For my 75th birthday, I took three generations of my family to enjoy a cruise over Christmas and New Years of 2020. I could not imagine that the actual experience would be as wonderful and beautiful as the PBS Ads! It was! Every step of the journey was so easy and so well organized that I simply floated through a blissful two weeks of paradise. Each crew member from the Captain to the bathroom attendant was simply a charming person with whom I enjoyed learning about our Ship and our ports of call. Everyone was so eager to assist in any way - one afternoon our Captain carried my coffee to a comfortable spot to sit while I dodled with my cane and book. Our tour through the Mediterranean allowed my whole family to see ports we would never otherwise visit and helped my younger folks decide on which cities they would like to revisit. Although we all did quite a bit of reading about the ports before our departure, the guest lecturers (and their replay on the tv in our suite - genius idea) were so interesting and such a better use of time and entertainment than sad "Broadway" shows on other tours! Since most ports were new stops, we generally did the included tour for our ports and everyone agreed the experience was perfect. I stuck to the "easy" tours and found them to be a bit more effort than my definition of easy! I could never have done these tours without much family support. Our repeated visits to the spa was another slice of heaven. Massages and facials were all delightful and the private women's spa with sauna and cold plunge was lovely - I am not one for spa-ing with the co-ed experience! Because of the Holidays, my 21 year old grandson had plenty of young people to visit; however, I so enjoyed a more mature group of travelers. Looking like the ultimate grandmother, I am often sat next to young families with screaming toddlers - no such worries on Viking! Elegant is one word to best describe the entire journey. I did return home to the Midwest and announce that I am no longer taking long journeys. Our return from Barcelona was 30+ hours of traveling. Exhausting, even in Business Class, but I am so very glad that I topped the cake of my years of travel with this life long dream. Bon Voyage to you and yours. Read Less

I've always wanted to see Greece and this price was wonderful. The tours were handled so well. Tour guides were very knowledgeable and handled my millions of questions with patience. I would recommend this tour to anyone. We had one day at sea that was rough but we survived it okay. The Christmas decorations were very tasteful on the ship. The food was superb. I loved the fact that I could try lots of different items and did not have to clean my plate or feel too full. We could order 24/7 room service which was so nice. I liked the fact we had time at each place for a little walk on our own. I very much liked the shopping on board. The onboard shopping was something to look forward to each day one hour after the ship sailed. If I did it again, I would add on a few extra days either in the beginning or at the end. I sure liked being on an adult cruise. Most folks were our age. Read Less

51st Wedding Anniversary trip for the most wonderful girl in the world. The Viking Sky is a beautiful vessel. The room stewards were very friendly and efficient, although we did lose our first steward because he was selected for the Round the World cruise and sent home on leave to be with his family before the extended voyage (the best of the best!). ( I showed him his home on Bali using Google Maps satellite imagery and we became friends.) Food service was excellent and we used the World Cafe for most meals- the staff and food selections fit us better then the other venues, and the ice cream and chocolate cookies were beyond description. We particularly enjoyed the Port Call briefings and the art, history lectures. The Met's "Aida" opera was a great delight and a pleasant surprise. Our off-ship tours were excellent, the Rhodes tour guide was especially good. The three Israel tours (Old City & Modern Jerusalem, Jerusalem and Bethlehem, and Nazareth & the Sea of Galilee) brought us both a sense of wonder at the Life of Christ and his time and place. were particularly outstanding. A port change from Ashdod to Haifa resulted in our included tour taking longer than originally planned, but a meal was provided off-ship, proving the logistics staff at Viking was on top of events. Oh yes, seeing Stromboli erupt during the night passage to Naples was a highlight of the voyage. Read Less

The localized and exploring these anciant sites brought a lot of history into docs and added materially to out understanding. Guides were very knowledgeable and informative. Particularly in Israel we were treated to a perspective from the guides which cannily come from natives. The cruise was without incident and delivered with the class we expect from Viking. Food and beverages were exceptional! We traveled with a grout of 11 and ask to be served together for the evening meal. WOW! . Impeccable service and great food made the evening meal a long event which was the highlight of the trip. The staff went out of their way to make us feel like home! Our cruise was over Veterans Day and the crew put on a special ceremony in the theater acknowledging Veterans Day......and Remembrance Day! It really made the day special. Also the Captain hosted a happy hour honoring all veterans board! Again above and beyond! So having such a good time.....we booked 2 more cruises while on board. This was our first ocean Viking Cruise and while considerably different from the river cruises we really enjoyed it! Read Less

