This was my first cruise and wanted to experience everything with my grandson who is 10 and my daughter who is in her late 30's. This boat had one of the best cruise directors, Cookie and the staff members were exceptional! However, this cruise was overbooked with children and teenagers and there weren't enough events to keep them busy! Also, very long lines for food, no matter what type of the day it was. If you wanted to relax, this is NOT the ship to cruise on, especially during Spring Break. The majority of parents were angry due to the lack of activities for the "tweens" to do and we basically were babysitting. Also, we had a very bad experience at the hot tub due to the fact that there was no one to supervise any of the tweens who took over both hot tubs. There were several children in the hot tub who would not get out and were very loud and aggressive towards anyone, no matter what age they were and no one did anything about it despite the numerous complaints that were made! This cruise ship has a great cruise director but the team needs to get it together for ships during Spring Break because it clearly was a problem - we couldn't even enjoy the evening movies due to the fact that the kids were in the hot tub splashing and not respecting others around them! This ship is extremely overcrowded. You will stand in lines, push through crowds, and loose most of your excursion time due to waits related to overcrowding. The cabins are too small and balconies are tiny. Don’t bother getting a mini suite, they are the same size as a balcony stateroom. The food was disgusting. We got hard boiled eggs to avoid the nasty powdered ones and when we opened them they were dark brown- completely rotten. We let the station know so they could remove the rest from the buffet and they just nodded and kept handing them out to people. I hope no one got sick. The crew were clearly pulling multiple shifts and were clearly tired, lackluster or appeared frustrated and sometimes angry. One waitress was so tired she sat in our booth to tell us she was on her third consecutive shift and could barely stand up. The ship is obviously very poorly managed. From what I understand some of the other ships in this fleet are managed much better and the experience is therefore better. Also, one of our party members was walking on deck and slipped and broke their leg. There was no wet floor sign. The management gave him a breathalyzer, I don’t think he was even drinking- they just wanted to try and put the fall on him. After that he was stuck in a room and no one from the cruise even checked in on him or made an effort to bring him food. So obviously this ship should be avoided at all costs. Everyone I spoke to said they thought it was a bad experience. I could not find a single person who was happy. That’s saying something when the ship holds around 4,000 people. I will say that our steward was excellent. He did a wonderful job. The child care is also very bad. My child was in the tween group. I put her in for 2 hours. When they got out all of the kids said it was awful. My daughter pulled her bracelet off and stomped on it. Apparently they locked them in a room with nothing to do, no food and no bathroom access. The Ship alone was great. It just came out of drydock and it was almost like a new ship. The crew were also very kind. The dining room was our issue. Our wait staff on our first night needed some training again. All of our foos was not correct and he seemed not to care. The food also did not taste good either. I did not expect a lot because it was a 3 day cruise but it should have been better. Our room was always clean and neet. When we got off the ship at the end we did a facial recognition system for immigration and it was a lot faster and easier. We carried our bags off and was off the ship by 8am. Over all we had fun. We do not drink much so the drink package for us was water and coffee This shop is really not for kids. Read Less

The food/buffets could have been better. And should not be repeated everyday. Best thing was open bar, too forget the food. Dinner at the restaurants-worth it! Comedian was great! So funny! First stop-pvt island-loved it. Family Cabana very nice-complimentary fruit was one small plate. Towels/floats supplied. 50$ reimbursement of food, it was just ok. It’s still Buffett and open bar on beach FYI. Second stop is all about gold mostly. It’s a town of shops. Shows on board, were good but could have been better. Casino. Starbucks, Sushi bar. All white party-tu don’t have to be in all white FYI: any color. Teen club-you need to register them in with an adult. Arcade budget go with the deal-they use there room card. Shampoo/conditioner lotion included. No toothpaste. Best drink-bush wacker! Follow the fish on the rug for front of ship. They put the beach loungers away much too early. It was great to see Bahamas. Cuba is next for Me! Read Less

Based on the title, you can see that we were on a Symphony of the Seas cruise which probably spoiled us a bit. The Mariner of the Seas was an ok boat but I wonder if they had at the "B" staff on this one vs the "A" staff on the Symphony boat. Not to say all the staff was bad - some were friendly but some just did not want to be there. We had suites on both boats but the suite perks are vastly different including the suite lounge and dining options. Surprisingly even though we had a suite - we got stuck with another family for dining at a table with an unfavorable location. Also - no free wifi on Mariner of the Seas. Other than a nicer room - I would not spend the extra money for suite perks. While the room was spacious - we had broken furniture and plumbing. The kids clubs on Mariner was lacking and big step down compared to Symphony and and Disney cruise line. The Sky Pad was not working and the pool area is tiny. The waterpark at CocoCay is not operational so be forewarned. Hit or miss on food. Surprisingly - the food at Windjammer was better than Chops or the Main Dining Hall - go figure. Service at the sports bar was terrible but everywhere else was good. Spend the extra money and hop on Symphony of the Seas - you will not be sorry. Read Less

