We chose this cruise because we loved the Riverboat cruise that we took back in 2017 and though we would try the ocean line. The food and service was amazing -- rooms were lovely -- and I enjoyed the free wi-fi The entertainment is geared to an older crowd - there wasn't enough entertainment and with a lot of wasted space on the ship -- I felt there should have been more to choose from. Spent most of my time watching TV in the room. One of the most popular ports was missed due to weather -- not the ships fault -- but we didn't get any extra time at any other port -- The included excursions were very boring and the timing left you with no time to do any other ones -- which was extremely disappointing - because the included excursions with the Riverboat cruise were amazing -- Finally we traveled with a group of people -- which 6 of us was escorted to the airport when it was time to leave -- but the last person traveling with us was told to leave an hour past us - then was just left to find her own way to the airport - having to take a train and a bus - not knowing where she was going and was extremely upset -- In closing - I will never travel with Viking Ocean line again - This was the most I have ever paid for a vacation and was left very underwhelmed Read Less

I was on the Aegean Sea cruise for 6 nights, boarding on August 26 in Athenas and disembarking in Kusadassi on September 1, 2019. My experience was excellent, a beautiful trip, an excellent itinerary, which includes two nights in Santorini. The boat staff is excellent, the attention in the restaurant is incredible, especially by the waiters Abel, Arturito and Mario. The rest of the staff in the disco, theater, etc., the service was friendly & excellent too. The entertainment group is great (they are Cuban), which make you feel every night as if you were in a show in Las Vegas. The cleanliness of the room was very good, thanks to Ernesto and his work partner. Very good the boat that is small and somewhat old. However, they must renew the rooms a bit. And the only thing that is not good, is that breakfast is until 10:30 am and then lunch begins at 12:30 pm. If you wake up late and cannot go to lunch at breakfast time, you have no more food until 12:30 pm, The director of the cruise should consider having a buffet for those two hours. Otherwise I recommend this cruise. Read Less

We chose this particular cruise to work with a trip to the UK that we were taking before the August 12th departure date. Celestial was the only one that worked. The Greek island stops were amazing. Santorini, Mykonos and Kusadaski were absolutely gorgeous. There are several stops that were two days and that was too long. You’ll be shopped out after one day. That said I would not repeat this cruise. The negatives were of the ship. Smaller ship with small areas to gather. The ship staff was very courteous and extremely friendly. The only pool is super tiny and this pool area also serves as one of the places to eat. The food on board was marginal at best. The quality of the two buffets and the two al a cart restaurants were bad. Selections and quality were not good. For the price of the cruise the food was not to what we expected or experienced on other cruise lines. The price includes drinks but the list is limited on what is free. The cocktails were poorly mixed and even buying top shelf did not help with the case of a margarita. The last thing I’ll mention is that we’re from the U.S. and the majority of passengers were from counties like Iran and Turkey so we did get several cold shoulder treatments from these passengers. Just one persons opinion. Hope this helps. Read Less

We had cruised with Viking River Cruises and wanted to have an equally memorable experience while visiting Greece, Montenegro, Croatia, and Slovenia. We are so glad we chose Viking for this cruise. Our room aboard the Viking Store was very comfortable and we had excellent WiFi coverage while onboard the ship. The various dining rooms and lounges were beautiful and the staff was very attentive to our wants and needs. We were very pleased with our guides in the various ports we visited and we loved the excursions that we had selected prior to the trip. We would advise others to take the tour of the excavation site of Akrotiri on the island of Santorini; it is amazing how far advanced that civilization from 4,000 years ago was! We also thoroughly enjoyed the music made by the waves hitting the sea wall at Zadar, as well as the tour which took us to Lake Bled where we viewed the Dolomite Mountains and the turquoise waters caused by the limestone. The onboard entertainment was excellent; we looked forward to the shows provided by talented, young musicians. We did not sign up for this cruise with family members or friends, but people on the excursions were very friendly and we learned a lot from the people we met. We liked the cruise so much that we have signed up for two more Viking Ocean cruises--one in the British Isles and another in the Western Mediterranean. Read Less

