Several years ago, we wanted to try a "something different" type vacation and chose to do a river cruise. We chose Viking Cruise Line and the Danube River. They "wowed" us !! Would history repeat itself if we chose the Rhine River and Viking Cruise Line ? Oh my, my, my did it ever repeat !! Recently retired and celebrating 3 decades of being married to an awesome woman, we decided to try out Viking Ocean Cruises and chose the Grand Mediterranean Tour. Folks, I will be brief. . . the Viking Sea is simply a beautiful ship, the staff are the friendliness people you will meet and their service is impeccable, the selection of food and wines are 5 star, the entertainment was superb, and the excursion guides must've received their doctorate in that country's history. Please note: When looking at booking excursions, if your excursion has an E, walking will be easy. M is for moderate. D is for demanding. Folks, D is demanding due to steep inclines, rough and long walking. Our cabin steward cleaned and refurbished our towels and toiletries twice a day ! If we needed something like extra hangars, he returned within 3 minutes with whatever we needed. Our cabin was immaculate our entire cruise. In my review's title, I wrote ". . .Exceeding Our Expectations". Whether a river cruise or an ocean cruise, if you want to get "wowed", turn to Viking Cruise Lines. Read Less

Tour Meditteranean : Norwegian Spirit needs to be totally refurbished! Worst food ever, I have taken over 10 cruises and have never seen additional charges for dinner entrees in the main dining room! The Spirit served two Italian entrees & both were so horrible, we sent them back. Entrees included Jamaican, Indian, Oriental and Cajun while sailing around Spain & Italy - WHY?, If your cabin was Midship or forward, you had to go two decks up to walk to the other end then down two decks to get to the main dining room which was Directly Over The Engines Causing you to shake during dinner & cause sea sickness! Disembarking in port was totally impossible if you were in a wheelchair or walker. You could pay for bottled water to take into ports, but you were not allowed to bring the same bottle back onboard. Ice was a premium commodity onboard. Read Less

This was a cruise with friends and I really enjoyed myself. The cabin was roomy and clean. All the staff were great and helpful. It caters more to Italians than North Americas and British Ship left and arrived at all ports on time. Didn't pay for any excursions as it was simple to do it yourself. Genova, bus outside 10 euros were tour and hop on and off. Rome bus to train station 2 euros and return trip to Rome 13 euros return. Open top bus in Rome 18 euros. Total 33 euros. Very easy and lots did it this way. Sicilly walked from ship into town centre easy. 15 minute's. Restaurant food was good. However the buffet Bora Bora was very busy and the good luke warm. Smoking is also permitted on one half of the casino. However it drifts to the other side and is very unpleasant to non smoker's. Would I use this cruise company again yes. Read Less

