The grand mother recommended the cruise with Royal Caribbean. The good food was great the staff where friendly the room attendant was great the waiter in the dinning room was great. The bad 2 broken hot tubs, Broken ice cream machine, unwashed windows, and rust abounding on the exterior of the ship. Now the Ugly I dropped my children off at the teen center on the ship for a "in room scavenger hunt" as described in the teen flyer. I come to find out it was a all over the ship scavenger hunt how easy at 10 pm. at night would it be for teen to be abducted and raped and thrown overboard? Brought the issue to guest services it was never addressed!!!!!!! More ugly RC claimed a port of call at coco cay which I hear from others frequently is cancelled so they flat out lied and offered no other port of call. Last of the ugly Shore excursions were great but very short not a good value. Read Less

We went on the cruise with a small group. Because we have went on several cruises in the past, we were able to know what to expect, and where this particular cruise stacked up in regards to others. It is solidly at the very bottom of the list. First, we waited at the airport of our pre-arranged transfer with RC for over an hour and a half. Once we finally arrived at the terminal, we were able to get through the embarkation process fairly quickly, but right before the sail off. The ship was more crowded than any ship we have ever been on. There literally wasn't a chair to be found many times. In the Windjammer, repeatedly people would be told over the loudspeaker to quickly eat and vacate their tables so that others could eat. Not exactly a relaxing dining experience. The noise was deafening and constantly the waiters were dropping plates, and silverware. One even dropped a full glass and it splashed all over a lady sitting nearby from head to toe at our first meal there! At least it was just water..... There simply was not enough room for all of the people to eat. The only other dining option is the formal dining room, and it wasn't open for every meal. There is a small sandwich area, but usually one person working and a very long line. You would have to wait for a very long time to get even a yogurt, or a bowl of oatmeal, because she had to serve each person individually. It was strange and terribly inefficient. We went there only once because, despite the compass saying the Windjammer would be open at 6:30 for an "early-bird" breakfast, it was not. We stood in line for quite awhile. The sole lady working at the counter did the best she could with a huge smile on her face, but she really needed help! Or, at least some of the things should have been self serve! We both asked for panini breakfast sandwiches. She put them one the grill and served them to us. After we sat down, my husband's was missing he egg totally, so I opened mine to try to give him part of my egg. It was as cold as if it had been in a refrigerator!!! We sadly left our food and walked away. I assume due to the large crowd she was having to really hurry and just couldn't leave it in long enough to fully heat it. We walked back to the Windjammer, but the line to go in was going down two flights of stairs and they still had not opened. We ended up just not eating breakfast as we had to report for our excursion by 7:30. (Although, once there we waited for over an hour just sitting, so I guess we could have eaten!) The food in the dining room at night was very good. Our waiter, Domingo, was exceptional. We ate at Chops one night, but I personally didn't think it was any better than the dining room. It was quieter though. The main dining room is so cram packed with trying to fit way too many people in that you can barely get around and the noise is truly deafening. It was hard for us to even hear our waiter speak. The only other dining option is the Windjammer. Our itinerary that was originally given was not followed AT ALL. We were supposed to go to Nassau first, get there early in the morning, and stay all day until midnight. That did not happen. Instead, we were told that we were going to CocoCay first....with no explanation as to why it changed. That did not happen. High winds and waves were blamed and we were told that they could not tender us in. We sailed by it and arrived in Nassau after dark, when all the shops were closed, and you couldn't see a thing. They only gave us until 3pm the next day. Unfortunately, we booked a Segway tour on the "Blue Lagoon" Island tour and it took our entire time. VERY disappointed in this tour. First of all, they wouldn't give us a straight answer on the ship as to whether or not we both had spots on it. They made us come back three different time, wait in a very long and slow moving line, and ask there were spots for both of us. Finally, they said they would call us. They didn't. Secondly, we were told to report to an area at 7:30 am for our excursion. We sat there for over an hour! Then we were marched outside and stood for another very extended period of time waiting on our water transport to take us to the island. After getting on, we sailed for awhile and then stopped at another place to pick up more people! We finally arrived at the Blue Lagoon Island and by then has wasted a ton of time when we could have been doing something else. The Segway tour was ridiculous! We only traveled maybe 1/4 of a mile in all! At a speed that was so slow you could probably have walked faster! They made us get off and showed us a couple of landmarks and then we went back. That was it! Crazy! So disappointing! The island had a little water area (not a beach on the ocean) and one overpriced restaurant selling gross-looking burgers and