We were interested in visiting the ancient ruins in Athens, Petra, and Luxor. The Silversea pre and post cruise Hotels were were excellent. We enjoyed the Muse. There were things we really liked and a couple of things that need attention. We liked the room design. We did not like the black oily soot that came out of the smokestacks and covered the deck and furniture on the back outdoor seating. Soiled lots of cloths before we discovered it. I thought it strange that when my wife and I arrived to eat at the Indochine restaurant I was asked to go get a jacket before I could enter, I went back to room and returned to enter when I noticed eight men in the restaurant who hung their jackets on the chair and were wearing bluejeans and sneakers. Jason told me I only need the jacket to enter but then I could remove it. Quite a poor policy and not consistently applied. Read Less

Last September, my husband and I sailed for the first time on the Silversea Whisper. In the past we had sailed with other companies and we decided to try this one due to the good opinions that had come to us by different ways. Unfortunately we have to say that the "exceptional experience" Silversea longs to offer is not what we had. When you travel on a luxury cruise you expect “luxury” and of course you pay for that. Anyway, let´s start with the positives. Embarkation and disembarkation were great. The stateroom was spacious and well designed with a walk in storage closet. The beds were comfortable. Butler service was ok although we could not find the utility of that service. There were several Spanish speaking in the crew very pleased to always help us. But that’s it. The food was very ordinary, not what you expect for a six star, expensive cruise. The buffet lunch was disappointing. Nothing tasted of anything. Nightly dinner meals were boring and simple. Service was friendly but very slow. The house wines were cheap and nasty. The entertainment was dreadful. It consisted of the same people singing “Voices of Silversea” It became very boring very quickly. We did not know that luxury was at odds with fun. Dress code outdated. Wake up, this is 2018 not “Gone with the wind” times. For two nights when the sea was a little choppy there was loud noises throughout the night which sounded like machinery moving so we could not get some sleep. But the worst was yet to come and that happened two nights before the end of the cruise. We had a reservation for dinner at the Grill and it was a windy night so plastic curtains were semi-open o completely closed. While we waited to be attended which took a long time, a passenger next to us wanted to close all of them. We did not agree because was to hot due to the ceiling heaters. At that point the mention passenger got up and started to close the ones near us. Faced with our protest the Maître was unable to solve the problem allowing the aforementioned passenger to impose his criteria without taking into account our own and this motivated our immediate departure from the place. We complained at the reception desk and went to the main dining room where the Maitre apologized for the incident. But up to day no one on behalf of Silversea has addressed us in a formal way to present their apologies. We missed the so called “impeccable hospitality” of the Silversea. Consequently we are very disappointed and Silversea will not be our next option. Read Less

