We chose this cruise on Valentine's Day when we found an amazing price on line. Flying from Manchester was quite smooth but our disembarkation in Thailand was so slow and frustrating. Once at the ship our check-in was quick and easy and our cases were at our room within the hour. Our cabin: deck 2 outside was clean and tidy and our cabin crew kept it spotless throughout the cruise. The itinerary was excellent though we had to miss Cambodia because of the developing Corona crisis. We loved Penang. Langkawi was a sheer delight. Malacca was fascinating and Singapore was impressive. Thailand: Ko Samui was great fun and we were well pleased with all our stops. My wife and I made our own arrangements for shore stops and found this to be quite easy to do. On board the entertainment was excellent. Daily dance lessons and twice-nightly social dances were superb and our heartfelt thanks go to Amy and Dmitrii for making our holiday really special. The showteam were excellent, performing a range of shows to suit all tastes. We also enjoyed Celidh dancing, Jazz Dancing and line dancing - so much to do! We ate in the waiter service restaurants for breakfast and dinner. For lunch we used the Islands self service restaurant. The food was always excellent... suckling pig was an unexpected treat and the veal, venison, duck and Angus beef were great. All bar and waiting staff were so helpful and good-natured. There was a real family atmosphere on board throughout the cruise. Captain Chris Dodds and his officers were an inspiration, dealing brilliantly with many difficult situations caused by outside factors. The reception team were also really helpful and caring for the entire cruise. It's hard to find fault with this cruise, crew and ship. They were all excellent. We will be back on board as soon as circumstances make it possible! Read Less

Positives. Staff. Top class. Waiters - Excellent especially - Dining Melvic Z and Jansen Nicolas along with others we made good contact with and there was several of them. Thank you boys and girls - bar. Sheila, Jennifer, Araminda and lots of others whose names I didnt remember! Shows - Excellent and fresh- no repeats! and wide variety all done by staff who also had other duties. The energy!!!! Music - lots of it and various styles and in many venues Communication - excellent altho in up to 7 different languages. ( remember its an Italian ship) so obviously everything was in Italian then other languages followed. Service desks- excellent. Dining rooms - excellent choices, flavours and presentation and energectic entertainment was a hit with all -Buffet. Many choices and styles of food and never a shortage in quantity or quality! Variety of drinks with in each package was very good. The range of coffees, teas and juices was great. Only one type of beer avail by the glass The effort that went into keeping the Ship free of the CV-19 was commendable. Some of the ports of call were extremely good. Others interesting. Some activities had the gloss taken off only due to the language barriers. Negatives wine- Maybe better quality? Why not water available free as duty of care? the water available from the Buffet was not nice as it was heavily chlorinated not filtered, and not always available. I was of the understanding the buffet area was open for longer hours than it seemed to be, Some one apparently did complain and it was open longer for the 2nd part of our trip. No quiet zone any were except in your room to chill out in.Only place was on deck 5 with the smokers - no thank you. A quiet lounge/seating area with soft music and view outside would have been magic Difficult at the service desks from time to time to hear while the music was blaring! Internet. super expensive. Rating? still 10/10 from us Read Less

A small ship, 500 passengers, no children, Sea of Cortez, what could go wrong? The passengers were older. A guess of the average age was approximately 75. The attitude of the ship management. The restaurant staff, bar staff and entertainment was excellent. The cruise director and assistant were part of the show staff. The pianist was excellent. Liz, a classically trained singer has an amazing voice. There was as sign on the passenger assistance desk “the ship is is completely full, there are no up grades available”. However, several staff members told us there was only about 300 passengers on board. We were contacted three times that we didn’t have a credit card on file. Each time we talked with them they said it was on file. Our cabin was four doors down from a sixth floor fan tail outdoor sitting area. A delightful area with 180 degree view and a little bar, that was only open the last day of the cruise. Every day when I ask the head service manage when it would open, I was told tomorrow. When I informed the bar the 3 floors below that people were sitting there were sitting there the waiters would climb the stairs about every 1/2 hour. The food was was excellent but on two occasions out of about thirty three meals we received atrocious service. One lunch we missed an event due late service. The other was a dinner that we were literally forgotten by the waiter. Four of the six people were served. A entre from one couple and myself were not served. We were seated 7pm and when after about 15 minutes after the others were eating we asked about our meals. I spoke with the head waiter. About 9:15pm were finally served entres. There are 2 banks of 2 elevators aft and aft and amid ship. There is on elevator forward. THE ELEVATORS QUIT WORKING DAY TWO AND DID NOT WORK THE REST OF THE CRUISE. That’s tough on elderly people. With the exception of the two meals, attitude of the management and the elevators is was. Great cruise. The passengers on board were delightful, the entertainment and wait staff superb. Read Less

