MAJESTIC PRINCESS We did this trip for our 25th anniversary. Thanks to the Princess staff for the lovely banner and balloons. EMBARKATION was poor due to us receiving the wrong wharf information. We had Prince’s wharf in our itinerary but the day before we received an email telling us it was now Queen’s wharf. After being dropped at Queens Wharf, we had to trawl our suitcases through the busy ferry terminal to get to where the ship actually was on Prince’s wharf. Not sure what that was all about. Once at the right place everything went very smoothly. DISEMBARKATION was good. We booked the Princess airport transfer as it was only a few dollars more than public transport would have cost us and meant we were basically ship to airport (without getting too wet). Cabin L228 Cabin was comfortable and our steward Gomez was excellent. Bed was comfortable to sleep in but pillows were poor. One feather, one foam. I dislike feather but foam was not firm enough for me. Bathroom was extremely tight and neither of us are large people. Plenty of hanging space but not many drawers. Small fridge in cabin. Two USB ports but neither worked. Windows in need dire of cleaning, very annoying when going through the fiordlands. Also deck balcony glass impossible to see through and as you sit at a low level very annoying. The buffet marketplace is well set out so people have areas to go for what they want. Food choices ever changing and difficult to get to try everything or you would explode. Food is enjoyable, plenty of choices for all tastes. Just lacking seasoning but that is understandable due to the numbers aboard. Dining rooms are well decorated and spacious. Found food to be bland and either under cooked or over cooked. I have dietary requirements and tried to speak to the maître de as requested on the first and second nights in dining room. This did not happen and I was given food I am allergic too. After this everything was sorted out for me in the dining room. Harmony restaurant was enjoyable and worth the money. People we met liked the Le Mer food. Lots of small food places to get burgers, hotdogs, ice cream, noodles. Bakery cakes looked superb but were sometimes not quite as tasty as they looked. Loved Alfredo’s on deck 6. Great pizza and veal tortellini. Drinks packages are available but you need to work out for yourself if they are worth it. We didn’t buy one. Plenty of places to sit and read, have a drink, or play games. Laundry facilities on are all decks 7-15 at rear of boat. Some are larger than others. Very easy to use as you swipe your ships card to buy tokens for washers and dryers and powder, bleach and dryer sheets. Could do with more dryers though as wash takes 30-35mins and dryers 40-45mins. Causing a backlog waiting for dryers. The ship itself is clean and quite pretty. Crooners lounge was always good for a quiet pre dinner drink. Crown Grill was more pub like and livelier. Did an English pub lunch on two occasions which we never tried. Hollywood adults area on deck 17 at front was relaxing. The pool and hot tubs were lovely. Lounge area lacking enough of the comfortable loungers. Smoking area is outside on 17 starboard and if you forgot and went out the wrong doors you got a face full of smoke. Main pool area is spacious but busy on a sunny day. Liked the skywalk. Overall the ship was well appointed and enjoyable and we would sail on her again. Crew were overall polite but not overly friendly like other cruises we have been on. Downside. Usual problems with finding a seat at certain entertainments. Atrium activities and Princess Theatre shows especially. Something needs to be done as some people were saying they had seen the early show and went again for the later show. This left people standing in the aisles which blocked those sitting at the back. Surely a ticketing system using your cruise card could be designed so you could only get in once unless there was space. Spoke to a staff member but felt I was being humoured. Another staff member did come and move those standing in our view. Would travel on this ship again. TAURANGA Ship actually docks at Mt Manganui so you need to get shuttle or taxi into Tauranga itself. Just walked off ship. Nice seaside area with good coffee shops. We walked to the top of Moturiki Island then had a coffee. This is main port for Hobbiton which we had done prior to cruise. WELLINGTON Went on free shuttle into town. Rode cable car to top of hill then walked down through Botanical gardens. Stopped for a cup of tea in the rose garden then had a stroll to Old St Pauls church then we caught shuttle bus back to ship after a short ride around Wellington. AKAROA You tender in at this port so allow time if you book a private tour. We had organised to ride a V8Trike with Marty. We did the 1hr ride which was great. We then had lunch in town, lovely fish and chips and green lip mussels. Very easy to walk around this small quaint town. DUNEDIN Unfortunately we did not make this port due to a fog bank which caused us to miss the tide to get into dock. FIORDLANDS Cruising through the three sounds on a beautiful sunny day was wonderful. The ship cruises one way through DUSKY and DOUBTFUL sounds then has to turn around in MILFORD sound. Meaning you see everything twice or everything from your balcony. HOBART We booked a ship shore excursion to Mt Wellington and the Botanic gardens. We had to clear customs here which held the tours up by a small amount of time. Whilst enjoyable and I thought good value for money, I felt hurried in the gardens and we lacked time on Mt Wellington. The tour was booked as Mt Wellington then Botanic Gardens and we planned to spend extra time at the gardens then make our own way back to the ship. This obviously didn’t happen as we did the gardens first. DAYS AT SEA are relaxing days or there was plenty going on if that is your choice. Read Less