Hi All, My trip Aug 27th from Athens on the Crystal 7 Day Idyllic Aegean Cruise was beyond what I expected. With only 476 cabins this makes for a nice intimate group with no line ups. The extra pluses like all inclusive drinks, free tours and no tipping quickly made this my top favorite cruise of all time. The guests themselves were 40-75 age group comprised mostly of Canadians and Europeans. No language barrier at all as the staff for the most part are fluent in 5 languages. Very few children which does not exclude families but there is not a huge children's program and the sheer amount of walking and exploring would be difficult for kids or seniors with mobilty issues. Having said that the ship herself does accommodate physically challenged passengers. The food was superb with a la carte and buffet style options. We had a pre reserved table every night and we loved getting to know the staff. The food was international style with a North American flair and every meal was different and presented in the most elegant way. They do offer upgraded menu items like Lobster and select wines but we didn't feel the need to upgrade. I can not say enough about the hard working and friendly staff. By day 2 they knew us by name and we were always greeted in a friendly way. The cabins were spotlessly cleaned and had all the special touches you would find on any other larger cruise ship. Towel service, turn down service, cute towel animals and chocolate on the pillows. Our cabin was a large picture window which was lovely arriving in each port. I would have upgraded to balcony except there were none to book last minute. The best thing about this cruise is that it actually overnights in many of the Greek ports which give guests a chance to experience day and nightlife without having to rush to get back on ship. It was great to be able to explore these destinations on our own. The tours were amazing and very informative, especially Turkey which was a wonderful surprise as we were slightly nervous about going there. At no time did we ever feel any port or locals were dangerous. Of course there were lots of vendors selling their wares and for the most part they were ready to bargain and the clothing, jewelry and trinkets were truly authentic. I would not travel in August again just due to the thousands and thousands of tourists in each port every day plus the heat which was in excess of 38C every day. I would highly recommend this cruise to any of our valued customers and do recommend a few pre/post nights to unwind before the cruise. I will be telling anyone who is willing to listen how fantastic this experience was. Read Less

We were looking for a cruise to the Middle East and had traveled with Viking on a river cruise. Their itinerary most closely matched our plans. The ship, its amenities, the crew were all outstanding. The excursions had a few bumps — it’s a difficult region for problem free visits, and the August weather temperatures were very challenging. The guides were well prepared and knowledgeable; there was a good selection of both included and optional tours, but logistics were complicated. I would have enjoyed more evening entertainment on the ship. The food and restaurants on board were great. Our cabin was spacious and comfortable. The common areas were beautiful and luxurious. I have traveled with other cruise lines and I think Viking is absolutely the best in customer service; every member of the staff was friendly, competent, helpful, and cheerful — all of which contributed to a most memorable experience. When I was in high school, I read a lot geography around the suez canal, red sea, and indian ocean. It is very interesting and I am glad I get this one in my bucket list. The excursions is actually more than I expect traveling Egypt, Israel, Jorden, and Mumbai in one trip. Of course, the ship is the top of the class in service. This is better than other ships which I had travelled before. The quality of food is also above other ships except the Chef Table. I went three night in this dinner and I just like the french food only. The equipment in the exercise room are in good condition and also because it is max. 930 persons in the ship, therefore, it is not crowded in the exercise room and spa area. I used the spa every day at sea. the Scandinavian Bathing is highly recommended to utilize in the trip. I also love so many sea food in the menu in this ship. Read Less

I'll start by saying that we are a family of 4 adults who only chose Princess based on the ports of call in the Mediterranean. It was chosen for Santorini and Naples, in August where other lines did one but not the other. We have cruised before, one of which was a similar Mediterranean cruise but different ports. I'll start with the positives. The food and bar staff are exceptional, their willingness to serve and make sure you want for nothing cannot be matched. Similarly, pool staff, room stewards and entertainment crew, all were fun and friendly and give the impression they at least like their jobs. The food is as good as you can expect when prepared for such huge volumes, variety is fresh and varied. The 3 "speciality" restaurants are good for an extra fee it's worth doing at least one. What they don't tell you: this cruise is predominantly over 50's. The activities are therefore geared to that demographic, which of course is fine, but could be clearer when brochures get done up. The pool is deathly silent and reminiscent of a scene from Cocoon. Can't comment t on kids clubs or a riviries but middle pools are basically kids everywhere. Lifts are slow, cause it takes people ages to get in and out, and I found the "elite" passengers almost snobbish. Gratuity as is expected on most cruise is set but no one can explain how it's divided and to who? I have no issues tipping, as long as it's going to the right people. I'm suspect staff get any of it, best switch it off and tip your favourites at end of cruise. Don't forget laundry and back of house peeps though. The negatives: Apparently high winds prevented us, for safety reasons stopping at Santorini. This is a port that requires tender ( small boat) transfer. They replaced it with Corfu. To say we were dissappointed would be an understatement; But, safety is important and although Corfu was horrendous we made the best of a bad situation. ( don't do hop on hop off there everything you can see is walking distance from port) upon return to the ship we find out 2 other cruise ships made it in to port with no problems. ( Please explain) Front desk staff are just outright rude. They don't care if you lose something, report something broken or heaven forbid need an explanation of excessive pre authorisation holds on your credit card. You see as is expected they want to keep your account in credit, however, even if you settle your bill half way through, they retain the holds. Essentially double billing, they don't cancel holds till you get off, and can't really explain why they do this. Lastly it's basically a 21 day cruise broken up into 3 X 7 day cruise, should also be on brochures. So at Athens, Barcelona and Rome people get on and off. While your card and room stay the same they do treat it as a new cruise or end of cruise. Again, this is my experience for a family of 4, who have cruised before and had similar expectations. Do research to make sure this is for you. Read Less