Always wanted to visit Singapore, Hong Kong and Vietnam. Picked the time of year as it was decent weather and the price was right. Been with Norwegian twice before and although not the best they do seem to give value for money. Boarded, very easily, in Singapore. Got to our balcony cabin, not the biggest but OK. Ship seemed fine. Travelled two days to the port which hosts Bangkok for an overnight stay. Back on board and sailed to a dump in Cambodia called Sihanoukville. Looked as though it had been bombed. Lots of building going on and in 15 years time it’ll be fine and populated by Chinese and casinos. On to Saigon. Waited nearly 2 hours, from 07.15, to board our coach for their Delights of Saigon tour. How disappointing both the tour and Saigon. We must have visited all the wrong places. Nah Trang next, I think, where we waited over 2 hours to be tendered ashore by only 4 lifeboats. Had a good day on the beach before waiting, in the sun, on the dockside for over a hour, in a queue to be tendered back aboard. The rest of the cruise was OK. Found the staff in Magnums bar to be good. The singer Azalea was dreadful. Seemed as though she had to finish every line of a song with a wail. Her electric guitar effort was embarrassing. Randon, was excellent. Both polished as a singer and guitar player, and an great range of music. Nothing that took our fancy in the way of shows in the theatre but I’m sure they are OK. The main dining room staff were great. Something that can’t be said for the Alizar, where we had to ask twice for drinks, finally getting one during main course. Overall it was a OK cruise let down by what could have been avoided, namely, waiting, queueing and Sihanoukville and Saigon. Read Less

After 3 years since having been on its inaugural sailing, I went with the family on a 2 night cruise out of Singapore to Bintan Island (Actually more of a gambling cruise then for the ports). Stayed in the Palace Suites once again and service has improved vastly. Upon embarkation, we were escorted from the cruise terminal through security all the way up to our cabin. This is was done by the event hostess of Resorts World group. Butlers were great, didn't use them much on this short cruise. Entertainment on board the ship was disappointingly HEAVILY catered towards the Indian demographic. The theatre show called 'Sonic' was quite impressive with acrobatics and cool stunts. Also Zouk was closed the 2nd night of sailing to host an only Bollywood themed party which was by invite or purchase tickets at the front. Didn't like that exclusivity for the Indians and lack for other races. This sailing also coincided with a Justice League themed sailing, where Justice League merchandise were on sale in shops, and decorated throughout the entire ship. It made for a good touch to appeal to families and children. Food was generally good, a significant improvement from the inaugural where we would feel that portions were too small, and free food ran out very fast on board. Portions were much better, eating at Silk Road (complimentary for Palace Suite guests). The Japanese Bento restaurant on Deck 8 was good as well, not fabulous though. However what was really the highlight was the Hotpot restaurant al fresco seating by the aft of the ship. Beautiful views of the sea going past while watching the sunset and eating good hot pot. This ship IS a gambling ship, the Casino smells of smoke and its a very strong stench be forewarned. Thats the only thing i didn't enjoy in the public venues. Also we were sailing at 4000+ pax at the time, seating in public venues were often insufficient with us needing to sit down and reserve seats for family members. This made it slightly less pleasant of an experience. Because this was a 2 night that sailed to Bintan Island (Indonesia), we decided not to get off at while tendered. It seemed like barely anybody had gotten off at Bintan, which was interesting because there were a lot of Indian families on vacation. Read Less

To get on in our home city was a great advantage as no flying was involved. The cruise to Singapore was very good with all ports interesting. The cruise back to Fremantle was enjoyable with the exception of the Cambodian Port. This was awful and to have been charged $77.00 each for a visa was disgraceful. For us and many of the other passengers who did not even get off this was a huge put off. Many said they would never go again on this leg of the cruise as the ports of Cambodia and Vietnam were cargo ports, shuttles were expensive and the visas too dear. especially for a family of 2 adults and 2 teens. The ship was beautifully decorated for Christmas. So much time and effort was put into making it a wonderful experience. The lead duo of the singers were so talented and great voices. Enjoyed the magician acts very much. So clever. The comedians so, so. The last one told jokes that I have heard many years ago and were not funny. The ship was spotless and the public areas always having someone attending to them. Every one washed their hands so we were lucky the the dreaded virus did not appear. Cabins were comfortable and so clean. Our cabin steward was exceptional Meals were enjoyable as I did not have to cook them. We have cruised many times on the Sun and been to the same places before but just wanted a break for 4 weeks. Will continue to cruise with Princess but not to the above ports if on a cruise in future. Read Less

