While not experienced cruisers, we have been on five previous cruises over the past 25 - 30 years with Carnival, Norwegian, and Holland America. We chose this cruise due to an invitation from my sister to join her and her husband on what would be their sixth Regent cruise (they booked their seventh while onboard). We found the itinerary interesting which included Spanish, Portuguese, French, and British ports and loved the departure port (Barcelona) having spent a week there last year. Our journey began with a flawless and on-time flight on Delta through Atlanta to Barcelona. Delta One (their version of business class) was comfortable, the food was delicious, and I was able to sleep a few hours during the flight. We arrived in Barcelona Sunday morning before a Monday cruise departure day to an expectedly chaotic airport where we discovered Barcelona is second to Miami as the busiest cruise port in the world. Our bags were retrieved and turned over to representatives available at the airport and we were on a bus headed for the Fairmont hotel an hour after landing. Our hotel, the included pre-cruise selection by Regent, was very nice and located within a large garden-like area with beautiful grounds. Very quiet and relaxing. Regent representatives were onsite to assist with tours or cruise inquiries although we didn't require their assistance. The provided breakfast Monday morning, the day of the cruise, was high quality with plenty of choices to satisfy everyone. We had a couple of hours to relax prior to boarding our assigned bus to the pier. Bags were retrieved from our room the morning of departure. After a relatively short (45 minute) bus ride to the pier, we were ready to board. The embarkation process was efficient, easy, and relaxed. We experienced our first memorable interaction with a Regent employee during this process. A gentleman from the entertainment team greeted us with a smile, checked us in, invited us to the show that night, and sent us on our way. A great first impression even before we boarded the ship. Once onboard, we immediately noticed the quality, beauty, opulence, and luxury of the décor, design, furnishings, and atmosphere on the ship. Also, a wide variety of artwork could be found throughout the ship, some of which matched my taste, while some did not. We were aware of the hype surrounding this ship and reality matched the hype. Undeniably, the ship itself is beautiful in every imaginable way. Our cabin, a Concierge D on deck 10, was located steps away from the elevators and stairs and beneath the library above. The efficiency of the cabin design was impressive by being able to face the very comfortable king size bed toward to balcony so that from the bed we could see the sea or port. An abundance of drawer space (we didn't use half of them) could be found throughout the cabin. The closet was very large in relation to the cabin size and fully accommodated what ended up being our exaggerated over packing. The bathroom was impressive as well with two sinks, a separate tub and shower, and beautiful marble finishing throughout. Pre-cruise, we were attracted to a separate tub and shower, however; after a 12 night cruise, we never used the tub. Similarly, pre-cruise we appreciated that an illy coffeemaker would be located in our cabin yet we never used it. Our balcony was large, approximately 115 sq. ft., and had high quality furnishings including two large wicker reclining chairs, full size chaise lounge, and a table large enough for two people to enjoy a meal. The balcony angled toward the front of the ship which provided an unobstructed view forward without the need to lean over the railing. Furnishings, fixtures, and finishes inside the cabin were consistent with what would be found in four or five star hotel junior suite. Contrary to certain reviews, we found the dining onboard to be excellent without exception. Every meal was high quality, well presented, without lengthy wait times, and flavored deliciously. We dined at each specialty restaurant twice, ordered room service breakfast six times, and tried all other dining venues except the pool grill multiple times. I had seafood, veal, beef, and pasta main course dishes and all were great. Service was outstanding. Wines offered were very good and our glasses were never empty. Desserts were, unfortunately, too tempting to avoid. Frankly, absolutely no complaints related to food whatsoever. We experienced none of the issues to be found in reviews critical of dining venues located on the ship. We were left assuming we were either very fortunate or simply easy to please. Notably, the design, décor and atmosphere in the three specialty dining venues is truly unique and beautiful. The entertainment we found enjoyable and, well..............entertaining. Other reviews indicate entertainment leaves something to be desired yet we attended three stage productions, the cruise director John Barron's show, his assistant's show, and every performance by the two guest performers with Will Martin's shows being the best. The shows were an hour in length which we found to be perfect. We didn't expect Lady GaGa, Adelle, Elton John, or a Broadway theater production of Phantom of the Opera or Les Miserables to be performing on the cruise and therefore we appreciated the quality of the entertainment available. Additionally, we were always able to find comfortable seats available in the theater without obstructed sightlines. We also scheduled two cooking classes in the Culinary Arts Kitchen and thoroughly enjoyed both. The instructing chef made it fun with her energy and enthusiasm and by playing music and serving wine while teaching. Both classes were full (I believe 18 is capacity) which further added to the fun atmosphere. The facility itself is state of the art. Finally, we scheduled five appointments in the Canyon Ranch spa and were pleased with their services and facility. I had a massage that I would rank as good as any I have ever received. Service on the cruise is where the separation occurred between great and extraordinary. The meaningful difference maker for us. Nice ship, itinerary, tours, food, and entertainment - otherworldly service. One example: 6:30 am I go to the coffee shop to get a latte for my wife which Andre gladly prepares and a green tea for me. I then head to the pool deck where the fresh juice bar is located and pick up a celery and orange juice for my wife and head back to the cabin with my hands full. As I walk through the pool area the attendants who are changing the terry cloth covers on all the pool loungers smile and wish me a good morning. As I approach the door, one stops what he is doing and runs to open the door for me and asks if I need further assistance. As I near the door to our cabin, from behind me appears one of the captain's staff members from the bridge and he asks me if he can open my cabin door for me with his master key. This is only one example of many other incredibly positive interactions with Regent staff members on the ship. The training program must be world class because we never encountered anyone who wasn't pleasant, wasn't eager to serve, and who wasn't genuinely kind. The crew seemed happy. At dinner in Prime 7, our excellent server Ruth's assistant, who I would guess to be 21 or 22 years old, engaged in conversation with us and twice said how much she loved her job. How many 21 or 22 year olds in the U.S. would say how much they love their jobs? From beginning to end, we had no complaints whatsoever regarding the service we received and we compliment Regent for their very effective hiring and training practices. We experienced eleven ports while on our cruise and found many points of interest, cultural experiences, historical significance, and beauty at every one. All tours with the exception of Lisbon met or exceeded our expectations. Most notable tours included a D Day Landing Beach tour in Normandy and a wonderful dinner at Chateau Du Tertre in Bordeaux. We had high quality guides who were knowledgeable and understandable. Each bus would depart about half full. Very efficient system for organizing tour departures on the ship. We never waited more than ten minutes before being directed to our bus. The one complaint I have from the entire cruise experience is related to the tours and, unfortunately, I believe the issue is beyond Regent's control: passengers go on tours they should not take due to physical limitations. We were provided tour descriptions online before the cruise, after we boarded, and each day with the newsletter; all of which made abundantly clear the physical requirements of each tour and the physical limitations that should prevent someone from taking certain tours. On every tour, in my opinion, people were present who should not have been. Certain participants placed unreasonable expectations on the guides due to their limitations. A man fell down stepping off the curb in Lisbon and somehow the guide was implicated? Another guide was rudely told to slow down because a couple couldn't keep up. One guide was told to slow down by a woman who said her back hurts when she climbs stairs. And lastly, a guide was asked to be available at the port to help a couple back to the ship. Very frustrating and my heart goes out to the guides and what they must endure. Regent can't be placed into a position of evaluating each passenger's physical ability before every tour. Passengers need to read the information, readily available via multiple sources, regarding the tours, and be honest about their ability to take the, clearly stated, more physically demanding tours. Again, my only complaint during the entire cruise. Disembarkation was difficult only because we didn't want to leave. The process itself was easy as long as your luggage was outside your door on time and you were listening for your number to be called indicating it was time to disembark. In summary, we had a wonderful and memorable trip and thanks to Regent for performing so incredibly well every step of the way. To perform so well requires outstanding organization, training, quality control, accountability, and teamwork. It was fascinating to watch the team work so well together and deliver so well time and time again. Partly attributable to my sister telling me to prepare to be spoiled and partly because of the price, our expectations were very high yet Regent consistently met or exceeded our expectations. Consequently, we are now hooked and booked an Alaska cruise in 2020 while onboard. Read Less