We selected this cruise after seeing a UK TV show with Jane Mcdonald on board this very ship. It is a relatively small ship 1200 passengers. We loved it, having cruised with Carnival (12 times) MSC (1) and PO (1), we consider ourselves experienced cruisers and therefore a bit critical. No worries this is the most delightful ship I have ever sailed on, her crew of 26 different nationalities were a delight, nothing was too much trouble to make our holiday perfect. The food was great the entertainment out of this world . There were 36 different nationalities of passengers onboard all harmonised with each other making it one of the friendliness cruises we have been on. Our cabin was a Junior suite with a balcony, which was excellent. The Crystal and her crew have real style and we will return! We hope to cruise again with her in 2019. Read Less

Liked the itinerary and found the ports in Greece to be very disappointing. restaurants on board the ship disappointing overall food very disappointing cold food and poor options. Our Butler service was poor. Virtually no entertainment on board. The Ports in Greece were very disappointing to us. Disembarkation was the worst I have ever experienced. 2+ hours to disembark a ship of this size. For the cost of this sailing we could have helicoptered between our favorite golf courses in Ireland/Scotland. Rented a luxury home in Napa Valley for a month. Will not ever rely on Silversea quality again. We could not have been more disappointed overall. The quality of beverages we could order was crazy poor. The Pizza restaurant could not make a crispy pizza no matter how many times I sent one back. I asked for Don Juan Tequila they could not get any?? I feel like the breakfast buffet was the worst of all. Read Less

My husband and I decided to finally take our honeymoon trip (almost 3 years later) as we were saving it for something big. We have always wanted to visit Greece (was on our bucket list) but also craved the adventure part, so we decided to go on a cruise. As we were browsing cruise lines in internet we agreed that we didn't want a big cruise, we were looking for something more personal and special, and we now can say Variety Cruises offers exactly that deal. Our journey aboard the Galileo was one of the most exciting experiences I've had, starting by the breathtaking views and relaxed vibe. One of the highlights is the staff, they make sure everyone is comfortable at all times, very diligent and empathetic people with a genuine smile on their face, that made them look like family at the end of our journey. They even learn everyone's name and make sure nobody's left out. One of the positive things about it is that they gave us plenty of time to visit each of the Greek islands, you can enjoy the daytime as nighttime. We made friends easily on the Galileo and enjoyed every moment of it. We have no doubt that we'll make another trip with Variety Cruises in the future, couldn't recommend it more.! Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary and it as great. Ephesus was unbelievable and the private excursion was noteworthy. There were several great features and some poor features. The captain was delightful and went out of his way to be visible and friendly. The entertainment director is a very talented singer and entertainer and was a lot of fun. The cabin staff were very friendly and efficient. But the food was sub par and I had to return multiple items that I ordered. The food was served cold most of the time and the bread was stale The internet service very expensive and did not work at all. The Windows restaurant is little more than an average cafeteria. The wine served in the basic package is very low quality, maybe $6 a bottle. The stateroom was tiny and the bathroom smaller than a closet. I will not be back on Azamara. Read Less

