We arrived early at 10am and it was starting to get busy already. Parked at the terminal car park which was £49 for the 3 nights and worth the extra £10 instead of using the shuttle bus car park. Luggage was collected from our car and we walked to the Ship which took 5 mins max. There were staff with iPad's checking people in at the door but we like many others, were just waved through to security and then held in an area before we got on the Ship. This new check-in process with the iPad's is a free for all. There is no real order or queue and the lady who checked us in had to go and get another iPad as it stopped working. Very annoying! Eventually we got on board. CABINS: We had 2 single balcony cabins on Deck 6. They were quite spacious and clean as they were still new. Lovely bathrooms, beds and dressing area. Only had a stool and no proper chair which was annoying. Balconies spacious with footrests. Unfortunately both our cabins had obstructed views (of the lifeboats and arms) but they were not sold to us as obstructed or partially obstructed so this was disappointing. Book deck 7 or above! Giant flat screen TV's which we didn't turn on until the last day when I discovered a channel which just flicks between cameras on the Ship and in the venues such as the North Star. I would recommend watching this just for a laugh. A handful of people knew where the cameras were as they waved. Be warned that you do need to pull the cabin doors shut or they do not close on their own. WOW wristbands handy for getting back in the cabin without looking through my bag for my card. Annoying having to have the card in the slot for the lights though. FOOD - generally good, not great. We ate breakfast in Cafe 270 which was just below us on decks 4/5 instead of trekking up to the Windjammer which was busy. OK if you just want cereal or indeed a sandwich for lunch. Tried Jamie's Italian one night and that was good, staff excellent but to be honest the free restaurants were just as good quality. The windjammer seemed to have the same food every day but it was OK. Once you got the hang of where everything was located it was OK but most people seemed a bit lost. There was a teenager on one of those awful hover board things which I am sure are banned but the staff seem to turn a blind eye to most things rather than enforce the rules. FUTURE CRUISE DESK - had decent onboard savings of a third off this time so we booked the maiden voyages on Ovation and Harmony for next April and May. Previously, the discounts were no better than we could get online. Other Ship facilities: All were very good in fairness. Flow rider, the Sky Diving, North Star, Bumper cars, games rooms, XBOX, sports court, etc. The North Star got very busy but we went up as soon as it opened the next day and only had to wait about 15 minutes. They make everyone step on scales to be weighed which seems a bit silly. I think the weight limit is 300lbs but surely they can see most people are less than half that! Perhaps it is just a reminder not to eat too much on the cruise! Great view up there - remember to wave to the camera for the cabin TV's. Bumper cars were awesome - my Dad loved them! As the sports court is also used for bumper cars, roller skating and other things, sessions were only 2 hours max and when busy you spent most of that time queuing. Unfortunately we didn't realise it was half term when we booked last April 2014 (neither did RC or the price would have been double I'm sure) so there were quite a few children about but most seemed well behaved. Shows were just OK, the one in the main theatre was about half hour too long. View ruined by a column in front of me so left early. Robot drinks maker never seemed to work. I haven't seen a review yet where they work! They were always on charge or being worked on. How long before this is replaced by another money spinning gimmick. INTERNET/ROYAL ID APP - Tried the Royal IQ app out on my iPhone and it worked well for booking shows. I thought I had pressed the wrong button as it had reserved us dinner on 2 nights in different venues. However, the cabin steward explained they do this automatically. I cancelled them anyway! Unless you purchase the $15 (£10) per day Wi-fi package, you need to put your iPhone on Airplane mode which means you cannot use it for call and texts etc. So I used to switch airplane mode off an on again as I refuse to pay that much for internet use and it's free in most of the ports anyway! Total chaos on the last evening with everyone trying to use up their on board credits. The shops were queueing all the way around to the tills and everyone was hot and bothered. I think some of the issue was due to the future cruise desk applying the on board credits when booking another cruise onto the current cruise! Not a good idea and RC should be ashamed of the shambles that ensued on the last night. For some reason we were not allowed to purchase alcohol and all purchases were subject to 20% VAT. I need to refresh myself on the rules as I thought they were duty free! PORTS: This was just a 3 night cruise so it was the 'usual' Zeebrugge and Le Harve. We took the little train car that was by the Ship in Le Harve around the town. We didn't go far as really just wanted to explore the new Ship and have been to these ports loads before. Plenty to do if you want to though. Tourist info all on shore. DISEMBARKATION They allocate you a time to depart and direct you to a lounge to wait to be called to exit. However, we just walked off straight from our cabin as we usually do with no issues. OVERALL- beautiful Ship, absolutely massive. People said on the forums and indeed on the Ship to us that Independence is better. We haven't yet been on Independence (will try next year) so cannot agree or disagree but the layout of some of the restaurants and areas near the front of the Ship does seem a bit messy. Having been on many other RC Ships, I can say it still has the same feel about it as those and it didn't feel much bigger at all compared to Explorer of the Seas which we went on earlier in the year (but that is also a big Ship). First off Anthem was absolutely beautiful, everywhere I looked there was something amazing to see. I didn't particularly enjoy this cruise as much as others, mainly because I didn't think they had enough activities going on. Considering this was a showcase 3 night sampler I thought day entertainment was poor. This could also be due to me knowing what the usual entertainment is. Did the North Star as soon as they opened it at Southampton nice gimmick. We didn't manage to do roller booting as every-time we went were were told it was full, this was getting there as early as 15 minuets into the start. Eventually managed to get on the bumper cars on the last night. I really wanted to try Puzzle break but couldn't see this listed, went by a number of times and nobody was there until the last evening when the sign was out but the door was locked. I felt everybody wanted to do everything which was totally understandable but I don't think they put the activities on enough for the demand. Dining-didn't enjoy this, missed the the relaxed enjoyable atmosphere, I had pre-booked our times, got to each dining room 5 mins prior to time but then there was a long que, people that had turned up much earlier to their booking time was escorted in first, what is the purpose of asking people to book if they aren't working to the system. I felt very rushed at each restaurant Chic, American Icon and Silk. We were seated then with a few minuets we were asked for our meal choices. Also didn't appreciate the amount of times a manager would come by or stand by our table shouting down a phone. The waiters seemed to be rushing around. The relaxed atmosphere has been lost. Windjammer for breakfast, well what a stressful affair, quing around one station then having to join another que at another station to finish off your selection for breakfast. This wont stop me cruising on RCI but I think I will stick to the longer ones in the Caribbean, although I did do a 4 night on Independence a few years back to Ireland it was a different feel to this one. Also have to say the shows were amazing and my daughter really enjoyed them too. Was really impressed with the wi-fi, thank goodness to this as I think I may have had a bored teenager on my hands. Our room 9504 outside cabin under the bridge, lovely laid out room, a little larger than the usuals, loved the massive window with great views. Read Less