Christmas is a difficult time with having step-families, and families unable to get together on Christmas Day, so we decided this year to do something different. We're in our autumnal years and don't do the Christmas hype, so it was brilliant to find a cruise that had us sailing away over that time - no stress! We love this idea so much we have booked another one, with Princess Cruises, for next Christmas / New Year. We are heading to New Zealand. Another thing we loved about this cruise was that it was out of Perth and we didn't have to fly anywhere; not that we mind, as a cruise is always worth it. As a writer, I find there were so many places on board to write. And looking at the beautiful ocean is very cathartic. Who wouldn't be inspired to write their next novel? The dining rooms were excellent, and the general eating area was good too. Food was in plentiful supply, so I'm thankful for elasticated waists and loose clothing! And for not having to shop, prepare and cook for over two weeks ... and at Christmas. LUXURY! The staff were incredibly friendly, yet professional, in everything they did. I also noted many acts of kindness to the very senior people on the cruise, of which there were quite a few. They were a great bunch, reliving their teenage years I think! There was a real mixture of passengers; quite a few families, and extended families as well. The Christmas spirit was alive, and the ship was decorated beautifully. Do yourselves a favour and book a cruise. You'll love it. Read Less

Leaving ship very easy well organised.Entertainment ok bands play outrageously loud no consideration of the age of guests Shore excursions very expensive just like the alcohol outrageous pricing ! The Christmas Day Lunch was disgraceful extremly disappointing. Seem to always have young cruise directors shouting at guests rather than just talking normally. No idea of the music we like to hear ie 50’s & 60’s. The age of the majority of guests certainly doesn’t lend itself to late night partying those days are long gone ! The wait staff in the main are very good although it would be great to see them smile occasionally. The pizza restaurant has gone which is a shame as it made a nice change now an extra cost. The cosy Nook bar has gone again a paid Japanese restaurant. Read Less

Princess cruise lines needs to relook at the way it does things. The Cruise Tokyo to Singapore was a good cruise but were there any memorable moments? No there were none I could tell you that related to the performance of the Cruise Liner. Why? Accounting! There policy of doing daily preauthorisation on your credit/ Debit Cards followed by a big debit at the end left me and others not smiling at the experience. Why do they need to do pre auths anyway? Most Australians after age 65 have no credit cards, only Debit Mastercard/Visa Cards. A pre auth takes the money out of your bank account. At the end of the cruise they then charge your account for the total bill. A double dip! When challenged, they say its your banks fault. You can wait up to 30 days for the pre auths to disappear. Not acceptable practice! Left a sour taste Princess. We booked two packages pre cruise. 1. A Birthday package for my wife to be in the cabin upon arrival, It was not in our cabin and no paperwork. The package arrived well after departure. No kisses for this performance. 2. An Anniversary package, deluxe version at a cost of $650 pre booked, there was no paperwork in our cabin on arrival. At guest services they were unable to find the paperwork and one of the restaurants featured only in the deluxe version was not on this ship. It was not until after three visits to customer service, we received a letter confirming we had booked the package and told the vouchers would arrive on the day of the package. On the day it was booked for, we received no vouchers only a copy of the letter sent to us earlier. The reason for advertising a different restaurant. None. The guest services found it acceptable. Not a good look Princess! The destinations were good, two destinations were berthed a long way from the facilities available requiring long and costly travel by bus/taxi. Da Nang in Vietnam we were shuttled to a run down resort location with no markets and miles from anywhere. We brokered a taxi ride with another couple, $120aud, to Da Nang for the day. We salvaged a great day from a bad start. Saigon / Ho Chi Minh City. Berthing is 1.5 hrs away. No other cruise lines in sight. Princess charged us $15USD for a shuttle to local markets, which the Tourist body had provided free. The three hr round trip into Vietnams largest city whilst onshore for only 8 hrs made this a dubious option. Besides no alternative was offered. Some of the packages required a 5 hr round trip. You basically had to leave as soon as you got there. Read Less