hotdogs for crazy high prices. I finally bought a bag of pretzels and it was $8!! We finally left and the boat again took people back to the other stop before taking us and it wasted time. By the time we got to Nassau, it was nearly time to re-board and we had to get back on. We never really got to see Nassau at all. So much for our Bahamas Cruise. Terribly disappointing. The entertainment on the ship was ok. We saw a couple of shows, pretty costumes, the usual dancers. I had trouble staying awake. We did enjoy the juggler/comedians. The ship itself is nothing remarkable at all. Walking the narrow hallways to our room, you had to navigate around all of the housekeeping carts and bags of laundry that we always on the floor in the halls. All day, every day. Never seen anything like it. There was a sewage-type smell in many, many areas. I saw cigarette butts in many places (people seem to just smoke anywhere and nobody says a word! Grr!) and crushed food in the stairways that didn't get cleaned up all day. The gym is the smallest gym I have ever seen on a cruise ship and horribly HOT. The jogging track is filled with people and closed half the time due to the rock climbing wall. The "walking track" on deck 5 was constantly filled with smokers and it is permanently closed off at one end anyway, so what is the point! If you want to run, do it early, and the mileage on the jogging track is .33, so every three laps will get you a mile. I ran my fastest 5K ever up there one morning! We did get to enjoy KeyWest and I prearranged some quality hybrid bikes through "WeCycle" and they had them waiting for us. Best bike rental we have ever had! Only $15 each too! It is difficult to ride in the shopping area, due to crowds and traffic, but you can ride for miles along the ocean and I really enjoyed it! The disembarking was ridiculously unorganized, with staff giving out contradictory instructions. We carried all of our luggage from one end of the ship to another and up and down flights of stairs due to this. It was frustrating. At the cruise terminal they separated us because the forced my husband to wait for a small elevator instead of going down the escalator with me because he had luggage and that upset us as we managed escalators just fine at the airport. I waited a LONG time for him because it as a small and slow elevator and he was in a long line. In summary, this truly was a very disappointing cruise. The others in our group had never been on a cruise before and have now said they never will again. We know how much better it can be and should have been. So very disappointed. Read Less

I've cruised many cruise lines, Disney was honestly a disappointment. First the cost is double so you should be able to expect double right? Wrong. Employees with no personality waiting for their 8 months to be up ! People pushing and shoving at Cabana for the brief time that the buffet is open each day. We actually missed a few meals because of lack of opportunity at Cabana and dining room being gorgeous but unappetizing for the human palate. The room was amazing and probably the cleanest boat Ive been on. Having a tub and huge floor to ceiling window was gorgeous! The shows are disney shows...no adult comedy club and thats one of my favorite entertainment. Everything closed down about 6 pm so on top of the steep price, they shut ya down at 6! Gym closed early and wont let muscle fitness 15 yr olds work out with adult even. Movie theater was a bonus but not the bonus I would've preferred on my first disney cruise. We missed all meet and greets due to lines or lack of tickets. The adult only pool area was nice, but of course my kids couldnt go so we tried not to stay too long. We all did the waterslide only twice because of long lines..15 year old didnt enjoy the teen club so he stayed in the room a lot. Yup... it was a waste of money in my opinion. If my kids had been younger and we hadnt been to Magic Kingdom 3 times a year while they were young, it might have been worth the extra cost. Im actually anxious to get back to Carnival in November and possibly adventure over to Royal Caribbean for son's graduation. Hopefully I can find the best ship out of Florida on RC. Read Less

This is what I liked about the cruise; the food was available throughout the day and the sweets had real sugar. The ship was clean except the bathrooms. I have to say I was impress with the ease check-in and out system, I give them a 5 stars for that. Other than that there was no entertainment for my 12 years old son other than being in a room that was decorated for 5 years old kids. They will not allowed him to be with the 13-17 year old teenagers so he stayed in his room every night after dinner. One of the reasons we do cruising is because my son is entertained so we can enjoy our vacation. This cruise line should expand the group age from 12-17 because a 12 year old kid is in middle school and have friends older than he or she. The food was horrible, just hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch with a bunch of starch. The cruise should offer a nice salad bar and a variety of fish and meats for people who are vegetarians or on low carbs diets. The same thing for breakfast, sausages links and bacon and a bunch of starch. I like going to the gym and I did not enjoy the gym very much. It did not have a variety of equipment. Customer service is very important to me as I am in the public service business. The employees did not seem happy and it was reflected in their customer service. Some of them were even rude and disrespectful. We watched the showdown on the last night and I left after 5 minutes because it was not even entertaining. We enjoy