Paid top price for this cruise on the Oasis of the Seas from Barcelona to Rotterdam and bought a drinks package how if I had know what I know now after just arriving home I would have spend my money on another cruise. The main problem is that the ship was going into dry dock in Rotterdam and I suppose that Royal Caribbean just wanted to make as money as they could whilst sailing over from the USA and I total agree with other reviews is that is a fantastic ship but badly let down with customer service it as if the crew had lost interest in any form of service .Also with the drinks package the last thing I expected was as the cruise went on to be told we have sold out of that drink or there was none left .The food was well poor in all the restaurants along with the service, for example ordered ice cream but no spoons yet I was offered a fork by one member of staff and when some spoons did appear the ice cream had melted ,dropped a knife on the floor and the waiter just picked it up and walked off with it and did not bring a replacement even though he saw it what had happened. The list goes on and on it is if the crew where just not interested in the guests. The best bit was when we docked in Rotterdam we had to be off the ship by 7-30am for a transfer by coach to Amsterdam airport for a 2pm flight all booked through Royal Caribbean even driving through the rush hour traffic we still arrived at the airport by 9am that is 5 hours before our flight then to discover that checking in for our flight Royal Caribbean had forgot to sanction the E ticket not only for my wife and I but another 15 people on that flight , so asked the Royal Caribbean people at the airport who even though they where all dressed in the Royal Caribbean uniform and holding up boards with Royal Caribbean on it said it was nothing to do with them as they where just the handing agents, so after two hours of phoning Royal Caribbean myself on my mobile phone and had given them a BA email address at the airport it did after now a more waiting a total of four hours come through , Never again will I sail with Royal Caribbean as they treat there guests like cash cows sell sell every where on the ship and once you are off the gangplank wash there hands of you.Perhaps I was expecting to much but service and manners cost nothing just after all that's what we pay for and just because it is a big ship does not escuse they way they treat guests Read Less

OVERVIEW: magnificent ship architecturally - really amazing - offering good shows, live music and activities - but that is it - otherwise a real disappointment. The lack of customer service started even before we set sail. BOOKING: we ( 2 adults) booked early direct with RC in order to get the boardwalk balcony cabin that we really wanted. Paid, booked shows and my time dining, printed out luggage labels and documents- some days later went to print out setsail document only to find a completely different cabin number showing up - a cabin that we had no interest in. To cut a very long story short, it would seem that someone had changed the cabin without any contact with us at all - no explanation, no apology - nothing. After many phone calls and emails I finally was told that the change was because they had decided to revitalise certain cabins whilst at sea and I was eventually offered a cabin more in line with the original one I had booked. This did not excuse the change without notice or explanation and so I complained to the CEO's office. This resulted in an apology and an onboard credit. The credit did not appear automatically and we had to get the front desk to chase it up - appeared on day 4! (Having booked shows and dinner times to suit might as well not have bothered as most of shows had changed their times????????????????????? ) We live in Spain and so drove to Barcelona and parked in the Twin Towers parking, which is quite close to the cruise port – a short taxi ride away. Check in was efficient and took no time at all . Actual embarkation was a bit chaotic. DINING was a disaster. Even having a my time reservation system there was invariably a sizeable queue at the main dining room. The main dining room was not open for lunch on port days and remaining lunch time facilities totally inadequate - especially the Windjammer. Having paid over 3000 euros for 2 people for a 5 day cruise I was not amused at having to search for somewhere to sit and then to have to listen to announcements telling guests to vacate tables as soon as they had finished. There were other venues but again with seating problems. All in all quite an undignified experience. Food offerings overall were adequate – no more. CABIN and bathroom adequate but very basic. There are drinks available to buy in the fridge but it seems you are expected to use the toothbrush glasses. No what I would call bath towels - hand towels and towels a bit bigger than a hand towel. Bedding a disgrace - the duvets were just bags of large lumps around empty spaces with no filling at all - the attendant told me they had always been that way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The mattress topper hanging out of an unzipped cover. We booked this mini cruise primarily to see the ship - which we did, and size wise we thought it incredible - but we did not expect to be so disappointed with everything else. We would have done the behind the scenes tour but at $150 we thought it over the top. Maybe our expectations were too high - we were expecting something better than a floating holiday camp. We were expecting the customer service and organisational standards of other cruises (including a previous RC cruise on Navigator of the Seas) Will revert to less sensational but more enjoyable cruise ships.   Read Less