Our experience with Viking includes 4 prior river trips, so we wanted to try the ocean and see how it compared. For those Viking Veterans who have come to expect a certain standard of service and comfort during river voyages, the ocean (at least on Star) will not disappoint: the ship is clean and well maintained (in fact the crew are often seen working at various maintenance tasks during the cruise); the staterooms are small (as on all ships) but comfortable and the staff are very conscientious and professional in maintaining a clean and serviceable cabin; both the food and service on board are excellent and certainly meet the Viking standards; for my experience, the entertainment aboard was superb, although I must confess I spent most of my time sampling the musical offerings in the Explorer Lounge and sampling the libations (which were also excellent). The major difference between ocean and river cruising is the ocean ports are usually at some distance from the attractions one wants to see, so bus rides (often lengthy) and such are required, whereas on the river the Longships stop in the heart of the city and it is (not always but) usually an easy walk from the ship to points of interest. If you're not prepared for this difference it can be a bit of a distraction from the experience. The excursions were generally good-to-great with a couple of exceptions and that owing to the quality/fluency of the guides - I think Viking missed a couple of real opportunities for interesting excursions but one can't expect them to cover all the possibilities. Overall a superior effort and great value for money. Read Less

Lack of bonhomie among most staff towards passengers, more interested in talking among themselves than interacting with passengers. We got blank stares when asking questions, sometimes a scowl at buffet, missing servers at stations. Felt like we were on training cruise. Entertainment people were lovely. They had many jobs, performed all well, among only ones on board who actually did. The spa was the best thing on ship. My husband & I enjoyed the ice room & cold water bucket. Food was average & boring. Many of the same items in buffet every evening. Specialty restaurants not very special although wait staff was very nice. Oceania is a far better cruise line. All staff were exceedingly friendly & knew everyone’s name within a couple of days. Managed to make a Passover Seder in the middle of the Ocean but Viking couldn’t manage to get an American Mahjongg set in Israel. Won’t travel with them again. Read Less

Let's start with the great.... the entertainment was off the charts, much superior to any other cruise we have taken, all STELLAR! Embarkation and debarkation were organized and a breeze. The food and service was best in the specialty restaurant Sabatinnis. If you love Italian food, don't miss it. There were plenty of choices in the Speciality restaurants and although we did not try them all, we heard from other guests that they were all excellent. Elevators did not accommodate the massive numbers of guest and wait time was long. Be careful with shore excursions which are not created equal. Also, when you pick an excursion that includes your meal, you give up your ability to pick a great restaurant and are forced to a prix fix that was menza mens. That should not happen when you have one day in Italy.... a slice of chicken breast would not have been my pick. All in all, it was probably the best week of my life, perfect weather and magnificent Ports helped. The most difficult part was leaving. Read Less

I'll start by saying we travel a lot, but aren't "cruise people". We've only been on one other cruise. Most of our travel is self-booked, no groups, tours, etc. That said, we were looking to do something out of the ordinary and special for our 35th anniversary cruise, and had our sights set on exploring a few greek islands. After looking at options including cruises, flights, and water taxis, we decided on the 3-night Celestyal Olympia cruise. We figured that if it didn't agree with us, 3 nights would be OK. We liked the smattering taste-test of the islands, and we liked that two excursions were included. Embarkation was a breeze for us, but read the cabin details for possible explanation. Yes, the ship is old, but it's been refurbished quite nicely. It was perhaps a little nicer than expected. I think we had 1,000 passengers, so quite a bit under capacity. That may have helped with things for our cruise. Staff was exemplary! Every single staff member we interacted with was just so nice and helpful. There were no exceptions to this: from the Master (captain), who told us how to find our room (we didn't know who he was at the time), to the people who gave out towels as we came back aboard, 100% of them were just great. The food was better than expected. We like greek food, but were certainly not limited to that. The Texas BBQ night was superbly executed and very popular. Entertainment was OK, but we didn't really pursue that at all. We really enjoyed both of the included excursions in Turkey and Crete! A lot. Really added value for us. We did not book any other excursions. Yes, some of the island stays are very brief, but we knew that going in. They were long enough to learn where we might want to return some day. Getting off the boat for island visits seemed very organized to us, and went smoothly. Again, some of this was due to our cabin selection. We learned that people who booked excursions got off first (!), then cabins by rank/number, then people who were staying at the location (not getting back on the boat). We didn't even look at any other excursions, so I don't know what the options or cost were, but worth considering if you want to get off the boat first. Lastly, I should mention I was fighting a nasty kidney stone the entire cruise, and it really compromised my ability to enjoy food, drink, and a couple of the excursions. This is no reflection on Celestyal at all; on the contrary, the staff were very understanding and supportive of my situation. Read Less