i must admit that the Spectrum is a marvelous ship. Well designed and beautiful. However, the management is disappointing. I have tried to contact the Guest Relations team via the official website and email. Not a ripple of response in 2 months. Here is my email which will tell my frustrations with the Cruise Line. "I am astounded to notice that you charge my credit card in Hong Kong Dollar while I had explicitly chosen the opposite during my online check in procedures. The exchange rate of you is unfavorable and my bank charge me a handling fee for billing from overseas in HK dollar! Although the amount is not too big, but it appears to me that your cruise company pay not much attention in caring your customers preferences. In addition, I do like to complain a few issues. We enquired repeatedly about the dining time and we are told 2nd dining is 7:30 pm. After boarding, we find that it is 8 pm instead. Again, no big deal, but irritates your customers. Before we board, I find no way to inform the ship that it is my Wedding Anniversary, Birthday of my sister in law etc. I want to purchase flowers for the ladies, but I think the service is not provided. After boarding, we have tried to inform the ship about the important dates, but we found no hospitality, no cards, no decorations and just nothing. It is not that in other cruise lines, including your sister line, the Celebrity. For the theater show every evening, they are scheduled 7:30pm and 9:30pm. First dining is at 5:30pm and guests have 2 hours to finish their meal. But, for 2nd dining at 8pm, we have only 90min. to rush our dinner if we want to go for the show. So, no matter how we rush with our food and how hard our waiters are rushing, we never arrive the theater on time. For the shows, many, if not the majority, guests are reserving seats for their family. It is so ridiculous for 2 to 3 kids to reserve a whole row of more than 12 seats. One evening, I went for the 7:30pm show before our specialty restaurant booking at 8:30. I and my wife attempted 4 to 5 places and just to be scolded by other guests because they RESERVED those seats. Of course, it ended in quarrels and spoiling the mood of the vacation. I really like to know the policy of your cruise line or the ship. Most important, are you enforcing your policy in any way? About the 'Silk Road', we try to book before we board. But only the paid 'VIP' version can be booked. OK! we do it on board. But, every show is FULL. Fine, other guests do their booking before us. What upsets me is my enquiry at the guest relations, after queuing up for a long while. They said that only the paid version has seats. The show is for the guests. Everyone guest should have a chance to view it. Either you add more sessions to fulfill the demand, or you make every guest to pay for the show. At least, you should arrange a waiting list that unsold seats will be released for some other guests. There are lot of other issues that are unsatisfactory, but I don't want to spend my time on them. As a customer, I don't like your cruising company. Read Less

The ship is new and beautiful. It holds 5 thousand passengers , so long lines everywhere, dinning, games embarkation and disembarkation. We were travelling during X'mas holiday so the ship was entirely sold out with 12 hundred kids on board. It was impossible to find a quiet place. The ship is catered to the Asian market and there are lots of Chinese dishes in the buffet and the main dinning room. We had one lunch in Jamie's kitchen. It is quite expensive and I don't think it is much better than the main dinning room. This was our second time on RCL and really enjoyed their nightly entertainments. It was a step above HAL. Okinawa is a nice place to shop and walk around. The 2 ports in Philipines Vigan and Subic Bay is totally waste of time. The ship is catered to younger passengers with lots of activities like rock climbing, surfing bumper car. If you want to have a relaxing cruise, then this ship is not for you Read Less