dancing Spanish music and 2 singers were singing on deck 7 and the show was stopped even though people asked to keep playing. It is like it bother someone to see a bunch of people dancing Spanish music. The last night on the cruise there was a tribute to Carlos Santana with a life band and it was cancelled. Then they put a D.J. instead and it was turned off at 12:00 a.m. even though we wanted to dance and enjoy our last night. The only place that was open was the club and they were playing silly adult games. There was a bartender that did not know how to serve drinks so it took half an hour to get a drink with no wait. There was only a few bar sections on the last night and some of them were shut down by 11:00 p.m. giving people only one option on their last night which was at the club with silly adult games. This was our first criuse. We wanted to check if we get seasick. We are a Family of 5 and although one of our cabins was large enough, we were required to book two cabins. So we booked two cabins in one reservation. They still put two floors between the two rooms. At booking we were promised side by side cabins. The booking however was done with a marketing company that never revealed their real name. One of our rooms was ok, tempwise. Although on the edge of being too warm. The other room was too cool. We complained three times to our steward and once to the customer service desk. Nothing was ever fixed. When we wanted to leave the ship we had to wait 45 minutes, then we wete told to go back to the service desk. I did so and it turned out they didn't understand we had two rooms. So some explaining later we could leave for a two day stay on the Bahamas. It turned out that they had forgotten to give us a Bahamas immigration paper. So we had to get those from a not so funny immigration officer. Good was however, the evening food buffet, the breakfast buffet and the athmosphere on the ship Read Less

Well lets start with this. The best food we had on the ship was at the late buffett. Decent chicken wings and onion rings. The first meal I ordered was only made edible with the bacon and the sauce. Over cooked and extremely small portions. Yes I know cruise ship small portions I understand and wouldnt really think anything of it if it was cooked correctly. So I ordered a steak Medium rare. That too came well done. The second dinner I had was seared tuna salad. Lots of filler maybe a spoon full of seaweed and 4 of the smallest slices of seared tuna I have ever seen. More appropriate as an appitizer. So I tried a steak again. This time opting for Rare. I will give them that there was a sliver of pink but for a rare steak that was a dissapointment. Breakfast was disapointing no matter where you went on the ship. I tried to eat the buffet breakfast and it was ...well buffet breakfast so I got what I asked for there. Then tried the dining room with another buffet but you can order eggs. Ordered eggs benedict. It was sour. Orange juice was very watered down. For lunch I tried the burger and hot dogs on deck and got a well done burger and some cold fries. The hot dog was actually a good size but I have tasted better gas station hot dogs. "Entertainment" I really wont even get started with that. The only entertainment we enjoyed was in the piano bar. I think her name was Tonya she was short and Very funny and unfortunately wasnt on our return voyage. Now My biggest issue on the ship was an A/c issue on the first night. All the rooms were hot and heard many guests complaining after I had to go to customer service because a server in the casino gave me someone elses ship card after I ordered a drink. So I know I wasnt alone on this. Embarkation in Palm beach. Security is tight and no real line just right when you come in the door is the metal detectors. so we checked bags and got onboard easy enough. But we arrived early. Disembarkation in the bahamas. Another big issue We got off at 10 to go to the resort. Rooms wont be ready till 3.... ok so we assume a late checkout no big deal. they send you to a room to leave your luggage on racks with attendants. I didnt experience any issues here but I could see issues not being a big surprise. Luckily our room was ready before 3 our friends wernt so lucky and had a nice little wait as all the other guests checked in at 3... So we are awakened on our last morning at the resort by housekeeping. Checkout is at 10am........ 10am-3pm to clean rooms. I will simply leave the comment of LOL. We scheduled our transportation via direct bus transport on the ship from the resort at 12:30... so another 2 and a half hour wait to go nowhere. so we wander the market and get breakfast at a little restaurant. We go back at 12:15... there is still a line for 12:30 passengers Behind the line for 12:00 passengers that were not picked up... so we grabbed our baggage and jumped in line.... FInally at 1:30 we get on a bus. We arrive at port and manage to make it through scurity and customs with ease. Disembarkation back in Palm beach. The line off the ship was backed up from Customs all the way inside the ship. It took 3 hours to get off the ship. Once we got 1/2 way through the line we find out there is another line for passengers with passports and passport IDs. not only that but Ship officers and crew would pass by everyone in line transporting crew getting off and even refreshments for the new guests about to come aboard. Customs handled us very quickly so I dont think that was the issue. In Summary I met a lot of folks who took this voyage as their first cruise. I would not recomend it as it might turn you off to cruising all together. If you dont mind dealing with sub par cruising as a quick