This is a great intimate soft adventure but with all the luxuries. We shared the experience with 144 other passengers but you never felt crowded. Every sail away the sails were raised along with emotions. Dining was very good with a six course meal should you choose with full waiter service. Drinks were well priced with house drinks at 3.5 Euro along with an excellent wine list from house bottles through to Cristal champagne. Something for every budget. The breakfasts and lunches were buffet style with so much to choose from. Tenders to shore in most ports where other ships could not go including deserted beaches. The sports team boys provided many activities from sailing to water skiing all included. By Day two all the staff knew your name. Music by Jerby was excellent, from piano to guitar to late night dancing, including a fun passenger and crew party night. Cruise Director Irina was great fun (Ciao Ciao) and Edwin a fantastic Bar Manager/Sommelier. If you want something different from a mega cruiseliner this is it. The ship is very stable and while there is a slight rumble from the generators you get used to it. Passengers were mostly well travelled in the forty plus bracket. Many were repeat customers which says something. There were no kids on our voyage. Very inclusive and welcoming to all including our LGBT group of six. As the Captain said, “you can take a hundred photos, but it is what you take home in your hearts that matters!”. Highly recommended. Read Less

This was not my first cruise and not my first RCI cruise. I have cruised a few times at different price points and therefore different standards. For me, this was the best cruise I have ever taken... But let's break it down... I am a solo, female traveler - I am also an Australian expat currently living in South Korea (so this will identify me to my fellow travelers haha) but I have also lived in other Asian countries including a year in China Embarkation. Arrived at the terminal exactly 12 noon and it was busy, not overly crowded, but lots of people moving efficiently with their luggage. Checking the luggage in was a quick, easy and painless process and I was shuffled to the check in queues. There was a distinct differentiation between western travelers and our Chinese counterparts - westerners were given a much quicker run through the check in - but we couldn't see any reason for splitting the groups other than to maybe appease the impatient westerners... So, all in all checkin took less than 45 mins and I was on board and in the dining room for lunch - as a solo traveler, this was the only meal I spent alone. In summary, embarkation was very quick and very painless, there was queuing but it moved rapidly and if you were western it was even quicker. Cabin I was in 7250 a studio balcony cabin. Note: this cabin has a much larger balcony then others due to the way the ship is shaped... so it was wonderful to have so much room. The cabin itself was small but that's what I expected - there were enough cupboards and drawers and a stool instead of a chair - plenty of mirrors and a decent enough bar fridge. The bathroom was the same size as other rooms. As a solo I cannot fault the room, the space was adequate - and importantly I could put empty cases under the bed. I was very happy with this cabin and in the same circumstances would choose it again. Dining I chose to eat mainly in the main dining room, I found the service to be excellent and the quality of food (in most cases) very good. I had no problem with the portion sizes and the temperature was always appropriate. On one day I didn't like the options but that was my palate and my friends on the other hand had no problem with their choices - so I guess it is a personal decision whether you like the food or not. I also ate at Chops Grille and that was a wonderful choice. The meal was excellent and I couldn't fault the service. I also dined in Teppanyaki - there was a hiccup with my reservation that was superbly dealt with by the Maitre D (Leslie) and I couldn't have been happier with the outcome - (this hiccup was the ONLY thing on the cruise that wasn't perfect - but the resolution exceded my expectations). The meal at Teppanyaki was one of the highlights of the cruise. It has to be seen to be believed - a great meal that I will remember for a very long time. I never ate in Windjammers - whenever I was in the vicinity it was always super busy and tables were hard to come by, but on the other hand, the Cafe 270 was almost empty as were the seats and tables - this became a very popular hiding spot to grab a snack or drink away from the crowds (and the food served was very nice too) I had a room service breakfast once and it was adequate - I was given exactly what I asked for... Formal nights are not received by the guests like you may have experienced elsewhere - very few people out of the 5100 dressed up for dinner - these were not published by RCI before the cruise so it is possible that many first time cruisers did not know what to expect. Drinks I was fortunate to get a free deluxe drinks package when I booked so that was a real bonus. I loved the Bionic Bar and would often use it to just grab a juice and soda mixed any time during the day. As I didn't pay for a drink I can't comment on prices and as I didn't really drink that much alcohol, I can't complain about the drinks at all. I also don't drink coffee so didn't sample any of those either. Entertainment and Activities I have to admit when I saw the schedule I was a bit disappointed - very few traditional cruise activities like trivia (it was there though but no where near what I am used to) and no bingo. I love to read on board so I packed books. However, I didn't even finish one book and I was never bored, I don't exactly know what I was doing but I managed to keep busy and have an amazing time during the cruise days. The shore excursions were also a little light on... In Osaka you could have paid $80 to go to the castle and Dotonbori Street on the tour bus - however we walked to the local metro, bought a day ticket with ease and did exactly the same destinations for $8 (we messed up on the way back and overshot the station so needed to catch a taxi back to the ship - but that was our fault). Kobe offered a shuttle bus to the main shopping area and there were several places that offered Kobe beef - which was a main reason for people wanting to visit . However when docked at Yokahama it was an hour from Tokyo so I had to catch the shore independent tour just to get to the city centre. But worth it at $69. The evening entertainment was also exceptional - I loved the Ukrainian acrobats Gold Art Duo and The SIlk Road was absolutely amazing. The flamenco guitar guy was extremely talented as were the Beatles Tribute band (I can't mention the moving piano and player as he said he smuggled himself on board - but he was awesome too). Service CAN NOT FAULT THE SERVICE From the Financial Controller to the Maitre D to the Head Waiters to the Room Attendants and Waiters - I was made to feel like I was the only one who mattered, nothing was ever too much trouble and they did everything with grace and style. I would come back just for the quality of service I experienced. Overall I loved this trip. It wasn't what I expected but it was better. I made so many friends (and as a solo traveler that is important) and had such a fun time. I would not hesitate to book again - due to my personal circumstances I couldn't book again on board but I am already looking at January dates for a replay. 