Just to sample a mega ship, we booked the 3 day sampler cruise for my birthday. Embarkation was simplicity itself, formalities quickly competed , and we were on board by late morning , looking forward to all the well publicised innovative features . As rooms were not quite ready, we went for lunch in the spacious Windjammer cafe which offered soups and good salad choices ,but ,for a non meat eater, was disappointed by merely one fish option, but there were many meat and spicy vegetarian choices. There were plenty of dessert options and a good range of fresh fruits. After lunch, we made our way to our cabin, a forward Deck 8 balcony, which to our delight was very sheltered ,being one of those with a circular opening. The cabin was long and narrow, but very pleasantly furnished and fitted , done in shades of cream and deep nautical blue. We found the bed to be comfortable, but would have preferred much softer pillow. The tv had very limited channel choice, and expensive pay for view films. We had , like most passengers , prebooked dining and activity choices, so looked forward to the I fly experience the following day. We explored the top decks , the pool deck and the public areas mid ships. We watched a few intrepid souls try out the flow rider, deciding against, and watched the giggling groups waiting their turn on the Ifly skydiving , which looked really exciting. There were few guests waiting,so we relived our childhood fairground memories and rode on the bumper cars, finding it strange that the whole thing was controlled and time limited to just 1 minute. Very disappointing! Late afternoon , the mandatory drills were conducted in several venues, and on leaving the showroom , we discovered one of this ship's major drawbacks... The lack of a large central atrium means that guests end up being funnelled through a much narrower space, passing shops. It felt like Oxford street on Saturdays . As we are Diamond members, we were delighted by the Diamond lounge, charming service, good canapé range and free flowing wines and cocktails. We were thrilled to realise that the welcoming Concierge had been on previous of our RCCL cruises. Dining that night was in the Chic dining room, with good menu choices, decent dishes , but dreadful hurried service, we felt as if they wanted to get us in and out in record time. The IFly experience was just as good as we'd expected it to be, with everything properly explained, competent friendly instructors and proper equipment provided. As it was a chilly day, we took the tram and then a stroll round busy Blankenberge, of course buying some of Belgium's wonderful chocolates , rather than take the train to Bruges. Back on board , we opted for taking a swim in the smallish indoor pool, but were put off somewhat by the children dive bombing from the top of the rails above. We dined in the Grande , finding it a lovely dining room with much better service, again , good menu choices and it was a delight to see so many guest had decided to make it a formal occasion. The show we enjoyed that night was a fabulous production of We Will Rock You, wonderfully staged and with outstanding female cast members . Later we watched in fascination as the Bionic bar mixed drinks, which seemed to take far, far longer than a real barman would, and few customers were buying! We decided on our last day that we just had to be brave and queue to ride on the North Star, but queuing for 90 mins is no joke in a cold breeze, and it was so unfair that so many large groups had one member " saving their place" , joining when texted. RCCL needs to address this issue , particularly on short cruises, and enable prebooking of a time slot. We enjoyed a short cruise on this mega ship, but would we repeat? No! Our impression was that the ship carries several hundred too many for the facilities to cope with, the lack of an atrium presents logistical problems, and the crowding need addressing . It will be interesting to read reviews from passengers who experience a rainy cruise. Read Less

