We had done a River Cruise with Viking on the Rhine River Basel to Amsterdam. Vikings level of service was outstanding. Last Year we did our first Ocean with Viking on the Sun British Isles Explorer London to Norway 16 Days. It again was outstanding! Fantastic Itinerary. For this Summer we chose Viking Star on the 12 Night Mediterranean Odyssey. I can't say enough great things about the ship and crew as a whole. Everyone works extremely hard and pleases each and every guest. From our cabin (Deluxe Veranda) 3066, was always immaculately kept, House Keeping, Room Service, Maintenance when I locked our safe incorrectly. Wine Service all top Notch! The shore excursions were fantastic, especially the ones we chose. Unfortunately when we signed up for excursions, 2 were Sold Out, The Helicopter tour over Monaco and the French Riviera and the Gondola tour in Venice. However when we were on board Alonya working at the front desk who had sailed with us on Sun British Isles Trip was unbelievably helpful and got us waitlisted and cleared for both. Amazing Service and Amazing tours. Another familiar face was Hector the Wine Sommelier! He is fabulous and was so accommodating with our wine selections along with Ramon the wine steward. They both made a point to come to our table at dinner every night with recommendations. The Dining options are wonderful, the food amazing and the service again Top Notch, We never waited for anything whether a cocktail poolside, water service on the Aquavit Terrace or in any restaurant. Embarkation and Disembarkation super smooth. Our luggage did not make our connection as we were delayed out of Boston but the crew got it to our cabin before we even arrived. The only slight thing I would mention is that a few of our Ports of Call were not that pretty for the cruise Terminal. Would prefer to Moore off the coast and tender in but I understand all of the logistics in moving all the guests, buses etc. Monaco was Amazing. We just booked New Zealand, Australia and the Great Barrier Reef with Viking for 2020! :) Will never choose any other company than Viking. They do everything extremely Right :) Read Less

We sailed on the Oasis of the Seas on 30th June for a 7 night Med cruise, calling at Palma, Marseilles, La Spezia, Rome, and Naples. Boarding was in Barcelona and the ship is so large that it boards over two terminals. We were allocated terminal C and after dropping off our cases we were on board the ship in less than 30 minutes from arriving at the terminal. Upon boarding, we were greeted with a glass of bubbly, which was a nice touch. As we were in an Aqua Suite, we headed up to the suite lounge, which is a calm oasis away from the hustle and bustle of boarding day. In the suite lounge, we were able to book a couple of shore excursions and signed up for a 3-night specialty dining package. One benefit of being in a suite is the use of the suite lounge which is open all day for snacks, drinks and table service in the Coastal Kitchen Restaurant which is incorporated into the lounge. We ate lunch in the Coastal Kitchen, which was delicious and then headed to our Aqua Suite no 14330. This was a very nice suite with a separate lounge and dining room and a bathroom with a full-sized bathtub. The balcony was split and to be honest I would have preferred one of the lower Aqua Suits with a wrap-around balcony. We did have some issues with a leak in our cabin, but the housekeeping and maintenance teams sorted that out very professionally. During the week the temperatures were very high, mainly around 30 degrees so it was quite tiring to walk anywhere off the ship. We stayed on board during the first two ports and enjoyed the ship. There is so much to see and do onboard, one review would not do it justice. Day 3 we took a tour which involved taking a ferry to a very picturesque island, the ferry took around half an hour to cross the bay but the walk from the ship to the ferry took longer, not an excursion for anyone with any walking difficulties. Next day we did an olive tasting tour, this I would highly recommend. A beautiful scenic drive through Tuscany and a visit to a farmhouse once owned by the brother of Napoleon, which today is an olive farm. At the last port of call, Naples, we walked off and not far from the port found a really nice restaurant and ate authentic Napali Pizza, just 4 Euro each for a large pizza. Whilst onboard there is so much entertainment going on, from Aqua SHows, Ice SHows, West End Style Theatre Shows, comedians and musicians as wella s Karaoke for those who like to entertain themselves. There are seven neighborhoods onboard the Oasis but we really liked Central Park and The Boardwalk. There is a vast choice of where to eat on board. You have of course Coastal Kitchen for Suite guests and the Windjammer buffet-style Restaurant, then for snacks, you have the Boardwalk Hot Dog Stand, Sorrentos Pizzaria, The Park Cafe and for Tapas you have Vintages Wine Bar. For dinner, you can choose the main dining room or plump for a specialty restaurant. You can choose from Izumi Japanese, Sabor Mexican, Choppes Grill Steakhouse, Giovanni's Table Italian or our favorite the 150 Central Park Bistro. All of these come with a supplement, but if you purchase a dining package you can get a good discount on the cover charges. I would have to say that the food on this cruise was about the best we have experienced on a cruise ship and the staff and service from every member of staff without exception was fantastic. We had the opportunity to meet the Captain and The Hotel Director and the ship, crew, food, and facilities are a credit to them. We had an awesome cruise holiday and can't wait to get back to what I think is our new favorite ship Read Less