20th May Singapore- Ko Samui-Pulau Redang- Singapore Hi Genting Dream, FrequentCruiserDominic here at your service. 1. Being a recurring cruiser for numerous ships on many cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean, Princess, Celebrity, and Costa. I must say it was a huge leap for me to try out Genting Dream which I have researched it being a home port for Singapore. Thus, I embarked on a 8hour flight all the way from Melbourne, determined to experience and try out Genting Dream experience, with hopes of have the dream experience of course. My Itinerary was as follow, Singapore- Ko Samui-Pulau Redang- Singapore. 3 NIGHT Asian luxury cruise with big colourful ship sailing on the high seas as seen within my brochure. 2. Upon arrival at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre of Singapore, I was greeted by havoc and chaos with almost no walking space. Noting that it was a Public Holiday in Singapore & with Voyager of the Seas docked in the terminal as well, I rendered it as a norms for the crowd for the cruise line or even the terminal and thus did not take it to heart a lot as I was looking ahead to better services and experience ahead. Reviews Reader let me guide you through the process and my experience of your Genting Dream Experience! 3. There was much confusion as I noted 6 different type of uniform don by the staff at pier but the most assuring part was seeing the well known Intercruises uniform code of White and Blue, but it surprises me on why they wore green with white here at Singapore. I was rendered no assistance when I approach the security personnel in black for assistance probably so as it wasn’t included within their job scope of security presence and crowd control, Oh well! 4. Kiosk self-check in was organised and swift which were definitely delightful! I was issued with a boarding card #9 which I had no idea what was it for? Boarding in sequence? But anyway, I senselessly followed the surge of crowd into the security counters whereby scanning of bags and belongings were in process. 5. Yet again, senselessly, I was ushered to the waiting area as of 1535hours as the staff mentioned immigration will only start boarding at 1600hours? I took it with a pinch of salt as it was probably a norm for the terminal and cruise line again. 6. Here comes the slight dramatization part. Being the Dominic in me, ( I do that at every port), I spoke to the Intercruises embarkation staff named Gerald and Ben? which were extremely helpful and attentive to my numerous numbers of questions regarding the flow of guest. Managed to understand more of the flow and operation flow of Genting Dream which I must say is very differing indeed to other cruise lines as Genting only offers short turnaround time from what I researched which is CRAZY! Kudos indeed to the embarkation team from Intercruises. You go, Boys! 7. Engulfed within the crowd with languages I do not understand, I had no alternatives but to look around and observe the staff and other cruisers. What surprises me was the constant shouting and noise transmitted from walkies talkies held by Ben even though he tried to reduce the disturbance at times as observed by me. Shouldn’t they be having earpieces for their walkie talkies or even have amiable tone within their communication systems? Once again, being the Dominic in me, I managed to track the sources to 2 individual personnel in blazer which was standing at the railing of Level 3. Seem to be the supervisor or overall in charge, I must say, they are capable of giving instructions to the staff on ground very well, pointing and directing staffs just from one origin but it would definitely be better that cruisers are not exposed to the noise transmitted or the ground staff are not exhausted by them just pointing and giving instructions! 8. Fast forwarding, I managed to board the ship at 1625hours even though the crowd was crazy, I must say, Intercruises embarkation team that facilitates boarding at Singapore is really superb, their capabilities to handle such massive crowd with that lacking amount of seating capacity. It is difficult to express just how wonderful the Strand Cruise was. From go to whoa, the trip was sumptuous and salubrious. From the seamless booking system and assistance from the Strand Hotel to being escorted from my hotel to the vessel, the entire check-in process was flawless. The vessel resembles a floating palace and continues the chic colonial style that can be found at the gorgeous Strand Hotel in Yangon. The cabins are spacious and well-appointed, and all have marvellous views of the Irrawaddy. The staff are superb and the attention to detail is flawless. They truly make you feel welcome and well looked after. Throughout the entire experience, you are cocooned in luxury and comfort. In terms of food and drink, I do confess to having high standards, yet time and time again, the cruise exceeded them. Every meal was exquisite and beautifully prepared by professional chefs. The evening cocktails and wine selection were also first class. This, in summary, is the cruise to ruin all other cruises for you. It is second to none, and a must-do for a complete Myanmar experience. Read Less

Great staff, great ship, awesome friends, terrific cabin...fantastic! That was a wicked week, and it all started with the staff onboard, nothing was ever a hassle. Our servers in the MDR were some of the best I have ever encountered, met + exceeded all expectations. Voyager is due for a refurb later this year, wouldn't think it needs (only a couple of things here & there) but really the ship is in great condition...the refurb will be insane! Did a splurge for this cruise and got a Junior Suite on Deck10, right under the Windjammer...but really had no idea at all, didn't hear a thing and was able to sleep in until late :) Clean cabin, spacious, a good escape when needed. Picked this cruise for the range of ports and they didn't disappoint, Langkawi always a favourite, but Phuket was just too much fun and the food! In short loved it, pretty obvious I suppose...but as always go on with the right attitude and have the vacation you deserve :D Read Less