We used the opportunity of Oasis being in Europe for some days before going on dock in Rotterdam. Overall very impressive, most things said by other people, just to add: - sometimes you miss the feeling of being on a ship. E.g. all restaurants (besides Windjammer) facing inside the ship. While having a brilliant steak at Chops Grille you look out on bushes and trees of central park. - Windjammer Marketplace was too crowded all the time. We tried several times to go there but found always a long queue. And I hate queueing!!! We were told by other guests that there were announcements within Windjammer to make space for following guests - so hurry up while eating????! - we ended up in Chops Grille / IZUMI / Seafood shack.... all of them offer delicious food but you have to pay extra (And by the way, we do not like the main dining room on Royal Caribbean Ships - too big too crowded too much conversation with other guests and waiters) Nevertheless it was astonishing that there is plenty of space on the ship - even on days at sea (if you don't mind the wind go to the sun deck on deck 14 - lots of space!). Review OA in Europe Oasis was coming to Europe. And we had to book it! It really didn’t matter where the ship was going to, we had to be on it! So we booked the day it went on sale in the UK in April 2013 and then had 17 months to wait and plan…. We flew out to Barcelona the day before and spent one night in the Acevi Villaroel which is a nice little hotel with a small pool, around 10 minutes’ walk from Placa Catalunya. We had drinks at the rooftop bar at Hotel 1898 and then a very good dinner at a restaurant called Teller de Tapas in the Ramblas. Recommended. The next day it was up early and in a taxi to the port. So excited to see Lady O for the first time and she did not disappoint. In fact she was actually berthed at 2 of the terminals in Barcelona and in the run up to the cruise we had received several mailers to advise us. If you were in an Aft cabin you went to Terminal B and if you were at the front you went to Terminal A. As we approached the cruise terminals there were banners hanging from the lampposts reminding you to know which one you were heading for. Cab drivers were stopped and given a card with A or B on it so they were only allowed into the correct terminal..It really was very well organised indeed. Check-in and boarding was possibly the swiftest we have ever known and we were on board by 11.15. Overwhelming, stunning, impressive, how on earth does she float and move….. I think we ran out of superlatives to describe her. But most importantly our reoccurring thoughts were “how on earth do they hide 5000 people” as we had been most concerned by crowding issues. Especially as our most recent cruises have been with Azamara! The organisation and the flow of people throughout the ship was amazing. OK it was a little crowded on the RP for 70s night and in the Solarium for the Vodka party but you would expect that! We had a Boardwalk balcony on deck 11 and it appears that the cruisers of Europe are not aware of the Secret Balconies as we had it pretty much to ourselves for the duration. It is such a shame that these are being turned into cabins during her dry dock, so we feel really lucky to have experienced it. We had pre-booked 3 restaurants, and we got $30 OBC for this, and we had also pre-booked all the shows we wanted to see (despite being told by the Guatemala office that pre-booking shows no longer happens on Oasis and you book on board…). .However we never actually went to any show at the time we booked, we just went at different times, we were never checked at entry so I’m not really sure about the point and pressure to prebook. As Diamond members we enjoyed the services of the charming Ed in the DL. The DL is going to change to a location in the Dining room, which is another shame as it was nice to sit out under the umbrellas and watching the action below on the RP. The new DL will have sea views though. We noticed that the Diamond gift has also been changed from the cellophane wrapped gift box to a simple 2.5oz packet of Butter Shortbread Cookies. Perhaps an economy drive, but we did bring the packet of cookies home with us whereas we never opened or sampled anything in the cellophane wrapped box. The internet options were annoying in so much as we had a credit of $29.95pp but there was no plan to that value so you either bought a cheaper plan at $19.95 or lost the rest. I got 60 minutes for $29.95. There was an unlimited plan for the 5n