Following two excellent Viking river cruises, we were not sure how this Viking ocean cruise could possibly measure up to the standard of excellence we had experienced on the Viking Long Ships. Not a problem: the ship was first class in every way, the cabin was spacious and spotlessly clean, the tours were superb, and the staff - as on our river cruises - was really terrific in every way. Oh, and the food was outstanding. I have told many people that Viking hires only the best people and provides them with superb training. We love Viking! As for the shore excursions, all were special: the beauty of Stockholm, the interesting Finnish countryside, the magnificent palaces of St. Petersburg, quaint and wonderful Estonia, the amazing Malbork castle in Poland, the many interesting sights in Berlin (not to mention the very scenic train ride through the German countryside), the ambience of Denmark, and the fabulous fjords of Norway. Every stop was memorable. I would highly recommend this cruise to anyone. Read Less

We had a great experience on the Viking Sky. This ship began cruising in January 2017. Everything was clean and well maintained. We met so many wonderful peoples on the cruise. The ship is mid-size, but it offered a great many features the mega ships have, but not the crowds on shore excursions. Entertainment offered a good verity and we found it better than some other ships. Viking does a great job explaining the ports of call and the tour guides did a great job, We were able to book our next trip on-board at a special discounted price. It was actually a back to back trip of two different cruises. We will not need change our stateroom for the second leg of the cruise. We ate in the specialty restaurants several times during our cruise and found them delightful. I had a chance to deal with the medical department from the first hour on the ship. I had left my injectable medication on the airplane and the ship Doctor had a new prescription filled in a local pharmacy. They delivered my medication to my stateroom before we left port. Anytime that we travel, we bring a list of our medications just incase of this type of need. Read Less

We had cruised on Viking River and just had to try the Newest Ship on the best Itinerary. Only 1 day at see and 13 amazing ports... The service was outstanding from embarkation to debarkation. Amazingly smooth. The food was terrific and the alternate restaurants were amazing. All the things you would expect and more. The shows were simple but well done and entertaining. The ports of call great. Only ding would be on the all day excursions and some of the specialty extra tours. To costly for what you got.. Flam railroad... Good but not great. Big groups and lots of travel.. Need to break tours to fast groups and slow groups.. So much waiting.. "why does everyone have to go to the bathroom 1 hr after we start a tour... OMG.. Fitness and spa were amazing Ice room and Steam the best ever!!!!! Any way can't recommend this cruise and cruise line enough... We already booked another cruise... so magical. Read Less

Loved visiting all the Baltic States and Russia. The food was delicious and the excursions were very informative. The weather was beautiful and warmer than I expected. The food was a big concern for me because I have a serious allergy. However, the dining staff was very good in trying to find something I liked without adding wine to my dishes. Since I can't drink wine or consume anything containing sulfites I felt that I should have been offered cocktails because others could have all the wine they wanted. Our cabin staff was excellent and were very cordial and tried to do more than what was expected of them. The entertainment on board was exceptional and we enjoyed many nights dancing until the club closed its doors. I wish that we could have had more free time to enjoy our port stops and not to have every minute planned. Thanks. Julia Read Less

Wanted to see Baltic. This cruise did that very nicely. The Serenade still looks good and the design works well. Ship to get a refurb. soon to add some new paint and replace aging furniture. MDR was offered good food with great service. RCL tours were excellent. Room attendant and dining staff excellent. Diamond Lounge was overcrowded but staff there were great. Next Cruise was bad. Booked early and found prices dropped a lot later. Was told no dollars back but if I paid more I could upgrade. We learned that the upgrade took away our onboard credits. Won't book there again. Shows were very good. It was so cold (snow twice) that we never used the balcony. Tours in Russia were long walks but worth the effort. The ICBM site in Lithuania was a trip back in time. The history of the area remarkable when it comes from a local person. They saw war from Norway, Sweden, Czarist Russia, followed by Bolsheviks, then Nazi Germany, then more Russians followed by a devastating Soviet experience with collapse. Lots of poverty and excess but no real middle class. In Russia saw poverty and folks driving by in a new Lamborghini. Read Less