I’ve travelled a lot, but this was my first cruise. And it may well be my last. It was the worst vacation I have ever experienced. I chose this mode of travel as I am single and have a deadly allergy to all nuts and peanuts. After several emails, medical questionnaires and a phone conversation with Norwegian, I was advised that they could safely handle my special dietary needs. I was very excited, as I didn’t think I could ever visit these countries; countries rich in nut and peanut products. Well as it turned out, my allergy was just one of many issues I encountered while on the Norwegian Jewel for 2 weeks visiting Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. On a positive note, I found the ship and my cabin to be very clean and comfortable. There were plenty of staff everywhere, greeting and cleaning as they went. In fact the ratio of staff to customers was incredible at almost 3:1. However, the efficiency and productivity of the Jewel’s team was very low and their customer service was appalling. In fact, Guest Services’ attitude was…”if you don’t like it, there’s the door. Let us know when you are leaving on your way out”! That’s exactly what they told some friends I met, who had booked a room for 4 but only got beds for 3! My experience at Guest Services wasn’t any better. Even though I had a letter advising that on arrival the Executive Chef would meet with me to discuss my special dietary needs, they snarled at me with a look and tone of voice that was shocking. They told me the chefs were very busy and could not attend to any special needs. It took me hours to sort through that one, but as it turned out…I think they were right!! Eventually I was able to pre-order my meals so they could be prepared nut free, but I worried about everything I put in my mouth. I couldn’t trust them from one meal to the next, as it was clear they didn’t understand or didn’t care about cross contamination. Luckily I only had one minor incident. Besides the safety of the food for me, the overall dining experience was very poor. There was always a team of restaurant staff close by to remove your dirty glass or fork before you even put it down, but it took forever to have a request like ketchup, tea or a glass of wine fulfilled. The food started off very good, but deteriorated to very bad as the days went by. The last few days it was almost inedible. More people than not were returning their meals. It made for a very unpleasant dining experience. Customer service at the Excursions desk wasn’t any better. It didn’t matter that I’d pre-paid for one of their expensive excursions every day. They seemed to treat everybody in line terribly! The Manager was no better. At least I didn’t mind the 2-2.5 hr highway drives from the pier to the destinations (one way), as I got to see some of the countryside, but it wasn’t great travel time. In my opinion, leadership was sadly lacking on this ship. Management’s response to everything was “it’s not our fault” and as a result they took no responsibility for anything. In turn, they took little to no action in resolving anything. Communication between departments was totally absent and communication with customers wasn’t much better. Things often don’t work out in business the way we planned, but I think how you handle such incidents is critical and very telling. The team on this ship avoided and deflected issues coming at them. They simply didn’t seem to have the ability to problem solve on their feet. And that attitude and lack of training cascaded down throughout the entire organization. It was very evident on the pier at Ko Samui during our first excursion. People were passing out in the blazing sun for hours with no shade, water, proper line ups or communication, while we waited for tendering that went awry. A mob mentality almost took over as people struggled for basic survival and Sr. Officers stood by chatting and laughing amongst themselves. It was utter disorganization and disbelief for passengers, as many could be heard wondering out loud how this crew would handle a disaster at sea. It was no wonder people laughed out loud as the Captain addressed the ship’s passengers some 3-4 days later about that incident, saying that safety was his #1 priority. These are just a few examples from my trip with the Jewel. It was a stressful vacation. When I wasn’t sorting out my own issues, I was listening to others vent about their own terrible experiences on board and others who even called Head Office to no avail. Went on a far east cruise on the Celebrity Constellation. Firstly, our taxi didn't turn up to take us to the hotel for our overnight stay. When asking anyone from Celebrity Cruises they couldn't help us as they couldn't speak English. (we werent the only ones this happened to) While waiting to check in and board ship in Shanghai, we was shunted from place to place with no where warm to sit. (it was very cold) The staff was amazing so no issues there what so ever !!! But the price on board ship was so extortionate. The WIFI and Excursions was so overpriced. If we hadn't got a drinks package in place, I have no idea what we would have done. The ship docked in cargo type docks in the middle of nowhere. So, if you didn't have an excursion booked then you had nowhere to go. We ended up taking two trips just to get of ship. $49 just take us to Danang for a 4-hr trip which got cut to 3hrs which was not good enough for the amount they were charging. We complained and got a 30% refund. The second one was Singapore night at a glance, which most of it was done on foot and cost a grand total of $99 each for 3.5 hrs long trip. They only had American dollars on boardship. They should have had the relevant monies needed for each port docked at. The food on board was mainly rice type dishes and stir fry, very little of anything English. And you need very long arms to get the things from the back in the buffet. Ridiculous to have to pay to go in speciality restaurants. ( Just my opinion) To top it off we had to wait in airport for our flight home for over 12hrs because of turn around. All in all, very disappointing as this was for our 30th wedding Anniversary and my Husbands 60th Birthday. we saved long and hard for it. A big let down !! Read Less

This was my first experience with Silversea, having travelled with around a dozen other cruise lines over the decades. Silversea wins hands down! I had the lowest (and presumably the lowliest) of cabins (428), which I jokingly referred to as being 'below the Plimsoll Line.' It was incredibly spacious, with a huge and comfortable bed, lounge suite and two armchairs, walk in robe and ample storage, a bathroom larger than my own, desk, coffee table, further mirrored ledges, and a generous ocean view. The toiletries were Bvulgari, the in-suite fridge stocked and replenished with beverages of my choice, VIP treatment from both the butler and his assistant, who despite being totally professional, felt like 'family' throughout. I also appreciated the daily newspaper, plus bulletins from my part of the world, and having the nearby laundrette was fantastic. Given my predilection for cruising - and my love of food - I reckon I'm qualified to judge the variety of menu options across Silversea's several restaurants, the quality and generosity of the servings, and the high standard of the wait staff as outstanding. Special requests were honoured when necessary, preferred wines freely offered if those chosen daily were not to your liking, imaginative and delicious cocktails always available. My