The staff could not have been more helpful. The cabin and the crew were excellent as well. The dining was top shelf. We are planning another river cruise and another ocean cruise. The only suggestion is that the ship ran out of top shelf single malt scotch on the second day. I am a big fan of single malt scotch and that is way I bought the silver spirits package. The lectures were wonderful and the entertainment was as well. We loved the variation in the dining and the waiters made it very fun. We very much appreciate no children, no casinos, and plenty of learning. I suggest that you made the content (TedTalks, history lectures) available when we get home. I would share that with friends who could be interested in future cruises. Read Less

Cruise was part of a tour package and things started off well. My experience is definitely colored by the air conditioning not working in my cabin until the last night despite numerous maintenance requests. I would try to find a much smaller ship if I did it again, most ports are in small towns and getting everyoneon and off the ship is quite an adventure. Given these difficulties, they did do a fantastic job in this respect. The shore tours were for the most part amazing and were done through local guides. Service and food onboard was abysmal! You know that clear crust that forms on fried eggs if you don't clean breakfast before work? On the second day, I noticed this on them and it got progressively worse. You have no choice either you are seated, so unless you go to breakfast in groups of 10, you will be mixed with random people unless you're lucky and get a smaller table. Wait staff was always so busy cleaning, that little waiting was ever done. Very few drinks are included in you drinks included so plan on an extra 14 euros per day per person. You will also have to find a water every time you need water. Give them your card and they will bring it back with 300ml bottle. Plan on chronic dehydration or buy your own larger bottles on shore somewhere. Don't plan on having wifi even though it is technically available. It is sold a few hours at a time (no option to buy amounts of data so you can stay connected with friends and family). Not that it would help since wifi is only available in public areas, not your cabin! Read Less

The noise from the movie theatre is incesant you cannot sit on your balcony without hearing the dialog, sound effects and music The movies only stop for around thirty minutes between showings. This goes on until midnight. It stopped us using the balcony for the duration of the cruise . Otherwise the cruise was magnificent and up to celebrity’s usual standards. The captain kept everyone up to date. We were on board for Halloween and Remembrance Day and the crew put a huge effort into marking these occasions for those who were interested. There were many Australians on board and it would have been good for us to have had Melbourne Cup Day recognised. It is always the first Tuesday in November. A few of us got dressed up as is appropriate for this event and met in the Living Room and had a few champagnes (as is indeed appropriate for Melbourne Cup Day). We had a great time; last year we were on the Galileo and this year on the Harmony G; (next year Cuba). The Harmony G is a good ship with a good lay-out. There is a nice deck in the back but you cannot walk around the boat outside or go outside in the front of the boat (on the Galileo you cold walk around the boat outside and had a lot of outdoor space and we liked that better) Having been to Greece the year prior, we explored on our own this year and were off the ship most days right after breakfast and returned after dinner. We wanted to get as much of the local culture as possible. I did extensive research on Trip Advisor and looking at Google Maps to see the areas we were going prior to leaving home. The islands are friendly and easy and fun to navigate. The only excursion we did was to Delos and that was really cool. Be aware you do not have to take the same boat to and back from Delos - after we realized this we stayed an extra 2 hours to explore the island, café, museum and small shop. On Crete we hired a driver to see more of the island than just Knossos and were gone from boat 12+ hours but had a great time exploring on our own! The service was good but better on the Galileo and overall preferred last years boat but both trips were great. The crew on the Galileo spoke much better English. The demographics of these trips are mostly older 65-70+ ages. We were 1 of 3 younger couples (in 50s) both years we went. Last year it was a mix of Australian, European and Americans. This year a group of Americans had their own guide (private tour) and that was 60% of the boat and most all of the others were also Americans - much different each trip. The food on the boat was really fancy and a little too "foodie" for us; we like basic food; if you like exotic food with some spices you will like it; many people were not thrilled with the meals. If you like small ship cruising, I think this is a great company and a good value. You have to have a sense of adventure because with changing weather you may not see the islands on the schedule. Last year was very windy and the trip was much different than advertised but we went to other islands and had a great time exploring those other islands. This year there was no wind and the seas were flat the entire time and the schedule was exactly as the itinerary stated. Read Less