We spent two nights in Barcelona before the cruise and two nights in Rome at the end of the cruise. Both cities have so much culture and good food. The Viking reps at the hotels helped set up excursions, gave us maps, set up dinner reservations. We have always been very pleased with Viking; this was our second ocean cruise with them. The staff on the ship was wonderful; our cabins were clean and comfortable; the food was delicious, as always; the excursions were informative and fun. We did a lot of walking, which is what we like. We used the gym on the ship three times, but we used to pool only once, because we were so busy on excursions and staying in town. We didn't see any entertainment for the same reason. We are already planning a river cruise for fall 2018 and an ocean cruise for 2019. We have been on three river cruises w/ Viking. We have never had a complaint w/ Viking, it is a wonderful company. Firstly i wish to draw attention for other travellers to what happened to us: It clearly states on our invoice to pay by bank transfer, we were told initially when to do so which we did, however Costa subsequently made a deduction for the same amount of 3000 euros from the original card which we had used to make the deposit 12 months earlier, despite my saying not to use this card again. I called to point out and was told it would be refunded straight away, 2 weeks later nothing and each time i called no one seemed aware what was going on with different variations and different people each time i called. They have a free call back service to make a booking, but once you have done so they do not seem to want to know and you have to call at your own cost! Eventually 3 days before the trip we did receive most of the money back but with a shortfall of 70 euros which was due probably to a difference in exchange rate/ bank charges ( we live & so booked in Spain and the original card was a UK card) however through no fault of our own do not see why we should be out of pocket at all. I complained again and was told it would be refunded to us before the cruise, but again No! Once on board i went to speak to customer service, in my opinion and for the sake of keeping our group of 8 people happy i felt they could add this relatively small amount of money to our on board account to use on the ship, it was our own money we were simply asking for it to be given back. The attitude I was met with was one of total indifference, a fob off and go away, stop bothering us approach, yes yes it will get sorted but its Xmas so theres no one available, come back in 3 days!!! I did this and by now am seething only to be met with more of the same! No one on board, so i am told, had the managerial authority to just make a decision, i had all the bank account evidence and an email from Madrid office which agreed that it was an error BUT they STILL could not authorise to give us the missing money. I asked to speak to someone in authority and again was fobbed off with an english speaking supervisor and finally a department head but still without any authority to do anything..... NOT Even APOLOGISE! Not once did they say sorry to us! I was told they now had to wait for email authority, i said just pick up the phone! Finally on the penultimate day of our cruise they added the 70 euros to our on board account, still not an apology or gesture of goodwill, it was as if it were my fault, how many customers has this happened to, and how many people simply pay the full balance which is on the invoice they sent out 3 times, on booking, on the 25% due date and on final bal due date, never do they send an actual statement showing the DUE amount, i am sure some people forget they have paid the 50 deposit & i doubt Costa would tell you because had we not noticed the extra 3k disappearing and calling to chase it we would never have had it back! Now on to the cruise itself: The dining experience was a pretty hideous event, we had the second sitting beginning at 9.15 pm which for us it is far too late, (& the 6.15 one is too early) and took far too long, exacerbated by the fact they had just implemented a new electronic hand held device for taking orders. The result was our poor waiter was in a state of total confusion for the entire week, he told us he was supposed to have an assistant but he was always deployed elsewhere. The food came in erratic order, eg of the usual 5 courses available not all of us ordered each one, but instead of bringing all the first courses followed by second course etc he seemed to bring them randomely, this resulted in one person eating the main second course whilst someone eating desert, on one occasion one of our children got nothing even though he had ordered the same as other people. We laughed when one person got something as we tried to work out which course it was saying ooo i have got that to come next! Each course should be served together. Although a lot of effort was put into the gala Xmas eve & Xmas day menus, and it was followed on the 3rd night with an extra special menu by a celebrated chef, this meant for 3 nights in a row there was "gala" type food and was too much on consecutive evenings, the portions were too large in my opinion, i would have preferred smaller "taster" size portions of each dish to enable us to try more without over eating and judging by the amount of waste returned to the kitchen, i think others felt the same. Breakfast in the foirentina restaurant was nice if you just want an alternative to the buffet, but dont expect the hot food to be so! The pancakes i ordered were far too thick and freezing cold with little or no syrup. The Eggs benedict turned up freezing cold, as if they had never been introduced to a pan! and on our final day the hot waffles i ordered never materialised at all! The bars and entertainment were on the whole great and we loved the variety available, always somewhere to enjoy live music, our favourite was the country rock club where the band and duo were fabulous. Disabled facilities are very good, level access to all areas, mums window cabin was amply spacious for a wheelchair to turn and manoeuvre & level floor shower and spacious bathroom. Some of the disabled loos however opened the door when they should not have done so beware! On a final note i booked the holiday 12 months in advance and as we were travelling as a family with 4 cabins one of which was for a wheelchair bound person i asked for our rooms as close together as possible, especially for mine to be close to hers so i could help her when necessary. We initially had 9003 & 9131 which is half the ( huge) ship away, and the others on another deck, despite emailing each month to ask for closer cabins i was always told that there had been no more cabins released yet, finally in October to be told the ship was almost full!! How had that happened when there had not been cabins released - ridiculous, how far in advance must one book in order to get what you want! In the end by coincidence i called once when a closer cabin was located so i ended up with a cabin around a quarter of the ships length from my mother, i still had to trip along the corridor each morning to let in her breakfast server but that was not so bad, but it would have been nice to have been next door. Disembarkation was good, they allowed mum to keep the room a little longer and there was no rush to disembark for us all. On the whole we enjoyed the cruise, but next time I will try another company! The NCL staff are great and it is hard work dealing with people who have drinks packages and a sense of entitlement. If you see the photos of the management, there are very few women. I like to spend my money with organisations that supports women (my mechanic is a woman) since we are 51% of the population. When rooms were allocated, we both got rooms with pillars in the middle so that we could only use a single bed. My mother is almost 80 and it was a miracle that she didn't bang her head and knock herself out going to the bathroom at night. I dreaded going to bed at night and never had a full nights sleep. There was nothing between the sheet and the mattress so that when I tossed at night the sheets ended up by the wall. The food was great. We dined at Windows frequently because the chaos of the buffet didn't suit my mothers poor vision. The staff there frequently had to deal with unreasonable customers demanding a window table, even when it was pitch dark outside!!! There was an abundance of fruit and the chocolate muffins had a secret ingredient making them the best I've ever tasted. I went to the show ever night and the best night was singing and dancing from the 60s and 70s. The singers in '4Ever' were big hits with the ladies and were smart to leave the ship quickly! One night was singing and dancing that was supposed to be from a variety of countries but was the closest thing to Disney's 'Its a Small World - the Musical' with even less authenticity (full of 50's racial stereotypes). Between that and the last night's drama filled marathon, it is clear that the director has very little respect for the intellectual capacity of people who take cruises. There was confusion about whether the magician was supposed to be funny. The ventriloquist was good but the 1950s wanted their jokes back. The best part of our cruise was the day trips - all the great locations. Like most of the people on the ship, we planned our own days well in advance, taking local trains and busses. I typically planned alternatives in case my mother wanted a quiet day. The most outstanding excursion was with romeoandjuliet.hr who gave us an amazing day at Plitvice Lakes in Zadar, Croatia. Most of our fellow cruisers wandered about the town in the rain. None of the trips offered by NCL compared to this offering. Our guide even had time to take us to the Sea Organ and Old Town at sunset (the best time to enjoy it). The concern for hygiene was commendable and given the thousands of people on the ship, the possibility for infection was diligently fought by the crew. It is entirely possible to spend almost nothing on the ship and during my 11 days my bill was less than $100 for wine at dinner and shuttles from the port to the town. We may do another NCL cruise in the future, because they are the cruise line that respects single cruisers most. However I wonder, when rooms were allocated on this cruise, did any couple have a room like the ones we got? Read Less