We had a large room, probably too large but it was nice We had a butler who was very attentive and met all of our needs. While we are not foodies per se the food was more than acceptable. The options for the food were extensive. We had canapés brought to our suite nightly. Our suite was stocked with favorite adult beverages ranging from beer to out desired alcohol. Off boat excursions were plentiful and for the most part included. We were somewhat disappointed that the ship left port at either 5 or 6 nightly. We would have liked to spend an evening in the casino at Monte Carlo or had some local food at say Sicily or Capri. The distances were such that they appeared to be close enough to depart a bit later. We thought that the attentiveness and dedication of the staff was above most other cruises we have been on. They were very attentive and we anxious to make everyone happy. The dining selections included steak .italian, salad bar,Asian and French. Poolside grill was always a good place to have a small dinner. One observation which was rather curious. The ship was 40% Asian. Regent we were told, has changed focus and is now marketing their product to the chinese populous. Rather interesting we were sitting with a couple from Hong Kong. They were not pleased for they had talked to mainline chinese and had found out that these people had paid 40% less than they paid. As a result of the concentration of the chineses it was felt that the food was more focused on their needs than on other cruises, unfortunately the mainline folks are more of a rush and don’t respect ques or lines. Funny the Hong Kong Chinese had a bigger problem with the mainline folks than the rest of us. I will look into this new focus on the part of Regent to find out if this is in fact the case. If so this may influence our future choices. Entertainment was more on the site of mediocre. After 2 shows we just decided to skip. Read Less

I wanted to try Regent's new ship Explorer and the transatlantic crossing gave me lots of sea days to explore the ship. We also had some interesting ports of call in Madeira and Spain. We flew into Miami on our own and used a hotel shuttle to get to the cruise port. Very easy and economical. First time I've been on a ship that joined in a search and rescue for a passenger overboard.The captain and cruise director kept us informed of what was going on as several cruise ships joined in searching the grid along with Coast Guard out of Spain. Fortunately it was not one of our ship passengers or crew. The search was not successful and was called off after about 12 hours as odds of surviving that long in the cold water were not feasible. Service was excellent everywhere. Disappointed that the onboard lecture series did not exist, especially with so many sea days. When I inquired they told me the lecturer had to cancel at the last minute. I think they should have tried to come up with something. New layout of cabins on this ship and decided it was worth it to upgrade to the lowest level concierge. They actually turn the cabin so the bed looks out through the balcony doors instead of a blank wall. Dining was excellent. Prime 7 layout is huge. Chartreuse wall banquets are not meant to hold people.. Read Less

This was hands down the worse cruise out of 10 I’ve been on. They lie the second you make your first payment. If I can help out anyone from making an awful decision please choose somewhere else to cruise with. Don’t let the ALL an inclusive trick you. I would of much rather paid for better quality than what you get for free. The staff is rude the food is horrible and you have few options to eat at. Everyday you are at a port and ran from morning until night and then they MAKE you get dressed up just to walk around the boat not just to go to dinner. It was the worse trip of my life!! Everyday we docked or took off my room was up front I heard everything I got little sleep and was NOT even allowed to use my veranda because it distracted the bridge so why get a veranda then?!?!? I asked to move and they would down grade me 4 levels but would NOT refund the difference I paid for the suite versus down below they said it wasn’t the ships fault. I could go on and on BUT bottom line is this is a lying, horrible cruise company and steer clear enjoy your hard earned money somewhere else rather than paying them for abuse and bad food! And the entertainment is awful or should I say the lack of. Read Less

Everything about this cruise was amazing and exceeded our expectations in every way. The ship, the service, the cabin, the fine dining, the casual dining, the pool area, the entertainment and shore excursions were all as described or better! My favourite restaurants were Prime 7 and Compass Rose, which does not require a booking and is also fabulous for a 'posh' breakfast! A free shore excursion not to be missed is the Mallorca Wine Tasting & Spanish Tapas. The visit to the Bodega Ribas winery is simply exceptional and was hosted by a female staff member who spoke perfect, clear English and enthralled us all with her humour, passion and knowledge! The winery tour was followed by a sit down wine-tasting accompanied by a delicious tapas of bread, olive oil, olives, meats etc.in an original stone house circa 1711! The presentation was gorgeous... the tables were beautifully set and adorned with white linen, silver cutlery and fine glassware. We found the cruise to be exceptional value, even the washing and ironing was an extra freebie. We also had to request a 2nd internet log-in (due to a work issue that we both needed to work on at the same time) and this was provided to us at no extra cost even though it was not included in our fare. We recommend this cruise/ship to others and are already planning our next cruise with Regent Seven Seas Cruises! Read Less

We did the Barcelona-to-Rome cruise leaving Barcelona April 2018 and had a great time. The room sizes are far better than any others we have seen, and include a walk-in closet and spacious bathroom--not amenities you normally find on a cruise ship. The public areas, bars, pool area were all great, and I particularly liked the health club on the 6th floor. In addition, Regent's arrival (at the airport) and departure experiences were really well done. We had been on a river cruise with AMA in 2017 and went on this cruise with a couple who had been on a different AMA river cruise last year. All of us thought that Regent's food, while OK, did not match AMA. Maybe that reflects preparing food for 750 versus 140, but anyway that's our view. The three specialty restaurants on the Regent Explorer were quite good, although again my wife and I thought our one dinner at the AMA "Captain's Table" was even more special. We thought the tours were generally pretty good, but there were two occasions where tours included stops at facilities that were just attempts to sell stuff to folks on the tour. One on Mallorca took the group quite a long way to a rather worthless tour of a synthetic pearl factory, ending with too much free time in the factory's gift shop. Then we had a tour to that began in the little French village of Eze, which is a fantastic place, and ended in Monaco, which is also well worth seeing. But stuck between them was a tour of a perfume factory, again dumping you in their showroom at the end, and providing more time than necessary. Regent should delete the commercial stops from their tours, in my view. Those are my suggestions for improvement; overall it was a great time and the experience generally matched up with the premium price Regent commands. We would probably sail with them again and are considering a Baltic cruise in a year or two. Read Less

