the specialty restaurant. As we had not lodged a complaint, I felt their follow-up was an indication of their attention to detail in terms of customer service. Boarding was extremely fast. We brought a few bottles of wine and hard liquor on board. This practice was quite acceptable. The ship was modern and spacious. It rarely felt crowded. We took several of the included side trips and some of the extra charge options. Most were well organized. We were disappointed that when Tunisia and Algeria were dropped from the trip, but security concerns were understandable. We missed one other stop due to rough weather, but another stop was substituted. My friend from the couple we traveled with and I had signed up (at an additional charge) for Shopping with the Chef in the excluded port. We were notified that it would be rescheduled at another port. It was worth the additional expense. We were taken, as a small group, to the open market with the chef. He showed us around and we suggested items we were interested in trying. That evening we met in a special dining room, where we drank wine while watching the chef prepare a special meal utilizing the items we had chosen earlier. It was a very enjoyable experience, limited to a small group. I would recommend it. Read Less

WE chose this cruise because of the itinerary. It provided ports that we had never been to. We were very impressed with the ship itself and all of the amenities and services. The staff was wonderful and the food was delicious. Can't think of a thing that they could have improved upon, except for the times of the evening shows. The dinners lasted so long because we started at 7:30 and were a party of 8, that we usually missed the shows! They should have 2 shows per evening and that would have helped to have a later one as well. The port talks were sometimes scheduled following the afternoon excursions which cut into our getting ready for dinner. When this happened, we watched the Port Talk on the in room television and that was ok too. I think the ship is beautifully appointed and we were very happy. Read Less

We arrived in Barcelona a couple of days before boarding the ship for our 15-day Grand Mediterranean Tour and were able to explore the Catalonia region a little more fully--as well as take a trip to Andorra. It was great to be able to board the ship and stay another couple of nights and take advantage of the excursions offered by Viking to laces we hadn't been able to see previously. We have cruised on three other cruise lines besides Viking and can honestly say that the staterooms on the Viking Star are by far the best we have experienced. The food, service, and port excursions were all amazing! By far, what we most appreciated was the fact that we were able to fully enjoy the cruise/ship without having to worry about additional charges for things like internet, laundry facilities, specialty restaurants, or even bottled water ( for which most cruise lines charged us extra fees). After having just returned from an Alaska cruise on another very large ship, we truly appreciated the fact that the Viking Star isn't the size of a floating town. We were so impressed with our experience on the Viking Star that we just booked our next cruise with Viking! Read Less

This was our first cruise with Viking Ocean Cruises and my wife and I chose this trip because it went to most of the islands in the western Mediterranean. We explored Barcelona on our own during our one full day in Barcelona because we had a specific list of sights we wanted to visit. The Viking Star was a great ship to cruise on. Our cabin was spacious and always clean. The food was delicious everywhere on the ship and we especially enjoyed four nights in the specialty restaurants "Chef's Table" and "Manfredi's". We also enjoyed the afternoon tea service on several afternoons. I have traveled on larger cruise ships and I have to say that I liked the size of the Viking Star. About half way through the cruise we started to recognize most of the passengers and we were becoming "buddies" with many of the friendly crew members. The on-board entertainment that we enjoy the most are the individual entertainers or small groups. The Viking Star had an excellent guitarist; an excellent pianist (who seemed to have an endless repertoire); and a terrific string trio. Almost every day we took one of the included shore excursions or an optional shore excursion. All were well planned and led by friendly, competent guides. Several of the ports included a free shuttle from the ship to the town center - a definite plus for exploring on your own. One day we decided to skip shore excursions and take advantage of the Spa. The steam room/snow room experience is unique and a lot of fun. They also have saunas and warm/hot pools to relax in. Would I travel with Viking Ocean Cruises again? You bet! My wife and I have already booked a Caribbean cruise for early next year. We have enjoyed our cruises with other companies, some more than others, but I have to say that this cruise was the best ... very close to perfect! Read Less

We booked our cruise and flight through Viking which made embarkation and disembarkation a breeze. Viking was at the airport to meet us when we flew in to Barcelona. We had a Penthouse veranda cabin on the ship which was very large and well appointed and it also had a mini bar stocked with small bottles of liquor and a few snacks. The bathroom was nice and had a heated floor which was appreciated. The ship itself was beautiful with a wonderful spa that we loved and used frequently. We found ourselves using all areas of the ship as they were all so nice. Food on the Viking Star was very good with the best food being in the restaurants on the ship. My sister had a birthday on the ship and although we did not let Viking know in advance when I mentioned it at dinner in the Chef's Table, a birthday cake was waiting for her when she returned to her cabin. Viking had some type of entertainment every night and we really enjoyed the show with Paul Fredericks. Viking also had movies, interesting lectures and port talks as well. Service on the ship was always excellent with our cabin steward keeping our cabin perfect. Each day in port included an excursion with a local guide as well as optional excursions to cover almost all interests. We took advantage of both and really enjoyed the optional Gaudi tour in Barcelona. We feel Viking provides an excellent experience and look forward to traveling with them again. Read Less

The high-tech features on the ship are impressive. Also the ship's overall design is very attractive with many separate seating areas so it never felt crowded or cramped. The artwork is very interesting - with some changing periodically through video. The bathrooms were quite spacious and the heated floors were a treat. The crew was friendly and helpful, and the shore excursions were all highly enjoyable. The efficiency with which passengers were disembarked for the tours was very well coordinated. We did have a day of high seas and strong winds but the ship remained quite steady. The first few days there were challenges with the food temperature but understand that was due to some new crew joining the ship when some seasoned staff were reassigned to the new Viking ship. We have enjoyed a number of Viking river cruises, and those experiences led us to select a Viking sea cruise. We hope to take another Viking sea cruise in the future. Read Less

Previously, my husband and I have enjoyed two river cruises with Viking and wanted to try their ocean cruise. The Western Mediterranean Cruise was very interesting to us because neither of us had visited any of the stop overs on this particular cruise. The Viking Star was beautiful. Our cabin felt like a floating 5-star hotel. Meals were excellent - plenty of choices where to dine and the selection on the menu was great. Service was impeccable - every staff member wanted to make your experience a memorable one. The planned shore excursions were well thought out.My only complaint is many of the guides did not have a complete grasp of English language and at times it was difficult to understand what they were stating. This time we thought we would take advantage of allowing our flights to our destination and return to be planned by Viking. The flight schedules were awful. On our way to Barcelona we went through 4 airports. On our return flight we went through 2 airports but had an extensive period of time between flights. My luggage was lost on the way to Barcelona, and my husband's luggage was lost on our return from Barcelona. It was not a good way to start or end a trip. I understand that Viking arrangements were made in the most cost saving way but it should not be at the expense of the customer's enjoyment. This portion of the trip was very stressful and left a sour taste in the overall experience. Unfortunately, it is the memory that comes to mind first. Read Less