I went on Silversea's Silver Wind for only the 2nd time in November 2016. The first time was 20 years ago during her Inaugural season. Considering she is nigh on 20 years old the state of her upkeep was fantastic. My suite was of course in the style of 20 years ago, Spotless and kept so by a very keen maid aided by a butler.A large walk in wardrobe with lots of coat hangers and a easily accessed safe. A lovely comfortable bed and pillows. Alas the bathroom was a disaster without a walk in shower and being disabled it was a nightmare to have to climb in over a highsided bath to have a shower. There are apparently only 2 disabled suites on this ship .Yes there were plenty of handholds once you got in. But for anyone with limited ability to climb into a bath then avoid this ship. There is only one bank of lifts( elevators)at midships so if your suite is near the forward part then there is a long walk to get to another deck. The cruise was a designated bridge cruise and with a competition and a weeks cruise as 1st prize there were 40 avid determined people on board and the rest of us suffered accordingly as some expected activities never materialised. Now for the praise! The food, service, staff could not be surpassed. Nothing was too much trouble and I was met with the greatest of help and kindness. I will travel Silversea again but not this ship There were 3 lecturers on board, 2 were dreadful and one was brilliant Read Less

This was my first NCL cruise and not sure of what to expect. The ship was very dated and is going in for a refurb in March so that is a good thing because I am booked on it again in September 2017. Embarkation was good, Disembarkation a nightmare. Ship size for me is perfect. I am more comfortable on a smaller ship. Staff: Cabin attendants very pleasant. Bar staff were very rude and disinterested in helping you. I'm used to happy engaqing staff and they were just plain miserable. Grand Pacific Dining Room staff were a bit more pleasant. As far as the food was concerned it was maybe average. Nothing exciting. When I cruise I am always excited to see what they have on the menu. In the Jade's case, it was a matter of should we go to the buffet or see if there is anything worthwhile on the Grand Pacific Menu. The second week seemed to improve a bit and more enjoyable choices. The Buffet crew were always pleasant and helpful. The food was good with lots of choices for breakfast and lunch. I think we only ate dinner there once. Topsiders grill had great burgers and the Great Outdoors had a mini-buffet which was pretty good. Cagney's was a disappointment. We shared a 32 oz. Porterhouse and asked for medium rare. Got close to well done. The Moderno was extremely disappointing. The gauchos rarely came around and the choices were minimal. Salad bar was extremely minimal as well. The only good thing was the lamb and their specialty steak. Not worth the extra money. Maybe I am used to better quality Brazilian steak houses or maybe because it was the last night of the cruise and they just weren't interested. We thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment although the seats in the Stardust Theatre uncomfortable. They seemed to slant forward. I can't say it was a terrible cruise. Just disappointing. Communication with passengers seems to be the most difficult issue. I went on this cruise to find out how they deal with "accessibility" passengers and there were horror stories about how some passengers were treated. This was very sad. I didn't personally encounter an issue even though I had a cane but speaking with other passengers about their issues was disarming. If the Jade has a decent refurbishing and improvement in quality of cuisine it will be a wonderful ship. It's just the right size. And if they do some customer service training with bar staff that would be a vast improvement. At this point I am booked on 2 other NCL cruises. Getaway and the Jade again. I'm happy to try this cruise line again and hopefully the issues above will be much better. Read Less