We had a great time on the Explorer! The most outstanding thing was the customer service in EVERY aspect! The employees are so personable and nice. Their work ethic is incredible! Our room (Concierge) was spacious and the bed was so comfortable. They came in to clean and make everything perfect twice a day. Anything we requested was immediately attended to. Room service in the middle of the night - no problem. We went on excursions every day with the port-intensive itinerary, so we only attended 2 of the evening shows. We had great dinners every night with unbelievable service and attention. Our favorite was the Pacific Rim. It was over-the-top on food and presentation. All of the restaurants had excellent customer service. We were glad we did the pre-cruise night in Barcelona at the Fairmont so we had a chance to regroup after the international flight. The Business Class air rounded it all up to a truly great vacation! Read Less

Whilst the ship in general was really luxurious the time given to the shipyard to complete the fitting out showed in many areas:- Balcony door could not be opened from the outside on 3 occasions. Shower head was hanging loose from ceiling in cabin Painting on a wall in cabin 15mm on the slant, visible and noticeable. In the Meridian lounge part of the ceiling decorations fell to the floor, luckily nobody was hurt. Marble in shower and toilet were badly stained, possibly from chemicals in the water as the walls (same marble) were clean. Piece of decorative grill in theatre broke away when slightly leaning against it. Whilst all but the stained marble (was told there were many cabins like this and it was a warranty issue with the suppliers) were dealt with in a few hours it did raise questions of why (a) nobody had reported them before - the ship had been at sea for over 2 years (b) why cabin steward had not reported these problems There were several other very minor finishing touches that were of either a poor quality or had just not stood the test of 2 years in service. There was also confusion regarding dress code in Compass Rose, Men had to wear trousers (not jeans as the other ships) BUT on the last night we were informed casual dress was OK - the crew member on the door on the last night was not informed and he was sending fellow passengers to La Veranda for their final meal. I showed the crew member a copy of Passages where the relaxed dress code was mentioned but he still had to go to the Manager for confirmation. Read Less

We spent three days in Venice, prior to embarkation. Embarkation took less than fifteen minutes and then a pleasant lunch at La Veranda. We were in our room by 2:30. Very nice room with plenty of closet space and a butler who could answer any question and solve most problems. We ate at all the restaurants and generally had very good, but not great food. Explorer does a better job with seafood than with beef. Pacific Rim: If you really like Asian cuisines, then Pacific Rim will be a disappointment. A saute pan on an induction cook-top just does not produce the same results as a wok over an open flame. The wine selections do not pair that well with Asian foods. Same menu as web site every night. Prime7: Great prime rib, very good pork and fair to middling beef. Regent claims they only use dry aged USDA prime beef, but I doubt it. Same menu as web site every night. Chartreuse: Very good, if you stick with the fish. Same menu as web site every night. Compass Rose: Favorite restaurant on Explorer. Menu changes on a daily basis and we enjoyed everything we ordered. Sette Mari: Had some excellent meals and never a wait for a table. Menu specials change each evening and the pasta station does a great job. You can make a meal just from the Antipasto Buffet. La Veranda and Pool Grill: Excellent buffets. Wine: House wines are OK, but you really need to ask about everything they are pouring and not just what is initially suggested. The Connoisseur's Wine List has some great deals with markups well bellow what you see in most restaurants. The Culinary Arts Center is great and you should make every effort to schedule a class. We did a Market to Table Excursion in Korfu that could not have been better. Went out to the market in the morning, bought ingredients, and then came back and cooked it in the afternoon. Chef Kelley and her team were great. The Explorer is a gorgeous ship with a multitude of very comfortable public spaces. There is original art on display everywhere you turn. The crew is very well trained and make a point of making sure you are a satisfied customer. The gym is large and well equipped and never crowded. Not a spa person, so can't comment on Canyon Ranch. If you select cruises based on the quality of the entertainment, then Regent is not your cruise line. We liked all the ports (part of the reason we selected the cruise) and with one exception the excursion guides were excellent. We took an excursion in every port with a mix of free and Regent Select itineraries (some were excellent, others OK, but none were bad). There was someone from Destination Services on all of our excursions. All of the buses were fairly new and very clean. Disembarkation was quick and easy, but we did not have a plane to catch. We wanted to stop off on the way in London for a few days. We paid over $1000 each extra to do that. We gave them the flight numbers. Two weeks before we left we found our flights were different and we were not even in London. Regents was not helpful at all. They rerouted us to other flights even though our original flights were still available. Not even nice about it. Rude rude rude. I asked for our custom air charge back. They said no. They said they would not give us our original flights back (it was a Regents error that caused the change) because the flights had gone up. We did end up getting some of it back thanks to our travel agent who spent hours and hours on this! Then on our way home we were caught up in a British Air computer fiasco. We ended up flying home on United for an additional $4600. British refunded our ticket price but gave it to Regents and Regents kept it. They would not even consider refunding us that money to help offset the $4600. Never again!!!! It was the worst customer service I have ever experience. We are taking two cruises this year for a total of 5 weeks and you can bet it is not on Regents. I also found the service very good on board but they were not friendly. No one learned your name and they rarely smile. Just not the vibe you get from other lines like Crystal and Seabourn. Kind of disappointing. Read Less

We sprung for the Grand Suite, which was very impressive upon first entering it. Then, as we turned the hot tub on, it would not turn off and set off alarms. We had to laugh as employees came rushing to our room as we all watched our luxurious suite flood! Next, we lost our ability to watch Satellite TV half way thru the cruise. This never got resolved. It was very disappointing, as we liked to unwind from our busy day watching a movie. So we turned to the computer and could not get a strong enough signal to use it. We were told this had been an ongoing problem. The butler service was excellent. He made dinner reservations for us every night. We tried all specialty restaurants but only went back to Prime 7 as the food in the other restaurants was average at best. The free drinks are a tad overstated, you have to order an extra shot to combine with your drink for it to taste like a "real" drink. We purchased a $3000.00 necklace form the ship’s store. The selling point was that we would get the 21% VAT tax of $548.00 back at the airport. After following the instructions from the jewelry store manager as well as 2 other Regent representatives, we were not able to collect our VAT tax. We went thru customs to the Global booth (where you get your tax refund) as directed by Regent representatives only to find out we had to go to a customs agent on the 1st floor prior! We wrote a letter explaining our injustice to Regents. We clearly stated we realize this is a scam by the country, but we received wrong information from Regents that led us not to collect our VAT tax. We were told we would hear back within 10 days. 14 days later, we wrote another email and finally a month later we received a reply. It was so insulting! They did nothing! We would have hoped they would of at least thanked us so they could educate all their employees and hopefully this will not happen to any other guests. So much for guest relations!!!! To be treated with such disrespect after spending over $40,000 for our vacation obviously left us speechless! This was the final straw to NEVER cruise with Regents again! Read Less