We had been on MSC Seaview late last year, and while on board we took the opportunity to book this cruise and take the option of trying "Club Class". So we arrive at the port in Barcelona where we are immediately relieved of our cases and escorted to the "Yacht Club" lounge area where our cruise ticket and passport were taken to process our booking. Meanwhile we are offered champagne and canapes which were very nice. Then we are escorted directly through check-in and security check, after which we were escorted directly to the ship and taken to deck 16 which is the entry deck of "Club Class". Then on into the Sky Lounge where we met Raj one of the concierges, he explained all the choices we had in relation to eating and excursions, he also helped us log on to the ships Wi-Fi system. He asked did we want any news papers,so we got the "Irish Independent" delivered to our room every morning. Madie our butler came and took us to our room, where our luggage had been delivered, we were given her phone number for use 24 hours a day. Restaurants we were taken to the "Yacht Club" restaurant where we had lunch served by happy cheerful staff. Unlike most ships restaurants this had many tables for two, and plenty room to move around. We booked dinner for 21:00 that evening. On arriving for dinner we were seated at a table near the window, then offered a drink, which we availed of. Presented with the menu containing quite an extensive choices, the waiter told us about the specials and gave us some suggestions. Given the level of service and extensive menu we decided we would dine in this restaurant for the cruise for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Wondering through this vast ship we say the wonderful crystal staircases throughout the ship. The shopping arcade area has the most wonderful lighting system constantly changing views. Plenty shopping opportunities and as always on cruises the constant special offers sales. Numerous bars and coffee shops, large casino for those that fancied a flutter. We were so impressed with the whole "Yacht Club" experience that we went to meet Claudia the "Book Your Next Cruise" Rep and selected another cruise next September, she printed out the details. As i did not take my wallet, she said she would be in the Sky Bar that evening and I would pay the deposit. So as promised Claudia arrived and we went over to see her, she then said she had looked at our booking and had got an even better offer which reduced the cost so we happily paid our deposit and retired to have another G & T Unfortunately all good things have to come to an end, we had our breakfast and then back to the room and a last tidy up. we were then directed by Raj to the bar and we would be called for disembarkation. Madie arrives and takes us down to deck 4 and the gangway and on to baggage reclaim where she gets our cases and takes out to the taxi rank and calls us a taxi and loads in the cases and we say our goodbyes. Embarkation went very smoothly. Found the ship very disabled friendly, was nowhere my partner couldn’t go ( he’s a full time wheelchair user) We booked a disabled inner porthole cabin 4498. What can I say, it was massive, wetroom was large all very wheelchair friendly. It was near the lifts too, perfect!! Dining.. tried the Italian restaurant (paid extra) for our friends 60th birthday.. was disappointed with the food. The food in the Windows main dining room was really nice.. only one complaint.. some of the staff need to be trained better!! They were taking away some of our starter plates while someone was still eating.. bad etiquette!! We ate in the Shogun restaurant.. was lovely too. Entertainment.. found it so so.. the house band was very good listened to them a lot. Service on board was fantastic.. didn’t wait any length of time for drinks etc.. we thought our wine Steward Paula was excellent, such a happy friendly girl. Our room steward Neil was great. Enjoyed the towel art on our bed most nights Read Less

We were just on the maiden voyage across the pond of The Symphony of the seas. I don’t know where to start. The ship is gorgeous. The murals, the hanging art in the elevator shafts, the public rooms, the restaurants, all the art work. The ship is a feast for the eyes. The cabins were decorated very nicely and had loads of places to store your clothing. The staff was amazing. Always smiling and always asking what they could do for you. The food was actually the best we had ever experienced on a ship. The meats were so tender and flavorful, and every night things were varied. The lunch display in the main dining room, whether a la carte or buffet was different everyday, and almost too beautiful to eat. The theatre venues were as always, spectacular. The shows were broadway worthy and the new world of computer generated scenery during the productions left us with amazement.. It’s