Being a Diamond Plus Member as I was looking forward to sampling the New Ship, and also seeing all the new technology. We were not dissapointed !! the ship was amazing but not sure about the light blue hull though ?? makes it look wishy washy .... Our check in was really fast, and as we were in a Grand Suite the room itself was the best suite I have ever stayed in !! with fantastic lighting and loads of space. Technology was working ie, the RFID Bands but we still had a Room Card which was also RFID so did not understand why we had two types of charging mechanism ?? but as the cruise went on I understood through technology gremlins why this was the case with several crashes of the computer system and the inability to book things through the room system. However this did not affect us as we had already booked everything prior to boarding . Now I am NOT a dynamic dining fan but I do see the benefits when it works correctly, however I feel this ship has lost its identity as: 1. It was too full and waiting 5-10 minutes every time I wanted a drink was tiring in the end 2. The Music Hall venue plus every other venue was constantly full and it was not pleasant moving around a crowded ship 3. Technology paying for a drink was slow and sometimes did not even work which caused further delays at the bar itself. 4. If you class this size of ship against the likes of the Independance which has far more space and makes you feel like you can breath, this ship uses every spare inch of space, is the same tonnage as the Independance, but has nearly 1000 passengers more than the Indy then you can see my point. Personally there was too many passengers on this ship for the space available, and unfortunately I will not be sailing on the Quantum Class again. I would rather stick with the Freedom or Oasis class of ship. A cruise is also a personal experience and I feel this was lost on this trip and due to the number of passengers on board it certainly was NOT relaxing. In its favour was the class of the fittings and carpets which was sumptous and the 270 cafe was the best, but strangley the area is carpeted and passengers were dropping food and drinks everywhere which was ruining the carpet area? Windjammer was crazy and again due to the quantity of passengers onboard this was heralding loads of complaints from disgruntled passengers, who were eating breakfast in the corridor with plates on their knees! I am glad the Indy is back in Southampton, as I would not want to take a longer trip on this ship than is needed, as I think I would suffer with Cabin Fever and claustrophobia. Most of the staff were really good and the speciality dining was excellent. In fact the Chefs Table was one of the highlights of this cruise, and I am certainly glad I had prebooked most things before boarding. I did actually enjoy the weekend as a break ... but would I return on this class of ship again? the answer is not ... I would rather stick to other classes and my trial experience reached its objective without investing a considerable amount of money on a longer trip. Again ... Smoking in the Casino ruined any type of playing experience due to the terrible smell and I cannot understand the reasoning behind this, as smokers are in the minority on a ship now, and I have no intention of breathing in their fumes which must cost the the Cruise Line money now as I had no intention of staying in it. I am a RCL loyalist but I have a choice, and I am glad I have already booked the Harmony for my next cruise as a holiday is now a restricted choice for most people now, so booking the right one is critical. From start to finish every second of the cruise was amazing. The technology brilliant, from spectacular shows, robot bars, and WOW bands (wrist bands which you used electronically to pay for items, get in and out of your stateroom). As a wheelchair user the whole ship was accessible! All staff were so attentive to detail, polite and respectful (which is more than can be said about an American traveller who was rather rude to anyone he saw with a disability... ). The ports were stunning! Gibraltar, Rome, La Spezia/Pisa/Florence, Cadiz, Vigo, Lisbon, Marseille, Cartagena (in no order), Royal Caribbean had considered the time needed each port, and length of time sailing, and I must say the mix perfect! Many people on here were unhappy with Dynamic Dining, I loved it! All of the restaurants fabulous and unique, I had booked a number of evening, especially the Grand for dress up evenings. Other nights we arrived at our choice for that day, depending on what we fancied, and with new friends found onboard we were ushered in, no wait, the food fabulous. I was a bit put out when booking my next cruise and was asked at what time would I like to dine. Even so I'm sure the next cruise will be brilliant too, end of the day your cruise is what you make it, I cannot understand how anyone had anything at all to complain about. I highly recommend! I have sailed with RC twice before and with Norwegian the week before this taster cruise. Managed to book 2 Obstructed Balcony Cabins (DO) at a great price, 6 months before departure. Travelled with 2 daughters (11 and 13) and mom. Parked less than 5 minutes walk from ship where staff took care of our luggage. We arrived quite late (2.45pm), but as I had already uploaded our Sea Pass pictures during online check in, we skipped the queue and just passed security to board the ship. We found our Sea Passes in an envelope outside our cabin and WOWBand were inside the cabins. Both cabins were large with double/twin beds plus a sofa. Nice decor and shower was a good size. Plenty of wardrobe space, draws, desk had 1 x Europe Plug Port, 2 x US Plug Ports plus 2 USB Ports, ideal for phones and tablets. We had a wonderful Stateroom Attendant (Agus) who always found time to have a chat with us. We had already booked our activities, entertainment and dining options as soon as they became available online. We were on one of the 1st sessions on RipCord by iFly - must do and for any age! There was a standby queue for anyone without a booking. We also found time to try the Bumper Cars, Trapeze, North Star and FlowRider (wristband needed for latter). Spectre's Cabaret was amazing in the wonderful Two70 venue - very open and spacious. We Will Rock You was a great show, standard on par with West End shows. We had booked American Icon Grill, The Grande and Silk in advance with our preferred times and had no problem changing Silk to an earlier time slot on the last evening. Food was best in Silk and the service we received was very good overall. We were given some On Board Credit at time of booking, which did not show up on our cabin account. Went to Guest Services around 9.30pm (only 2 guests in front of me) and it was rectified the next morning. At other times I did see big queues as mentioned by other reviewers. Ports of Call: Zeebrugge (for Bruges) and Le Havre. Zeebrugge - Get the free shuttle bus from ship to port gate, wait for taxi, €50 fixed price to Bruges. Managed to get a 7 seater and shared with a couple from the ship. We split the cost. Advise to prebook return taxi with same taxi driver or ask them for a number to call. Le Havre - Stayed on ship to use the facilities and I've already been to Le Havre last year. Not much to do there. If you have time, prebook everything as soon as possible like we did. Everything went smoothly for us. Also download the Royal IQ App onto smartphones/tablets to access Ship information (using RoyalWifi - free on board) and details of all your booked restaurants, activities and shows as well as cabin account. Overall we had a fantastic time on Anthem of The Seas and would book a longer duration next time. The kids managed to try most things they wanted to. Loved all the Technology on board. Ship was very stable even during a light storm on 1st night. We're hoping to try Harmony of The Seas or Ovation of The Seas next year. Read Less

