Best Dining
Awards given in culinary-related categories, including main dining options and specialty dining options.
Best Dining
Virgin Voyages
- Best Dining Winner
- Ocean Winner
The quality of cuisine on Virgin Voyages simply blows us away. It’s top-notch, from authentic Mexican cuisine in Pink Agave, fun and delicious Korean BBQ (still the only one at sea) in Gunbae; veg-forward menus in Razzle Dazzle, molecular magic in the Test Kitchen and the best "main dining room" at sea – The Wake. Every one of these “specialty” restaurants comes without any added cost -- which is unheard of among mainstream lines. The Galley is the perfect stop for quick bites and had us at “all-day breakfast,” but let’s not forget the sushi, Tonkotsu ramen and burritos.
Explora Journeys
- Best Dining Winner
- Luxury Winner
When it comes to luxury dining, we don’t ask for much: Interesting and diverse flavors; upscale ingredients pulled from appropriate regions, a wide range of choices in venues that feel like a top restaurant on land, not merely a ship; and a drinks list that encompasses trendy and classic cocktail and mocktail choices. Explora Journeys delivers on all counts. From the special olive oil that comes from a small farm in Italy to sushi rice imported from Japan to fresh fish served at the build-your-own ceviche bar, Explora Journeys' culinary offerings shine in the details.
Riverside Luxury Cruises
- Best Dining Winner
- River Winner
Riverside’s approach to dining mimics what you’d find in a great hotel, with venues that feel like land restaurants. Breakfast and lunch buffets are extensive, while also tastefully tucked away, helping to avoid any potential for lines. Meals are tailored to the region you’re sailing, with wine and cheese courses that highlight local ingredients. Lavish deck barbecues using Green Egg grills are a highlight, while oenophiles can pay extra for the best wine tasting menu we’ve experienced on the rivers in The Vintage Room.
Scenic
- Best Dining Winner
- Expedition Winner
After a day hiking on the ice or snorkeling with stingrays, you don’t have to come back to a five-star meal, but isn’t it better if you can? Scenic’s two expedition ships raise the bar for dining on small ships, with an unprecedented 10 restaurants, including room service. Options range from all-day casual grill to fresh sushi and an Asian night market experience to a molecular gastronomy Chef’s Table. The range of drink options on Scenic is equally mind-blowing, from a whiskey bar with 130 choices to an included in-room mini bar.
Best Specialty Dining
Celebrity Cruises
- Best Specialty Dining Winner
- Ocean Winner
Celebrity Cruises is the leader in specialty dining, thanks to its commitment to smart partnerships and unblinking innovation. It doesn’t matter which ship you sail: You will have access to the best specialty dining at sea. Michelin Star chef Daniel Boulud’s signature restaurant, Le Voyage, is a highlight, delighting diners with dishes that are creative and playful – and delicious. Celebrity even caters to vegetarians, with plant-forward dishes, including a tasting menu at Le Voyage.
How the winners are chosen
Cruise Critic’s Best in Cruise Awards combine the experience of our team’s cruise experts with the voices – and reviews – of real travelers who love cruising just as much as we do. Our editors this year have spent hundreds of nights at sea on dozens of cruise lines and choose the best based on their collective onboard experiences and industry knowledge. Our Cruisers' Choice awards are based on the best-reviewed cruise lines of the past year from real cruisers. A minimum number of reviews is required to be considered.