so nice to not have to open a restroom door with a handle. All restrooms on the ship have panels on the wall you wave your hand in front of and the door opens automatically. That is a wonderful thing for all. The pool areas were brightly colored and the new slides from the top of the ship down to the pool areas were amazing. The children’s pool was delightful and looked like a Rube Goldberg contraption, making old and young smile. As usual there is an ice skating rink, flow rider, rock climbing ,carousel and anything else you would want on this fabulous ship. Once in a while there was a line of passengers waiting to get into a show, but that really wasn’t much of a problem..with more then 6000 passengers it was never too crowded to enjoy yourself. You could be busy all day and night and never get bored. This ship makes you smile. We had recently been on an Oceania cruise what a difference like night and day. The food here was so much more superb and the entertainment couldn’t be compared. We can’t wait to go on the ship again. A+ for this new wonder..... Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary because it was visiting places we had not visited before. The ship whilst being 20 years old was in very good condition overall. Because my wife is in a wheelchair we had booked cabin 3102 which was an oceanview accessible cabin on deck 3. The cabin was very large with plenty of room for the wheelchair and a roll-in shower. Plenty of storage space so we were very pleased with the cabin, We mostly ate in the Aquarius MDR on deck 5 with MyTime flexible dining. We tended to eat around the same time most evenings (depending on the times of the shows which kept moving around different times !) so the maitre D reserved us the same table near the entrance and made sure that the chair was removed to that my wife could get her chair to the table. The service from waiter Helbert & his assistant Francisco was superb - they were excellent even down to cutting my wife's meat into smaller pieces which she has great difficulty doing as she only has the use of one arm. The menu was good but quite repetitive - many items appeared nearly every night with just a few changes per night but the food was good quality and if you did not like what you ordered they were quick to change if for an alternative. We had the premium drinks package and at dinner we had the house zinfandel rose which was very good but because of the way the package works it came by the glass rather than the bottle which meant we had to keep re-ordering - very odd! We ate one night in the specialty restaurant Giovannis - the food was excellent and was worth the $ 35 surcharge. The entertainment in the theatre was a bit patchy - only a couple of west-end type productions which were very good but the rest were a strange array of 'speciality' acts - A mime artist who was so poor he nearly emptied the theatre - a Celine Dion tribute who insisted on using taped backing even though the Ship's 9 piece orchestra (who were superb!) were also there to back her - A silhouette 'shadow' act - etc. etc. All very strange. Overall, everywhere on the ship the staff and service were excellent. We did not use any of the Ship's excursions as they only had ONE ! which was wheelchair accessible (on a 12 day cruise!) and we understand from another wheelchair user who had booked it, that it had been cancelled at short notice! On the plus side, where the ship docked in a commercial port (Livorno - Salerno) they ports had supplied a wheelchair accessible shuttle as well as the inaccessible shuttle coaches. Now the major niggle! In the port of Venice, there was supposedly a 'short' walk from the gangway to the port shuttle service/waterbus - I measured this with a pedometer and it was over 3 quarters of a mile which for any people with reduced mobility was ridiculous! Why could the ship not arrange for a golf buggy or minibus to cover this anomaly! - Many, many people very very upset about this !!! Lucky my wife's wheelchair is electric so this did not cause us a major problem but it did for many of the ship's passengers. So in summary - an excellent cruise let down by the 'patchy' entertainment, the 'repetitive' food and the accessibilty problems in the port of Venice! We would probably book with Royal Caribbean again purely because of the quality of service from the staff, but we are not loyal to any particular cruise line choosing our cruise mostly by itinerary Read Less

Having experienced a Viking river cruise 2 years ago, we thought we would try an ocean cruise. We arrived at the departure city 10 days in advance to explore and enjoy - then went to the ship. Vueling Airlines (normally I would not name an airline - but this organization deserves to be mentioned) lost one of our bags and the folks at Viking went the extra distance (literally - from Monte Carlo to Nice) to recover the bag even though they were NOT part of the problem. Customer service was perseverant and excellent! Following the official christening a week prior, we were the first passengers to experience this brand new ship - and what a treat it was! These folks know what it costs to offer a 5 star trip and do not nickel and dime you along the way. Viking does not do anything on the 'cheap'. They truly make it a 5 star