I was really excited to go on this cruise ship, as it was going to Thailand and Cambodia and starting at Singapore. It was for an affordable price and it was going to Asia, so why not! First off, the food was beyond horrible, and that’s an understatement. I’ve been on around 10 cruises and I know what good food tastes like on cruises, so when comparing it to other cruises, this one was at the very bottom. Every day they had the same exact thing for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the buffet. Usually, other cruise ships change it up a bit, but no, this one had the same exact food for 8 days... Also, the times were so short for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We basically only had 1 hour to 2 hours to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. On the other cruises we had either 4 hours or they offered a 24/7 option for those late night snacks. Dinner ended here at 8:30 and it opened at 7, the dining area was always so packed and filled with hectic people because everyone was trying to get some food at the same time... horrible. This happened every single day. Whenever we arrived back from a city we got dropped off at, it would be around 3/4 pm and we were getting a bit hungry at this point, so we would go and look for some snacks, BUT WAIT! THEY DIDNT SERVE DINNER UNTIL 7! So we had to starve and wait until then. This made me even more frustrated because they didn’t serve snacks like other cruises did at a time when people would come back from a city outside. They however had “tea time” from 5-6, but they would serve some desserts and tea and coffee... the desserts tasted like leftovers from the day before throughout the whole trip. They also only served coffee and tea during tea time and breakfast, it wasn’t served during lunch and dinner at the buffet and restaurant like how other cruises have it. Now, for the dinner reservation at the fancy restaurants. Sadly, it was also horrible. The food was just not good, it wasn’t seasoned well, their asian food was cooked by an Italian chef and he butchered it (no offense). Usually the food at the restaurant is supposed to be better than the buffet, but this cruise made it that the buffet food was a bit better than the restaurant food, which is not saying much AT ALL. I barely ate my food at the restaurant because it truly was that bad. Another thing, some crew members were so rude to me, especially the older Italian (I think?) buffet chef. I was grabbing a piece of fruit from the buffet that was closed but I didn’t know, then he goes and yells at me and just keeps raising his voice and saying “What are you doing? No, no no you can’t do that what are you doing, go to the other buffet just go” like is that how you are supposed to treat your guests? How rude. I did not appreciate that AT ALL. Just tell me excuse me but we are closed. That is all you need to tell me and I would get the point. These things made my experience unenjoyable in my opinion. The shows are good but that is about it. Restrooms are so hard to find, they either blend in with the wallpaper or they are hidden outside in a corner you can only access when going through a little alley. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. We have been to Bangkok, Viet Nam and Hong Kong before but we wanted a chance to visit Singapore. Celebrity has always been good for us so we decided to use Celebrity for this cruise. It did not start well, as the Hong Kong hotel provided by Celebrity was close to the HK cruise terminal, but it was located in a very plain neighborhood that was basically a large local area of small store, cafes but nothing very attractive. It was a good 15 minute cab or shuttle to the main shopping areas and luckily the hotel provided a shuttle bus that ran regularly. The hotel itself was very plain but clean. It would be a place for a one-night stay before a cruise but a two-day stay would have been painful. We had a Concierge class cabin that was large and very comfortable. There was plenty of storage space and the bath room was plenty large. The room was very nice and we had plenty of space to spread out our papers, computers, etc. The food on the first two or three days of the cruise in the buffet was good but repetitive. By the fourth day or so more variety was added and things got better. We ate in the Metropolitan about four times for dinner and the staff was wonderful and we want to give Chiang (spelling?) and her crew were terrific and the food was just fine. Entertainment in the main theater was excellent with a very good line up of entertainers and an excellent shipboard musical company of a very good house band and some great dancers and singers. The cruise director, Steve, was the best we have ever had on any ship on our 30+ cruises. There were not enough exercise activities like workout classes although the gym was very nice. There was a port lecturer but perhaps one more would have made things more interesting especially if it was one relating to the local economies, history and biology of the regions we visited. I thought they should have put the main theater to use by running movies in that room rather in a more distant venue. Service was uniformly excellent everywhere from the room stewards, restaurants, passenger services and excursions and things were planned very well for the excursions and pre-excursions and boarding and exiting the ship when on excursions. My husband booked cruise on Costa Victoria mainly for destination Indian Ocean I was a dubious after some of the reviews. We arrived at Mumbai Port at 11am and were allowed to board straight away. Embarkation was fast and straightforward and we headed to buffet while waiting for our cabin which was ready by 2pm. The cabin was a good size and clean. Our cabin steward always had a smile and was always very helpful. Safety drill was out on deck by allocated life boat this took sometime mainly because of waiting for passengers who took their time getting there. We were in Fantasia restaurant and our waiters Swapnil and Oscar really looked after us well. The menu was varied and so had good choice. One of the complaints we had seen was cold food but every meal we had was hot apparently the waiters have instructions that they must get food freshly plated for British and German guests as we like our food hot. It also made us smile when ordering a cappuccino the one waitress would always bring us a very hot cappuccino. We used the buffet for breakfast and a reasonable selection of hot and cold options. Lunch in the buffet was quite as a good proportion of passengers were Indian so as well as European options there was a section of Indian food as well as the grill where you could get burgers and chips. Entertainment in theatre the first week we found was ok especially the Italian tenor the second week we found not so good but that week they were trying to please be at least six different nationalities. Entertainment in the bars was good except one night the one group scheduled did not appear and it was only after passengers complained to bar staff that anyone realised there was a problem. Because most of the ports were away from the main towns we booked several excursions and found them to be good value for money and well organised. Disembarkation in Mumbai was fast and straight forward as had cleared customs in Goa. Overall an enjoyable cruise Read Less