We wanted a cruise of the Greek Islands and the Infinity has a wonderful itinerary to see the islands as well as Israel. The ports of call were exactly what we were looking for. Israel was a very good stop and if anyone were to ask me I would say Israel is very safe and well worth visiting. It was the itinerary that brought us to Infinity. I have sailed two other Celebrity ships the Summit and Equinox. Sadly the Infinity is not the equal of her sister ships. Both ships always rank in the top 10 in all categories. While the infinity is comfortable she is showing her age. The rooms and public areas are very clean even if the passengers are not leaving trash there instead of finding a receptacle for their discard. Crew does an excellent job of keeping her clean. I would not say don't sail on her as the ports of call are perfect. I have one major complaint about 1 of the ships crew. The DJ who provides recorded music around the martini bar believes that the passengers on the ship are 20 or 30 somethings and insists on playing the music in the area too loud. In four separate days I tried to get the music turned down so that one did not have to yell to be heard while enjoying their martini. I spoke to the bar tender and he accommodated that was one day. The next day the DJ was there and I spoke to him in a very calm and logical way and while he did turn down the volume he seemed to be insulted that I made that request. On another day I found a senior ship officer and complained to him about the arrogance of the DJ who worked that station. He said he would address it. On the fourth occasion the DJ was again there and again I requested the volume be lowered. Again he didn't care for my request but turned the volume down. Clearly he did not understand that the passengers pay his salary and the voice of the cruiser should speak volumes to him. While this crew member was not interested in the passengers comfort I have to say the head bartender at the martini bar was the best bartender I have ever had on a Celebrity ship. He was so attentive and accommodating giving us one of the finer moments of our cruise. Every afternoon we enjoyed our own happy hour at the martini bar. After two days he knew what we drank and with in moments of arriving at a seat had our drinks ready. He knew we always had two each night and when we finished our first he was ready with our second. It was wonderful. His service is typical of the Celebrity crew not like the DJ. Our cabin steward was also accommodating. I had two small issues with the room and one was a physical adjustment and he had it corrected by dinner time. It required the maintenance staff make the adjustment. Happy with the attention. I hear that they ruined the martini bar on the new ship the Edge. The location of the bar is poor and the allocated room is too small. Celebrity martini bar is one of our favorite features of the cruise line. It is a shame that their focus group didn't give Celebrity the correct input for the Edge martini bar. I hope they don't refresh the ships and ruin the martini bar in the process and any new ships they don't do what they did to the Edge. CruCon booked our arrangements. While other travel agents would not pass on savings that Celebrity was offering CruCon did and it was significant. I will always book with CruCon the best in the business. Read Less

Our cabin on both ships was fabulous, really roomy and great bathrooms. We loved the selection of dining and ate at The Thomas Kellar when we were able, Could not fault the crew, always very happy and there for our enjoyment, ports and shore excurtions also great. We don't think it is a ship for children as there is nothing for them to do, which is another reason we chose Seabourn and have told so many of our friends all of the wonderful treats on board. The ship was very modern and very clean. Judi and Alan Read Less

Having loved our Viking River Cruise in 2017, we decided to try the Viking Ocean Cruise. So glad we did. Everything about the ship and the crew was exceptional. The atmosphere, the food, wine, shore excursions, on board activities, it was all marvelous. With only 930 passengers, one never felt crowded and we never had to wait for a table or any type of service. The crew was super professional, courteous and friendly. They helped to create an atmosphere wherein it was easy to make friends with fellow passengers. The cabin design was streamlined and gave a sense of space. Having all cabins with balconies is a huge bonus. Having room service breakfast on our balcony a couple of time was a lovely luxury. The staff in all the restaurants, bars and spa were fabulous. We attended several shows, all of which were fun and entertaining. We have already booked our next Viking Ocean cruise and can't wait for it. Thank you Viking! Read Less