It looked like a good deal price-wise for the first cruise of the year to the Baltics. The food in the main dining room was pretty good in the evening except for the desserts. The next to last night they exceeded themselves with offerings of both Baked Alaska and Grand Marnier souffle. On the last night they offered a key lime pie which I passed on because and earlier offering was called the mile high lemon meringue. Turned out to be a dab of lemon in a pastry cup with a ball of meringue on top. The key lime pie though was the real thing. Entertainment was not Las Vegas style and most nights it was only a one or two person "show". Also many nights there was only one show. It was a fail on entertainment. Our cabin was kept spotless and was serviced at least 3 times a day. Food in the buffet was average with a fail again on the desserts there. The pastry chef does not seem capable of producing an edible blueberry muffin. On the other hand Royal continues to have the best bread at sea. Royal was extremely cheap with the orange juice and only filled the glasses halfway. The crew was the most international I have seen on any ship with 55-65 countries represented. Ports were generally good but in Riga the ship docked at a container loading area to save docking fees. As far as Klaipeda was concerned, I think a day a sea would have been better. Read Less

We chose the Baltic and Nordic cruises because they offered the itineraries we wanted and were back-to-back. The RC shore excursions were excellent as were the non-RC excursions that we mixed in because of content or price. The excursion leaders were well informed, personable and accommodating. Needless to say the food was wonderful. The on-board activities were suitable for us as seniors and the indoor pool was great for families with kids with several hot tubs for soakers. We enjoyed the entertainment. All aspects of the cruises met or exceeded our expectations except for staying connected with home via internet and US news reporting. The WiFi was expensive and unreliable which seemed strange since everyone uses it to stay connected with family and friends. There was only one US news channel offered, CNN, which omitted sports news and focused on negative political reporting which was not beneficial for international cruisers and a huge disservice to our country. We've cruised on five other lines based on desired itineraries, and would definitely cruise with RC again. Read Less