vacation then by all means go ahead but I wont be doing it again. We were disappointed with the ship. I'm surprised that it has a 5 star rating because it's an old ship and looks old. It's been refurbished, but mostly what they did was add the aqua level which costs a lot more unless one is a high level frequent cruiser on Celebrity. I think the rest of the ship would get a much lower rating. The food in the main dining room wasn't good. The buffet food did taste good, but it was so crowded that it was stressful. We had beverage packages. I envisioned relaxing by the pool or on the upper deck and having waiters bring me drinks. There were only a few waiters walking around taking drink orders. Since the inside bars were closed during the day even when at sea, the bartenders on the decks were rushed and there was always a crowd waiting to place an order. That was stressful. The pool and deck chairs were crowded together to the point that they were all touching. There was no space between the chairs to set a drink or beach bag. It was difficult getting in and out of the deck chairs. The worst part was that strangers were squeezed together up close and personal in swim suits. That was not relaxing but stressful. We have no complaints about the cabin. The stewards were great. I missed not having ice in our room. That's a service they stopped unless someone requested it. We never got around to requesting it. The room was clean and neat and the stewards were friendly. I liked the drink packages. We could have all the drinks we wanted but just not in a relaxing or fun atmosphere. We can also stay home and get all the drinks we want. Read Less

This review is of the ship and not the ports. Arrived to the port around noon to find poor directions to the. Our luggage was taken promptly and off we went to wait in line for 20 minutes to check in. When you check in make sure your onboard charges are linked to your credit card, my roommate's were not even though she gave them the card at embarkation. We arrived in our tiny stateroom to find the beds together. When I made the reservation I was asked if I wanted the beds together and I said "No." Both rooms that I booked were set up with the beds together. It took several hours for them to be correctly made up. the bed was uncomfortable, hard like a pallet and two out of four developed sore backs by the second night. Off we went to lunch which was served in the top deck buffet restaurant, it was fine except that the two soda machines were empty and the prepaid cups were of no use, had to order from a waiter and wait for service. We needed a card table and on the entire ship there is one which is in the "library" and the chairs are not high enough for the table. I say "library" because it is the game area and also is wide open to the atrium. If I wanted to read in a library this would not be it! The service desk was useless in helping to meet our needs but Igor in the restaurant was great and his staff was welcoming and accommodating throughout the cruise as we sat and played a lot. In fact each time we went to the service desk for assistance they could not help. The food in the dining room during dinner was not good however, our waiter Stephen was great. The turkey was processed and had a tasteless gravy on it. The duck was so spartan I could not find the meat to cut off of it and the chicken marsala tasted like roasted chicken with gravy. The best food was during breakfast in the buffet area. Go into the Windjammer on deck 11 and pass the tempting buffets you first see, proceed to the back of the dining area and you will find a full buffet that is not as crowded since everyone stops at the first one. In the afternoons they were making crepes back there. The deli on deck 12 near the pizza line is also very nice and there is no extra charge to eat in there as there is for Johnny Rockets. The pizza is good too..The self service soda machines are in this same area and you can use them only with your coke cup which is a very nice cup by the way. The show the first night was not so good and we were not enticed to go back so we went to the piano bar and had a nice time listening to the tunes there and enjoyed the music around the ship. There were plenty of activities on board during the Nassau day, during the Coco Cay day the ship is delightful since most people get off. You may need money on the private island- some extras and shopping are cash since the islanders provide them and not the ship. On day two the plumbing seemed to begin to be problematic. In every public restroom at least one stall was out of order and in some it was more than one plus we had a flood in our stateroom. The response to this problem in our stateroom was professional and attended to quickly. The stateroom and restaurant staffs were great and the ship was very clean. The departure process was extremely slow but the problem was caused by customs and immigration. Our luggage was waiting for us and departing the parking garage ($20 daily) was easy. I was on board with girlfriends and we had a great time but the ship was not up to our expectations. I am not impressed with RCL. Read Less