experience. Just prior to arrival, we were informed by e-mail that we had a complimentary upgrade to a Penthouse Veranda Stateroom (possibly because we had sailed with Viking in the past). Cabins are very comfortable and spacious with lots of storage within. Little things like a heated bathroom floor are abundant and well thought out. The cabin attendants are quick, thorough and very well trained. The ship graciously provides you with a list of the room's contents...and relative value should you decide to tuck something in your suitcase upon departure. You are free to bring whatever alcoholic beverages with you - unlike the other lines that depend on the 'booze packages' to top up their tills! Every palate is taken into account - from gourmet to buffet - the menus are fresh, innovative, varied and absolutely delicious. Evening menus featuring local cuisine, appropriate wines and attentive table service is spot on! For some reason, my wife and I expected an upper end IKEA atmosphere - instead, we got Neiman Marcus (on steroids). Each of Vikings ocean ships have their own unique venue within. In this case, it is an astrological domed theatre featuring well produced movies on space and the arctic experience. An intimate gathering with comfortable seating and about 6 projectors to generate a state of the art presentation. It is kept fairly cold so may want to bring a jacket - or the cashmere blanket from your stateroom! Every member of the staff from the Captain to the maintenance man looks you straight in the eye and says hello - and asks (sincerely) how your day is going. If a member of the staff is not working up to expectation - they seem to disappear for a day - then surface a day later with a broad smile, attitude adjustment and increased efficiency. They do not treat the passengers with an underlying distain that many cruise line staff seem to purvey. When asked "What's it like to work for Viking?" without fail, they are very complimentary about the personnel management policies, hours of work, perks and staff accommodation. The majority of the guides hired for the on-shore excursions are, educated, entertaining, enthusiastic, and experienced. Accents can be a bit of a challenge from time to time but Viking expects a report card at then end of the tour ensuring that the guide performed up to Viking expectations. Unfortunately the shipboard WiFi can be a little flakey if you are using your own laptop of cell phone. There is a bank of 6 hardwired computers on the main deck along with a printer should you happen to need one. In summation, we expected great - and got an 'over the top' experience. Viking deserves the accolades it receives from the various travel organizations. Would we spend this much again for a cruise? If it is with Viking, the answer is yes! Read Less

We chose this cruise for the ports. We wanted to do the western Mediterranean. We were not disappointed. Everything was wonderful. The room was plenty big enough. There was more than enough storage space. Two closets for hanging clothes, plus three drawers. We were able to put our two large suitcases in the one closet one on top of the other. My carry on fit by the couch near the sliding doors. The balcony was large. We were in room 9224. Contrary to what some people said, the frosted glass on the toilet and shower areas was not a problem. There also was a curtain that could be pulled over to separate that area if it bothered someone. The food was excellent. We ate at the garden cafe several times. The choices were unbelievable. The taste and Manhattan room were also terrific. Shanghai had fantastic Chinese food. The staff was incredible. So pleasant and accommodating. We usually stopped at Maltings whiskey bar on the 7th floor each night. Kit, the wait server was so nice and always knew what we wanted. Our housekeeping person, Arnold, was the best. Such a wonderful man. They both made us feel special. The Cavern had a Beatles band, who were very good. Shore excursions were a little on the pricey side, but very good. The embarkation and disembarkation were fine. Was very quick and easy. Read Less

The food on board was not as 'regional' as I would have liked but all else was great, including the trips in towns and the local guides. I especially enjoyed the spa on the 1st floor. From the pool to the jacuzzi, the cold snow room, the sauna, the steam room and the cold plunge -- Plus the Massage technicians. This was a Total Plus!! This experience helped to make traveling all that more viable! And the places we visited -- we learned a lot and became acquainted with so many different cultures! I am very glad we chose to add on Iceland. This was an extra special treat! The Blue Lagoon, The Golden Circle, and people of Reykjavik were Incredible! Thank You Viking for this Opportunity. it seems that there are almost as many experiences of the same vacation as there are passengers. We all come with our own expectations and our own idea of value for money. We chose the Norwegian Spirit because of the excellent itinerary and good pricing and even when the itinerary was changed and we did not get to visit the Canary Islands and Madeira due to rough seas in the Atlantic, we were able to overcome our initial disappointment and still have a fabulous trip. We travelled Feb 23 to Mar 