I am one of the few people who does not have many negative things to say about anthem. My wife and I are emerald members of the crown and anchor society so have done several RCL cruises. We took our best friends who had never cruised before so were worried after reading all of the bad reviews. Boarding was quick even though they had problems with computer. It took about 40 minutes and we were on the ship and what a ship she is. Nothing like any other RCL ship we have been on. We had the basic drinks package as did many others and yes there were several merry people but at no stage did we think it was like 'butlins'. I am not sure why people use it as a comparison. The food in the windjammer, the American icon grill, Silk and Devanly Secadence was spot on. As was the café 270. We saw 'We will rock you' and 'spectras caberet' & we thought both were fantastic. Staff were friendly but I do agree that getting a drink took longer than we have normally experienced. We noticed that there were not many waiters walking around to serve you but it did not cause a problem. The staterooms were beautiful and had plenty of storage for a longer cruise. we went in the pod which was good but we were in port and it was raining so not the best time to ride it. We also did the 'I fly' which was amazing and the guys who work there were great. leaving the ship was also painless, it took about 10 minutes and were off. All in all we had a fantastic weekend on Anthem as did our friends. The weather was rubbish but we had plenty to keep us occupied. It's a shame I worried about so much before we went as I did not experience any of the negative things other reveiwers have mentioned. Read Less

I have been on several RC cruises, and this has been the first time I left feeling disappointed. Dining Based on my experience, I would say avoid dynamic dining. We warily decided to try it on this cruise. Within two hours of boarding we attempted to book our dining choices using the "iPad" terminals. We were extremely disappointed to find that the only dining time available on all three nights was 9:45pm, and that there was no availability at all for our first choice restaurant (The Grand) on any night. Being a Platinum Crown & Anchor member, I expressed my disappointment to the onboard C&A "Ambassador". Their response was to "note" my complaint, and tell me that they are not able to assist with restaurant queries. As an example of the service on day 1, having no choice but to dine late, we arrived at our restaurant as scheduled at 9:45pm. After another 15 minute wait, we were led to a table. Our waiter gave us a menu and then did not return for some time. I complained to a manager that we had been waiting almost half an hour since sitting down without anyone arriving to take our drink orders. Finally, our order was taken, but I was very surprised when the waiter came back five minutes later to tell us that the restaurant had run out of Diet Coke - a first for me. More generally, the dining experience does not rival the older ships (especially Independence of the Seas) at all. Having multiple main dining rooms on one ship means you lose the sense of scale and uniqueness found in the "signature" dining room on older ships. Little things like the waiter offering a choice of breads have also been removed, lowering the feeling of quality. Instead, we received a basked of plain bread at each meal. The Windjammer also seemed much busier than on older ships. Almost every time we visited, we needed to circle the restaurant for up to half an hour before finding a table. We then had to queue for significant lengths of time at the most popular food stations, and often when getting to the front found that popular options were empty and needed replenishment from the kitchens. Over and over on every day, the manager would keep announcing that as the Windjammer was so busy, customers should leave as soon as they finished their food to make room for others. This just added to the level of stress when dining. Inclusive room service was also a nice feature on earlier cruises - on this ship, extra payment is required for the majority of options. Onboard activities Again we were disappointed in comparison to previous cruises, due to the perceived number of guests relative to the availability of activities. An example - we tried to attend the pub quiz but it was so full we had to leave. Learning from that experience, we arrived half an hour early for the music quiz on another day. Again, no seats were available, so we were forced (along with other guests) to sit on the floor to participate. The "observation pod" was a good experience, but again required us to queue for a long time to experience it. Staff service The staff seemed to be much busier than on earlier cruises, and this was reflected in the service. As an example, on our last RC cruise our waiter would always have brief conversations with us in the evening, and on a couple of occasions when we struggled to decide on a menu choice, surprised us by bringing the alternative option on a small plate as well our first choice. On this cruise, the waiters seemed extremely busy, and only concerned with taking our order as quickly as possible. Another example - on the final night, I needed to visit guest services as an incorrect charge had been added to my bill. I wanted to query this when I got home, but the onboard system states that all queries must be raised before we left the ship. There was a very long queue at guest services (taking almost an hour for me to be served), and only one member of staff working. Other customers were getting extremely angry with the wait and approaching the desk - the only response by the staff member was to tell them they needed to get back in line or come back tomorrow as no other staff were available. Given the early departure, this is impossible for many customers, and I would have expected RC to anticipate multiple account queries on the final night. Read Less