Recommendation from friends. The ship was clean and efficient. The staff were truly great - responsive and polite. The food was excellent at Manfreds but could only get a reservation one night - very disappointing. Some meals at The Restaurant were good and others not so - for example, Sword Fish over cooked. The public places on board were very comfortable. The optional excursions were great. The optional Silver Beverage Package was well worth it. The cabin Stewart, Josephine, was so good. So was Jean Paul at The Restaurant. We used the Explorers’ Lounge a lot and found it so comfortable and the service excellent. We particularly enjoyed the guitarist. When we book another cruise we will use Viking again - smaller ship, no children, no casino, etc. we are considering a river cruise, particularly the Danube. Thanks to the crew of the Viking Star for such a pleasant experience. Read Less

The locations seemed to improve as we headed north. The food was outstanding and the daily wine choices were great. We should have taken more advantage of the onboard entertainment. The crew were outstanding. They were very attentive and funny. We appreciate their efforts and service. The excursions were great we did upgrade a few. The history and culture were amazing. Great cultural enrichment and wine! We overpacked. Having the onboard washers and dryers were great to recycle and bring less. We recommend being self aware as a traveler. Greek Island Cruise was on my Wife's bucket list. We had previously been on a Viking River Cruise. Athens was a surprise and disappointment. Dirty, run down. Mixture of fine dining to cafeteria type dining. Entertainment and Activities - Did not partake in any. Service - Service was excellent through out the ship. A special thumbs up to Wayan, our cabin steward. Ports and Shore Excursions - A variety of ports and shore excursions, The Olympic excursion was very interesting. We had an experienced guide. She had a vast knowledge of the area and culture. Our major disappointment was the Island of Santorini. We bypassed this Island for safety reasons. Due to windy conditions and rough seas, we couldn't be tendered in.. It was one of the main reasons we took this particular cruise and we didn't get to enjoy this Island. We chose this cruise for the ports that it was stopping at. We also liked the amenities and class of the cruise. We enjoyed the club class dining. Our servers Jelana, Ryan, Iris and Bazvan were the BEST! We always asked to sit at their station and enjoyed their company immensely. The saw to our every gastro need and gave excellent tips on what to order. They really added to our vacation enjoyment! We took 2 of the cruise excursions which were both extremely well run. The guides were very knowledgable. We tried to sign up for some tours in Marseille but they were canceled. I liked Paulos who gave tips on the ports during the sea days. We loved the Sanctuary. It was a quiet and relaxing way to spend the afternoon. The servers were all very friendly and accommodating, waiting on for every need. We really liked the evening shows in the Princess theater, especially the dance themes like the 70's disco. The activities during the day seemed geared more for older people. Too much pushing of the anti-wrinkle, burn fat seminars at the spa. Also we would have liked more lounge chairs available in the shade around the pool. We liked that there was not too much loud music around the pool. Liked the band that played periodically at the pool in the evening. The shuttles to town should not have a cost attached. When you pay $8000 for a cruise, you expect that it will bring you to the actual place that is listed on the itinerary, not have to pay $15 pounds to get you there. We chose this particular cruise to work with a trip to the UK that we were taking before the August 12th departure date. Celestial was the only one that worked. The Greek island stops were amazing. Santorini, Mykonos and Kusadaski were absolutely gorgeous. There are several stops that were two days and that was too long. You’ll be shopped out after one day. That said I would not repeat this cruise. The negatives were of the ship. Smaller ship with small areas to gather. The ship staff was very courteous and extremely friendly. The only pool is super tiny and this pool area also serves as one of the places to eat. The food on board was marginal at best. The quality of the two buffets and the two al a cart restaurants were bad. Selections and quality were not good. For the price of the cruise the food was not to what we expected or experienced on other cruise lines. The price includes drinks but the list is limited on what is free. The cocktails were poorly mixed and even buying top shelf did not help with the case of a margarita. The last thing I’ll mention is that we’re from the U.S. and the majority of passengers were from counties like Iran and Turkey so we did get several cold shoulder treatments from these passengers. Just one persons opinion. Hope this helps. Read Less