The best aspects of this cruise was the warm weather for November and the Solo Program that Norwegian offers for cruisers travelling alone. Departing from Barcelona with stops in Tenerife, San Juan, and Orlando pretty much guarantees the best weather possible when returning to the United States from Europe in November. Each and every day of the cruise guests could enjoy the pool deck and the warm sunny weather. Also, though travelling alone on a two week cruise, there was not one night that a group was not available to go to dinners, shows, or clubs with. This is because of the evening gatherings in the Solo Lounge where individuals signed up to participate in activities, if they want, with other solo travelers. The ship, cabins, service, and dining were all standard fare, though Norwegian does seem to be cutting back on variety in the buffet. And for a Transatlantic with few stops I thought the entertainment was very good. Read Less

I chose this cruise because Equinox has always been my favorite Solstice class ship and I knew this would be its last European voyage. The service on this cruise was excellent as is the norm for Celebrity. The food served in the main dining room (table 218) was superb and my waitress Julia would be hard to equal. The food in the oceanview cafe was unbelievably diverse offering many choices of every type of food imaginable and tons of dessert choices as well. People who like food were more than satisfied on this cruise. The cruise director, Alessandro, is extraordinary. He is a naturally funny comedian who kept the passengers in stitches all day every day. He was always visible, taking part in many activities and lending his enthiasm to all participants, increasing everyone's desire to be a part of the action. He really stirs things up. The entertainment offered on this cruise was excellent to average in my opinion. Some nights were extraordinary and others less so. All in all, however, there was more entertainment on this cruise than any other cruise I have taken. Read Less

We have never posted a review on cruise critic before. We are not sure if we are just not so much in awe of this class ship as we previously were on the Oasis and the Allure but we felt this ship did not compare. We were happy with our Ocean balcony cabin but our cabin steward was mediocre. The dining room food was decent but again, mediocre. The Windjammer had better food than the dining room. We feel that there seems to be a decrease in the quality of the dining room food probably due to the speciality restaurants. Also, the dining room food service was slow and the food always just room temperature. The worst part was disembarking which was a nightmare. My husband was in a wheelchair and they lost a piece of our luggage and we found it ourselves & the tags were intact and it was with a group of odds and ends of luggage. It took us one hour to locate it. Then no one knew where we could get the rental car shuttle and the porter took us to the taxi stand. We are sailing for the third time on the Oasis and had we not already booked this, we may have cancelled. There is certainly a lot to do on the ship and probably great for most cruisers but being diamond plus left us with a lot to be desired. Read Less

Overall, trip was well described as to ports and time tables were perfect at each stop. Weather was not an issue. Distance from ship to transportation was an issue for those with limited mobility. Rome was easy to get to but you better know the train time tables for leaving. As for weekends, trains don't run as often back to the ship. Felt more time was needed to see Rome and Venice. Those are major stops from all cruise ships so don't think they can extend dock time in those areas. It would be great, if they did. Eating at the late dining was necessary, as our tours ended close to the ship leaving port and rushing back to early dining was not an option. Many went for the "anytime dining" but some evenings we saw a line waiting for a table. So we stayed with the 8:30 pm seating. Read Less

