The Great Outdoors. Has a nice size bar and buffet. Best of all, it's own soft-serve ice machine.

Review for a Europe - Western Mediterranean Cruise on Norwegian Gem

After months of research, looking for a vacation for a group of 11 family members that included teenagers and senior citizens, we decided on the Gem. My wife and I have sailed on Princess, RCCI and our favorite, Holland America and were a little concerned about the reviews of NCL. Here is the good and bad as honest as I can be. GEM - Beautiful ship, we were in a AE suite(aft) and it was great. ...

One couple traveled from the US to meet the other three couples in the UK for our flight to Barcelona, where we had booked the two-day pre-cruise package. Our British Airways flight to Barcelona was delayed an hour when a already checked-in family misplaced a child, frighteningly not located by the flight time. The general mood on the plane was of sympathy with the parents and concern, and the ...

Just back on the GEM- and have just booked the GEM again! We loved the NCL GEM on its Nov. 8 '09 W. Mediterranean sailing -- and have booked it again for its Jan. 24 '10 Caribbean sailing from NYC. That should say something! NCL: The Nov. 8 sailing was our 6th NCL cruise in the past 4 years, and our 3rd NCL cruise this year. Obviously we enjoy cruising (though we do independent land ...

BARCELONA, SPAIN Our plane landed about 7:30 AM. By the time we went through customs, got our money exchanged it was nearly 8:15. One interesting thing was that they had us fill out the Immigration forms before we arrived. I had left ours in the pocket of the plane so figured I would have to refill them out. The custom agent looked at our passports and said to go ahead. Real security, huh!! We ...

Service: great, no complaints. Our steward, Michael, was s sweet. On the first day we asked for 2 extra towels and he made sure we had extra towels every day. He was always around, and was glad to help us in every way possible. The servers at the Italian Restaurant were also very nice, we had a great time dining there. And I can't forget to mention the "washy washy" guy at the Garden Cafe. It was ...

We flew into Barcelona the day of the cruise, arriving BCN around 1pm. There were many taxis waiting. It took about a half hour to get to the port. The taxi was metered, when we arrived, the driver added other fees to the meter, port fees, bag fees, etc. The meter said 26 euros, we paid 32 with the add ons. Embarkation was a breeze, no wait at 2:30. We were on the ship by 2:45, greeted ...

GEM Oct 11—18 Ports: Barcelona, Malta, Naples, Rome, Pisa/Florence, Cannes, Barcelona I would like to start this review by saying I am not a real spontaneous person. Sure, maybe going out to dinner unplanned, or even a trip to the mall, but I always plan my vacations VERY far ahead. Well, this vacation broke that rule for me. Less than 24 hrs before take off, I planned the entire thing! ...

We arrived in Barcelona a few days before the cruise, checked into Hotel Jazz, and decided to take the hop on hop off bus. The hotel was very accommodating - our room was ready and very comfortable. After freshening up, we checked with the hotel about the bus tour, and not only got directions to the closest stop, but also got discount coupons for the tour. This was a very good choice for our first ...

Western Med Cruise On Your Own We have been on over 11 cruises and have traveled to Europe several times, so were interested in trying to do our NCL Gem cruise, roundtrip from Barcelona, booking our own shore excursions as much as possible. We had an online "booking special" that included $200 obc, a balcony cabin, air from and to Miami, all transfers, and one night pre-cruise stay in Barcelona ...

My husband and I decided to leave the kids at home for this cruise (they are 20 and 24 !). It was a semi-retirement gift for my husband and he has always wanted to go to Italy. We flew over from America a week before the cruise and stayed in Madrid first before fly to Barcelona to join the ship. We are novice cruisers, so admittedly we don't have a lot to compare it to but the Norwegian Gem is ...
