Our cruise started with Viking staff quickly coming to our rescue to solve a major airline mistake with our flights. From that point one we truly felt like we were honoured guests of Viking--the service and attention to detail, the on-board activities, meals, and entertainment; the flawlessly managed excursions along with the happy send-offs and warm welcomes back; and last but not least, the beautiful Viking Sea. The itinerary for this Mediterranean cruise seemed to have just the right pace. We had lots of time on the ship to enjoy it, both during the day and the evenings. We signed up for all the included excursions and some optional ones as well. Some were more interesting than others, but all worth the time to participate. Wherever reasonable Viking also provided a wonderful shuttle service between the townsite and the ship which enabled staying in town for some much-appreciated free time to explore. It was nice to have a full day of sailing mixed in as well; a quiet day to just enjoy the ship and the scenery as we floated by. Our Viking Mediterranean Odessey was a delight that we will remember with a smile forever. Read Less

This whole cruise was wonderful. The ship and the crew were the best. The trip went to all the places we wanted to go. We had a great time and met some great people both taking the trip and working on the ship. Would highly recommend Mediterranean Odyssey cruise. You might think that it is to expensive but it is well worth it for all that you get and you get much more than the other cruise lines included in the price. The food is better than any other cruise line we have been on. It's like eating at a 5 star restaurant and the specialty restaurants are free unlike other cruise lines. We loved our waiter so much we asked for his table every night. The entertainment was awesome. The shore excursions had local people doing them so we got great information about the areas and speedy entrances to all the place we went to. We really love Viking we have taken several river cruses and have always loved them and the crew has always been the best! We are going an a Christmas market cruise this coming November. Can;t wait! We chose this cruise 1 day after receiving our first brochure about VIKING OCEAN Cruises. A Romantic Mediterranean Cruise, our first with VIKING, was a Valentine's Day gift---to take place a year later, for the best pricing and discount on airfare! VIKING handled EVERY detail for flights and cruise, expeditions and transfers. LITERALLY welcomed us at the baggage carousel in Barcelona and at departure handed us off to our specific airline personnel inside the airport!! We took an extension stay in Barcelona prior to our cruise. Our hotel was wonderfully modern in the midst of Old Town Barcelona. EXCELLENT location. We discovered two great places to eat within a block on the hotel. I fell in love with Barcelona's colorful, outstanding architecture. I did a "Skip The Line" tour of Antoni Gaudi's sculpture-in-progress, Sagrada Familia----one of the highlights of my trip! Barcelona is a MUST-SEE city. I would re-visit sometime. (We had originally planned to extend our cruise with a stay in Rome. I have no regrets that we changed to Barcelona!! It was an outstanding cultural stay living there for just two days. Rome is antiquity everywhere.) The service of ALL Viking employees was exceptional. Hubby and I had been on a Panama Canal Cruise just 2 months before and could easily tell that this Viking staff sincerely, GENUINELY (from their heart) wanted to help make our entire cruise better...without exception!!! Fantastic training of personnel at all levels of service. The other outstanding feature is the minute attention to design detail for every space on the ship! The bound books that were in our cabin are worth the read...describing the art, the food, the designs. The public restrooms are generously sized, private, with a unique feature that I wish to leave as a "most delightful surprise" for new guests: an unbelievable Scandinavian treat that Viking thought fitting! The public spaces are serene, inviting, calm.....encouraging relaxation....with numerous sofas, chair, soft music, and more small libraries than I can count! A number of passengers mentioned wishing there were more days AT SEA---just to enjoy the ship! The port talks were inspiring. The shore excursions were well thought out and executed. Passengers were well informed as to what to expect each day...though, perhaps there was more walking than I'd anticipated. However, as excursions go, the walking was necessary in order to see the points of interest....Just the nature of old Europe!) The uneven cobblestones in some cities were taxing on my legs and feet. All coaches were top notch and everyone left the ship with a bottle of water in hand. NO DRESS UP NIGHTS...but "casual elegance" is desired after 6 at all dining venues. I brought too many changes of clothes. Tailored black pants and a variety of tops will go with me next time. However, FREE LAUNDRY facilities are available on nearly each deck, and with help, easy to use. All passengers were very friendly. Surprisingly, the pool grill was so unique we ate there 2-3 lunch times. The hamburgers are unique and HUGE!.....but so was a classic hot dog! An assortment of unusual, interesting, healthy salads are available here too. The food is healthful and wonderfully tasty! SPECIAL! Gelato station was the most popular of all----offering a half dozen flavors daily of ice creams made on board! The desserts are amazing and offered in "have a sample" portions. Because there are only 930 passengers embarkation took less than 10 minutes and disembarkation was well executed and not stressful or crowded....less than 15 minutes from ship to selecting our luggage to bus to the airport. One note: our cruise from Barcelona to Rome did encounter some hefty winds one overnight....but rocked us to sleep....was not frightening in any way. This might have been unnerving for someone who'd only experienced a river cruise. However, the next morning we were to have docked at Monte Carlo...but high winds prevented that. We diverted to Villafranche, France.....a lovely, lovely city of 7000 that was MUCH BETTER! Smaller, more intimate city on the Cote D'Azur with plenty of history of its own...and easy access by bus or train to Monte Carlo. (FYI: The Casino requires men wear a jacket to enter!) The crew did a superior job of "changing course" for using tenders, alternate expeditions, etc. Actually made it FUN to observe their expertise put to the test! I am a staunch Viking Cruises promoter from now on......I was overwhelmed with all the fine touches from ship to shore to service...more than I could take in! TRUST VIKING to take care of you---royally! Read Less

