What a disappointment Viking proved to be. On a cruise from Bangkok to Bali and beyond thank goodness I got off in Bali and not beyond. The plus was the food was quite good. The penthouse veranda does not live up to its name and lacked even sliding glass doors to the veranda. The ports of call were a bad choice on Vikings part most of which I am sure management never stepped foot onto. The included excursions were pathetic as there was nothing to see in theses container ports in Indonesia yet we only spent one day in Singapore and no overnight and in Bali there was no included excursion, the two highlight ports of the trip. The entertainment was mediocre luckily highlighted with Balinese dancers brought on the ship on the last night. Enrichment lectures lacked spunk and basic information on the ports of call. But if you like seeing reindeer hides, fireplaces, and the guest service dressed in Nordic sweaters while cruising through the tropics then this cruise is for you. Oh did I mention everything was shut down for a couple of days due to Norovirus? Read Less

We were looking forward to a stellar Viking experience-such as we've had previously on Viking River cruises. This Bangkok, Bali & Beyond embarking from Bangkok on November 16, 2018, was a rather dismal journey. 1. The ports and excursions were not that interesting nor enjoyable. The Viking contracted buses were almost shoddy and had no bathrooms (some of the drive times, exceeded 1.5 hours). We heard very negative reports from passengers who took the additional ($$) excursions. 2. After a norovirus break-out, the ship instituted CDC precautions--this is very understandable. However, this caused the serving staff to dole out the buffet food and many times it felt like high-school/college cafeteria lines. The serving staff seemed unprepared for this process, were not literate in English, and usually unattentive (backs turned) when one needed some particular food item. 3. Due to CDC precautions, spa and pools closed for a few days ( not Viking's fault, but again, disappointing). 4. At our reserved dinner at Manfredi's Italian restaurant, wait staff was particularly unskilled in serving. After our appetizers, we waited for almost 30 minutes for our main entrees to appear, but were only given the dessert menu!! at that point. Manfedi's staff seemed chaotic at times and not all the tables were in use. This dining venue had poor supervision. 5. A lovely classical violin/cello duo played in the evenings in the main atrium, but was situated a mere 15 feet from the noisy and at times boisterous bar and crowd?? I believe this cruise was not up to Viking standards. They have a beautiful ship and it's cruise was majorly marred by the the poor port/excursion planning and more than occasional, sloppy buffet/restaurant service. Disenchanted we were... Read Less

We have taken numerous Viking river and ocean trips. I never write reviews, however travelers need to know this trip is not worth the time or money. Until this trip we have had wonderful experiences with Viking. Picked the Bangkok, Bali and Beyond because we hadn’t been to this region and the ports looked interesting. The trip started off rough when we missed a connecting flight, bad weather, and the ship. No biggy, we made our own arrangements and connected with the ship at their next port stop. Our disappointment was the excursions consisted of riding around on buses and the points of interest were not interesting. One tour in Surabaya was terrible. We were suppose to see ancient temples and we went to a temple at a run down theme park! Seriously! The port stops need to be re-evaluated, maybe not stop at so many ports, and pick the quality stops and stay longer. The staff at guest services need more training about the region and Viking systems. This ships staff in general need more training in customer service. The biggest slap was when we learned after we were on board that the “two days” in Bali amounted to four hours before we disembarked for the airport and the flight home. The 13 day trip is really 11. Is Viking’s desire to grow their company impacting their quality for quantity! Would not recommend! Read Less
