Liberty of the Seas

Part of Royal Caribbean's popular Freedom Class, Liberty of the Seas is a cruise ship for fun-lovers that encourages you to get in on the action. With 3,363 other passengers, it falls into the realm of megaship, but because of its sheer size, it can offer stellar entertainment at sea, including multiple movie theaters, classes in scratching records or baking cupcakes, a huge water park and even an ice rink. Read these five cruise tips to see what makes Liberty of the Seas special.

Liberty of the Seas - Cow Cabin

Tip 1: Stay in the Cow Butt Cabin

If you love ice cream and have a good sense of humor, you'll fall head over hooves for the Ben & Jerry's "Sweet" (room 6305), affectionately referred to as "Cow Butt Cabin" because it has views overlooking the promenade -- as well as the backsides of the Ben & Jerry's bovines. Along with plenty of dairy-themed decor, perks of staying in this cabin include access to the cow-cierge (ok, Concierge) Lounge and two vouchers every day for the length of your sailing for free Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Mmmm! (Or should we say, "Mmmmooo!")

Liberty of the Seas - 3D Movie

Tip 2: Catch a Flick in the 3D Theater

Sure, Liberty has a huge outdoor movie screen by the main pool, found on many cruise ships. But not many ships offer an indoor 3D movie theater, where your favorite characters come leaping off the screen. Royal Caribbean's partnership with DreamWorks means the ship offers the latest animated features, including the wisecracking Penguins of Madagascar, Shrek and more.

Liberty of the Seas - FlowRider

Tip 3: Live Out Your Wildest Athletic Dreams

Whether your sports hero is a basketball player, golfer, surfer, boxer or ice skater, you can follow in their dribbles, golf swings and wake with the wildly active offerings on Liberty of the Seas. Start a pickup game on the ship's full-size b-ball court; play a round of mini-golf with the family; punch a few bags in the full-size boxing ring; or even hit the ice at the onboard skating rink. Royal Caribbean's signature rock climbing wall and FlowRider surf simulator are sure to eke out any remaining adrenaline.

Liberty of the Seas - Scratch Academy

Tip 4: Learn to DJ

Scratch Academy is a well-known New York-based DJ institute, and you can take advantage of its expertise onboard with free lessons. Available to teens and adults, the classes allow the onboard DJs to school you in the art of scratching. Teens who have picked up a trick or two at Fuel, the onboard teens-only club, might even have the chance to perform a set. Check the Compass, your daily cruise newsletter, for times and locations.

Liberty of the Seas - Cupcake Cupboard

Tip 5: Participate in Pastry-Making

There are 30 rotating varieties of cupcakes at Liberty of the Seas' vintage-style onboard bakery, Cupcake Cupboard, at any given time. Sure, you could simply indulge in a key lime pie or bubblegum version for $2.50 apiece, or you could command those calories with a cupcake-decorating class. Design tiny, sugary replicas of puppies or hamburgers (a perfect way to exercise that food photography), and then devour them with glee in this hourlong course. We recommend booking as early as possible; the fee for the class is $22 for adults and $11 for children 4 to 10 years old.