What a great experience. In the past, after several days, I was ready to get back home, not this time. I wanted this to continue forever. The ship was so immaculate. The crew was so professional and friendly. They seemed to go out of there way to strike up conversation, whether it was to ask me how things were going, to knowing where I was from. They had two of my favorite areas to unwind after the excursions. The favorite was the Explorers lounge. Lots of windows, relaxing with a cocktail and occasionally listening to the piano. My second was the piano area on the first floor. Second choice, only because it was more crowded.. The music, whether it be the piano or violinist, always put you into a relaxing mood with your cocktail. The food was great and service was spectacular. When we got back a little late from an excursion, they always kept the dining area open to accommodate us. A great deal of attention was paid to our room by the staff. The room which was surprisingly large was always clean and neat. The excursions were very organized. We had one hiccup, where the wind was so strong, that excursions had to be delayed and moved. They somehow got everything organized so quickly, that were able to see everything, just a bit late. Very professional. I do wish that we could have spent more time in Florence. It deserved more time. The thing that stands out the most was the fact that the ship was smaller than most cruise ships. To me this removed the "Zoo Like" atmosphere that you feel on the other cruise ships. I believe that Viking has hit a home run with smaller cruise ships. Read Less

The Viking Sky was brand new. The crew was great although new to the ship. The rest of the ocean cruise industry had better wake up. Across the board this was the best cruise on the best cruise line, I have ever experienced. I read today that Norwegian was hiking its daily fees adding on to it's nickel and dime approach to cruising. Viking is taking the opposite approach. The inclusiveness of the cruise and amenities was outstanding. Having a self-serve laundry meant I brought half as many clothes. The Deluxe Veranda cabin was ample with two arm chairs instead of a sofa and a KING bed. The bath design was well designed and beautiful. Food was outstanding with wine and beer at meals. Entertainment was very good with the little Hungarian chamber trio being the highlight. Service was exemplary. The ports select was excellent and the included Base excursions were well lead, with one exception. One excursion passed by within a few miles of St. Cyr, the famed French Military Academy, and the tour guide privately acknowledged as much to me but never made the other guests aware. The spa was included for all passengers although I must admit I did not go into the Snow Room. Spending an extra day in Barcelona after boarding allowed us to explore this marvelous city without being too jet lagged. Embarkation and disembarkation were efficient with the included transfers handled efficiently without too much waiting at the airport. Read Less