I have been on 4 other cruises with all but one being on RCCL. I normally don't do reviews for my trips that due to all the negativity about the ship I thought it be necessary to give what I feel is a fair and realistic review of the ship and my experience. I have not cruise for over 10 years so my experiences and interpretations of various things maynot be accurate. Please understand that my review is from the perspective of a traveler who has normal expectations or a vacation. This review will be from the point of view of an every day individual who may only have been on a few cruises and it's not a lifetime cruiser. In regards to services area are I observations. In regards to General service and expectations for a cruise ship I found that the crew themselves seem to be friendly and more than happy to fulfill any needs that you have. But if you expect someone to come up every five minutes and offer you a drink or something that isn't going to happen and I believe is too much to expect on a ship of this size. The crew also seem to be generally happy and willing to help as compared to my previous three cruises with Royal Caribbean. I will agree that the quality of the food service is not as impressive as when I originally started cursing. This may be from simply that I am getting used to their food and it no longer got the wow factor.don't interpret that as saying that their food is horrible or is not enjoyable. I do have a couple of things I'd like to bring to attention those who may be disabled in regards to the ship. One exiting the gangway to go we sure can be difficult with the scooter as there is a gap between the gangway plank and the entry to the ship going to and from the shop I wish they could do something about that. The second thing is that if you are in a wheelchair or scooter you will have to wait longer for the elevator I will also very is that the variety a free beverages has changed. It is hey surprised that soda tea and most coffees were not provided free of charge as I've experienced in my past cruises. By no means is did it have a dramatic impact on my vacation. I did attend to specialty restaurants 154 Central Park and Wonderland. 154 Central Park was a more enjoyable experience only because it's food choices peeled on my palate. Wonderland on the other hand is a great experience though in regards to food choices it is more geared to those who like seafood . In regards to the cabin set up let me tell you that I am disabled so this review is it in respect to the handicapped accessible room which is significantly bigger than your traditional cabin cabin. I was very impressed with the way out of the room and the amount of space it allowed me especially in the bathroom which had a nice roll in shower. The betting was comfortable are cabin attendant did an excellent job. And that my expectations. The only negative I have about my cabinet is the fact that the entry door did not have a pushbutton entry on it which would be helpful for those in a wheelchair and scooter. Also as I traveled the hallways with the state rooms were at the metal separators between parts of the ship did become a bit of a hazard and more difficult to manuver and got in the way. I will have to say that harmony of the seas is not my first choice of ship only because I am an individual who doesn't like crowds but in regards to the level of traffic it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I don't know if this is because it was in the fall and instead of in the summertime when it will be more crowded and have more kids. I will see if you're in a wheelchair or scooter you will have to wait longer for a available elevator because of so many people on the ship it is difficult to get an elevator that has enough room for you to use your wheelchair and scooter. At times my friends and I had to wait as much as 10 minutes for an elevator. It would be great if royal Caribbean would designate couple of elevators for the elderly and those with disabilities and make them only Accessible by use of your seat see pass card. Read Less

On board I discovered the cabin next to us paid $700 less than we did (they booked around a year or so ago). When I told friends we met on board, I discovered they paid $800 less than us. They booked around 2 or 3 months prior to sailing. Both, like us, were on 3 b-to-backs and this was the transatlantic crossing portion. We were ending 15 mths of travel worldwide. We booked a while ago, but did not always have internet availability. After 33 cruises, I'm well aware of cruise price fluctuation and it being the responsibility of the travelers to check constantly for price fluctuations. It just wasn't always possible when on the go, although I did email vtg a couple of times as I had a feeling my price was high. Very disappointed in the fare difference We were involved in a car accident as passengers (in Spain) the day before we boarded. I judge the ship from the perspective of someone with limited mobility. Elevators slow. No big crow's nest-type place to relax indoors. No toilets on deck 11. Had to make my way down one deck Lido deck (Marketplace) was inconvenient for me, Muffins at the back of the ship, croissants in the fwd section); grapefruit & prunes at back, other items fwd etc. Too much walking, crew helped, but would have liked to get it myself. Crew were attentive when I needed help (quite often) and the first 2 cruises were perfect for recovery (port intensive, so we had the ship to ourselves almost every day.) Doctor on board was always busy. (Availed myself of their xrays and he replaced my cast with another. Kept me supplied with drugs until I was able to fill a prescription). Perfect to know he was on board if I needed him and I did not feel the charges were excessive (the way most excursions are for instance) We're used to Celebrity food so we kept our expectations low since we were sailing Carnival. Food far exceeded our low expectations (still prefer Celebrity's food though) Plush comfortable deck chairs were SO appreciated! All in all, quite a different cruise experience (had to cancel all excursion plans due to our disability). We had a wonderful time and I can still say "we've never been on a cruise we didn't absolutely love"! Read Less

We chose this cruise for the ports. We flew into Barcelona on Sunday before the Tuesday cruise. We loved the Hilton, and had a great time viewing the sites. I had requested wheelchair access transportation, which was prompt and available at the airport. There was a delay getting to the ship, due to traffic. Our room was lovely, spacious and room for wheelchair turn around. there were 2 problems. Our adult daughter slept on the hide a bed, which had an uncomfortable bar in the middle. She put her mattress on the floor to sleep. Staff saw this and brought a second matress, which helped some. However, the sofa bed is just not comfortable. I had difficulties with the height of the bed. it is too high for a direct wheelchair transfer. Luckily my husband can help me, but this could be a problem for someone who has to transfer directly from chair to bed. The overall appearance of the ship is great. Lovely decor, everything is spotless. The service in the dining venues is prompt and friendly. The Asian restaurant did not seem to have enough staff the night we ate there. We did not participate in the ships shore excursions, since they were not accessible for a wheelchair user. We also did not go to the entertainment, as we were usually tired after a day of touring. We really appreciated the crew's assistance in helping me on and off of the ship, especially when the ramps were steep of stairs. The only real complaint was that the request for accessible transportation was not carried forward to leaving the ship to go to the hotel. This was a bit of an ordeal, but the staff did find a cab that worked for us. We had to pay for the cab, after we had paid for the transfers as part of the hotel price. Read Less