I chose this cruise because I liked the itinerary and like Princess Cruises. I was very happy with the itinerary however the ship needs a complete refurbishment. I had a Junior Suite and the bathtub caucking was all molded ad disgusting. The balcony chairs were totally covered in bird poop and the metal casing on the balcony was rusted in many places. The suite itself is however well appointed and I loved the layout which I have had many times previously on Princess. The beds are the most amazing I have ever slept in. The pillows are marshmallow soft and the mattress is the most comfortable I have ever slept on even in 5 star hotels, just terrific. Passengers could not help but rave about the beds on this cruise. I was disappointed in the food however. The buffet is SOOOO SMALL for a cruise ship!!!! There are basically three sections plus a salad bar which I found very disappointing. Very repetitive food as well. They did have however amazing desserts. The dining-room food was mediocre at best. No decoration on the tables either, only salt & pepper, no flowers or anything decorative. Even on Christmas day there was nothing special on the table....very boring. Service was excellent however. I had taken the soda package which states you have a choice of fountain sodas and on the first day I asked for a diet sprite and was told that it was not part of the soda package!!! When I asked "Do you not have Sprite or 7-Up on this ship?" I was told "Yes but only in cans and cans are not on the soda package"...OMG HOW RIDICULOUS... the only soda on the soda package was diet coke. I was once addicted to diet coke and my doctor told me to avoid it at all cost but I was stuck having to drink it or pay for my sodas which I presumed were to be prepaid. I find this very unfair. The entertainment also was not up to par for Princess. They are know for putting on Broadway shows but none of that on this cruise. They had the usual lake lustre shows, really bad comedian as well. The worst part of the shows were that they only had one entertainer every night instead of several acts. If they had a comedian then that all there was, nothing else. If they had a singer then that was all they had nothing else. I remember the day when a show consisted of the cruise director opening with jokes, then a singer and then dancers ...a mix. Not here. Also I was on a 21 day cruise as were many others but Princess considered this two cruises. a 10 day and then an 11 day so whatever shows you saw on the first part were exactly the same on the second part which I feel is very unfair to those who paid the big bucks for a 21 day cruise getting basically 10 shows instead of 20. I had pre-booked shore excursions in each port.....most were nightmares!!!! They either left very late or did not provide what was described on their tour descriptions. I took a transfer in Bangkok which was advertised as having from 9am to 3pm in Bangkok. Well we were told to arrive in the departure lounge at 7am however we did not leave the ship until 9am!! Because of traffic we got to Bangkok at noon!!! We sill had to leave at 3pm so literally no time to see anything since traffic is so bad in the city you can barely move. Since they do this every week they should know traffic is bad and should make us leave much earlier. Stupid to drive 5 hours to and from Bangkok to only spend 3 hours there. Ridiculous! On another tour we were supposed to stop at a market with handicrafts and instead they took us to a smelly, dirty tiny fruit & vegetable market by the side of a road with no handicrafts at all...was horrible. We were supposed to stop at a Batik factory and when we were ready to get there we were told it had to be cancelled because we did not have enough time!!!! a major part of the tour was cancelled yet the smelly market was kept in....very badly organized. One main issue I have with all the tours is that we are in cities and towns with incredible people making world famous hand made items and yet no time is ever included to visit these wonderful markets which are a big part of the culture here. You should not have to choose between seeing a major monument or temple and shopping, both should be included. I am sure most people would prefer to leave earlier and not miss out on seeing the locals make beautiful items. The photographers were great and the photo package is a fabulous deal. You get all as many pictures as you want both in print and on a USB drive for $249....that was a great deal. Came home with over 40 photos. Considering these cost $25. each, the package is the best deal. Now on to the internet....OMG IT IS THE WORST!!!! It costs a fortune on this ship for internet and when you do pay $199 for 250 minutes when you open it, it takes about 10 minutes to log on and when you do it takes another 20 minutes to get what you need. It's a disaster. I need to be connected for checking work on a daily basis and since they don't have an unlimited plan, it cost me a fortune. Better to go on the Medallion Class ships which offer a reasonable unlimited high-speed internet. I love the itinerary so much I am doing the exact same itinerary this December BUT on the Grand Princess which is a Medallion Class ship with unlimited high-speed internet ...... plus the ship is gorgeous. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. No lines to stand in, was great. On arrival we were met with a glass of champagne and and escorted to our room. Our butler Terrance was excellent, nothing was too much trouble for him. We had dinner in our room on a few occasions and the menu to chose from was very varied. Our room attendant Baby Vipin always kept our room spotless. I can not complain about the food at all. The waiters were always polite and nothing was too much trouble for them. A special thankyou to the staff at The Grill who always made us laugh and whom we could joke with. Mind you the staff every where were great. There were no public rooms that were ever crowded and you always greeted with smiles. Nothing was too much trouble for them. On one occasion only i did not like a particular red wine. It was replaced with a different one to our liking. We have been on a few cruises but i have to admit this cruise line stands above them all. It has spoilt us now that we will only sail with them again. A BIG thank you to them all. LOVED IT Read Less