We have done Viking River Cruises and they have been very nice. Thought we would like to try the ocean and weren't disappointed. The itinerary was also a draw as we hadn't been to these places. Hard to say what I liked best so I will just leave it that the 'package' was marvelous. Food, service, décor, excursions were all outstanding. We didn't eat in one of the reservation only dining areas but the others were so good! I quickly found that three desserts with each meal was perfectly okay. I also did the afternoon tea and it was great. A room service breakfast started the day right. Our cabin steward was so nice and by the morning after we embarked knew our names. I enjoyed sitting in the public rooms listening to music and having a drink in the afternoon. Things were tasteful and not overdone and quiet. No bands blaring at the pool! We had very knowledgeable guides for all excursions and learned a lot. It was hot but that is normal for the area in August. Too bad there isn't a rating higher than 5. I wanted to revisit Greece and the Adriatic (Dalmation) coast, The food was consistently excellent in the buffet ( World Cafe) as well as Manfredi's and Chef's Table restaurants. We had absolutely no problems scheduling the special restaurants, even after boarding the ship (although I recommend that you do so as soon as possible after boarding). The drinks were well prepared by professional bar tending staff. We made use of the land excursions wherever possible, and the tour guides in each locale were courteous, knowledgeable and helpful. The positive aspect of this trip were the ability to learn as well as to enjoy the locales, like Corfu, Montenegro, Dubrovnik and Venice without rushing (although each daily agenda was filled without much dead time). We loved the fact that our ship was not too large or overpopulated (only about 978 passengers max). Ever stop from embarkation to disembarkation was perfectly handled by Viking from a logistical standpoint (in other words, there is no way for a person of average intelligence to get lost unless you are one of those arrogant, entitled people who think you can do do things on your own time frame while inconveniencing other passengers...unfortunately, we met a couple of those on our last night of the cruise. Although we have traveled extensively in Europe, we had never been to Greece. We chose this cruise because of the variety of countries we would visit. We had been on a Viking River cruise the year before and were very impressed with Viking. The food is great and the service is wonderful. A shout out to Madi, our cabin assistant, who made it such a smooth trip. We had a sticky sliding door and it was fixed the first day. The food was fantastic. On the River cruise you have to eat in the dinning room. Even though you can order how much you want, you are still limited to the menu. On the Ocean cruise, we loved the Cafe. They served the same food as the restaurant, but you could get small plates of everything. I could get a choice of 5 appetizers, 5 salads, 5 desserts. With the small portions, you could try a little of everything. And as much gelato as you want. The wine selection on this cruise was excellent. We have been very pleased with the included tours that Viking provides. They are usually walking tours of the cities and the guides have been excellent. We did purchase a few additional tours. The Minoan ruins and wine tasting in Santorini, the expanded tour of Corfu, and the Caves in Slovenia, Church of the Rocks in Montenegro. All were worth the money. We didn’t know how beautiful Kotor Montenegro would be. It would have been worth getting up early to see the view sailing into port. Our next Viking trip is in May 2021 from Amsterdam to Bergen Norway. My only disappointment is that I have to wait until then as it is a new cruise. I’m ready to hop on the. Boat right now. Read Less

We always wanted to see the beauty of the Greek islands. We were not disappointed. As starters, the Viking Star Ocean cruise ship was charming with its many alcoves for sitting and visiting with friends. The meals and service were beyond reproach. We found our experience on the Viking Star to be the most relaxing cruise we have ever been on. Embarkation and disembarkation was easy and went very smooth. Our rooms were ready for us as soon as we embarked upon the ship. Due to the hurricane winds and twenty foot seas at Santorini, our Captain made the decision that it was not safe for the passengers to board the "ships tenders" to go offshore. Sadly, we set sail for out next shore stop. The walking shore excursions were just the right length of time and distance. Each floor had a laundry room with free washing machines, dryers, irons and ironing boards. Laundry detergent was dispensed automatically. We found this laundry service very helpful We look forward to sailing with Viking Cruise lines again. Read Less

We like Viking because when we check out at the end of the cruise we don't have a huge bill to pay for wine, sodas, bottled water, spa, laundry and shore excursions. The ship is light and bright and cheery. We'll layed out and functional. All cabins have a balcony and a shower instead of a bathtub... which we prefer. There is a laundry room on each level and soap and fabric softener is included and the machines are free. My only complaint is not being able to make reservations for the regular dining room. We have found it not as well organized as the Table and Manfreds. No one under 18 is allowed on the cruise. So adults can actually use the pool. Also the pre and post additions to the Viking cruises are very organized and well run. Otherwise everything is done well on the Viking cruises we have been on. We already have 3 more cruises book with Viking in the next 2 years. Read Less
