This has always been on my bucket list. A river Cruise was the ticket. The overall cruise on the Expression was fine. the cabins are nice and provide adequate room. Always wanted to visit Monet’s garden and the Normandy landing beaches. Lovely crew very efficient Cruise manager, good food. I do prefer the Viking light wood everywhere and Scandinavian design but the Tapestry 2 (dark wood everywhere) very comfortable. The excursions were all very good and well organised. There are no better views from your cabin than with Avalon Waterways. I’ve sailed with Avalon before and love the 200’ cabin, with 11 foot glass wall that opens up to 7’ of water, sun, fresh air & spectacular views which can be seen from my river-facing bed!! Awesome!!!

Our recent Rhine River cruise on the Avalon Expression was our 5th with Avalon. We chose them because of the larger size of their cabins (especially the bathrooms & shower) and the variety & choice of excursions. The only reason I did not rate it 5 stars is because we did not find the Rhine nor its ports as interesting or as scenic as other rivers.

We choose this cruise for ports and because there were options for active excursions.
The pros
The cabin and bathroom were more spacious than on most river cruise ships. The beds very comfortable.
The ship was very clean.
The staff attentive.
The food was very good.

We included a 3-day land tour to Saint-Malo and Mont Ste Michel. Ste Michel was the reason we booked this cruise. It was on our bucket list.
Some tours were too long. Meals and service on board were wonderful. Most tour guides were great.
