The active cruise interested us as we are both avid walkers and enjoy biking and hiking. We were disappointed in the Avalon service compared to our experience on a Uniworld River Cruise on the Danube River. This was our first river cruise. We have taken cruises before on Oceania (London to Copenhagen), Royal Caribbean (Caribbean), Disney (3- Day), Celebrity (3 - Day), and Norwegian (Alaska).

On the Rhone and the Saone in France. No big noisy cities, just quaint towns and villages, interesting experiences, and pastoral views. Wonderful cruise. Food was excellent, wine and beer with lunch and dinner was a nice touch. The boat was big enough to not feel confined and small enough to be able to get to use it all. The excursions that came along with the tour were interesting and run by locals. The cruise director worked hard go give us unique experiences.