We have been on more than 10 Princess cruises and this ship by far is the worst. Mini suite is so much smaller than on the older ships, had to move the table each time to be able to walk past the sofa. Balcony is so much smaller and not enough storage cupboards. Bed was also not as comfortable. We had set dining and the choices and quality of food was not as previous, usually cold and slow service due to the amount of tables waiters had to serve. Best food by far was room service, it was hot and tasty, usual options were available. Marketplace was always busy and passenger hygiene severely lacking, food aimed at Asian market. My husband and I caught a terrible cough in fact I had to be admitted to hospital upon my return as it turned into a chest infection. Ship too big, too many people and lack of walkway space. Would definitely not go on this or any of the other new ships Princess are building. Smaller and older ships so much better, I just hope that our cruise in September, which is on the Sapphire Princess, which we have been on before and loved, will make up for this extremely disappointing cruise. They provide the smoothest embarkation and disembarkation, the finest food on the sea, served by a dedicated and friendly crew. The staterooms are spacious well appointed and kept that way by a caring steward, always at hand to tend your every need. Entertainment is the best of any cruise ship, with highly talented musicians, singers, dancers and production staff to deliver world class productions. Shore excursions are carefully chosen to offer you the best days in port, offering local and extended tours to capture the essence of the area visited. Overall service and assistance during the cruise is a Princess tradition and the variety of activities provided, ensures a most enjoyable experience. Specialty restaurants are a feature and cover the tastes of all nations, with the finest ingredients, prepared by top chefs. there is something for everyone who boards a Princess ship. Read Less

Such a fantastic ship and the step up in quality from our previous provider was HUGE. I didn't think it would be that different from our previous cruises but it really was. The rooms were so much tidier and newer. The bed was very comfortable and the air con worked well. On previous cruises the air con didn't work which was horrid. Food was fabulous, outstanding in fact and we all put on weight lol. I think above all the dining staff were superb - they went above and beyond their duty each night and we really were grateful. We ate in the Symphony restaurant and recommend it highly. We had a meal in one of the specialty restaurants but we still preferred the Symphony. We thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment which was also a big step up from the previous provider we've used in the past. We would definitely recommend this ship over other providers of similar value. We were so impressed that we have booked two more cruises with this company. Read Less

We loved the itinerary, but were so disappointed to find that our excursion had been cancelled last minute by Princess with no offer to help replace it. So we were on our own in Wellington. Then the ship had a delay with fog in Dunedin and could not dock an hour later because the tides were too low for this immense ship. The one Princess excursion to Waitupo and Rainbow Springs that was not cancelled was excellent! We also loved the Milford Sound fiords day. The entertainment on the ship was also very good, with Magic, Encore, and musical productions. It’s important to get there at least 30 minutes ahead if you want a seat though. Restaurant service in Anytime Dining was good with Ferdie as our favorite waiter. We were also extremely frustrated with erroneous bar charges that took multiple trips to the desk over several days, along with phone calls. Each time we were assured that it was corrected only to find that was not true. ( We had ordered just two glasses of wine one night but were charged for six!). These were finally corrected just an hour before we debarked. All of this left a very bad taste with Princess! We have never experienced problems like this on other cruises including Norwegian, Holland America, Gate One, or Azamara. We have already scheduled future cruises with Azamara and Celebrity, and will probably not sail on a large Princess ship again. Read Less

