We anticipated this cruise that was years in the planning. It was postponed several times due to Covid . Finally, on the fourth attempt at booking this "bucket list" travel event, we succeeded in getting aboard what was touted as an upscale ship rated a 10 for its culinary excellence. This was my 2nd time on Jewel, after near to 6 years which I had sailed on the same ship in Australia. This time, Jewel was embarked at the new Tokyo International Cruise Terminal. The registration at the terminal was assisted by the local Japanese who are mostly volunteers. The waiting time wasn’t that long, we managed to board the ship within an hour.

As usual, I looked at this cruise for the destinations first, then Silversea's policy of having no single supplements on some of their cruises. Why all lines don't have this, I can't understand - it's the best marketing idea ever. We had a wonderful experience with Silversea cruising the Baltic before they were recently bought by Royal Carribean, but our recent experience was absolutely the WORST ever even on lines with fewer stars. Note that the Royal Carib is now the most profitable of the big cruise lines, and it appears this profit is being extracted by cost cutting and penurry.

We boarded in HK and we were two couples, staying in the Silver Suites. The flights out were with Emirates in Business class and all went super smoothly with the pickup, checkin and transfers in HK. This was our fourth cruise with Princess, and the most disappointing one.
In general, the whole cruise was mediocre. Check in took about 40 minutes and we were not in the peak period.
Room was reasonably clean but some furniture are showing wear and really tired. There was a cold ' Hello ' with the steward, but after I gave a 50 dollars tip the next day, I get some smile.

The ports in Japan were outstanding and the time of the year was perfect for us. The weather is also lovely in Japan in October. The stop in South Korea was a great bonus.
