We'd taken a Viking Ocean Cruise across the North Atlantic in 2019, and decided to break our Covid travel limitations on another, because we knew that the boats aren't overcrowded, and that it was possible to do things like wear masks and eat outside on the deck. Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia is a relatively new destination for Viking. The Mars is new as of 2022 and is a beautiful ship. Buyer beware when booking this ship and itinerary. The selling point of going on 30hrs of flights from th US was that viking was knowledgeable ,had a good handle on the tours and we would be immersed in the culture from Bangkok to Bali .This was NOT the case. We took the 12 night trip from Bangkok to Bali. The disembarkation port is more than 2 1/2 hours away from the city of Bangkok by taxi. This made making a visit to Bangkok after boarding the ship an expensive and challenging proposition. There was no indication of the distance from the port by Viking prior to our actual trip.