the itineraries were amazing, lots of different places we have always wanted to go then there was a fire in the engine room transformer which was dealt with quickly but the repercussions were we had to sail at a reduced speed which meant three of our excursions were canceled with an extra two days at sea. The itineraries were the only reason we paid nearly six thousand pounds to spend twenty-four hours on an aeroplane to board the ship and the cruise experience was ruined. What made it worse was the paltry £250 each Tui told us we would receive without consultation and when everybody complained I overheard, with witnesses, the captain saying loudly he would be glad when all the moaners left his ship. True. The same captain who knew his ship had the same problem a year before and TUI still sent the ship out in the hope it wouldn`t happen again. They gambled and failed with the resultant ruination of our cruise. If I wanted to spend five days at sea I would have chosen a cheap and cheerful Med cruise. Tui In our opinion should never have sent that ship out without ensuring the transformer problem was addressed properly. They didn`t and will have to pay the consequences. Marella Discovery and two fires in twelve months is negligent in my opinion and would not go with TUI Marella again. The entertainment was average and the staff and waiters were mostly eastern Europeans who do not smile Unfortunately the Asian staff seemed to copy them and made for a depressing cruise. The captain was arrogant and the food not up to standard, proved by a notice in the self service restaurant which asked passengers to stop leaving so much waste on their plates! Shocking. Read Less

The vessel, food, and staff are magnificent. The vessel is extremely handsome without being ostentatious. Space per passenger is extraordinary; didn't feel crowded. Buffet almost always had extraordinary choices. Specialty restaurants were good but often booked. The "standard" restaurant was excellent and we never waited more than 10 minutes to be seated; often no wait at all. The bakery is astounding. My wife is French. We hardly ever find "real" croissant, pain au chocolat, or baguette outside of her country. Orion had all that. Also, perfect donuts and rolls. Desserts were varied and good. Cookies were awesome. Three stars for value is because it's a premium experience for a premium price. Their systems need some work. We booked three back-to-back cruises. We had different cabins for each leg. Didn't want it that way but had no choice. (That's not exactly a complaint, just setting context.) We booked excursions and restaurant reservations before leaving home. They lost reservations for legs 2 and 3. For seven weeks of cruising I wrote about five pages of troubles where things weren't right. I'm a nerd so doubt anyone else would have got to page 5 but I did. Their capacity for taking passengers on and off is insufficient, slow. Excursions were well run. Entertainment was good. The vessel, food, and staff are magnificent. I won't be surprised to book them again. Read Less

We chose this cruise to celebrate my 60th birthday. Good points 1) very good service and meals at the traditional sitting (7.30 pm) 2) good company once again at the traditional setting 3) ship is clean and continually being maintained to keep it up to date. The sun princess was built in 1995 and is in good condition considering its age 4) The crew were polite and courteous as we have grown accustomed to with princess cruises Bad points 1) The wine list has become too expensive for the average working man as far as I am concerned. The cheapest cabernet sauvignon was a french wine ($42/bottle) and it was terrible. We found a decent South Australian wine from the Coonawarra but it cost $55/bottle. Princess used to provide decent Australian wines for $30/bottle which I was happy to pay but $55/bottle? We did not drink much this time. 2) We toured SE Asia and the cruise was not sympathetic to my wife who is disabled with rheumatoid arthritis. She was stranded on the ship for 8 of the 11 ports. The buses in Asia are not disabled-friendly. If you are not active then forget SE Asia. 3) You get ripped off at every port due to the cartel having first options for taxi services. Be patient and walk an extra 10 - 15 minutes and you might get a fair deal. The monopoly of the few needs to be broken. 4) The tours are too expensive. It is time competition was allowed into the ports for those who wish to explore on there own. Let a cruise become more of an adventure in this globalised world. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the cheap price that was offered at the time of booking. It was disappointing from start to finish. The embarcation was a shamozole. No one seemed to know what they were doing. The food in the buffet section was very ordinary to some other ships we have been on. The lines were long and you had to be lucky to find a seat to sit down on. I will say that the restaurant's are very good and food is ok. I also was disappointed in the lack of communication from the staff when ordering a cake for my wife's birthday which never turned up. They did however try to compensate by decorating our room and supplying Chocolate roses to my wife to try to smooth things over. We probably will not cruise with Carnival again and go with the more upmarket ships such as Princess or Holland America. Read Less