voyage for $99.95. Other niggles we found were, that despite requesting our bill to be settled in $ and despite highlighting this option on the SetSail pass in bright dayglo orange, they seem to have missed this and we were invoiced in GBP. We also had issues with the photos – where we requested one to be printed and it was not of us! When I took it to the desk the lady said ‘are you sure this isn’t you’! Doh…..So that didn’t work very well! There is obviously no one proof reading the Cruise Compass as there were some glaring errors – such as the port being listed as ‘Barcelona, Spain, Florida’…..and announcing that you can see a show again on Saturday. Very nice to know but we got off on Thursday. It is little things like this which need a little more attention to detail. That aside, the cruise itself was fabulous. We were impressed, we thought the quality and variety of food offerings on board were excellent. We had lunch at Giovannis when we boarded, which is a good tip picked up on CC. This costs $15pp at lunch; and then had a light tasty Tapas meal in Vintages that night. This only cost around $15 for both of us as we had a few dishes and they are very reasonably priced at $3 -£4 each. We had a wonderful meal in 150 Central Park ($40pp) where the chocolate desert was the best I have ever tasted, and we also enjoyed the Seafood Shack (we don’t have anything like that in England). We also dined in Izumi which has ALC pricing and this came out at around $45. We also ate dinner at Chops; the menu has changed, it has been cut back, and despite having a $35pp cover charge, the were additional steaks at a further supplement, and the size of the fillet steak has shrunk from 8oz to 6oz….You no longer get the lovely basket of various breads and dips; now it is a prezel bread and some rather nasty fishy tasting butter. This was the most disappointing meal IMO. I am also aware that we paid for every dinner on board as a supplement and did not dine in the MDR; and this is because we were trying to sample as much as possible in the 5 short nights. We would never be this extravagant usually! That said, most venues were empty. Perhaps the Europeans begrudge paying extra on top of their cruise fare?! One lunch we sampled the Solarium Café which we found a little bland and disappointing (so much so that I have now cancelled our reservation for dinner there when we sail on Quantum). We got our burgers at Johnny Rockets, and also we had lunch at the Park Café but sadly never tried the famous roast beef sandwiches; we had breakfast there a few times, and also had breakfast at the Wipe Out Café where you can get eggs/omelettes to order. We only ate in the MDR once and this was at the Dreamworks Character Breakfast. There were not many children on board so I think this event was a bit ‘flat’…..and I think that now they charge $10pp for this experience it is not worth it. We were also impressed with the décor and art on board, and several little features reminded us of the Solstice class of ships which we love, such as the bathroom layout, the little leg shaver bar, and the dim lights in the bathroom. We had the drinks package and found the choice of wines and cocktails to be better than we expected. I was amazed that drinks like frozen berry margaritas were included We had planned our activities on board, we even had a spreadsheet to follow….after all, it is hard to fit in 24 bars in 5 days (but we did try…). We thought the shows were very impressive, perhaps some of the best we have ever seen on a cruise. The Oasis of Dreams was amazing viewed from ‘above’ from the secret balcony and we just loved Come Fly With Me. But it was only a 5 night cruise and there was so much we never did, we did not drink in Boleros or the Schooner Bar. We did not get to the Comedy Club, the Jazz Bar, we did not watch the Ice Show, we never set foot in the WindJammer…heck, we will just have go on again…! Disembarkation was equally smooth. We had arranged to leave our luggage with DW Consigna. Their stall was right outside the terminal and for €10 per bag they took our luggage and delivered it to us at the airport 10 hours later. An excellent service. We caught the Blue Bus over the bridge for €2pp and then had a very enjoyable day walking around Barcelona. We had drinks at the impressive W Hotel, a wonderful Tapas lunch on the beach, then we walked back via the old town to catch the airport bus for €5.90pp back to the airport. In summary. Excellent, Overwhelming, Stunning and Impressive!   Read Less