We chose the cruise for the destination as we wanted to be in Sydney for the New Year Celebration and the cruise ended on December 30th. I was very disappointed in the Lotus Spa on this ship. I booked a 90 minute massage and upon my arrival was shown to the co-ed “relaxing” area. This was not a spa atmosphere - more like a doctor’s office waiting room. No nice bathrooms to relax in, not even in the treatment room. Totally co-ed. No free use of whirl pool, sauna or steam room, but you could buy a week pass for $199 to use them (The Enclave”). Was told by spa personnel that this ship wasn’t like the other Princess ship spas and they needed to control the amount of people using the spa whirlpool, etc and that is why they charged for them. However, the message was wonderful! Just wish I could have relaxed before my message. Felt very disappointed about that. Hollywood Pool Club was Adult only, no charge and it was lovely. Very relaxing and serene and no charge. I just chose to lounge and read a book. We did pay extra for Club Class but did enjoy not having to wait at all for a table for anytime dining. It was really nice to have a special section reserved for Club Class. The waiters were phenomenal! We sailed over Christmas and felt that they did a wonderful job with Christmas decorations and celebrating Christmas. Christmas Carols were sung and everyone joined in. On Christmas morning Santa appeared in the atrium and had a gift for every child under 12 yrs. Every child got to take pictures with Santa and his helpers. It’s a beautiful ship but felt crowded in the corridor the public areas. Personally, too big of a ship for me. Will definitely use Princess again but will sail on the smaller ships. Our ages are 59-65. Read Less

We chose this cruise to experience a reasonably new ship and to have a Christmas at sea. We overnighted in Auckland before going down to Princes Wharf about midday on the 18th. Our bags were whisked away in a flash and we then presented ourselves at Check In. As we were the first deck to load we were on the ship around 1230hrs and got our first look at the Atrium all decked out for Christmas with Carolers preparing to welcome all with Christmas cheer, We decided on a quick visit to our stateroom to dump our carryon luggage and then head off for lunch at the World Fresh Marketplace on deck 16, There was plenty to select from and we were soon replete and off to our Mini Suite (R210) on Riveria Deck (14) to unpack and meet our Stateroom Attendant Johner who looked after us very well throughout the cruise. The cruise itself was everything we expected it to be and more. (Snow in the Atrium during Christmas Carols, lovely food all over the ship, friendly helpful staff everywhere and what a beautiful ship decked out in her Christmas finery). She is indeed a beautiful ship but some small things puzzled us, like no wrap around Promenade Deck (deck 7), having to jog into and then out of the Sports court as you do laps and more could be done with the mini golf greens to make them interesting. The trek from the front of the ship to the Allegro Dining Room requires the use of more than one deck as there is no way to walk the length of the ship on deck 6. (where the Concerto and Allegro dining rooms are located). Still good for the digestion I guess. These things should not detract from the ship as a whole. She is indeed a Majestic Princess. We were located in the Allegro dining room (Tradional Dining) and were looked after by Elvie and Roy. Elvie is the consumate professional. She is vivacious and funny and we didn't just eat there; we were entertained and enjoyed every moment of it. Roy is a shy young man, but very friendly and efficient and looked after us well. They were a great team. As for our Stateroom it was excellent even for three people. The only small problem was that the curtains which divide the room didn't mearly meet in the middle. It was kept clean and tidy throughout the cruise. The entertainment on this cruise was absolutely first class, from the shows in the Princess Theater, the entertainment in the Atrium and of course the other bars and showrooms although we didn't spend much time in these. The Cruise Director was efficient, funny and had the ships entertainment running like clockwork. He even ran a Christmas Church service which was well attended. I think this is all I need to say about this cruise. I do however have to mention the disembarkation in Sydney. It was smooth, rapid and we were in a Taxi heading for our accommodation in a most timely manner. Top points for this. Read Less