We choose this cruise due to the timely dates of the cruise offered. Overall we were not too disappointed having experience Mariner in Dec we sort of knew what to expect. Cabin: Deck 10 fwd (1020) great location (even in rough seas) was much smaller than on the Mariner. Struggled to get 2 suitcases in the small wardrobe so one had to go under the bed which was a very tight squeeze. Nice KS bed (2 singles joined) very small couch. Bathroom adequate. Otherwise overall presentation of the cabin was quite good. Albert our cabin attendant could not have done more for us. What ever we asked for was never an issue & promptly supplied. Best ever. Though they must change their small blankets which do not fully cover a KS bed. (we hate doonas) Dining: Mostly at Windjammer though we often wondered why due to the seating which is ridiculous. Mostly large 6 setting round tables (no doubt wishing guests to join others but some like us like to have our meals in peace & quiet) Therefore with just 2 people sitting at these large tables one struggled to find a seat. Breakfast was the worst times. So heads up RC SOTS change your seating to more 2 or 4 seating arrangements. We used to go to dinner around 8pm as was the best time to find a table. While there is the overflow it could get very cold if near the ever opening & closing doors & not real easy to eat from the more reclining type seats Coffee out in that area was more lukewarm than hot also Food in Windjammer was mostly pretty good & varied. Though the toast station was terrible each morning hard & cold. Hardly any waiter service which we have been used to on other lines even the Mariner had drinks service. Whereas in the 10days we were asked only a couple of times or we would have to try & grab a waiter to ask. Most staff just cleaned tables & some did not appear very happy people & unwilling to make eye contact in case you asked for a service. Reflections: Only dined once as the menu was limited due to not being able to eat a lot of spicy foods. Good service Chops: Good meal (had the added Lobster & was delicious) Great service. Shows: Really only soso of the two we went to. Noticed a lot of people in audience asleep lol. Retail Shops: Perhaps after the Regal Princess one of the better shopping experiences in variety definitely no comparison to the Mariner which was deplorable. Alcohol was so cheap as to was some of the jewellery when on sale. But beware the Russian so called sale as the Port in St Petersburg had much cheaper "dolls" etc than the ship. We also found most of the ports had souvenir shops on the piers which we took advantage of but watch your prices. As we had bought a cap in Tallinn which was dearer then the shops on the pier. Excursions: We totally agree with another poster regarding cancelling their pre booked tours in favour of either the HOHO buses or local transportation available at the ports. NONE of which we knew about until we boarded & read the daily COMPASS news. Our advice. Do not book any tours until you board & check out the daily news for what transportation is offered at each port. Sure you take the risk of maybe missing out but that was not the case on this cruise. And always if the HOHO bus is at the ports it is mostly always the best way to see the best of that city instead of only portions on a tour. Embarkation: While lengthy queues ( as nobody really takes any notice of their timings to board) it moved rather quickly. Could not access out cabin until around 1.30pm but not an issue as plenty to explore & orientate ourselves before hand Disembarkation: A breeze. We did wait a little longer than our allotted time & disembarked without going to the station (which we find easier to do our own thing anyway) Luggage located & in a Taxi to the airport within 1/2hr. We chose this cruise based on the itinerary. Embarkation and disembarkation smooth but very slow. Ship is in very good condition, regular information from the bridge was very helpful, cabins small but nicely decorated and neat and clean. Dining at the Windjammer was so good and of excellent quality so we did not even try the other outlets. Entertainment and activities are very "American". Cabin service was excellent, the other services average. Shore excursions were OK (we only did St. Petersburg and Klaipeda organized), the tour guides had excellent and vast knowledge of their countries but the organized tours are quite expensive and the lunch in St. Petersburg (excursion Grand St. Petersburg with Hermitage) was more than disappointing. Bar prices are quite steep. Majority of guests were American, Spanish and Asian but most other nationalities were also present. Knowledge of English language is an absolute "must". The pick-up from the airport and boarding the ship, went very well. The facilities at the ship is very good, but that is probably all at the positive list. The service in the 2 receptions, were non existing. There were a huge lack of general knowledge and understanding of English language. If we asked about general information about the arriving ports, the answer was pretty much, take a taxi or book an excursion. As an overall opinion, this cruise is focusing on Germans and Italians. The service people in restaurants, bars etc. were helpful and service minded. The theater entertainment was about average, due to too little variation in performance. Dining area at our main restaurant was very nice, but the food was way below our expectations. The amount of food were not sufficient and poor quality. At our table for four persons, we had to let the food go back about 10 times. Steaks were impossible to cut and the same for the duck we got. At most meals the staff was trying to sell extras. MSC Galla nights means that the guest is dressing up, but the food at dinner is below average. But you can buy special food and drinks to extra prices that fits to your galla dress. Upsellin all over all the time. Dinner was a horrible experience. The port information were missing and no help in reception. Easy questions like how to get to city center, prices for taxi and busses, a city map was not possible to get. We had to buy extremely expensive wifi to google the information we needed. We had booked some English tours from home, but the guides did most in German language.Getting back from one excursions, we had to wait outside in heavy rain to get trough security check and back on the ship. Very poor organized, in this case in Marseilles. In overall a very disappointing cruise. The first and last time on MSC operated cruises. Read Less

