14 October left Southampton. Once again only 30+ minutes to boarding from leaving the car. But as the Exlipse and QM2 + one other were sailing at the same time getting to the port was actually very slow, crawling traffic from Rownham Services. I pity cruisers booked on P&O on 3rd July next year - 7 ships arriving 7 ships sailing, that's 60,000 passengers in 8000 (guesstimate) cars either leaving or entering the docks. Well that wont be my problem. I said this was an update - the Food was good last time and very good this time. The waiters in the free dining areas were much more friendly and helpful. Even the entertainment was much improved - three great comedians and a classical guitarist. The weather was very sunny and warm - even needed the sun tan lotion. That was not of P&Os doing. Just one gripe my cabin developed a noise which was very annoying - the solution was ear plugs. 3 Engineers could not solve the problem. Probably will need a ships refit. Another word of warning Duty Free. Get it ashore especially if you are luck enough to get to Gibraltar. Eg P&O Gordons £17 Off-licence Gordons £7.50 B&H £37 P&O Off-licence £21.50 (Gibraltar) Read Less

What did we enjoy most about this cruise ? 1/ P & O do try hard to give you a good time, by giving you very good service whether it may be in the cabin, the buffet restaurants or the main restaurants & varied, good quality entertainment at any time throughout the ship. 2/The staff are polite, efficient & well trained, whatever their duties. 3/The ship is immaculately presented, both in the cabins & the public areas. 4/P & O's alcohol policy is very good compared to other cruise lines. For example oassengers are allowed to take drink aboard whether it be on embarkation from Southampton or at any of the ports of call.Prices on board are similiar to our pub prices. 5/On our last night we ate at the 17 restaurant. We paid an extra £20 each supplement & we thoroughly reccomend it. 6/We can recommend visiting Cascais, half an hour on the local train (cost 2.45 euros each way) just up the coast from Lisbon. It's a delightful resort to wander around & it is well worth a visit. What did we not enjoy ? 1/ there is an unseemly rush from one venue to another in order to see the most popular shows, when the timing could be more staggered to avoid this. 2/ We heard from several people that the organised trips to Casablanca were very disappointing. We caught the shuttle bus to the "city" centre & were equally disappointed, as it is dirty, with major road works going on.It might sound exotic but We wish that we had stayed on the ship. 3/On this particular itinerary we spent the first day at sea, which of course is not unusual, this was followed by 5 ports of call on successive days & then 2days sailing to get home.Obviously we new this before we went but we feel that this could have been avoided with better planning. Love cruising a few faults with Azura prefer the Oriana. I felt the staff just hadn't got it together.TravelTrain from Darlington direct good service and on time. Plenty of taxis to the quay side no waiting .Embarkation a little slow we waited two hours to get on the ship but staff at Southampton were very helpful. CabinInside B340 deck 11 twin found it very small only enough room to walk between the bed and desk. Only one desk chair to sit on so had to sit on bed. Don't like the new style wardrobes it takes to much room out of the cabin and makes the cabin look very untidy.Shower room small but adequate kept very clean towels changed twice a day Beds and pillows very comfortable our cabin steward Manfred did a very good job Shopping A very good selection on board very good fair prices plenty of special offers duty free as good as on shore and you could buy alcohol to drink in the cabin . Spa service plenty of choice but I didnt use them.EntertainmentVery good something for every one quizzes films bingo bridge dance lessons and much more. The sail away parties were great fun plenty of football matches for the men in Brodies Bar . The Playhouse every night fantastic The Headliners put on seven wonderful shows and gave 100%each show. The casino staff were very helpful but the casino is to small for the size of the ship and the number of passengers not enough slot machines. A great day of entertainment and coverage of the Royal Wedding on board.Shore ExcursionsA very good wide variety of trips to choose from, good talks on the resorts on board plenty of information to help you make your mind up.Plenty of information and help for the independent traveler getting on and off the ship was very easy.Food This is where I was very disappointed with the cruise not up to P O standard Breakfast in Oriental restaurant good, buffet breakfast hot and cold very good choiceLunchPeninsular Restaurant good . buffet lunch salads ok Hot food very poor it tasted like food in a motorway service stationAfternoon Tea Peninsular restaurant afternoon tea very poor Buffet good choice sandwiches and scones cakes seemed to be repeated every day.Dinner Oriental restaurant had a table for 10 very good company poor service and very slow. I only enjoyed three evening meals out of 16 Only one vegetable every night so if you didn't like it you did without.Verdict should have been much better head waiter said he was very sorry but had a lot of people to serve. Final may not travel from Southampton again as there was to many wheelchairs and motorized scooters on board you couldn't get in the lifts Disembarkation we walked off very good and quick Read Less