late husband and I have been guilty on many an occasion of eschewing a voyage's entertainment in favour of sleep. I'm so glad I didn't on the Silver Shadow. Their entertainers were fantastic: both the onboard team and the guest saxophonist and the cello duo. Cruise Director Moss brought the house down with his own show one night. Accolades also to the wonderful pianist who never seemed to sleep, and the resident band whose musical repertoire knew no boundaries. I selfishly enjoyed many hours playing bridge (the card game, not the control centre!) and afternoon trivia with a bunch of fellow voyagers. At no time did I feel lonely as a solo traveller. Every single member of the Silver Shadow's crew went out of their way to be welcoming, kind, friendly and helpful. Extraordinary training and personal enthusiasm must lie behind their exemplary and personalised customer service skills. Acts of God brought undone our scheduled itinerary, but the ship's personnel from top to bottom all coped well and cheerfully carried on (unlike some of their guests whose plans had been scuttled in order to save their lives!). This has been a most wonderful introduction to my future relationship with Silversea. Read Less

I believe FO first time on this itinerary to India and initial visa problems should iron out as its definitely a wonderful country to visit. The ship IS getting old and the first two nights it was like sleeping on a Power plate the vibration was so bad (although after the safety officer dined with us and we complained - it stopped!). Problems with toilet drainage (my cabin in particular wasn’t totally solved) was evident. LOTS of black soot from funnel made me towns and cossies dirty - be warned. The show company were absolutely superb - top class entertainment, well choreographed and super singers (who also ran the singing for fun which was great!) - the little blonde Niamh disappeared the last few nights but hope she’s okay. Guest entertainers, Simon the comedian, Jo the saxophonist and singer along with Aiden the magician were very good also and the last show they did where they worked together was hilarious - nice to see how well they got on Big shout out to the destination desk, the lovely ladies Alex and Jen were SO helpful in altering plans and changing shore tours without flapping at all. Customer services - its probably a cultural thing but the young ladies there were coolly professional but totally without empathy; so when you’re cabin card didn’t work 3 times in succession a bland ‘I’ll print you another’ truly isn’t sufficient when you’d actually like an “Oh I’m so sorry about that” - this aspect was commented on by several guests and I believe needs addressing by FO on the staff training side Cabin, you get what you pay for and my balcony suite was good (apart from loo problems!) and kept spotless by Miac. The food was lovely throughout and despite the rather unfriendly waiting staff in the poolside restaurant, I often used it for breakfast as the eggs benedict and fruit plate were superb. The ship was only half full so our table at dinner only had 4 out of 6 people but we all got on well and the waiting staff were very nice and efficient. (We ate in four seasons) The excursions with one exception (Zeebop by the sea) were excellent and I’d recommend them esp the Tuk tuk rides!! I did enjoy the cruise, loved the ports we called at (will def visit Sri Lanka for a full visit) and this boat comes 3rd out of 4 of the Freds for me. Read Less

Majestic Princess is the newest Princess ship built for China, but after less than a full season business seems not as good as expected, and it moves to Taiwan for a while, then after returning to China for some charters it is rumoured that the ship will leave Asia via an Australian season. This ship, my 8th Princess ship, is the best Princess ship I have so far cruised on. The shops are upgraded to cater for Chinese luxury spenders and well decorated and arranged, much better than streetwise shopping on sister ship Regal Princess. There is a larger choice of restaurants too decided to make you pay. But it is good that the ship retains much of an atmosphere of international cruising, despite Chinese signage, and for this trip menus are given in Chinese (with a lot of wrong translation) as the majority if not all passengers are Chinese. The majority of crew are however international, many not Chinese speaking, yet it manages well. There are more small tables to cater for couples, and small table is available in restaurants even for breakfast and lunch. Menu retains the Western standards but with Chinese items added. There are 3 restaurants offering sufficient facility but the buffet area is definitely too small, and you virtually can't find a seat at peak time. The best paid restaurant is the Princess standard Crown Grill. The Chinese food is no good, not Michelin star food but home dishes. I had a restricted balcony, the cheapest balcony grade but it doesn't bother me as I never go out to use the balcony in such hot weather. If you do, then the balcony is so narrow as to be of no use. What is good is that a water kettle is provided, with tea bags. You won't find this on other Princess ships, but I believe this service will be out if not cruising in China. Princess had hailed the new production shows as spectacular but theatre facility failed to take in all passengers, so many were turned away. But no harm, as the show was simply what other cruise lines better in entertainment had been doing for years. It still fails to compare with Dream Cruises, Star Cruises, NCL, MSC, and RCI. There are other local shows. The magician was a disaster but the Taiwan violinist Venus Tsai is very good, pleasing in looks and she played a high powered violin and hosted a good show. I later learned that she is popular in this area and appears with RCI, NCL and Holland America as well. I am happy with the ship but regret that it may have to leave my region. The blame may be due to the Princess management in Shanghai who failed to give it due promotion and good operation (for example menus are wrongly translated). It is sad if the ship has to leave this market, while RCI even with bigger ships and more capacity can manage to stay on in China/Asia. The cruise is 6 nights than the standard 7 and Princess is probably the most flexible operator capable of rescheduling the ship quickly, while Norwegian Joy continues to struggle. We called at Kagoshima, probably chosen only because of the easy location, then Hiroshima which is very interesting though the ship berths far away, then finally a small Japanese town of no touristic interest. Embarkation was good for me as a Platinum member for priority, and as I took my luggage by myself I can freely disembark almost as soon as we berthed. Read Less