My spouse and I usually book with Celebrity in their Penthouse Suite. In 2016, our May 2017 Celebrity Equinox Film cruise was cancelled and the Celebrity Equinox was repositioned to the Caribbeans. We wanted a Mediterranean cruise with embarkation and disembarkation in Barcelona because in May 2016, we took the Celebrity Equinox Film cruise in the penthouse suite with a pre-cruise stay at the Barcelona Majestic penthouse and had a wonderful time and awesome experience. Our travel agent recommended Regent. She explained Regent was a level above Celebrity and the Regent Explorer Itinerary met our "Barcelona" requirement. We booked the Grand Suite (GS level) because of the included amenities including priority boarding. The cruise was "all inclusive". The hotel and business class air fare was included. Regent booked us at the Melia Hotel and we upgraded to a suite (over $1200). Since we had a hotel preference to the Majestic Hotel, I asked if we could stay at the Majestic for our pre-cruise hotel accommodations. I was told the Melia Hotel would be our pre-cruise accommodations. After departing our flight in Barcelona, we were met by a Regent representative. She said we needed to wait for the other couple who had been on our flight and was also staying at the Melia Hotel. Several more passengers arrived and they were taken to various hotels including the Majestic Hotel. I questioned the Regent representative and she said the Majestic was one of their 4 hotels. When we arrived at the Melia Hotel, we checked in with the Regent "desk". We were given a 12:00 pm transfer to the port. Because we had priority boarding and we would be able to enter our suite at 12:00 pm, I asked if we could have the earlier transfer time to arrive at the ship by 12:00 pm. I was told "no". I asked why and was told the cruise guests who had arrived in Barcelona before us received the earlier transfers. I further questioned them and said why would they have the earlier transfer time when they could not check into their suite until 2:30 pm (remember we had the 12:00 pm priority into our suite). They said the transfer bus was full for the earlier transfer time. We then went to our room. Upon entering our room, there was a foul odor throughout. I telephoned the front desk and they sent someone to the room to turn on the air conditioner. The odor was so bad, I started to get nauseated. I then went down to the front desk and asked for another room. We were given the exact room one floor down. It, too, had a bad smell, though not as bad as the first room. I must add while awaiting the elevator the Regent "desk" manager came to me and said we could have the earlier transfer time. I was quite surprised since we had been told there was no room on the earlier transfer bus. The next morning, we boarded the earlier transfer bus that was half full. Yes, I did say it was half full. Remember originally we could not get the earlier transfer because it was "full". We arrived at the port to go through security and check in. On Celebrity when we arrive at the check in counter, we are then greeted by the "suite concierge" and escorted to Michael's Club (the private lounge for suite guest) to await our butler who then escorts us to our suite. Not on Regent, though we did have a butler. The ship is exquisite. The suite is beautiful. My only problem is for a suite of that size, there is a small closet. In addition the drawers in the closet are blocked by the door, therefore you must keep the door closed to access the additional drawers. The bathroom is quite small compared to Celebrity (the cost factor is almost twice the Celebrity cost for a Celebrity penthouse suite). In addition, you either must pay for laundry service or wash and iron your own clothes (there is a launderette). The laundry is included on Celebrity. I believe with a GS suite, laundry services should be included. There are three specially restaurants. A steakhouse, a French, and an Asian fusion. The food is good, but "nothing to write home about". They are included in the cost. Now, you're probably thinking, on Celebrity you must pay an additional cost for their specialty restaurants. That is true, however when you book a Royal or Penthouse suite, all restaurants are included. In fact, ALL suite guest have their own intimate restaurant. The food is excellent and so is the service. Now for the Regent shows. Absolutely below average. Again for the cruise cost, the entertainment should be top rate. This is not the case. We attended the first performance and thought if this is an indication of the production entertainment, we will not attend. The excursions are also included in the cruise cost, however they are only fair. The guides are fair and you are hauled along in big buses. I had directly booked three private excursions with tour companies in Malta, Sicily and Marseilles and they were terrific compared to Regent's excursions. On our private excursions, their was only my spouse and I or another couple. In fact, towards the end of the cruise, many cruise guest were cancelling their Regent sponsored tours. The highlight and most memorable part of our cruise was Ronnie, our butler, who treated us like royalty. He was awesome. He would inquire whether we were eating in the restaurants and if we were not, he would bring a menu and take our order and bring our meals to us. He even had the kitchen bake oatmeal raisin cookies when I told him of a bad experience I had had when I ordered the cookies through room service. On our last day, while at dinner, Ronnie packed all of my clothes. He had a sense of humor and made us feel quite at home in our suite. For the cost of the cruise, it is not worth it. Some guests enjoy the smaller occupancy (750), however though Celebrity is a larger occupancy ship, it feels very small and intimate. The service is the best. Now, I know I am to review Regent Explorer, however I must comment on an experience we had on our last Celebrity cruise. It was Valentine's Day and I asked our butler if he could organize a Valentine's night cocktail party for some of the guests we had met. George, our butler agreed. Upon our entrance into our suite, George had the table covered with a white tablecloth and rose peddles around the table. In addition he made a heart with the rose peddles in the center of the table. He had made appetizers and had the beverages chilled. He arranged for the orchestra pianist to play for several hours during our party. Though his work stop time was 10:30 pm, he stayed with us and served us. Needless to say we have six cruises booked with Celebrity through April, 2019. I'm sorry to say we will not book another Regent tour. I must give a poor service due to pre-cruise hotel accommodations and overall experience. Read Less

Pacific Rim restaurant is excellent Chartreuse restaurant is pretentious and not good food--no usual French items We liked the itinerary except for Gaeta. Cabin is comfortable--a little small for the price but newness makes up for it. No music between 7:30 and 8:45--which is strange since a lot of guests eat early and then have nothing to do for over 1 hour. For a ship that talks about Commitment to Excellence, their failure to do anything re this TV situation is troubling. I do not know if I would travel with them again Read Less