My husband and I chose Viking because a Viking River Cruise had shown what attention could be shown to a cruise passenger. We chose The Romantic Mediterranean Cruise because after 40 years in the Navy, my husband still had not sailed the Mediterranean Sea. Was it a good Choice? Yes!! Shall I compare it to the Rhine River Cruise? The size of the two ships was apparent, of course. The Longship Egil had two decks and top deck, the Viking Sky seemed to reach to the sky. On the back of my AAA card I made a little map with the eating places on one end and the meeting places or others places to go to in their place on the card. And my stateroom well marked so I would not get lost. The beauty of the public areas reflected the homelands of the owners in calm colors with dramatic artistic flourishes.. The stateroom layout would be familiar to anyone who had been aboard a river cruise except it was more spacious, of course. The closet was ample, with a panel of drawers on the open end of the hallway. The desk opened up to a divided and lighted make-up vanity, often appreciated by females. In my Deluxe Veranda Cabin, the seating area was ample.as was the veranda space. Much appreciated was the heated bathroom floors. Luxury, indeed. The food was equally fantastic on both river and oceangoing cruises. My husband and I enjoyed the World Cafe more than the Restaurant simply because it was more informal and more relaxed. Since it was buffet, I could take smaller portions fitting my appetite. And we enjoyed breakfast in our room when we had an early tour. If requested at 6:00-6:15, it came promptly at 6:00!! One big difference was that the ports of call were wonderful, beautiful harbors. Pulling into dock was an adventure in itself, though the river boats had the adventure of going through locks from one elevation to the next. River boat was weak on night entertainment while the Sky had excellent entertainment. We had spoof Operas with singers who were obviously up and coming stars. We had a Beatles concert under the pool roof and a Abba concert in the Theater, both very well done.Viking recruited the best to be had for the shows. Service superb on both. Cabin friendly and helpful. All waiters attentive. Best of any cruise line we have used. Shore excursions were appropriate for location, the tour leaders well versed in material and were well worth the money. The included excursions seemed very well thought out. River cruised handled those with mobility problems by having one bus with those who chose to be on it. On the Sky, the person in charge of shore excursions was not sensitive to the needs of those with mobility problems in their organization or the need for adaption when there was a change in schedule. The only problem on what otherwise was a wonderful trip. Would I go again? I would choose Viking again. I like feeling special. I like feeling like what I want matters and Viking will provide.. But I would go on another river cruise. But if you like swimming pools and nightly entertainment, then Viking Sky is for you. Read Less

I was invited by my friend that had just lost her husband and had this trip already planned and booked. I was very impressed with the ship and not being as crowded as other ocean cruise lines. All of the staff are very friendly and go out of their way to accommodate all of our needs. I was also very impressed on the day we were to dock in Monte Carlo and were unable to because of the high winds. The ship had to anchor in the bay of Villefranche and we had to tender to shore. That was fine and the crew did a great job with this. Also I was very impressed that my shore excursion was not canceled ( Nice, Eze & Monte Carlo), for there was much planning and rearranging. Thank you to all for this was one of my favorite excursions. This was my first cruise with Viking and we booked another cruise to Portugal's River of Gold, October, 2018. Looking forward to the next cruise and many more. Read Less

The itinerary for the Romantic Mediterranean cruise was ideal. There is no other way we would have ever seen all these fabulous cities in only one week. We enjoyed the guided tours through Spain, France, Monaco and Italy but had time for personal exploration as well. We were not disappointed! As for some of the details, we were pleasantly surprised with the stateroom amenities. It was not the most expensive category but we had a lot of space and a private balcony. We have never had such a large sink on any other ship as the one in our bathroom and were really impressed with the heated floors. Our dining experience was excellent. The quality and variety was exactly what we've come to appreciate about Viking. We always requested to share a dinner table which allowed us to get to know different passengers and make some friendships that will last beyond this trip. Read Less