Visiting Shanghai for the F1 Grand Prix and this was my first ever cruise on any ship. I have to say that this ship and cruise is most definitely aimed at Chinese. If you are a European like me, it’s a real eye opener. There are over 1 billion Chinese that have money to spend and Royal Caribbean wants to exploit that market, it’s good business sense. Be prepared for rudeness, queue jumping and little consideration from the Chinese passengers on the cruise with you. An example was that there was a long queue at Sorentoes, I got my meal, the server tried to hand it to me and a Chinese man tried to steal the meal. He saw absolutely nothing wrong with this until the server rebuked him in angry Mandarin. Try to avoid Windjammer at peak times, complete madness. Little choice apart from Chinese food, even the western food is aimed at the Chinese passenger. You can get other food but you will have to pay for it. Shipboard currency is dollars, they can change currency but be prepared to pay a surcharge. I was advised to go ashore and change currency there. Embarkation was ok, the cruise line have worked very hard to make it a smooth as possible. The cabin I had was internal and was finished to a good standard and the house keeper introduced herself and was extremely helpful when I needed to ask her questions. I cannot fault the rest of the crew I have had dealings with, but it’s VERY obvious which passengers are in the driving seat on this ship and the crew don’t enforce the rules unless they have to. They do not want to upset those passengers at all. I have A LOT of time for the crew on this ship because of the hard work they have to do. There are LOTS of videos in Mandarin instructing the passengers not to walk around in pyjamas, disposable flip flops and certain areas you are required to dress smartly to enter. I walk around the ship and lost count of the passengers wandering around in pyjamas and flip flops. I got dressed up for chops resturaunt and in came several others in jeans, t-shirts and disposable flip flops. I went on a trip and was told that at the last minute I could not leave the ship until my account had been settled, I phoned at friend who had been on another RCL ship (Independence) that it was not done. Where was I going to go? The ship had taken my passport (for immigration purposes) it’s not like I was going to do a bunk without that? I can only say my own observations, it’s a good cruise and I have had a good time but you are going to see an awful lot of bad Chinese behaviour. I have got a master class in Mandarin insults, and watching men hawking spittle into the hand basins they have to wash their hands in before they go into the windjammer. Come and see China and Japan its a great experience, but you have to bite your lip a lot. You have to remember that what’s considered rude and really out of order in the West is totally different from what’s applicable in China. Read Less

We chose this cruise as several s places I had not been to. We enjoyed KL, and Pennang, and the shopping was good. I had been to Bali 18 times so knew my way around no problem, like my second home. Phuket I did not like as stinking hot, humid and dirty. No taxis were at the port as was advised. Only private drivers wanting a day fare, when we only wanted a quick look around,ended up with a non licensed car, trip into Robinsons departments store. Air con great and so was lunch cheap and tasty. Got a taxi back to the ship easily. Thailand the most disappointing part of the trip, and never again. The ship is tired, but very clean and the service was great. The main anytime dining options, 4 different however with same menu was ok. The buffet was great, so much selection and deserts to die for. I have never used the buffet ever before for evening meals on any other cruise, however it was superb. The entertainment was lacking as we were looking forward to the broadway shows, of which 2-3 only, the rest other entertainers. Overall a great cruise, and would recommend. Read Less

I chose this cruise to join a family group. It was my 6th cruise but first on Silversea. It was the best cruise ever. The service,crew and entertainment was outstanding. I loved the smaller venue which allowed us to get to know the other guests and staff. This made the time on board very friendly and personable. I felt so welcomed and special from the time we boarded until we disembarked. The prepaid tours were excellent giving us an excellent insight at all sites. Sue the excursion director was helpful in last minute changes which allowed us to see the super bowl and not miss a tour that was top on our list. The cruise director Mr Moss went out of his way to advise us on the availability of watching the super bowl. His personal show was one of the best performances. However it should be presented on a night at sea so you can’t miss it. We came in at the end after attending a fabulous on ground evening excursion. Kennan our butler went above and beyond to serve us. I miss him so much!!!! The entertainment had something for everyone. To judge by the number of B2B travellers from the previous cruise, many of the Azamara family had been eagerly awaiting this first journey to Sydney round the West Australian coast. I for one was certainly not disappointed. A brisk headwind greeted our journey south, but as we visited ports where we were given an enthusiastic welcome, the temperature hovered around the mid 20's (70's) which made for comfortable exploration .For a first journey, the ship's excursions, while expensive, were varied and professionally presented but one or two need fine tuning The shuttles provided for individual exploration, worked well. Tenders were needed for only two ports. As a solo, older traveller, I cannot speak too highly of the always pleasant, professional and efficient staff throughout the ship. One never needed to be surrounded by family or fiends to feel included. Open dining in Discovery in the evenings made for many pleasant and interesting dinners. The delayed arrival of a Bridge Director in Perth was welcomed by the card players in Perth as lessons and duplicate sessions began. Some of the entertainment was outstanding, especially two of the solo singers but I think some of the day time lectures might have dealt with Australian history and culture. The films shown on board were disappointing compared to other Azamara cruises. While Casablanca and Sleepless in Seattle are classics more recent offerings would have been welcome. I noted that people with varied dietary needs were well catered for but while the range of food available was broad and more than adequate, the menu in Discovery has changed little over the years and I personally would like to see more authentic dishes in Windows on Asian and Middle Eastern evenings. Greatly recommend to those who are keen to go for a cruise managed by a poor management who always put on an "unhappy" face on all their cruise with no proper instructions given and when questions were raised by their guest to their crew, the standard reply was "I don't know, please check with another crew.". Also if you do not wish that the crew to enter your cabins, do remember to put the "Do Not Disturb" sign at your door as our room was entered multiple times for no particular reasons even though we didn't call for housekeeping and we realised that our