Chose this cruise cuz it fit a block of time between already booked flights and it was rt barcelona and had a good itinerary and was new and bigger than other carnival ships. Boarding process was a nightmare and the food esp breakfast in the dining was often inedible. im talking poorly made omelettes and rancid bacon on 2 occasions!! eve meals hit and miss--only got enough to eat if you ordered 2 or 3 of every course and were lucky if you liked one or 2. red meat and melons tended to be best options.the waiters tried their best but kitchen staff definitely lacking as was the quality of some of the ingredients. shore excursions ok but cant say i really enjoyed ay of them. Avoid dine as you wish as their check-in system was diabolical. Really glad i was able to get assigned to a mixed group table for 10 at the late seating. spa was nicer than most but the people were loud and inconsiderate so not very relaxing. Music options and room stewards were great as were guest services if you didn't mind standing in line for ever to see them. you must bring debit card to change money at atm as they dont handle cash at the desk. Might possible try vista again for carrib cruise but not for europe. just glad i met some nice people on my own as no planned singles lunches or breakfasts. Read Less

Very well organized. both boarding and landing as well as during the stay, ( and I had a transfer between the airport and the ship) Very friendly cabin staff and efficient as well as the Solarium Bistro at where my mother 87 years rather take most meals to have a very warm atmosphere and all the staff was very friendly. The boat has several shows of entertainment and areas that meet the expectations both of the youngest and the areas where older people feel good also. I will strong recommend a cruise, at this ship to my friends who like to cruise every year because this is a new boat that i found very comfortable. I would like to repeat the experience of making a new cruise on this boat. It would be nice to cruise to another destination but with the same quality. In short an experience to repeat without question. Read Less

This was our third Disney Cruise. Had it not been for poor experiences on shore excursions I would have given it an excellent rating. This ship, the Disney port staff and ship staff were excellent. In our opinion Disney Cruise Lines is top notch and worth the price. Our dining room servers, Jimson and Gerry were GREAT!!!. The food was excellent. The stateroom was well maintained by our Host, Kenneth and the staff keeps the ship extremely clean the entire trip. The only bad experience on board was around the adult pool. DCL posts everywhere and announces that saving of seats in the theater and around the pools prohibited. However, on more than one occasion we could not get a lounge chair at the adult pool because people were leaving personal items on the loungers for more than 30 minutes and no one was enforcing the rules and removing their items. Very disappointed at this as everything else seems to be well controlled. Our experiences with the shore excursions was less than favorable. Our first excursion was Naples/Sorrento/Pompeii. Didn't really get any time in Naples. Had an hour and half to wander around Sorrento and catch some lunch and take pictures. To us this was plenty of time in Sorrento. We had a very nice lunch, did some shopping and got some nice pictures. It was then on to Pompeii. Pompeii was very interesting, but our tour guide, Karim, was hard to understand, moved and talked very quickly and the crowds made it very difficult to enjoy this interesting location. In Pompeii there was no time to take pictures or do any souvenir shopping. It was go, go, go. On the drive from Sorrento to Pompeii our guide spent all of his time on what appeared to be a personal phone call rather than pointing out potential interesting sites along the way or sharing any additional historical information with us. Our second shore excursion was a walking tour of Vatican City/Sistine Chapel/Coliseum in Rome. Unfortunately we did this tour two days after the Canonization of Saint Theresa, so there were a lot of tourists in town still. Again, the sites were interesting to see, but the guide was hard to understand, you had to take pictures while you were trying to keep walking, hear the guide and make your way through the crowds. The dress code and picture taking rules at the Sistine Chapel are very strict and adhered to which I can appreciate and respect. Out of 10 hour day of touring we had about 90 minutes to take pictures, eat lunch and look for souvenirs. This was only at Vatican City. No time at the Coliseum for anything other than walking around. As an additional note, the guide coordinator, Paolo, was rude and discourteous. He embarrassed my husband and I in front of the other passengers on the bus and talked condescendingly to many people on the tour. I realize there is a different culture and we need to respect that, but his treatment of us was UNACCEPTABLE! The female guide was very knowledgeable, but again hard to understand and talked very fast. It is very obvious that DCL has high expectations of their staff and hold them accountable if they do not meet the expectations. I know they probably don't have a lot of control over the staff on the port tours, but they do when it comes time to contracting with a company who provides the tours. DCL needs to make sure they let the companies they are contracting with what their expectations are. I would like to think DCL would have considered reprimanding Paolo on this tour and Karim on the Pompeii tour if they were employees of theirs. Next came Florence and Pisa. Florence was great! Our guide, Irene, was the best yet on the trip. She was fun and informative. We had 3 hours to tour Florence on our own. Was able to eat a great lunch, take time shopping and get some great pictures. Was not impressed with Pisa. Would have rather spent all day in Florence, but didn't know this until we experienced it. Our last port on the cruise was Villafranche/Monaco/Monte Carlo. We did a half day tour which part was walking and a one our little train ride. Our guide at this port was very nice and did a good job. We had 30 minutes on our own in Monte Carlo at the harbor. Because we returned to the port at 1:00 p.m. that day we could have toured Villefranche on our own, but we were so exhausted from running so hard and fast at the three previous ports we choose to go back to the ship and relax. I think this half day tour is also offered in the afternoon. I would recommend taking the afternoon tour as shops and things did not open until late morning in this port. If you take this cruise and plan to spend some time in Barcelona before or after the cruise I highly recommend booking a full day tour on your own with Barcelona Day Tours. They max their tour groups at 12 people and the price was great. Better than the price offered by DCL for this tour. This was the best land tour we had our entire trip. Barcelona is a great city with super friendly people. Would do Barcelona again, but none of the other ports. Yes, we will sail with Disney again as the ships, their staff, the service and the overall quality of the product is outstanding. However, we will take a much harder look at doing any port excursions they offer in the future. Feel we could have made better use of our time doing the ports on our own for the most part on this cruise. Read Less