This cruise was our 'move-over' cruise from 2016, so we were upgraded to a Club Class Mini Suite. We combined this with the New Year cruise so had 25 days aboard the Majestic! We have been on many New Zealand Australia cruises, so for us the ship was the destination. We also had the pleasure of cruising with friends we met on the Diamond in 2010, plus introduce another friend to the pleasure of cruising. Embarkation was easy, although dropping off the luggage in the morning was a mission due to the traffic on the wharf. Also dropped off our Aussie friends at the same time (11am), who boarded and they were in their cabin before DH got home (12 kms away!) When we embarked it was fast and smooth. Ship: Lovely new ship with a slightly weird layout due to being configured to the Chinese Market. Same layout as Royal and Regal but some areas used differently. Found it easy to get our bearings and the electronic signage all over the ship was great. Vines became our pre-dinner hangout (with tapas provided) and Crooners our after dinner spot, and before and after shows as it was adjacent to the lower access to the Princess Theatre. TIP: wheelchair and walker users - there are areas on the lower level of the Theatre where you could sit and be in close proximity to the stage, which was wonderful. Cabin B433 - Accessible Club Class Mini Suite Lovely large cabin with angled balcony which was sheltered because of the forward decks being further out. Heaps of space and heaps of storage. Has a pullman bed and large pull out sofa (great for a family of four). Hardly saw the steward and the service did not seem to be any more than a standard cabin. Dining: Dined a couple of times in Club Class and then gave up as no one seemed to share and our friends were Anytime Dining, so joined them instead. BUT dined there each day for breaststroke as there was always a queue and we could go straight in without waiting. Service was amazing. Menu no different to the other MDRs. Entertainment: Great shows and entertainers. Went to all but a few, usually to the late show as it was easier and less crowded. Crooners and Vines: Barman were fantastic - great service and great fun. Crown Grill - wouldn't bother again as the atmosphere was missing and frankly the meal no better than the MDR La Mer - wonderful (try and get a window seat). Food amazing and so was the service. Our gluten free friend was well catered for. Alfredos - great Pizza and fantastic desserts. Sometimes there was a queue and a wait time on the pizza but that was no biggie. Read Less

This is only the sixth cruise of my lifetime (on five different lines) and it was easily the best of the lot - to say nothing of the tremendous value it represented versus Regent et al. Even if all six cruises had identical prices, this cruise would have earned first place by a wide margin. The ship, itself, is so new and well-maintained that it spoiled us with its finishes and amenities. Embarkation was truly efficient and we never felt there were 3500 guests and another 1500 staff. It always was so spacious - a genuine achievement. The staff was a tremendous blend from around the world - Antonio from Portugal did a yeoman's job as our cabin steward and Monika in guest services lounge was priceless to us in terms of helping secure meal reservations for our difficult party of 7. Room service in the mornings was unbelievably precise and prompt - the best we've ever experienced. Great amenities for the kids and teens (of which there were many on this Christmas Cruise). Our captains (one from NZ and one from Italy) did a tremendous job with the seas and we had the smoothest sailing I can remember. Our day in the Fjords and Milford Sound was one of the most rewarding, sunniest and relaxing days I will ever live. Harmony Restaurant (and expecially Caesar) won our hearts for the extraordinary menu, service and ambience. Crown Grill was the best team on the ship - Dennis at the front and Jaron from Serbia - best waiter anywhere on the ship. The Concerto and Symphony dining experiences were average in terms of both food quality and inattentive service (mostly from inexperienced, young Eastern European servers). La Mer was a standout experience until that music starts to play in La Piazza below and any opportunity for a civilized experience goes out the window. The music on the ship was uniformly bad (the open La Piazza is a genuine problem for programming) and the 'program staff' was an odd group with an over-inflated sense of self-importance, but they could not detract from this extraordinary experience and the truly flawless itinerary. One significant disappointment was that tidal levels significantly shortened our visits at every port and as my family was strictly doing independent shore excursions, we were under outrageous pressure throughout the cruise to return under the shortened time frames. There was always a tour that arrived after the ship was already to have departed (according to the posted 'All Aboard' time) during this particular sailing. Leaving from Auckland, sailing Milford Sound, visiting Tasmania and Melbourne and arriving in Sydney (at Circular Quay, no less) is a simply flawless itinarary. Christchurch, Dunedin and Rotarua are all brillint spots to visit and pre- and post- tours in Auckland and Syndey are not to be missed. This itinerary is a 5 out of 5 and being onboard with mostly Kiwis and Aussies made the trip especially pleasant for us, as Americans who are not accustomed to such polite colleagues. Read Less

I want to share some very good aspects and some not so good issues. Start with the good then bad and finish with the ugly. The good was the buffet, Hamburger grill, fitness center, and some of the service. The bad was one of our shore excursions "The Train Ride" to no where and stop at stops of nothingness ( it was a waste of money and a wasted day). The ugly is what I call it when you go to the service desk three to four times to get information or fix an issue and receive different advice or information every time from a different representative. We had the same issue with the activity crew in trying to do a simple activity such as volleyball. (little help and different answer when you did talk to the activity crew). If I was to sum up what the cruise was like is to say "This one is for retired people." Read Less