Have been on HAL cruises before and wanted to see some Asian ports. Would not recommend cabin 4166 if you are inclined to suffer seasickness. This ship was very clean and staff were cheerful and helpful. Our cabin stewards were outstanding and the well trained dining room staff always make sure your dining is enjoyable. Also,The Pinnacle is well worth the extra expense for at least one night. Didn't have one meal that wasn't of a high standard and am missing being spoiled now that we are home! We thought the entertainment was very good, especially the singers and dancers. Didn't expect the comedian to be as good as he was...a very pleasant surprise.Billboard on Board had two very talented people and BB King's Blues Club has a great band of eight. On port days there wasn't as much entertainment but we were tired after excursions so didn't really mind. Disappointed there is no longer a decent library on board. Jeremy's presentations of what to do in the ports, along with the history of the area, is very informative. We did some HAL tours and some independently organised tours. There are for and against for both, but the ship's tours are more expensive than they should be, so check out other options before you book. Our embarkation time was well after lunch so we were not happy with that and once on board we had the emergency drill so it felt like the day was wasted. This cruise we used the gym and participated in the stretching classes as well. Other interesting activities included flower arranging and of course the very popular America's Test Kitchen. We are already looking at where we would like to cruise to next, and yes, it will be on HAL. Read Less

Booked this cruise for its itinerary to asia. Rooms are bigger than usual but Westerdam is smaller than other ships we have sailed with so we felt more rocking at sea. Service was excellent, our safe stopped working and they sent someone to fix it within 5 minutes. Food in the dining room was very good and much better than the Lido buffet. Pizza was good but pasta and lasagna were terrible in the Lido buffet. Entertainment and activities were geared towards an older crowd. The Westerdam's shore excursions in Halong Bay and Da Nang were very good but expensive. We did taxi tours in other ports because they were half the price of Westerdam's shore excursions. We also pre-booked a tour in Phu My port going to Vung Tau and Minh Dam mountain with Zoom from dungzoom@gmail.com which turned out to be way better than any of Westerdam's shore excursions and at less than half the price. Not only did Zoom provide free bottled water , but his tour was flexible and did not stop at any unwanted jewelry/art shops. Westerdam's shore excursions did not provide free bottled water (ship charged $5USD for a bottle of water), and made unwanted stops at overpriced jewelry/art shops. Zoom's tour was the best of all the tours we went on. The worst tour that we went on was the Hong Kong tour and airport transfer offered by Westerdam. It only made two stops at tourist sites for less than half an hour each. At the second site, we were told that we would have to pay extra for the taxi boat ride. Then it made a stop at an overpriced jewelry store for an hour. That was our whole tour! We weren't too happy that we paid $99USD per person to be forced to waste an hour of our time at an overpriced jewelry store. We spent more time at the jewelry store than we did at any tourist site. We would've done much better had we taken a taxi. Read Less

This was the 3rd HAL cruise we had taken, and an excellent experience. All ship's amenities were beyond expectation. Any mechanical issue, such as a banging door on the veranda, were taken care of immediately. Our cabin steward, Gede, was superbly attentive to our requests and needs. The dining room staff which included our waiter, Antoni, his assistant waiter, Ferry, and our wine steward, Joseph, were professional and not obsequious. Very knowledgeable and helpful with regards to our individual eating habits and requirements. The Neptune Lounge was an added perk, and one worth the money. Sarah and John were always ready to lend a hand. They were a joy to work with. Our only complaint would be the unnecessary need to stop and shop at gem and jewelry shops at the end of an excursion. The added excursion to Angkor Wat, Cambodia, was the most spectacular addition to our cruise. The accommodations were excellent and the guide, Savi, could not have been better. Easy to understand, knowledgeable, and most helpful. Read Less

Staff were generally friendly and passionate about their jobs 4. Ship was squeaky clean and well maintained 5. Gym was impressively equipped and had a awesome view 6. Solarium is an interesting concept but probably a tad too warm for Southeast Asia weather 7. Food is generally above average 8. Checking in and out was a breeze 9.