It was myself and my husband traveling and after this cruise we have decided to never, ever cruise with NCL again. Especially not on the sky. We were on this ship last year, and I believe I also wrote a review of that cruise experience. Well the sky has gone way downhill since then, as had NCL in general. If you have not yet booked the NcL Sky, do not book it. Royal Caribbean has a ship sailing from the same port on the same days that will be a much better option, though it may cost more. Well I wish we had book that instead. I would've been worth it. We could not wait to get off this ship!Ok so here's the details...The food is the absolute worst we have had on cruises, and this was our 14th cruise. The buffet was very limited. It had the basics and there were several questionable looking dishes. Everyday for breakfast, I had scrambled eggs and breakfast potatoes. One of the days we had breakfast at the Italian restaurant, which offered omelets and waffles. It was all OK...it would have been nice to have an eggs Benedict station, or at least a choice of eggs Benedict since we don't eat pork, but I loved poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. Oh well, that's not the end of the world but bear with me. Twice at the buffet, I saw that my juice cup had lipstick stains from the previous guest. It was dark lipstick, so they obviously don't check the dishes at all before putting them out. For lunch, we soon figured out that we could eat cheeseburgers, hot dogs, or salad. Again, they had the questionable trays of goo and deli meats that had been sitting out for who knows how long. They had a really scary looking enchilada or lasagna. There were few signs and you definitely couldn't tell by looking at it. The salad dressing were in small plastic jugs with no labels. I tried to look inside to determine the dressing. I was not able to figure it out so I had to smell them. That didn't work either so I didn't eat my salad. The next day, the dressings did have the labels. It was strange that they only had ranch, bleu cheese, and 1000 island dressing. No low-fat options like vinaigrette or anything remotely interesting. The last day I poured a bit of the bleu cheese on my daily cheeseburger and saw how watery it was. They definitely water down the dressings. MDR was Ok... Each evening there was one course that was enjoyable. The first night had nice fresh bread. The second night I had pan-seared tilapia which was quite good. The third night I got the grilled chicken off the everyday menu and that was nice, and the last night I enjoyed the pear salad as an appetizer. We dined in Crossings the first two nights and Palace the last two nights. The other courses besides the ones mentioned were bland, blah, or gross. None of the desserts were anything special. The house cheesecake was okay and my husband enjoy a German chocolate cake from the buffet on the first day. We got ice cream from the buffet each day - not bc it was good, but bc it was OK. And we needed something for a snack. Oh how could I forget....the lobster night. Lobster night is always the first night on NCL (at least for the Sky and the Epic). I think this is bc they know few ppl go to MDR this night. It was pretty dead in there. So anyways it is a surf and turf, bc the lobster tail came with approx a 2 ounce portion on "NY Strip". Yeah right! There is no way that was NY strip. The steak was pretty bad and we could not eat it. It was so grisly and fatty. We did get a couple bites down and the taste was not particularly bad, but the consistency... Uggghhh. Ok so the lobster had some strange orange glaze on it. I asked the server, and it was either rum butter or burned butter... I don't know what he said. I figured this "butter"sauce was what gave the horrible rotten flavor, but then I realized the obvious - that the lobster was a few days past it's prime. I hid the lobster that I couldn't eat back in the shell, because I couldn't deal with the waiter trying to bring me another one. He had already brought my husband a second tail, which he tried to choke down. There was salmon on the everyday menu, which I wanted to try but I refrained from it due to the lobster night issues. Ok so moving on.., we were in an inside cabin. Wow this ship must have the smallest rooms at sea. We could hardly move in there. Princess and carnival have the lock down on good sized rooms, whether interior or not. This is an old and outdated ship. There were only 3 drawers and a closet. We each had a night stand with 2 shelves to store stuff also.we didn't bring much, just one suitcase between us, and our stuff just barely fit. So I can't imagine if we had each brought a suitcase. Since we have been on so many cruises, we have really learned to slim down the amount of clothes and things we bring. But wow... Good thing we didn't bring any more. Ths shower was so small that u could not turn around in there hardly. I brought my own conditioner bc I knew they wouldn't have any. But an unforeseen issue! The shower only gave cold water! I struggled through my first shower, trying to stand out of the water stream and lean over to wash my hair. I reported this to the room steward. Later that day he appeared with maintenance. My next shower was tolerable, but at best the water was warm. I still had to rush out of there as soon as possible it at least I wasn't shivering this time. The mattress was very firm, no cushioning and we each had 2 flat pillows to use. There is a tiny tube style tv. If u don't drink all day or gamble, there is almost nothing to do. Out of sheer boredom, we watched at least one movie every day in the room. All of the daily activities center around wayside get u to spend spend spend. The weather was rainy most of the time so the pool wasn't much of an option. Also, our private island day was cancelled due to the waves so we were given a sea day. They added some additional activities, like putt putt in the atrium and extra jewelry talks, in case there weren't already enough of those haha. We ended up taking an extra nap and watching an extra movie in our room. Also, the sea look very calm to me so I don't know why they really decided to skip the private island. On the first