laptop had been touched ( as we left room for a short time to attend their concert, we left our laptop open and when we were back, it was closed and the whole room was pitch dark - even side table lights were offed. ) When asked to the information counter, they said we didn't put "DTD" thus the crews can enter and leave anytime they like. Toilets were filled with moulds at bathing area, beds were stained with black stains even after a housekeeping session done.. Smoke can be smelt along the corridor of the cabins, insufficient kettles available as well. The adapter given by the crew had sparks coming out from it when it was plucked it and when asked for an exchange, the crew said that they ran out of it. Long queues during meal times and there was no one controlling the crowd nor guiding the passengers. Ice cream stall only open for 1 meal throughout the 5 days of cruise. Speciality restaurant does not offer all indicated food items and we were not told before we sat down for our meal. Waste of money. There is 3 eating area for the passengers, however, only 2 is available as 1 is converted to "FOR SUITE" passengers only. We purchased the non-alcoholic beverage package but the crew would keep on telling us that the non-alcoholic drinks are not included and we had to pay extra (don't buy package as they don't honour it). No proper lightings near the swimming pool where some kids are found running in dark as well which is very dangerous. Entertainment were the same for the 5 days. Poor management on disembarkation and embarkation as well as no proper direction nor instructions given, announcement system is also not clear. Overall, its a waste of money and time, both my partner and I are very displeased with the service provided, management control, experience, condition of the cabin and the embarkation and disembarkation process. This is not our first time cruising on a cruise liner but it will be the first time and LAST TIME cruising with COSTA VICTORIA. Read Less

Having only been on 1 cruise prior a short 3 day one, we chose this cruise purely for the ship. The location was then selected and as it had a number of stops to break up the trip and went for this one with stops in Vietnam and Thailand before arriving in Singapore. We also had not visited HK before so that was an added bonus to fly in a few days prior to look around. Despite the stops, we could have done with more days at sea as there was so much to do on the ship. The ocean was flat all the way and was perfect. The weather had a few overcast days but only rained once or twice. We expected for the size of the ship it would be overcrowded and embarkation and disembarkation at the Ports and pre/post cruise would be a nightmaree but it was a painless experience. Some of the prior reviews rated this negatively and I guess they have put more focus on this as the wait times were minimal and we got on and off the boat easily. For the number of people (around 4300 guests) it did not feel crowded at all, there was always plenty of space. We had an interior stateroom with a virtual balcony (9185) and it was excellent. We have stayed in a balcony room before so wasn't sure what to expect but I was more than happy with the room. Friends stayed in a balcony room and the size and layout was exactly the same except for the balcony. The virtual screen provided a good look at what was going on outside the ship but we hardly noticed as we were never in our room. Once we left in the morning we didn't return until night before getting ready for dinner or to go out. We did the most of the activities on board, Eye in the Sky, I-Fly (sky diving), roller staking, bumper cars, rock climbing, basketball, ping pong etc. There was a lot to keep you occupied. All of which was great fun. I travelled with a group of 10 (5 couples, no children). There were not many young kids on board that we saw, and same for teenagers. However, there were specific kid and teenage activities arranged and the sporting area (ping pong, roller skating, basketball, volleyball, bumper cars, xbox lounges, foozball etc.) as well as the arcade would be awesome for them, it was pretty impressive. My teenage son was a bit envious he didn't come! We saw the Love Legs show (may have the name wrong) which was excellent. Great singers and performers. Entertainment was generally high quality. The ship has a huge lounge called the 270 which has screens that cover all windows. One of the shows Pixels that you had to book for showcased the facility with moving screens, light show etc. The show was a bit out there but it was good to see the full capability of the facility which is pretty amazing. The food was excellent in most of the facilities. Fine Dining was a bit disappointing and the standard was ok, but not great. We had better meals in the Windjammer (buffet) and ate there on most occasions. I think this was consistent with most travellers as we tried fine dining again on day 4 or so and there was hardly anyone there and they were so grateful we went back. Again, meal was ok and we didn't return again. The buffet at Windjammer was very good quality, could not fault it. So much variety and suffice to say we ate a lot! We also pre-booked Jamie Oliver and Chops Steakhouse both of which were very good as well. The food was unlimited and we paid around $35-40 pp pre-booked and it was well worth it. Plenty of other places to eat but we did not try them all. Also did room service breakfast before tours in Port and this was also good. A few in our group smoked and there was a good area on the pool deck with nice lounges and you could open the windows. A few commented this was a lot better than other cruises where you can be stuck in a tiny, crappy area. We booked our own tours rather than go with the boats which was perfect for a group. We used a Company called "Shore Excursions" in both Vietnam and Thailand. It was much better as we did not have to wait for other people and could adjust the itinerary on the day. The itineraries and tour guides were great and would highly recommend this as well. As you can see by my novel - we loved our time on Ovation!!! Read Less