Seemed the bars were always understaffed, wait time could be long. Not sure why they would wait for your pizza order before they would make a pizza, line was long and they made pizza when you ordered It instead of a pizza buffet. Daycare was great, my 3 year old loved it! this was a great kid cruise other than the smell and swaying. I would take Carnival again but not this boat. I also didn't like the drink package, it was time consuming having to provide a drink card so they could swipe it and you had to sign a ticket afterwards, I prefer the all inclusive "free at Sea" cruises, NO Hassle! The Charleston port was kinda dingy as well compared to other ports but we could drive there saving on the costs of flights. But the drink package as about the same as our flight cost would have been so that's a wash. Read Less

I went on c.c. to check out this ship and a lot of bad things I had seen written about this ship and I was trying to change my cruise but it was too late, I just got off this ship Monday april 15th and we had A BLAST, my wife and I, this is a smaller ship, but the biggest I have been on and it was real NICE,the crew was always sweeping mopping cleaning up trash and even cleaning the ceiling , food was good and everytime we ported they were cleaning the side of the boat ,we went to princess cay Island and they will take u to the island in a shuttle boat where there is a nice beach(no excursion necessary) and then went to Freeport which u do need an excursion if u want to go anywhere, but there is on the island little shop[ can shop at , at the port, cabins were great, entertainment was good and we wouid. go again, CRUISE DIRECTOR WAS '' AWESOME'' KYNDALL FIRE was her name, it was really hard getting off the ship Read Less

My husband and i have cruised 7 times, including this cruise, with 3 of those on the norwegian gem and 1 time on the breakaway. We really love norwegian for the freestyle cruising and i feel like we get the most out of our money with them. The escape was the biggest ship we’ve been on and it was really nice. However, it might be because its so large that getting on and off took forever at both departure and the ports of call. We were also traveling with our toddler and spent prob 10+ hours during our cruise waiting to get on and off the ship while anxiously trying to keep him from having a meltdown on the ship- not fun. Embarkation was truly horrendous. There was some kind of issue and they made us wait in line for close to 2 hours. My son was screaming the whole time while we tried everything to quiet him and by the time we were getting on the ship i was close to tears. They do have a nursery with drop off available for babies up to 3, and the nursery attendants were really good with kids but if your kids cry for more than 10 mins (which is likely when theyre left with strangers), they buzz you on a beeper to come pick them up. Our son did well the first 2 times and the last 3 times we did a drop off to have dinner we got called back 10 mins later. Not their fault of course and im glad they told me instead of just letting him cry, and again, they were absolute sweethearts, but next time we will prob be bringing family to help watch our kids. The playroom for babies is only available for 2 hours a day on sea days, plus two 30 minute hosted activities where parents joined, so the other 10+ hours a day were spent either in our stateroom or chasing after our toddler while he ran around bumping into people. Oh and there were NO cartoon channels in the room. It was only one channel with tv shows that played randomly. Most other cruises weve been on had the food network, cartoons, hgtv, etc. We paid extra for a family mini suite which had a bath tub and that def helped a lot. But It felt like there was no where for us to go most of the days at sea but the arcade where we ended up spending $400 keeping our 22 mo old entertained. The best time we had was when we stopped at disney. This trip made me reconsider cruising with young kids. I think next time i might just go straight to disney and stay at a resprt or try a disney cruise, which might be more family friendly. Also we chose free wifi as one of our free promotional optio s but it never worked for us and i was too exhausted to figure out what was wrong. Outside of those annoyances, it was overall still a pleasant cruise. One of the times our son did okay at the daycare we were able to enjoy a nice dinner at moderno, one of their nicer restaurants. And norwegian ships are really beautiful and spacious. It wouldve been 100 times more pleasant traveling without a kid and a lot of the gripes i had would be nonexistent. Read Less

We had an amazing time! Awesome cabin steward, room was very spacious although the sofa/bed where my son slept was not so comfortable--we didn't know until late in the week to ask the steward for something to help (our first cruise). Food was wonderful, private island was fun. Pool was too small and too crowded. There were actually 2 pools, one was designated for adults only and the child friendly pool was full of 4 and 5 year olds--no fun for my 14 year old. Good news is the water slides were fun and he LOVED the basketball court!! There was more than enough activities on board (we did not partake in some) and the shows were fantastic!!! My son loved the comedians--and most were family friendly! My biggest complaint is the awful dirty ashtray smell from the casino. It was gross and unavoidable. Not sure why they still allow smoking on board, kind of nerve wracking since we were in the middle of the ocean and God forbid there was a fire. We are excited for cruise # 2 next year! Beautiful ship!! Read Less

4200 cruisers and 1700 staff. Like being stuck in NYC. We waited in lines all week for elevators, excursions, drinks, dinner. You could not get into buffet and find a table or a chair at the poll. Taste & Savor had horrible service with buffet quality food. I can say the Manhattan room was best dinner on board. Great Stirrup Cay Island was so crowded with 2 other ships there you could barely get in water in the designated swim areas. Most non relaxing vacation I have ever had. Bahamas was nice but it took long to get there only giving us 4 hours at the Blue Lagoon. Disembarking was a nightmare and we had to walk down 4 flights with all our luggage to get in line as there was no elevators available. We walked more stairs all week and I am a cardiac patient. I will never cruise again Read Less