Many MSC fans will take issue with my review, but I write it to help cruisers who have traveled with other lines - for you, I believe you will rate your experience on this MSC ship as only average. But let me say some good things first- have seen claim that food in dining room was not hot- in our case, not true. The other claim- staff not friendly, also not on our cruise. So let's discuss food - only of food on the formal dining- we felt quality of food was low so chefs forced to work with what they have -very little beef on the menus -I'm gluten intolerant, so could not eat the pasta, but my wife likes risotto, so both of us had the risotto for the pasta course, and we had it seven nights, and believe there was very little diff, even though each night a diff risotto was offered. On the gluten issue though there was a gluten sampling in one of the lounges, no gluten dishes were offered in dining room, and of course No gluten bread: on the issue of bread, no breadbasket on the table- you get offered bread once! Felt it was tacky one night when a flyer was given out at dinner asking if we wished to order lobstet(at a price) for tomorrow - it just emphasized the fact that you should not plan to see lobster on your plate had they not tried to make the sale, no one would have thought about it. Another fiasco was the lobstet bisque - great tomato soup, not even a flake of anything that looked like any kind so shell fish. Quality of soup, both as to content and preparation. Liked wine list, enjoyed a bottle Cava every night, final night French champagne! There are 2 policies regarding service that made me rate poor service though staff not at fault: first you cannot order a cocktail in the buffet area, wine or beer yes- for cocktails you have to go to a bar. The other issue is cabin stewards - it seems they do not want any kind of interaction between cruisers and cabin stew-I didn't talk to,our steward until the evening of our 2nd night, and to do that I had to go find him -the noon of leaving port our first day, I called the desk to ask if the steward could to our room- was told he would not be available until 6pm-I called room service to ask for ice, had some guests in our cabin, they said it be sent right away, an hour later, ice had not arrived, so we had yo leave for dinner. We thought the entertainment again was no better than average- though the afternoon performance of the Opera Carmen was ambitious and well done, with two excellent singers. There was a trio, 2 violins and piano that played classical a semi class music.Fellow cruisers will blanch at how I handle tipping on this and other cruises - on the first day, I tell the pursers office not to charge gratuities to my account : I share with the waiter and cabin attendant the full suggested tip amount, but in this case, 60% to waiter, 40'to cabin att. To end on a positive note, getting on and off the ship was the best by far I have seen in 40' years of cruising. Also, keep in mind I write this as a cruiser from North America: MSC is and has been a very successful European line and caters to that clientele. To repeat I did wanted to be of help to cruisers who need to know MSC is not Royal C, Holl.Am, Celeb, Costa or Carnivale. Regards, cruisere Read Less