We have sailed many times now with Royal Caribbean, however this time we took our Son, Daughter-in-law and their 2 children for their 1st cruise experience. Although check in had a technical glitch very early on departure day, this took very little time for them to sort it out and were still on by 10-45am. Food; considering there were 6 of us we never had a problem in finding a table in the Windjammer, the food was very varied at Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner meal times, no problem with quantity or quality at this venue. We also used the 270 venue for lunch which was fantastic, only wish we had used this earlier on the trip. The venue itself is very airy and open planned, with very good views at the rear of the ship. Also used the Silk restaurant for evening dinner, they made us and the children feel very welcome, the food itself was lovely only downside for us it felt perhaps a little rushed. On the morning of departure we used the American Icon restaurant, and all I can say is wish we had used this before as well, fantastic. Rooms; Inside stateroom with virtual balcony a 1st for us, and a new concept on cruising. This made the room feel quite airy, and not in the least claustrophobic as I felt it may have been. Entertainment; Cant say too much about this except WOW! If you are going on this Ship make sure you see "Spectra's Cabaret" absolutely brilliant. It is worth booking in advance for shows, activities and dining to ensure you are not disappointed. Great ship for Family groups, do not expect it to be quiet for Adults only, so may not suit all. Could get bookings in restaurants or shows because they were overbooked, We have done many cruises with Royal Caribbean but they are more concerened with taking your money than looking after you. Carribean and filipino ones were only ones happy and helpful. Even food was nowhere near as good as my last two yearly cruises on independence of the sea. Everyone we spoke to that had been on IOTS prefferred it, only thing that was better was the entertainment and look of ship. There were however no parades, no ice skating shows. You will not get any sleep on the ship as toilet system makes very loud noises when anyone from other cabins flush tjheir toilets during the night. Im sure they tested this ship on the english as if this ship had gone to america, they wouldve sued Royal Carribean. Read Less

As a Diamond member who is loyal to RCI I was expecting great things from this ship, however, I was very disappointed. Positives - lovely interior, great balcony cabin, some good service in restaurants such as Jamie's and Chic. Entertainment was fantastic. Negatives - Children ran riot throughout the ship. Leaving plates in lifts, congregating in stairways. The 1am curfew was not enforced. Restaurants - service in American Icon was terrible. The waiter barely spoke to us and our food was so rushed it felt like it was practicly thrown on the table. Reserving of sun beds - this is a major problem. I had to get up at 7am to have any chance of getting a sun bed. I watched couples argue over them as staff watched and did nothing about it. Technology - the app did not work most of the time. The internet was fast when it worked but this was not vey reliable . They did refund my costs. Diamond lounge - Again kids were being allowed in there which has never been the case on other ships! Overall - This ship has potential to be good, however, the RCI policies need to be consistently applied by staff which in this case they are not. Read Less

If you have a young family or looking for a completely relaxing vacation them I would stay away. Book a villa with a pool and chill out! I have travelled with RCI before and loved it but this year was defiantly a let down. Apart from my young girls getting dived bombed, sworn at and hurt by marauding teenagers, (Security was non existent and guest services couldn't care less), the overall experience was poor. Yes there are some wonderful thing's on board but my family /vacation time is precious and i cant afford to waste it. You cant relax and sunbathe, because there aren't enough sunbeds. you cant watch your small children in the pool because you cant get close to it. I came back and immediately booked a week by the pool to get over it! RCI has defiantly lost the magic - i agree with the a previous review - Butlins at sea! Bobby Davro on the last night was the final nail. i thought we left that kind of humour back in the 1980's - who are they going to book next time Roy Chubby Brown? Read Less

Firstly can't understand all the negative views, this is a great ship and if it returns to Europe again would really be happy to do it again.embarkation was quick and easy, ship is big with plenty to do on it, outdoor pool was far to small for the size of the ship that would be my main negative, would like to see pool staff do regular checks to make sure people were not breaking rules on reserving deck chairs around the pool and not returning for hours unfortunately I did notice this happening on occasions, service around the ship was excellent, plenty to do on board, only got off once in Palma de Majorca went to the water park which was great, dining was very good favourite places windjammer which was very good and well as the service although does get very busy at breakfast although never had to wait to long for a table. Also enjoyed sorrentos pizza and Jonny rockets, and two seventy for snacks would have been nice if there had have been and ice cream palor like on liberty of the seas my niece (12) was disappointed at this, shopping on board was not very good, we will rock you was great. Loved the sea plex centre differed things scheduled at different times during the day, would have been good to see more pool side entertainment as on other ships although there was movies although was disappointed by movie choices getting of the ship at the end of cruise was great took advantage of late departure programme To summerise this is a fun ship which is aimed at family's and really enjoyed the experience decor around the ship is amazing Read Less