We choose the Regal Princess because of its destinations. We had only cruised with Celebrity to this point but always wanted to try Princess. Overall, we were happy with most things on Princess. The excursions, all booked through the ship, were great. The stateroom, balcony and bathroom were smaller than what we experienced on Celebrity. The embarkment, disembarkment and service were superior to Celebrity. Entertainment was mediocre and the food was a major disappointment. We have previously dined in Blu Dining on Celebrity. The food was superb. The dining room was small and not noisy like the main dining. We inquired at Customer Services to see if Princess offered anything similar to learn they do not. My spouse is hard of hearing so the noise level in the main dining room makes it difficult for him to understand basic communication. That alone might be a deciding factor in us rebooking with Princess. The ship is beautiful, far superior to the Celebrity ships we have cruised with. There were so many "wows" for us. Didn't feel that way about the Celebrity ships. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of its Baltic itinerary and because of our really good past experiences on Princess ships. The Regal is just that - a regal ship. The interior is elegant, beautiful. Embarkation at Copenhagen was a breeze, and our walk-off disembarkation was just as easy. We had an aft cabin with an extended balcony - what a great view out the back of the ship! While the room was not overly spacious, it worked just fine for us. There is a large screen TV in the room, with a wide variety of shows and movies. We chose not to use the formal dining rooms, finding the quality and variety of food at the Horizon Court buffet just fine. On several nights, the Soup Station was a wonderful collection of Asian vegetarian and/or turkey dumplings, won-tons, diced chicken and/or beef, glass noodles, egg noodles, mushrooms, peppers, cabbage, etc, put in a bowl and cooked with chicken, miso or beef broth - yum. Then add beef short ribs, leg of lamb, roast chicken, roast beef carving station, salad stations, great cheeses and pates. And there's an entire section of Horizon devoted to desserts, all very delicious and elegantly presented. We dined at Crown Grill one evening. Amazing food - Pan seared Pacific Scallops with fennel, Black and Bleu Onion soup, mixed salad with balsamic and avocado, grilled prawns with delicious rice, steaks cooked to perfection, and a chefs sampler of wonderful desserts. The staff on the Regal does an excellent job - efficient, friendly and hard-working. The was a good variety of entertainment. A performance by students from the Majorstuen Music School in Oslo and a Russian folkloric performance called the Moroshka group were unique and enjoyable. The ports of call on this Baltic itinerary are each interesting in their own right. Sadly, our excursion in St Petersburg to their subway and markets had to be cancelled due to security reasons, but our trip to the Hermitage was fairly good. We would definitely look for another Princess cruise soon. Read Less

We chose this cruise as it went to St Petersburg. Wish we had done a back to back cruise as it was not long enough in each port. Having cruised with Princess cruises on a number of occasions we like the service we receive from them, certainly being Elite members gives you more benefits. Regal Princess is a lovely ship - our first time on board the Regal and we're disappointed to find that we could not really do our daily stroll around the deck - it is necessary to walk through the ship at each end to get to the other side. We are not tour group people and prefer to do our own thing unless there is something specific. Next time we would arrange our own visas in St Petersburg to enable us to do our own thing. However day one we went to the Hermitage museum and the had three hours on our own. Took ourselves into the Church of the Saviour of Spilled Blood, which was amazing and then wandered there is a great cafe worth going to located on a corner 52 Nevsky Avenue. Has been open since 1902. The canal tour was great, however you only get to see the above church from the outside. Sabatini's restaurant on the ship was awesome. Extra cost though. Food in Horizon Court was okay - nothing exciting though. We ate at several other restaurants and the food was good. International Cafe served much better coffee this time. You need to buy a coffee card, if you have this you pay for coffees, teas and hot chocolates were free. Food here had cakes, salads and a choice of pie and several other items. Certainly a choice of pizzas restaurants, you could get hamburgers as well. Some great music from groups in the Piazza. We only went to the Princess Theatre a couple of times as preferred to sit in the area in the piazza and listen to the music and watch the dancing. Embarkation and disembarkation was a breeze. All the port stops were great. Did not go to Berlin as it was too far away. Warnemunde worth a wander around and we really enjoyed Rostock. Easy access by train. Most of our ports you could access the towns really easily. Stockholm 1 hour 10 mins by train. Recommend this cruise if you have not been on the Baltic before. We would certainly go again. Shore excursions were expensive and the Spa treatments extremely expensive Read Less

