We chose this cruise purely for the reason it departed from Barcelona at the time we wished to travel. This ship was not ready to launch. Our trip was truncated as we had our passports stolen in Barcelona and as a result, we had to disembark in Athens because we could not travel further with temporary passports. On an inaugural cruise, one must expect irregularities but this cruise was an exception - in the negative. A) Workmen were regularly encountered all over the ship trying to repair malfunctioning equipment, including the elevators, electrical issues in the hallways, etc. The outdoor speakers did not work for movies....AC could not be used for the gym...etc.etc. The casino seemed to work perfectly though... B). The entertainment was subpar. That is not to say that what we did get wasn’t excellent, but there just wasn’t enough of it. After a wonderful opening performance by Mo5aic we were treated to two evenings of movies in the main theatre....really? That was the evening show offering? To be honest, there just wasn’t enough to do on board throughout the day, especially considering that the adventure deck had such limited hours. C) Staff training. At the start of the cruise the Captain announced that we were in for an extraordinary experience as the crew was all hand picked from other ships. Conversations with crew members and our own experience quickly punched huge liar holes in that claim. It was obvious that many crew members were brand new and had no idea about how to perform their jobs. Nobody likes to be lied to. It was gratifying to see that cafeteria supervisors gradually got a grip on staff and service improved over the five days. For a ship designed for the Asian market, there were a few major design misses. I think that the biggest miss was in the lack of a games room. Every ship I have travelled on has had a big mahjong playing component and have had a place to play. This wasn’t so on Spectrum as the cafeteria was walled off much of the time. The library was tiny and poorly equipped with books, lined with locked cabinets containing inaccessible board games - but no place to play. As well, it was open to the theatre area adjoining the library, so no quiet space. The gym space was totally inadequate from a Western perspective. There was a small space forward on Deck 13 with machines placed too closely together and the space was not adequately cooled. This ship was a curiosity to me. I thought it was beautiful and the cabin spaces were some of the best I have encountered. The recreational facilities were wonderful - except for the very limited access. I am curious to find out how other people experienced this ship. Read Less

We boarded in Barcelona great city. Embarkation easy. We liked the ports this cruise offered and being a new ship were so excited to sail on her, We were on the Majestic Princess for 35 nights Barcelona to Singapore for our trip of a lifetime. The ship herself is beautiful and new but not a ship for entertaining her travellers. The Piazza was always busy for line dancing and ballroom lessons it seemed, day and night, when the entertainment of Evolution was on board it was a breath of fresh air to be able to enjoy the music and dance but after Dubai the new band was terrible, very poor entertainment for a princess ship. Heddon Band great and Arny G great for relaxing with a drink in the evening. Grill Bar was the only place to be entertained but had to dance on carpet or in the passage. Cruise Director Dan organised nothing much for the pleasure of passengers, Paper Plane making, Juggling lessons, not for me. Bingo on sea days was good but costly for 4 games. We were bored most sea days as was many other passengers, it was very hot to sit by the very small pool area for too long. Food was good in Market Place but fruit terrible and not fresh. MDR food was good. Harmony Restaurant fair. Grill Bar Restaurant great. Chef's Table excellent. Vines Bar is great but only opened at night and does not serve sushi as on other Princess ships. Vista Lounge a crazy setup with the gaming setup. Karaoke Area never used so Lawn Bowls played in the passage of Karaoke Area. No great discounted sale days, the high end shops always empty. Most Staff were very pleasant and some outstanding but some really didn't want to be there it seemed and were not interested in more than getting through each day. Disembarkation was easy and Singapore a lovely city. Having met some great people on this cruise made it enjoyable but it lacked a great deal of Entertainment and the new layout for the Chinese market is certainly not to our liking. We missed Crooners Bar, Explorers Lounge, Wheelhouse Bar, Larger Pools, Wakeview Pool area. PublicToilets never working and never clean. Public areas often not clean. We love Princess but will not sail on the Majestic again, and hope Princess do not stay with the concept of this ships layout. Read Less

The Majestic Princess was beautiful. It was so shiny and new and smelled like a new car. We loved the décor and the newness of the ship. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. There were plenty of elevators and the staff was wonderful. The cruise was quieter that most that I have been on perhaps because there was such a mix of people. Many Chinese and many Australians. There was very little sales push for the stores on board which was a pleasant change. The food in the main dining room was better than ever. The food in the buffet was very good, too. The Chinese Restaurant on board was not to American tastes. It was truly a Chinese Restaurant. Alfredo's was great and being free is always a benefit. This is not a cruise ship that young people would necessarily enjoy as there were few young people on board and not many activities that they would have been crazy about. The entertainment was not good. The strobe lights were shocking and the entertainers not good - except for the three tenors. The excursions were awful. Don't bother. The ports are small and easy to walk around. The itinerary was the reason that we took this ship and it proved to be a bit overwhelming. So many ports in so many days. Read Less