If you like crowds and queues, bland pre-cooked food, a huge lack of open spaces, having to get up at 7.30 just to get a bed, even on the upper deck, then this is the cruise for you! Sail from Southampton to guarantee a nice mix of football loving chavs. If you have kids then they won't be able to even get near the pool on sea days or when the football is put on (full volume). One of the positives was that apparently 40 people got kicked off our ship at various ports due to 'unruly' behaviour including (rumour has it) two Scottish women who ended up in a fight, involving a glass at the the Windjammer over a plate of chips. CHIPS! Lol. For kids though it's a great ship as they have loads to do, and are very safe onboard. Be careful with the WOW Bands though as, although Guest Services will agree to put a limit on the band for your kids to use each day in the Arcade, it doesn't actually work so some people we met onboard had $500 Arcade bills at the end of the cruise! For adults if you like to sit outside in the evenings and have a drink to watch the sunset, well it's just not going to happen on this ship. The pool area is so overcrowded, it's like Butlins at sea. A joke on such a huge ship to have such a small pool and so few sunbeds! As for food, we booked a speciality restaurant most night's but got so sick of the warmed up, pre-cooked food that we cancelled a couple to just eat in the Windjammer, which was ok but nothing special. Breakfast was a whole different story here, no tables, sloppy food, lack of staff so when you did eventually find a table it was full of everyone else's dirty plates! We found breakfast in Chic was much better and the staff very Freindly. Jamie's was good, The Grand also good, Chops Grill good but limiting menu after 3 visits, but it is the best food on the ship. Chefs Table was a real let down for the price. We cancelled our second reservation after our first experience. Chic was pre-cooked food, tasting like a ready meal and the staff were dreadful. The Japanese restaurant however did very good fresh sushi! On a positive the cabin was very good, with plenty of storage and was very clean. Most people we spoke to didn't like the ship at all, and even though we all made the most of our holiday and had a great time, were quite glad to get off. Read Less

We cruised Anthem back in July for our honeymoon on a 14 night European extravaganza. Overall it was a wonderful cruise. I still give an edge to the Oasis class for a variety of reasons (notably the neighborhoods and the open space they bring, live music, and larger entertainment venues), but this is the first ship that is a true rival to that class in my opinion (I know many people like the smaller ships and I get that - this is just my opinion). A lot of the bad things we had heard about the ship did not happen to us (service, food quality). We thought the service was excellent, with only really one night (American Icon) where we had average service. All of the other staff seemed to be going out of their way to make sure they were delivering good service and asking if we had problems. The staff did seem a bit stretched thin at various food venues, however. The food itself was overall a solid 7, with higher rating for the specialty dining (i.e., chef's table, wonderland, Jamie's etc.). There definitely were some "misses" but it wasn't clear if those were one-off issues or not (i.e., a bad preparation vs. a bad dish), and they weren't deal breakers. Drinks were good, but the prices were high, and the specialty cocktails were very hit or miss. I applaud RC trying to implement a specialty cocktail program, but many were just sugar bombs. Excursions were expensive, but largely delivered the value and security we'd hoped for. Knowing the ports better now there were definite DIY opportunities throughout that we'd know better for next stop, but for our honeymoon where we wanted to be on cruise control they made sense. It was a good mix of "A list" and "B list" stops. Entertainment was also very good, although not as much live music as there used to be. We Will Rock You was fantastic, as was the Gift. Spectra's was interesting, worth seeing but not as good as the other big shows. We really liked the ship and are considering cruising again out of Bayonne. Wouldn't go on this ship again too big, too busy. Plenty to do for 14-17yrs but for us not restful at all. Embarkation at Southampton terrible, we were told nothing just stuck outside (my daughter in a wheelchair ) for over 2 hrs with no information . Eventually told a technical problem with the gangway, problems happen but to not inform hundreds of people for hours was unacceptable. We should of realised at the muster drill of problems to come, just soooo many people. Had to queue for a lift for over 20 mins, in fact lifts were often a problem as queues and shoving each other to get in was ridiculous. Queues at excursion desk was sometimes very long. Forget going to guest services, long queues. Make sure you check your bill every night as mine often had drinks on which were not ours. Windjammer could be very busy, after queuing for food , you then had to search for a table. Not always easy, often had to take food back to cabin. Tried all the restaurants 90% of food was good. Always had issues getting bottled water with meals. Shame that although The Grande was formal dress lots of people didn't bother, hence your in a long dress next to a table with a guy with a t shirt on. (They say they will insist on men in jackets well it didn't always happen). Cabins lovely we had extra large balcony D1 class. But very very noisy at night. Toilets flushing, teenagers running along corridors at night. We heard everything from cabin above. The lifts could be heard. Had to call security a few times at 2 am as it sounded like a party of youngsters in the corridor. Sun beds impossible, no space between them, you have to launch yourself on one. Twice we couldn't even find one sunbed on deck 16 for my daughter to sunbathe. The only outside pool is for 30 people. Way too small for almost 5000 guest. Never again Read Less

This is my first ever review but I wanted to let people know that there is only one small outdoor pool on this ship (two small indoor pools ). Considering it can take around 4100 passengers this was terrible. We love to sunbath and swim during the day and so this was a massive diappointment. Only standing room in a very very overcrowded small pool. My 3 boys could not swim in the pool during the day but had to go for a swim in the evening, so this spoiled the cruise for them. Not enough sunbeds outside, first time ever on a RCI cruise that I could not find a seat outside. We did not want to go on holiday to sit indoors by an inside pool. The sunbeds were also to close together , nothing like other ships So disappointed as RCI are our favourite cruise line. Great staff, spotlessly clean, lovely food and great entertainment as usual with RCI but we would never go on Anthem of the Seas again. Read Less