Selected this cruise based on itinerary. Had cruised once before on Celebrity with my mom and loved the experience. Overall, the ship is beautiful and the staff was wonderful. There were a few glitches that kept it from being a five star experience. We were in cabin E701 which was listed as obstructed, it is not and was a great value and the proximity to the aft elevators was helpful for my elderly mom. We had an issue not being able to turn the TV off. Before you jump in and think why not just shut the lights off I will tell you we tried and later learned that the power for the TV is on a different circuit and shutting off the lights didn’t work. The plug wasn’t reachable either so we had a 56” night light when we were exhausted and trying to rest. My calls to customer service went were in vain and finally at midnight my mother physically went to the service desk in her pj’s. The number a folks standing in line being very upset about plumbing and other issues was indicative of the experience. The TV was an issue on and off throughout the cruise. Yes, I spoke to customer service, yes, I politely asked for a manager after the problem wasn’t resolved and, yes, it effected the cruise. Princess needs more people staffing customer service. Even though the Regal had just come out of dry dock our balcony rail was painted and the connecting door hardware installed on separate occasions while we were on land? The food was hit or miss. We loved the Crown Grill and can’t understand why the food there, especially desserts, were so much better? The desserts looked better than they tasted for the most part. Trust me we didn’t starve though. Alfredo’s was very good but the menu is limited. Horizon Court was very good and were the main dining venues overall. I had a gel manicure in the spa and that was disappointing. The service area was right next to the door where a representative from a foot insole company was pitching his product throughout my manicure. Also, the music choice was less than soothing, not the usual Zen offering but Scottish folk music? How are you to relax when a rousing rendition of “We Will Not Be Moved” is blasting? Seriously? I understand the staff is tasked with selling products but don’t interfere with the service I paid for to sell me eye cream. I had to not have my face touched as my nails were being done? The entertainment was good but the same group basically performs for every show and they are talented but it becomes a little old. The comic that was the guest entertainer was a welcome reprieve. Unfortunately, my mom fell during our St Petersburg tour and trying to get some assistance for her on board was impossible. The hours of the medical clinic were very limited considering the demographic of the ship. We did private excursions. I would select Celebrity over Prince if I had the chance again. Read Less

The three best things about this cruise for me were the staff, the onboard facilities and the furnishing and fittings of the ship. But there was nothing that was less than excellent. The staff bent over backwards to make sure our holiday experience was as good as possible - nothing was ever too much trouble. Best of all was our lovely cabin steward Ayu. The staff were friendly, smiling and helpful. The Nordic sauna and swimming pools (one outdoor) were lovely and everything was immaculate, not a speck of dirt or dust anywhere. Meals were wonderful as well, with a huge choice of dishes, always including some local specialities. The excursions were well organized, enjoyable and informative. There was a wide variety of entertainment onboard as well, including a splendid professional pianist. I'd do this trip again without hesitation. I have tried hard to think of something but there was nothing I could possibly criticize. Even the haircut I had onboard was exceptional! Thank you, Viking, for a wonderful two weeks. Read Less

Cabin and ship very poor, In the morning you do not even get a pot of tea and a freshly baked hard roll. In every port the worst berths, not a single time a transfer to the city for travelers who even go on a sightseeing tour. It is the by far bad ship with which I have ever taken. Complaints are accepted and one is friendly, but absolutely nothing is done. Every 10 meters on the corridors a bucket that catches water. In the gourmet restaurant sorbet was on the menu, I ordered it. With a grin I was given the cheapest ice with the comment on the table, sorbet would not exist. This is quite typical of this ship, I have experienced it several times. Only positive was the fruit in the morning and the check in. I will never travel with Holland America. Other shipping companies offer much better ships and a real service. Most of the staff on Westerdam made a very untrained impression Everything quite terrible! Read Less