Booked this cruise with our travel agent on its inaugural Barcelona to Venice Regent 25th anniversary cruise in April, as we both had birthdays that month. The ship was great, our room was great, the staff was great except for restaurant management. My travel companion is gluten intolerant which was noted when we booked but through the lack of knowledge and incompetence of restaurant management, she ate something that was not gluten free which resulting in her having to spend two days of this expensive cruise sick in bed. Even after this incident and after meeting with management, they basically could not agree on what was available for someone with gluten intolerance. We would be told that a gluten free option was available at breakfast, but when it was asked for, restaurant staff said it was not and this how the whole ten days went and even worse, many promises made by management went unfulfilled. When we went to dinner at their upgraded Pacific Rim restaurant after my companion recovered, we were told by management that the head chef would meet us at our table to prepare a special gluten free meal for her, but when we got there, we got a menu with ball point pen checks next what she could have. So much for meeting the chef, but that is how the whole cruise went. To make matter worse, we paid extra for an ungraded 10 hour tour of Rome with a guide that dumped us at Trevi Fountain with map with circles around historic place in the area and told that we were on our own, a drive by a block away from the coliseum without even a photo opportunity and on two different occasions our guide lost people which resulted in 30 to 40 minute delays as went out to search. The guide was totally incompetent and the tour was not worth a dime of our money. It seems that when things start to go wrong, everything goes wrong. We were locked out of our suite twice when the electronic lock failed and at the end of the cruise Regent management managed to lose our luggage for 20 minutes between the bus and the air port terminal, but those are just the highlights of this expensive disappointing cruise and at that point all we wanted to do was go home. We have cruise with both Viking and Winds Star and the cruises were fabulous with absolutely zero problem, but on Regent it was a comedy of errors. Regent is definitely off our list.......... We recently sailed on the 10-night Barcelona to Venice trip aboard Explorer. It was our seventh Regent cruise but our first on the Explorer. We brought my mother and her husband and it was their first cruise ever. Bottom line up front - I think we have a new favorite ship! The good: This ship is, in my opinion, absolutely stunning. I know people have complained about the dark colors and the artwork and the perceived wasted space and whatever else you can complain about, but the fact is that this is an amazing piece of engineering. From our first steps aboard, coming face-to-face with the amazing chandelier in the main atrium, to the art-deco touches, to the very adequate public spaces - I could spend a week on board just enjoying the ambiance and the artwork. We were in an F2 cabin and it was perfect for us. The closet was large and the dual basin sink was very welcome. The shower was fantastic and there was a large tub as well. The bed faces the balcony for a great view of the ocean in the morning. There is a large TV that swings out so you can watch from the couch or the bed. There is more than adequate drawer space and plenty of lights and outlets (there are additional US and euro outlets on the lower level of the night stands that many people didn't know about - nice touch!) Compass Rose is beautiful and the service was spot-on. We loved the other specialty restaurants as well. The lounges are nice, although they all have a similar 'feel' to me, but the bartenders are great and the company was good. The bad: On the ship, not much. The infamous sight lines in the theater, the tight space between the aft elevators and stairs, no forward outdoor deck. Jason Montague was on board and told the crowd that these issues had been identified and would be corrected on the new build in the Explorer class. Service was better than our last few cruises, with almost telepathic service in CR and other restaurants. Off the ship, well, here's where you can see the cost-cutting, I think. The transfer from the airport was a cluster and getting checked into the hotel could have gone better. The shore excursions were universally worse than before, with some being very poorly organized and ALL of them being too crowded, even the Regent Choice additional cost excursions. I know this was a port-intensive itinerary and some crowding was to be expected, but honestly - these were NOT well run, although Destination Services was much more professional and friendly that I remember for years. The ugly: There was no ugly - it was a great cruise. Would we sail her again? Yup. We had already booked a second Explorer cruise in August and have another one booked in 2019. Loved the cabin, loved the ship, loved the crew, not a fan of most of the excursions. But we still love the product and will continue to sail Regent, especially on Explorer and 'Explorer 2', whatever she may be named... Read Less