So easy boarding, Nice cabin, only thing is they should have made the tub a walk in shower. Shower VERY small. How many people sit in a tub on a cruise? Entertainment could have been better. Liked the fact that some of the bars had happy hours, and bartenders where quite friendly. As I said, the food was excellent. Everything I ordered was fantastic and I think they would have made anything I wanted. I went to two art classes and really appreciated the Artist in Residence, Bill Sloan. He made everyone feel like an artist and I know I am not. Very easy to understand and personable. Hate to say I never even made it to the gym, and I am a walker and gym attendee. We did so much walking on the excursions that was my exercise. Ports where great, enjoyed every one of them. Read Less

We booked this cruise as we wanted to see as much of the islands as possible in just a few days. This is exactly that happened and rather successfully, as now we wish, we had stayed longer. I' ll state first the negatives: long queues on first embarkation and on each disembarkation, which means much wasted time. The ship offer in the price just one excursion on Ephesus (but the guide was not very fluent on the language). The ship management does not explain what is included in the price as far as drinks is concerned and they don't give directions about shore activities. They could have more activities for children and teens. The positives: when asked the crew give useful information and are very helpful and gentle. Their proportion to the clients is amazing, they are everywhere, eager to serve. The buffet food is average, but in the dining room on deck four it is excellent, especially when served a la carte. Prepare to gain some weight. The best of all is Mohamed from Alexandria, the head – waiter, who helped us with gluten allergies and to whom we are grateful and hope to meet again in another cruise. The tipping was just added to your bill and you get no chance to dispute it or adjust it, they just add it to your bill on the last day. There are none of the amenities cruise ships usually have. No luxury at all. You get what you pay for though, transportation to five Greek Islands, meals, entertainment (in Spanish) and that's basically it. If you're looking for a normal cruise ship experience, don't take a Pullmantur cruise. Embarkation was a real problem. The buses that normally run from the subway station in Piraeus to the cruise port didn't stop and you have no way other than walking (over a mile) with suitcases in tow to where the ship was. That's a little hard to do in 100 degree heat. There should have been Pullmantur shuttle buses to take you to the ship. It's a very basic, bare bones, no perks cruise I cannot recommend. Read Less

My sister and I chose this because we had one week in common off and I said, I am looking to see to where Princess goes this week and that is where we are going! At first I was a little disappointed that there was 2 sea days but we enjoyed those almost more than the port days. The Cruise activity staff were wonderful. We loved the trivia and name that tune activities. They had some new twists and turns to the old standard games. The Princess at Sea application is new since the last time I sailed on Princess and I loved it! I could communicate with my sister, we could pick out our activities, find out what was going on when our plans changed, and had a map on hand at all times. The ship was full! We had two calls prior to leaving asking us if we wanted to change our cruise as it was oversold, we did agree to a voluntary downgrade from a mini-suite to a baloney for a nice rebate. The room was still fine as far as room and really we did not need a suite. We ate in the Crown Grill and it was a great experience. The steaks were wonderful. The side dishes outstanding. Eating away from the dining room once was fine, otherwise, I enjoy the dining room. The food is fine and service great. I like to share with others and enjoy the lively conversation. It was quite hot while on excursions and that was good. Read Less

The offered a big choice of shore excursion . The destination were excellent. I suggest that the ship should stay night at Mykonos and reduce the time in Rhodes island. The ship person ell was helping passengers in disembarkation. The price include excursion in efesos. The guide was very good she gave us a lot of information about efesos. Read Less