Presently sailing on the Anthem of the Seas. As you can see have time to write review because there is little else to do. We sailed on the Oasis last year. Apparently all Royal Caribbean ships are their best. Well unless their has been a complete change we find this hard to believe. Whilst the ship itself is very nice the food, staff, organisation, entertainment and excursions are terrible. Arrived at the cruise port where there was massive queues to get on board. Could not even get in to the terminal building. No explanation given for the delay. By the time we got on board all the restaurants were closed for muster. Spent a long time with the girl in the terminal putting on credit card details to all of our accounts. Despite this we have had to visit the massive queues at customer services five times as they seem in capable of getting this information on to our account. Ship of technology you have got to be joking, they cannot get these simple things right. We have heard numerous people being told to go to customer services to sort out their wow bands or sea passes. As for the food - what a disappointment. There is no traditional main restaurant with silver service. They call it the Grande but it's the same as all the other restaurants except dark and dingy. We waited for ever to receive our food. We were surprised that most of the meals came with no potato of any kind and only a few pieces of carrot or asparagus. The food was pre plated and lacked flavour and was certainly not fine dining. The majority of the dishes were fish. I had prawn cocktail one evening. It was a pile of shrimps chucked in a soup bowl with no sauce or salad and was probably defrosted. It looked completely unappetising. as I sit here now people next to me are discussing how awful the food is. The menus are pretty much the same in each restaurant a part from certain dishes and the menus do not change. Again the Windjammer was the same type of food every evening. Curry, stir fry, pasta bake and some dried up meat . Canteen food. The cakes in each venue were the same cakes for two weeks. The chefs must be bored to death!! We certainly were. The staff do not care. I saw a boy wipe his fingers one evening, the waiter just shrugged. The tables are not cleared. Most of the staff do not speak very good English and do not understand you. You have to keep on repeating yourself. On a number of nights the buffet restaurant was closed by 9.30. The staff who do care only appear to do so because they want you to give them a good review. They are constantly hassling you about the review you are going to give them. Probably how they get their tips. We paid to eat in Jamie Oliver's which was not that special. After two weeks the ship was not very clean. They have sinks to wash your hands in before you enter the Windjammer . They never bothered cleaning the taps and sinks. By the end of the cruise they were filthy. The organisation was dreadful. Booked and paid for flow rider lesson before boarding. Arrived to find that our lesson had been changed and just before they had craftily altered it on our system. Obviously wanted to finish early. However they had no leg to stand on as we had print out. No apology of course. Customer services response nothing to do with them! Entertainment on the ship consists of three shows. The Gift story lineages no sense. When we went to watch Spectra's cabaret all the technical wizardry broke down ten minutes in and had to be cancelled. If you don't book expect to have to wait in a very long QUEUE. Oh that word again. The rest of the entertainment consists of two bands playing the same songs night after night. The cruise director thinks he's a one man show. Quizzes, quizzes ... Oh and a few piano players. Some with a lot of talent but not very entertaining on a family cruise. The theatre is not very big. We were told that there was only places for the Queen show for 3000 guests when there is over 4000 on board. The height of entertainment on deck was the belly flop competition. Says it all. The sail away party didn't exist and don't expect any parties because there are non. They have a large theatre and put door screen but they only time they show a film is when your in port or occasionally at 11pm. Complete waste of a facility. Even on the days when it was not warm enough to sun bathe. There is one out door pool only and you have to get up at the crack of dawn or fight for a sun bed. The excursions are not properly explained. Our excursion in Pisa lasted 50 minutes and then we were taken to a 150 year old beach hut on a beach. We were given a deck chair described as a sun bed for the princely sum of £70. We saw some people doing a walking tour in Cartagena and visiting the Roman theatre for 50 dollars or more. The same cost us 12 euros each including the open top bus. Overall we are sadly very disappointed. We have been looking forward to this all year. Word of advise unless you are getting a deal or don't care that much about the service and food avoid this ship. Ps be careful going through the ships scanners my son had his phone taken. Read Less