We had been on a Regent cruise four years ago that we really enjoyed. We really wanted to check out the newest ship, Explorer, so we booked a Mediterranean cruise starting in Barcelona and ending in Venice. I initially wanted to get a penthouse suite but they were all booked. We ended up with a superior suite, which is one step above their lowest category of deluxe verandah. This is an important distinction and I'll come back to it in a minute. The room was very nice and large, especially the balcony. The bathroom has two sinks, a separate shower and bathtub. There is also a large walk in closet. The ship itself is very nice with several specialty dining venues and nice bars. The pool area has very nice lounge chairs as well as large loungers built for two. The jacuzzis have shade covers over them. My biggest gripes with this cruise line were with dining and entertainment. They have a caste system set up. If you do not have at least a concierge level room or higher, then your chances of getting into any of the specialty dining restaurants is very low. You are allowed to make reservations for each specialty restaurant once online before you board the ship. Good luck getting in again after that. At first, I didn't think it would be that big a deal. That was before I actually ate in the main dining room-Compass Rose. I could not believe how bad this restaurant was. Service is slow and disorganized and the food was extremely subpar. I ordered lobster as they had it on the menu. I received a small sad looking crustacean that looked like a langostino. About the size of a medium shrimp. It also tasted like it was not fresh. Considering we were paying $10,000 a person for this cruise, I was not happy about this; especially since I had been on a Holland America cruise the month before where they served fabulous lobsters in their main dining room during the dress up night. I could not believe that a cruise line that charges 1/10 the price would have better food. Unfortunately, that continued to be the case. They do have an Italian restaurant that you don't need reservations for. It is not as nice as the other specialty restaurants as it is the buffet during the day. You have to show up early or wait hours to be seated. We ate there a couple of times after we realized that the Compass Rose was never getting any better. Regent's glossy brochures claim they have gourmet dining. Well, they do in the steak restaurant and the french restaurant and the asian one. Unfortunately, because of their caste system, your chances of trying it more than once if you are in a superior suite, are not good.If you have sailed with them at least 21 days you start to get priority reservations as well. We got notification of that halfway through the cruise so were able to get into the specialty restaurants two more times. What is completely unacceptable to me is how extremely bad the main dining room is--especially for the amount of money you are paying. The entertainment was also a huge disappointment. On our last Regent cruise, the entertainment was quite good. They had gymnasts who were fabulous and an amazing violinist. This time around, that was not the case. Broadway style music designed for 80 year olds was the only entertainment available. Even in the bars they played a type of elevator music. Only one night in the bar did I see a decent act. A husband and wife team put on a very nice singing show. That was one night out of 10. I would give the entertainment a D .Unless you are 80 years old, you are probably not going to like it. I know we didn't and we are in our late 50's. Again, Holland America has better entertainment as well. Their Blues Club is amazing. The excursions are something that Regent excels at. However, even though they claim they are completely free, that is not actually the case. You need to pay attention when you are signing up for them as some cost money--sometimes quite a lot of money. I did pay attention so booked only free excursions. They were all quite good. One of my favorites was in Kotor, Montenegro. It's a beautiful town, especially viewed from the water. We were able to go to a flute concert held in a church and then get a chance to eat at a local hangout. That was a special excursion that I was on the waiting list for (as I had no priority). Luckily, we were able to get in. It was for Regent's 25th anniversary. Because we were not in a concierge or higher cabin, we did not have transfers or a night before the cruise included. However, we stayed at Hotel The Serras in Barcelona before the cruise. It is located near the marina, and is a small boutique hotel that is quite luxurious and has a rooftop bar. That turned out to be a good choice. We stayed at the Cipriani Hotel in Venice. It was also very nice with a fabulous breakfast area facing the Grand Canal. They have a free water taxi that will take you to St Mark's Square and it runs 24 hours a day. One surprise we had when we reached Venice, was how expensive water taxis were. I thought Regent was quite deceptive in sending out a form saying you could pay an extra $400 for them to include transfers. Don't do it. The water taxi costs $100. You can take a water bus but it is crowded and with suitcases would be difficult. It is much cheaper though--less than $10. I loved the ports we visited and thought the excursions were good. The size of the ship-750 passengers--is also very nice. However, I was so disappointed by the food and service in the main dining room and the entertainment, I think it is very unlikely I would do another Regent cruise. I don't think it is worth the money spent. This was our second time on Regent, but we have cruised many times on other cruise lines including Carnival, Princess, Norwegian and Holland America. My wife and I recently returned from a 10 day Mediterranean cruise on the brand new Regent Explorer. This was our second Regent cruise, and we had also sailed on a corporate partner, Oceania, in the past. We have also sailed on Carnival, Disney, Royal Carib., and NCL so our experiences have been varied. We booked the new ship back in Feb. 2015 so obviously we were quite anxious to finally go aboard. That said, we were somewhat taken aback at the negative reviews on the ship for its inaugural trip in July. One reviewer even termed the ship as "gloomy" in decor. We thought the ship was spectacular. The decor was beautiful, and what that reviewer called gloomy, my wife and I would characterize as earth tones. Deck 4 and 5,the Compass Rose, the Constellation Theatre, and all the lounges were visually beautiful. Specifically, the chandeliers, lighting fixtures, and artwork were just first class. We stayed in a Penthouse Suite on Deck 14 and the layout was great. I would add that our balcony, with a table, and two stretch out chaises was a very inviting space and we don't usually use the balcony much. After reading the negative reviews, and then compare it to my 10 days aboard, I would think that many of the returnees to Regent had an expectation that they were going to be somehow rewarded bountifully for ponying up more money for the inaugural cruise of the Explorer, and when they weren't, reported as much bad as they could. My wife and I don't really look for negatives so we would be hard pressed to relate any. About the only negative I could relate is a) that whatever vendor installed the gym floor covering on the 6th floor should be embarrassed and Regent should get their money back. Regent has had to slice lines in the bubbles of the brand new floor so there is not a trip factor. I have much the same floor in my business, so I could relate. Perhaps when they have down time, Regent can force the installer to correct the issue. B) one of the two hot tubs was broken for at least 8 consecutive days and not fixed as we left. Otherwise, my wife and I felt that our value was quite good and that we received/experienced the cruise that we had hoped. Hands down, i still think that paying up front and not worrying about charges along the way is the best way to go on a vacation. We never had a bad glass of wine and believe me we sampled many. The food on the trip met our expectations. We are 55 and don't really expect Broadway caliber shows on these trips so I wouldn't say we were disappointed in the entertainment. I will add, though, that whoever does the choreography for the Explorer really did a great job as the dancing brought in many different and skilled maneuvers. The best show was Phillip Brown. A few quick shoutouts to Emanualle in the Compass Rose as one of the most professional waiters I have encountered; Madelina and Vijay from the Explorer Lounge for making our trip that much better; to Johnson who seemed to be everywhere looking to help us, and to our cabin team of Leslie/Bernadethe/Thuri who were low-key and amazing in cabin service. I hope all reading this review are as lucky and fortunate as we were to sail on the Explorer. Regent will continue to be the line we choose. Read Less