5. It is true that this ship is a little more dated but there were things we did love about it, all the woodwork and the Asian finishes, the excellent, friendly and attentive staff - some of the best we have ever experienced. We enjoyed our pre-dinner drinks at Champagne Charlie's and the excellent musicians who serenaded us each evening. Excellent dinners at Cagney's, casual fare at the Blue Lagoon and really good Whisky Sours at the Shanghai Bar - made with Crown Royal. We found the Buffet quite good too... especially on those days when it was warm enough to sit outside and enjoy the sea air. We also enjoyed the smaller complimentary Garden Restaurant and Shogun . We really liked the vibe of the whole ship and it attracted a nice mix of fellow passengers. We had a really nice spot, a suite on the 10th deck with a whirlpool tub and shower that both looked out over the ocean. This is one of the few NCL ships that has this smaller suite with this amazing and spectacular feature. We did have a butler and a personal concierge so I realize we had lots of perks. We were very well treated, including our son who is on the autism spectrum. He requires a special diet and this was handled seamlessly for him. We enjoyed the tours - they were well organized. I think though, that we would also have enjoyed ourselves even in less fancy accommodations cause we were just so pleased to be able to afford the time and the adventure - We saw lots of Spain and Morocco due to the amended itinerary and everyday there was a new Suduko and quick crossword on offer in the library! Memorable wonderful time - We met quite a few fellow cruisers who had been on this ship multiple times. Read Less

The Quest is a beautiful small ship. This was the second of our b2b. The food everywhere is excellent. The standard drink package is perfectly good for us. The wines were very nice, so we neither needed to order anything special nor a bottle of wine. We had an Ocean Suite all the way forward 6002. Loved the veranda even though it seemed awkwardly laid out. I still have no idea why there is a Butler. Ours, Eyup, was really a very nice man and always asked if we needed anything. He brought tea and set it up for us unless we asked him not to. The suit was nice but was a little worn. The breakfast in discoveries was always wonderful. There were brunches on Sundays, I didn’t really have any feelings about it. The food was excellent no matter which venu. The bartenders were great as well. The Casino was woefully under used. Embarkation and disembarkation always go smoothly. Ports of call/ excursions are always fabulous! We enjoyed each shore excursion we took with the professional, knowledgeable tour guides, and did a few fun self-guided tours on our own. The cabin is comfortable, clean, and well maintained, with marvelously helpful room stewards. Dining is in the main dining room and Windjammer buffet are 4-star experiences, with excellent meal choices. The wait staff are fun, friendly, and very helpful . At the end of the cruise, you wish you could take them home with you! The activity director is well experienced, does a great job, and is an all-around super-great personality. I really liked the show Magic, Ice show, carnival on the waterfront. Parties with the participation of artists and disco Retro FM were above all praise. Thanks to the Royal Caribbean Company for an unforgettable experience. We will definitely go again, but not in the Mediterranean, but in the Caribbean. I really want to swim in the warm and beautiful sea, look at the beautiful fish. Next summer we are planning a trip to one of the vessels of the Royal Caribbean Company. If funds allow, we will invite the whole family - 5 children with their second half and 6 grandchildren. This cruise was excellent with pros and poor cons. I will begin with a few cons 1. I hated the up sale of everything from your next cruise to the tackiness of factory rejects marked at the most ridiculous retail prices to make out they are the best bargain only or room to negotiate within two days a further reduced or further discount promised. 2.I hated the fact when your special needs assistance requirements that they dont exactly match with their high standard of service. 3.Having toured on this ship in 2010 I was greatly sadden to see the tiredness of Freedom carpeting, bathroom mirror corrosion and odd odor smells. 4. The promenade just didnt glisten as she had before. The promenade lighting was very poor with obvious seen missing light bulbs. 5 I also found the evening dinning staff had less table etiquette which I believe were European origin. 6. We were given no choice of our dinning table as there was no room to put us else were other than by the stairs on deck 4 by the fast passageway of staff fury to service and dish collection point and cold air rushing by us which made our meal go cold quickly. 