There are no better views from your cabin than with Avalon Waterways. I’ve sailed with Avalon before and love the 200’ cabin, with 11 foot glass wall that opens up to 7’ of water, sun, fresh air & spectacular views which can be seen from my river-facing bed!! Awesome!!!

Our recent Rhine River cruise on the Avalon Expression was our 5th with Avalon. We chose them because of the larger size of their cabins (especially the bathrooms & shower) and the variety & choice of excursions. The only reason I did not rate it 5 stars is because we did not find the Rhine nor its ports as interesting or as scenic as other rivers.

We choose this cruise for ports and because there were options for active excursions.
The pros
The cabin and bathroom were more spacious than on most river cruise ships. The beds very comfortable.
The ship was very clean.
The staff attentive.
The food was very good.

We included a 3-day land tour to Saint-Malo and Mont Ste Michel. Ste Michel was the reason we booked this cruise. It was on our bucket list.
Some tours were too long. Meals and service on board were wonderful. Most tour guides were great.

We had a lovely time on the cruise and we were fortunate to have nice traveling companions. The food was good and the sights were nice. The internet in the room was non-existent and in the lounge is was poor. This is a huge issue as so many of us are working remotely. The excursions were left at the mercy of below average guides. Our first choice was Scenic River Cruises, we went on an excellent cruise with them last time. Scenic were booked on the dates we wanted this time, so Avalon was recommended to us.
It compared very well. Avalon staff were a bit more relaxed. The ship was pristine & the cleaners were always sterilising the ship.

We really loved Avalon, its people and especially the stateroom layout. The staff was friendly and competent, the facilities first class and the food, while not spectacular, was very good and met out expectations.