Being a first time cruiser, I did considerable research on ships, amenities and service. I considered Crystal, Seabourne and Regents. My past experience with group tours were with Tauck land tours and they are top notch in their class in every respect. I was intrigued by the Explorer's ship design, room configurations and all inclusive fares. The new ship with it's exclusive configuration and design aspects was the reason I chose Regents and I selected the Mediterranean cruise because the itinerary had the ship in port each day, cruising at night. The ship did not disappoint. It was excellent in every way. It is a 5 star floating hotel with excellent food, service and accommodations. After spending time on the ship, I recalled the appalling reviews by some cruisers who had just sailed on this ship and called the decor "oppressive" among other negative comments. Jail cells are oppressive. While it probably isn't to every person's taste, you truly feel that you have "vacated" and are spending time in an exclusive boutique hotel. This ship is designed by Italian designers (enough said) at an expense of $750 million dollars, with miles of marble on floors and walls, custom crystal and hand blown glass show stopping chandeliers, Scalamandre fabrics, hand made Tibetan prayer wheel at the entrance of Pacific Rim, glass beaded trim/glasscloth wall panels and various custom finishes on every square inch of the ship - truly Italian master craftsmanship and showmanship. Open spaces, intimate spaces, private spaces etc... all thought through to the passengers whims and comforts. The main dining room featured Versace chargers, Reidel wine glasses, silver tableware, delicious made to order food all the time and directed by an experienced executive chef from Johannasburg. We rarely ate buffet food and were able to dine in the exclusive restaurants which were show stopping in design and featured unique culinary cuisine that included lobster, steaks, seafoods, fish, lamb chops all of which I tried and not once did I have something that was bad. My favorite restaurant was Pacific Rim and Daniella the Maitre d' made sure everything in the restaurant ran perfectly. The staff on the ship aimed to please, worked very hard and I did not have a single negative experience with any one person. I interacted with desk staff, waiters, service people and our steward and every person went out of their way to provide what you needed. The shore excursions were probably the one area Regents will have to review since this may be a new route for them. Some ports were better than others and had better excursions available. It was difficult to choose since many were offered. Some tour guides were better than others. I'd like to see them narrow it down and make sure each excursion offers free time to explore each area. This was the only negative I experienced on this cruise. Some tour guides forgot the free time or didn't provide any, although some cruisers seemed dis-interested and were non-energetic complainers. If Regents offered excursion advisers pre-trip - it might really help. I had to rely on my own research and my travel agents advice because so many options were offered. I'm not experienced enough to know the best way to do excursions for such a large group of people. I participated mostly in free excursions and 2 paid. We loved the French ports and Monaco and thoroughly enjoyed the excursions in these areas. Spain was very nice, but I'm not sure I made the best excursion choices. Italy excursions were very nice, again no free time after the tour to explore on your own - 30 minutes and you had to meet back at the bus - I really hated this aspect. The only port we really did not like was Bastia - it was a dirty town with not much happening - we decided not to go on the excursion that day. The coach bus accommodations were not the best and some were not well air conditioned and too cramped. Perhaps this is the best the ports had to offer? The on-board entertainment seemed typical of cruise lines and we did see a couple of interesting shows. Mr. Brown was very good and the pianist Panos Karan was excellent. I attended one lecture by a professor and found it too dry for my taste. Regents should offer these lectures as shorter TED style talks, removing the lecturn from the stage and allowing for more intimate or even interactive and engaging talks. The lounges were varied and and the observation lounge was a bit glitzy for my personal taste with alot of reflective surfaces, but there were a couple of other lounges we liked for a pre-dinner cocktail. Premium cocktails always offered and the wine offerings at dinner were also very good. After considering all aspects of this cruise, I really think it's really all about the ship as a floating 5 star hotel with many amenties, spa services, day trips, but the wow factor is the ship. The lure of sailing on a brand new Regent ship was too strong to resist and we are very glad we succumbed! We booked this cruise way back in August of 2015, in anticipation of our celebrating our 30th anniversary, based on the itinerary in the Western Mediterranean and the appeal of sailing on the Explorer, Regent's new ship. Our only previous cruising experience was 3 years ago when we took an Alaskan cruise on Regent's Navigator. We had a lovely time on that cruise and could only assume that a bigger and newer Regent ship would offer an even better experience. We arrived in Barcelona 3 nights before the cruise sailed. We booked our own hotel reservation at the Majestic Hotel-a luxury grande dame on the beautiful Passieg de Gracia. Barcelona is definitely worthy of a multi-night visit. We were not eligible for early boarding or early access to our room, so we did not arrive at the ship until a few hours after regular boarding started. The arrivals building was easy to access and was clean and comfortable for the short time we were in it. After Regent processed us and we went through security, we happily boarded the ship to be greeted with champagne. The reception area was very spacious and beautifully decorated. We were told that our room would be ready by 2, I believe, and it was. Our luggage did not come right away and we actually wound up plucking it from a stockpile of luggage in a service area on our hall. Obviously, we would have preferred that it had been brought to our room earlier, but we didn't mind picking it up so that we could start unpacking. We were in a F2 Superior Suite. The color scheme was blue and white and was very elegant. Most of the cabinetry was white lacquer and the look could be described as a bit glam-in a very positive way. The cabin was spacious and extremely well laid out. We had a narrow, but long walk in closet with more than ample storage for clothing and shoes. In addition to space to hang clothes, there were shelves for shoes and several drawers for clothing. There was also a full length mirror in the closet, along with several mirrors in the suite and needless to say in the bathroom. The bathroom was fully trimmed out in white marble. Very elegant-not overly glitzy. We had a tub, good sized shower and 2 sinks. The lighting was very good. The shower had a thoughtfully placed bar on the wall to place your foot on when shaving your legs. The toiletries were plentiful. My level suite didn't come with a magnifying mirror, but I asked our stewardess for one and she brought it the next morning. The main room also had significant storage in nightstands, a desk area and a bar area. It was very easy to keep the suite neat because there was a place for everything. The ship felt very spacious compared to the Navigator and easily accommodated the 750 passengers. The common areas were numerous and beautiful-even the "public" restrooms were exquisite and were constantly being cleaned. Others have commented that the sight lines in the theater were poor and I would agree that in the upper level the railing blocked your view. We only attended one evening performance and made sure we sat in a seat that wasn't blocked. We went to the show put on by the cruise director John Barron. It was a bit like a variety show and a bit corny, but John has such a winning personality and a great voice, so it was a lot of fun. We were very pleased with the food. The Compass Rose was a beautiful spacious room, with a very soothing decor. In addition to the regular menu, which stayed the same every night, they had a series of different specials every night. This was a great idea because otherwise it could have gotten repetitive to eat there. We felt the service was very good. Obviously, some waiters are a bit more attentive than others. The only complaint about the food in the Compass Rose was that the vegetables were soggy and across the ship the fruit was generally not ripe. This was a shame because the fruit from the countries we visited was abundant and delicious. We do not drink wine so we can't comment on that aspect. My husband would have liked a little more variety in their beer selection and certainly would have liked to have seen a selection of beer from the countries we were visiting. Dinner always ended with a dish of petite fours in addition to any dessert you wanted to order. The specialty restaurants, Chartreuse, Pacific Rim and Prime 7, were visually striking. Dinner at any one of them felt like a special occasion. Each one offered special little touches that I don't want to reveal here because they were like little surprises. The specialty restaurants were open for lunch on a rotating basis and we took advantage of that a few times. Lunch at La Veranda or the Pool Grill was quite casual and a bit hectic, so it was fun to come back from a morning excursion and enjoy a lunch in a more elegant, refined setting. There is tea time every afternoon, which flows into Trivia. We tried to participate when we were not on an excursion. The scones were delicious! We were generally pleased with our excursions and our guides. The guides all seemed knowledgeable. Some had stronger accents than others, so it was sometimes hard to understand them. One issue with the excursions is that people would choose to go on an excursion that indicated that it would require a fair bit of walking, yet certain people were really not that ambulatory. This would slow down the group and was a bit frustrating. We discussed this with Destination Services and they were aware of the problem, but didn't really know how to resolve it as they are relying on people to assess their own walking ability. The process for departing for excursions was orderly. Our buses were always clean and well air conditioned. The best bus was in Monaco-why am I not surprised? I felt that sometimes the groups were a bit larger than they should have been. We found the women at Destination Services to be very helpful and patient. We seemed to have a question for them every day and they never seemed annoyed or tired of us. It is a well known fact that the Wi-fi service was terrible. They have a dedicated Tech person, but the quality of wi-fi was out of his control. I'm not technologically savvy so I don't know if this is an issue that can be improved if Regent puts the time and money into it. The level of service across the board was extremely high. Whenever you passed a crew/staff member in the hall they said hello. At dinner, we were almost always asked by our waiter if we had enjoyed our day. When you turned down dessert or wine or goodies at tea time, they seemed genuinely disappointed. I read that some people thought the crew were surly or unfriendly. That just wasn't our experience. Some people seemed to have particular problems with the staff at reception. Again, I approached them at least once a day and they were always very friendly and one of them always addressed me by name. Our cabin was kept very clean by our duo of stewardesses. The main pool area was spacious with comfortable lounges. Sometimes it was a bit tricky to get a lounge in the shade, but that is understandable. There were waiters constantly checking to see if you wanted a drink. The gym had a full array of equipment. Staffing was a little scarce, so if you had a question about a machine, it was sometimes frustrating that nobody was around to answer it. I was pleased to see that there was good security at all of the ports. If the port itself didn't scan your bags upon returning to the ship, then the ship would do it. They checked your ID when you left and when you returned. There was always water and towels to pick up as you left the ship. Disembarkation was orderly. We were allowed to stay on the ship until 9 am, even though we had to be out of our room by 8. There were so many lovely common areas, that it was hard to tear yourself away and go out into the real world. The new Regent Explorer is absolutely beautiful and a treat to sail on. Obviously, nothing is 100% perfect, but our overall experience was one of comfort, pampering and delicious food. Read Less