7 The pros of this cruise the staff overall are working hard with an extra mile attitude The entertainment is far beyond that I experienced in 2010 in the caribbean The food no matter what others have written here I highly disagree It is of high produced standard. Catering staff are the hardest working to produce such quantity and quality range. The best deck to obtain cabin would be from deck 6 to deck 9 mid ship . We went on this cruise because my mother hadn't been on holiday for over 20 years as she is disabled and finds it hard to find holidays to suit her and the ship catered for disabled people so she asked if we wanted to accompany her, we wouldn't of picked a cruise ourselves as i have never been good on boats, but we of course went to assist her so that she could enjoy a holiday. We were very surprised how amazing it was the staterooms were a decent size mind you we had deluxe balcony ocean views and the balconys were big the views were outstanding. The whole ship was beautifully decorated a bit old style but kept very clean. The food was extremely good and plenty of soft drinks and hot beverages, but you have to be careful as even though we had supposedly paid for all inclusive food and certain alcohol it appeared that we paid for quite a bit including wine in the main dining room.We should have had some sort of meeting when we arrived so that we knew which places on the ship supplied the free drink ,there are no kettles in your staterooms as it is a fire hazard so you have to go to one of the dining rooms to get your tea, you can have room service and the continental breakfast is free but in the small print you get charged a fee for the room service added to your card you carry with you every where, there are a lot of hidden charges including bottles of water. The entertainment was very good always different things to see and do day and night.Just to say don't bother taking your tuxedo suit or long dresses we were told we had to wear formal evening wear tuxedo for men and dresses for women so we bought the outfits at quite a bit of expense we wouldn't normally wear that attire but made an effort and were very annoyed to see that the men mainly just wore smart shirts with and without ties, and women wore some lovely dresses but not over the top just smarts don't worry about the formal notice. The trips were amazing but not very disabled friendly streets the worst being florence were we had to lift my mothers scooter up all the high kerbs and hardly any ramps any where it is medieval not suitable for disabled! The trips apart from that were great the staff are very helpful and overall we had great first cruise we will defiantly think of going on another ones you can see so many more places in one hit. It had been over 20 years at least since my fiancé and I each had cruised. (We were not together at the times that we last cruised, so I kinda feel that this is our first cruise as so much has changed.) But overall, the experience was a great one. There were a few minor hiccups here and there, but overall, we fell in love with cruising and are thinking about where to go to next. Embarkation was a breeze.. Barcelona is a pretty easy place to embark. There were at least 20 agents there to help. We arrived at port about about 11:45 and we on board in less than 30 minutes. Cabin review is contained elsewhere in this review, so I'll skip that. The entertainment was great. Priscilla was awesome. We had seen the play on Broadway and were amazed at the ability of the ship and performers to pull off an almost Broadway quality set and performance. Burn the Floor was good, but we agreed with fellow passengers that while the dancing was phenomenal (I can't believe some of the moves they did while there was a minor but noticeable roll from the waves), the lack of a story line made it much less engaging. The Cirque show was great, and the "Beatles" at the Cavern Club were very good. If there's one place where we can't give glowing reviews is the food, especially at the non-specialty dining places. We really disliked the Garden Café. The food was mediocre, the throngs of passengers was overwhelming and the ambiance was that of a college cafeteria. Taste and the Manhattan Room were better. As for Specialty dining, all were definitely a step up from the standard dining, but with the exception of La Cucina (which has an amazing view as well), the food was good but not amazing. Teppanyaki: food good; entertainment, very good and fun. Moderno: food okay, service okay (, annoying family to my right, not good). Cagney's: food very good, service good. We only did one shore excursion through NCL and that was in Cannes. The main reason, to ensure a good time to get a tender. The tour was okay but focused way too much on the Film Festival which was going on. I would have rather reserved a tender separately and walked around the Old Town on our own. Service was overall great. Our Steward, Ryan, was fantastic. Always with a smile on his face and that he ensured that our requests were met happily (we had to ask for a few things here and there, I don't believe that we are THOSE passengers who annoyed the hell out of our steward.) There was one mishap during the GLOW party which got me pretty perturbed, but the Cruise Director got everyone involved and solve the problem. If it weren't for that experience, the service rating would be a 5 as well. All in all, a great cruise... so much so that we put our deposits down for another adventure on NCL. I don't know where yet, but it's something that will keep us talking for a while. Read Less