The ship is an engineering wonder with magnificent facilities but the service on board was appalling because it is apparent that the officers are conspicuous by their absence and do not communicate with the crew. The cruise on The Oasis was our seventh with Royal C and the short cruises they offered from Barcelona afforded the opportunity to experience first hand the ship that has received so much press but without the need of travel to The United States. The exceptional service and standards we have experienced on their other ships is not available on the Oasis and the safety drill at the start an absolute shambles - staff gave guests 3 different times for the compulsory drill resulting in chaotic conditions on the 5th deck where the drill is held. Guest services are a joke and guests can expect to queue for over an hour because the desk staff are not supervised by an experienced officer and passengers should expect long delay if they require food in the restaurants included in their package when the ship is at sea We requested on their form the 9.00am departure from the ship and received tags for 6am resulting in the need to queue at guest services for 1 hour and 20 minutes to effect an alteration   Read Less

Firstly, I would say that I am not easy to please. I'm not particularly proud of this fact but it's important to know when reading this review. So, here we go:- This ship is amazing, we had a fantastic time. Yes, the show times changed but they did give you plenty of warning and you could easily re-book them. The main production was Hairspray which was absolutely fantastic. I have seen many West End productions and this was easily as good, if not better, than many. The Aqua Theatre was amazing. We saw the main production and then the 'comedy' production, both of which were fantastic. Costume changes and other small touches that made all the difference from being a good to a spectacular show. Exactly the same comments apply to the Ice show which was also spectacular and a feat to put on. We had a cabin overlooking Central Park. Before embarking, I was a little dubious thinking there may be a few trees and plants but nothing overly special. I was completely wrong it was done amazingly well with all the plants and tree together with the restaurants and cafes which really did give it a 'Park' feel. Sounds ridiculous but it's true. The promenade was also amazing. We ate at all most of the speciality restaurants and really enjoyed them. Vintages was a fantastic find with a wine list to die for!! I could go on but I think you get the drift. If you want to escape from reality for a few days, this is the ship for you! Have fun!! Read Less

I've been on the Allure of the Seas 3 times before my first trip on the Oasis of the Seas, so it was nice to see what differences there were on the Oasis. I am writing a pictorial review on http://cruiseforums.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=44201225 which goes into more detail of what I did day to day. My overall experience on the Oasis of the Seas was good. Because of the short trip, I didn't expect an exceptional service, but just the basics. I barely saw my stateroom attendant during the week, but he was helpful when required. Dinner service was ok, but this is something I have experienced 3 times on the Allure of the Seas, so wasn't expecting a lot. I am starting to take the hint that the "Recommendation of what to eat" was pretty much rehearsed and not something that the table waiters would really recommend. I could be wrong, but it's no big deal. There were a couple of days of rough seas around Italy, but nothing serious. It took me 3 days after the cruise for me to get used to being on land again. Overall my experience on the cruise was good. The 2 excursions I took were ok (Olive Oil tasting in Rome and a visit to Capri, Sorrento and Pompeii). I will probably revisit Capri, Sorrento and Pompeii outside a cruise to spend more time there and explore the area fully. The cruise director was ok (Drew). Reminded me of Joey from Friends, but without the personality. I would probably need to experience him as CD again before I can change my mind. Read Less

The staff was great. The performances outstanding (Especially the aqua show). The specialty restaurants offered some of the best meals I can remember. But for the price you pay, they really take advantage of you on the little things. We paid over $1,000 for 'all inclusive' dining. Literally, you could order 3 appetizers and 2 mains if you wanted to. Yet you had to pay for soda? I don't drink soda so I didn't mind. Meanwhile, I just stayed hydrated with the water that was supplied in the room. When I got my bill I owed over $200 in water! I was shocked because there was no sign saying the water wasn't complimentary. What did they expect me to do in the middle of the night, walk down the hall and down a level to the water fountain in my pajamas? If they cared at all about their patrons they could offer the basic necessities for free. I am appalled. Secondly, internet fees were close to $45 a day. I was on vacation so I didn't want to spend much on internet....however, I did just like to check in with the babysitter to make sure everything was ok at home. Internet is not expensive these days and offering it for free or even a reasonable price will not break their bank. The 'free' dinner smelled like a retirement home. There were too many people on the boat. Overall, I felt they didn't accommodate my basic needs. Out of principle, I will not sail with them again. Read Less

We sailed on the Oasis of the Seas on a 7 night (Med / Netherlands) cruise starting from Barcelona on 23 September. This is our fourth cruise with RC on smaller ships and there is no doubt that this ship has the wow factor - it certainly creates quite a stir, as we were greeted by large crowds and local press at various ports. As usual with RC the checking in (and out) was smooth and we found our ocean view balcony cabin (12608 aft) to be clean and spacious with plenty of wardrobe space and hangers. A number of people we spoke to agree that the entertainment on this ship is very good and we particularly enjoyed the comedy club which is strictly for adults. Our cabin attendant Camilla was fabulous as was the Champagne bar attendant, however generally we found the staff on the ship not as friendly as those on other RC cruises, albeit they were efficient and professional. We ate in various places and the Chops Grille remains our favourite speciality restaurant. We were however surprised that the Windjammer on this ship was no bigger than the smaller ships and the food selection not as varied…it's also the first time we have had to queue on an RC ship which does seem rather odd considering it's one of their biggest ships. The overcrowding issue also applied to the upper decks as it was not always easy to find a sun lounger which did create tension amongst certain guests when trying to make an early morning claim via placing their towel on a sun lounger but unaware that staff will remove the towel after 30 minutes if the lounger remains unoccupied. We went on a morning trip to Marbella and Puerto Banus which we enjoyed and did our own thing when we docked at Vigo, which is well worth a visit as we didn't realise how big the city is. Overall, we had a lovely time however, it felt as if there was about 1,000 too many people on this ship and therefore didn't meet our expectations in full, but we would sail again on the Oasis.   Read Less