Selected this cruise as a late break when very little choices were available at the time. Initially we were very impressed with the speed of embarkation at Barcelona, but this was quickly dispelled by having to wait around for some time for access to our cabin due to cleaning/preparation work to be carried out. The ships appearance was good and seemed clean, modern and well organised, our first trip to the buffet style restaurant confirmed that the cuisine was geared to a Mediterranean diet, and our first pizza was consumed. Virtually all main dishes in the evening meals used white meat (veal/chicken/fish) and in general was cooked ok. Our main concern was that in the buffet restaurant, the cutlery was dirty on several occasions which may have accounted, along with the change of diet, to my having to take imodium on three occasions. Our balcony cabin was very impressive and roomy, the toilet/shower was more than adequate but the lack of a kettle was a let down and our quilt cover had a rip in it which was still there at the end of the cruise. A quick flip through the TV channels showed that the only thing for the English speakers was Sky news which rapidly proved to be the most boring channel ever and unfortunately the TV did not accommodate a usb memory stick. We noticed that the ships passengers comprised of large amounts of children who seemed to enjoy running down the corridors and jumping off beds in cabins above making sleep virtually impossible, inconsiderate adult passengers also contributed to the mayhem by regularly coming back to their cabins at around three in the morning, shouting to each other, I couldnt understand what they were saying as it was in an oriental language! Other couples I spoke to also had the same problem and one had registered a complain about it! Needless to say, I did not get much sleep at all on my vacation! The evening shows were of a very good standard and we enjoyed a show every evening. The crew were very friendly and attentive, and would attempt to fulfill any requests you gave them. All in all, it was with mixed feelings that we disembarked with the fixed impression that this was the worst cruise we have been on (mainly due to the antics of some passengers) and that we will not be sailing with this line in the future. It seemed good value for money but it cost us more in the long run. Customer care was poor. Small complaints were handled badly & then became Big complaints. I have discovered that while using the internet on my smart phone for very short times on or near the ship has coast £112 in roaming charges as the calls were through Norway! How would any one know this or is it just another ruse to get customers to sign up to their daily charges. the lack of information to non Italian speaking guests was significant. We were often waiting to hear the message in English but it didn't happen. Even the message to go to the theatre for disembarkation instructions was incoherent. I heard the words "instruction" & "disembarkation" & had to go to the unhelpful staff at the Reception desk to discover the whole message I would not recommend Costa. There are other lines providing the same cruise locations with much better staff & food at equally competitive prices. We did not like the compulsory charge for tips. A tip is given for good service something which we didn't have. Shame on Costa. Best part of the holiday was getting off the ship & enjoying the different locations. Read Less

I chose this particular cruise because of the itinerary. I had never cruised Norwegian before, although I have been in 45+ cruises. I am spoiled by Celebrity and also like RCCL. This ship, on which Americans were a small minority (not in any way a bad thing IMO, just an observation), was just plain worn out. The cabins were so tiny (we had a balcony) and the bathroom absolutely miniscule. One actually must enter the self-enclosed toilet room sideways. The balcony was narrow and had rusted fixtures. The common areas, however, were well maintained and nicely decorated. The staff had several standouts but most, including our stateroom attendant, seemed robotic and generally disinterested. The entertainment was boring and the comedian/magician belonged at a children's birthday party rather than entertaining adults. The food was lackluster and the ship bleeds every penny out of it's guests with a hefty room service charge, high ala carte prices in its specialty restaurants and exorbitant charges for pastries in its for-fee coffee venue. The casino was nice for such a small ship and the slots were loose. The bingo games were ridiculously drawn out and chintzy - up to $50 to play TWO games of bingo. There was no indoor pool, although the deck plan shows at least a lap pool inside (there wasn't one). This left no options for swimming in cooler weather. All in all, I won't sail NCL again because of the nickel and diming. This ship needs to be retired. Read Less

Several years ago, we wanted to try a "something different" type vacation and chose to do a river cruise. We chose Viking Cruise Line and the Danube River. They "wowed" us !! Would history repeat itself if we chose the Rhine River and Viking Cruise Line ? Oh my, my, my did it ever repeat !! Recently retired and celebrating 3 decades of being married to an awesome woman, we decided to try out Viking Ocean Cruises and chose the Grand Mediterranean Tour. Folks, I will be brief. . . the Viking Sea is simply a beautiful ship, the staff are the friendliness people you will meet and their service is impeccable, the selection of food and wines are 5 star, the entertainment was superb, and the excursion guides must've received their doctorate in that country's history. Please note: When looking at booking excursions, if your excursion has an E, walking will be easy. M is for moderate. D is for demanding. Folks, D is demanding due to steep inclines, rough and long walking. Our cabin steward cleaned and refurbished our towels and toiletries twice a day ! If we needed something like extra hangars, he returned within 3 minutes with whatever we needed. Our cabin was immaculate our entire cruise. In my review's title, I wrote ". . .Exceeding Our Expectations". Whether a river cruise or an ocean cruise, if you want to get "wowed", turn to Viking Cruise Lines. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary and the ship (size, accommodations, newness, reviews). We did not want a cruise with thousands of people and casinos. We loved the buffet with all the good variety of foods to choose from and we could come and go when we wanted to eat. We never felt like we were fighting crowds and we could find a quiet place if we wanted one. We loved that this cruise went to some many places that we were interested in seeing including Tunisia and Algeria. The excursion choices gave us lots of options but at times we couldn't do all we wanted due to time conflicts with other excursions. We are in our 70's and have some walking issues so we stayed with things that weren't as strenuous. The service on the ship was outstanding and everyone always greeted us with smiles. We definitely would love to go another ocean cruise with Viking. This was our first Viking cruise and it was superior to any other ones we'd been on. Read Less