Had an absolute ball on our first cruise! The entertainment on board was amazing especially Priscilla and the beetles tribute band. Lots to choose from food wise. Dining in the Manhattan restaurant was a real treat. Raul our house keeper always did a great job supplying us with extra coffee and milk! Room was 8077 balcony. Plenty of storage. Did our own tours at the ports for 1/3 of on board excursion costs. Simple enough as was booking shows and restaurants from our cabin. 4 of us travelled, one needing disability assistance. Nothing was any trouble for the porters. Getting on and off ship was very quick and efficient,I had imagined long queues but wasn't the case at all. Overall a fantastic holiday ,well worth £1,049 which included flights from belfast and an overnight stay in Barcelona PLUS fully inclusive. Will definitely be cruising with incl again. Maybe try the Caribbean?????!!!!! Read Less

I chose this cruise to celebrate a birthday. I found the staff to be very friendly and efficient. The dining room staff and the food served was excellent. The cruise directors staff were excellent although I did find it hard to understand some of them because, although they spoke in English, it was, obviously, with a foreign accent. I found the cruise director himself to be very rude and demeaning on the one occasion that I asked him a question. We never saw the Captain once during our whole 12 days at sea. On many other ships the Captain has circulated during the cruise. He may well have done so, I don't know, but we never saw him and neither did many other guests we spoke to. I believe the Captain SHOULD circulate and speak to the people who are paying his wages. We found the wardrobes in the cabin to be very small with very little space for hanging clothes. Although being in a balcony cabin we found it to be very small. We were on deck 8 where there was a very big overhang above the balcony which kept off the sun. The worst experience was upon leaving the ship, where, my wife being an invalid, RCCL only provided assistance to the baggage reclaim area and not to the waiting buses. The outside staff did not seem to know which buses were going where, and I had to find the bus for myself. When we did arrive at the airport we were dropped off about a half mile from the entrance to the departures entrance. I had two suitcases and my wife in a wheelchair. Once again there was no assistance offered whatsoever. Read Less

My husband and I chose Viking because a Viking River Cruise had shown what attention could be shown to a cruise passenger. We chose The Romantic Mediterranean Cruise because after 40 years in the Navy, my husband still had not sailed the Mediterranean Sea. Was it a good Choice? Yes!! Shall I compare it to the Rhine River Cruise? The size of the two ships was apparent, of course. The Longship Egil had two decks and top deck, the Viking Sky seemed to reach to the sky. On the back of my AAA card I made a little map with the eating places on one end and the meeting places or others places to go to in their place on the card. And my stateroom well marked so I would not get lost. The beauty of the public areas reflected the homelands of the owners in calm colors with dramatic artistic flourishes.. The stateroom layout would be familiar to anyone who had been aboard a river cruise except it was more spacious, of course. The closet was ample, with a panel of drawers on the open end of the hallway. The desk opened up to a divided and lighted make-up vanity, often appreciated by females. In my Deluxe Veranda Cabin, the seating area was ample.as was the veranda space. Much appreciated was the heated bathroom floors. Luxury, indeed. The food was equally fantastic on both river and oceangoing cruises. My husband and I enjoyed the World Cafe more than the Restaurant simply because it was more informal and more relaxed. Since it was buffet, I could take smaller portions fitting my appetite. And we enjoyed breakfast in our room when we had an early tour. If requested at 6:00-6:15, it came promptly at 6:00!! One big difference was that the ports of call were wonderful, beautiful harbors. Pulling into dock was an adventure in itself, though the river boats had the adventure of going through locks from one elevation to the next. River boat was weak on night entertainment while the Sky had excellent entertainment. We had spoof Operas with singers who were obviously up and coming stars. We had a Beatles concert under the pool roof and a Abba concert in the Theater, both very well done.Viking recruited the best to be had for the shows. Service superb on both. Cabin friendly and helpful. All waiters attentive. Best of any cruise line we have used. Shore excursions were appropriate for location, the tour leaders well versed in material and were well worth the money. The included excursions seemed very well thought out. River cruised handled those with mobility problems by having one bus with those who chose to be on it. On the Sky, the person in charge of shore excursions was not sensitive to the needs of those with mobility problems in their organization or the need for adaption when there was a change in schedule. The only problem on what otherwise was a wonderful trip. Would I go again? I would choose Viking again. I like feeling special. I like feeling like what I want matters and Viking will provide.. But I would go on another river cruise. But if you like swimming pools and nightly entertainment, then Viking Sky is for you. Read Less