Let me start out by saying that this ship is beautiful- it is one of the most modern cruise ships I have even on. Which is why its a shame the cruise failed to impress. Embarkation: Fast and efficient in hong kong. We were on the ship less then 30 mins after cruise terminal arrival. Dining: Not very good. This ship has now started charging $7.95 for room service (expect breakfast) I will be traveling on royal less because of this. The windjammer buffet was a mess. Completely overcrowded and understaffed. It took me at least 20 mins every time I went there to get an omelet. For dinner in the evening the two restaurants on deck 4 were very nice but on the first day the 8:00PM dinner was delayed until at least 8:25. Imagine a crowd of people waiting to eat not my idea of a fun vacation. The food the other nights was ok but RCCL has stopped offering lobster on formal night. The food in the dining room was pretty good but nothing to write home about. Entertainment: Shows were very good! I enjoyed Pixels but make sure to book this once onboard as it fills up. Pixels is a special show that uses multiple screens in a smaller venue. All the regular shows you dont need to book. Onboard Experience: TERRIBLE. This is the worst part of this cruise and it happends because there were way too many people for the size of this ship. The elevators were ALWAYS crowded and I rarely used them due to this. LINES EVERYWHERE. From the buffet to the shore excursions desk. Be prepared to wait and do some more waiting. The service in the dinning areas sucked. They need to hire more staff for this amount of people. Ports: The star of this cruise. Hong Kong, Vietnam, Bangkok and Singapore were all amazing!!! It's a shame for me to have to write this review because once again this ship is breathtaking from the second you walk in. After 7 years this was my first cruise on Silversea again. Food was outstanding, crew fantastic. I did not try Le Champagne. Food in La Terrazza, main dining room and Pool grill was just great. We had to cancel on port cause of bad weather but I think it was a wise decision cause of safety reasons. Yes the ship does need some refurbishment but it is still a beautiful ship. The crew was absolutely fantastic. I never heard anyone saying no to a request or a question. The few shore excursions I've attended have been really good. Especially the trip to the Railway and Floating Market outside of Bangkok. My cabin was great as always and my butler and room attendant did everything they could to make my stay another memorable one. I loved it so much I will be back on the Shadow in February 2018 cruising again South East Asia. Read Less

I chose this cruise because of the "no single supplement". Ponant is the only luxury cruise with this option and I really think it is a good marketing option for the company. More and more you have a lot of women traveling and exploring the world by themselves. At the beginning of my cruise Ponant had a get together for all the people traveling alone, so we could meet each other. I also selected Ponant because I wanted to speak French and eat French! I was not disappointed! We visited some very remote islands in Indonesia and met fabulous ethnies: the Torajans for example. Ponant went out of its way to find an event so we could observe first hand the Torajan Funeral rites (we even went there with two live pigs we could offer to the family!). It was superb! The conferences were always of great interest: the naturalists were experienced on board and we were lucky to have Jean Marie Rouart from the Academie française in a panel Paris Match (a great addition for this cruise)! It is not easy to write a review of the Strand Cruise because it was so much more than a travel experience, it felt more like participating in a carefully orchestrated spectacle; you need an art connoisseur to do it justice. But let’s try anyway… The cabins are spacious, comfortable and represent a well balanced blend of contemporary décor and traditional furnishings. The public areas are well designed and appointed, whether you choose to chill on the sundeck, workout in the gym or cool down from the tropical heat with a splash in a swimming pool, you can be sure to relax body and mind. Sightseeing was well organized and diverse; we saw the ancient temples of Bagan, buildings of historical importance in Mandalay and its environs but also brushed shoulders with the locals in small towns and villages. But what made the biggest difference was the impeccable service which is a result of assembling the crew of an all star caliber; the cruise manager – Neville, one of the friendliest people you will ever meet, was happy to share his unrivaled wealth of knowledge of the Irrawaddy River. Room Division Manager – Helen was discretely attentive, courteous and very helpful, the F&B manager – Bart is clearly passionate about his job and his professionalism is on another level; he always took the time to explain the dishes and drinks, those introductions were in fact so engaging and compelling that I couldn’t imagine having a meal without them. The Chef – Christian, prepared truly spectacular and various dishes of the top quality. The Bar Manager – Mr. Win conjured up superb drinks at the drop of a hat, the concierge – Bilou is a Swiss army knife, not only is he a great organizer but also a magician, painter and comedian. All the other staff members, whose names I don’t remember, were also magnificent. I recommend it to anyone who values luxury, opulence personalized service and… a bit of adventure. Read Less

I have been cruising for quite a few years so much so that I have been lucky to have been to almost all the ports in North America, Central America, the Caribbean and Europe. I, not long ago came back from a cruise in South America visiting Chile , Argentina and Buenos Aires and all ports in between including Port Stanley in Falkland Islands. I wanted to see Japan, S. Korea and Taiwan and the opportunity arose and I booked this cruise on Diamond Princess. It is a amazing ship very big in size but good in all the comforts and activities. There was one disappointment that the entertainment director was not up to standard. He came on the stateroom TV from time to time and was reading from the script, coughing and hardly making sense of what he was saying. It was better to read the program sheet than to listen to him. The entertainment was mediocre and seen better performers on other cruise ships, repetitive with the same people appearing from time to time. But the Large screen showing "movies under the stars" was good to excellent. Perhaps thee should be more movies shown when at sea and at night to give the customers a better choice of entertainment. The food in the Horizon restaurant was of good quality, hot and appetizing. The waiter service in the restaurant was good to excellent and always met with a smile. Hard working staff all round. ***AS USUAL, THIS IS A DETAILED REVIEW OF MY EXPERIENCE ON THIS SPECIFIC CRUISE: - This was a repositioning 12 day cruise around Asia, we were a party of 6 in our early 30´s, late 20´´s in 3 different balcony cabins, I got cabin 12712. We arrived at Singapore a few days before we embarked and we stayed in a hotel called STUDIO M HOTEL which was a a few hundred meters from Clarke Quay, a very popular área with lots of restaurants and bars, the hotel is very nice and the rooms are very spacious for 2-3 people at most, the room was a 2 level loft, great customer service and great Wi-Fi. First I must say that Singapore is a beautiful city with lots of things to do, very modern, expensive and people is very nice, we really enjoyed our time in the city. *EMBARKATION: We took a Uber to the port, but be careful, there are 2 different port, make sure you ask the right one, in this case is called MARINA PORT, the uber took us to the other one and we almost lost the ship, we basically were the last ones to embark so we had no problema with lines or embarkation, it went smooth, fast and easy. *Port: HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM: I must say that his place exceded my expectations, the city is beautiful with lots of things to do, in this place the ship stayed overnight so we decided to rent an apartment through AIRBNB and we got a beautiful apartment with great view close to downtown; in this place there are many things to do and the city is huge! Make sure you visit the parlament, the opera house (Check the website for shows, there are many, we went to a show called TEH DAR and it was beautiful and cheap, around 25 dlls per person in the 12th row, also make sure you take an uber moto, they are fun and safe! Also make sure you visit all the temples you can, each one of them is beautiful!, also don´t forget to visit the catedral, we also wen to have lunch to a very recommended vietnamese restaurant called Qhna Hang Ngon, it is very good and cheap!! Night life in this city is also very fun and cheap. *Port: DA NANG, VIETNAM: This was the second port of call, there were 2 options to visits in this place: DA NANG or HUE, we chose the first one and we really like it, nothing compared to Ho Chi Minh City but this place is nice, full of nice temples and markets, mostly to shop around for typical vientamese souvenirs, make sure you take the mountain tour, I Heard its great! *Port: HONG KONG: This was the third port of call, in this place we decided to ask for authorization of the ship to stay here and catch the ship on the next port since there was 2 sea days in between, we decided to take advantage of this time and see more of HK and Seoul and I must say it was totally worth it, Hong Kong was by far the best city in all my trip, it has many things to do for all kind of taste, make sure you visit the big budah, victorias peak, also make sure you catch the night light show on the promenade, it has a beautiful view of the skyline, also make sure you visit the observation tower which is one of the tallest in the world, the food is very good, people is nice! Make sure you go to the Wong Tai Sin Temple. I stayed in a hotel called SOHOTEL, rooms are very small but the hotel is nice and it has one of the best customer service ever! Also nightlife in here is very fun. *Port: SEOUL: This city is similar to Singapur but with less skyscrappers, the city is beautiful, the palace is nice, there is a tower that is new and is a must and is one of the tallest buildings in the world also, people here are nice and nightlife is very fun as well; in this port, the embarkation was a pain in the butt, very unorganized and the port is on construction so its hard to find the way in, make sure you take korean instructions with you to get to the port. *SHIP: The vessel is amazing, I have nothing but good things to say about it, the decoration is beautiful, the food is very good, the entertainment is excellent, casino is fun, shows are amazing, especially pixels and beautiful dream, make sure you don´t miss those 2, also live love legs.. There are several games made for adults, make sure you don´t miss them either and also the iFly was so much fun! The only thing I didn´t like about the ship is that the nightclub closes at 3am, in all the other cruises I have been, they close around 5am! One night we were lots of people and there was no music! We had to talk to several supervisors to get the music started, other tan that everything was perfect, buffet was very good, make sure you try wonderland! Its a very nice and different dinning experience, it has an extra cost but its worth it; the cabin was the best I have ever been! It was very spacious, decoration was beautiful, shower and bathroom was also very good and clean and the Stewart was great! Overall I love everything about the ship, the solárium is in the back part of the ship and its inside, I love the decoration in it and the fact that its inside so it doesn´t matter if its cold or if it rains, the solárium its always a good choice! *DINNING: Everything was excellent, I really liked the buffet, there was always something new to try, desserts are good too and the main dinning room was very good as well except for the last night which was horrible, cold and with no taste at all. Never tried the room service. *DISEMBARKATION: Here´s why I didn´t rate 5 / 5, the disembark was a nightmare, very unorganized and it took forever to get off the ship, we took almost 3 hours and a half, we lost our train and there were only a few inmigration officers on the counters, that was another minus on the disembarkation process, I know is not Royals fault but the way they organized the exit was very bad, they need to improve that asap!! Overall, I had an amazing time on the ship, great food, great people, great entretainment, great cabin and great customer service! I had a problema back in Seoul related with Royal and they couldn´t help me which made me very mad, but they gave me a very good compensation for it so at the end everything was good. I will definitely sail with royal again!! By the way, I Heard all but good things for Royals shore excursions on this ship so make sure you skip it and book independent tours!! Read Less

Chose this cruise because we wanted a proper sailing adventure and did not want a large floating hotel, - and It was just fabulous ! We enjoyed every single minute of this voyage. Yes - the cabins are quite "cosy" , but they have everything you need. The crew were all very friendly and professional. The food on board was superb, and we met some lovely people from all over the world. Some of the trips were a bit disappointing, eg: Malacca is a place I wouldn't rush back to, and the Similian islands were more crowded than Maya bay, but life on board ship was always the highlight. Prices on board were very reasonable -especially when compared to Singapore ! Always felt very safe when leaving the ship by tender, but you do need to be fairly fit as there are a lot of stairways involved on a cruise like this. To sum up - loved it, loved it, loved it ! Would never sail in the constellation as little activities and same old food everyday lack of waiters for bars noisey ship, bars up stairs closing at 6.30pm , entertainment wasn't crash hot , lack of English speaking crew had noise in cabin complained several time and last day of cruise they decided to upgrade me and every port we went to to get to town was 2hrs away and u had to find your own transport to town so the ports they chose was not ideal and 2 nights before end of cruise they were scrubbing everything down up top deck and lower decks we all felt like we were being pushed off the ship and if u didn't take a drink package the drinks were over priced , internet was very very expensive , also cabins weren't cleaned properly as when I got into my cabin there was a pair of shoes under my bed and air conditioning kept playing up in rooms and when we had to depart ship we had to be out of cabins by 8am and the cabin person was stripping beds before 8am I will never sail the celebrity constellation ever again and they had the cheek to class that ship a 5 star I would rate a 2 star Read Less