Our cruise was two separate cruises that we put together (two 7 day cruises) so we were on the ship 14 days. During those 14 days we were never bored and the entertainment was different every night. Since we went in Feb. the weather did not permit us to enjoy the pool as much as we would have liked. There spa was excellent and I had a wonderful facial there. My wife and I wanted a good price, port visits to places we had not visited (Genoa, Herculaneum and Valleta, Malta) and a return visit after 30 years or so to Barcelona. We had spent 2 nights on our own long ago in downtown Palermo, but knew there was more to see. Costa offered all the right ports and a good price. MSC Cruises had a much larger ship (3200 passengers vs 2100), visited Rome, not Naples, and had roughly similar reviews to Costa.and similar prices. Ship size and Herculaneum (Naples) made Costa the obvious choice Some reviews said the Mediterranea was over-decorated. It is bright and colorful inside, but we quickly got used to the colors and other eye-catchers. Soon the decorations added to the fun we were having. Languages posed no probem. We got the daily bulletin in English, our cabin steard (Remudia) spoke good English, as did our dinner waiter (Raj) and most other staff members we spoke with. Our excursions were in English and either German or Spanish. The ship has hospitality desk employees whose first language is English and German and at least French. Not sure about Spanish. We enjoyed the food (not counting a cheeseburger with a dried bun at the pool buffet.) We lived in Germany for 9 years long ago and traveled as often as we could across Europe so cold breakfast was no surprise. We were happy with the cold buffet breakfast for 4 days, mixed with a variety of hot eggs and meat breakfasts in the main dining room the other 3 days. Coffee, tea and juices were all free at breakfast. Like on land in Europe, coffee, tea and water were not free at other meal times. Variety was okay at lunch and dinner menus, food quality and service were excellent at dinner. We bought their lunch and dinner wine package. My wife almost always drinks red wine, even with fish, while I pair red food with red wine and fish or cream pasta dishes with white wine. Our wine package came by the glass, not full bottles, so each of us could drink the wine we wanted. Both red and white were nice wines and getting 2 or 3 refills was no problem. We booked an excursion to la Sagrada Familia church in Barcelona on the morning we were to disembark. That tour could have complicated our disembarkment, but the Enlish language host and the Excursion Desk supervisor made it easy. We got our passports early, took all our baggage to the tour bus and left the tour by the Columbus statue at the port. No need to reboard the ship or get bags at the ship terminal. A 10 Euro cab ride later, we are at our hotel for 3 more nights in Barcelona. Read Less

Several request were made to look for the bag at customer service, but after being told the bag was aboard I signed for it. The ship's officer said it had been on board since embarkcation. When I asked that they recind the charges I met the rude Mr Steven. When I contacted Princess after the cruise, I got the 'WE DON'T CARE ATTITUDE!'' Embarkation was held up for hours in Valpariso. Going ashore was held up for three hours in Rio. Food on board had the frozen portion control taste, not at all what I have previously experinced on other cruises. This lenthly cruise was definatly marketed for older people , due to the fact that only retired persons could be away for a longer time. to matters even worse I was server tainted food and had symptoms of food posioning for a week. THen the ships medical service charged me 365 dollars for a single visit. When I told the doctor that the fumes from the midship elevator shaft made my eyes water and my throat to constrict, that was nothing and I had a cold. They chargred me 26 dollars for a flu test that I did not have any flu like symptoms for. I will not be traveling with Princess again! Read Less