This was our third cruise with HAL. Previous cruises were on the Niew Amsterdam (upgraded to Neptune Suite) to the Mediterranean several years ago (originated out of Venice but once past Dubrovnik we ran into severe weather eliminating the ports of Corfu and Kotor and later, Florence). We had a great cruise, non-the-less, as the Niew Amsterdam was lovely, clean and the staff, wonderful! Last September we cruised out of Vancouver sailing through the stunning "inside passage" and later traveling by train to Anchorage, Denali (3 nights) and finally Fairbanks. This cruise was WONDERFUL. The Noordam was a nice ship and we again, stayed in the Neptune Suite. We did miss the Tamarind restaurant, however everything else was fine! This past month we sailed on the beautiful Koningsdam! I wasn't sure what to expect as I had read so many reveiws by those who were disappointed by the Koningsdam new 'look' and amenities. I'm here to tell you.....My husband and I aren't spring chickens (I am in my mid-sixties and he is in his early 70's) but we're open to updates and changes. The Koningsdam is a gorgeous ship! The changes in decor are lovely with the MDR airy, light, and spacious! The Lido has changed a bit with fewer access points from one side to the other, which isn't that big of a deal. The other change was that servers would, for the most part, serve each passenger's requested foods from behind the glass partitions. This eliminated passengers from handling the ladles or serving utensils which would encourage passing of germs, etc.. So, that was a good thing, we thought. And, it didn't seem to take any longer to get your food. We signed up for the "Ultimate Dining Experience" which included a dinner in the "Sel De Mer", the Pinnacle Grill; the Tamarind, the Caneletto; and the Culinary Arts dinner/presentation. ALL of these meals were absolutely delicious and the service was second-to-none! We especially enjoyed our all-time favorite; the Tamarind. The atmosphere there is so relaxing; the decor, beautiful and the host is the same welcoming gentleman we encountered at the Tamarind while cruising on the Niew Amsterdam! This gentleman and the servers are top-drawer and aim to please! The food.......absolutely delicious! Our reservations for the Tamarind were on our last evening and we said several times that we should have begun our cruise with dinner there as we would made a point to schedule in more dinners there! The Pinnacle Grill is always a sure-fire winner with their tender and juicy steaks! Once again, the host there was the same gentleman who was our host on the Niew Amsterdam (and congenial and welcoming) three years ago! Quite the coincidence to have two, former hosts now on the lovely Koningsdam!!! The Sel de Mer was a new experience for us! The food was very good and we felt pampered with all the servers tending to our needs! The Canelleto has improved substantially! The restaurant is still attached to the Lido but the visual design of the restaurant has improved considerably. There is more of a division (somewhat of a see-through wine storage wall) between the walkway next to the Lido and the restaurant so you feel you are in a separate restaurant. The food served was wonderful and again, the service was outstanding! We were pleasantly surprised by the Culinary Arts meal and I really hope more people take advantage of that offering! It was very interesting to watch the chef/assistants prepare the entire meal plus give us an idea of how to do the same at home. The food presented was so delicious and at the end we were given the recipes for the entire menu. It was a wonderful evening of great food; great service (it comes with many glasses of your choice of wine) and a chef who knows what he's doing! The MDR meals were varied and quite tasty! If we hadn't of chosen to purchase the "Ultimate Dining Experience" package, we would have been content with the choices offered through the MDR menu. We always ask to be seated with other cruisers as we find this to be a chance to meet/ talk with others from other parts of our country and other parts of the world! The ship itself is quite beautiful! And, as others have said, you don't feel that there are as many other cruisers on board that there actually are! Some have been quite vocal about the absence of the library and we were told by the captain (at a ship gathering early on in the cruise) that HAL is listening!! There will be changes to the Koningsdam and to the new ship being built. That being said, there are still plenty of quiet spots on this ship where one can curl up and read a book. A library is a nice touch, for sure! Our room stewards were always smiling and willing to serve! "Paul" was our main steward and was always courteous, gracious and smiling! I am always amazed that these hard-working souls know our names by the end of the very first day! The ONLY negative comment I have about the Koningsdam (and I am VERY picky!!) is about the bed. Our beds on both the Niew Amsterdam and the Noordam were so comfortable and almost identical in comfort to our Tempurpedic at home. Both my husband and myself are sensitive to the comfort of a bed due to back issues and unfortunately, the bed on this ship was very uncomfortable. We could almost feel (what we thought to be) the springs through the top of the mattress. The ridge between the two twins were also very apparent. Watching the tv from the bed was out of the question due to the uncomfortable bed. Otherwise the room was fine with the bathroom shower nice and roomy and the water pressure/temperature great! The room was located aft on the back end. We had NO problems in this location and enjoyed viewing the wake and surrounding sea and shore throughout our trip. We used the treadmills almost every day. Never had any issues with not finding an open machine! I had my nails done on the first day and the lady there was super nice and did a great job on my nails! She even massaged my arms first with an apricot cleanser followed by a lotion-oh my! That was heavenly!! ;0) One other thing (besides the bed) that HAL can improve upon are the two comedians that they hired for our cruise. I guess we are spoiled by the wonderful comedian we saw on our first cruise on the Niew Amsterdam. He was terrific and the two on this cruise just paled in comparison. :0( All in all, however, I'd still give this ship/itinerary/accomodations/food/staff etc...a solid "A"! Read Less