This was our best cruise ever. We almost cry when we disembark. The ship was new. Food was excellent (went with Costa and MSC before so I can compare the standards). Staff super friendly. Cabins were wonderful. There were no lines at the buffet. The breakfast was so rich and there was free sunday, pizza, coffee and home-made ice-cream until late hours. My daughter loved the entertainment on the ship (she is 10 years old). Waterslides, bingo, night shows, movies on the top floor with free popcorn, free movies to pick on the cabin TV, free room service (we ordered breakfast every morning in our cabin) etc. The embarkation was smooth and the same was with disembarkation. The most important was that you felt that there was no-one on the ship but you. Not overcrawded like MSC and Costa. If you are planning to cruise the Vista is exceptional. I highly recommend. Can't wait for their new ship (Horizon). Read Less

Moreover was the staff was on top of their game! They were happy and the job they did was above and beyond the rest. This was our 16th cruise with Royal Caribbean and we enjoyed the cruise so much. One thing to remember is if the staff are happy, the customers will be happy and it showed! The ports were all excellent stops to include the stop in Turkey. At first we thought we would not have gotten off the ship due to all the issues currently in country but we found it to be safe and very informative. If you have not cruised the Mediterranean yet it is a must! After spending so much time in the Caribbean we could not get over the smoothness of the cruise. The Captain apologized for the "rough" seas leaving out of Malta with waves of 2-3 feet high. I will take that any day in the Caribbean! For Diamond Members and above, we have met the most wonderful and caring concierge in our all cruises at Diamond members. Rafael is by definition "customer service". Royal Caribbean should be seeking him out for tips on how to be a efficient concierge. We cannot say enough how he made us feel like we are Royal! More cruises to come, lets see if Harmony, Radiance and Serenade can match up! Read Less

We chose this cruise company as it was recommended by our local Travel Agent as being disabled friendly, we have 2 disabled children, one physically, one Autistic, so this seemed ideal solution. Never been on a cruise ship before so we thought it may be a little noisy and crowded but there were plenty of quiet spots for us and the children, loads to see and do on board as well as the trips ashore. We chose short trips ashore which were great tasters for parts of Italy, and this was ideal for us.We visited Pisa and Pompeii on 2 separate days, these were excellent and well organised although our daughter couldn't get round most of Pompeii as too steep and uneven ground but found a lovely outside cafe in the market square. All the staff on Harmony are so friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble, from our Room Manager, Diana, to the waiting staff in the restaurants and the chefs in the Windjammer (especially Steve !) they do Royal Caribbean and the guests PROUD !! We were made to feel like VIP's during our week long stay. The facilities are fantastic, great for wheelchair users, although our cabin door was not wide enough to get the wheelchair through unless it was folded but it was not a huge problem. We got cabins with adjoining balconies and connecting door in case of any problems. Atmosphere is brilliant throughout the ship, we all felt safe enough to go and explore alone or together, plenty of shows/music at night. Service was top class throughout, only hiccup was our room service breakfast order for early morning trip was not picked up but when we phoned they rushed it through for us, BRILLIANT! Will definately go again! Read Less