I choose this cruise for the visit to Naples. I was disappointed with the food. too me the buffet was very blan and the dinners where not anything special. If the cooking was Italian at it´s best then I would query this. The organization was lacking on the cruise. The cabin was very reasonable. I thought that the decore of the Ship was very over powering and heavy making you feel very enclosed. The entertainment staff seamed to support firstly the Italians, the French ! I thought that the entertainment was very average. The tours were good. ONE WORD OF WARNING CHECK ALL THE AMOUNTS THAT WILL BE TAKEN FROM YOUR CREDIT CARD! Many mistakes were made with my account and I have not received a detailed invoice. Bcareful when booking tours and make sure that the correct ones are booked and charged I would thing again before I used Costa Cruises. Read Less

I choose this cruise because unlike so many cruise lines Viking Ocean ships carry only 932 passengers. Not only was the size important, but the fact that I would be taking a trip through four countries I have come to love, and traveling back to Italy something I have dreamed of doing for years. The trip was truly amazing! Upon embarking for the first time there were warm greetings as well as champagne or fruit punch. At each port disembarkation, we were wished a fond farewell by cruise members who offered us an umbrella, should the weather call for one, a bottle of water for the road, and a green apple should the motion of the ship the night before be catching up to us. Should a passenger need an extra hand down the gangplank, there was always a ready crewman ready to help. The entire crew from the window washers to the captain couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. Everyone smiled, and I believe each truly loved their job! Our room steward was so good and helpful. He did everything he could to insure that our room was perfect and had everything we needed. (No problem asking for extra hangers.) My only complaint was that there were not enough hours in the day to leisurely enjoy every aspect the ship had to offer. By the time you returned from your excursion and ate lunch, it was time to return to town to see all that you could before leaving. By the time you finished with dinner and took in one of the programs that was being offered exhaustion for me would set in, and I just couldn't do anything more. However, that being said, I did make time to go down to the Spa and enjoyed the hot tub and jets in the pool, and we did make time to go to Afternoon Tea once. The Port Talks were excellent, and I was so glad that these could also be viewed in your room. Sometimes we were watching them as we ate breakfast in the room using Room Service before going on our morning excursion. ( It was easier when needing to disembark by 9:00 am.) I have been combing the Viking Ocean Cruise itineraries and have decided I need to go on their Trans-Atlantic trip to completely savor the ambiance of what the ship had to offer. Read Less

Viking Sea has guest capacity of 930 max. , 550 HAPPY Staff to serve you.. that's 1.7 guest per staff member! Went on the Feb 5, 2017 sailing... weather was sunny all but a half day with lite rain. What an experience... the trip is about 2800 miles by my rude calcs but sea was calm (like a River Cruise) and temp in high 50s to 60s. The ship is wonderful since Viking uses a lot of what river cruisers like. No assigned seating, great dining options. First time in the on board spa with steam room and ICE/ SNOW room, cold water bucket dump, salt water hot tubs and pool..... all free! Only comment if you cruise and stop in Monte Carlo you can not get in the Casino WITHOUT your PASSPORT.... We didn't have ours ... but then we saved a lot of $$$$! Room service available anytime, no charge.. We ordered breakfast delivered before our early excursions... Cruise was so good we booked another Viking Ocean cruise sailing Summer of 2018.. Judy broke her record and took 3,200 photos. Only printing 2000! Great trip! Read Less