This was a VERY nice cruise. We went for 21 days plus extensions before (Barcelona) and after (Stockholm) the cruise. It was the longest cruise I have been on. Frankly I was ready to come home after such a long cruise. But the food was great and we had exceptional service. The free self service laundry was a nice touch but was often full. We visited some great ports along the way. The heated bathroom floor in our cabin was a special treat I hadn't expected. I was very impressed with the entertainment on board. This ship is a small ship (compared to most), but they did not skimp on the quality of entertainment. The crew seemed like they were always so friendly and would go out of their way to help you in any way. My wife was disappointed to find no magnifying make-up mirror in our room. She mentioned this to one of the crew and the next day there was a magnifying mirror in our room. The cruise was not cheap but I would definitely do another one with the Viking Cruise Line. Read Less

When we saw the itinerary for this trip we were immediately interested. It included 10 Countries and 15 cities, many of which we had not visited before. We signed on 3 weeks before the departure date because this package including air fare looked to enticing. We took a pre-tour package of 2 nights in Madrid. The ship is beautiful, its a great size with 900+ passangers. The crew is terrific, they do an amazing job day in and day out. We cant say enough good things about the crew. The food is very good. There is a good variety in the 5 restaurants, and the food is fresh, well prepared, and welll served. Each of the restaurants has unique offerings in and pleasing ambiance. Plus there is 24 hour room service. The cabin itself is a nice home base for this long of a trip. It is roomy and has many very nice features - like heated bathroom floor, the makeup desk, the good sized lanai, etc. The ports were a great selection and there was an included excursion at each port. The extra excursions we took were all good value for the money and well done. One highlight of the trip was the included excursion to Berlin. Viking chartered a private train to take the 700+ passangers that selected this included excursion. We had a very knowledgeable tour guide in each train car who explained where we were going, what we would be seeing, and what our options would be for the time we would be "on our own". When we arrived in Berlin we got a bus tour of the city with photo ops at the major tourist sites. After time on our own we were bused back to the train. On our train ride home our tour guide came thru the cabin offering water, wine, beer, pretzels etc. When we arrived back at the ship we walked into the terminal and were met by a German Band playing, singers singing, waiters with champagne and appetizers, and the entire crew lining the way to the gangplank in their best uniforms, clapping and singing us home. It was truly a special moment. When we got back to our cabin, we found a plate of cockiness waiting for us. It was the perfect end to a great day. The entertainment on the ship was surprisingly good. We have been on many cruises where the entertainment was "ok", but this was really good entertainment. The enrichment speakers were also really good, very knowledgeable, and interesting to listen to. Whoever lined them up did a great job. Read Less