This was a first time cruise that I was persuaded to go on by my nephew. I went with my sister and her family and my 82 year old Mum who needed to use a wheelchair. Boarding process was easy having filled in all paperwork online pre cruise including photo for Sea Pass. Once on board went straight to our Stateroom and our luggage was already there. The only downside was the compulsory attendance at the safety at sea talk shortly after arrival when we had to make our way unassisted to the designated area when we knew absolutely nothing of how to get there and the lifts were busy opening and closing in bank of 8 lifts which set off before I could get to them with the wheelchair - that bit was stressful. After overcoming that and getting used to finding my way round with the wheelchair by day 1 I liked it, by day 2 was really enjoying it and from day 3 loved it to days 5 6 and 7 when I felt that I needed to stay for longer it was so fabulous. Getting off ship was easy via the ramp each time and assistance was provided by crew with the wheelchair. Mum came off ship with me in Marseilles and Naples and I went on my own at La Spezia for a couple of hours but we really loved the ship so much we wanted to stay on board lots..... It was not crowded apart from the one day when we were cruising all day, then the pool area was busy but that was to be expected. The entertainment was awesome especially the Fineline diving and aquatic show (went twice) and the ships own musical comedy Columbus superb. Grease show was just like West End performance. Mum preferred casual dining so we only went to the main Dining Room once and that was on a casual day. (There were 2 formal nights if you wanted to dress up). We found the Windjammer Restaurant to be superb. The staff were so kind and courteous, the views amazing and the food choice brilliant and cleanliness was top notch. I also loved the fact that Room Service was complimentary for most of the day as I had been surprised not to have tea and coffee making facilities in the room but for a short wait you just rang your order through and hey presto it was delivered. I cannot rate it too highly I am now a firmly committed member of the I love to Cruise Club and will be saving to go again with Royal Caribbean. Also loved the fact that our room was serviced twice a day and we had clean towels each time. Read Less

Very nice cruiseship, a little on the small side, but nice. Cabin (9 floor) with veranda was also nice, welcoming champagne (and yes it was champagne, not sparkling wine). 3 excursions was included in the price. Lots of speciality restaurants you can book in advance, great cooking in all of them. Service was great, but coffee wasn't. Only place to get coffee was the barista cafe...everywhere else its was just like tea or something worse. Pools on the small side, same with gym. But all in all we did enjoy the cruise very much and would defiantly go again. All staff onboard do there utmost to make you feel welcome and excursions went very smooth, much better than other cruises we have been on. Waiting was at an all time low and everything was very well organized. You can get great deals on wine packets, we didn't have one, but everyone had free sofdrinks and water everywhere, so the only thing extra was wine and spirits. Read Less

We had never travelled on Oceania but our travel agent recommended this cruise as we were going with our parents who are older people and need help in many ways. She said the service was great and the food was excellent and the itinerary was also interesting for all our age ranges (from 10 to 82). Since we embarked the cruise we felt a personal service, we went to have lunch at the buffet and the waiters were ready at any moment to help my parents carry their plates or ask them if they needed something else. Before the drill someone from the crew came to my parents cabin and told them he was in charge of taking them to the drill station, help them put on their life jackets etc.. very nice of Oceania to do that. The cabins are very spacious and the shower is great. The cabin attendants great and the laundry area in each floor very useful. The food is simply fabulous either at the buffet or at any of the dinning rooms. You have many options to choose from. What I really liked is only the staff serves you the food from the buffet, you are not allowed to serve yourself which is good because you reduce the risk of transmitting viruses. We loved the ports, and the excursions were great. The Destinations crew was very professional and open. We were lucky that is was not too hot. The pool area is also very nice and the afternoon tea was great. My mom hurried us every day from the excursions so she could arrive in time for tea. Read Less

The ship was old. We had a room in the 3rd desk, in the room 3596 and we could not sleep at night because of the noise from the propellers, Also the air conditioner wasn´t working. They went twice to the room to try to fix it, and finally they had to turn it off because it was making a terrible noise. So we were like in a 2 star hotel. They offer a credit certificate for next cruise, but did not accomplish what they offered neither in the amount and the date of expiration. I had to call 3 times and wait on line a long time, and they still do not send me the certificate with the conditions of the one they gave me aboard. I do not like when people offer something and do not accomplish, so I decided I am not going to cruise RC again Also the coach was visible very dirty when we arrived, I had to ask them to clean it, and they took 2 days to do it Read Less