day, we noticed our luggage had been delivered outside a room down the hall from us. our suitcase is a bright blue color, so it was easily recognized. the next day we overheard our neighbor explaining to the room steward that he was missing something. later that night we got a letter in our room that someone had lost a camera case with a camera and hard drive in it. i believe that it was delivered to the wrong room, as our stuff was. Also, pieces of floor moulding were loose all around the ship, the railings were all crooked. There was caution tape on several stairwells, particularly on the pool deck. Our room steward was very friendly and tried his best - ill give them that. But most of the buffet and dining room workers were very unpleasant. You could tell they did not want to be there. Entertainment (or lack thereof) - the comedian did a full show on the third night and it was pretty good. We missed his adults only show on the 4th night. The second night had a production show that was okay, and the first nights show was a variety show. Which meant welcome to this ship, plus brief dance performance and a brief set by the comedian. I will try not to ramble on, but want to give a clear impression of this ship. I will break it down by category.Embarkation: Arrived in NY around 11am and grabbed a cab to the dock. Dock is a stones throw away from Penn Station, about a $10 cab ride. Entered the terminal and proceeded through security fairly quickly. You will be given paper numbers that designate when you may board the ship. When your number is called, that group may proceed to the boat. Unfortunately, the wait to check in, get the room cards, etc, took so long that we were still in line when our number was called. There should be a more efficient way to have people board, but we've sat through worse. We boarded the boat on Deck 6, right in front of the Java Cafe.....welcome to the 70's. Public Rooms: Ship was pretty clean. Public rooms were adequately maintained. Cabin: We had a balcony stateroom, 10148, towards aft of boat. Cabin was kept very clean (thank you Sharon!). Bed was not very comfortable. Shower was bigger than anticipated. All in all, the room was fine. Fitness & Recreation: The Fitness Center has an area for free weights, the main area with machines and treadmills, etc. And a seperate room for stretching, etc. Note to early risers: There was a sign in the free weight room stating you could not use them between 6am-8am. Come to find out there are staterooms UNDER the gym and those folks were complaining about the noise from the weights. This is unacceptable. Either inform those under the gym that they may hear noise, or do not rent out those cabins. Yes, I worked out anyway during this time......apologies to those below the fitness center. The aft of the boat has a rock climbing wall, and a basketball/tennis court. BIG waste of space Hardly used. It would be a perfect space for another pool, as the only pools on board are in the middle of the ship.Rates: OUCH! Be prepared for anyone 3 years and older to pay a $12/day charge for the mere privilege of being in the cabin. But wait.....I thought I had already PAID for it beforehand. In our case, 2 people, 7 days, $12/person = $168. So you're in the hole this amount before getting your first drink. Dining: Everyday the cruise director would rave about the "World Class" cuisine on the boat. Really? Really? First morning we ate breakfast at the Grand Pacific main dining area. Ordered a ham & cheese omelette. Cheese used was not real cheese (orange and applied like cheese wiz) and was not melted. Fake cheese on a boat? We learned to go to the buffet and have an omlet cooked to order. Somehow they have real cheese there. The selections in the main dining areas were not great. Menu did not change much from day to day. We did pay the $20 and ate at the brazilian restaurant for my girl's bday. Food was not top shelve and the staff did nothing to honor her birthday. If you want a pizza delivered to your room, $5. We did this twice and both times the pizza was pretty raw (and we asked for it well done). In short, if you are one who cares about what goes into your body food-wise, you will be disappointed. If you are the type who likes to gorge on crap (hamburgers, hotdogs, etc), you will be in heaven.Just a side note - we never felt "right" after eating on the boat (espeically breakfast). Entertainment: We saw the comedian Phil Tag. He was very good. The other shows didn't really interest us. Service: Our room steward, Sharon, was fantastic! Other than her, the service was ok. We've cruised Royal and Princess in the past, and service was much better.Shore Excursions: We did not do any, and thank god we didn't. Both the stop at their private island, and Nassau, were rained out. Alot of people forfeited their excursions because of the weather.Disembarkation: NCL actually did this very well. The fastest we've ever been off a ship. We did early walk off, and was off the boat by 8am or so. Very fast!Value: NOT GOOD. I have spent less money on other cruise lines and have had superior service. Overall: In my opinion, the GEM is due for a complete overhaul. It needs a total redesign: better pool layout, better food, etc. With some of their new ships now in service, take this one offline and spruce her up. I realize this review is very negative, but I wanted to be very frank about how it really is. Read Less