This is our first experience of Royal Caribbean cruising having only participated in a 'cheaper' class of cruising in the past. We are a family of 5 - 2 adults, 1 teen, 5 and 7 year old and I can say that each and every one of us had the best holiday on the Anthem. I was dubious about embarking from reading previous comments. We arrived at Southampton Port terminal 15-20mins before our allocated time and got straight through, had our passports and sea passes checked and we were onboard the ship at the start of our arrival time. Hassle free!! We were greeted by friendly welcoming staff to which we received throughout the holiday, never did we see any member of the RC crew without a smile on their faces. Anthem is just amazing! The whole ship is high tech and even though Wifi is extra its worth paying for it to keep in touch with everyone to tell them how good a time you are having whilst at sea. We had good signals anywhere onboard. The Bionic Bar is a must to visit the robots are so interesting to watch and the cocktails are good too :). There are lots of options for dining both free and for a fee. I'd made sure we pre-booked all the themed restaurants prior to departure. We were not disappointed with any. Our favourite was Chops Grille and Prime Table in Chops Grille, although this is not the cheapest, its well worth a visit (not of the kids though). The Grande was great and lovely to still have the opportunity to dress to impress! American Icon is a beautiful restaurant and food was good. Izumi had amazing sushi. Whilst at sea we got to see We Will Rock You the show was fabulous! It was my 5 year olds first experience at a theatrical show and she loved it! All the cast were brilliant it was a shame we never got to see it twice. Our girlies loved the Adventure Ocean, in fact we struggled getting them out of there! If you want to have a bit of adult dining time they can eat pizza etc with the club and as long as you get them before 10.30 its all free! Even after 10.30pm its only $7 per child per hour. The club staff were keeping them all entertained and every day the girls came back telling us lots of info about what they had done they even got some prizes!! We only used the shore excursion service in Villefranche and went to Monaco well worth the money (think it was about £45 each) our guide gave us detailed information about the surrounding areas both going and returning and we got plenty of free time to peruse Monaco and Monte Carlo. We also visited Gibraltar, Malaga, Palma (overnight), Ibiza and Cadiz all the ports had good transportation available even without pre-booking. Sea days were all kept busy with all the different entertainment and shopping experiences available. The sales staff are hilarious and entertaining. I loved just sitting and watching them doing their sales pitches when doing the daily sales! Also the Morning show was very entertaining. We spent plenty of time in the casino whilst at sea and had a great experience there. My husband even got Captain Gus dealing blackjack on his table one night. lots of different choices available and plenty of varieties of slot machines. Disembarkation was a breeze! We arrived at our allocated time, left the ship with friendly fairwell's and our luggage was waiting for us when we got back into the port terminal. I have to say we heard a few people complaining, mostly about the children, particularly the teens. My theory is if you go on holiday in June, July and August then there are bound to be lots of children everywhere its the summer holidays! If you dislike them so much then find another time to go!!! We were all so very sad to leave. Booked again for next year - Independence!! Read Less

This was our first RCL cruise. Booked nearly one year in advance and thus it was a much anticipated vacation. Been on 6 cruises before with NCL and Costa Cruises. We are "happy travellers", not very demanding nor spoilt by luxury. Nevertheless, I have never been so disappointed. The ship was filthy and dirty. Beer bottles and old pizza slices all over the place. By the pool, in the lifts and the Windjammer was a disgrace. The staff is tired and over worked. The guest service is just for show. I approached them 4 times with various questions but always left empty handed. Cabins are nice and cabin staff is excellent. We really liked the dinner arrangement and ate in all restaurants. Nice decor, good service and good food. To summarize: Anthem of the Seas has no cruise feel what so evere. It is more a cheap 'all inclusive' resort. And a really tacky one. Will never go again on the Quantum class. Some of my fellow passengers adviced that we give RCI one more chance and try one of the smaller traditionel ships. So we have booked one more cruise next summer. RCI better make that one right, otherwise it is 'hello again NCL'. Read Less

I really cant believe some of the reviews i am reading ? We had a fantastic cruise on a wonderful ship . I think some people either dont research, so go on the wrong ship or, just like to moan and find fault . The embarkation was about 10 mins as was debarkation . The ship was just beautiful with plenty of things and places to go . If you wanted quiet you could find it . As,for the previous review saying about the bar staff around the pool??? there were plenty of staff coming around for orders and we very rarely had to wait .Also if you dont want kids running around then dont go on a ship that is obviously geared up for children ?? We didnt have children with us and it didnt bother us . We found the food lovely and also the staff in the restaurants , our favourite was the Chic . The staff outside the restaurants were very efficient and you only had to wait if there you went at peak times , we didnt wait more than 5 mins, some people are so impatient . The windjammer was busy but it always is and again we always managed to get a table , remember there are 5000 people on board . At night the entertainment was fantastic, something for all , with plenty of bars to sit in and lots of fun .Dont forget to book the shows online before and the restaurants if there is a group of you . The cabin was an inside and with the virtual balcony was lovely , clean and spacious . Obviously it wasnt perfect but then nothing is , we had a wonderful holiday and would defienetly go back on this ship . Read Less

This is our 3rd cruise with rc and we've always loved it . However this one was not the same. The actual ship is beautiful but very dis jointed it doesn't flow as the other ones do. The entertainment (we saw we will rock you) was indeed very good however the other shows were not easy to see as they always clashed with the dinning we booked classic dinning so we could see the same guests each night which never happened and one night our table was given to a couple who were booked for the 6.30 slot and because they went to a show they were late so they got both options and our cost. We never went to the show because of our eating time. The entertainment at the pool side was very poor only 1 activity in the whole week belly flops . There was also no shows down the promenade as there wasn't one along with very few shops except for very expensive jewellery it seems to us this ship focuses on the wealthy. When we got off at Guernsey it took us 2 and a half hours form picking up our ticket to actually getting into our tender really not acceptable and I am in a wheelchair so we queued for 2 hours before we were told we were on the wrong deck(even though we checked) we had to go down a deck and wait another half hour. When we got to the port we were faced with with a huge vertical slope we had to get up which wasn't possible In a chair. There is on,y indoor smoking in the casino so no relaxing room after dinner with a night cap. It has lost the personal touch and very high tech. We are booked again for sept but had we known we would never of booked again. Nowhere to hang evening dresses either. Read Less