Paid extra for Club Class but nothing Princess advertised for Club class came to fruition, except for a mini bottle of red and white wine delivered to our room on embarkation. Bad/little entertainment, night after night. Public toilets were disgusting, blocked, dirty and no hand cleaner. Some areas of the ship smelt like sewer. Market place plates never cleaned properly. Shore excursions were a hit or miss. Some tours were not as explained on the brochure. Ship designed for Asian market we were told all the time and it seemed the reason for every problem including the lack of cleanliness and unhappy/cranky staff.Asked the same question to 5 staff members and got told 5 different answers. Actually some staff didn't even have an answer. Only the Chinese restaurant was enclosed, all other speciality restaurants were in public areas. Décor was new and flashy but, not easy on the eye. There was one person for internet, so be prepared to wait up to 2 hours for any problems to be resolved. Our mini suite was cosy but the balcony was so tiny, not sure dusting was apart of the cleaning resume for our steward. It was never done. Only twice he forgot to clean our cabin. It seemed as if the ship didn't flow right. There is no deck you can actually walk right around. Our dining experience was the only good thing about the trip. Food was always hot and well presented. The smoking area on the top deck has no shelter what so ever. Read Less

This is the best cruise journey I have ever been to. It was 10 days and there were no rough waters. So if you have seasickness, this is the best option for you!!! There are a lot of options to eat from the buffets to the pubs. The beds are really comfortable and I highly recommend the Balcony beds. But if you have some money in your pockets, try the Suites. The first time, I tried the suites and it was one of the best days of my life!!! Try all of the features on board. Last time, we took our 2 daughters and we didn't need to look after them much. Thus, they were very happy. The Ho Chi Minh City was my favourite since the war museums were quite interesting and were close to the ports. I also recommend going to the wet markets in Thailand. That is close to the harbour too. The staffs were kind and we would like to go back again. Read Less

It was a new ship and it was a means of getting to Sinapore with out along flight. Faults, Standard of food improved when travel agents arrived. The slots or poker machines where used as a cash cow as the progressive jackpots were zeroed in the middle of my cruise. The cost of bottled wine and beer was excessive another company cash cow, when bottled wine is more than three times the Australian retail price it is a rip off It was a very nice ship with a very good crew apart from the aggressive Irish Pursar. The high speed internet failed after about three days and reverted to the normal email only as there was only one high speed connection for the whole ship. Port information is limited to the companies shore excursions and the ships library is a job lot of books with no organisation and nobody to control them. Conclusion, Only cruise on this ship if the price is right and there will be a lot of good deals when it starts to cruise from Sydney Australia. Bring your own Vegemite. Read Less

i-pad check-in? Waited 2 hours at the terminal in Barcelona. Water offered may be nice! More broadband than all cruise ship added together? Internet barely works. Satellite TV? Can't get any basic news for 5 out of 16 days. Staff- They are all very good. Tries hard and sincere. That includes all dining rooms, pool bars, activities etc... Guest service area- VERY POOR. Minimal line ups of half an hour or more any time of the day for the whole journey of 17 days with the exception between 1:00 a.m.-5:00 a.m.. Expect 4 representatives to serve 4500 guests? Caused frustration for everyone. It took me 3 days 6 tries to get a photo copy of the passport for my wife. Not to mention the time spent on line ups. Room-Excellent. Spacious and well designed. Attendant was excellent. Dynamic dining- Personally, I like it. I works for a longer cruise. Never have any issue. Offers a different setting and atmosphere if one chooses. However, I can imagine the bottle neck effect and frustration on a short cruise like 6 nights. Food- Quality of beef was consistently excellent anywhere we went. At the same time fish was of very inferior quality everywhere we've been to. The saucier on board makes inferior standard soups, generally with chicken or beef base with hardly anything in it. Crab cake at American Icon use surimi ( crab flavored fish product ) but no crab. Should just call it crab flavored cake. However, it was very generous to offer quality east coast lobster tail everyday in Grande and Divinely decadent. Good as appetizer but not for main course. Jamie's Italian was not worth what they charge either lunch or dinner. Entertainment- All excellent. At the ports of call- No representative to be seen to give information and direction. No information sheet available neither but one. All in all, it was an enjoyable trip. All comments meant to be for FYI & benefit to both RC and CC members. Read Less