Several years ago, we wanted to try a "something different" type vacation and chose to do a river cruise. We chose Viking Cruise Line and the Danube River. They "wowed" us !! Would history repeat itself if we chose the Rhine River and Viking Cruise Line ? Oh my, my, my did it ever repeat !! Recently retired and celebrating 3 decades of being married to an awesome woman, we decided to try out Viking Ocean Cruises and chose the Grand Mediterranean Tour. Folks, I will be brief. . . the Viking Sea is simply a beautiful ship, the staff are the friendliness people you will meet and their service is impeccable, the selection of food and wines are 5 star, the entertainment was superb, and the excursion guides must've received their doctorate in that country's history. Please note: When looking at booking excursions, if your excursion has an E, walking will be easy. M is for moderate. D is for demanding. Folks, D is demanding due to steep inclines, rough and long walking. Our cabin steward cleaned and refurbished our towels and toiletries twice a day ! If we needed something like extra hangars, he returned within 3 minutes with whatever we needed. Our cabin was immaculate our entire cruise. In my review's title, I wrote ". . .Exceeding Our Expectations". Whether a river cruise or an ocean cruise, if you want to get "wowed", turn to Viking Cruise Lines. Read Less

We spent two nights in Barcelona before the cruise and two nights in Rome at the end of the cruise. Both cities have so much culture and good food. The Viking reps at the hotels helped set up excursions, gave us maps, set up dinner reservations. We have always been very pleased with Viking; this was our second ocean cruise with them. The staff on the ship was wonderful; our cabins were clean and comfortable; the food was delicious, as always; the excursions were informative and fun. We did a lot of walking, which is what we like. We used the gym on the ship three times, but we used to pool only once, because we were so busy on excursions and staying in town. We didn't see any entertainment for the same reason. We are already planning a river cruise for fall 2018 and an ocean cruise for 2019. We have been on three river cruises w/ Viking. We have never had a complaint w/ Viking, it is a wonderful company. The NCL staff are great and it is hard work dealing with people who have drinks packages and a sense of entitlement. If you see the photos of the management, there are very few women. I like to spend my money with organisations that supports women (my mechanic is a woman) since we are 51% of the population. When rooms were allocated, we both got rooms with pillars in the middle so that we could only use a single bed. My mother is almost 80 and it was a miracle that she didn't bang her head and knock herself out going to the bathroom at night. I dreaded going to bed at night and never had a full nights sleep. There was nothing between the sheet and the mattress so that when I tossed at night the sheets ended up by the wall. The food was great. We dined at Windows frequently because the chaos of the buffet didn't suit my mothers poor vision. The staff there frequently had to deal with unreasonable customers demanding a window table, even when it was pitch dark outside!!! There was an abundance of fruit and the chocolate muffins had a secret ingredient making them the best I've ever tasted. I went to the show ever night and the best night was singing and dancing from the 60s and 70s. The singers in '4Ever' were big hits with the ladies and were smart to leave the ship quickly! One night was singing and dancing that was supposed to be from a variety of countries but was the closest thing to Disney's 'Its a Small World - the Musical' with even less authenticity (full of 50's racial stereotypes). Between that and the last night's drama filled marathon, it is clear that the director has very little respect for the intellectual capacity of people who take cruises. There was confusion about whether the magician was supposed to be funny. The ventriloquist was good but the 1950s wanted their jokes back. The best part of our cruise was the day trips - all the great locations. Like most of the people on the ship, we planned our own days well in advance, taking local trains and busses. I typically planned alternatives in case my mother wanted a quiet day. The most outstanding excursion was with romeoandjuliet.hr who gave us an amazing day at Plitvice Lakes in Zadar, Croatia. Most of our fellow cruisers wandered about the town in the rain. None of the trips offered by NCL compared to this offering. Our guide even had time to take us to the Sea Organ and Old Town at sunset (the best time to enjoy it). The concern for hygiene was commendable and given the thousands of people on the ship, the possibility for infection was diligently fought by the crew. It is entirely possible to spend almost nothing on the ship and during my 11 days my bill was less than $100 for wine at dinner and shuttles from the port to the town. We may do another NCL cruise in the future, because they are the cruise line that respects single cruisers most. However I wonder, when rooms were allocated on this cruise, did any couple have a room like the ones we got? Read Less