If it was your first cruise you may like it or others who have rated it highly may have liked it. This was our fourth cruise. By far the worst. For many they have no comparison as to what other cruise lines are offering..so they may it is the best. It was not that Carnival services were horrible or the staff was not up to par with other cruise lines (they weren't but they weren't bad), or we had a bad experience with a particular thing - simply if you have been on other cruises it is horrible. Here are the reasons why: Shows or Entertainment: HORRIBLE. I wish I can copy and past the daily activity schedule. Well I can, just a white space. In their activity schedule they have food, what restaurants are serving today, what is at a salad bar. Where are the Broadway style shows, where are ice sculptures, what happened to magic show, what happened to talent show, what happened orchestra, what happened to physical exercises (like yoga every day or meditation or other physical activities). Their evening shows that my wife generally never misses could not stand it for more than 15 minutes. Trust me we tried all of them and got of our seats within 10-15 minutes. Their show halls were empty. There were hardly people there. Food: BAD. The buffet was closed most often - try it yourself. There hours of operation were such if you come at an odd time like 3 or 4 they are closed. The only food place open was the Grill that offered (chicken stripes, hamburgers) or pizza place. The food at these was ok, but were on a cruise for 7 nights. We are not food hogs, but we like to have a late night meals sometimes, SORRY IT SAID "BUFFET CURFEW" Seriously, as others before you get on a cruise if they have been on cruises that close their buffets at 11:00 p.m. no cruise line does. In the dinning hall the food was made by Indians - so it had a curry flavor to every thing. BUY, BUY, AND BUY. All activities were tailored for you to buy something. So instead of having professional entertainers they had professional sales representatives: selling you "drink of the day." Art gallery was open and was on the activity schedule so you can buy a painting. OR poor photographers working 12-15 shifts for us to buy pictures and taking our snap shots, so we can be enticed to buy at least one picture for $22.00. Sorry! We took a lot of pictures enjoyed them on the pedestal and then left it for them to trash it! NO HEAT. The ship has no heat. Seriously! If you are taking a winter cruise going out of Baltimore you will be cold for 1.5 nights and then for 1.5 days coming back. I would suggest take another cruise line, spend $100 or more per person and enjoy the food, and particularly the entertainment. Our celebrity cruise was so amazing totally worth paying $150 per person for that cruise. Read Less

I should of none something would go wrong when the ship leave Miami almost 3 hours late. Dinner the first night took one and a half hours to get our food. In fact our whole side of the dining room was pissed off. One guy got up and yelled at the server, he had ordered a coffee drink 35 minutes ago and still hadn't gotten it. We noticed the servers were not insight, they were hiding because of the problem. A lady at our table left at 10:00 giving up waiting for her dinner. Then others left. We held out, being hungry and the buffet was now closed. Dinner came and the mashed potatoes were stone cold and the chicken over cooked and dried out and cold! Two others at our table told off the head waiter and left. Terrible meal, we did get desert after I said how long will that take and he went right to the kitchen and got it. The chocolate warming cake was delicious. The shows were terrible if you want to call them shows. They had a magician one night and a juggler one night and the cruise director told jokes the first night with a comdian with him. The comedian was good. This is the first cruise I have ever been on that didn't have singers or dancers on any night. Disappointed. Can't tell you how many people walked out on the shows, to many. The boat was like an ice box, always cold. We saw several people wearing their robes inside all the time. At breakfast the lines were terrible, I have never experienced these kind of lines. 30 minutes for an omlet. Even a head waiter said he had been watching and the flow isn't right. Some of the things on the buffet were very good and other things weren't. The Guys burger joint was fantastic, ate a burger everyday!! The deli had great sandwiches!! The worker weren't friendly like on other lines, not helpful at all. Our room stewart was good. When leaving Freeport the engine had a problem so we sat there 2 hours longer, alot of mad people. They couldn't go in the casino or shop on board. I will say getting on the boat and getting off the boat was super fast. They had a caribean party on the pool deck that was to start at 9:30 and it finally started at 10:30. Par for this boat. People were leaving after waiting a half hour for it to start. This was advertised to be The Best Party of the Cruise, that was a big joke. We stayed 30 minutes after it started, all of us were bored and found way more fun inside. Bad cruise director he just stood aound for half an hour doing nothing but posing for pictures instaed of getting party going. Our cabin was in the aft on deck 6 and the room would vibrate with a loud bass noise until 2am, very hard to ignore. There was no sleeping until after 2am. we would always be out until after midnight so it wasn't like we were trying to go to sleep at 10:00 like other with children. They need better noise insulation. The new upgrades were fine and an improvement, they just need to fix some of the other problems. Would never go on the Glory again. Done Sensation 4 times and liked it, Facination was good, and loved the Paradise. What happened to the Glory! All I heard was people complaining about this boat, I should of paid more attention to the reviews before I booked this. I feel let down on our vacation. Expected more. Read Less