We cruised on NCL’s Norwegian Spirit from February 2 through 13, 2017. This was our 58th cruise. Main-dining-room menu offerings were very good, as was the ship’s entertainment. Our Balcony Cabin 9192 was very small and uncomfortable. We experienced the same issue on NCL’s Breakaway in 2016. We have only experienced such small cabins on NCL – not on any other ocean-going cruise line. Internet system and connectivity was bad and the worst I have ever experienced while on a ship. I paid $125.00 for a 250 + 20 = 270-minute package. Could only send and receive basic e-mails. I could not upload basic MSWord files when attached to e-mails. Received various error messages. Internet manager was unable to help. Also, could not easily look at news stories because of the Internet issues. Once off the ship at a hotel, the emails and attachments went quickly, and my laptop again worked normally. Customer Service was unusually helpful. Sadly, I had my wallet lost or stolen while riding a train from Nice back to Monaco where the ship was docked. Could not find a police station to file a police report, and the ship was scheduled to sail in 90 minutes. Customer Service arranged for Port Agent Helene Lippolis of Intercruises Shoreside and Port Services to drive us to the nearest police station. No one there spoke English, and Helene was very helpful in getting the report filed, getting us a copy, and returning us to the ship. Customer Service was also very helpful in letting me notify the several banks about our lost or stolen cards. All of the NCL staff members were great!!! Read Less

We sailed on Viking Sea from Barcelona to Rome. We enjoyed every minute being on the ship and also the land excursions from every port of call. The ship is superior to any other cruise ship that we have travelled on previously. It was beautifully designed, in the Scandivanian motif, and every detail in the cabins, lounges and restaurants were first class. The entire crew were very professional and also provided extremely courteous and friendly service throughout the whole cruise. The food and wine served in the restaurants was very good with many different choices. The shore excursions were well planned by Viking and the guides provide in every port were very knowledgeable and professional. Unfortunately, the weather on our arrival in Barcelona was bad with very rough seas, which prevented us form boarding the Viking Sea until the following day. However, Viking quickly arranged to accommodate us in a 5-star hotel until we could board the ship . Read Less

This was our first time cruising with NCL. We saw this cruise advertised and though it would be nice to get away from the UK for some winter sun. The package we chose included ultimate drinks package and four dine around options. The drinks package was fantastic there were numerous cocktails, spirits and soft drinks to chose from. The only down side was you had to pay for bottled water and coffees. However an Irish coffee was included in the drinks package. As you could get a glass of water from any of the bars the charge for water didn't really bother us. The food was varied and there was always something on the buffet in Raffles to ensure you didn't go hungry. The complementary restaurants - Garden Room, Windows and the Asian restaurants also had a good variety of food including seafood and steaks. The speciality restaurants were excellent with a lots of choice. We had no problem booking them and there was a very knowledgeable man on the booking desk for advice on the menu for each restaurant. It is also worth mentioning that before service in the restaurants the staff sample the food that is going to be served that evening so they can advise guests about it. The trips offered by the cruise line were expensive but that seems to be the norm for all cruises. Unfortunately there wasn't a free shuttle bus to take you from the ship into the nearest town when you were in port you had to pay anything from $5 to $15. In many of the ports it was a long walk from the ship to the terminal entrance but there were always taxis waiting by the ship. The entertainment was average but not as bad as some people made it out to be. The bingo was very expensive and as a consequence of this not very well attended. We had a mid-ship balcony cabin on deck 10 which was lovely and quiet. The cabin was spacious and the balcony had room for two chairs and a table. It was a nice place to sit and read or watch the scenery go by. A special mention to our cabin steward who took a pride in his work and made a variety of towel animals for us to find each evening. The staff in all the bars and restaurants were extremely friendly and courteous. They all had name badges and details of whether they were Italian, Indian etc. This was very useful as we were able to have a conversation with them using their name and asking about their homeland. Unfortunately not all the guests on board treated the staff with respect. Some of them were down right rude not saying please and thank you. Just because you have paid for a cruise doesn't entitle you to leave your manners at home. Unfortunately some of the guests took freestyle to mean they didn't have to make any effort with how they looked when using the restaurants. On the other hand many guests made the effort to dress up smartly casual. A dinner jacket would have really looked out of place and only a handful of men wore a jacket in the evening. Taking all of the above into consideration we had a lovely cruise and if this is the way NCL operate their ships we will be booking another cruise with them. Read Less
