Our first HAL experience on board of the Nieuw Amsterdam: it was a very smooth and sunny cruise.
Smooth: as the staff front & back of house worked very hard and above all: they engaged all passengers and were all extremely friendly providing excellent service.
Food on-board was overall very good to excellent: buffets in Lido with plenty of choice. Also evening BBQs at pool side or aft deck (we ...
We cruised on the Nieuw Amsterdam from October 6 - 13th in the Western Mediterranean. We visited Palermo, Naples, Civitavecchia, Livorno and Toulon. The week was fantastic. The staff on board the ship were wonderful. We loved the ports. The ship is in good shape. The only qualm we had with the cruise was the disappointing/uninspired dining room food. Dinner was so poor that my wife and I ate in ...
We stayed at the HAL recommended Hotel Melia Barcelona before the start of our cruise and took the HAL transfer to the ship. This was the first time for my husband to see some of the places that I have been to many times. We started our cruise with a Trip Advisor tour of Sagrada Familia church the day we arrived in Barcelona. The next day we were transferred to the Nieuw Amsterdam by bus with ...
What a fantastic 12 nights my bride and I had aboard this wonderful ship! I will write this review categorically beginning with
Service: The best part of the cruise!!!! With the exception of one surly fellow working the waffle station and one incident in the gift shop, the staff on board made the vacation an amazing one!
Ship Layout, Design, Decor, and Cleanliness: A very well laid out ship, ...
This our first attempt at a review and we will attempt to comment on things that may be helpful to people contemplating HAL for the first time. We will not attempt to comment much on the individual ports as others could do that much better. This was our first HAL cruise but we have been on two Celebrity cruises previously. We are in our 70's. Weather was between 26 and 32 degrees Celsius during ...
Having just returned home from a 24 day cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam around the Mediterranean I wanted to write a review as to why my family and many others I spoke to, will not be travelling with HAL again, as I’ve spent a lot of money with your company and also spent the large part of 48 hours travelling around the world to join the Nieuw Amsterdam, I just felt that even just to make myself ...
This was our first cruise, and we chose it mainly because of the choice of such varied destinations, and its 12 day length.Behind our thinking was the view that if we decided cruising really wasn't for us, we wouldn't be stuck on there for longer than 12 days We also got to see a little of France, Greece, Croatia, Sicily, and Italy. The choice proved to be just perfect. Embarkation: This ran ...
We flew into Barcelona two days early and had a private company meet us and take us tat o our hotel. Two in our party don't walk well and we used private companies several times during our cruise. It was worth every penny and the private tours we took in Pisa/Florence and Naples were actually much less than HAL's private tours and approximately the same as the HAL standard tours. In Barcelona we ...
This was our 4th Holland America cruise experience with approximately 35 other cruises on many other lines, past & present. We chose this sailing based on our desire to experience an Atlantic crossing and sail on HAL's newest ship, the Nieuw Amsterdam.
First, the excellent: We have learned from experience that no one does logistics as well as HAL. We were traveling from Miami on an award ...
My spouse and I were on our first transatlantic cruise with HAL on the Nieuw Amsterdam for the Transatlantic farewell and we embarked in Barcelona on October 29th.
Embarking was quick, smooth, a pleasant experience free of hassle that some of our friends told us to expect. Our first day on board was pleasant and the weather was sunny but chilly on our on time departure.
As this was our first ...