The best thing to say about the ship other than it brand new, is that the public rooms, EXCEPT for the casino, are very nice. It goes down hill from there. First, the staterooms, I had a balcony are a very small 222 feet. The furniture is oversized for the room. Very poor layout. Second, the Men's restrooms on the Lido deck, by the buffet, are incredibly small. As long as we are on the subject, the layout of the buffet is very bad. There is only ONE station to get your Lemonade or Ice Tea, and they insist on bringing it to you, which takes forever. Unlike most other ships, the waiter/bus staff do not help people with disabilities in carrying their trays to the table. For a ship of 3000+ passengers they have a small, and very crowded casino. There is no room to walk around in. Even the Emerald Princess has a better lay out. It seems that they tried to add 100 extra cabins in a space not suited for it. Also it is not a friendly ship for people with mobility issues, as many decks do not go all the way through. While I know the ship was on one of its Maiden voyages and you expect some problems, the majority of the serve staff was NOT what you would call friendly nor service oriented, which has nothing to do with the newness. I would NOT recommend this ship to anyone. Read Less

We have cruises 3 times before and 2 of those have been with carnival. While we had a good time together as a family on our cruise, I have to say that we will be trying a different cruise line on our next cruise. The Fantasy was an older but well maintained and updated ship. The issues we had with the cruise were related to service and entertainment. We dined in the Celebration dining room and booked and had confirmation we were on the early dining. We noticed on our sign and sail card at checkin that they had moved us to late dining which really wasn't good for us in that we travelled with an 8 and 11 year old. After several attempts to change the time to what we booked, we eventually had to resign ourselves to the late dining. We have always had great service from dining staff on past cruises but were very disappointed on the Fantasy. The staff for our section were not friendly or very service oriented. We are not very high maintenance customers but receive similar service from disgruntled workers at fast food chains. Of course their were exceptions to the service but for the most part, we were not very impressed. We have purchased the wine packages on past cruises without incident but on this cruise we had multiple issues while trying to use the plan with our dinner. While maitre'd did come to the table and apologize (we had not complained so I'm guessing the staff told him of their mistakes), we won't buy the package again due to all of the hiccups. We understand mistakes but a good attitude from staff would have gone a long way. The steward staff was excellent and were always pleasant. They never seemed to sleep and the room was kept very clean. The ships entertainment was the worst. The shows were laughable (except for the comedians!) to the point where our kids even asked if we could leave. One of the comedians was pretty good (Darren ?) but the "cowboy comedian" needs to get back to the rodeo! Very nice guy around the ship but sorry, just not funny on stage. Not sure what the cruise line could have done about the last issue we had other than maybe more visible security but the crowd on this ship were really out of control. I don't mean just the normal drinking and partying that is typical for cruises. This cruise (and I don't know if it was just this particular week) definitely seemed to have catered more to young black cruisers which i have absolutely no problem with except for the large groups that were roaming the decks being very pushy in the lines and cursing loudly no matter if kids or senior citizens were present. We saw incidents of threats and near violence that has no place on a family friendly cruise. Again, obviously their were lots of friendly people of all races on the ship but the behavior of the obnoxious few definitely affects our decision not to take this cruise again. Read Less

I must first start by saying the first cruise my wife and I took was aboard Celebrity. We enjoyed our time on that cruise on were hoping for the same. We quickly figured out that was not going to be the case on this particular trip. Upon arriving at the Cruise port(about 2pm), we waited in line for security and cruise check in until almost 3:30pm. While waiting in line, we were surrounded by other cruisers who were very rowdy and unruly. One of the groups around us included 6 adults and 14 teenagers! This wasnt the start we were looking for. We quickly figured out that this cruise was at least a step or more down from the Celebrity cruise we took a few years back. This cruise was a little cheaper as far as price, but the atmosphere was not what we were looking for. We did not feel like the service was very personable either. The cabin attendant only spoke to us twice, the waiters for dinner were nice but not as impressive at the ones we had on Celebrity. I did enjoy however getting to know several dealers in the casino. They were very nice and provided very good conversations. The food was pretty good. No fault of the Carnival, but we didnt enjoy either of the our ports of call, Freeport and Nassau. This cruise is fine if its your first time, you are looking for this type of crowd, or if you are looking to save some money. We will definitely not be cruising on Carnival ever again. I would rather spend a little extra money and sail with a better company! Read Less
