Large ship cruising on a smaller scale

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Le Bellot

Tigerdbw1
6-10 Cruises • Age 70s

We enjoy small ship cruising and desired to try a ship/cruise line new to us and we’re taken with starting on the Thames. The ship is new. The physical plant is excellent. The excursions are average to excellent depending on the sites and guides. We had two average and one excellent guide on at three excellent sites. The food is average. The service is impersonal. Waitstaff’s English is spotty at ...

Fantastic Ship if money is no object

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Le Commandant Charcot

I notice that none of the other reviews talk about money. I'm therefore assuming this ship and itineraries are for people seeking to explore certain destinations and will pay whatever it takes to do so. In that case I would echo the other excellent reviews. However, almost everyone I spoke to on this 2 day ship visit, said that they had a great time, but they really had to think about if ...

Lucky Cruise

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Spitsbergen

I really can’t remember why I chose to cruise round the Outer Hebrides in April (the trip had been postponed for a couple of years due to the Covid epidemic) and I realised it was a mad decision on reading previous CC reviews BUT we were very lucky and had excellent weather. This meant that we missed only one landing on Iona. I think the company have learnt from previous reviews and have ...

Best ever holiday

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Maud

We choose this cruise for two reasons, we thought after covid a cruise around the Uk would be the safest and also it went to many destinations we have never been too. As a wheelchair user I was not expecting to leave the ship unless we were moored at port ( just three) but no the expedition team got me on every Zodiac and landing to places like Iona , Tresco to name but a few . They were ...

surprised how poor this cruise was.

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Fridtjof Nansen

This cruise line should stick to ferry service ! Having recently been to Antartica on Swan Hallenic we were expecting much of the same on this Arctic Cruise. We were sadly mistaken for sure, Surly staff in general, they seemed very over worked, except for the bar staff. Nickel and diming for most everything, for example, if you were late for lunch and ate in the restaurant that was ...

A fantastic bird watching and natural history experience.

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Maud

We, 2 senior citizens, chose this cruise primarily because of the itinerary, i.e. visits to Rathlin Island, Iona, St. Kilda and the Isles of Scilly, amongst others. We had to wear masks on board in most enclosed areas, but these were provided free of charge. The MS Maud is a fairly small ship, so it was very easy to learn the layout and get around the ship. This was our first Hurtigruten ...

Some brilliant birdwatching, walking and history

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Maud

We chose this to visit some of the remote island on the west side of the Uk. We had great weather which is not always the case. I was not impressed with the motorised dinghies for going ashore which were quite uncomfortable particularly when the sea was choppy. However we visited some brilliant place. Rathlin island and St Kilda were the best. The ship is small and there were only 400 ...

Amazing cruise of British Isles

We had done a fantastic Norwegian Coastal Cruise/ Northern Lights with Hurtigruten 5 years ago. We so admired the focus on science, shore experiences and excellent food. The British Isles cruise offered even more off-boat excursions and the varied talents of the expedition guides made for a lifetime of memories. The offerings gave very active guests plenty of stimulation while also offering ...

Well below expectations

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Le Champlain

This was a Smithsonian Journey and on a previous cruise we met a lovely couple and we became good friends. They had booked this trip and asked if we would consider doing so and enjoy a holiday together. Sadly this trip did not compare in any way with our previous experience while cruising with Ponant. The only special part was meeting our friends. Our cabin left a lot to be desired, ...

Brilliantly enjoyable........great voyage, staff and crew

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Maud

An expedition, not a cruise, with many scientific experts on board to help, talk and lecture, with their own areas of expertise. Particularly good if you were interested in bird and sea wildlife and the geology of our country / islands. We were travelling to some remot'ish islands and taking into account all safety issues they managed to get us to land at all the destinations. All bar about ...