We love the Viking ocean ships and this itinerary went to many ports that we had never been to before. This is the 3rd Viking ocean cruise we have been on and really enjoy them. At 900 passengers on these ships, it is far more comfortable than the 3,000-7,000 passenger size ships. Viking has the embarkation and disembarkation down to a science and both events went very well. In terms of the ship, our cabin, the dining options, entertainment, excursions, and overall service, all would be rated 5 stars. There is really no aspect of these cruises that we can find fault with. If you can get on an ocean cruise with Andras as the piano player, you will thoroughly enjoy his music. He is an excellent musician. We continue to look for another Viking ocean cruise to destinations we have not been before. We would not hesitate to book another ocean cruise with Viking. Read Less

We always like to travel to Europe in the Spring and selected this ship because we had heard good reviews and it is the newest Holland American ship. The ship met our expectations. We loved the dining options, especially the Pinacle, the Farmers Market and the Tamarind The lectures were very good? Trivia is always great fun and we met lovely people. The computer teacher was the best we have ever had. The crew, cabin stewards, bar staff and dining venues staff were exceptional as always on Holland American. The Cruise Director and his assistant Nathan were so good and made every event fun. The ships singers and dancers were also the best we have seen in a while and the main show room with the video screens added to their performances. The Koningsdam is a really beautiful ship and we would definitely sail on it again. Hopefully in the near future. Read Less

This was my 20th cruise and I have cruised on most of the major cruise lines, so I have a lot of ships to compare the Koningsdam to. I loved our balcony cabin, the restaurants, and the entertainment. Our cabin service was impeccable. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly and quickly. The Lincoln Center Stage performers were awesome! The food both in the dining room and in the Lido was delicious, and there was something available just about anytime you were hungry. The cruise was beyond my expectations in every way and I was sad for it to end. We are going on the Koningsdam again in December, and I can hardly wait--seeing it decorated for the holidays is going to be spectacular!!! If you choose to sail on this vessel you will not be disappointed. Read Less

Took this short cruise for a short break to celebrate New year away from home. The best bit about P and O cruises is the Sindu restaurant. Ate here twice in 5 nights. This was a typical cruise ship food and entertainment. Very disappointed in the dance hosts and venue. The male host never moved away from the cds he was playing and the lady only danced a couple of times. On other cruise ships the dance hosts are dancing all the time. A few cha cha classes were offered during the morning and that was it.They never showed us any sequence dancing and when asked they didn't know them! The dance floor up om 10th floor had no bar and took the waiter over 30 mins to bring the drinks. felt very cramped and stuck away. A shortage of chairs to sit on. Dancing in the globe theatre ..again lack of seats. A waiter was really rude when I was leaning up against the viewing area. Dance hosts useless hardley moved away from the music player. never showed any dancing . Can they dance I began to ask myself! Lack of things to do apart from quiz and a talk. Not the standard of the Oriana or Cunard. Food is typical of mass catering but plenty of choice. Cabin boy excellent and very attentive. Read Less

A nice itinerary, a very friendly and helpful crew, nice cabin but will never cruise on this ship again why. Entertainment good shows but the times are not as on all other ships i have been on show times 7pm and 9pm, nothing on after second sitting for dinner, except tp sit in a bar and drink, the amount of people who returned to their cabins after the second sitting should tell the senior staff something, as they do not seem to listen to their cusomers. Food quality and choice was lacking and having sailed on the marco polo same cruise line which was why i selected to try the Magellan, was very disappointing. The only time on a cruise that i even skipped a full english. On the bright side the itinerary which included st Petersburg, was excellent and would encourage others to do, but not on the Magellan.