This was our first cruise on Regent. Several of our friends who were onboard have sailed with them many times. Regent and this ship were highly touted as first class. Although we had a good time for the 20 days, sadly I cannot say the experience was first class. The ship itself is new and opulent. My personal taste would have preferred less black marble and more conventional artwork but obviously much money was spent in outfitting the ship. Our cabin was a Deluxe Veranda and it was very spacious and well laid out. Walk in closet, two sink marble bathroom with shower and tub. You could not ask for a better cabin. So what is the problem? Service. Throughout the ship service just did not live up to expectations. At the bars, in the restaurants and in the cabin staff the service was sorely lacking. Long waits to catch the eye of a waiter and longer waits after giving your order. Several times we were unable to reach our steward for cabin service. The method used in La Veranda for lunch is a combination of buffet and waiter service. Very often resulting in long waits for what the waiter had to serve. The highly touted "free internet" was basically a joke. Very often unavailable after trying to log in and with a great probability that you would be logged out if you did manage to log in. The computers available had a somewhat better rate of success but even with them it was not always possible to get online. Once online it was very slow. The food varied in quality a great deal. Sometimes very good but at times dreadful. The special restaurants did a little better but not much. At times the Compass Rose seemed more like a cafeteria than a fine restaurant. Staffing seemed inadequate throughout the ship and I was surprised at how many of the crew that came in contact with the passengers had only a limited command of the English language. After all most of the passengers were either American, English or Canadian. There was a great variety of shore excursions to choose from. On balance about half of them were very good. A lot depends on the guide and some of them did not do an adequate job. Generally there were too many people in each group. The guides used the ear phones on only two of the tours. If the group is large and the guide is not the best then it is difficult to get much out of the tour. As regards entertainment the lounges had a variety of piano and trios which were very adequate. We saw only half of the nightly shows and decided we did not miss much. The ship also offered trivia contests and karaoke in which we did not participate. Had the privilege of enjoying the Seven Seas Explorer on her inaugural sailing from Barcelona to Monte Carlo. Billed as the "Most Luxurious Ship Ever Built," there's no question that this is true. A stunning ship with luxurious, all suite, accommodations and all with ample balcony space. The rooms are gorgeous with every detail thought of. We stayed in a Penthouse Suite and I would match those accommodations to any 5 star land based hotel. Large bathroom space, separate living room space, amazing beds/linens and an over-sized balcony. Butler service included. Food & beverage options are ample and the quality of the food & beverage was outstanding. Not your stereotypical buffet options. Canyon Ranch Spa and beautifully appointed fitness center. Several lounge options and large beautifully appointed theater with nightly entertainment. Some shows better than others. The service on the ship was stellar. Pretty impressive seeing as though it was the first time that this ship has sailed with passengers. Would be hard to go down a level based upon this experience. The massive amount of hype surrounding “The most luxurious ship ever built” turned out to be much more than hype. From the moment we walked on the ship we felt the ambiance of true luxury. There was the normal staff greeting with champagne but the surrounding fixtures in this grand atrium made it feel like we were walking into a luxury hotel property in the center of Rome or Paris. We took the ornate spiraling staircase down to grab some lunch in the dining room and had our first “wow” moment. As you stand and look down toward the restaurant, you feel like you are at a grand hall in a museum. The amazing glass fixtures, chandeliers and the artwork all come together beautifully. The blue glass design in the ceiling of the dining room was one of the most photographed places due to the incredible ambiance it gives to the room. Everyone seems to get so hyped up about the specialty restaurants on Regent but we found ourselves back in the main dining room more than the specialty restaurants due to the array of choices that were offered at every meal. Once we finished lunch we toured the ship. Every turn brought a new impression of art and elegance. The spa and workout facility are just one of the differences when you have a ship with this type of space to guest ratio. The entrance is a curved marble hallway that truly feels like a spa entrance at a resort versus a ship. There is a sitting area and what seemed like a full size hair salon with glass windows looking out to the art in the hallway. Once you passed the check-in desk there is another winding staircase that takes you up to the gym which is huge and has the latest and greatest in exercise equipment. In the spa itself you’ll find steam rooms, steam showers with multi spraying nozzles, aromatherapy showers where you pick your scent from a button on the wall, cold rooms with snow and more! The beauty of all of these options is that you don’t have to buy a spa treatment to use any of this as it is included at no additional fee. If you do get a spa treatment the gratuities are included in the price so what you see in the myriad of choices is what you pay. The spa staff members are all experienced from other Canyon Ranch facilities and were fabulous. Each specialty restaurant made us feel like we were dining at a top notch New York or Los Angeles restaurant. They each had their own look and feel but the Pacific Rim is really off the charts. You walk into a lobby that is centered with an authentic Tibetan prayer wheel that is so large that the ship had to be built with extra reinforcements as they only wanted to use the real thing. It’s hard to explain but it is massive and makes such a statement. You then proceed down layered steps that create such a dramatic entrance it is hard not to think you are somewhere special. With all of the specialty restaurants, the food was off the charts and the servers did a great job getting to know you for the next time they saw you onboard. We connected with Pierre who would reach out to us and remember little things that made our dining even more enjoyable. The entertainment in the evenings was nice especially with so many options. There was the showroom that had different themes each night plus two lounges with live music for select tastes along with a DJ in the observation lounge. We always found something to enjoy after dinner. The casino was full each night also. There are two pools, an infinity pool off the back of the ship by the spa (open to all guests,) and the main pool with two levels of seating. There are all types of cozy pool chairs, beds and cocoons with room for everyone. There is a culinary kitchen where you take cooking classes. This was a highlight as the chef gives out so many great tips while you are learning to cook three or four items. If you enjoy cooking, try this out but take notes! She gives so many random tips for daily cooking you just can’t remember all of them. The cooking classes do come with a fee but it is well worth it. In some ports you can even shop with the chef then come back and do the cooking. The top of the ship has a nice putting green, a tennis court, shuffleboard and an actual bocce court! The cabin that we had was amazing with a wonderful butler. There are many cabins that have the bed situated where you are both looking out to sea. It’s a great layout and the concierge cabins have a really nice size balcony with a lounge chair. The closets are huge and there is so much storage room in the cabins that you can tell they were well thought out. I can’t imagine there is a “bad” cabin anywhere on this ship. We’ve cruised on Silversea and Crystal in the past 18 months so we understand what we should expect in a luxury product and this made the mark. We can’t wait to go back. Read Less

We were taken to Portofino when the garbage was being picked up - smelly noisy and everything closed..Where after 10 am vehicular traffic is banned and all services are available. I would never go on a Regent Ship nor will anyone I know American Express has been alerted as well and I believe that travel publications should also be aware of their ineptness and being far from a 5 star experience Worse the management at their corporate offices are not capable of anything other than form letters. The only good part was the entertainment and sometimes the food..but you can get that anywhere. They also changed the itinerary before with no reason and on the final stop they were unable to accommodate most passengers on excursions The Cruise Manager..Ante..behaved like a juvenile, sending us candy when we complained.
